Digidrive is a puzzle game and is one of the games in the bitGenerations series. A North America release was supposedly announced back in E3 2005 which renamed the series Digitylish, but at the time of this writing, only the Japanese localization of the game has been released, and a North American date unannounced. It is now widely thought to be cancelled. Regardless of this, each of the bitGeneration games are in English, and its low price of 2000Y makes it relatively painless to import. Introduction to Digidrive- Basic Play- The playing field consists of a 4-way intersection making 4 lanes in total. When incoming traffic begins, the player can choose to divert the Shape/Chevron, either left or right, or just keep it going straight, using the control pad. When the same color chevron enters each lane, it will begin to stack up. If a different color chevron enters the lane, it will stack up, but drive the other colors back out. When 5 chevrons of the same color are stacked up on a lane, it will convert itself to a fuel gauge. The fuel gauge can be increased by stacking up another 5 chevrons of the same color. Eventually, a chevron with a siren will come onto the playing field; this is an “Attack Chevron”. If the player directs this into a piece into a lane with a fuel gauge established, the entire lane will clear and the fuel will be sent to “drive” the puck upwards. The player also has manual stocks of Attack Chevrons which can be sent out by pressing the “A” button. The goal of the game is to get the puck as high as possible before the piston behind it catches up with it. Advanced Tactics- (This section will be greatly expanded in future FAQ revisions) This section will talk about doubling your fuel- gauges, combining, and Auto-Bomb. When a there is a single gauge on the field, and you insert the wrong color, it will destroy the gauge and you will need to start over. However, if you insert a different color into the lane, and there is another gauge elsewhere, the current gauge will transfer itself over to the other gauge and you will get the sum of both gauges. If there are three fuel gauges active on the field, and the player diverts a different color into a lane, that gauge will double, and each of the other two gauges in the field will obtain the doubled gauge. Doubling is a key component in creating large gauges to create high scores. Auto-Bomb becomes active when all four lanes contain a fuel gauge. When this mode is active, a chevron is worth five times its original value, and directly goes into the gauge. When one lane dissolves or if the lane receives the wrong color, that gauge is automatically sent to drive the puck forward. The player will also receive an extra Attack stock (unless the player already has 3). Note: when in Auto-Bomb, the highest amount a fuel gauge can obtain is the circle shaped one. (Table of fuel gauges, value, and inertia bonus to come in future revisions.) (under construction) Continue- If you’ve turned off your GBA while the game is paused, you can continue of that same game from the main menu. The game will remember the score, current fuel gauges on the field, and the position of the piston behind the puck. All the chevrons on the field will be cleared, and any fuel that is driving the puck while it was previously save will not be counted. Download Mode- Both GBAs require the use of Nintendo’s Wireless Adapter. The receiving GBA will boot up the GBA without a cart in the slot, while holding down the Start and Select. If done correctly, this will put the GBA into “Search Mode” After selecting the language, use the GBA with Digidrive and use “Download”, and it will automatically locate the “Searching” GBA and copy them their own copy of Digidrive. VS Mode- Versus Mode is similar to Single-Player Mode except the goal is to drive the puck into your opponent’s end. Similar single play rules apply with two additional features- Auto Guard and Items. When your opponent drives the puck into your end, Auto Guard will activate. It consumes all the fuel gauges in your playing field in an attempt to drive the puck out of your end. If you do not have enough fuel to do resist the attack, or do not have fuel at all, you lose. Note that fuel gauges used for Auto Guard will have reduced effectiveness. If items are in play, you can activate them by pressing the B Button. You start each round with a random item in stock, but to get new ones, you’ll need to drive the puck forward any amount. The different items are: Instant Attack- This is a small instantaneous attack that will drive the puck forward. Can be used at anytime. Power Bomb- This is a more powerful version of Instant Attack. Steal- Using this item will steal away any power-up your opponent is carrying. Switch- This item will switch all the fuel gauges (if any) on your playing field, for the ones on your opponent’s (if any). Speed Down- This will cause the opponent’s chevrons on the playing field to move extremely slow. Notice though the rate of each lane’s gauge will not slow down, and may cause some gauges to expire if the defender is not careful. Half Stock- This item will cut the opponent’s fuel gauges on the playing field by half its capacity. Double Stock- This item will double all of your fuel gauges on the playing field. Shield- When used, it will stop the puck from moving for a short while. Useful when you on the receiving end of an attack. However when the shield is active, your attacks will have no effect either. -------------------------------------------------- (More on gauge types, scoring formula, inertia, unlockables, in the future.)
