VERSION HISTORY 0.3, 15/02/2004: Of course I'm allowed to update after two years. More proofreading has been done. Since no more Easter Eggs have been found for quite a while now, I've added information on those that pertain to taunting. I also did some actual testing and found that you can, in fact, choose win poses in Team Melees. 0.2, 28/03/2002: Fixed some grammatical errors and added that win poses can only be chosen in a Melee match. 0.1, 27/02/2002: First draft. I can't really think of anything else this needs, but I'll leave it sit for a bit and come back later with some spelling corrections or something, I'm sure. For the time being, consider this a "complete work-in-progress". 0.0, 26/02/2002: Started writing the guide. -------------------------------------------------- I. INTRODUCTION Super Smash Bros. Melee is an extraordinary game for the Nintendo GameCube, but I'm sure you knew that already. However, did you know that each character has up to two distinct taunts and no less than three distinct win poses? And did you know that you can choose when to do them all? Oh, it's true. And what's more, I've gone through and listed them all, so you don't waste your time watching ones you don't like. Yep, just for you. -------------------------------------------------- II. CONTROLS In-Match Taunts are done by pressing the D-Pad Up when you are standing still on the ground. Some characters have just one taunt, while others have slightly or very different taunts depending on what direction they're facing. Win Poses are done by holding down B, Y or X from when the match ends to when the victory screen appears. Not holding down a button just makes the game pick a pose at random for you; all the button does is allow you to choose which pose to see. Also, you can press multiple buttons, but the pose will be determined by which button was pressed last AND still being held down when the screen turns to black. Easter Egg Taunts are done by pressing D-Pad Left and D-Pad Right; see the Easter Egg Taunts section for more specific information. -------------------------------------------------- III. EASTER EGG TAUNTS Easter Egg Taunts can be done by two characters: Fox and Falco. In addition, you must be playing on the Corneria or Venom stages. When you start a taunt, your character will spin 270°, kneel down towards the camera, make a fist and shake for five seconds, at which point he'll stand up and raise his fist in the air, which will sparkle with a little "ting" sound, then salute. At this point, you'll overhear a radio conversation between the rest of the Star Fox team, just like how communications happen in Star Fox 64. Sometimes they'll be talking to your character and sometimes between themselves, but your character never participates (although, for example, if Player 1 is Falco and performs his Easter Egg Taunt, Fox could appear in the conversation even if Player 2 was using Fox to fight). Conversations are picked randomly, and Fox and Falco each have their own unique set. You can control your character once the conversation starts, but if you're hit, it will cut out immediately. If you're hit while kneeling down, the conversation will not start. Finally, an Easter Egg Taunt can only be attempted once per match--not once per player, but once total. How to do it: Stand still and press D-Pad Left then D-Pad Right (or D-Pad Right then D-Pad Left) quickly. Each direction only needs to be pressed once, but it's hard to do this perfectly; the best way is to just rapidly alternate between D-Pad Left and D-Pad Right with two thumbs until your character kneels down. (I've recorded the written dialog verbatim, strange punctuation and all. The written dialog differs from the spoken dialog in a few places; these places are noted near the dialog in which this occurs.) FALCO Sound Test: Vocals from each dialog box can be found in Falco's sound test group as sound effect numbers 37-53. Each box's specific number is given after the dialog. Conversation #1: Fox: "All ships report in!" (37) Slippy: "This is Slippy! I'm all right! I'm all right!" (38) Peppy: "Peppy here. I'm a little shaken, but I'm OK." (39) Peppy: "Sorry... I've always wanted to say that." (40) Conversation #2: Peppy: "Look out, Slippy! Enemies behind you!" (41) Slippy: "Fox! I think someone's on my tail!" (42) Fox: "Get out of there, Slippy!" (43) Slippy: "Thanks, Fox! I thought I was done for!" (44) Conversation #3: Slippy: "Hold the A Button to charge up shots!" (45) (Note: the vocals only say "Hold A to charge up shots!") Peppy: "Cut your way through with a boost!" (46) Fox: "Aren't you guys thinking of something else?" (47) Conversation #4: Peppy: "Falco! Don't let them get you!" (48) Slippy: "This has gotten interesting! I'm on the edge of my seat!" (49) Fox: "Calm down! This is where the real battle begins!" (50) Conversation #5: Slippy: "Wait right there, Andross! All ships report!" (51) Peppy: "Hey, Slippy! Don't get too excited!" (52) Fox: "Keep it together! Things are about to get ugly!" (53) FOX Sound Test: Vocals from each dialog box can be found in Fox's sound test group as sound effect numbers 35-51. Each box's specific number is given after the dialog. Conversation #1: Slippy: "Wow! I almost feel like going for a swim!" (35) Falco: "You swim in the ocean, too?" (36) Slippy: "Don't make fun of me, birdbrain!" (37) Peppy: "Ahh, to be young again..." (38) Conversation #2: Peppy: "Fox! Be careful! I have a bad feeling about this." (39) Slippy: "What? Everything's fine--I'm here!" (40) Falco: "That's what worries me the most..." (41) Conversation #3: Slippy: "Use the B Button and Control Stick combos for special moves!" (42) Peppy: "Press Up, X or Y Button to jump!" (43) (Note: the vocals only say "Press Up, X or Y to jump.") Falco: "What? You're just now explaining the controls?!?" (44) Conversation #4: Peppy: "Watch your radar carefully, Fox!" (45) Peppy: "Keep your eyes open!" (46) Peppy: "C'mon, Fox! What are you doing?!?" (47) Slippy: "Be quiet, you old fogy!" (48) Conversation #5: Falco: "Behind you, Fox! Stay alert!" (49) Peppy: "Just don't give up. Trust your senses!" (50) Slippy: "Come on, Fox!" (51) -------------------------------------------------- VI.
