Now that my Final Fantasy X stat ubering urge has died down, and the appeal of Warcraft III is loosing it's hold of me, I now am fully focused on Super Mario Sunshine (US Version). My goal for this guide is to document "How to obtain all of the Shines" in the game: Super Mario Sunshine (US Version) I have tried to make this guide as "spoiler free" as possible. One day, I plan on documenting where ALL the Blue Coins are located and how to get them. This will take some time to document. This is a living guide and will be updated many times. I would like this guide to become a "High Level of Play" document with the most detailed Table of Contents possible. Not just a "How to beat the game" guide. Changed some grammar. Added my ASCII drawing of a Shine. Version 0.2 (September 04, 2002) Fixed some mistakes with the Table of Contents and the Formating. Version 0.1 (September 04, 2002) First release. Covers all episodes within Bianco Hills, Ricco Harbor, Gelato Beach, Pinna Park, Sirena Beach, and Noki Bay. ==================================================================== 2 - Tips, Tactics, Techniques, and Trivia ==================================================================== In this section, I go over gameplay elements and questions that may come to mind. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.A - Introducing, the Residents of Isle Delfino ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You will find two new creatures on the Isle of Delfino, never before seen in a Mario game. The first is the "Pianta" creatures. They are the big pudgy creatures, and dress much like Hawaiians. You will encounter the Pianta creatures right away, in the game, on the Delfino Airstrip. Next, is the "Noki" creatures. They are smaller then the Piantas and usually dress in sea-shell attire. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.B - What Are All the Different Nozzles, that I Can Use? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There is the 2 standard nozzles, one is the Spray Nozzle the other is the Hover Nozzle. The Spray Nozzle is Mario's main weapon and cleaning tool, while the Hover Nozzle is used for making jumps easier as well as getting extra length on them too. Then there is 2 other nozzles you will find later on in Mario's adventure. One is the Turbo Nozzle for propelling Mario across the ground faster, and the other is the Rocket Nozzle for blasting off Mario up into the sky above. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.C - Useful Nozzle Tricks ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In this Section I'll go over some tricks for Mario's Nozzles that may not be apparent at first. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.C.01 - Speed Swimming -------------------------------------------------------------------- When in water, you can make Mario swim a little faster by selecting FLUDD's Hover Attachment and holding down the R TRIGGER while you tap the A BUTTON. After about 4 to 5 seconds, release the R TRIGGER and then quickly press and hold it back in, all the while tapping the A BUTTON. Repeat all steps as necessary. If you have the Turbo Nozzle, swimming in this manner is definitely not necessary. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.C.02 - Spin 'N' Spray -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is useful for a few things in Super Mario Sunshine. Chose the Spray Nozzle, then spin the control stick around in a 360° rotation and tap in the R TRIGGER. You can add a jump to this technique too. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.C.03 - Rocket Blasting from within the Water -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you need to use the Rocket Nozzle, and Mario is in a body of water, then this is what you have to do. Charge the FLUDD until the Rocket Blast is almost ready to engage, then quickly press and hold the A BUTTON. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.C.04 - Spread Spraying -------------------------------------------------------------------- Click the R TRIGGER, all of the way in. Then press the A BUTTON. This will make Mario do a back-flip and his Spray will go into a big Spread. Not too useful, but can help to clean-up faster. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.D - What's the Deal with the Colored Coins? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Get any color of coin to gain some Life on your Life Meter. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.D.01 - Gold Coins -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you can acquire 100 Gold Coins in any level you will get a Shine for your effort. It's easier to get 100 Gold Coins in some Episodes then in others. NOTE: You will NOT get a Shine for acquiring 100 Gold Coins in Ricco Harbor's Episode 2, if you have already gotten the Shine for acquiring 100 Gold Coins in Ricco Harbor's Episode 4. Also, acquire 50 Gold Coins to score a 1-UP! -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.D.02 - Blue Coins -------------------------------------------------------------------- The only use for Blue Coins is to buy Shines with them, at the Boathouse. This is the building with the "M" Teleport to the level of Ricco Harbor. There are tons of different ways to obtain these Blue Coins, good luck. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.D.03 - Red Coins -------------------------------------------------------------------- These Red Coins come into play during certain Episodes. You have to collect them all to receive the Shine for that particular Episode. Sometimes you may have to Ground Pound on a Red Switch to make the Red Coins appear within a certain level. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.E - Info about the Secret Red Coin Stages ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Come back to any "Secret" Episode after you have finished it once, by retrieving the Shine. From within the Secret Stage, you will be presented with a Red Switch. Ground Pound this Red Switch, then get all the Red Coins within the time limit to enjoy another Shine. You will also get to use FLUDD in these stages! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.F - Where's Yoshi, and How Do I Get Him? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Yoshi will be at your disposal after you obtain the Shine in the level Pinna Park - Episode 4: The Wilted Sunflowers. You must chase and spray Shadow Mario around Delfino Plaza until you get him to surrender the egg to you. Now you can ride Yoshi in Delfino Plaza as well as in all levels that require his help, such as in the level Ricco Harbor - Episode 8: Yoshi's Fruit Adventure. See section 3.E.04 for more information. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.G - The Scoop on the Sun Glasses ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ After you acquire 30 Shines, the Pianta wearing the green shirt and sun glasses will give Mario his own pair of sun glasses. These new sun glasses reduce the brightness on your TV screen. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.H - Look, Mario is Wearing a Short Sleeved Shirt... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Uhhh... yes, yes he is. =========================================================== 3 - Walkthrough =========================================================== ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.A - Delfino Airstrip ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.A.01 - The Rainbow Slime/Mud on the Airstrip -------------------------------------------------------------------- Get your FLUDD, and spray the "M" Logo. When your done getting yourself familiarized with FLUDD, then go to the rainbow slim/mud and spray at the big lump in the middle. When the Piranha Plant comes out, spray him when he opens his mouth to defeat him. After you defeat him, grab that sunny token. There you go, you just got your first "Shine". ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.B - Delfino Plaza ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is the "Hub" to other levels in the game and where a lot of story events and dialog occur. (more info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.B.01 - The Shine Locations of Delfino Plaza -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.B.02 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.B.03 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.B.04 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.C - Bianco Hills ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The first level. Located within the Delfino Plaza Statue. Slide on down the trail and into the once peaceful, Windmill Village. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.01 - Episode 1: Road to the Big Windmill -------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the road all the way to the beginning of the bridge to the Big Windmill. Start by going to the first tight-rope, just past the 3 line of palm trees. Get to the other side of the tight-rope, and get back on the main road along the wall. Go all the way to the mill-wheel and jump on one of it's spokes to get to the other side of it. Again, follow the road to the slime/mud on the ground. Clear out a pathway up to the beginning of the bridge, that leads, to the Big Windmill. Watch out for those big balls of slime/mud. Spray the lump of mud on the ground, by the bridge, to make a Piranha Plant come up from the slime/mud. Take this Piranha Plant out by spraying him in the mouth, when it's open. Get the Shine, get happy. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.02 - Episode 2: Down with Petey Piranha! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the Bridge locations as in the previous episode, and now cross the newly fixed bridge. Travel up the path of the Big Windmill, while avoiding the balls of goop rolling down at you. Get to the roof-top of the Big Windmill by using one of the Windmill's Blades. Petey Piranha will break down the roof, making both Mario and himself fall down inside the Big Windmill. Spray Petey Piranha when he opens his mouth until he gets full and falls down. Then do a Ground Pound on his belly-button. Repeat this until you get your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.03 - Episode 3: The Hillside Cave Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- Get back to that bridge again, but don't cross it all the way. Go to the middle of the bridge and jump off, toward the Hillside Cave, down to the tight-rope below. Jump on the platforms and tight-ropes to get to the grass that's underneath the cave. Do a back flip or use the tight-rope to get up to the level of the cave, and then just hover on in. Get ready for your first "Secret Stage" with no FLUDD to help you. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.04 - Episode 4: Red Coins of Windmill Village -------------------------------------------------------------------- There are 5 Red Coins floating in the sky and on the roof-tops of Windmill Village, and 3 on top of the wall. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.05 - Episode 5: Petey Piranha Strikes Back -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a pretty challenging episode. First, go down the road and into Windmill Village. In the back of Windmill Village, up the cliffs, is where you'll find Petey Piranha for the second time. To get up those cliffs, well... you have two options. Option 1: Get to work, and clean up some mud/slime until you find a Pianta. Clean him off, and talk to him. He will offer to throw you. Sometimes he'll actually get you on top of those cliffs. Option 2: Go to the roof-top of the building where the tight-rope was connected to the Shine's platform in the previous episode. There you'll find a new tight-rope going in the opposite way, towards the cliffs of Petey Piranha. Now see those pink puffy enemies? Those guys are the key to taking down Petey Piranha, in this Episode. Just let one attach to your FLUDD and spray him at Petey Piranha to wake him up. Now, chase after Petey Piranha and use those same pink puffy enemies to bring Petey down to the ground. Then fight Petey Piranha as you did in Episode 2. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.06 - Episode 6: The Secret of the Dirty Lake -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is referring to the lake below the Big Windmill. You need to get into the small cave to get the Shine in this episode. The water of the lake will hurt you, if you fall in, in this episode. Go to a high point on the road to the Big Windmill and hover down to the logs or cave. Prepare for another Secret Stage. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.07 - Episode 7: Shadow Mario on the Loose -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him until he surrenders a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.08 - Episode 8: The Red Coins of the Lake -------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, this is a little hard. There is 1 Red Coin on the lake, the rest are on the tight-ropes and platforms above. Try to get the Rocket Nozzle, located by the Hillside Cave, to greatly help out. A neat trick is to spray the Water Bug enemies, and then bounce off of them as if you just did a Rocket Blast. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 8 is the best place to accomplish this task. Stomp Pokeys in their upright position to get 3 coins instead of 1. Use the "Spin 'N' Spray" technique, I described above, to water all of the flower buds on the ground to receive bundles of coins. When the Pokey Flower-Head enemies pop up, out of the ground from the flower buds, try to spray them against a wall to get 3 coins instead of the 1 you get for jumping on top of it. Defeat all those Blue Flower-Head enemies by spraying at them first, to stun them, and then jump on them for 1 coin. Get the coins in the tree tops by spraying the trees leaves. Also, defeat all those Blue Flower-Head enemies in the trees. Get the coins on the lake surface. Get the coins on the tight-ropes above the lake. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a Blue Coin floating in the sky of Windmill Village. In Episodes 3-8, go to the top of the Big Windmill, at the location where Petey Piranha was at in Episode 2. Jump on top of the newly perched Pokey to receive a Blue Coin. In Episodes 5-8, before the first tight-rope in the level, use the palm tree on the furthest right of Mario's starting location to get on top of the wall to the right. Then do a Triple Jump on up to the pillar. There you'll find a dirty Pianta. Clean him off and he'll hook you up with a Blue Coin. (more info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.C.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- Choose Episode 3, then go to the Hillside Cave and Ground Pounce on the Red Switch. You have 1 minute. Set your FLUDD to Hover mode and go up the moving platforms. Get the 1 Red Coin on the way up. There are 4 Red Coins on the moving blocks, one in each corner. Hover, Hover, Hover to get them. Last 3 Red Coins are located out in space on the spinning stars. Jump from the multi-colored cubes to get enough height to your jump, then use FLUDD to Hover to the spinning stars. Good luck. Choose Episode 6, then go to the Dirty Lake Cave. Avoid getting the Turbo Nozzle at all costs! There is 1 Red Coin on this first set of Pink Blue flopping blocks. 1 is on a spinning star next to a 1-UP. You can completely Hover across the pit from the multi-colored cube. 1 is on the yellow slab where the red bumpers are at. 2 are on the multi-colored cube, that goes up like an elevator. The last 3 are on the last set of Pink and Blue flopping blocks. Hover like mad to obtain these. Good luck. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.D - Ricco Harbor ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The second level. Located within the Boathouse. Home of all the beautiful Bloopers... -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.01 - Episode 1: Gooper Blooper Breaks Out -------------------------------------------------------------------- There is the normal way to do this, and there is the short way to do this. You want the short way right? From the start, go straight ahead up the ramp and onto the boat. Punch through the vertical gates with the B BUTTON, and kick the horizontal gates with the A BUTTON. Navigate to the boat's smoke-stack. Get on top of it by doing a back-flip and hover till you lift-up enough. When on top of the smoke-stack do another back-flip and hover towards the thin floating metal platform. Run down to the end of the thin metal platform, then jump off to the left, down below to the pink gate. Then head for those colorful boxes and pull on that tentacle hanging out. Do this by pressing the B BUTTON and pulling backwards on the control stick. Now, get ready for Gooper Blooper. Here is one of the simplest ways to beat Gooper Blooper. Just spray his face. Then, when he slams down his tentacles, jump one of his front 2 tentacles to paralyze it. Then press and hold the B BUTTON, to grab it, and yank it off by pressing backwards on the control stick. You can break off more tentacles if you like, but you only need to break off this 1 only. Now spray his face completely, until it's all clean. When he slams down his other 3 tentacles again, run in and grab his mouth with the B BUTTON and snap it back at him by pressing backwards on the control stick. You're done with round 1. In the next round, he'll spit out goop around him. Clean-up some of the goop, to have a path-way to his mouth, and repeat what you did in round 1 to defeat him. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.02 - Episode 2: Blooper Surfing Safari -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head to the right, toward the logs, from the start location. Jump on the logs and onto the platform where the Bloopers are. Pick a color and surf, while following the coins. Enter that opening that the coins lead to. Now you have to finished this obstacle course within a certain amount of time , on your Blooper. Pick a color and ride as fast as you can by pressing the control stick forward. Press the A BUTTON to jump. If you're fast enough, the Pianta at the end will tell you how cool you are and grant you a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.03 - Episode 3: The Caged Shine Sprite -------------------------------------------------------------------- There is the normal way to do this, and there is the short way to do this. You want the short way right? From the start, do you see that ramp to the boat on your right? Good, DO NOT go that way. Instead do a double jump and hover to the first boat with the gate on top. Navigate to the boat's smoke-stack. Get on top of it by doing a back-flip and hover till you lift-up enough. When on top of the smoke-stack do another back-flip and hover towards the thin floating metal platform, where the hook is moving back and forth above. There you go, you just saved yourself a bunch of time. Grab onto that hook and then jump on the gate across the way. Punch the gate to get to the other side, then go on. Keep following those arrows. Take out the 2 Bloopers right next to each other. Bounce on all the spring boards all the way up to the Cage. Fall in the Cage from the top to snag your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.04 - Episode 4: The Secret of Ricco Tower -------------------------------------------------------------------- It's best to have the Turbo Nozzle for this mission, and you also need the Rocket Nozzle. From the start, go to the left and get the Turbo Nozzle. Jump into the water and use the Turbo Nozzle, with the R TRIGGER, towards the submarine. If you don't have the Turbo Nozzle, then just swim regularly. Go past the submarine, and jump onto the platform with the red box holding the Rocket Nozzle. Now swim back past the submarine and to a little boat in the water, next to all the goop. Rocket Blast from the water to the land. The tower is above, just like in the cut scene. Rocket Blast your way on up, until you get into the Ricco Tower entrance. A new Secret Stage is presented. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.05 - Episode 5: Gooper Blooper Returns -------------------------------------------------------------------- Gooper Blooper strikes back... oh wait, that was the last level. This is faster going then the first encounter with this guy, but the battle itself is just a little more stressful. Go straight ahead, up the ramp, onto the ship. Punch through the gate both times, and head for the Pianta on top of the ship. Do a right turn where the little piece of gate sticks out from the ship, like a plank over water. Jump on the moving gate-like platform, which is swinging by a chain, and then jump off it and hover to the big platform with the arrow on it. Then jump and hover to the next big platform with the arrow. Next jump onto another gate-like platform, and then jump to the big gate with the Pianta. Talk to the Pianta, and he will throw Mario over to the helipad, where Gooper Blooper resides. Next round, Gooper Blooper will spit out goop, all over the helipad. Just clean up the goop and repeat the process as before. If you take awhile with him, he may start to spin around, using his tentacles spread out like a helicopter. Just fall down into one of the holes, with the gate at the bottom, to avoid this maneuver. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.06 - Episode 6: Red Coins on the Water -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head to the right, toward the logs, from the start location. Jump on the logs and onto the platform where the Bloopers are. Pick a color and surf, while gathering the 8 Red Coins. 2 of them are hiding near the beginning, off of the regular path of coins. You must jump for the 1 Red Coin at the end of the course. Get the Shine when you get all 8 Red Coins. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.07 - Episode 7: Shadow Mario Revisited -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him until he surrenders a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.D.08 - Episode 8: Yoshi's Fruit Adventure -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode requires that you have Yoshi by obtaining the Shine within Pinna Park - Episode 4: The Wilted Sunflowers, and that you've also jacked the Yoshi Egg from Shadow Mario in Delfino Plaza. Take the man-hole right from the beginning, and head for the location of where Gooper Blooper was in Episode 1. Near there is 2 canisters that are connected with some pipe. Get to the top of one of these canisters. On top of both of the canisters is a big button. You must do a Ground Pound on the button that is in the "up position". One canister will have the button in this position, and the other in a "down position". When one button is Ground Pounded to the "down position", then the other button on the other canister will go into the "up position". A different fruit will come out of the pipe each time the button is Ground Pounded to the "down position". Wait until a leafless-pineapple comes out of the pipe and then kick it over to the Yoshi Egg. A Purple Yoshi will hatch. Take him over to the back wall with the arrow, where the Fish enemies are hopping out of the water. Use Yoshi's Juice Spray to turn the Fish enemies into platforms. Use a platform to travel over to the first suspended metal platform. Jump off the metal platform to your left, toward the tree on the rocky wall. Spray the fruit down off of the tree and feed it to Yoshi. Yoshi will become Pink. Get back on the metal platform and Juice Spray more Fish enemies, to turn them into a new type of platform that floats upwards. Use the new type of platform to get up to the top suspended metal platform, where the Shine resides. Best place to get a tan in all of Isle Delfino. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.01 - Episode 1: Dune Bud Sand Castle Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- Easy to find, a little bit harder to do. Just spray that Dune Bud in the middle of the beach, until it bursts, to make a sand castle appear. Go through the door of the sand caste and have fun in the Secret Stage. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.02 - Episode 2: Mirror Madness! Tilt, Slam, Bam! -------------------------------------------------------------------- There are 3 mirrors at the back of the level, that you will need to get on top of. On top of them resides some enemies that you will need to dispose of in a special way. To get to the mirrors, go all the way to the back of the level, until you get to a Dune Bud, tucked away in a cove. Spray on that Dune Bud to make some sand stairs rise, that Mario can climb up. Get to the tight-rope near by, at the top, and hope on to get to the first mirror. Implore similar tactics to get to the other mirrors. When on top of a mirror, spray one of enemies until he gets to the edge and starts to loose his balance. Then go to the opposite side of that enemy, as he's still loosing his balance, and Ground Pound that opposite edge. This will fling him off of the mirror. Do this until every last one of those guys is evicted from your mirrors. Doing this will get you paid 1 Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.03 - Episode 3: Wiggler Ahoy! Full Steam Ahead! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a pretty fun Boss battle. Spray the Dune Buds, till they burst, as Wiggler runs by. This will tip him over. Then jump on his belly and do a Ground Pound, where the Red Arrow is pointing. Repeat as necessary. When Wiggler falls into the water, try to do a double jump or triple jump + dive to get on his belly, by pressing the B BUTTON in the air. Try different ways to get on his belly, when he's in the water, if you would like. At last, when your final Ground Pound is initiated, enjoy your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.04 - Episode 4: The Sand Bird is Born -------------------------------------------------------------------- Get all the way up the hill, to the back of the level. Now slide on down the brownish trail, and bounce and/or hover to the hole in the Sand Bird Tower. This is a Red Coin Collecting Stage in disguise. Quickly get the Red Coins on both of the Sand Birds wings, then rush to the tail and pick up the 1-UP on the cloud. Get the rest of the Red Coins on the tail and on the head. The Sand Bird will try to be tricky and turn on it's side shortly after. Try to get on the side of his tail or neck, when he does this. After he turns back to normal, you're home free. Jump onto the top of the tower to gather your last Red Coin and the Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.05 - Episode 5: II Piantissimo's Sand Sprint -------------------------------------------------------------------- This guy isn't so fast if you use the right tactics. While running, use the B BUTTON dive slide to gain speed. Back-flips and/or triple jumps, are needed for getting up the mid-section cliffs. Go to the back of the level where the Dune Bud, that made stairs, once was. Do wall jumps up to the green hills, and then run and jump to the flag to get your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.06 - Episode 6: Red Coins in the Coral Reef -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Coral Reef is to your left as soon as you start the episode. But, before you run off to get your Red Coins and Shine. I suggest you go to that island directly behind you and get the Turbo Nozzle. This helps greatly with getting the Red Coins that are following the schools of fish. Go to the Coral Reef and dive for Red Coins, within it. Also, get the Red Coins that are following the schools of fish using the Turbo Nozzle, if you have it. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.07 - Episode 7: It's Shadow Mario! After Him! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him until he surrenders a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.08 - Episode 8: The Watermelon Festival -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode can frustrate the unlucky peeps out there. There is a Watermelon Festival going on and the Islander with the biggest watermelon wins a Shine. Located the biggest watermelon isn't too hard. The biggest watermelon in the episode is located at the back of the whole level, where the flag was for the race with II Piantissimo. Getting it down to the hut and over the bridge is the hard part. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.E.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.F - Pinna Park ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The fourth level. Get here by basting off from the cannon within Delfino Plaza. This level is a great big amusement park. What a great theme for a Platformer game. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.01 - Episode 1: Mecha-Bowser Appears! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a pretty story driven episode. Chase Shadow Mario up through the Pinna Park entrance, and then to the water, to begin the enjoyment. Shadow Mario has a surprise. Ride the Roller Coaster and pick up the missiles that appear on the track. This happens automatically. You can shoot these missiles with the R TRIGGER. First off, Bullet Bills will chase you down the track. You can either shoot them with a missile or just spray them with your FLUDD. Mecha-Bowser is your main target here though, so concentrate your missiles on him as much as possible. After Mecha-Bowser takes a few missile hits from you, you'll see a story event as well as a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.02 - Episode 2: The Beach Cannon's Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- From the start, go to the right along the sand. Bullet Bill enemies will be flying at you on a direct intercept course. Dodge them or spray them, as run further in that direction. You will soon approach the culprit, that is shooting all those Bullet Bills at you. His name is Monte Mole. When you get close enough, he will start to throw Bob-omb enemies at you, from out of his Beach Cannon. Spray a Bob-omb enemy to paralyze it, then grab it with the B BUTTON, and toss it back at Monte Mole, by pressing the B BUTTON again. After a few tosses, back at Monte Mole, you will win the battle, and open a way to another Secret Stage. Jump on in the Beach Cannon, and try not to panic while inside. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.03 - Episode 3: Red Coins of the Pirate Ships -------------------------------------------------------------------- This one can take some time to do. Basically, start out by heading for the Pirate Ships. There is 1 on the way there and 2 actually above the Pirate Ships, in the air. The rest are around the green gates. Using the palm tree near the Yoshi-Go-Round, is a good way to get to the green gates by hovering. You can knock all those Electric Koopa-type enemies off by punching them, if you're vertical, with the B BUTTON, or kicking them with the A BUTTON, if you're horizontal. But this is not necessary, just run through them for a shockingly good time if you'd like. The last Red Coin and the Shine are above the 3 Electric Koopa-type enemies, that are all in a line, on the green gates furthest toward the Ferris Wheel. If you seam to be missing 1 Red Coin. It's probably the one below that very same green gate, as it is out of view. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.04 - Episode 4: The Wilted Sunflowers -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on over to the right, where you battled with the Monte Mole and his Beach Cannon. There you'll find some sad Sunflowers and some big eggs. Apparently the eggs are causing all the sadness, so spray them. The eggs will reveal themselves as big turtle-like enemies. Run in front of them and then quickly run away from them, to make them jump at you. Stay in the sand area, and when they hit the sand they'll get stuck upside-down for a few seconds. Ground Pound them on the belly to exterminate them. When all the big turtle-like enemies are defeated, the Queen Sunflower will give you a Shine. Yoshi's Story, is now activated to happen, so you can unlock him in the game. Just check out the next sequence. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.05 - Episode 5: The Runaway Ferris Wheel -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode is kind of hard, due to Sunshine's Camera Engine. You must navigate Mario to the back of the level, and to the back Ferris Wheel. Just go straight ahead right from the start, all the way to the gazebo where the pineapple is located. Run past this gazebo and down to the back of the level where all the water is falling down. The climb is a tough one, but you can do it. Try putting the camera all the way in, as close as possible to Mario. Use FLUDD's Hover Nozzle to manipulate the rotating gates. Near the top, you must knock off all the Electric Koopa-type enemies, off of their gates, by punching them with the B BUTTON. Get to the top and kick off the Big Blue Electric Koopa-type enemy, from his gate, this time using the A BUTTON. The Shine then goes up to the top-most platform of the Ferris Wheel. The Ferris Wheel also slows down, at this point. Jump on one of the Ferris Wheel's Cars. It's easiest to jump from the right-side, facing the Ferris Wheel's back-side. Travel on up to the top-most platform and claim you well earned Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.06 - Episode 6: The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the Yoshi-Go-Round and check it out. There is an Orange Yoshi missing from it. The Pianta will tell you that it broke. Time to find the real deal. The real Orange Yoshi is located near the base of the Ferris Wheel, right behind the big tree with the drippy nose. The Orange Yoshi is still in his egg, of course, and you must get the right fruit to hatch him. Go find the fruit that he wants and come back. When you hatch him, then take him on over to the Yoshi-Go-Round to enter yet another Secret Stage. Partake in the excitement. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.07 - Episode 7: Shadow Mario in the Park -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him until he surrenders a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.08 - Episode 8: Roller Coaster Balloons -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Roller Coaster entrance is located across the bridge of the gazebo, with the pineapple. When on the Roller Coaster, wait until you get a missile, then fire it at the pink balloons. Sometimes you can hit 2 or 3 balloons with 1 shot. Good luck. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.F.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.G - Sirena Beach ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The fifth level. Located down the pipe on the rooftops, above the Statue of Delfino Plaza. This level is the equivalent of a classic Mario Ghost House. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.01 - Episode 1: The Manta Storm -------------------------------------------------------------------- This one is kind of challenging. Go up to the fluorescent-green slim/mud and talk to the Hotel Manager. Shortly after, a Manta (sting-ray type creature) will appear. Spray it to make it split. Spray the split parts to make them split, until you destroy all of the split parts of the Manta. Use the coins in the huts and in the trees. You will probably need them for life. Also, don't be left with an empty FLUDD. You will run out of water a few times during this battle, refill often. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.02 - Episode 2: The Hotel Lobby's Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on up towards the Hotel Delfino, and talk to the Hotel Manager. He will take you inside. In the middle of the lobby is a pillar with Pink Boos flying around it. You must spray the Pink Boos to turn them into platforms. Jump on the platforms until you reach the top. On the 3rd floor, jump into the Big Boo Statue's mouth, and into another Secret Stage. Good luck. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.03 - Episode 3: Mysterious Hotel Delfino -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on up towards the Hotel Delfino, and talk to the Hotel Manager. He will take you inside. Go up to the third floor and into the open door that leads to the spa area. You can't get into the spa, but just jump all around the floor until you find a loose tile. Mario will fall through to a room on the floor below. In this room is a painting on the wall, spray it until it fully reveals a picture of a Boo. Jump through the painting into the next room. In this room is a French/Japanese type door. Spray all 4 parts until you make a picture of Boo. Step on through to the next room. Here you'll see some more Pink Boos. Spray them to turn them into platforms. Then jump on up to a room on the next floor. In this room, spray the shelves to make them open up a new path-way. Go through to the next room. In this next room is a funny looking tile on the ground. You know what to do. Fall on down to the next floor. In this room is a bunch of crates. Break them open and grab a pineapple. Leave through the door. Go downstairs and get hatch Yoshi. Then take Yoshi up to the third floor. Take the open door in the corner by the spa. Jump on the bed in this room to get into the ventilation system above. Yoshi can eat all the Boos up here. Stomp on the cracked floor tiles until you find the one that leads to the spa, where the Shine is at. Grab el Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.04 - Episode 4: The Secret of Casino Delfino -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on up towards the Hotel Delfino, and talk to the Hotel Manager. He will take you inside. Head to the door near where the Yoshi Egg was at in Episode 3. Talk with the Pianta standing in front of the door. When in the Casino Delfino, spray the rollers on both slot machines. When you get all 7s, then a board with all ? marks will be revealed. Spray all the ? marks until the whole picture of the Shine is viewable. A pipe will then appear. Go in it to get to yet another Secret Stage. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.05 - Episode 5: King Boo Down Below -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on up towards the Hotel Delfino, and talk to the Hotel Manager. He will take you inside. Head to the door near where the Yoshi Egg was at in Episode 3. Talk with the Pianta standing in front of the door. When in the Casino Delfino, Ground Pound the only purple square on the roulette wheel. Welcome to King Boos basement of fun. When King Boo gets his slot machine, spray his tongue to make it spin the slot machine. Get all fruit icons for an assortment of fruit to come out. Grab the chilly pepper and then throw it into King Boo's mouth. Now grab another fruit and throw it at him. Repeat until King Boo is a goner and you leave with your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.06 - Episode 6: Scrubbing Sirena Beach -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode aint that fun. You must clean-up the beach and also the entrance-way to Hotel Delfino, within a time limit. Run down the beach first, while wiggling the control stick from left to right, as you spray. Don't worry about too many of the little specks of slime/mud, you can still get the Shine if the area is NOT 100% clean. Next, go to the entrance-way of the hotel, and don't forget to clean around the hunts. You may need to refill FLUDD in one of those bird-baths. Your Hover Nozzle isn't as effective as you'd like it to be, in this episode, but you may need to use it sparingly here. When Sirena Beach is clean enough, the Hotel Manager will give you a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.07 - Episode 7: Shadow Mario Checks In -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him until he surrenders a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.08 - Episode 8: Red Coins in the Hotel -------------------------------------------------------------------- Head on up towards the Hotel Delfino, and talk to the Hotel Manager. He will take you inside. This episode is much like Episode 3. Run through the hotel collecting all the Red Coins. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.G.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.H - Noki Bay ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The sixth level. Look up into the sun will standing in the pillar of light, within Delfino Plaza. Prepare for a lot of climbing. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.01 - Episode 1: Uncork the Waterfall -------------------------------------------------------------------- Time for a climb. Travel to the top of the level, while spraying all the graffiti painted on the side of the cliff. This will make platforms come out that you can use to climb on. Get to the top and fight Monte Mole again, as you did in Pinna Park. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.02 - Episode 2: The Boss of Tricky Ruins -------------------------------------------------------------------- Get on over to Grandpa Noki and talk to him. He will reveal the Secret of Noki Bay. Spray the cliff tiles to make them indent into the cliff. Wall jump through-out the indent and navigate over to the next cliff tile. Repeat again. You only have a limited amount of time to navigate through the indents. At the end you will, once again, fight Gooper Blooper. Defeat him and then fall down into the Tricky Ruins to get your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.03 - Episode 3: Red Coins in a Bottle -------------------------------------------------------------------- You will be put in a bottle right from the start. A trick you can use is to press the Y BUTTON for the "Look Around View", and still control Mario around. This comes in handy every once in a while. Watch your Life Meter constantly, and get Gold Coins to refill it. Get all the Red Coins to get the Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.04 - Episode 4: Eely-Mouth's Dentist -------------------------------------------------------------------- Time for another climb. You must transverse the cliffs of Noki Bay yet again. Go all the way to the top where you uncorked the waterfall in Episode 1. Talk to Grandpa Noki, then jump into the waterfall. Get ready to battle Eely and his nasty mouth. Control Mario around like you did in the bottle, and get Gold Coins when your Life Meter is low. You can also pop air bubbles and let Mario breath in the air to restore your Life Meter. Clean all of Eely's teeth when he opens his mouth. After all are clean, one tooth of his will fall out, and you get a Shine. Noki Bay is now back to it's normal refreshing clean self. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.05 - Episode 5: II Piantissimo's Surf Swim -------------------------------------------------------------------- Get up to the platforms, where II Piantissimo stands. It's another race to the flag. Jump on the platforms towards the flag, then jump down into the Noki Bay. Speed Swim with the R TRIGGER while tapping the A BUTTON, towards the flag. You'll win and get your Shine with no problem. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.06 - Episode 6: The Shell's Secret -------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, this is a little tuff. Take to the tight-ropes. Jump over the electricity. Get all the way up to the top, and jump in the Shell, for one of the hardest Secret Stages yet. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.07 - Episode 7: Hold It, Shadow Mario! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a little harder then normal. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him and be ready to do a lot of wall jumping. Near the top, he'll jump back down where he started. Follow him down and repeat the process. Eventually he'll surrender a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.08 - Episode 8: The Red Coin Fish -------------------------------------------------------------------- Go on up to the top, and jump into the waterfall, again. This is a Red Coin level, where the Red Coins are all attached to a fish made of Gold and Red Coins. The fish swims around and you must chase and touch him, to receive your Red Coins. It's best if you use the "Look Around View" tactic, by pressing the Y BUTTON and controlling Mario around. This comes in handy during this whole episode. Get all the Red Coins = Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.H.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.I - Pianta Village ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The seventh level. Located down a pipe, which is on the top of the Big Shine Emblem, within Delfino Plaza. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.01 - Episode 1: Chain Chomplets Unchained -------------------------------------------------------------------- There are 3 Chain Chomplets, with fevers, in this episode. You must spray them to cool them down, and then fling them into the middle water-hole with the palm tree island. Do this by pressing and holding down the B BUTTON then pulling back on the control stick. Also, move the control stick to the left and right to aim the fling. When the last one is in the water-hole, you'll be granted a Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.02 - Episode 2: II Piantissimo's Crazy Climb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Whoa! he actually beat me this once and only time. If you crash into II Piantissimo while doing the dive slide, you're history. The best way to beat this guy is to NOT take his same path. Take the left-most path in the level, while doing the dive slide. Do a triple jump right near the end, to get over the cement wall. Then run up the tree to the flag. You get Shine... -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.03 - Episode 3: The Goopy Inferno -------------------------------------------------------------------- There is 2 ways to do this episode. I prefer method 2. Get to the Mayor, located on top of the golden mushroom, and clean him. Method 1: Go to the hole with the gate at the bottom, located at the back of the level, near the hot spring pool. There is a Pianta standing near it. Ground Pound the bottom of the hole to get down to the underside of Pianta Village. Transverse until you get back up to the village, near the golden mushroom. Method 2: Go to where the water-hole is that you used in Episode 1. Splash water up on the goop by running in and out of the water. Make yourself a little trail, then do a double or triple jump towards the golden mushroom, while hovering. You can also use the little mud enemies to bounce off of their heads. When you get up near the golden mushroom, jump and hover on over to the big tree, in the middle of the level, and jump on up on it's platforms. Then jump and hover on over to the golden mushroom, and clean-up the Mayor. He'll then hook you up with a Shine for saving his life. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.04 - Episode 4: Chain Chomp's Bath -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is easy, but may not seam like it. It just takes a little patience. Spray the Chain Chomp until he is completely cooled-down. Then grab his chain-tail, by pressing the B BUTTON. Then just leave him alone by putting down his tail, and heading for the back of the level. Pick up a water-barrel near the hot spring pool, and then head on over to the hot spring pool, staying on the dirt path. When the Chain Chomp comes by, let him have the water-barrel, by pressing the B BUTTON. He will be completely cooled-down with this one barrel. Then grab his chain-tail and pull him into the hot spring pool area. DO NOT fall into the hot spring pool, instead, go around it and pull the Chain Chomp's head into it. There you go, jump on his head and grab your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.05 - Episode 5: Secret of the Village Underside -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode can be difficult. It involves getting Yoshi and then falling onto a mushroom below. Then jumping from mushroom to mushroom. First, cross the bridge. See what kind of fruit that the Yoshi Egg would like to have, then head on up to the little fruit tree. The tree is located on the big chunck of rock, covered in grass, that overlooks the Hot Spring. If you go to the Hot Spring and face towards the beginnig of the level, then you'll see what big chunck of rock that I'm talking about. Get the fruit, and then take it to the Yoshi Egg. Ride Yoshi over to the swing that's close by. You'll see one of those pits, with the movable gates at the bottom, near there. DON'T fall into the pit, just get on the side of it furthest from the bridge. If you're looking towards the beginning of the level, both that pit and the bridge should be on your right side. Take Yoshi and do a jump of faith off the cliff of the level. You, more then likely, will land on a purple pink mushroom. You can get down to some of these mushrooms by jumping off other parts of the level, but this is the best place for me. Now just jump from mushroom to mushroom, using Yoshi's Peddle Jump. You eill soon get to some yellow/orange slim/mud. Wash it off with Yoshi's Juice Spit, and jump down the hole. Get ready for a weird, yet easy, Secret Stage. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.06 - Episode 6: Piantas in Need -------------------------------------------------------------------- This episode is basic as can be. You have 3 minutes to clean the infernal goop, and wash off all the Piantas 'till they sparkle. If you'd like, after you've freed all the Piantas and washed them off, talk to each one to receive a ton of Blue Coins. Talk to the Mayor at the beginning of the level, to get your Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.07 - Episode 7: Shadow Mario Runs Wild -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fairly simple. Chase Shadow Mario around while spraying him and avoiding his infernal goop. He leaves a trailer behind him, so periodically wash the trail as you are concentrating on spraying him also. He will soon surrender his Shine. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.08 - Episode 8: Fluff Festival Coin Hunt -------------------------------------------------------------------- This one takes a very long time. Be prepared to search everywhere for these Red Coins. At least there is some relaxing music and a festival going on. You will also need to ride the Fluffs to get above for your Red Coin hunting extravaganza. Spray them to make them a bit bigger, so they don't descend so fast. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.09 - 100 Gold Coin Strategies -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.10 - Blue Coin Locations -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon) -------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.I.11 - Secret Red Coin Stages -------------------------------------------------------------------- (info coming soon)
