This is a brief guide for the video game demos in the Sonic Gems Collection for the Nintendo Gamecube. What are the video game demoes? Well... On the Sonic Gems Collection, if you play the game every single day, you will begin to unlock the video game demos of classic Sonic games for the Genesis and the Game Gear. From what I have heard, there has not been a set, foolproof way to unlocking the games, but I will list what I did and this method works fairly well. The games will appear in the Museum when unlocked. I. Unlocking the Demos - Traditional Method Play the games Sonic CD, Sonic the Fighters and Sonic R everyday for 8 consecutive days. They must be consecutive or this won't work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After 3 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic the Hedgehog for Genesis and GG After 4 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic 2 and Sonic Labyrinth After 5 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic 3 and Sonic Drift After 6 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Chaos After 7 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic Spinball and Sonic Blast After 8 Days of Playing | Unlocked Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for both After 9 Days of Playing | Unlocked Sonic 1,2,3, and Knuckles with good ends ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Unlocking the Demos - "Preferred Method" It's called the Preferred Method because it's much more convenient to cheat than play for 9 days straight. This method only takes about 30 minutes to do to unlock all of the demos. 1) Play the games Sonic CD, Sonic the Fighters and Sonic R. And by play, I mean enter the game and then exit. The Game counts that as playing, so that saves time. 2) After you exit the last game, turn off the Gamecube. 3) Turn the Gamecube back on and go to the System Menu. 4) Turn to the clock setting and set the date to the next day. 5) Begin the Game. 6) Check the museum. 7) Repeat steps 1 through 6 until all of the games are unlocked. This is a very convenient method. And there have been rumors of using this method corrupting data. That is NOT TRUE! The System Clock has nothing to do with the Memory Card in terms of Loading and Saving. Don't beleive everything that you hear. When you finish unlocking the games, you can return your clock back to normal. III. Troubleshooting There are a few things to remember when unlocking the games because problems might arise. Don't just automatically assume that you have corrupted data, that is virtually impossible to happen. Be at ease. 1) Don't try unlocking the demos around midnight. You might end up two days forward, instead of one, thus ruining the consecutive days. If that happens, just continue the preferred method until you end up back to the number of days to the next game you unlock. 2) Don't start unlocking demos when a new month is just around the corner. I noticed near the beginning of September, people have been complaining that they stopped recieving demos. It's because a new month will have reset the consecutive day count. If this happens, just continue the preferred method until you end up back to the number of days to the next game you unlock. I hope this helps. /////////////////////Insanity and the Action Replay Code\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ /////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Welcome to the section called Insanity. It's called that because Sega did something insane, that is, every single one of the demos is the full version of the game. This makes sense because it would require more work to cut out just a part of a cartridge game than to just include the full game. And so Sega did just that. But instead, they put a time limit on the games and passed them off as demos. This is a marketing scheme so that when a player is playing the demos, they think "Wow! Now I want to buy Sonic Mega Collection!" Unfortunately, this only applies to those that don't have Sonic Mega Collection or don't already have the games on their Sega Genesis or Game Gear. Or don't have Action Replay for the Gamecube... F19Y-HXE5-TJP42 VHBU-HBME-FD686 2K0P-P0P7-1VWMQ Yes, apparently it's already been found out without me knowing for 2 years. I still don't know if this actually works, but if it does, you guys are in luck. This code supposedly freezes the time limit allowing you to play indefinately, if you felt like it. Or if you don't have Action Replay, Sonic Mega Collection, any of the old cartridges, or an online emulator, this is the best way to play the old Sonic games. Literally. /////////////////////////////Genesis Game Demos\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ /////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ All the Genesis Games can, theoretically, be fully played even with a time limit. This is because all of the Genesis Games come with either a code for stage select or a password feature. So, when the time runs out, simply input stage select or a password to continue where you left off. The only drawback is that you always have to kill yourself off when you fight the final boss in each game, in order to have a decent amount of time to play the full version of the game. But hey, at least it works! A. Sonic The Hedgehog (Good or Bad Version) There is virtually no difference when playing either of the Sonic Demos, aside from the fact that one has the good ending and one has the bad ending. ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 3:00 minutes Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- If you kill yourself off in the final zone, you should be able to pull off at least 3 minutes, and that's long enough to beat any stage in the game. Stage Select: On the title screen, push Up, Down, left, right. You'll hear a ring chime if done correctly. Press Start + B to enter stage select. *If you want, you can also enter Debug mode by pushing Up, X, Down, X, left, X, right, before pushing Start + B. When you select a stage, push start + B to start the stage and enter debug mode. B. Sonic 2 (Good Version) Regardless on how you restart the game, whether you kill yourself off or beat the final boss, you should still have all 7 emeralds collected when you start the game over from any stage. That saves time on either "collecting the emeralds" (yeah, that's not gonna happen...), or inputing the code for all the emeralds. (Bad Version) You won't be able to start off with all the emeralds in your pocket. You'll have to cheat for them. ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 10:00 minutes Main Game Time - 6:00 minutes Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- You need to kill yourself off, and it's really easy to do in this level. You can get at least a good 6 minutes to play the game. Stage Select: In the Option mode, go to sound test and play 19, 65, 09, 17. You'll hear a ring chime if you did it correctly. Then when you're on the title screen, push start + B to go to stage select. *If you want, you can also get all seven emeralds. On the stage select screen, go to the sound test and play 04, 01, 02, 06. You'll hear the emerald chime if you do it correctly. *If you want, you can also enter Debug mode. On the stage select screen, go to the sound test and play 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04. You should hear a ring chime if you do it correctly. When you select a stage, push start + B to start the stage and enter debug mode. Remember, typing in all of these codes will cost you time so remember. C. Sonic 3 (Good Version) There is an alternate way to stage select but it requires beating the final boss. After beating the boss, go to the file select screen and the first file is your file with all the Chaos Emeralds. Press up or down to select a stage or just press start to see the ending again. Unlike the traditional stage select, (mentioned below), this is much easier to accomplish but you can only select the first act of every level and your time playing is greatly reduced since you had to beat the game in order to pull this off. (Bad Version) Absolutely nothing special. I haven't checked, but I heard that the game does not use a save file to save the last level. ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 15:00 minutes Main Game Time - 12:00 minutes 4:00 minutes (Traditional way) Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - Yes, sort of... ----------------------------------- If you kill youself off, you can get at least a whopping 12 minutes to play Sonic 3! Stage Select: After the Sega logo appears, you need to push Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up. You need to push it really, really fast before the title screen of Sonic 3 appears. I suggest using the D-Pad instead of the Joystick to perform this trick for obvious reasons. You'll hear a ring chime if you did it correctly. Then when you're on the title screen, push up to select sound test, which is stage select. *If you want, you can also enter Debug mode. Push start + B when selecting a stage on stage select to enter debug mode. *Interesting to note that the save feature does indeed work for the duration of the time limit. It just won't permanetly save after you leave the game. D. Sonic and Knuckles ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 10:00 minutes Main Game Time - 3:00 minutes Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- This time, I do not recommend killing yourself off because you are Super Sonic and the time it takes to kill yourself off is ridiculous. You're better off just beating the level as fast as you can. Unfortunately, I can only get a max of 3 minutes play time with the credits and everything, so this is kinda the only game where it's impossible to beat every stage. But that's alright, we have a bunch of other games. Stage Select: In Mushroom Hill Zone, find a pulley see-saw and hang on it. Then, push left, left, left, right, right, right, up, up, up, and you should hear a ring chime. Push start and then B to return to the title screen. On the title screen, push start + B to go to stage select. E. Sonic 3D Blast ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 10:00 minutes Main Game Time - 7:00 minutes Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- Do it, kill yourself off. You will get 7 minutes of play time. Stage Select: On the Title Screen, press A, B, Right, B, X, Up, Down, B. You should automatically be brought to the menu. When you select start game, you will be taken to the stage select screen. *At any time during the game, if you used stage select, you can skip levels by pressing start and then B. F. Sonic Spinball ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 20:00 minutes! Main Game Time - 19:00 minutes! Stage Select - Yes Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- Wow, you can kill yourself fast enough to get a full 19 minutes to play the game! Drool... Stage Select: On the Options Screen, Push B, Down, A, Down, X, Down, B, A, Up, B, X, Up, A, X, Up. You should hear a jingle if you did it correctly. On the title screen, holding one of the buttons and then pressing start will take you to a specific level.. ---------------------------------- Hold B, push start | Stage 2 Hold A, push start | Stage 3 Hold X, push start | Stage 4 ---------------------------------- G. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 4:30 minutes Stage Select - No Password - Yes Save - No ----------------------------------- Kill yourself off, it's the most easy thing in the world. Just hold down! Over 4 minutes of playtime. This game has a password feature, so you can play the entire game with no hassle! Well, except for the time limit. And as a bonus, multiplayer! Play against a friend! //////////////////////////////Game Gear Demos\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ /////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Unfortunately, the Game Gear Games aren't worth much to play, with the exception of Mean Bean Machine and Labyrinth. 2 of them cannot be fully played even when trying to cheat, so there's not much to say about these games. And for some reason, I haven't been able to figure out the codes for the Game Gear games, so even if you should find time left over, it wouldn't do you any good. But, here they are... H. Sonic the Hedgehog ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 2:30 minutes Stage Select - No Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- You can't complete this game with a time limit because there is no physical way possible. No stage select, no password, no save, that equals mediocre game... I. Sonic Labyrinth ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 0:00 minutes? Stage Select - Yes? Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- I haven't been able to die fast enough or beat the game fast enough, so it seems like it's impossible to play the full game. Unless I'm otherwise proven wrong... At any rate, I actually liked the demo, so I want to play the full version soon J. Sonic Drift ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 3:00 minutes Main Game Time - 0:00 minutes Stage Select - Technically... Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- This is the only game in the museum with a time limit of 3 minutes. What a ripoff! There's absolutely no time to do anything. But then again, Sonic Drift isn't that special to begin with... K. Sonic Chaos ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 2:00 minutes Stage Select - Dunno Password - No Save - No ----------------------------------- I'd suggest killing yourself off, but I don't know much more than that. You can beat the first two stages with 2 minutes. L. Sonic Blast ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - ? Stage Select - ? Password - ? Save - ? ----------------------------------- I never beat it or was able to kill myself fast enough. So, I don't know much. M. Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine ----------------------------------- Time Limit - 5:00 minutes Main Game Time - 4:30 minutes Stage Select - No Password - Yes Save - No ----------------------------------- It's pretty much the same as the Genesis version. Except the Genesis version is superior in every single way. The only thing the Game Gear version has is a puzzle mode, which is kinda cool. That's the only reason to play this game. //////////////////////////////Version History\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ /////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 4/16/07 Version Final Apparently, there's an Action Replay Code to freeze the time limits imposed on the demos for quite some time. I just never got around to putting them up. Kudos to stickyman05 for letting me know. I can now wipe my hands from this, faq, regardless on whether or not the code actually work... 9/4/05 Version 1.2 Added more information to unlocking the demos. Apparently, a new month affects the addition of more demos... 8/29/05 Version 1.1 Added information about good/bad version games, since it actually does make a difference. Thanks to Angnix for informing me! 8/25/05 Version 1.0 How could I forget Sonic Spinball? *Slaps Face* Also fixed some errors here and there, but the complete Game Gear list is here... 8/22/05 Version 0.9 Almost all done, just have to finish the Game Gear Demos. ///////////////////////////////Legal Content\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ /////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This document is copyright 2005 R.
