Introduction --------------- The world famous Resident Evil Series by Capcom continues, but this time, the timeline moves all the way back to the beginning. This is when all it began, the Mansion Incident. Many documents found throughout the game can give you more insight into the history of Umbrella. Resident Evil Zero is a game that was first was announced in the late 1990s, about 1999 or 2000, I think, when Resident Evil 2 for the Super Nintendo 64 was released. However, for some strange reason, the project was cancelled silently. But now, Capcom decided to release the game exclusively for the Nintendo Gamecube. This game has many dazzling new features, including the all new player zapping system, where you can switch between characters in a blink of an eye, as well as the absence of item boxes, so you can drop items anywhere you desire. Well, I must say, Capcom has done it big time for Nintendo, and this can further encourage people to go buy a Gamecube. --------------- 2. Updates --------------- Version 1.5: Added a new section called: Feedback Information at the back of the guide. Also added the Files Index. Version 1.4 Allowed IGN to publish this guide. Version 1.3 Added some alternate lines for easier reading. Version 1.2 Fixed the mistake in the character profiles that Dr. Marcus was killed by "William and Birkin". Version 1.1 Fixed some spelling and grammatical mistakes. --------------- 3. Story --------------- It was July 1998, many freak murder incidents occurred in Raccoon Forest, in the outskirts of Raccoon city. To investigate the murders, the Raccoon Police Department sent in the STARS Bravo team to investigate. Unfortunately, the team experienced engine trouble and had to touch down in Raccoon Forest. Everyone survived the accident, but nearby, there was an overturned MP Vehicle. 18-year old Rookie Rebecca Chambers discovered that the vehicle was transporting a Navy Lieutenant Billy Coen for execution. Therefore, Enrico Marini ordered the entire team to separate to search for this villain. At the same time, one of the helicopter pilots called Kevin stayed in the helicopter to contact the headquarters. (he was found to be mauled and killed in the opening FMV of Resident Evil.) Rebecca followed his orders, and started to inspect a train that stopped on the rails somewhere near the crash site. This was when her adventure begins. --------------- 4. Characters --------------- Although this is the game for STARS Bravo Team, only Rebecca Chambers, Enrico Marini and Edward Dewey had actually said something. No one else got a line! Apart from this, only Enrico and Edward will be met, hence only these 3 members of the STARS Bravo Team will be introduced. I must really feel sorry for Kenneth and Forest. They arrive, and did not even say a word. The next time you see them, they are dead. --------------- Rebecca Chambers --------------- The 18 year old child prodigy medic is one of the star players in the game (no pun intended). She is rather short for an 18-year old, and still behaves quite immaturely, typical of many geniuses. She can mix herbs while Billy cannot. However, she has many bad attributes. For instance, just one zombie bite and she is in Yellow Caution. In this game, she again is a bad piano player, and now I know why so many people hate Rebecca. --------------- Billy Coen --------------- New File! Court Order for Transportation Court Order for Transportation 1598A-7635 Prisoner name: Billy Coen ID Number: D-1036 Former Second Lieutenant, Marine Corps Age: 26 Height: 5ft. 9in. Weight: 163 lbs. Transfer Destination: Regarthon Base Convicted of First Degree Murder. Court marshaled and sentenced to death by the 0703rd Military Tribunal. Sentenced to be carried out upon arrival. Samuel Regan, Commander, Dunell Marine Base Explanation: The 2nd star player of the game. Billy, aged in the twenties, is accused to have murdered 23 people somewhere in Africa while being in the Marines. As he was transported, the MP van had an accident and he was left in the wild. I like this character, mainly because of his longer HP meter. He can take 4 zombie bites before he is in Caution, good for those zombie-brawlers out there. (including me. Heh heh.) He can also take a very big beating, and yet is still in Green Fine. Therefore, I would suggest letting Billy take all the strain whenever possible, then you can save a lot of healing items in the long run. --------------- Enrico Marini --------------- The Captain of STARS Bravo Team, Enrico is more high-spirited when compared to Resident Evil. Although he is the captain, Rebecca only met him once and only once in the entire game, and never saw him again. --------------- Edward Dewey --------------- The co-pilot of Bravo Team. Resident Evil fans now finally get to get a glimpse of his face. He was eventually killed by Cerberus dogs. But as his dead body still has both hands, we can conclude that the hand Joseph Frost found in the forest in the RE original is not Edward's. --------------- Albert Wesker --------------- The leader of the entire STARS. He works for Umbrella, even before he joined STARS. His desertion of Umbrella can be seen in the middle of the game, and he revealed that he really would lure the STARS Alpha team to the mansion. --------------- William Birkin --------------- He is a researcher genius who developed the G-virus from the T-virus. Along with Albert Wesker, he was watching the actions of Rebecca and Billy from behind the scenes until a man dressed like the messiah repeatedly gave threats to them. I was surprised that he did not even try to stop Albert Wesker from leaving Umbrella. His sticky end can be found in RE2. --------------- James Marcus --------------- From the files scattered around the game, I find that he was the Co-founder of Umbrella along with Lord Spencer. Being the first general manager of the Umbrella Training Facility, he broke his own rules and attempt to use his T-virus research to control Umbrella. That's why Spencer had to assassinate him to maintain the company discipline. Poor guy, he was killed by the ones he trusted the most, Albert Wesker and William Birkin. Some more information on James Marcus can be found in this EX File from the Nintendo 64 version of Resident Evil 2. It briefly portrays him as a person who abused his power while he was a chief researcher. EX File! Mother Virus Report The Mother Virus was first discovered by Ozwell E. Spencer. And it was him, who founded Umbrella Inc.. As time passed, Spencer's research was succeeded to Dr. J. Marcus. However, Dr. Marcus abused his power and had to be fired. Following Dr. Marcus came Dr. William Birkin. Dr. Birkin's experiments delivered many outstanding results including the T-virus. It is presumed that that he will be finishing work on the more powerful G-virus in the near future. Currently, research on the Mother Virus takes place at our laboratories all over the world. In the near future, we hope to discover many new viruses. --------------- 5. Basics --------------- Button Configuration Type A: A: Open doors, examine surroundings, shoot while in Attack Stance B: Hold while pushing the control stick or Directional Pad forward to run, Cancel Selection C: Control Partner character manually X: Switch Character Y: Status Screen Z: Show Map Control Stick or Directional Pad: Press up to move in the direction the character is facing, press down to backtrack, press left and right to rotate character R: Attack Stance L: Unused START: Switch between Solo and Team stances Ammo usage: As in many survival horror games, there are fewer handgun bullets relative to the enemies that are found in the game, so you must conserve ammo, and try to avoid zombies that you don't have to kill! However, I found out that ammo is only an issue in the earlier parts of the game, as stronger weapons like the shotgun become available, you can act as the exterminator, and kill anything that gets in your way. Different Roles: Rebecca can mix herbs, but will drop to Yellow Caution in only one zombie bite! So she should almost always be the medic. Billy has a larger HP meter, so he can be the fighter. In this game, each character can carry 6 items, totaling to 12, so this game may seem easier. However, because there is no longer any Item Box, be sure to only take what you need when changing areas. Be informed that this game does not like backtrackers. When you return to an earlier spot, there will most likely be more zombies there. So take what you need! Health System: Green Fine: 75% - 100% Health Yellow Caution: 50% - 75% Health Orange Caution: 25% - 50% Health Red Danger: 0% - 25% Health Purple Poison: Health slowly drops Green Herbs can heal about 25% health. Blue Herbs heal poison, and Red Herbs, when combined with Green Herbs can heal full health, so can First Aid Sprays. Files: Files contain many clues to how to solve many puzzles in the mansion, so always pick them up if you are a beginner. However, if you are trying to complete the game in less than 3 hours, skip all files, and try to memorize the solutions to the puzzles. -------------------------------- 6. Rebecca and Billy's Scenario -------------------------------- "A Midwestern town in America. Raccoon City. A solitary island far off in the sea. Rock Fort Island. An island that would become the second Raccoon City. Sheena Island. There are still a lot of questions about these seemingly unrelated, yet traumatic events. Though it is believed that the international enterprise Umbrella is somehow involved, little is known about the origin of this faceless corporation. When was it established. By whom? And, how was the T-Virus created. To uncover the truth, we must dwell deeper in the events that have transpired in the beginning. Before the mansion incident." It was about 8:00pm on July 14, 1998. A certain passenger train was moving along the railways of the Arklay Mountains. The passengers are all in a cherry mood. Meanwhile, on a high cliff overlooking the railway, a man dressed as the messiah stretches out his arms. A passenger (with an Umbrella badge) notices some splatting sounds. Suddenly, a leech jumps and sticks to the window, revealing its teeth. A lot of leeches then stick to the windows, casuing the man to urn away screaming. Meanwhile, many more leeches storm into the train, killing everyone, including the drivers of the train. Meanwhile, the train speeds on and grinds to a halt. After the FMV with the passengers of the train being killed by the leeches, STARS Bravo team will land near the train. "Check your current position and investigate the surrounding area," S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team captain Enrico Marini ordered. Rebecca notices an M.P. van. "Captain! Look!" The Bravo Team moves forward to check the M.P. van with slime dripping off it, to find a lot of dead bodies, and a file about a prisoner known as Billy Coen. "Court order for transportation. Prisoner, Billy Coen. Ex-lieutenant 26 years old. Court-martialed and sentenced to death July 22nd. Prisoner to be transported to the Regathorn Base for execution." Edward Dewey grabs the file. "Those poor soldiers, they were good men just doing their job, and that scum murdered them and escaped." "All right, everyone, let's separate and survey the area. Our friend is brutal and vicious. Keep your guard up," Enrico orders. Rebecca enters the train on the tracks nearby, and "The door to safety is shut, there is no turning back..." *****TRAIN***** -------------------- Dark Passenger Car -------------------- Go through the door to Rebecca's left. --------------------- Bright Passenger Car --------------------- After Rebecca is introduced to the zombies, turn around and shoot the one behind Rebecca. He will only take two shots. Then go through the door quick! New Enemy! Zombie Strength: Handgun: 4-8 shots, decapitation may occur. Shotgun: 1-2 shots, decapitation may occur if you aim upwards. This is the most common enemy of Resident Evil, they march towards you slowly, and grab and bite you! I suggest you use the Handgun against them. It is much easier to decapitate zombies than the REmake, so blast and be merry. --------------- Cabin Car --------------- In the corridor, there are 2 adjacent cabins. Enter the first door. --------------- Cabin 202 --------------- Take the Handgun Ammo off the bed, and you will find an interesting file. New File! Passenger's Diary July 14th Orders came from the boss today. Looks like we're in charge of investigating the remains of the Arklay Mountains laboratory. We're moving in two groups, with us in the initial group, assigned to start checking what's left of the abandoned experiment. (1) July 16th Unfortunately, the test production of B.O.W. (Type-Y139) had to be suspended because of this investigation. It's the same with Type-Y-139. There's still so much we didn't know about responses to the crustacean t-virus. There's a lot of interesting research left... Depending on the species and nurturing conditions, only minute doses of "t" bring about solidity, size, multiplication of internal toxins and brain development. If these effects can be controlled, a powerful weapon could be produced. But the sudden development of the shell results in a corresponding fragility. Certain areas become exceedingly weak. Problematically, one of these areas is the head carapace. (2) This lab we are going to- were they pursuing the same research? It would certainly help to find data and samples that would help us in our research. June 19th The day is finally approaching... I am growing more anxious. The Raccoon City newspapers and TV stations are full of reports about the bizarre murders in the suburbs. It can't be the virus. Can it? If it is... No. I can't think of that now. I have to concentrate on this investigation and make sure it goes smoothly. Explanations: (1) This proves that some of the passengers of this train belong to Umbrella, and are not going on a vacation. (2) The Giant Scorpion you are going to fight later has the same weak spot in the head. Go back to the main corridor. --------------- Cabin Car --------------- Enter the next cabin. -------------------- Cabin 201 Save Room -------------------- There is some Ink Ribbons here. Save if you wish, then pick up the Green Herb and the File on the bed. New File! Investigation Orders (Stained with blood, some sections are illegible). 8 miles north pf Raccoon City, in the Arklay Mountains, lies our comp ny's Management Training facility. It was shut down years ag . Now, w are conducting a preliminary tudy into the re-opening of the faci ities. First Investigation Unit is alre dy on-site and opening th investigat ation., I want yo r team to provide suppo t. The following orders re Will m Bark and 1s I ves gat o Un t. ...(the rest is torn and unreadable). Explanation: This gives you an idea that the Umbrella employees in this train were to investigate an abandoned Training Facility in the Arklay Mountains. The 1st Investigator Unit suffered a horrible fate, as by the time you arrive there, you will find many zombies wearing military uniforms. Get back to the corridor. --------------- Cabin Car --------------- The door to the conductor's office is locked, so is the Card Key door, so inspect the train employee's body for a Train Key, which is a Dining Car Key. After this, you will be introduced to Billy Coen. Rebecca wants to arrest him, but Billy just ignores her and goes away, ignoring her threat to shoot him. Then more drama! Edward jumps through the window, he tells Rebecca about zombies and monsters in the forest before his killers, 2 Cerberus dogs jumps in to join Rebecca! New Enemy! MA-39 Cerberus Strength: Handgun: 4-6 Shots These hellhounds are one of the Bio Organic Weapons of Umbrella Inc. They try to bite onto your hand, or will pounce on you, trying to bite your neck off. But the good thing is, that there are only 4 in this game. When they charge at you, you can always send them sprawling to the floor with the Handgun as they jump, then the most damage can be inflicted. After the Cerberuses are dead, get the Handgun Ammo from Edward and return to the Dark Passenger, killing or avoiding zombies as you go. ------------------- Dark Passenger Car ------------------- Rebecca will be warned by Enrico about Billy Coen's murder of 23 people. Then walk to the other end of the car, killing the zombie, and enter the Dining Car. --------------- Dining Car 1F --------------- Rebecca meets Billy again, he suggests they cooperate with each other. Rebecca very immaturely refuses. "Don't call me a little girl!" Then get the file on a desk and send Miss Do-it Yourself up the stairs. New File! Notice to Supervisors When closing the dining car, supervisors are asked to switch off the automatic doors after ensuring all staff have vacated the car. The main automatic door power switch is located on the roof of the fifth car. Inspections will take place when the train is garaged. After inspections are complete, use the ladder at the rear of the second floor of the dining car. Umbrella Corp. Maintenance Department Explanation: This shows that this train belongs to Umbrella, and a switch for the automatic doors in this room are found on the roof of this train. --------------- Dining Car 2F --------------- Move a little bit forward and Rebecca will have a nice chat with a rather bald passenger, but suddenly, his head falls off, and breaks down into hundreds of leeches. The leeches then reform into: New Enemy! Humanoid Leech Strength: Molotov Cocktails: 3 Cocktails These guys are really an indestructible force. Most bullets bounce off them, and their limbs will fall off one by one if normal bullets are used. Finally, the lower body will explode, causing damage to everyone! So the best thing to do is to use Molotov Cocktails and other flame based weapons to kill them quick. Run back to the stairs, and Billy comes to save the day. The leeches disperse, and return to their owner, a long haired young man dressed like the messiah. The train starts moving, and Billy asks Rebecca to investigate. He gives her 30 Handgun bullets, what a nice guy... Then split the team up and have Rebecca climb up the ladder behind a window. -------------------- Train Roof as Rebecca -------------------- As Rebecca, move forwards until you see a severed wire, reconnect them, and leeches will knock Rebecca into the hole! ------------------------- Train Storage as Rebecca ------------------------- Take the Green Herb and combine it with the one you already have. Take the Handgun ammo as well as the train key. The train key is a conductor's key. Use the lift to send it to the 1st floor. Switch to Billy. ------------------------ Dining Room as Billy ------------------------ Go down the stairs and through the auto doors. Then take the Conductor's Key from the lift. Then return to the Cabin Car, killing any zombie that gets in the way. -------------------- Cabin Car as Billy -------------------- You can now access the Conductor's office with the conductor's key. What are you waiting for? Enter! ---------------------------- Conductor's Office as Billy ---------------------------- Ignore the herbs, but take the Train Map, the File and the Briefcase. Then press the red switch to reveal a ladder. Climb up. New File! Note from Conductor The key card for the Driver's compartment is in my bag always. But I need the other guy's key too to open the damn thing. But, it looks like I've lost it somewhere. If it was a normal key, someone would be sure to turn it in, but this key is different... I'll look for it too, but if you happen to find it, please hand it in. Thanks in advance. Explanation: The Keycard for the Card Key Door is in the briefcase, but it requires 2 unusual looking keys to open the case. ----------------------- Ecliptic Salon as Billy ----------------------- Check the menu, it look's like they're serving Mediterranean Style Shrimp Capriccio Roast Chicken, yummy! Anyway, move forward and Billy will hear something disturbing above the ceiling. Head through the other door, dropping items until there are 4 blocks remaining, but leave the Handgun ammo --------------------- Cabin Car 2F as Billy --------------------- Take the Ice Pick from the self service trolley, and enter the other cabin. ------------------- Cabin 101 as Billy ------------------- Take the Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo and the Hunting Gun. Then return to the Ecliptic salon. New Weapon! Hunting Gun Ammo: Shotgun Shells in Units of 7 This is a hunting shotgun that holds 2 rounds at a time. It is rather weak, so be ready to dump it after the first boss battle. ----------------------- Ecliptic Salon as Billy ----------------------- Move forward and a Giant Scorpion will crash through the ceiling. It seems as if it wants some Mediterranean Style Shrimp Capriccio Roast Billy! Boss Battle! Type Y-139 Giant Scorpion Strength: Combined usage of the Hunting Gun and Knife: 2 shots and about 12 stabs First, shoot the 2 rounds of the Hunting Gun into the scorpion's head then follow up with repeated stabs of the knife. Just watch out for the scorpion when he covers his pincers with his head and charges Billy. Don't worry if Billy gets hit, the hits are weaker than zombie bites. If Billy is injured, simply use the First Aid Spray in Cabin 101 to heal. After the battle, a Panel Opener will be revealed. Take it, along with the other items you dropped. Dump the Hunting Gun and the Knife. Then return to the Dining Car. -------------------- Dining Car as Billy -------------------- Use the panel opener on the panel, and crawl through the crawlspace. ------------------- Cargo Car as Billy ------------------- 2 Cerberus Dogs will jump out of the cages. Just kill them, and take the Shotgun Ammo, the Gas Tank and the Gold Ring. Combine the Gold Ring with the Briefcase. Then head back to the Dining Car through the door. -------------------- Dining Car as Billy -------------------- As you move back for the lift, a zombie bursts out of the refrigerator! How did he get there? Kill him, and combine the empty bottles found there with the Gas Tank to form 3 Molotov Cocktails! New Weapon! Molotov Cocktail The Molotov Cocktails are the hand thrown bottles with a burning cloth used by rioters and angry mobs around the world. This is particularly effective on the Humanoid leeches. However, before throwing, ensure that the partner is not in front of you or he or she will be roasted too! Now, send the Ice Pick to the 2nd floor via the lift. Switch to Rebecca. --------------------------- Train Storage with Rebecca --------------------------- Take the Ice Pick from the lift, and use it to unjam the door. Then leave, go down and join Billy. With the team rejoined, enter the Cargo Car. --------------- Cargo Car --------------- Go through the other door. --------------- Train Rear --------------- Split the team up, use Billy to operate the release lever, and Rebecca to take the Hookshot. There is a manual included. New File! Hookshot Operator's Manual -WARNING- This device should only be used when inspecting difficult to access car roofs, or when connecting special trains. Return to its proper location after use. Instructions 1. Where to use. There is a ladder outside the small window by the 1st floor section door of the third carriage. Fire the device so that it hooks high onto the ladder. 2. Using the Winch to Climb. After securing the hook, use the winch to lift yourself up. This grappling hook can only lift one person at a time. Be aware that the unit may be damaged if lifting more than 80 kg. Explanation: This file is self-explanatory. You should use the hookshot in the Bright Passenger Car where there is a window and an out of reach ladder. With the Hookshot, return to the Bright passenger Car, ignoring any zombie in the way. Give the Briefcase to Rebecca. --------------------- Bright Passenger Car --------------------- As Rebecca, go to the window stated on the file and use the hookshot. She will be in another part of the Train Roof. ---------------------- Train Roof as Rebecca ---------------------- Go forward and jump down the hole. -------------------- Cabin 102 as Rebecca -------------------- There is a zombie with an awed expression on his face. Perhaps he is thinking, "Oh! What modern designs these trains have!" Silence him, and take the Jewelry Box. Inside is the Silver Ring. Combine it with the Briefcase and it will be unlocked. Inside is the Blue Card Key. Exit. Meanwhile, the leeches outside the eggs will start to look at one another as if trying to say, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" They start to hatch. Anyway, return to Billy through the stairs and take the Green Herb on the way. Then regroup and go to the Cabin Car, again ignoring the zombies. --------------- Cabin Car --------------- Use the Blue Card Key on the reader. Then as you are about to open the door. You overhear a conservation between a masked Umbrella trooper and guees what? Your own leader Albert Wesker from the Birkin Lab. "This is Delta Team, this is Delta Team, we have regained control of the train. Over." "Understood," Albert Wesker says. Meanwhile, William Birkin is getting surprised that the T-virus has contaminated the mansion, the train and the lab so quickly. "This does not make any sense. How has the T-Virus leaked, and why did it contaminate both the lab and the mansion, as well as the train that's almost three miles away?" Albert Wesker covers the microphone, "That's irrelevant. We must make sure no knowledge of this gets out. Destroy the train, completely." Albert Wesker asks the commando, "How far away are you from the nearest branch line?" "About ten minutes to... huh?" Suddenly, some leeches attack the trooper and his friend and they did a fancy leech dance with Indian cries before falling down. Now, go through the door. --------------- Driver Car --------------- The engine has been badly damaged beyond repair. Enter the driver's compartment. Billy has found that the Train will derail in 4 minutes, and it is up to them to stop it! Puzzle Time! We got to stop the train, or else... Refer to the file to operate the brakes. New File! Brake Operation Manual Using the Brake control. The following three steps are necessary to operate the brakes: Step 1: activating the controls. Brake controls are located in the following locations: -First car Driver's Compartment. -Rear deck of the fifth car. To activate the system, you must insert the magnetic card into the device in the fifth car. This will supply power to both sets of controls. Step 2: Enter Rear Deck Code. Enter the code for the rear deck unit to release the lock. After this the Driver's Compartment code can be input. Step 3: Enter Driver's Compartment Code Enter the code for the Driver's Compartment unit to remove the lock. Upon completion of these three steps the manual brakes will be available for use. Explanations: Step 1: Ask Rebecca to stay behind, then as Billy, take the magnetic card from the control panel, and head all the way back to the Train Rear via the 2nd floor, as this can avoid most of the zombies. Just let the Edward Dewey zombie bite you. Use the First Aid Spray if needed. If Rebecca is used, there will be an additional FMV where she tries to reason with Edward Dewey. At the train rear, insert the Magnetic Card into the brake device. Step 2: On the screen, there will be a number, your objective is to enter the numbers with the numerical keys so that by the 10th button, the number on the left matches the one on the right. This is like the game Target. For example if the number 36 is displayed on the right, key in "3" 9 times then key in 9. The rear brakes will be activated. Step 3: As Rebecca, take the Handgun Ammo behind her first, and then use the lock. The device is similar to that of Billy's except that there is no number in the left. Again it is a game of Target. For example, if 67 is displayed, Key in "7" 9 times then key in 4. With both devices activated, Rebecca will activate the brakes, and it will go on a branch line and crash in the basement of the Training Facility. "Are the faint sounds of footsteps those of survivors?" *****TRAINING FACILITY***** --------------- Train Wreck --------------- Apparently not, those footsteps belong to the zombies from the wreck, quickly head out of the room. --------------- Sewer --------------- Climb up the ladder on the other end. --------------- Hall --------------- Billy climbs up through the trapdoor. The two look around, realizing that they have stumbled upon Umbrella's Research Centre. Meanwhile, Wesker and Birkin observe them from the CCTV, only to be interrupted by Dr. James Marcus's voice over the Public Address system. "Who on earth are those people?" William Birkin asks. "She's just a rookie, a member of S.T.A.R.S." Albert Wesker says. "And how about the male?" "I'm unfamiliar with..." Albert says, only to be interrupted by Dr. James Marcus's voice over the Public Address system. "Attention! This is Dr. Marcus. Please be silent as we reflect about our company motto. Obedience breeds discipline, discipline breeds unity, unity breeds power. Power is life!" By listening to the Umbrella company motto, I finally understood why there are so many maniacs in the organization. The reason is that "Power is life!" Every Umbrella researcher only cares of oneself as they are all power hungry. If Umbrella did not use this motto, I think that Umbrella would not be as evil as it is now. After that, an image of the messiah guy in white robe occupies every CCTV screen of Birkin and Wesker's control room. "Who are you?" William Birkin asks. "It was I who scattered the T-Virus in the mansion. Needless to say I contaminated the train too." The messiah guy responds. "What?" "Revenge, on Umbrella." You see the messiah guy stretching out his hands, and a whole group of leeches cam out and built up the figure of a man, who looks identical to Dr. Marcus" "Dr. Marcus?" William Birkin asks. This robed man accused Birkin and Wesker of helping in the murder of Dr. Marcus, it is now time for revenge. "10 years ago, Dr. Marcus was murdered by Umbrella. You helped them, didn't you?" Ha ha ha ha! After this hysterical laughter, you are left to play again. Drop unnecessary items like the Molotov Cocktails and Hookshot for now, and take the Handgun Bullets from the table. There is a scale on the 2nd floor balcony, asking you to balance good and evil, remember the scale. Save if you like, then head through the double doors to the right of the typewriter. --------------- Dining Room --------------- Kill the 2 zombies, be careful, as they are better armored than the zombie passengers on the train. Then get the Handgun ammo off the table, and go through the door next to the dead body. --------------- Steam Hall --------------- Enter the other door in this hall. --------------- Shotgun Room --------------- Waste the 2 zombies, and get the shotgun, the black statue, and the gas tank. Let Billy equip the Shotgun, as it is the "man's weapon". Then dump Rebecca's handgun. Replacing it with Billy's. New Weapon! Shotgun Ammo: Shotgun Ammo in units of 7 The all time Resident Evil weapon is finally in your hands. It fires 12 gauge shells. Whenever zombies come out, you should aim upwards, and shoot when they are close enough to you, then you may be able to decapitate them. Use this weapon for fire support, that is when Rebecca's handgun is not enough, use it to cover her. Head back to the hall. Don't climb up, as there are 6 zombies guarding only 2 green herbs. So it is not worthwhile to bother. --------------- Hall --------------- Drop the Gas Tank, and place the Black Statue onto the scales. This is part of a long puzzle, to balance good and evil. Then head through the single door on the 2nd floor balcony that is unlocked. --------------- Handle Room --------------- Grab the file on the table, as it holds an important solution to a puzzle later. New File! Notice to all Staff (This document is very old. Much of the writing is illegible). Regular meetings of the Vaccine Research and Infectious Agents teams will be held. Both meetings are Security Level 5 and will be held in the following locations: 1F W Operations Control Room 2F SE Meeting Room The entry code shall be "8:15" Thank you. Explanation: To unlock the doors with a face of the clock on it, a clock must be set to the position of 8:15. Take the Crank Handle, a stream of crows burst in through the windows!!! Get out of there quick! New Enemy! Crow Strength: Handgun 1 shot Shotgun: 1 shot and group kill Crows are just crows, and the T-virus has caused them to attack humans. But however, if you do not give them a sign that you are a threat, they'll just leave you alone. --------------- Hall --------------- Get through the double doors on the second floor. --------------- Conference Room --------------- Take the file on one of the desks, and the Shotgun Shells for Billy. Then head through the only unlocked single door. New File! Regulations for Trainees Training facility Mission This Training facility will raise a new generation of model employees to serve the future of Umbrella Corp. Applying the strictest and most rigorous training standards, this facility will, without regard for gender, race or creed, produce only the best candidates to be the global future leaders of Umbrella Corporation. We look forward to the development of your leadership qualities. Training facility Guidelines Discipline. Obedience. Unity. (1) These three words are the basic principles which govern Umbrella Corporation employees, and are to be considered the Law of this facility. Keep these words in mind at all times. (2) Devote yourselves to your training and bring honor to yourselves and the corporation. James Marcus Director, Umbrella Corporation Management Training facility. Explanations: (1) Later, there is a device in the Observatory of the facility, that requires the insertion of 3 tablets with the basic principles of Umbrella. (2) Ironic, isn't it? Marcus set these fine rules for his employees to follow, and yet he seemed to care for his own interests and broke his own rules. In the future, you will witness many Umbrella researchers who disobey these rules, and disaster results. They include Albert Wesker (RE), William Birkin (RE2) and Alfred Ashford (RE:CV), Now I am not surprised why Spencer had to use his special force team led by Hunk to retrieve different virus samples, as they tend to keep it for themselves. --------------- Corridor 1 --------------- Kill the 2 zombies here, and enter the double doors. --------------- Elevator Room --------------- There is a Training Facility map, as well as Microfilm A. Take them, then head to the circular device by the lift and insert the Crank Handle. Then send Rebecca onto the lift and let Billy use the handle. Rebecca will go up into the Clock Room. ---------------------- Clock Room as Rebecca ---------------------- 2 new enemies Plague Crawlers, drop from the ceiling. Head to the steps, and fire your handgun from there, as they cannot attack you there. When they are dead, grab the Handgun Ammo and remember the clock device. New Enemy! Plague Crawler Strength: Handgun: 6-8 shots Shotgun: 3 shots Grenade Launcher with Grenades: 1-3 Rounds Grenade Launcher with Acid Grenades: 1-2 Rounds Grenade Launcher with Napalm Grenades: 1 Round These oversized cockroaches are some new progenitor virus BOW rejects by Marcus. They have increased aggressiveness, as they try to pin you down, or grab you, but they are rather stupid, so they are rejected as BOW. I agree too, this is because Plague Crawlers seemed to have difficulties in coming after you when you stand on stairs, so whenever there are stairs, you can just stand on them and shoot them dead with the Handgun. Exit through the single door. ---------------------------- Fountain Balcony as Rebecca ---------------------------- Kill the crows with your Handgun, take and combine the Green and Red Herbs as you wish, and head through the other door. ----------------- Attic as Rebecca ----------------- Go down the stairs, and through the furthermost door. You'll be back in the hall. Switch to Billy. ----------------------- Elevator Room as Billy ----------------------- Head back to the hall and rejoin Rebecca, decapitating the zombie on the way. --------------- Hall --------------- Head back to the attic. --------------- Attic --------------- Head through the door Rebecca's just passed. --------------- Art Room --------------- There are 2 Plague Crawlers here. Kill them with the shotgun, and take the shotgun ammo, the White Statue, and most importantly, the Grenade Launcher. New Weapon! Grenade Launcher Ammo: Grenades, Acid Grenades and Napalm Grenades in units of 6 Usually the "Woman's Weapon" most other Resident Evil games, the Grenade Launcher is back for more fun for all. The Grenades are to be used against any common heavily armored enemies and bosses. The Acid Grenades are effective against Hunters. The Napalm Grenades are effective against leech enemies, and other creepy crawlies, so they should be saved exclusive for the Humanoid Leeches. Otherwise, use the Grenades and Acid Grenades as merrily as you wish. Head back to the attic. Let Billy Equip the Grenade Launcher. --------------- Attic --------------- Split the team up, and use Billy to operate the winding chain, and send Rebecca down the ladder, and pick up the revealed Facility Key, which is the Fire Key. Suddenly, a giant centipede crashes out and grabs Rebecca! "Help! Billy!" Boss Battle! Giant Centipede Strength: Combined usage of Grenade Launcher with Grenades and Shotgun: 6 rounds and 5 - 7 shots. This centipede has way too much HP to be the 2nd boss of the game. However, it only scuttles around the room, pausing every few moments to hurt Rebecca. At that time, open fire on it. Just don't let the Centipede crash into Billy, and he will not get hurt. After enough shots, the centipede will die, freeing Rebecca. Drop the Grenade Launcher to free inventory room. With the newly found Fire Key, head back to the Dining Room. --------------- Dining Room --------------- Kill the zombies, and unlock the red door with the fire key. Inside is the kitchen. --------------- Kitchen --------------- Take the empty bottles, and the lighter fluid. Combine the fluid with Billy's lighter. Then return to the hall, combining the bottle with the Gas Tank to make more Molotov cocktails. Place the white statue on the scales. Then head to the conference room. --------------- Conference Room --------------- Return to Corridor 1. --------------- Corridor 1 --------------- Return to the Elevator Room. --------------- Elevator Room --------------- Go to the candle, and light it up. The adjacent door will be unlocked. Enter the door. --------------- Book Storage --------------- Kill the 2 zombies, take the Grenades if you wish and climb up the ledge. Then have Billy push the large bookshelf to the left, revealing a Book of Good. Open it to reveal the Angel Wings. Then return to the Corridor 1. --------------- Corridor 1 --------------- Unlock the red door in this corridor. Enter. ---------------- Deer Trophy Room ---------------- There is Handgun Ammo and Shotgun Ammo in this room. Then push the piano stool in front of the deer trophy. Turn on the light, and climb up on the stools, and take the iron needle. There is an Assistant Director's diary near the Shotgun ammo. New File! Assistant Director's Diary September 2nd A useless bunch of trainees, as always. Where does headquarters find these idiots? We did get a couple of decent ones, though, so can't complain I guess. William and Albert. (1) They might have a future. September 25th Scholar Will. Practical Al. They really are opposites. And they're always competitive in everything they do. There's something ruthless and cruel about them both... October 7th Got a sudden call from the Director. It was to tell me to encourage a rivalry between those two! It's the first time since this Training facility was built that Director Marcus has ever shown interest in anything other than his research. Well, whatever. Orders are orders. I'm going to have them tearing at each other's throats. (2) Explanations: (1) They are actually William Birkin and Albert Wesker. (2) Instead of being bitter rivals between each other, they actually became friends, and did a lot of traitorous things against Umbrella in the future. This shows that they are very disobedient, undisciplined and disunited, contrary to the three principles of Umbrella. How ironic. Return to the Hall. --------------- Hall --------------- Remove the white statue from the scales; combine it with the Angel Wings to create the Statue of Good. Then place it on the scales. Then go all the way back to the clock room. --------------- Clock Room --------------- Place the Iron needle onto the clock and a simple will starts. Puzzle Time! Clock Puzzle As stated in the file before, turn the hands of the clock to the 8:15 position. Then the door on the second floor balcony of the Hall and a door in the first floor west wing will be unlocked. Head back to the hall. --------------- Hall --------------- Enter the newly unlocked room. --------------- Meeting Room --------------- Kill the 4 zombies quickly before they surround you. It is best to send only one character in at a time. Then take the shotgun ammo, Microfilm B as well as a Verse of Poetry on the table. New File! A Verse of Poetry The Moon bows to the Earth The Earth swears loyalty to the Sun And the great Law of the Sun Governs all thing. This itself is the keystone, The pointer to glory All our hands cannot open the door to the heaven. Explanation: I have no idea what this verse is for. There is not a single puzzle in the game to do with the Sun, Earth and Moon. If anyone knows what this file is for, please tell me. (Some people say that it has got to be the escape route by the means of the door on the other side of the observatory. After all, you see the sun, moon and stars through your telescope.) Head back to the hall, and go through the door at the west side. --------------- West Wing Hall --------------- Just go along the corridor to the door at the other end. ------------------------- Operations Control Room ------------------------- Kill the 2 zombies, and take the Handgun ammo. Then insert the 2 microfilms you found into the projector. An image with the top view of the conference room and the desks with their corresponding numbers are shown. A MO Disc pops out, take it. New File! Microfilm Image An image resulting from overlaying microfilms A and B. Numbers appear on the seats of the conference room. Explanation: Each desk is responsible for entering one number of a code in the conference room. For example, pressing the switch on the desk marked 0 results in the code 0 being input. With his file, go all the way back to the conference room, ignoring the Humanoid leech on the way. --------------- Conference Room --------------- Insert the MO Disc into the slot on the speaker's stand. Then the machine will require a 2 digit code to be input. This is totally randomized. You will notice that "There is no input device nearby." Besides, when a code is input, it becomes active for a few seconds before it is turned off, and is impossible for one character to reach the second input device before the first one is turned off. Therefore, it is necessary for Rebecca and Billy to be in front of each input device and to enter the codes within a second of each other. Now, split the team up, and move each character in front of the desks which correspond to the digit of the codes from the file, and press the switch in turn. Then a lock is released. The knights will move their swords away from the double doors and they can be entered. Go through the double doors in this room. --------------- Corridor 2 --------------- Kill the zombies and go through the other set of double doors. --------------- Chess Study --------------- There is a large chess set on the floor. There are also some Napalm Grenades and Handgun Ammo. Go over to the desk, and examine the chess arrangements. It seems that we have another puzzle in our hands. Puzzle Time! Chess Puzzle From the chessboard on the desk, we know that the White King must be pushed so that it lands on the H7 square. For those people who don't play chess, it is the space below the White Rook's. Afterwards, the chessboard will slide open, revealing a Book of Evil. Open it for the Black Wing. There is also an extract of Marcus's Diary. New File! Marcus's Diary 1 December 4th We finally did it... the new virus! We have called it the "Progenitor". (1) I want to carry it back and start detailed investigations immediately. March 23rd Spencer says he's going to start a company. Well, I don't care, as long as I can continue my research into "Progenitor". He can do what he likes... August 19th Spencer keeps asking me to be the director of his new training facility. Maybe it's because of the business, but he's becoming incredibly pushy. But, maybe I can turn this to my advantage. (2) I need a special facility to properly explore all this virus's secrets. A place where no one will get in the way... November 30th Damn that Spencer... He came to complain to me again today. He thinks of "Progenitor" as nothing more than a money-spinning tool. Fool! But if his influence continues to grow, it can only be bad for my research. If I'm to properly develop "Progenitor", I must strengthen my own position too. (3) September 19th At last... I've discovered a way to build a new virus type with "Progenitor" as a base. Mixing it with leech DNA was the breakthrough I needed... (4) I call this new virus "t", for tyrant. October 23rd It's no good! I can't hope for real progress experimenting on mere rodents. Only humans can be a proper mammalian subject for the experiments. (5) Otherwise, I'll never make any real progress... November 15th Someone seems to suspect something about my experiments... ...but, perhaps it's just my imagination. Well, if anyone does get too close, they may find themselves unexpectedly "assisting" in my research! January 13th At last, they are ready. My wonderful leeches! Those of low intelligence, they will never have the privilege of tasting this sense of joy and satisfaction! Now, finally, I can move against Spencer. Soon I will control everything... (6) January 31st The devices I set to protect my work have been disturbed. It appears someone came looking for "t" and the leeches. Fool. No doubt the work of Spencer's group. February 11th Today, I again found evidence of tampering around the entrance to the labs. If that is what they're after. I must find a suitable way to deal with them. Perhaps I should have William and Albert smoke out the pests... (7) Those two are the only ones I trust. Apart from my beloved leeches, of course. But Spencer... It wouldn't end there, would it? (8) I will announce "t" at the next directors meeting, and collect my just rewards... Explanations: (1) The Progenitor Virus is one of the virus experimented on Lisa and Jessica Trevor. (2) Even the early people of Umbrella seemed to care for their own interests, in contrary to every one else's. (3) The reason for disunity inside Umbrella: When there is a difference in opinion between two senior researchers, and one of the researcher's works are rejected, that researcher would still be stubborn and try to continue his research underground. Rivalries arise. (4) The T-Virus was actually invented by Dr. Marcus, instead of William Birkin. (5) Although the majority of Umbrella is against experimenting on humans, some crazed senior researchers resort to extreme measures to perfect their viruses. Unfortunately, only maniacs and traitors have any success in Umbrella, and that is why many people perceive Umbrella as an "evil organization". In my opinion, Umbrella is just "misunderstood". (6) One of the earliest examples of infighting in Umbrella Corporation, I guess. This is really unacceptable, as Marcus set the guidelines "Discipline, Obedience, Unity" for his trainees, and yet he went the whole lot breaking his own rules. (7) It seemed that Dr. Marcus trusted William Birkin and Albert Wesker with his life in the old days, and unfortunately, he will pay dearly for that in the future. (8) Spencer, eventually would have Marcus assassinated. In my opinion, to prevent anymore employees, high and low, from doing unauthorized activities behind the back of Spencer, Spencer should implement Stalin's Purges onto Umbrella, killing and firing those personnel who do not completely agree with him. After reading this highly informative and interesting diary, head back out to the corridor. --------------- Corridor 2 --------------- Go through the door in the far end. --------------- Bedroom --------------- Kill the two zombies, and take the Green Chemical from the tank, as well as the First Aid Spray and the Blue Herbs if you wish. There are some 1st Investigator Unit Notes on the bed as well. You will need it if you want to know how to mix chemicals. New File! 1st Investigator Unit Notes We are searching the facilities, and it looks like a lot of the chemicals survived. Fortunately, the storage tanks are still all full. We have just started and there is still a lot we don't know, but it appears that the chemicals can be mixed to produce new substances. (1) The chemicals are scattered all about, not because of the accident, more a result of plain mismanagement. When we re-open the facilities, we will have to develop a system for dealing with these chemicals. (Something is scrawled on the back of the note). Red + Blue = Sulfuric Acid (2) Green + Red = Stripping Agent (3) (1) The chemicals found in tanks all around the place can be mixed with Rebecca's Mixing Set to produce new chemicals. (2) Mixing Blue and Red Chemicals produces Sulfuric Acid. Which will be mixed with the industrial water later to make the Battery Fluid of the Hi-Power Battery. (3) Mixing Green and Red Chemicals produces a Stripping Agent, which can be used to open a capsule that contains a Blue Leech Charm later. Return to the hall. --------------- Hall --------------- Go to the attic and drop the Napalm Rounds. At the same time, kill the Plague Crawlers with your Handgun the safe way, by standing behind the gap where the stairs are found. They are so stupid that they cannot even do anything! Then return here, and remove the black statue from the scales, then combine it with the Black Wing to create the statue of evil. Then place it on the scales to balance good and evil. The portrait of Dr. James Marcus will slide aside, revealing some stairs. You are now in the facility basement. *****FACILITY BASEMENT***** --------------- B1 Corridor --------------- "There is still evil in this place..." There are 3 Giant Spiders here, kill them or ignore them, then go through the door on the far end. New Enemy! Giant Spider Strength: Handgun, 6-10 shots, abdomen may burst. Shotgun: 2-3 shots Spiders are arachnids that have been enhanced by the T-virus. They charge and pin you down, or spit poison which may cause poisoning. If you shoot them with the handgun, the spiders may die earlier if their abdomen bursts. But beware, the green goo may poison you, and baby spiders may come out. So leave the room, and the mess will be automatically gone. Don't worry, they are the only poisonous enemies of this game, and they can only be seen in 2 places. ---------------- Observation Room ---------------- There is a Facility Basement Map, a Green Herb, a Blue Herb and some Ink Ribbons on the table. There is a Correctional Institute Inmates List on the table. New File! Correctional Institute Inmates List Matthews, K. Deceased. Disposal Complete. Bidge, D. Deceased. Disposal Complete. Keith, W. (Transported individuals to be deleted from the records). Explanation: This tells us how cruel the way Umbrella treats its prisoners. Save if you wish, and go through the door. ---------------- Torture Room ---------------- Go to the air vent, and give Rebecca a boost. She will be in the voltage room. ------------------------ Voltage Room as Rebecca ------------------------ After the brief look at the torture instruments, explore the room for a file and a power generator. New File! About the Power Regulator Due to the recent lightning strike, the power regulator continues to be inoperative. I wouldn't really matter about the power, except for the fact that the boiler room equipment is on the same grid. The equipment is so run down. I'll probably have to have it fixed up all the time. If you wish to exit rapidly set the indicator to 70. Check first though that everything is connected to the chain. Explanation: Solving the power regulator puzzle will stop the gush of steam in the steam hall. The power is to be set to 70 volts. With this information, head to the regulator. Puzzle Time! Power Puzzle Pushing the switch upwards increases the voltage, while pushing downwards decreases the voltage. The voltage input for the 5 switches are as follows: Switch 1: +/- 30V Switch 2: +/- 20V Switch 3: +/- 40V Switch 4: +/- 10V Switch 5: +/- 50V Since 30+20+10-40+50=70, push all switches upwards except 3. The previously unlocked door in the B1 corridor will unlock, and the steam in the steam hall will stop gushing out. However, someone is watching Rebecca on the CCTV camera. It's the messiah guy. He is rather annoyed at her presence, so he releases a new gorilla type creature called the Eliminator after Rebecca. "You are wasting your time. I have already claimed this place for myself, which means you are trespassing, and I am very territorial! Ha ha ha ha!" Rebecca tried to struggle with the Eliminator, but ends up falling through the floor! Meanwhile, in the Birkin Lab, William Birkin has found out the identity of the crazy messiah guy. "It just doesn't make sense. Do you honestly believe this to be the identity of that crazy young man? If, somehow this is true, Umbrella will be finished." Wesker says that if the conspiracy against Dr. Marcus is revealed, Mr. Spencer's career, as well as William and Albert's will be over. "If the old conspiracy against Dr. Marcus has been revealed, Mr. Spencer's career will be over. Not to mention ours too. So, the time has come at last." "What are you planning to do?" William Birkin asks in shock. So he plans to leave Umbrella, and join forces with an opposing corporation. "I will simply say goodbye to Umbrella. The powerful weapon utilizing the T-Virus has almost been completed, and the only remaining task is to acquire combat data," Wesker explains. "You can't be serious. I refuse to abandon my work. I have finished the research on the T-Virus, and I need a little more time to complete my work on the more powerful G-Virus." "Do as you wish. I will follow my initial plans to lure the S.T.A.R.S. members into the mansion. Their superior combat training will make them perfect test subjects," Albert Wesker asks as he enters the lift. Birkin made no efforts to stop him, instead, he will go to operate the self destruct system of the Training Facility to reduce everything to rubble. "Fine. In the meantime, something must be done about that madman. As I recall, your RC is equipped with a self-destruct device in the basement. I will find it, set it off, and annihilate the place to nothing more than a massive rubble." Then, the lift door closes, and Albert Wesker has left the Birkin Lab. After this FMV, Rebecca would be trying to hold on to a metal bar, over another pit! "Oh, can't hold on! Help! Billy!" ---------------------- Torture Room as Billy ---------------------- You hear the girl? Damsel in distress! Head back to the B1 Corridor, ignoring the Eliminator on the way. New Enemy! Eliminator Ape Strength: Shotgun: 2-4 Shots This is another Progenitor Virus BOW, formed by injecting the virus into a baboon. They have excellent hearing ability and increased fertility, but they are blind, so they are rejected as a BOW. However, they can hurt Billy bad by jumping around and scratching him, so it is best to use something heavy to kill them. --------------------- B1 Corridor as Billy --------------------- Go through the door marked Voltage Room. -------------------- B1 Bedroom as Billy -------------------- Kill the standing zombie, ignore the one pretending to be dead, and take the handgun ammo and shotgun ammo. Then return to the hall. ---------------- Hall as Billy ---------------- Enter the dining room. --------------------- Dining Room as Billy --------------------- Kill the zombie that just woke up, and go through the door by him. ------------------- Steam Hall as Billy ------------------- Turn to Billy's left, and through the now cleared walkway, and go through the door under the stairs. ------------------------------ Arrogant Animal Room as Billy ------------------------------ Eliminate the 3 Eliminators, and get the Handgun Ammo. Then go through the door with the rounder top. (It is possible to kill all 3 in only 4 shots, thanks to the group damage effect!) ---------------- B2F Save Room ---------------- After Billy takes Rebecca hand and pulls her out of the pit, Rebecca will receive a call form Enrico, asking her if she has found Billy yet. Rebecca lied, and said she had not. She then asked Billy why he ended up like this. Then Billy had a flashback, apparently, he was one of the 4 survivors of a Marine team sent to intervene in a civil war. "It was around this time last year. Our unit was ordered to Africa to intervene in a civil war. Our mission was to raid a hideout of some guerilla forces located deep inside the jungle. The hideout was far away from our entry point." You see several of Billy Coen's teammates getting shot or dying of heat stroke. "Some died from the heat, others were killed by the enemy. In the end, only four of us, survived." You see Billy's team leaving the jungle to a clearing with a small village." However, their team was acting based on wrong information, and their leader decided to attack an innocent village, and they killed 23 people. "Oh wait, there was no guerilla hideout. The idiots in charge had us operating based on wrong information. But we just can't go home empty-handed. Oh no. Our leader, ordered us to attack an innocent village." However, Billy tried to stop them, but in the end, his teammates repaid him by saying that he did it. You see the guns blazing in the village, and every villager is flushed out to the open. Billy Coen's Captain says, "Get rid of them! Kill them all!" Billy responds. "Please sir, cease fire immediately." His captain knocks Billy onto the ground. "Shut up! Do it!" His teammates start spraying the villagers with bullets, massacring them all. Billy cries, "No, wait, stop!" The camera then sweeps into the Captain's eye and you see his blue pupils. You see the basement of the Training Facility again. "So, did you execute those innocent villagers?" Rebecca asks. "No, it doesn't matter anymore. Besides, you said you wouldn't judge me." "I'm not judging you. But it does matter! Look, all of my people thought you killed all those MPs in the van. It was those zombie dogs right? When they attacked, you were able to escape. Isn't that right?" Rebecca asks. "Look, you get it. I only have 2 choices, to either report to the marines and serve out my sentence, or keep running away as long as I can. That's all." Billy ends the conservation, and you are left to play. After this FMV, you left to play again. Save if you want to, and head out. --------------------- Arrogant Animal Room --------------------- I called this room the arrogant animal room, mainly because the inscriptions on the animal statues involved showing off their strong points. Now, head to the downed shutter, there is an inscription. "Six souls, imprisoned within the chains of death. Rekindle the flames of life from the spirits of the weak!" There are 6 statues each, each with an arrogant inscription of the animal. Puzzle Time! 6 Arrogant Animals To open the shutter, Billy has to light the 6 animal statues' bowls in the order from the weakest to the strongest. An animal is considered to be stronger if they claim to have something that can outwit the animal before them. Light them in this order: Deer, Wolf, Unicorn, Bear, Snake, Eagle. Then the shutter will open, revealing 2 doors. Enter the door in the far end first. ---------------- B2 Bunkroom ---------------- Ignore the zombies, and get the Management Trainee's diary, then get out quick! New File! Management Trainee's Diary What is it that Director Marcus is researching all the time? And what's with his weird interest in leeches? Interest...? Seems more like love at times... Rumor has it that there's something dangerous about those leeches. It is true that when Dennis just touched one he got ill with a fever. (1) Again today... There were those horrible moans. Beyond that door. "Let sleeping dogs..." No way I'l go near them,. (2) Even if the Director tells me, I no want to end up like Dennis. That poor bastard. Scratching and scratching. Makes me itch jost watching him. Must maybe go IF can but hwo Dennis gone. I go Hungry... Help Mom. Explanations: (1) Dr. Marcus's leeches are T-virus enhanced. He has developed some love for his leeches. I wonder why... (2) The management trainee was infected by the T-virus since this point. Head through the other door in the corridor. ---------------- B2 Bedroom ---------------- Take the Unity Tablet, and leave, and take the empty bottle if you have room. --------------------- Arrogant Animal Room --------------------- Go through the door with the bars on it. ---------------- B3 Corridor ---------------- Split the team up, and have Rebecca go through the double doors, avoiding the spiders. Then switch to Billy, and go through the single door. ---------------- Waterfall Room ---------------- Billy will be in the waterfall room. It seems that 2 Plague Crawlers are busy having a tasty little snack. In fact they are eating their own kind! Gross! Get the locker key and join Rebecca in the testing room. ---------------- Testing Room ---------------- This is the testing room for Umbrella's Bio Organic Weapons. First, go up the platform and collect the Handgun and Shotgun ammo, then use the locker key on the locker, to reveal a briefcase. Open it by inputting the code 385. Then the handgun parts will be revealed. Combine them with the handgun to create a custom handgun. It is more powerful as it can aim at the zombies' weak spots more easily, and can decapitate the zombies. Then split the team up, and have Rebecca in front of the control panel, and Billy in the testing area. First, press the Center switch as Rebecca. Then move Billy to the left until he reaches another barrier. Then switch to Rebecca and press the center switch again. Then have Billy to press the red switch on the wall. The whole place will be sealed up, and the barriers will all go down. Suddenly, 2 Hunters drop into the room, and attack Billy, yelling "Eragh!" which may mean, "Intruder alert!" New Enemy! MA-121 Hunter (Alpha) Strength: Shotgun: 3 shots The Hunters are one of Umbrella most successful series of BOWs. Made from combining the DNAs of humans and reptiles, the Hunter is very fast indeed, the Hunter Alphas are probably the most handsome Hunters in the series, unlike the other uglier prototypes. They have a newer fury swipe move, where they swipe you 2 times in a row. I suggest you use heavy weapons like the Shotgun and Grenade Launcher. Acid Shells are particularly effective. When Hunters die, they are very funny, they either lie on the ground, trying in vain to get up and crying "Erageh chchchch..." which may mean "I can get up! Somebody please help me!" before lying stiff. Or, they may suddenly hold their chest, and spread their arms out like Moses and cry "Arrgggh!" which may mean "Why is the world so cruel to me?" before falling down! It's so funny! After the Hunters are dead, the Battle Sequence is over, take the Facility Key from one of the holes, which is a Water Key, as well as the Acid Grenades before you leave. Then rejoin Rebecca, and go all the way back to the Training Facility's attic, remember to take the Molotov Cocktails with you. *****TRAINING FACILITY***** ---------------- Attic ---------------- With the Acid Grenades, take the Grenade Launcher and head through the double doors. ---------------- Observatory ---------------- Take the Handgun Ammo, and dump the Grenade Launcher and Acid Grenades here. Then go down the ladder, there is a device with 3 slots, with an inscription, "The three principles of Umbrella Corporation." Place the Unity Tablet onto the slot. You still have to insert two more principles of Umbrella into the remaining slots. Then head to the art room. ---------------- Art Room ---------------- There is nothing here but pieces of art. Unlock the Water Key door. ------------------- Water Key Corridor ------------------- Switch to Billy, and as a solo, turn around the corner. There is a humanoid leech! Burn it and it will struggle helplessly in the flames as if trying to say, "I'm melting!" Ha ha! Serves you right. Then enter the first door you see when you came into the room. Don't regroup yet. ---------------- Video Room ---------------- So, this is where the messiah guy made his threats to Birkin and Wesker. Explore the room to find that the Humanoid leech he showed Birkin and Wesker is still there! Run past him, and get the Vise Handle, then get out quick before he can hurt you. ------------------- Water Key Corridor ------------------- Enter the next door you see. Notice all those leeches on the floor. If your partner is in Attack Mode, I suggest you turn it to idle, or he/she will waste ammo by shooting at the leeches. They can be squished simply by stepping on, anyway. ---------------- Piano Bar ---------------- There is a piano, covered with dust. But it looks playable. Have Rebecca play the piano. It seems that Capcom loves to make fun of Rebecca here, as she cannot play the song right, still! Have Billy play the piano. To your surprise, this ex-marine can actually play the piano much better than the 18 year old university graduate Rebecca Chambers! A wall opens. Have Rebecca enter that hidden wine cellar, and take the magnum ammo on the floor and the Battery off the wall. The wall slides shut and Rebecca is trapped. Then have Billy play the piano again, surprised, aren't you? The wall slides open again, and Rebecca can get out. Then return to the corridor. ------------------- Water Key Corridor ------------------- Go through the door at the end of the corridor. -------------------- Water Key Corridor 2 -------------------- Go through the door on the team's right, don't go through the other door on their left, or a Humanoid Leech will appear when they exit that room. ---------------- Vise Room ---------------- Key all zombies with your Custom Handgun, and then take the Shotgun Ammo. Go to the vise, and insert the vise handle to release the Obedience Tablet. Take the tablet and return to the Observatory. ---------------- Observatory ---------------- Drop the magnum ammo, and put the Obedience Tablet into the device. Return to the hall. ---------------- Hall ---------------- Go through the double doors previously guarded by Knights. Take the Hookshot with you. ------------------------------ Outside the Training Facility ------------------------------ Insert the battery onto the device next to the lift shaft, and then send the lift down. Push the crate until it is in front of the pillar with a shining item on top. Then climb on the crate and take the Discipline Tablet. Then return to the Observatory. ---------------- Observatory ---------------- Insert the Discipline Tablet into the device, and a FMV plays when the entire observatory shakes! Switch to Disc 2. Then the other set of double doors will unlock. Take all the items you left on the ground with you, and head through. You are now in the laboratory area. "You're entering an insane world..." *****LABORATORY***** ---------------- Outside Church ---------------- A typical scene of a horror movie, eh? A church, with bats flying about in the sky. If there are still items left in the observatory, drop your items and head back there to get them. Then move across the bridge. Move Rebecca into the pavilion, and place her on the cracked tile inside. The lock on the church's door will be unlocked. Send Billy inside, taking the Hookshot, Grenade Launcher with Acid Grenades, Napalm Grenades and shotgun ammo in his inventory. ---------------- Church ---------------- So, some of the seats of the church look rather old, broken and worn down. Everything seems to be OK. Or is it? Go through the other door. ---------------- Church Save Room ---------------- Take the Napalm Grenades, the Shotgun Ammo. Save with the typewriter if you wish. Then exit. You are in for a surprise, Billy! ---------------- Church ---------------- Billy steps out, suddenly, a bat swoops out of nowhere! It's time for our 3rd... Boss Battle! Giant Bat Strength: Grenade Launcher with Acid Grenades: 5 rounds Grenade Launcher with Napalm Grenades: 5 rounds The giant bat is the 2nd aerial boss of the game after Alexia of Code Veronica; this bat swoops down and scratches Billy, and can grab him and dangle him in the air for a while. However, just use the acid Grenades and aim up, as acid is effective against furry creatures. The Napalm Grenades are just as effective, but you will be better off saving it for the leeches. Hit him twice, and tiny bats will come to his aid, ignore them and continue blasting. After wards, the bat will fall onto the ground, looking very exhausted before sleeping. After the battle, attempt to exit, and a hole in the ceiling will be spotted. Use the hookshot here. ---------------- Church roof ---------------- There is nothing here, apart from the sight of the dark, cloudy sky and a ladder. Climb down the ladder. ---------------- Outside Church ---------------- There is a breaker switch, push it down. You will see the elevator powering on. Go through the gate. Regroup, and retrieve all the items you dropped on the ground, and go down the elevator. ---------------- Lab Entryway ---------------- Drop all unnecessary items, as this room is the Lab's "Item Box" Then head through the door. (Drop the Magnum Bullets, for instance.) ---------------- Reference Room ---------------- Save if you wish, and as Rebecca, hookshot up the hole in the ceiling. Then leave Billy in Attack Stance, and pick up the second part of Marcus's Diary on the table. New File! Marcus's Diary 2 (This page has been torn out). Trouble is likely, but I closed my babies up in a special capsule. But it won't be safe if I hold it on to myself. I'll hide it in that place. "To hide a leaf, put it in a forest". To open the capsule, the special stripping agent is necessary. No way Spencer's lackeys could figure out how to make it... Explanation: To open the capsule which contains the blue leech charm, Rebecca has to mix Green and Red Chemicals to make the stripping agent. ------------------------------ Leech Storage Room as Rebecca ------------------------------ Take the file on the chair, and then turn around the corner. New File! Laboratory Manager's Diary Today, under Director Marcus' orders, I changed the platform entry code. Later, I asked him what the source of the entry code was. He told me it was based on something significant in his children's growth. But, the director's a loner; he isn't married, and he sure doesn't have any children... What did he mean? Explanation: The combination lock in the Laboratory entry way has its code based on the growth of Marcus' leeches. Surprise, there is a Humanoid Leech here! Run past him, and examine the storage. Press the button, and take the leech capsule. Then exit, taking the Laboratory Map with you. Get out of here, quick! ------------------------------------ Upper Laboratory Hallway as Rebecca ------------------------------------ Press the switch and oh no! A humanoid leech, but he is in the lower hallway. Switch to Billy. ------------------------ Reference Room as Billy ------------------------ Return to the hallway. ---------------------------- Laboratory Entryway as Billy ---------------------------- Quickly kill the leech zombie, and stay where you are, then switch to Rebecca. ----------------------------------- Upper Laboratory Hallway as Rebecca ----------------------------------- Go through the 2nd door to the right. ------------------------ Machine Room as Rebecca ------------------------ Drop the hookshot, and save if you wish. Then return to the Upper Laboratory Hallway and enter the door on the other side. ---------------------- Detox Room as Rebecca ---------------------- There is a zombie pretending to be dead, kill him on the ground. Then take the shotgun ammo, and the Leech Growth Records on a chair. New File! Leech Growth Records February 3rd, 1978 Administrated "t" into 4 leeches. (1) Their will to survive leads them first to parasitism and predation. Then they breed and multiply. Such a single-minded biology makes them attractive candidates for bio-weapons research. Afterwards, no major changes observed. February 10th, 1978 7 days since administration of "t". Rapid growth to double former size, signs of transformation emerging. Spawning successful. They double their numbers in one hour (2) , but their ravenous appetites lead them to cannibalism. Hastened to increase food supply, but lost 2. (3) March 7th, 1978 Provided them with live feed, but lost half when the life food fought back. However, the leeches are learning from experience, and are beginning to exhibit group behavior. They are also ceasing cannibalism. Their evolution is exceeding expectations. April 22nd, 1978 The leeches no longer exhibit individual behavior, even when not feeding, they move as a collective. They consume everything I offer with remarkable efficiency. April 30th, 1978 An employee has stumbled onto my experiments. Can a human be a food source? (5) How will the leeches respond? June 3rd, 1978 A day worthy of commemoration. Today began to mimic me! (6) Surely they recognize their father... Wonderful children. No one will take you away... Explanations: (1) As the code was based on Marcus' leeches' growth, we know the first digit is 4. (2) Second digit= 4x2= 8 (3) Third digit= 8-2 = 6 (4) Fourth digit= 6/2 = 3. Therefore the combination is 4863. (5) Another typical behavior of Umbrella's senior researchers. They use employees as guinea pigs. This practice is hated by the lower levels, but unfortunately almost all of the high level researchers are maniacs and like to use this technique. This is why Umbrella is regarded as evil. (6) This explains the humanoid leeches. The leeches became very loyal to Dr. James Marcus and started to combine together to look like him. Dr. Marcus is just as obsessive as Alexia Ashford. Instead of being obsessed with ants, though, he is obsessed with leeches. Even sicker. There is also a Red Tank in the room next to the detox device. Take some Red Chemical and mix it with the Green Chemical you have obtained from the mansion to make the stripping agent. Use the stripping agent to open the capsule, revealing a Blue Leech Charm. Then head through the double doors. ------------------------- Operating Room as Rebecca ------------------------- Kill the zombies, and use the lift to send the shotgun ammo and Blue leech charm down to Billy. Send him the first aid spray if he was badly injured by the humanoid leech. There is also a file in this room. On the floor in plain sight. New File! Investigator's Report Dr. Marcus. Co-founder (1) , with President Spencer, of the Umbrella Corporation. Disappeared 20 years ago. The results of his research have been kept under wraps for all that time. The reason became clear here at the Training Facility run by Dr. Marcus... ...well not here exactly, but underground. When we ventured below, we understood... There we found the evidence of Dr. Marcus' research into the T-virus prototype called "Progenitor". The evidence of years of hideous experimentation that used company employees as guinea pigs. (2) We cannot know how many were forced to become subjects, but based on the evidence, no less than twenty individuals were involved; some of them taken deliberately to keep the corporation's secret safe. Where the Doctor is now I don't know. But considering the recent rapid growth of Umbrella Corporation, I can't imagine that his research is continuing. No... his experiments lives and continues to grow in the dark. Those things, the "fruit" of his research, they fill this facility. (The rest of the notebook pages are missing). Explanations: (1) Dr. Marcus was the co-founder of Umbrella with Lord Spencer. (2) So it shows that Dr. Marcus really experimented on people, and the investigators don't like it. It seems that Umbrella is not that bad. But it is just the people who are at the top who are insane. Switch to Billy. ---------------------- Lab Entryway as Billy ---------------------- Reenter the reference room, and take the Blue Leech Charm and Shotgun Ammo, kill the zombie and head back out. The go to the Blue Marcus Bust door and insert the leech charm. It unlocks. Go through. ----------------------- Marcus' Study as Billy ----------------------- Explore the room to find handgun ammo and an input regulator coil. Then an old photograph will be found. New File! Old Photograph (There's something written on the back of the photograph). To James, To commemorate your graduation, 1939 Explanation: This proves that Dr. Marcus graduated in 1939. This causes Billy to wander who the messiah guy is. "Judging from the age, that guy could be Marcus' son, or grandson." After the short FMV, head through the door --------------------- Statue Room as Billy --------------------- Try to run past the 2 zombies, and get the Green Leech Charm from the statue. Then get all the way back to the Reference Room. ----------------------- Reference Room as Billy ----------------------- Send the Handgun ammo and Green Leech Charm to Rebecca. Switch to her. -------------------------- Operating Room as Rebecca -------------------------- With the charm, insert it into the Green Marcus Bust door. It unlocks Go through. ----------------- Morgue as Rebecca ----------------- Kill the crawling zombie and the zombie pretending to be dead. Then get the sterilizing agent and the handgun ammo. Return to the detox room. --------------------- Detox room as Rebecca --------------------- Insert the Sterilizing agent in the Detox machine to neutralize the toxic gas in the chamber. Head into the chamber. Kill the zombie on the ground and the zombie that has just awaken, get the Breeding Room Key and return to the Upper Laboratory Hallway. ------------------------------------ Upper Laboratory Hallway as Rebecca ------------------------------------ Unlock the previously locked door with your new key. Enter. ------------------------- Breeding Room as Rebecca ------------------------- Move a little bit forward and two Hunters burst out of the cages! Kill them from a distance with your custom handgun and take the BOW report on the floor and the dial in the cage. Return to the Operating Room and send the dial to Billy. Then head to the machine room. New File! BOW Report Research to date has shown that when the Progenitor virus is administered to living organisms, violent cellular changes cause a breakdown in the system. Furthermore, no satisfactory method has been found to control the organisms for use as weapons. Clearly, greater coordination at the cellular level is essential to enable further growth. I conducted a number of experiments in an effort to find a breakthrough. This is my report: Insecta (1) Perhaps because these ancient animals have been genetically stable for millennia, when administered with the progenitor virus they exhibited only explosive, high energy growth and increased aggressiveness. It is extremely difficult to envision using them as BOW. Amphibia (2) Injecting a frog with the virus resulted in an increase in leaping power and abnormal tongue growth. However, no change in mental ability was observed. Furthermore, an abnormal appetite resulted in the test subject randomly attacking all moving objects. Usefulness for BOW is limited. Mammalia (3) The progenitor virus has merged with monkey's cellular DNA, resulting I increased fertility The resulting young exhibited improved aggressiveness and some increased mental capacity. (As a side effect, visual power was lost, but this was offset by an improvement in hearing ability). However, they were unsatisfactory as weapons. It does seem that no progress can be made without making humans the base organism. Explanations: (1) This describes the Plague Crawlers. (2) This describes the Lurker Frogs, which you will meet in the Treatment Plant. (3) This describes the Eliminator Apes. ------------------------ Reference Room as Billy ------------------------ Get the dial, and get back to the entryway. ---------------------- Lab Entryway as Billy ---------------------- Insert the dial in the other locked door. Key in the combination 4863. The door unlocks. Go through. ----------------------- Platform Room as Billy ----------------------- Billy has found a Cable Car, he asks Rebecca to join him as soon as possible. There is a lever in this area. Pull it to move the ladder towards the machine room platform. An output regulator coil will be revealed. Take it and climb up. ---------------- Machine Room ---------------- Before rejoining Rebecca, take the Hookshot, and climb down there again. Then use the Hookshot on the hole you found. Climb up, and you are in the machine room again. Drop the hookshot, as it is obsolete in the game now! Take the Shotgun Ammo, and insert the two regulator coils and the cable car will turn on. Then head through the door and rejoin Rebecca. Move the team down to the Entryway, and have Billy hold the Grenade Launcher and Acid Grenades, if any are left. Take the magnum ammo as Rebecca. To be precise, make Billy's inventory as follows: Shotgun Grenade Launcher loaded with Napalm Grenades Acid Grenades Shotgun Ammo Then return to the platform room. ---------------- Platform Room ---------------- Attempt to enter the cable car, and an Eliminator Ape will try to eliminate Billy, but Billy struggles with it, and was knocked into the pit below! Poor Becky now has to face the cruel world by herself! Suddenly, something sneaks up on Rebecca, something icky, something sticky. It's a Humanoid Leech. The Cable Car suddenly powers down! Oh God! As Rebecca, run past the leech and climb up the ladder. Then go to the control panel and replace the output regulator coil the leeches removed. Then you can enter the cable car. ---------------- Cable Car ---------------- Take the Magnum from the dead body, and start the cable car. You will arrive at the Factory, the same factory Leon and Claire visited in Resident Evil 2. New Weapon! Magnum Ammo: Magnum Ammo in units of 8 The magnum is definitely the most powerful weapon in the game. Like the one in Resident Evil 2, it is in Handgun Style, and holds 8 rounds. As ammo is scarce, you are advised to save it for important boss battles, like the one you are going to face now. *****FACTORY***** ---------------- Platform ---------------- Take the Green Herbs if you were injured by the humanoid leech, otherwise, leave them, as your inventory has been reduced to only 6 slots. Then head through the other unlocked door in this room. ---------------- Warehouse ---------------- "It's dark and silent... But, you can still feel your heartbeat." Looks familiar does it, but please note that the door Rebecca came in with will be blocked by Barrels by the time of Resident Evil 2. Then head through the white door. --------------------- Panel Room Save Room --------------------- Feels like only yesterday or only 2 months later, eh? However, the hatch that Leon and Claire went through is tightly sealed, so you cannot go through. Take the First Aid Spray from the cupboard and the Handgun Ammo from the panel top, the map off the wall. There are also Grenades. Take them if you wish. Then save with the ink ribbon as things are about to get nasty. Get out again. ---------------- Warehouse ---------------- Take the lift down, walk through the narrow platform and through the sliding door. ---------------- Monitor Room ---------------- Go all the way to the end of the walkway, and take the Control Panel Key, which is the Up Key, practically the same one as in Resident Evil 2. Examine the monitor, a giant humanoid being is being suspended in bio-organic fluid. However, Capcom misspelled it as Humaniod! Well, I guess Capcom has to find some proofreaders from now on. The room the capsule in looks like the culture experimentation room in the Birkin Lab in RE2. Attempt to leave and 2 Hunters will come to say hi, just run past them and get out of there. If you were hurt, just use the Green Herbs from the Platform. Then get back to the Panel Room. ---------------- Panel Room ---------------- Insert the Up Key onto the Control Panel on the corner. The Turntable will rise up. Get onto the turntable. ---------------- Warehouse ---------------- On the turntable, examine the yellow control panel for a switch, press it to activate the turntable and it will travel all the way down to the Birkin Lab Entrance. -------------------- Birkin Lab Entrance -------------------- Remember this place in RE2? Go near the elevator by the Security Room, and watch an emotional FMV featuring Enrico and Rebecca. Rebecca is determined to find Billy, and Enrico allows her, and leaves. Rebecca never saw Enrico again. There is an elevator key by the lift. Take it. Apparently, Capcom does not like to overlap locations between games, so the door to the Birkin Lab cannot be opened, so as the security room and the lift Enrico came out of, lazy Capcom! If Rebecca would just open the green shaft door, she would stumble upon a fully functional Birkin lab with the personnel still alive. Anyway, move to the other side of this area, where there is another elevator, insert the key into the button panel and an FMV will occur where the giant humanoid being jumps from the wreckage and confronts Rebecca! Meanwhile, a barrier comes down, now the Birkin Lab is no longer accessible. This barrier will still be in place when Leon and Claire visit the lab later. It is Tyrant, and he is in a bad mood lately, trapped in the capsule! Now he has forced himself out of the capsule in the culture experimentation room to find food! He spreads his arms out wide, and moves his mouth as if to say, "I am so happy that I am out of my capsule prison! Now I will celebrate, by beating the life out of you!" Boss Battle! Tyrant Strength: Magnum: 10-12 shots This Tyrant is actually a reject, but he can still hit Rebecca hard. Fire a Magnum round at him and he will recoil in pain. Don't shoot at that instance, as he is invincible at that time. When he has recovered, continued shooting. This Tyrant attacks by charge slashing. When he readies himself, run perpendicularly to his path, this time to the left. Then you can sometimes dodge his attacks. After 10 shots or so, he will fall on the ground, don't shoot him anymore, as the battle is over. After the battle, the lift will be ready, go inside. ---------------- Lift ---------------- There are 4 buttons. Lv. 1, Lv. 2, Lv. 3, Lv. 4. Lv. 1 leads back to the train wreck. Lv.3 is the level you are on. Go to Lv. 2 first. ---------------- Shaft Walkway ---------------- Take the Magnum and Handgun ammo, and kill the Hunter with your magnum if you wish, and take the green and red herbs if you are in need of a healing item. Then return to the lift. ---------------- Lift ---------------- Head down to Lv. 4. It seems that the messiah guy can see everything from his cameras. He said to Rebecca that she no longer amuses him, and nothing would stop him from getting his revenge. Now, you are at Lv. 4. Exit. You are in the Treatment Plant. *****TREATMENT PLANT***** ---------------- Walkway ---------------- You will see another FMV, where Rebecca sees Billy holding on something in the water, then suddenly, something big, probably a shark, bumps him and sends him washed away in a pipe. "No! Billy!" Stay cool Rebecca, "You must survive in order to expose this nightmare..." Head through the double doors. ---------------- Monitor Room ---------------- Get the Gas Tank and the Handgun Ammo by the typewriter. However, the plant is currently powered down, so we will have to solve a puzzle to supply power to all the facilities of the plant. Puzzle Time! Power up the Plant From the device, we know that power can be supplied up to 2 points away from the point you select. To do this, designate the following 3 points: The point on the 2nd column on the left, and is the 2nd nearest to the bottom. The point on the same column, and is 2nd nearest to the top. The point on the 2nd column to the right, and is 2nd nearest to the bottom. Afterwards, all points will be powered up, and Rebecca can take the elevator down. ---------------- Machinery Hall ---------------- There are 3 worker zombies here. Kill them all! Then take the empty bottle, and combine it with the gas tank for 3 Molotov cocktails. Then head through the door, save the herbs for later. ---------------- L shaped hallway ---------------- Drop the magnum and magnum ammo. Then turn around the corner. A humanoid leech! Incinerate him quick! Don't worry, you have just destroyed the last humanoid leech in the game! Then enter the door on the other end of the hallway. ---------------- Recreation Room ---------------- Kill the worker zombie, and take the Treatment Plant Map. Wow, this plant goes all the way down to B9 level! That really is typical of a secret underground society's facility. Head down the stairs. ---------------- Forklift Area ---------------- Go through the other door, ignoring the herbs for now. ---------------- Box Pool Room ---------------- Go through the other door, and ignore the shotgun ammo for now. ---------------- Short hallway ---------------- Run down the stairs, squishing the leeches on your way. Go through the other door. ---------------- Billy Room ---------------- Well, Billy Coen is alive! He wakes up, and freaks out at the sight of the skeletons lying around! Anyway, with Billy rejoining you, head back to the Box Pool Room. ---------------- Box Pool Room ---------------- In this room, there is a large pit, with a wheel on the other side. In the pool, there are some boxes, 3 wooden boxes and a metal box. Get Billy down to the pit and Rebecca by the controls. It's... Puzzle Time! Complex Box Puzzle To move the boxes so they lean against the wall on the side where the bridge is to be made, follow the steps below (I know it is hard to understand without drawing an ASCII diagram): 1. Climb over the metal box, and push it towards the wall opposite that of the ladder 2. Switch to Rebecca. Rotate the floodgate to the right. 3. As Billy, push the metal box into the wall that is right in front of the ladder. 4. Push the wooden box on Billy's left all the way to the side where the bridge is to be made, that is to the right of the box that is already leaning to the wall. 5. Then push the remaining box so that is right in front of the box you have just pushed into the wall. 6. Switch to Rebecca. Rotate the railing to the left. 7. Change back to Billy. Climb over the box into that space in the wall with the drain, and push the box in front of the remaining gap. 8. Switch to Rebecca. Rotate the railing to the left again. 9. Switch to Billy. Push the remaining box into that gap and climb out of the pit. 10. Now, regroup, and press the fill/drain switch on the panel. The pit fills with water, and the 3 boxes float, creating a bridge. Man, that has got to be the most complicated puzzle ever! Go over the bridge you created, and take the Handle. Then go all the way back to the L shaped hallway. ---------------- L shaped hall ---------------- There will be some new zombies here. Take them all out. Then pick up the Magnum and the magnum ammo if you have left them behind. Then use the handle on the hole in the locked door. Then go through. ----------------- Naked Zombie Room ----------------- There are up to 5 naked zombies in this room! Kill them all before you are surrounded. There is Handgun ammo by a corner. Then as Rebecca, climb up the ladder. ---------------- Balcony ---------------- Avoid the zombie, get the Investigator's Report 2 and the Red Chemical from the tank. Use the green herbs if necessary. Then go down and rejoin Billy. New File! Investigator's Report 2 We should have finished with this dump long ago. When this all stated, did anyone expect that there would be guns blazing away like this? We weren't told a thing about these creatures attacking us at the briefing... Guess they were a surprise to the head honchos too. The things in the woods just starting to attack people. That had to be planned. Someone deliberately scattered that virus, no doubt about it. But the guards, our fellow soldiers, they must be still around... Well, whatever. Don't have to worry about that anymore. What I've got to worry about is whether to use my last bullet on myself, or on a friend... That's the only decision I have to make. Explanation: It seemed that the 1st Investigator Unit suffered a rather sticky end... ---------------- Naked Zombie Room ---------------- With Billy, head through the other door. ---------------- Hunter Hall ---------------- Blast the Hunters with your shotgun. Because they are so close together, it is always possible to kill them both at once, and you can have the pleasure in hearing them dying in "stereo"! Ha ha! Congrats, you have destroyed the last Hunters in the game! Go through the other door. ------------------- Lodgings Save Room ------------------- Take the Napalm Grenades, and drop the Custom Handgun and the ammo, as it is obsolete now. Then take the healing items around, and the file. Save if you wish, and then head through the other door. New File! About Battery Fluid Battery Fluid The fluid used in batteries is a diluted solution of mixed water and sulfuric acid. Both must be of high purity. When fully charged, battery fluid should have a specific gravity of 1.280+/-0.010 at 20C. Battery Acid Purity Take care that the dilute sulfuric acid solution is of a sufficient purity. Explanation: Later, Rebecca has to mix Battery Fluid for an empty battery. To do this, she has to mix sulfuric acid with industrial water. ----------------- Purification Room ----------------- Go down the steps, squishing the leeches on the ground. Go through the other door. ---------------- Water Walkway ---------------- In this room, walk slowly, as if the 2 characters move too far apart, a Lurker Frog may jump out of the water. Be careful. Head through the other door. ---------------- Gondola Room ---------------- Use your shotgun to decapitate all naked zombies. Then take the file and the ammo, and go down the elevator. New File! Treatment Plant Manager's Diary 5/10 Damn it! Why is normal industrial waste being delivered here? This is an Umbrella Corporation facility. We can't deal with this volume of material. Plus they're sending us contaminated materials that we can't process. What are we supposed to do with it? 7/24 Well, looks like they're closing it down. Not surprising, using it like they did. Had to be done, but... It was pretty sudden. It's not like they cared until now. Anyway, as long as I get out of here, I don't care what they do. Explanation: This treatment plant was shut down because they keep receiving materials that cannot be processed in the plant. ------------------- Tyrant Battle Room ------------------- Walk a little bit, and a claw comes out of the pool! It's Tyrant! He still wants to play! Boss Battle! Tyrant Strength: Magnum: 10-12 shots In this battle, you have Billy to help you. The same fighting style in the factory applies. It is highly recommended that you set Billy into Attack Stance, so he can shoot his shotgun into the Tyrant as well, shortening the battle. When Tyrant is done for the 2nd and final time, push the button to reveal a ladder. Climb up. ---------------- Balcony ---------------- Take the motherboard with Rebecca, and head down. ------------------- Tyrant Battle Room ------------------- Split the 2 up, and send Billy out the door, and Rebecca up the elevator, taking the Grenade Launcher with her. ---------------- Dam Area as Billy ---------------- Wait by the Green Herbs. Switch to Rebecca. ----------------------- Gondola Room as Rebecca ----------------------- Insert the motherboard into the machine, and the gondola will come over, ride the gondola. -------------------------- Dam Lever Room as Rebecca -------------------------- Pull the lever, and the dam area's water level will drop, revealing a bridge for Billy to cross. Then take the Acid Grenades, and load them into the Grenade Launcher. Go through the door. ----------------------------- Blue Chemical Room as Rebecca ----------------------------- Kill the Plague Crawler and get the extra Acid Grenades. Then take some Blue Chemical from the tank, combine it with the Red Chemical to form Sulfuric Acid. Then take the industrial water from the table and combine it with the acid to form Battery Fluid. Then head down the stairs and wait. Switch to Billy. ----------------- Dam Area as Billy ----------------- Climb down onto the platform, and run along the bridge, a Lurker Frog jumps out! New Enemy! Lurker Frog Strength: Shotgun: 2-4 shots These frogs have been enhanced by the Progenitor Virus. They have increased leaping power and abnormal tongue growth. As they have a tremendous appetite, they can grab Billy with their long tongues and eat him whole! However, they were rejected because they are stupid, and can only attack random objects. If you see one of those, I suggest you run way and they should leave you alone. Climb up the ladder on the other side, and the Lurker will lose interest in Billy and return to the water. Then go through the door. ---------------------- Turbine Room as Billy ---------------------- Decapitate all naked zombies, and take the shotgun ammo, and then head through the only other door that he can unlock. ---------------------------- Plague Crawler Storage Room ---------------------------- There is an empty battery on the shelf, give Rebecca a boost and get the battery. Combine it on the spot with the Battery Fluid to make a high power battery. Just then, the capsules break! 2 Plague Crawlers jump out! Surprise! TO kill them the easy way, retreat into the small gap by the stairs, the crawlers cannot do anything, and can be easily taken down by the shotgun. I told you they were stupid! Congrats, the last Plague Crawlers in the game have been defeated! Then regroup and head up the stairs. ------------------- Blue Chemical Room ------------------- Go through the door by the Blue Chemical. ---------------- Billy Room ---------------- You are back in the Billy room, now go all the way back to the forklift room. ---------------- Forklift Room ---------------- If the herbs are still there, take them as you will need it soon. Insert the High Power Battery into the slot on the forklift, and get Rebecca onto the crate. Then switch to Billy and use the forklift. Rebecca will be able to reach the Keycard. Take it, and leave the room, ignoring the Lurker Frog. Go all the way back to the turbine room. ---------------- Turbine Room ---------------- Insert the keycard into the Key Card Reader. Then head through the door. -------------------- Outside Incinerator -------------------- Take the Magnum Bullets and head through the door. Equip Rebecca with the Magnum and Billy with the Grenade Launcher with Acid Grenades (The Napalm Grenades are too precious to be used yet). ---------------- Incinerator ---------------- Now, we find that the incinerator has been turned into a nest for Marcus' leeches. Then the messiah guy welcomes Rebecca and Billy to the "party" from the balcony. "Welcome young ones, so glad for you to join the party. You're the guests of honor, after all, it's your wake! Hahahahaha!" "Who are you?" Billy asks him who he is. Suddenly, messiah guy's face becomes older by 40 years in only a few seconds, and so, the messiah guy is Dr. Marcus himself! "Dr. Marcus?" Billy asks in awe. "NO, you can't be, what's going on?" Rebecca asks. Marcus then tells us his life story. "Heh heh heh! 10 years ago, Spencer had me assassinated!" It was 10 years ago, in 1988, 10 years after he had hidden and disappeared. He was busy performing experiments with his leeches when suddenly, 2 men holding machine guns burst in through the doors. Instead of saying "Hands up!" to Marcus, they opened fire on him, mortally wounding him. Then his 2 students whom he trusted most in his career, Albert Wesker and William Birkin entered the room. The last thing Marcus heard was Wesker saying, "Hello, time to die, doctor." And Birkin said, "I will take over your research from now on. Ha ha ha ha!" Marcus said weakly, 'Wesker... Birkin..." before everything went black and he was dumped into the treatment plant. But then, something wondrous happened, one of his leeches, the queen found his body and entered his body. "It took the T-virus inside of my queen, years to procreate my new life." The queen somehow fused with his cells, giving him new life. And, "I live." The messiah guy says. "Now I can have my revenge on Umbrella, and the world will burn in an inferno of hate! Ha ha ha!" Billy says, "You'll pay for what you have done!" Marcus then says, "We'll see which one of us is going to die! Ha ha ha ha!" Then Marcus spits out several leeches from his mouth, the he transformed into a very hideous monster and jumped down to face the two! Boss Battle! Marcus Leech Guy Strength: Combined usage of the Magnum, Shotgun and Grenade Launcher: Just keep shooting until he falls That's right; just keep shooting until he falls. The Marcus Leech Guy is slow, but powerful. However, rapid fire from the magnum can always make him recoil in pain. Just watch out when he grabs you or your partner in his tentacles. Once he or she is free, quickly use an herb to heal him, otherwise they will die quickly. When Marcus is down, let each of your characters take a shaft key. Explore the room for more Magnum ammo, and then split the team up. Move each character in front of the shaft key slots, and take turns inserting the keys. Then the double doors will unlock, and you will find yourself in the Storage. ---------------- Storage ---------------- Take the shotgun ammo and the healing items. No need to bother about the rest. Then save the game with the typewriter and ink ribbon, and go up through the elevator. ---------------- Loading Dock ---------------- Everything seems to be all right. Suddenly, Wham! "It's the Queen!" Billy says. A female voice says, the self-destruct sequence is activated." Rebecca says, "Who activated the self-destruct system!?" The Queen Leech is gaining speed..."C'mon, can't this thing move any faster?" Billy says. Then the Queen Leech crashes onto the elevator, knocking Rebecca and Billy upwards to the surface. It's time for... Boss Battle! Queen Leech Strength: Combined Usage of the Grenade Launcher and Magnum: Just keep shooting until she falls. To be precise, it is about 8 magnum bullets and 7 Napalm Grenades. The Queen Leech battle is very simple indeed; just keep shooting until she falls. This is the time to make use of your hard-saved Napalm Grenades! If you shot fast enough, Queen Leech may not even be able to do anything before she falls. After this battle, the Queen Leech seems to be struggling to stay away from sunlight. Rebecca, seeing this weakness, tells Billy that they have to open the windows. Billy tells Rebecca, "You work on the windows. I'll use my charm to distract her Majesty!" Before the battle, you will get the last file in the game. New File! Gate Operation Manual To open the heliport in case of emergency, follow the procedures below: Removing the lock: There are four locking mechanisms in the room which must be activated in this order: 1. Southwest side 2. Northwest side 3. Southeast side 4. West side Turn each of the mechanisms' handles to unlock the gate. Explanation: As Rebecca is the person who is responsible for turning the handles, this file is practically useless to Billy. Boss Battle! Distract Queen Leech Strength: Shotgun: Just keep shooting to keep her occupied Gee, I bet Billy is Prince Charming when facing the Queen Leech, as she will divert her attention on Billy just after a few shots. Then all you have to do is to continuously shoot the Queen Leech to keep her away from Rebecca, and healing yourself constantly when you are injured. As simple as that. After Rebecca finished turning the last handle, the roof will open, and the sunlight will blind the Queen Leech. Meanwhile, Rebecca spots a Magnum Revolver on the floor in a corner. She throws it to Billy. Billy takes the Magnum, and aims in a cool way. "Queenie, feast on this!" Then we get to see the bullet moving in super slow motion, before puncturing the Queen Leech's heart, then watch as her body fall into a million pieces, only to be engulfed by the flames coming up from the facility. Billy and Rebecca quickly leave, and soon after that, the entire training facility blows up! After this explosion, Rebecca and Billy rest on the grass, Billy takes his handcuffs off, and Rebecca spots the Spencer Mansion down the hill. She says it's time to say goodbye, and takes Billy's dog tag off. Officially Billy Coen is dead. They salute each other, and Rebecca heads towards the mansion. Billy thanks Rebecca before disappearing into the wild. That's the end. *****EPILOGUE***** Having parted with Billy, Rebecca continued her mission and entered the Spencer Mansion to investigate. Only to meet Chris Redfield, a member of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team while she was trying to help a poisoned Richard Aiken. Chris managed to unmask Albert Wesker as the traitor, and fought the Tyrant Albert Wesker freed. Having blown the Tyrant to bits with a Rocket Launcher thrown down by Brad Vickers, Chris, Rebecca and others left the Spencer Mansion seconds before it self destructed. No more was known of Rebecca Chamber's whereabouts, but she certainly helped cover up Billy Coen's disappearance. As seen in this EX File from the Nintendo 64 version of Resident Evil 2. Billy, of course, may still be living with the animals, or he may have taken a new identity and gone back to civilization. EX File! Rebecca's Report On July 23rd, an MP vehicle was found inside the Arklay Mountains. Corpses of MP members and an unidentified body were found near the vehicle. According to the information from military authorities, the unidentified body was identified as former ensign Billy Koen (1) This is a misprint in the game, it's Coen, not Koen), who was sentenced the death penalty following a court-martial on July 22nd. While Koen was on transfer via Navy MP escort, they must have experienced some kind of accident. The corpses were severely mauled, apparently torn apart by unidentified wild animals. (2) The following day we returned to the location to recover the bodies but they were nowhere to be found. Military authorities have requested that we turn over Koen's body as proof of his death. But due to the circumstances described above, it will be a difficult task to recover the corpse. (3) I am requesting that this case be temporarily closed until further notice. Raccoon City Police Department S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team (Note: Rebecca belongs to the Bravo Team, not Alpha Team) Rebecca Chambers Explanations: (1) Actually, Rebecca Chambers lied here. None of Bravo Team had seen Billy Coen's corpse at the wrecked M.P. vehicle. However, as practically the entire Bravo Team was decimated in the mansion incident, no one was there to prove Rebecca wrong, and she was the sole witness of this scene. Quite a tricky balance here. (2) If you have observed the opening FMV closely, you will notice some slime dripping from the wreckage of the M.P. van, so obviously the "accident" happened near the time when the Ecliptic Express train was attacked by the leeches. Why the leeches attacked the M.P. van? I really don't know, maybe because they are a little bit frenzied in that night. (3) Due to such "problems" submitted by Rebecca Chambers, the military can never recover the body of Billy Coen, and hence they can just forget about Billy's existence while Billy runs free. ---------------------------------------------- 7. Tips and Tricks and Other Interesting Stuff ---------------------------------------------- When shooting zombies, always try to use Billy's handgun instead of Rebecca's, as it is more powerful. Also, try to shoot them as close as possible to maximize damage. Because there are no item boxes in this game, you cannot carry a surplus of herbs with you. So always be ready to ignore the herbs, and only have at most one full healing item in each character's inventory handy. However, you can get plenty of healing items by the end of the game, and you can simply specialize in using one weapon per character. At the same time, you can always let Billy take all the strain when fighting tough enemies. Billy is so tough, that he can take a lot of beating and can still be in the condition of Green Fine. Sometimes, he can take a huge mashing and is still alive and well. It happened once when I played against the Giant Bat. I was literally slaughtered to many pieces by the bat, and yet, after I have beaten the Giant Bat, I was still at Orange Caution! This is absolutely incredible. Therefore, if you want to save herbs, let Billy take all the damage. Sometimes, decapitating zombies with the Shotgun can make a great difference as compared to shooting their bodies. For example, there are those naked zombies in the treatment plant. If you do not decapitate them, they can take as many as 3 shotgun shots to down them instead of just one shot to the head. This game hates backtrackers, if you return from a later part of a game to an earlier part, you will find many new zombies and monsters appearing. So always take everything you need before moving into a newer area! I mean it! For example, once I went back to the Training Facility after the observatory was lowered. Once I went out of the door, there were 3 Eliminator Apes waiting for me there, and I had to fight for my life! And once, a Hunter appeared in the corridor 2, and as a result, it took me by surprise and I lost 2 shotgun shells and my health dropped to Yellow Caution! Remember the laboratory, where there is a hole in the ceiling of the reference room? If you send Billy up there, he cannot mix the Green and Red Chemicals together for the Stripping Agent. Apart from this, the lower level of the laboratory has only the Red Chemical, so Rebecca has to go all the way back to the Training Facility to the bedroom to get the Green Chemical, and risk getting mauled by the newer monsters on the way. In my opinion, people who want to send Billy up there should have Rebecca get the Green Chemical the first time she visits the bedroom, then there is no need to backtrack. Because this game has no item boxes, you should learn where and when certain items will be obsolete. Then you can dump them early, saving up inventory room. The list of obsolete items is displayed below. Knife: Dump it as soon as you get it. Rebecca's Handgun: Dump it as soon as you meet Billy Coen. Hunting Gun: Dump it as soon as you have fired the 2 shells into the Scorpion. All keys and keycards: Dump them as soon as the game tells you the key has no further use. Hookshot: Dump it as soon as you use it to reach the hole in the ceiling in the platform room. Ink Ribbons: Drop them as soon as you have saved, this is because all typewriters have an ink ribbon beside them. Grenades: As soon as you reach the Laboratory, they are useless. Molotov Cocktails, Empty bottles and Gas Tanks: As soon as you killed the last humanoid leech in the treatment plant, you can forget about these items. Custom Handgun: As soon as you killed the zombies in the L shaped hallway in the Treatment Plant, you can use the Shotgun to kill the remaining enemies. It seems that the Panel Room where Rebecca activated the turntable had a secret hatch that can lead back to the sewer system of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2. Unfortunately, it was tightly sealed. Little does Rebecca know how close she is from home base. The large shutter that came down separating Rebecca and the Tyrant from the Birkin Lab entrance was still down in Resident Evil 2, so it seems that a lot of people fail to realize that it is absolutely easy to reenter the Training Facility and reopen it. Just start from the lab and take the elevator back up to Level 1! Obviously, each area had their own independent power supply, and that is why the rest of the Birkin Lab was not affected by anyway of the self-destruct system. While William Birkin and Albert Wesker were talking in the Birkin Lab, why didn't I see any other Umbrella personnel in the area? I thought that at that time, the lab should be fully functional, and hence there should be a lot of researchers around. Maybe, it is simply because that was the off hour of the facility, and every one has gone home or are sleeping in the staff quarters. But still, why haven't anyone come out of the security room to stop Rebecca? When you play Resident Evil 2, in any character's B game, you can enter a room with a large broken canister. You now know what was inside. It seems that the prototype Tyrant somehow burst out from that capsule to attack Rebecca. But how could William Birkin neglect that room for 2 months on end to September? -------------------------- 8. Minigame: Leech Hunter -------------------------- After you have beaten the game once, then this new minigame will be available to you. The object of this minigame is to travel around the Training Facility and the Facility Basement to collect 50 Green Leech Charms and 50 Blue Leech Charms, making up 100 in total. I will not bother to tell you where the 100 charms are, but I will just give you some tips and tricks. In this minigame, one man can do the job better than two. So you should use Billy, to exterminate every single monster found in the minigame before sending Rebecca to come with you to get the charms. The leech charms, once picked up, cannot be dropped, so you should think twice before picking them up, particularly you have more than 20 in your inventory, and are lacking room for weapons. Only the fire key doors are locked, and you will have to find the fire key to open them. There are 2 Grenade Launchers in this game, one holds only one rounds, while the other can either be holding 30 Grenades, Acid Grenades or Napalm Grenades. The Sub-machine gun and Magnum appear interchangeably. The Shotgun Ammo come in units of 14, instead of 7 in this minigame. Switch to the Custom Handgun as soon as you have found it. It fires faster and does damage. Skip the west wing of the 1st floor, as there are no leech charms there, just humanoid leeches and possible damage. However, if you want extra shotgun ammo, you can find them in the men's room, and a Green Herb, a Blue Herb and a Red Herb can be found in the operations control room. By the time you have picked up about 90 leech charms, monsters will reappear in several places. You can side step this problem by not collecting the leech charms in the main hall and the conference room until the end. To end the game, simply let one of your characters die, or exit the main entrance of the Training facility. Please note that the dead character's leeches will not be counted. Rewards for completing the game are as follows: Grade E: 1-29 Leeches Reward: Sub-machine gun ammo found in Rebecca's inventory in the start of the game, as well as many other places in the game. Grade D: 30-59 Leeches Reward: All handguns have infinite ammo. Grade C: 60-89 Leeches Reward: The Hunting Gun will have infinite ammo. Grade B: 90-99 Leeches Reward: A much more powerful Magnum Revolver will be found in Cabin 202 of the train. There are 5 shots only, so save it for bosses. Grade A: 100 Leeches Reward: All weapons found in the game will have infinite ammo. The Molotov Cocktail can be found in Cabin 202 of the Train. Use this reward in conjunction with Grade B reward for best effect! You will see what I mean, heh heh. Please note that if you got a higher grade, but did not get the rewards of lower grades, those rewards of a lower grade will not be available to you. So, to be more precise, to get all 5 rewards, you must play this minigame 5 times, each time with different grades to get all 5 rewards. ---------------- 9. Secrets ---------------- At the end of the game, you will receive a rank depending on the time it takes for you to complete the game. There are 5 ranks: S, A, B, C and D. To get an A rank, beat the game in between 3.5 hours and 5 hours, and you will be rewarded with a sub-machine gun, that can be found on Billy when you first meet him in the train. The ammo is not unlimited, and to get the ammo, get an E grade in the Leech Hunter minigame. To get an S rank, beat the game in less than 3.5 hours, and you will be rewarded with a Rocket Launcher! This time with infinite ammo! My best record was 3:23:17. To get an S rank, you should try to skip all FMVs and Files, and remember the solutions to all the puzzles. Also, only take what you need to ensure that you have enough inventory spaces. Beating the game in any rank also gives you the Leech Hunter mini-game, and the Closet Key, which can be used to open the closet in cabin 101 of the train. Inside are alternate costumes, 2 for Rebecca, and a suit for Billy. The Leech Hunter minigame can be found on your Billy/00/CLEAR file on the memory card. ---------------- 10. Conclusion ---------------- Well, that's the end of my guide. For simplicity, I will just let GameFAQs post my guide now. All other requests will be rejected for now. This guide is copyright 2004 and the years to come to Alasdair Lo Kai Yan. Anyone can read this guide, or print it out to help them in the game, just don't copy it! Resident Evil 0 really is a very good and fun Gamecube exclusive, featuring many new concepts. However, I am sad to see that the RE2 and RE3 ports to Gamecube have very poor 1998 and 1999 style graphics. So I will be very anxious to wait until Resident Evil: Code Veronica Complete ships this summer, and Resident Evil 4 to arrive in 2004. If you have any questions, please contact me by my e-mail address: kylohk@netvigator.com. Don't bombard me with spam! Besides, read the Feedback Information before you send any replies. See you later. --------------------------------- Appendix I: Feedback Information --------------------------------- Since the publishing of the original version of my Command and Conquer: Generals Side Comparison Guide, I have decided that I must make some new rules for those people who want to give me a feedback about my guides. All future strategy guides will have this section. If the following rules are not observed, I will just consider your e-mail to be spam mail or flame mail, and I will delete it without reading it, and will blacklist your e-mail address. For publishing permission: I used to allow people to publish my guides on their websites as long as they ask for permission. However, I will now ignore all the requests for this guide to be posted on other websites due to the fact that I am updating it consistently, and only Gamefaqs can receive the most updated version of this guide. Besides, having only one site host my work can help in creating efficiency, as there will be many stray versions of my guide in the internet and stuff, and it will make things very difficult to the readers. Although I do not have a lawyer to sue anyone if they do it without my permission, I expect everyone to have self discipline about these things. Concerning the submission of your own tips: I am always ready to accept tips from readers in order to add more flavor to my guide. However, you must read my guide thoroughly first, and make sure that your tip has not been listed in my guide. Otherwise, it would be a waste of your time or my time. Feedback Concerning Mistakes: (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, LISTEN UP): As I am a human, and we are all humans, we all make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. If I had made any mistakes in my guide, feel free to e-mail me. But however, you must follow these rules. I have typed out some bad examples with each rule, and they are from some of the e-mail I received by people who are dissatisfied by my original Command and Conquer: Generals side comparison guide. You must: Be polite, as I will take these feedback letters as seriously as formal letters, and you should specify the version number of my guide, then I can check my guide out. However, it need not be as formal as business letters, after all it is only a game. You should also present yourself clearly, I won't even think about anything that I cannot understand at the first glance, as I am a busy person. For example, "I enjoyed reading your guide, but disagreed with you on some points." From a person called Alex Shikh or "I agree with you that China is the strongest factions, but it is not much stronger than the other 2." From Ives Gobau And so on. You must not: Say any foul language and offend me. For example, "Your guide was ********, full of lies and biased opinions." From K Truin. You are not going to make me listen by saying rude words to me, you will only give me the impression that you are either uneducated or have low EQ. Conduct any surveys about how good my guide is and give it to me, as I could not care less about your so-called surveys. For example, "I have conducted a survey about your guide and over 90% said that it was a trashy tabloid." From Frozak. Start a petition to have my guide removed. Before, I was worried about this annoying "Petition: FAQ Removal" board made by a certain person called GamerEX. That is, "I would like to start the petition to have kylohk's Command and Conquer: Generals Side Comparison Guide as it is based on opinions and fluff." When I was asked by IGN to publish my Side Comparison Guide on their site, I told the sender about my worries, and he assured me that I can stick with my own ways and need not listen to angry letter up. So, that's what, if you make any rash moves like organizing petitions, I really won't bother to negotiate with you. Finally, you must not say anything I consider to be racist. For example, "You mentioned that you live in China that is obvious, considering your bias towards this side, etc..." "I am afraid that your living in China has blinded your judgment so much." From someone I could not remember his name. So, what are you trying to say, say that us Chinese are all idiots? Besides, the word bias is used to describe unfair comparisons due to neglecting some facts. As I have put all facts into account, I really cannot have made any bias towards any sides. From all the 50 or so letters complaint I received, I decided to listen to less than 5 of them. Why? As only 5 of them could follow the rules stated above. So, you MUST take those points into consideration, or else, don't expect me to listen to you. Game Help: If you have read my guide and did not understand something, feel free to ask, but please do not do this too often, as my e-mail account has other uses. HOWEVER, if you ask about anything that is clearly explained in my guide, I will not answer it. You may have wondered why I put this section up. This is a new "Anti-disturbance" ordinance I set up for my own use, in order to minimize all those annoying and insulting things I receive. In fact, during September alone, I received at least a hundred of mail concerning my Side Comparison Guide, and I am now to make sure this will never ever happen again. Thank you for your cooperation. Yours, Lo Kai Yan Alasdair, kylohk. (Kai Yan Lo From Hong Kong) ------------------------ Appendix II. File Index ------------------------ These are the files that you will find in the game. ------------------------------- Court Order for Transportation ------------------------------- Court Order for Transportation 1598A-7635 Prisoner name: Billy Coen ID Number: D-1036 Former Second Lieutenant, Marine Corps Age: 26 Height: 5ft. He can take 4 zombie bites before he is in Caution, good for those zombie-brawlers out there (including me. Heh heh.) ------------------ Passenger's Diary ------------------ July 14th Orders came from the boss today. --------------------- Investigation Orders --------------------- (Stained with blood, some sections are illegible). -------------------- Note from Conductor -------------------- The key card for the Driver's compartment is in my bag always. --------------------------- Hookshot Operator's Manual --------------------------- -WARNING- This device should only be used when inspecting difficult to access car roofs, or when connecting special trains. ----------------------- Brake Operation Manual ----------------------- Using the Brake control. "Are the faint sounds of footsteps those of survivors?" -------------------- Notice to all Staff -------------------- (This document is very old. ------------------------- Regulations for Trainees ------------------------- Training facility Mission This Training facility will raise a new generation of model employees to serve the future of Umbrella Corp. --------------------------- Assistant Director's Diary --------------------------- September 2nd A useless bunch of trainees, as always. How ironic. ------------------ A Verse of Poetry ------------------ The Moon bows to the Earth The Earth swears loyalty to the Sun And the great Law of the Sun Governs all thing. This itself is the keystone, The pointer to glory All our hands cannot open the door to the heaven. Explanation: I have no idea what this verse is for. There is not a single puzzle in the game to do with the Sun, Earth and Moon. If anyone knows what this file is for, please tell me. ---------------- Microfilm Image ---------------- An image resulting from overlaying microfilms A and B. ----------------- Marcus's Diary 1 ----------------- December 4th We finally did it... the new virus! ---------------------------- 1st Investigator Unit Notes ---------------------------- We are searching the facilities, and it looks like a lot of the chemicals survived. (3) Mixing Green and Red Chemicals produces a Stripping Agent. ------------------------------------ Correctional Institute Inmates List ------------------------------------ Matthews, K. Deceased. Explanation: This tells us how cruel the way Umbrella treats its prisoners. -------------------------- About the Power Regulator -------------------------- Due to the recent lightning strike, the power regulator continues to be inoperative. --------------------------- Management Trainee's Diary --------------------------- What is it that Director Marcus is researching all the time? (2) The management trainee was infected by the T-virus since this point. ----------------- Marcus's Diary 2 ----------------- (This page has been torn out). --------------------- Leech Growth Records --------------------- February 3rd, 1978 Administrated "t" into 4 leeches. ---------------------- Investigator's Report ---------------------- Dr. --------------- Old Photograph --------------- (There's something written on the back of the photograph). To James, To commemorate your graduation, 1939 Explanation: This proves that Dr. Marcus graduated in 1939. This causes Billy to wander who the messiah guy is. -------------- BOW Report -------------- Research to date has shown that when the Progenitor virus is administered to living organisms, violent cellular changes cause a breakdown in the system. ------------------------ Investigator's Report 2 ------------------------ We should have finished with this dump long ago. -------------------- About Battery Fluid -------------------- Battery Fluid The fluid used in batteries is a diluted solution of mixed water and sulfuric acid. -------------------------------- Treatment Plant Manager's Diary -------------------------------- 5/10 Damn it! ---------------------- Gate Operation Manual ---------------------- To open the heliport in case of emergency, follow the procedures below: Removing the lock: There are four locking mechanisms in the room which must be activated in this order: 1. Southwest side 2. Northwest side 3. Southeast side 4. West side Turn each of the mechanisms' handles to unlock the gate. Explanation: As Rebecca is the person who is responsible for turning the handles, this file is practically useless to Billy. ------------------------------ Appendix III. Wesker's Report ------------------------------ Resident Evil 0 reveals more about the history of Umbrella, as well as creating a lot of plot holes in the series too. You will find Albert Wesker planning to leave Umbrella to join another company, but what was the man's story? This is what is going to happen to Albert Wesker sometime after the events of Resident Evil. My name is Albert Wesker. (You are shown Albert Wesker with the other STARS Alpha Team members in the opening FMV of the original Resident Evil) I aspired to become a leading researcher at Umbrella Inc. (You are shown the picture of Wesker with the other Umbrella researchers in a slide show.) A pharmaceutical enterprise who covertly conduction Bio Organic Weapons, better known as B.O.W., for development. (You are shown the empty streets of Raccoon City during the opening FMV of Resident Evil 2.) But at the leader development training ground situated in Raccoon City, I met a brilliant and talented researcher who decided to take a different path - William Birkin. (You are shown William Birkin gloating over his G-Virus.) In time I shifted my position to S.T.A.R.S., a Special Forces unit of the Raccoon Police Department. Umbrella, for crisis management reasons of their illegal Bio Organic Weapons development had many of its people working in the police department. (You are shown the Raccoon Police Department Police Station and a photograph of all the STARS members.) I became the leader of S.T.A.R.S. and conducted all sorts of intelligence activities for Umbrella. As I continued to serve I devised my own plans and waited for the right moment to execute them. Then at last, opportunity knocked. 24th July, 1998 The freak murder incidents had occurred in the forest near the mansion started it all. The mansion was Umbrella's secret BOW laboratory and it was clear that the in development T-Virus was the cause of the murder. Initially, Umbrella instructed me secretively to keep S.T.A.R.S. out of the case, but with the heightened emotions of the citizens S.T.A.R.S. had no choice but to move in. (You are shown the STARS walking in the forest.) That was when my next order was given. Dispatch S.T.A.R.S. to the mansion, dispose of them, then report the situation to headquarters so that their combat with the B.O.W. could be used for data analysis allowing Umbrella a comprehensive portrait of the B.O.W.'s combat abilities. (Meanwhile, you are shown Joseph Frost calling to his teammates before the Cerberus Dogs kill him.) From the 2 S.T.A.R.S. teams I first pitched in the Bravo Team. As expected, the top elite of S.T.A.R.S. gave all they had and became useful sample data. Then following, I geared up the Alpha Team to "search and rescue" the lost Bravo Team. (There is a problem with the pictures here. After all, Joseph Frost is not a Bravo Team member.) The members of the Alpha Team also proved their worth and as expected many died. There were 5 Survivors from the initial 11 S.T.A.R.S. members. From the Alpha Team were Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Barry Burton. And from the Bravo Team were Rebecca Chambers and Enrico Marini. (You are shown each STARS Alpha team member as they run away from the Cerberus Dogs.) (You are shown Chris, Jill and Wesker talking in the main hall. You are then shown Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they fight against zombies, crows and Cerberus Dogs.) It was time to begin executing my plans. In the midst of the whole affair I could take Umbrella's ultimate Bio-Organic Weapon, the Tyrant, and join forces with an opposing corporation of Umbrella. To buy into that opposing corporation I would need the actual combat data of the Tyrant. (You are shown the prototype Tyrant. You also see the Hunters running into the Mansion in the older FMV.) The surviving privileged members of S.T.A.R.S. were just the perfect bait. I decided to have one of them play the Judas and draw them to the Tyrant. (Meanwhile, you get to see Chris and Jill fighting even more monsters here and there.) That Judas was Barry. (You are shown a cutscene involving Jill and Barry, as well as a photograph of Barry with his family.) Barry was the strong truth and justice kind and cherished his family more than anything. His type is easy to manipulate. I just took that most important thing away from him. My only miscalculation was the high potential of Chris and Jill. But with the family man Barry playing Judas the scheme went as planned. (You see Chris and Jill as they fight even more monsters.) Then the winds turned unexpectedly. I had to eliminate Enrico who found out what was behind it all. I used Barry to get to him. (You are shown Enrico talking to Jill underground before someone shoots him dead.) After I successfully got rid of that nuisance I awaited the sample specimen that Barry would bring to me in the Tyrants room. (You are shown the older cut-scene between Wesker, Barry and Jill. Jill is talking in a horrible voice.) I injected the virus I obtained from Birkin in advance. If I made Umbrella believe I was dead, it made it far more convenient to sell myself to the opposing corporation. According to Birkin the virus had profound effects. It would put my body in a state of temporary "death." It would then bring me back to life with super human powers. Therefore I unleashed an awesome Tyrant from its slumber and let it attack me. (You are shown the Tyrant knocking Wesker out.) As my consciousness faded away I was certain that the whole scheme would end in success. Never did I imagine that S.T.A.R.S. could slay the evil creation. (You are shown Chris blowing the Tyrant to bits with a Rocket Launcher) I lost the Tyrant and the plan I devised which cost me my humanity ended in failure. Now anything and anyone who stood in my way would be terminated. It's been that way for a long time and it always will be. At all costs I had to make S.T.A.R.S. pay. (You are shown Chris and Jill in the helicopter in the closing FMV.) September, 1998 Two months had passed since the mansion incident. To regain everything I had lost in my new organization I joined hands with Ada Wong, a female agent who was also sent to spy on Umbrella. (You are shown Ada Wong as she meets Leon in the Police Station Parking Lot. You also see Annette Birkin pointing her gun at Ada, saying that no one can take the G-Virus away from her.) I knew in my bones that the key developer was William Birkin, but what he didn't know was that Umbrella did not play games... with anyone. Eventually, Birkin would be assassinated, and the G-Virus would be in the hands of Umbrella. (You are shown William Birkin in his confrontation with 2 Umbrella Agents. An Umbrella Agent shot Birkin, badly injuring him while the other takes the case of the G-Virus and the two leave.) But the salvage team led by Hunk was ahead of us. By the time they got to Birkin, he'd already injected himself with the G-Virus... he became his own creation, and decimated them. (You are shown how all the agents attempt to fight William Birkin, and all of them were killed, except one.) Soon after, the T-Virus carried by rats spread throughout Raccoon City, and Umbrella faced its worst scenario. (You get to see the rats moving around the broken vials of T-Virus.) 28th September, 1998 The good citizens became zombies, and the city had headed for its devastating fate. Humans were no match against zombies. (You get to see the opening FMV of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis._ In the chaos, Umbrella Europe applied a new type B.O.W., called "Nemesis". The Nemesis would hunt down and destroy the surviving member of S.T.A.R.S., Jill. It became imperative that our organization would also obtain the Nemesis data. (You get to see Jill meeting Brad Vickers outside the R.P.D. Precinct before the Nemesis kills Brad.) 29th September, 1998 (You are shown the opening FMV of Resident Evil 2, with Leon Scott Kennedy and Claire Redfield driving off in a car.) To cover up the whole affair, Umbrella jettisoned a Tyrant to take care of Leon and Claire, who were trying to unveil their secrets. (You are shown a T-103 Mr. X tyrant being airdropped into the Raccoon Police Department by helicopter.) Then, a new revelation. Birkin used to hide the findings of his studies in his daughter Sherry's pendant. (You are shown Sherry Birkin hugging Claire.) It was very possible that the G-Virus was there. While Umbrella was busy with their cover up, we had to capture Sherry before they did. I sent Ada undercover to seek the location of Sherry. I, the "dead man" on the other hand, had to work in the shadows. (You are shown Ada Wong and Sherry running around in the Sewer and the Sewage Disposal Plant.) A spy's obligation and priority is in the mission, to carry out the mission like a machine without any emotional interference. (You are shown Leon interacting with Ada here and there. You are shown Leon fighting William Birkin's 3rd form using a Gattling Cannon outside the train car on the turntable.) But through her interaction and involvement with Leon S. Kennedy, there'd been an affection growing inside her. (You are shown Leon talking with the injured Ada as she lies down on a bed in the Security Room of the Birkin Lab. My instincts sensed danger, something had to be done, quickly. My instincts did not disappoint me. Even though Ada almost had her hands on the G-Virus, which Leon had acquired from Sherry, that affection of hers drove her to her death. (You are shown the cut-scene between Ada and Leon over the Central Shaft, and Ada fell into the shaft.) But she was still of some use. I had to save her life. My people hurried to retrieve the G-Virus that Leon threw away. But Hunk, the only survivor of Umbrella's salvage team, was there before us. (You are shown Leon throwing the G-Virus into the shaft, and scenes of the 4th Survivor minigame, featuring Hunk. The Timers are still shown.) 30th September, 1998 (You are shown Leon in his final fight with the T-103 Tyrant. Leon finishes him off with a Rocket Launcher thrown to him by Ada.) Our only option left was to bring back Birkin, the monster, as the sample specimen and have him finish off Leon and Claire in order to obtain his combat data. Although Birkin lost the battle to Leon and Claire, we succeeded in gathering samples of the G-Virus from his dead body. 1st October, 1998 (You are shown the final FMV of Claire B Scenario of Resident Evil 2.) In the morning the government bombed Raccoon City in an attempt to stop for the viral outbreak. This was, of course, their feigned reason. (You are shown the ending FMV of Resident Evil 3, where Jill and Carlos Oliveira took off in a helicopter before Raccoon City was nuked.) Later, Claire left for Europe to find her lost brother Chris, and Leon joined forces with a underground anti-Umbrella organization. (You are shown the final FMV of Claire B Scenario of Resident Evil 2. Sherry is safe in our hands. I would never underestimate Birkin. (You are shown Sherry Birkin unconscious as she is imprisoned behind bars.) There's something about this little girl..." Analysis: Albert Wesker's purpose of life is to be a leading research of a large pharmaceutical company called Umbrella that develops bioweapons underground. However, he decided to take a different path after having met another researcher in Raccoon City called William Birkin. Later, Albert Wesker joined the Raccoon Police Department, and became the head of a division known as the Special Tactics and Rescue Service, or S.T.A.R.S. After all, Umbrella had many people working in the Police Department to ensure their security. Meanwhile, Albert Wesker made his own plans and waited for the moment to execute them. At last, his chance came on July 24, 1998. Some strange occurrences in Raccoon Forest started the incident. The mission was to investigate a mansion in which Umbrella conducted various experiments with their bioweapons. At first, Umbrella tried to keep Wesker out of it, but due to the reactions of the general public, and S.T.A.R.S. had to move in. Therefore, Albert Wesker was given a new mission, to lure the S.T.A.R.S. members into the estate, and wipe them out, then report to the Umbrella Headquarters so that their combat data with the bioweapons can be used for useful data analysis. First, Albert Wesker sent in the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, the Bravo Team fought the bioweapons and provided useful combat data. Then, he sent in the Alpha Team to rescue the lost Bravo Team. They also struggled with the bioweapons, and as a result, many members died. Of the Alpha Team, there were 3 survivors, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and Barry Burton, on the other hand, Rebecca Chambers and Enrico Marini also survived. Wesker then decided to make one of the survivors act as the traitor and lead them to the Tyrant. He chose Barry Burton. Barry is a person who loves his family more than anything in the world, and such people are easy to manipulate. All Wesker had to do was to kidnap his wife and his two daughters to make him work for him. The whole plot was going well, in spite of the superior combat abilities of Chris and Jill, but suddenly, the tides turned. It seemed that the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team leader, Enrico Marini had discovered the plot and therefore had to be eliminated. To kill him, Albert Wesker sent Barry in and he shot him dead. He then waited for Barry to bring him Jill to the Tyrant's Experiment Room. Before all this happened, Albert Wesker injected a virus William Birkin prepared for him in advance. This virus would put Albert's body through a temporary stage of death, and then will allow Albert Wesker to regain consciousness with super powers. If he gives Umbrella the impression that he was dead, then it would be even easier to carry out his plans. Therefore, he deliberately let the Tyrant stab through him. As Albert Wesker fainted, he was sure that his plan will succeed. However, he never expected that S.T.A.R.S. could kill the Tyrant, and his plan that cost him his humanity failed. Albert Wesker then swore revenge against S.T.A.R.S. or anyone that got in the way of his plans. Two months, later, in September, Albert Wesker decided to join forces with an agent who was sent to spy on Umbrella called Ada Wong. Ada Wong's target was the G-Virus. Albert Wesker knew that William Birkin was the key researcher behind the virus, and what William Birkin did not know was that Umbrella does not like people to mess with them. Eventually, William Birkin will be assassinated, and Umbrella would have obtained the G-Virus from him. That was the work of Hunk's Team, by the time they had reached William Birkin, he had already injected T-virus into his own body, and he became a G-type, and killed all of them except for Agent Hunk. Meanwhile, the T-Virus was spread in the sewers by rats throughout Raccoon City. As a result, most Raccoon City residents turned into zombies, and humans were no match against them. At the same time, Umbrella sent in their new bioweapon prototype, called the Nemesis, which is also an improved Tyrant. The Nemesis' mission was to eliminate any remaining S.T.A.R.S. members in Raccoon City. It was also important that Wesker's new organization could obtain the Nemesis data. While that was happening, Leon and Claire's actions in Raccoon City made life difficult for Umbrella, and they sent in a Tyrant to eliminate them. Wesker also made a new discovery. William Birkin used to hide his discoveries inside his daughter, Sherry's pendant. He thought that the G-Virus sample was very likely to be inside it. Therefore, Wesker's men had to capture Sherry. Ada Wong was sent to look for her, while Wesker had to work in the background to avoid detection from Umbrella. Wesker believed that as a spy, Ada Wong had to work without any emotional interference from other people. However, her growing love and care for Leon was starting to trouble him. Wesker was convinced that Ada would be in danger if she continued to be like that, and he was right. Ada almost got the G-Virus, but she was shot in the back while she tried to get it from Leon, and she fell to her doom in a shaft. But Ada was still some use to Wesker, and that was why he saved her. His men hurried to recover the vial of G-Virus that Leon had thrown away, but Hunk got it before they did. As a result, the one remaining option was to let William Birkin kill Leon and Claire so that they can obtain his combat data. But still, Birkin was killed, and Wesker's men ended up picking a G-virus sample from his dead body. In the morning of October 1st, the US Government nuked Raccoon City to stop further spreading of the T-Virus, that was their excuse. Claire left for Europe to continue her search for her brother Chris, and Leon joined an anti-Umbrella organization. Meanwhile, Sherry was kidnapped by Wesker. Let's hope she is not going to be sexually assaulted or anything... -------------------------------- Appendix IV. Wesker's Report II -------------------------------- At the release of the Resident Evil Remake, Capcom wrote another background story of the Resident Evil series, with Albert Wesker as the narrator. This traces back 20 years before the mansion incident in 1998, and helps to explain some of the newer things in Resident Evil, like Lisa, and may explain some things about Resident Evil Zero. Story 1: "Woman Specimen Subject" 31st July, 1978 (Monday) It was summer, 20 years ago and I was 18 years old when I visited there for the first time. I can still smell the stench of the air stirred up by the helicopter's rotor blades. The mansion looked perfectly ordinary from the sky, but on the ground, I sensed something that made me fear to tread. Birkin, who was two years younger than me, was interested in nothing but the research paper her was reading. We had only been assigned to that place two days previously, the same day they decided to close down the executive training centre we belonged to. This looked either carefully planned or pure coincidence, only Spencer knows. Here, Arclay Laboratory, was the very place where Spencer himself had a base for 'T-virus' research. As we got off the helicopter, we saw the Laboratory Manager was waiting for us at the lift. I can't even remember the guy's name. No matter what his official title, the laboratory belonged to Birkin and I from that day. We were given full authority as chief research engineers. This was of course Spencer's intention. We had been chosen. We completely ignored the Laboratory Manager and got into the lift as the previous day I had memorised a map of the building. As for Birkin, he didn't mean any offence but he never had tie for others. Being in our company for more than five seconds would have made most people angry. The Laboratory Manager, however, showed no response. As I was an egoistic young man these days, I did not take any notice of his lack of reaction. After all, while I was there I was merely dancing to Spencer's tune and the Lab Manager knew his intention better than I did and acted accordingly. While we were in the lift, Birkin was concentrating on the papers, which contained detailed reports on Ebola, a Filovirius, which had been discovered in Africa two years ago. Even now, many people across the world are still studying Ebola. But there are two distinct reasons why. Some are studying the virus in order to save lives, while others have more sinister reasons. 90% of those infected with the Ebola virus will die. Once infected, body tissue is destroyed within ten days. There is no vaccination and no cure. If used as a weapon it is incredibly frightening. Of course the treaty on Prohibition of Use of Biological Weapons had been in effect long before that so it was illegal to conduct research on the potential use of the virus as a weapon. However, it's perfectly legal to conduct research on it to prevent its spreading if it was used by someone else as a weapon. It is only a thin line between the two researches - in fact there is practically no difference between the two. As you must investigate how it can be used as a weapon in order to know how it can be stopped. This means it is possible to pretend that research is for the purpose of prevention and cure while your true aim is the opposite. However, Birkin was interested in neither of these routes as the virus had too many imperfections. Firstly, it dies easily when in contact with direct sunlight and can only survive outside the body for a few days. Secondly, the virus does not have enough time to move onto the next host as it kills its initial host too quickly. Lastly, the virus is transmitted in body fluids and secretions, which can easily be prevented. However, consider this: What if the person infected with the virus, could stand up and walk? And if, subconsciously they sought direct physical contact with uninfected people? The Ebola gene is an RNA gene. RNA genes can mutate a human's genes and that mutation would allow the human to have monster-like semi immortality? This creature would be a @Human Biological Weapon' - to all intents and purposes dead as a human being but still infecting other humans as long as it is alive. It was lucky for us that Ebola did not exhibit such characteristics. We could keep the Ebola with that particular capacity just for ourselves. The organization, which was established around Spencer, was for the manufacture of this 'living weapon'. Officially, it was a pharmaceutical company specializing in a cure for the virus, nut in reality it was a factory producing biological weapons. The discovery of the 'Founder Virus' which can modify genes seemed to be the genesis of this whole business. In order to manufacture the 'Human Biological Weapon' from the 'Founder virus', t was necessary to develop a variant with that particular peculiarity enhanced. That was the T-virus project. The 'Founder virus' is an RNA virus. RNA viruses are known to have a tendency to mutilate. That tendency enables us to manipulate them, strengthening their certain peculiarities. Birkin wondered if he could combine the Ebola gene with the mutated 'Founder virus' to enhance its peculiarity. The sample of the Ebola virus had already arrived to this laboratory. After switching from lift to lift we eventually reached the top security unit of the laboratory. Even Birkin took his eyes off his report when we met 'her' for the first time. We knew nothing about her. She was the biggest secret at the laboratory and her data was never removed from the premises. The records showed that she had been there ever since the institute was established. She was 25 years old. No one knew who she was or why she was there, She was a human specimen to develop the 'T-virus' on. The experiment started on the 10th November 1967. She had been receiving injections of viruses for 11 years. Birkin mumbled something - Was it to curse? Or to praise? We realized that there was no turning back. Were we to lead the research to a successful conclusion or rot away like her? Of course we had no choice. The sight of her bound to a shabby hospital bed moved something in out conscience. Was it apart of Spencer's plan? (Record continues three years later) Story 2: 'Alexia 1' 27th July 1981 (Sat) (Three years after the previous report) Today a 10 year old girl was appointed as a senior researcher at the South Pole Laboratory. Her name was Alexia Ashford. I was 21 years old and Birkin was 19. Irritatingly, the rumour about Alexia of the South Pole monopolised discussions amongst Arclay's researchers. The Ashford name was legendary to the old staff who had been at Umbrella long enough to remember. Whenever the research came to a standstill they always said 'If only Dr Ashford was still alive". Certainly Dr Ashford was a great scientist, one of the original research team who discovered the 'Founder virus', and the originator of the 'T-virus' project. However, he died soon after Umbrella was established. 13 years has passed since his death. What was the point of expecting anything from the Ashford's? In fact the South Pole laboratory, which was founded after Dr Edward's death by his son, had so far yielded no results. So, not much can be expected from the granddaughter, Alexia! However, from that day, our dotard subordinates started saying 'If only Ms Alexia were here'. It seemed like there was no potential for future development in this lab, as long as we had staff like those bunch of idiots, who could only judge people by their genealogy, instead of using their own sense of values. Those fools could never take initiative and would remain as minor researchers even though they had one foot in the grave. But I was different, I had good judgment. If I, as the chief researcher, had become emotional, the development of the 'T-virus' would have been delayed further. To achieve results, one must stay calm and make sensible decisions whatever the circumstances. An idea came to me - The success of the research relied on how to handle those ancient gentlemen. As they could drop dead at any moment, wouldn't they be most useful if we were to use them for the most dangerous experiments. The art of management is to utilize everyone beneath you. However, Birkin was becoming a nuisance. His reaction towards the Alexia rumors was so pathetic. Although he never said it, he took pride in becoming the youngest ever chief researcher at the age of 16. But this 10 year old girl had smashed his figurative trophy to pieces. It must have been the first time he had felt defeated. He could never approve of someone who was younger, with breeding, and a woman. It was unimaginable that he was being affected by a personnel reshuffle in such a far away place, where there had been no achievements for so long. After all, he was still a kid. Immature as he was, I needed him to pull himself together. Over the last three years our research had reached the second stage. By then, the 'T-virus' was becoming stable enough to be used to create 'Living Biological Weapons', better known as Zombies. However, the virus would never be able to modify the human gene 100% - there are compatibilities between the virus and the genes because no one person's genes are exactly alike. 10% of all humans would make a lucky escape and not develop the disease, even though a zombie infected them with the virus. There was nothing we could do about this, no matter how hard we tried. If it had a 90% success rate then it was good enough to use as a biological weapon. But Spencer didn't seem to be satisfied. Our boss wanted a 'stand-alone' weapon which could wipe out and entire population. But, what for? Essentially, the virtue of biological weapons was the low development costs. But out 'Living Biological Weapon' was becoming extremely expensive. Spencer would never have chosen this path if he was looking for financial rewards. If manufactured for use in conjunction with an orthodox weapon, it would have made a handsome profit. But to keep the research going to make a stand-alone, exterminatory weapon did not make business sense. Why did he continue ignoring the cost? If his aim was to monopolise the entire war industry by changing the very concepts of war, perhaps I could agree a little bit. I still didn't know what his true intention was. Apart from Spencer's intention, Birkin was engineering a living biological weapon with an increased emphasis on its ability to fight. He was trying to create it not only through mutating human genes with the 'T-virus' buts also by adding another creature's genetic information. The fighting living biological weapon would kill all human beings, including those wearing body armour, or equipped with biological warfare suits and those humans who escaped from death through infection. It was called 'The Hunter'. But we had to suspend the experiment for a while - to protect the specimens from Birkin. Birkin, who had this meaningless anger directed at Alexia, started acting abnormally. He worked through the night at the lab time after time and repeated disorganized experiments one after another. Me and my staff collected biopsy samples as quickly as possible before the specimens could die, but we couldn't keep up with his speed. The Manager of the Laboratory supplied the new specimens as if nothing had happened, but they didn't survive long. It was Hell. But she, the female specimen survived the hell. She was 28 years old by then and had spent 14 years in this lab. The numerous injections of the 'Founder' virus she had received over the past 14 years would have left her bereft or any logical reasoning, but if she still had any mind left, death would have been the one and only thing she wanted. But, she continued to live. Why was she the only one to survive? The experiment data did not highlight and difference between her and the other specimens. We needed much more time to find out the answers to that question. (Record continued 2 years later) Story 3 : 'Alexia 2' 31st December 1983 (Two years after the previous record) My 6th winter at Arclay Laboratory. Two almost stagnant years had passed without much achievement, but the turning point has finally arrived. The catalyst was a report we received that morning. Alexia had died at the South Pole institute. It was said that Alexia was accidentally infected by the T-Veronica virus which she herself had developed. At that time, Alexia was 12 years old, and was too young to continue this kind of dangerous research. A rumor began to circulate that Alexia had deliberately infected herself with the virus, but that seemed very unlikely. More likely, she had not got over the death of her father a year earlier and had made an error. At the South Pole institute, Alexia's research was then taken over by her twin brother, her only blood relative. But no one expected any worthwhile results from him. The Ashford family line seemed to have almost died out without producing anything of note. As I suspected, the legend surrounding this family was no more than that. Alexia's death changed Birkin - or should I say it transformed Birkin back to the person he once was. It played a major factor in Birkin's psychological well-being as his researchers started showing him more respect. With Alexia dead, these was no longer anyone who exhibited greater potential than him. However, talking about Alexia in front of him was still a taboo. Birkin strongly disagreed when I tried to get a hold of a T-Veronica sample. I had to bide my time to find a better opportunity to find out about Alexia's research. In spite of the fact that Birkin was in much stronger position he still never grew up. However, in those days, I had much bigger issues to contend with. The Arclay Laboratory was situated in the centre of a mountainous region, itself surrounded by a deep forest. I often went out for walks during my time there, but I never came across anyone else. Helicopter was the only means of reaching the laboratory, making it inaccessible to outsiders. The remoteness of the area and lack of people is an important factor when choosing a site for an institute like this, in order to minimise a potential disaster if the virus escaped. However, biological weapons were not as simple as that. The viruses would not just infect human beings. No virus chooses just one type of carrier. For Example, apart from humans, the influenza virus can infect birds, pigs, horses and even sea lions. It complicates the matter further when you know that not all the species of the same family can be infected. For instance, ducks and chickens might become infected, but other species of birds are spared. More over, the same virus may take different carriers, depending on its variants. It is impossible to know all the carriers for even just one virus. The biggest problem is the high adaptability of the 'T-virus'. While Birkin was not contributing much I had been studying the possibility of secondary infection from the 'T-virus'. What I discovered was that the 'T-virus' has carriers in almost every single species. Not only animals, but plants, insects, fish almost all the species have a potential to multiply and spread the 'T-virus' When I was strolling through the woods I always thought - Why did Spencer choose this location? There were so many species that co-existed in the forest. What would happen if the virus escaped and came into contact with a creature capable of being a carrier ? If it were some insects, then they would not pose a big threat of secondary infection due to their size. But insects can multiply to enormous numbers. In that case, how far could the virus be spread? Suppose it was some plants. It may appear at first that the possibility of widespread infection would be small as plants cannot move. But what about their pollen? This location was too dangerous. Come to think of it, it made perfect sense for the Ashford's to choose the South Pole as a site for their laboratory. In contrast, this location, it seems, was selected in order to spread the virus. But that couldn't be true, could it? What did Spencer want us to do? These thoughts were too important to share with anybody else in the laboratory. The only person I could possibly ask was Birkin. But, it was obvious there was no point in talking to him about it. What I needed was more information. Around this time, I started to feel the limitations of my situation. In order to find out Spencer's true intention, I needed to be in a position which would give me access to the information I required. I had no hesitation in giving up me present position for the purpose. But I did not want to be too hasty because if Spencer had any suspicions about my real motives, then the game would be up. I concentrated on my research with Birkin so that me real thoughts would not betray me. While we were keeping ourselves busy, the female specimen was almost forgotten about. A failure, with no use, but still she lived on. We called her a failure because we could not get any valid data from her. Until that experiment took place, five years later. (Record continues five years later) Story 4: 'Nemesis' 1st July 1988 (Fri) (Five years after the last record) It was our 11th summer since we arrived at the Arclay Laboratory. I was 28 year's old. Birkin was then, a father with a two year old girl. His partner was also a researcher at Arclay. It was hard to believe that anyone could marry and bring up a child while both of them worked there. On the other hand, because he was different he could continue his research at Arclay. Only the mad could succeed there. In those 10 years, our research finally reached the third stage. A highly sophisticated 'Fighting Biological Weapon' - with intelligence, which would obey programmed orders and act as a soldier. That was the monster we tried to create and we called it 'The Tyrant'. But, from the beginning there was one huge obstacle - it was almost impossible to obtain a living subject on which we could base the Tyrant. The supply of genetically adaptable human beings for the Tyrant was extremely limited. This is due to the nature of the 'T-virus'. The 'T-virus' variant which was ideal to create the zombies and the Hunters was suitable for most humans, but it had a fault of making the carrier's brain cells decline. To transform the carrier into a Tyrant we needed to keep the carrier's intelligence at a certain level. In order to overcome this issue, Birkin had been working on extracting a variant which would cause the least damage to the brain when it was adapted perfectly to the carrier. However, humans with a genetic match to this variant were extremely rare. The Genetic Analytic team's simulation report told us that only one in ten million would be infected and transformed into a Tyrant with the remainder becoming zombies. It might have been possible to develop a more progressive strain of the 'T-virus' which could make transform more humans into Tyrants. However, to push the research further, first of all we required human subjects with a perfect genetic match to the new variant. There was little possibility that such a specimen would be supplied to us, because even if we scoured the whole USA, we would only be able to find 50 or so of them. In fact, at the time, even with the utmost effort we only managed to collect a few specimens with a close match. Even from the outset, pour research was at a standstill. But one day, we heard a rumour that a European laboratory were working on a project to create the third generation Living Biological Weapon. It was called the 'Nemesis Project'. I acted quickly to obtain a sample from the project so that I could use it to our advantage. Of course, Birkin was against this idea, but this time I somehow managed to persuade him. He had no choice but to admit that our research wouldn't go any further unless we found the matching specimen. A few days later, in the middle of the night, a parcel arrived from Europe via various transit points. It arrived to out heliport in a small box. "Nemesis Prototype" We had to pull many strings to obtain if from the French laboratory where it had been developed, but it could not have happened without the support of Spencer. Birkin showed no interest at all, but he accepted the importance of the experiment. The sample had been developed with a new design in mind. A parasitic living body, created by genetically modification - that was Nemesis. A living body with intelligence, which was unable to do anything on its own. However, once it parasitized the brain of another living being it would take full control of the body and demonstrate its highly developed aptitude for combat. The project was to provide the intelligence and the biological body for combat separately and then combine them in order to create one living biological weapon. If it was successful we no longer needed to worry about the problems we had previously encountered. But there was a new problem in that it did not always settle in the carrier in the same manner as we desired. On the report attached to the sample we saw nothing but a long list of deaths. The carriers lasted for only about five minutes after Nemesis took control of their brains. But, we already knew that an incomplete prototype would be extremely dangerous. If we succeeded in prolonging the carriers' survival then we could hope to take the lead in the Nemesis project. This was my aim. Naturally, I was planning to use the female specimen. With her unusual ability to survive, she could endure the Nemesis prototype for a long time. Even if we failed, we would lose nothing. However, out experiments took an unexpected turn. Nemesis vanished when it tried to enter her brain. At first, we could not understand what happened. We never though that she would take over the parasite. That was the beginning. Until then, she was barely alive, but something was about to awake in her. We had to start examining her afresh. Over the last 10 years, she had been checked down to the minutest details, but we decided to ignore the past data and start anew. Now, for the first time in her 21 years of being here, something no one had seen was about to be revealed. After much examination, only Birkin noticed it. Something definitely existed in her. This, however, went beyond the original 'T-virus' project and led us in a totally new and different direction. That was the beginning of 'G-Virus' project, which changed all our destinies. (Record continues seven years later) Story : 5 'G-Virus' 31st July 1995 (Mon) (Seven years after the previous record) It was summer again and 17 years from the time I first visited the place. Whenever I went there I always remember the smell of the winds from that day. Nothing has changed since then, even the buildings and surroundings. I could see Birkin, who had already arrived, standing on the heliport. I had not seen him for a long time. Four years have passed since I left Arclay Laboratory. At that time, when Birkin's 'G-virus' project was approved, I applied for my transfer to the Information Bureau and was readily accepted. It must have looked natural for everyone that I was giving up my career as a researcher and seeking a change. Actually, the 'G-virus' project was beyond my abilities. Even if I did not have any reason to find out Spencer's true intention, it was true that I felt my faculties as a researcher had reached their limits. In spite of the downdraft caused by the helicopter, Birkin never took his eyes off the research papers. Although it seemed he still visited Arclay regularly, he was no longer a researcher at that facility. Sometime ago, he had been transferred to a hug underground laboratory in Raccoon City, which was his base for the G-virus project headed up by himself. Quite honestly, four years ago, I never thought that Spencer would approve the 'G-virus' project because it was founded on an unknown belief and deviated from the original concept of a biological weapon. The distinct difference between the 'G-virus' and the T-Virus was that the organism infected but the 'G-virus' continued to mutate by itself. Because a virus is an unprotected form of gene, it can easily mutate. This mutation can happen when a virus is left on its own, but once a virus is in other organism, it is a different story. A gene in an organism's body hardly mutates even though its structure was modified by a virus, unless some external influences, such as exposure to radiation, takes place. However, an organism infected with the 'G-virus' keeps mutating itself without any external influence until it dies. Similar characteristics did exist in the 'T-virus'. When we placed the 'Living Biological Weapon' under certain circumstances, we recorded some genetic recombination caused by an activated virus in its own body. However, in the case of the T-Virus, it always needed some external influences to trigger the recombination and the results were always close to what we predicted. G-infected organisms totally lacked such predictability. No one could foresee what recombination it would take, and whatever the means to stop the process it kept mutating nonetheless making our manipulation worthless. Seven years ago, Birkin found similar signs of this effect in the female specimen. On the surface she had not changed at all, but internally, she changed continuously and remained alive by merging and coexisting with all the experimental viruses she was administered. And the 21 years of internal mutation evolved her enough to accept the parasitic organism Nemesis. The 'G-virus' project was trying to push this abnormality to the ultimate limit. But, the end result of this project could be either the evolution of the ultimate organism or total destruction. Can we call this a weapon? What made Spencer approve this project? Even though I had been in the Information Bureau for four years by this time, I could still not understand his motives. And now, Spencer does not even come to Arclay. It is as if he had foreseen something was about to happen there. The image of Spencer was fading away from me like a mirage in the desert. But, an opportunity must present itself sometime. If I can survive until then. The lift was carrying both Birkin and me to the highest security level, to the place where we saw her for the first time. The new chief researcher John, Birkin's successor, was waiting for us there. He was transferred from the Chicago Laboratory and was said to be an excellent scientist, but he seemed to be too normal to work for this laboratory. He had doubts about the cruelty of the research and reported to his superior to correct the situation. That caused a big enough stir even in the Information Bureau. If was everyone's opinion that if any information was leaked, it had to come from him. We ignored John and started to give her the final treatment. To kill her. She has regained a little intelligence after taking in the Nemesis. But, it resulted in nothing more than making her behave strangely. The odd behavior continued to escalate. Nowadays, she peels off other women's faces and wears them over her own. The records show that she behaved in the same manner when she was first given the 'Founder' virus. We were never sure what made her react in such a way, but her termination was decided after three researchers became her victims. Now the study of the 'G-virus' was on track she lost her status as a valuable specimen. The termination of her vital signs was checked and confirmed repeatedly for the next three days. Then, the body was taken away to some location at the instruction of the Laboratory Manager. Even now, I still do not know who she was and why she was brought here. Of course it was exactly the same for other specimens. However, if she had not been there, the G-Project might never have existed and if that was the case then Birkin and I would be in very different situations. As I left Arclay Laboratory, I was thinking things over. Just how calculating is Spencer? (The 'Case' began three years after this report)
