The Microphone (or "Mic") ------------------------------> a. Before you start ------------------- Congratulations! You're playing the first Gamecube game that uses a Microphone, or as Mario Paty 6 says, "Mic". It fits directly into a standard Memory Card port, so just plug it in. Make sure you don't pull out a Mic just as you wouldn't a Memory Card, as this can damage the Mic or the Gamecube. I or Nintendo are not held responsible for this kind of damage. b. How to use ------------- The microphone is simple to use. Just hold down the blue button, speak, and release. But try not to speak to quickly, or the game won't understand you. Nor will the game understand you if you speak too loud/quietly, if there's too much interferance, or if there is a bad connection. 3. Mic Mode ------------------------------> Accessable by selecting the castle on Brighton's side of the Mode Selection Screen with the microphone plugged in. *Not available for "Use Controller" For more info, see 'Section 4: Other Things' a. Speak up ----------- Speak up is a verbal contest with five catagories. A bit like Jeapordy!, if you ask me. You play it with two to four players (unfortunatly no single player) and alternate with the mic. There are five catagories, Picture, Counting, Memory, Comparison, and Variety. There are also stars going across describing the level. The game board looks like this: ___________________________________________ | S P E A K U P | | | | | * | * * | * * | | | * | * * | * * | * * |* * *| |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | Picture | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | Counting | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | Memory | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | Comparison | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | Variety | | | | | | | | | | | | | |_____________|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| The object of the game is to get the most points. I'll explain the scoring later. Let's pretend to play. Say I'm player one and you're player two. At the start, you can only pick 1 * catagories. I go first. I choose Memory Quiz: Level 1, so when the Mic in the corner is pulsing with my character next to it, I hold down the blue button and say, "Memory Quiz" in the Mic. Mic is pulsing with my character --> Hold blue button --> Say "___________ Quiz" So, the 1 star Memory Quiz square flips over with my color, and the quiz starts. Say I guess right. A check appears on the colored square, I win however many points I got, and now you can choose the 2 star question for Memory Quiz. Your turn. Say you choose counting. When your character is next to the Mic and the Mic is pulsing, you say, "Counting Quiz" in the Mic as you hold the blue button. The square on 1 star Counting Quiz flips to your color, and the quiz starts. Say you guess right too. A check appears on the color and you win points. My turn. Say I choose Memory Quiz level 2. The square flips to my color, and pretend that I lose the quiz. Then comes a speed round. The other players can press A and say the answer. If you win, you get the points. If you lose, when the board comes again, the color appears grey, and an X appears. Play continues until half-time occurs, and either the scores will be told and play goes on, or Bowser will come and announce the scores. Play continues with wierd twists thanks to Bowser. Oh, yeah. A couple more things. There are sometimes bonuses. They will help you on the quiz you found it on. Say, you find a mushroom. If you get the answer right, the mushroom will double the points you normally get. A flower will make the quiz easier, a gold mushroom will triple the score, and a star will give you a second chance. If you get it wrong, though, the power-up won't be there for the speed round. There are different bonuses for when Bowser comes, like a poison mushroom will have the score timer go down faster, and a warp pipe will take points from another player. Unlike regular bonuses, these can be good OR bad. Now, for in-quiz. The quiz changes depending on the catagory. If you get the question right, you can win points depending on the level and how fast you answered it. When Brighton/Twila asks you a question, the score timer appears and the Mic in the corner will pulse. The timer counts down. When you press the blue button, the timer stops and the screen will be blocked. If you guess right, you win however many points you had left. On higher levels, you can get more points. The scoring goes as follows: _______ _________ 1 star |10 points| _______|_________| 2 stars|20 points| _______|_________| 3 stars|30 points| _______|_________| 4 stars|40 points| _______|_________| 5 stars|50 points| _______|_________| The points slowly decrease while you're thinking. Also, you can ask "Give me a hint" once per question to do just that. I'm not sure what the downside is, though. Please e-mail me. Choose catagory --> Quiz --> Look closely... --> Brighton & Twila will ask ^ you a question | | Next player's turn to <-- Win points <-- Guess right <-+---' ^ ^ | | | Guess wrong | | | | .-----------' | | | | | Right Person who <-- Speed round <-' | ^ pressed A first answers | | | '-Wrong-+-----------' b. Star Sprint -------------- Star Sprint is a single-player game where you control a character with the Mic. The commands are: Run Move up Move down Reverse Grab the star Freeze Jump Mario Party Your objective is to get a star to the finish line. Use the commands above to get around obstacles, grab power-ups, and get help from your friends. At the start, you say, "Grab the star". Say, "Run" four times to up your speed four times, "Move up" and "Move down" does just that, "Freeze" stops your character, "Jump" makes your character jump, and "Reverse" makes your character go back. If you hit an obstacle, it will disappear, you will stop and drop the star. If you drop the star, you will have to say, "Grab the star" and "Run" again. If you run over a speed panel, your speed gauge will turn gold and you will go approximatly twice as fast as 4 speeds. If you jump at the metal mushroom, not only will you go faster, but you will also break through any obstacle. Eventually there are obstacles that even the metal mushroom can't break. Say, "Mario Party" to call over your friends. Saying a certain command that Brighton will tell you will make your friends do what you said. If I'm being too confusing, here is an example. To roll a log, say, "Roll it", to pump water, say, "Pull it" and "Push it" as you would with a real pump. If you reach the end fast enough, you will get rewarded with stars for the star bank + the star you took across. c. Mic Mini-games ----------------- These are the mini-games you may encounter in Mario Party 6. You can play them here by yourself, or with friends. They go as follows: 1. -Verbal Assault- The person with the Mic yells weapons from a large machine, while the other three avoid them trying to fire their little guns at the single player. If the team of three get hit 3 times each, the person with the Mic wins. When one of the team of three get hit 3 times, the other players have to do without him/her. The lights of the single player's machine and the hearts on the bottom of the screen describe the health each player has. Mic- Shoot 6-way missles: "Missles" Drop some bombs : "Drob Bombs" Shoot lasers : "Lasers" Shoot fire : "Fire" *There are also buyable weapons too. See the "Buyable Secrets" Section* Controller- Move: Control Stick Fire: A button 2. -Word Herd- In this game the person with the Mic says, "Up," "Down," "Left," and "Right," to guide the Goombas away from the three players, who try to punch them out. The single player has to have at least one Goomba left by when the timer runs out. If all the Goombas are gone, the other three players win. Also, in dire cases, the single player can say, "Scramble," to have the Goombas do just that. Mic- Move up: "Up" Move down: "Down" Move left: "Left" Move right: "Right." Controller- Move: Control Stick Punch: B button 3. -Talkie Walkie- The single player must get across a number of tiles to reach the stairs. Sounds easy, right? _ __ __ \ /|_)/ \|\ |/ __ | \/\/ | \\__/| \|\__/ . Not only does the single player have to dodge the other players' attacks, he/she also has to avoid the edges. Plus, they have to watch their words, 'cause one wrong move can send him/her to his/her death. The three players have a hard time, too. Because they have slow attacks, it's easy to miss. Mic- Move toward the stairs: "Forward" Move away from the stairs: "Move back" Move left: "Left" Move right: "Right" Fall to your doom: Left, Left, Left... OR Right, Right, Right... OR Move back, Move back... OR .......................... Controller- Move: Control Stick Fire: A button 4. -Shoot Yer Mouth Off- This game is easy for the single player. He/she yells numbers to command the 3 Shy Guys, to try and get rid of the other players, who have to last till the timer runs out. Like Verbal Assault, when one player is gone, the others will have to do without him/her. Mic- Fire Bullet Bills: "1," "4," "9" Fire Bob-ombs: "2," "3," "5," "6," "7," "8" Controller- Move: Control Stick *Buyable cheat available. Please see Cheats Section* 5. -Fruit Talktail- The Mic person says a fruit, and the others must run to a tile of that fruit, before the other tiles fall down. The tiles will fall faster and faster as time goes by. If all the characters fall to their death, the single player wins. If they last, they win. Mic- Have fruit fall but one said: "Banana," "Strawberry," "Grape," "Melon," "Orange" Controller- Move: Control Stick Jump: A button *Buyable tip available. See Cheat Section* 4. If you don't have a Mic... ------------------------------> Don't worry! You can play all of the Mic mini-games and even Mic mode games with the controller. Just press R and select a voice command (press R, use Control Stick to select, and press A). But it is much better to use a Mic because not having one not only defeats the purpose of this FAQ, but the game is much less fun. But it doesn't really matter. You can use the controller to access voice commands by going to Options mode. Select Mic settings, and choose, "Use Controller". 5.
