I recently produced a FAQ for Mario Kart Wii, so I figured.. Hey! - why don't I write one for it's predecessor, Double Dash!! What we have here is a spectacular game with many features and great abilities - so lets check it out! DOUBLE DASH SCHEME Being titled "Double Dash", you race with two chracters per kart, no matter how many are playing. This is by far the biggest add-on, and it makes for a good time. It is quite easy, and it is far easier than I perceived it to be. GUIDE This guide is at version 1.00. It covers all topics that I am aware of. MKDD is quite an old game, so this guide is likely not to be updated. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` --VE.HI------------------------VERSION HISTORY-------------------------VE.HI-- Guide Started on 7 / 13 / 2010 Date: 7/13/2010 Version: 0.25 - Added.. - Title - Introduction, Double Dash Scheme, Guide headings - Controls - Driving Techniques - Notes.. A method of sliding. WHAT GOOD IS DRIFTING? It helps you pass through sharp corners with ease. A mini-turbo is provided with a succesfull drift. WHEN SHOULD I DRIFT? All the time. Drifting is an important technique, and you should practice it a lot - especially becuase it ties in with SNAKING [see below]. HOW DO I DRIFT? Hold L or R along a turn and glide yourself through. The more you change direction, the better the mini-turbo. ------- Snaking ------- WHAT IS SNAKING? A method that gives you constant speed. WHAT GOOD IS SNAKING? It gives you a constant speed boost. WHEN SHOULD I SNAKE? All the time. HOW DO I SNAKE? Repeatedly drift on a track, whether you are on a straight or turn. Remember, snaking can be very helpful, so practice it! ------------ Rocket Start ------------ Perform a rocket start by tapping on A during the countdown to a race. When "GO!" appears on the screen, hold A and you should shoot out ahead. With two players, you can double your rocket start speed when both players do the rocket start at the exact same time. ------------- Slipstreaming ------------- SLIPSTREAMING...WHAT THE HECK? Of course, it is a driving technique. More specifically, it is gained by being positioned behind another kart. Blue lines, (they are air lines) will appear that give you a jet of speed. -------------- Stealing Items -------------- This is only done on Multiplayer. When an enemy kart is near, the riding player can press L or R (L to go left, R to go right). This will steal any items that the enemy formerly posessed. Items can also be stolen by running into an enemy in the time that you feel the effect of a mushroom. If you hit a player that does not have items, the player will be knocked off balance. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` _ ________________________________________________________________ _ _| |_ _| |_ |_ _| 02.00 ITEMS 02.00 |_ _| |_| ________________________________________________________________ |_| WHAT ARE ITEMS? The very thing that make this game frustrating. Ultimately, they are for attacking an opponent and messing them up, but by the time you get to 150cc, they are brutal. WHERE DO ITEMS COME FROM? In broad terms, they come from the Mario World. In this game, they are compact into an item box that is obtained by driving through one. * In this game, each character has a "Special Item" that is more powerful and helpful than a normal item. Special items appear randomly - there is no specific way to get them (except passing through an item block, but then the item is chosen randomly, so hence my point - they appear randomly). Even if a character isn't paired up with their normal partner, they will still receiv their own Character Special. So, here we go - the item list. ============ Normal Items ============ Item: Banana Uses: Placing on the track to block shells Placing on the track to spin out enemies Cons: None Item: Green Shell Uses: Throwing out to hit enemy karts Cons: Only travels in a straight line Item: Red Shell Uses: Throwing out to hit enemy karts Cons: None Item: Blue Shell Uses: Hitting an enemy in first place Cons: Tough to avoid Item: Fake Item Block Uses: Tricking people to hit them - it flips them over Cons: None Item: Mushroom Uses: Speed boost Cons: None Item: Triple Mushroom Uses: Speed boost x 3 Cons: None Item: Star Uses: Hitting people and various objects Passing through off-road with ease Cons: None Item: Lightning Uses: Shrinking enemies Cons: None ================== Character Specials ================== Item: Fireballs Uses: Flipping people Characters: Mario & Luigi Cons: Not as good as some other Character Specials Item: Giant Banana Uses: Spinning people out, which spawns three more regular bananas Characters: Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong Cons: Not very useful if you want to mess up someone quick Item: Heart Uses: Protection Obtaing items that were intended to hit them Characters: Daisy & Peach Cons: None Item: Triple Green/Red Shells Uses: Throwing out to hit enemy karts x 3 Characters: Koopa Troopa & Paratrooper Cons: None Item: Chain Chomp Uses: Knocking people out of the way Guiding you through the track Characters: Baby Mario & Baby Luigi Cons: The ride ends randomly, and can throw you off the track Item: Eggs Uses: Hitting enemies and spawing three more, as if they were dropped items Characters: Yoshi & Birdo Cons: None Item: Bowser's Shell Uses: Slamming karts as it rolls straight down the road (like a green shell) Characters: Bowser and Bowser Jr. Cons: None Item: Bob-Omb Uses: Blowing people up into the air Characters: Wario & Waluigi Cons: None Item: Golden Mushroom Uses: Speed Boosts as many times as you want as long as you have it Characters: Toad & Toadette Cons: None King Boo & Petey Piranha ------------------------ This pair has the ability to obtain any special item. * Birdo's Pink Egg and Luigi's Green Fireballs are excluded - they use both of those player's parter's colored egg/fireball. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` _ ________________________________________________________________ _ _| |_ _| |_ |_ _| 03.00 CHARCTERS & KARTS 03.00 |_ _| |_| ________________________________________________________________ |_| Each character has an appropriate partner in this installment, but that does not neccessarily mean that you NEED to use that pair - Definitely being a beginner's course, it still features the usual Luigi Circuit property: boost padded turns. For one thing, it's day time and there cars are easier to avoid. But anyway, it's a fun course. Hazards - The giant cars Tips - You can drive along the bridge's beams, which have boost pads and items. - You can take an alternate route by turing right imediately at the beginning of the lap.
