Game Information Title: Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg Platform: Gamecube Blocks: 2 Number of Players: 1-4 Simultaneous ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Version History Version 1.0 - Has all the Eggs in the FAQ. May be room for improvement in the guide. Version 1.01 - Minor changes including adding PwnGuide to the list of sites allowed to host my guide and other formatting changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Introduction (a) Getting Started In order to select Battle Mode, you, first, must acquire more than one controller and it must be connected in the appropriate socket on your Gamecube. Secondly, once Battle Mode initiates, each human player must select a character (Billy Hatcher, Rolly Roll, Chick Poacher, or Bantam Scrambled). Then, you must select the mode you would like to play, the goal required to achieve in order to win, and once you select an arena, the game will start and you can start battling your friends! (b) Learning the Basics Here are all the skills needed in Battle Mode: Rolling Eggs - In order to begin rolling an egg, approach an egg from an Egg Nest using the Control Stick and push towards it to take control. You can then run in any direction with the egg. Egg Jump - Whilst rolling an egg, press the A Button. You can also move whilst aloft by using the Control Stick. Egg Shoot - Press the B Button whilst controlling an egg. Egg Roll - Press the R Trigger whilst aloft. To stop rolling, let the egg come to a complete (or close to a complete stop) then press the A Button. Egg Dunk - Press the B Button whilst aloft. Egg Dash - Press the R Trigger whilst rolling an egg to increase your speed. Egg Driver - Hold down the A Button whilst aloft. Bounce Jump - Tap the A Button whilst aloft. Long Jump - Press the A Button during an Egg Dash. You can control how far you jump by using the Control Stick. Command Egg Animal - Press the X Button whilst an Animal is in your possession. Use Item - Press the Y Button whilst an item is in your possession. Lock-On - Hold the L Trigger to lock-on to a nearby opponent. Rotate Camera - Use the C Stick to control the camera. (c) Unlocking the Levels In order to unlock a level, with the exception of the two Forest Village arenas which are unlocked from the outset, you need to defeat the boss (or sometimes complete a mission like in the case of Giant Palace) in each level in Story Mode. For instance, to get the Pirates Island arena, you must beat the Boss of Forest Village, Era Gecko which is the 2nd Mission of the stage in Story Mode. Super Recky Descriptor: "It has the power of the rainbow!" Rarity: Extremely Rare Limit: 5 Damage: KO Range: Very Far Path: Zig-Zag Advantage: Excellent Rating: 5/5 Tips: -Using Super Recky on multiple opponents simultaneously will prove to be beneficial especially in Time Battle. -Use Super Recky wisely. A: Yes, you can, but look hard and find them before your opponents because they rarely appear. Q: Are there any secret characters to unlock? A: No, all the characters for Battle Mode are unlocked from the start. Q: Is it true that you can race and even play some of the Mini-Game Salesman's games in Battle Mode? A: That would've been an excellent touch, but no. Q: Do you have to find eggs in Story Mode to be able to use them in Story Mode? A: No, every single Egg (with the exception of the Chicken Suit and the Chicken Elder Eggs) can be found within Battle Mode whether you've discovered them in Story Mode or not. Q: Do some of the Crows appear in Battle Mode? A: No, you only battle with you and your friends. None of the Crows, the bosses, the Baby Chicks, or the Chicken Elders make an appearance in this mode. Q: Who is the best character to use? A: There isn't really a "best" character. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses but only when it comes to speed and it's not that much of a difference. Other than that, the characters are pretty much the same. Q: Does everyone have to select a different character or can there be two of each (for instance, two Billy's)? A: Everyone must select a different character than their opponents. Q: Have you yourself beaten the game? A: What does that have to do with this FAQ? Anyway, to answer your question, no, I am not done the game, in fact, I just got it recently and I only need 6 more emblems (including the four hidden ones). Q: How do you lock-on to opponents? A: By holding the L Trigger. Q: Which type of game is the most fun? A: To be honest, it depends on both your skill and the skill of your opponents. If your opponents are somewhat younger than you are, I'd suggest Hatch Battle but Survival is definitely the best for obvious reasons. Time Battle just isn't as fun. Q: What are the worst and the best levels in the game? A: It goes without saying that the first Forest Village level is the worst and, personally, I think that both Circus Park and Sand Ruin are equally great. Next would be Giant Palace. Q: Is it true that the Rooster Call can be used to attack your opponents? A: That is only partially true. Yes, it can be used to attack your enemies but it only stuns them and it doesn't make them lose any health (which is a good thing; using the Rooster Call as a means of decreasing someone's health would be very lame). Q: If you are using the Eggs alone, what is the best ability to use on your opponents? A: None of them. Egg Shoot, Dunk, Dash, Driver, and Bounce Jump all make your opponents lose only half of one full stock. Q: Can you find those "Egg Rings" inside Battle Mode? A: Yes. The blue Egg Ring can be found in Circus Park and Giant Palace whilst the Green Egg Ring (Trampoline) can be found in Circus Park and Sand Ruin. Q: Do all the animals inflict the same amount of damage? A: Look in the "Eggs" section for more information on that. Obviously, you missed it! Q: I heard that, in addition to the 8 levels, there has been a rumor going around that there is a 9th level that can be unlocked once you... A: Don't go any further. This rumor is false and there are only 8 levels to unlock. That's it! Q: Is it true that Battle Mode was originally the main idea behind Billy Hatcher? A: Well, that is only partly true. Yuji Naka stated in an interview with Nintendo Power that both Single and Multiplayer modes were given attention but Multiplayer was to be given more attention than Story. Q: What is with those Red Bandanas on the animals?! A: To tell you the truth, I'm trying to figure that out myself. Q: Did you notice any Goofs in the Manual? A: Yeah, I did. Refer to page 17 and view the second screenshot. It shows the Battle Mode menu. Look under the "Stage" section and you'll notice that Circus Park is unlocked, yet, there is still one level before it - Blizzard Castle - that has a question mark. This is a goof since you need to unlock Blizzard Castle before you can access Circus Park! Just an interesting note. Q: Why isn't there a Giant Egg at the Giant Palace? A: Don't ask me. How should I know? Besides, would it look very appealing for a Giant Egg to be aloft at the top of the stage? Then only the bottom part of the level would be accessible and that wouldn't be AS fun. 'Guess they didn't put it there for a reason. Q: What is the most common egg in the game? A: That's a tie between Peliwan and Clippen (and possibly Richie). Q: What is the hardest egg in the game to find? A: Super Recky without a doubt. I've only found him and Super Clippen twice each thus far. Super Clippen at the Giant Palace and Blizzard Castle whilst I found Super Recky at the first Forest Village level. Q: Do the Sonic Team Eggs come at a certain time in the game? A: From what I know, no. They come as about as random as any other egg in the game. Q: Can the GBA Eggs be used in Battle Mode? A: Is Sonic slow? Of course not! Honestly, what purpose would they serve? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 16. Best Eggs Here's a compiled list of the best eggs found in Battle Mode. Enjoy! Ideas (a) Eggs Some potential Eggs I thought of were : -Crow Eggs (Being able to hatch Crows as well) -"Fruit Magnet" (Nearby fruit comes to your Egg) -"Black Hole" (Sucks all nearby opponents in) -"Snail" (Makes everyone else go very slow) -"Moon" (Makes the level dark for everyone but you) -"Radio" (Once activated, can stun your opponent for 10 seconds) -"Ice Bomb (Once activated, freezes all opponents with ice for 10 seconds) -"Brick Wall" (Creates a brick wall around an egg Preventing your opponents from getting it) -"Ember Trap" (Creates a trap around an egg so that Flames must be cleared using a Water character to get the Egg) -Some Sort of "Combo Egg" where you can combine 2 Item Eggs and use them simultaneously (b) Modes A few ideas for other battle modes I thought of are: -Bowling (Maybe not...) -Crow Battle (Defeat Crows before Opponents) -Protect (Free the Elder without getting attacked by Opponents) -Coin Collect (Mini-Game Salesman Games) -Egg and Seek (Hatch a Randomly-Selected Egg; Hatch Specified Number to Win) -Team Battle (Tag Team against another) -Egg Race (Simply race to the Goal) -Bumper Eggs (Knock each other off the Edge) -Sudden Death (A whole new mode in which all opponents start off with half a comb left.) (c) Sonic Team Eggs A few Sonic Team characters they could've incorporated in the game could've been: -Amy (Okay, it would've worked) -Shadow (Not a bad idea; Chaos Control) -Aiai (Definitely would've been a GREAT idea) -Rouge? (What could she do...?) -Big? (Fishing Rod...uh....) -Cream? (Cheese...) -Gamma? (Lasers? That wouldn't go well...) (d) Miscellaneous A few good add-ons would've been: -Being able to adjust the Split Screen -Having to find the Chicken Suits before using the Eggs -Being able to use the Crows -Having to unlock Rolly, Chick and Bantam before being able to use them -Putting Egg Rails in some of the Levels ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 18. Thank You Thanks, first of all, goes out to SEGA for creating such a great game. You have my thanks! A follow-up to Billy Hatcher would probably please a lot of fans. That or including him in Sonic Riders. Second, thanks goes out to SEGA again for their manual for Billy Hatcher as it contained some info I used periodically for this guide. Thanks! Thanks to both my sister and my friend (you know who you are) for being patient with me whilst I took notes about the eggs during our battles. Thanks! Thanks to Chamelion for their exemplary guide which made things a little easier on me as far as the Descriptors for each Egg went as opposed to continuously going back to the game and/or writing them done which would be quite time-consuming. Thanks to YOU, also, for reading this guide. "Merci beaucoup" to all the above people. You helped make this guide possible. Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
