Your character can be moved in only four directions, up, down, left, and right, NOT diagonal. The directional pad also allows you to move the cursor on the menu screen. A Button -------- - On the World Screen, this button lets you search or talk to another character. The A button is also used in battle to make your character attack with the weapon he has equipped. - On the Menu Screen, the A button is used to execute the command that you have selected. B Button --------- - On the World Screen, the B button can be used to speed up a conversation between two characters. - On the Menu Screen, the B button can be used to cancel a command that has been selected or to exit a menu screen. Start ----- The Start button starts the game. It also brings up the Menu Screen. The Menu Screen is where you can check on your character's abilities, items, gold, equip items and use items. Select ------ The Select button opens up the Status screen. Here you can check on the parties HP, floor placement, and hearts. You also have the ability to increase or slow down the speed of the text messages, by selecting a text speed. Speed one is the fastest, and eight the slowest. The Status Screen may not be accessed during battle. ----------- Menu Screen ----------- This screen is accessed by pressing the A button. Use this screen to check you current ability levels, your gold, over all progress, equip your characters, and save your game. +-------------------------------------+ | | | | | +-------------------------------+ | | | Position 4F | | | | Maximum 4F | | | +-------------------------------+ | | | | | | | | +-------------------------------+ | | | Abil Item Equip | | | | Save 1356GP | | | +-------------------------------+ | | | +-------------------------------------+ Position & Maximum ------------------ The number next to "Position" shows the floor of the Tower that you are currently on. Below that is a number representing the maximum number of floors that your group has climbed. GP (Gold Piece) --------------- This number represents the total amount of gold that your party has. This is the total party's amount of gold, you can't divide this money in anyway among your party. Save ---- You may select this option by pressing the A button. Once you do this, another screen will appear asking you whether you want to save the game or not. Remember, once you save the game the information of the previous save is lost forever. It is a good idea to save the game as often as possible, since your party may be killed or your Gameboy batteries die! My batteries have run dead many times, so remember to save, save, and save. The more often you save, the less backtracking you will have to do if something goes wrong. Abil ---- This button allows you to evaluate your character's ability. Once you select this option another screen will pop up displaying your four characters. You may then use the directional pad to scroll to one of your characters. Then press the A button to access that characters ability sub-screen. Ability Sub-screen ------------------ +------------+ +---------+ | | 234 | Hammer 50 | | /354 | Rapier 34 | |Hero | Long 50 | |Str. 29 | Battle 21 | |Def. 12 | Gold - | |Agl. 11 | Bronze - | |Mana 0 | SMG 11 | +---------+ Gold - | | | +------------+ HP - Your character's current and maximum HP are shown in the upper- left corner of the screen, adjacent to your characters icon. On the above screen, the HP is signified by 234 / 354 HP. Name - Your character's name is displayed below your HP amount. On the above screen, your character's name would be where "Hero" is written. Str. - This displays your character's strength. The higher number, the greater your strength will be. The screen only displays a maximum of 99 strength, however, you may have may have up to 255 strength. Def. - This displays your character's current defense. The greater your rating, the less damage you will take. At this point in time, I am unsure whether you may have over 99 defense points. Agl. - This displays your character's agility. The higher number, the greater your agility will be. The screen only displays a maximum of 99 agility, however, you may have up to 255 agility. Mana - This displays your character's mana power. Mana determines the damage and power of the spells that you cast. Equipment - This list, to the far right, shows the equipment that your character is currently equipped with. Items ----- +--------+ | Slot 1 | | Slot 2 | | Slot 3 | | Slot 4 | | Slot 5 | | Slot 6 | | Slot 7 | | Slot 8 | | Trash | | Sphere | +--------+ This screen shows all the items that are carried by the party. These items are not the ones equipped by characters, but the items that your group carries. There are 8 slots available for items. Using an Item: To use an item, move your cursor over a desired item and press the A button. A finger will appear pointing to the item you clicked on. You now have the option of moving the item to a different slot, or using it on one of your characters. Up to this point, you may cancel by pressing the B button. Now you may move the item or use it on one of your characters. If your character is unable to use that specific item, a message will be displayed telling you this. Trash: To discard an item, first select that item by pressing the A button once. Then scroll down the item list until you reach the Trash Can. With the pointer over the Trash, press the A button again. Spheres: To use a Sphere, scroll down to the bottom of your item list. Then press the A button, which will open a new screen that shows any of the Spheres you currently have. Then move your cursor over the desired Sphere and press the A button. Equip ----- When you see weapons or armor in your item list, it doesn't mean you have equipped them already! You must use the equip command to move any weapons, armor, or items, into your characters own inventory. Once the items are in your characters inventory, you can use them in battle when needed. ------------- Status Screen ------------- To access this screen, press the Select button. +-------------------------+ | Alter Order Hearts | | Name 1 100/130 | | Hearts | | Name 2 201/230 | | Hearts | | Name 3 67/280 | | Hearts | | Name 4 134/236 | | Speed | | 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 | +-------------------------+ HP - Your current and maximum HP are displayed on the right side. Hearts - This shows how many hearts you have remaining. If character runs out of Hearts and then dies, he/she must be revived. If your character still has Hearts remaining, you may restore that character at the House of Life for a 100 GP fee. However, each time you do this, one of your hearts will be removed. Name * - This is where your character's names are displayed. This screen also allows you to rearrange the order of your characters. The character that is first will receive a majority of the attacks, and the character that is last the fewest enemy attacks. To change the order of your characters order, first move the cursor to one of the characters you want to move. Then press the A button, which will then cause a "finger pointer" to appear. Then move this new pointer to the character you want to change with and press the A button. Speed - By selecting different numbers, you may change the speed of the text messages here. The fastest speed is 1 and the slowest 8. ------------------ Game Tutorial ------------------ Beginning the Game ------------------ When you begin the game you will notice that you have only one character in your group. How do you remedy this situation? Well, go north into town and talk to the Guild Member. The Guild Member is the person behind the counter next to the Inn Keeper. The Guild Member will ask you "Who." You now have a chance to recruit group members. Move your control pad down to the selected character and press the A button. You now have the opportunity to name your character. Repeat this process until you have recruited a full group. For tips and suggestions on what type of party to recruit, please look at the end of the Character section of this walkthrough. Battle ------ As you walk around in the Overworld you will encounter enemies. Once you meet an enemy, a screen that will pop up, giving you two options...to Fight or Run. If you try to run, only one party member attempts to run, yet if he succeeds or fails, your entire group will do the same. If you fail, all the monsters will get a round to attack you. If you select Fight, you will have the option to attack with whatever weapons or items you possess. Once you select an item or weapon, the game will ask you which group of monsters you wish to attack. Many times you will encounter multiple enemies in a group. If any of your characters choose to attack that group, they will continue to attack the same monster until it is destroyed. Then when you attack again, your characters will attack the next monster until it is destroyed before moving on to the next enemy. The exception to this rule is if your character(s) is/are using a weapon that attacks all the monsters in a group, or even multiple groups. Victory: Once victory is achieved, you will receive gold, and possibly a piece of meat. If you have a Monster, you will have the option of eating the meat. Recovering HP: Throughout the game there will be times when it is necessary to restore your group's HP. This can be done at an Inn, where it costs 1 GP for every 1 HP restored. Remember, if you can't pay the full amount, you won't be able to restore any of your character's HP. Besides going to the Inn, you also have the option of restoring your character's HP with restorative items, or at a Healing Fountain. Death: If one of your characters dies, you may restore his life for the price of 100 GP at a House of Life. However, every time this is done, a Heart will be removed from your character. Each character starts out with 3 Hearts in a game. If you run out of Hearts, you will either need to purchase a Revive, or get a new character at the Guild. Weapons ------- Weapons, (with the exception of some,) have a limited number of uses. Therefore it is very important that your characters have enough weapons to get them through their various quests. Remember, there is no way to equip weapons in the middle of a fight. Accordingly, I suggest that you buy extra weapons while you are in town. There are some weapons that have unlimited uses. These weapons will have a "-" where the number would usually appear. Later on in the game you will have the opportunity to purchase an item, (Arcane) which can restore your weapons back to their full amount of uses. This is particularly useful with such powerful weapons like the Glass Sword, Masmune, and Excalibur. *** There are three different main categories of weapons, Melee, Ranged, and Skill weapons. Melee Weapons: These weapons are categorized based on the fact that they are hand-to-hand type of weapons. The amount of damage that can be done with these weapons is related to your characters strength, agility, mana, or a combination of those attributes. Melee weapons are a very important part of the game, and critical for your success. Examples of melee weapons are Swords, Rapiers, Hammers, Axes and Whips. Strength Based Weapons: Axes, Hammers, and Swords (except for the P-Sword and P-Knife) Agility Based Weapons: Rapiers, Sabers, Projectile weapons, Whips and the Saw Mana Based Weapons: P-Sword, P-Knife, Vampic Sword Ranged Weapons: This type of weapon is fired at monsters. Examples of ranged weapons are Bows and Missiles. The damage that these weapons deal to enemies is based on a number of factors. First, whether you hit the monster itself is based on something called the "Rate of Success." This factor is determined by your agility and how many times you have used that weapon. In almost all the cases, the more you use the weapon, the more likely you are to succeed with it. The amount of damage dealt for most projectile weapons is based on your agility. These weapons are great for attacking monsters with high Defense, or monsters that have protective "coatings," like P-Skin. Skill Weapons: As you progress further along in the game, you will have the option of buying skill weapons. These skills deal limited damage when you begin to use them, but as you use them more times, your proficiency with them will increase. As you become more proficient with skills, the amount of damage you deal with them will increase drastically. The last use of a skill is the most powerful Some weapons have special powers. I have listed these powers next to the individual weapons in my Weapon section of the walkthrough. ------------ Magic Spells ------------ Spells may either be combative or non-combative. Magic Spells may work on multiple enemies' or/and multiple groups depending upon the spell. Attack Spells -These elemental spells directly damage enemies. Examples of these spells would be Elec, Fire, Ice, etc. Non-Combative Spells - These spells do no physical damage, but they incapacitate the enemy. An example of this type of spell would be Sleep. Healing Spells - These spells help restore back your lost HP. An example of this type of spell would be Cure. ---------------------------- Special Skills and Abilities ---------------------------- X's and O's - When you are looking at your Mutant's or Monster's abilities, you might notice that they have a XFire, or OIce. If there is a letter "X" next to word, it means that you are weak against that attack. For example, if you have XFire, you will be weak against enemies who use fire-based spells on you. If there is an "O" next to the word, it means that you are strong against that attack. For example, if you have OIce, you will be strong against enemies who use ice-based spells on that character. Direct Attacks - Monsters often have attacks unlike those of Humans. They have attacks like Fin, Horn, etc., which may often deal more damage than weapons or magic. However, these attacks can only hit one monster at a time. These attacks can be restored, just like Mutant's abilities can, by going to an Inn. Ranged Attacks - These attacks will work on multiple enemies and possibly even multiple enemy groups. These attacks are very powerful and will helpful you throughout your journey. Examples of these types of attacks would be Elec, Gas, Quake, Tornado, etc. Lethal Attacks - These types of skills, D-Fangs, Petrify, etc., have the power to kill an enemy in a single blow. Enhancing Party Abilities - These types of skills, Mirror, Power, Armor, etc., have the ability to temporarily boost the attributes of your caster. Spells like Barrier will even temporarily increase the defense of your entire group. Decreasing Enemy Abilities - These types of skills, Stench, Drain, Web, etc., do not deal physical damage to an enemy. Instead, they will reduce an enemy's ability, which will then decrease the monsters ability to deal damage to your characters. Non-Combative Skills - These types of skills, P-Fangs, Sl-Gaze, Flash, etc., are used to incapacitate or damage your enemy. As you play the game, you will become more comfortable using attacks such as these. Waiting Skills - These types of skills, P-Skin, S-Skin, etc., are what I call "waiting" skills. They do no direct physical damage to your enemies. Instead, they only damage your enemy when he attacks your character. Parasitic Skills - These types of attacks will drain the HP from an enemy. These skills can be very deadly as the game progresses. Healing Skills - These types of skills, Heal, Honey, Cure, etc., will restore HP to the caster, or even the entire group. Some of these skills may even bring a dead character back to life! In my opinion, these skills are some of the most valuable in the game. ======================================================================= 3. Characters ======================================================================= There are many different "races" of characters for you to choose from when you are creating your group. The different races in this game are Human, Mutant, and Monster. Furthermore, you may also choose either a Male or Female member from the Human or Mutant race. Each of these races has certain advantages and disadvantages over the other. These differences are based mainly on how each race develops as you progress in the game. The following is a comprehensive list of how the different races develop as you play the game. I will then give "my advice" on what I think the best groups are. ------ HUMANS ====== Humans are the most well-rounded and versatile race. They also have the possibility of becoming the most powerful characters by the end of the game. The main difference between Humans and the other races is that Humans do not get stronger as a result of battle. Instead, you need to buy items that will increase their attributes. There are five different items in the game that will permanently improve the attributes of Humans. These five items are Agility Potions, Strength Potions, HP200, HP400, and HP600. On a side note, there are some types of armor that will increase your Humans attributes. However, once you unequip that piece of armor, you Humans attributes will return back to its previous value. HP Items (200, 400, 600) ------------------------ You may use the Items to permanently increase your Humans HP. Each of these Potions cost a different amount, but in general, they all have the same type of effect. HP200: This Item costs 100 GP, and raises a Human's HP, ranging from a 1-20 point increase. However, once your Human has over 200 HP, your HP will raise by only 1 point. HP400: This Item costs 1000 GP, and raises a Human's HP, ranging from a 1-20 point increase. However, once your Human has over 400 HP, your HP will raise by only 1 point. HP400: This Item costs 5000 GP, and raises a Human's HP, ranging from a 1-20 point increase. However, once your Human has over 600 HP, your HP will raise by only 1 point. If you have any Human characters, it is essential that you use these items to boost your HP. However, since these items are very costly, you may not be able to buy as many of these as you like. Luckily, there are a few "tricks" that will help you save money. 1. Before you use your HP items, save your game. Since the amount of HP that you gain is variable, you can restart your game if you do not get an increase your HP by a decent amount. I recommend trying to get at least a 13 point increase when you use an HP*00 item. 2. If you compare the price and HP increase rate of HP600 and HP200, you will realize that HP600 is not worth your money. It costs less money to buy HP200 and use them to gain a 1 point HP increase, then to spend 5000 GP and only get a maximum of 20 HP increase with the HP600. However, this approach is fairly time consuming so you still might want to consider buying HP600 if you are a lot of gold. 3. Another trick is for you to reach a HP amount just before that specific HP items limit, such as you are using a HP400 item and you reach an HP amount of 399. Then, when you use the Item for the last time, you will get an increase over that items limit. Now if you use HP400 again, your HP has the potential to be 419HP. I have received many questions inquiring about what the maximum HP value is for a Human. My reply is that it is NOT 999 like you screen will display. The limit for HP is much higher, although the screen will not display any values over 999. Personally, I have raised my HP over 2000 points! However, this requires a lot of time, since once you get above 600 HP, you can only increase your HP 1 point at a time. Strength and Agility -------------------- To increase these attributes, you need to use Strength and Agility Potions. Each of these potions costs 300 GP to purchase. They will raise the particular attribute by 2 points. These stats will reach a maximum at 255, although only 99 will be displayed. However, once you are over 99 points you must be CAREFUL. If use another of these attribute-raising Potions and it raises you over the maximum 255 attribute point limit, your Strength or Agility will reset back to 1! If you are unsure whether you will raise it over 255 points, save your game before you use the potion. On the other hand, make sure you that if you are using attribute-raising potions that you don't save your game while your attribute has been unknowingly reset back to 1. You will be quite amazed at the amount of damage your Humans can deal once they have their Strength and Agility around 255. I recommend increasing your Agility stats in the beginning of the game. This is because Agility also affects the your "hit rate" percentage. Many of the Agility based weapons are also cheaper than their counterpart Strength based weapons. Later on in the game you will want to work on Strength because at the end of the game, the most powerful weapons are Strength based. Weapons and Armor ---------------- The best advantage of a Human over any other character is that they can hold up to 8 Items. This is a huge advantage, since Armor alone may take up to 5 slots! Armor: My first task when I walk into a new town is to look for any better armor than what my characters currently have equipped. Armor is the only way to raise your Human's Defense, so it is necessary to get the "best" armor you can. I write "best" in quotations, because the best armor is not always the one that gives you the most defense points. I recommend looking in the Armor section of this walkthrough to determine what Armor is best for you. Another important aspect is that some armor boosts your character's attributes or may give your character a resistance to a type of magic element (fire, ice, etc.) *** If you are already at the maximum strength or agility (255), equipping a piece of armor that boosts that specific stat will temporarily reset that stat back to ~1, until you unequip that armor. Shields: In my opinion, Shields are the most useless type of defense armor you can buy. The first disadvantage about Shields, is that they are not used automatically, but instead must be used during your turn before the enemy attacks. Shields have two main uses. The first use is that when you use a shield, you increase the chance that your character will evade the enemy attack. The second use is that some shields may place a protective barrier over your party for the turn that it is used. These barriers will often protect your group from certain spells. However, your character must use the shield before the attack, otherwise it will not have the protective barrier in place when the enemy attacks. Therefore, I suggest putting your character with the highest agility in front, this way that character has a higher percentage of using the Shield before the enemy attacks. Weapons: As I have noted in other sections, there are different types of weapons. There are strength, agility, and mana based weapons. There are also projectile weapons, which use a combination of factors to determine damage. Early on in a game, I prefer to focus on agility, since not only does it affect just agility-based weapons, but also projectile weapons, and the percentage that you will hit your enemy. I recommend buying the Rapiers in the first world and then Sabers in the second world. My characters are still sometimes using Sabers in the third world, since they are effective and a whole lot cheaper than the newer weapons. Later on in the game, I switch to Strength based weapons, since these will be your most powerful weapons. Examples of these weapons are the Defense, Sun, Glass, and Excalibur swords. The most powerful weapon is the Glass sword, then followed by the Sun Sword. I have listed the particular benefits of all the weapons in the Weapons section of this walkthrough. Spells: I do not recommend equipping your characters with Spell Books. This is because Humans aren't meant to use spells. Later on in the game when you get the Shoe, your Mana will increase by 10 points, but even then your Humans will not be good at casting spells. Potions: If you have some extra slots, you might want to consider equipping a X-Potion, Elixir, or a Revive. Other than that, I would just equip weapons and armor. ------- Mutants ======= Mutants are unlike any of your other races because their stats improve from battles. They also have 4 of their slots blocked off for special mutant abilities. Since they only have 4 slots for armor, weapons and spells, you are often forced with the difficult choice of selecting the appropriate items, weapons, and armor. Stats ----- Mutant's stats increase only at the end of battles. By now, you might be wondering about the specific mechanism determining their rate or type of increase. Your mutant's stats will most likely increase depending upon what type of weapon or magic you are using. For example, your strength might go up after you used a strength-based weapon, a Hammer, in battle. The amount that a stat may raise, if anything at all, is variable. The more successful you are with your weapon, the more likely your stats will go up. There are rare occasions where you will use one type of weapon, and have another unexpected stat increase. What also seems to help is using new and different weapons. This will often help to "kick start" your attribute raising if has become stagnant. Your stats also seem to have a greater percentage of increasing during the initial usage and the final usages of your weapons. By this I mean if you had a Hammer, you might better expect your stats to increase during the first 10 and the last 10 usages of that weapon. The following is a guide on how to boost each specific type of attributes for your Mutant. HP: Mutants will gain HP from battle, and as far as I can tell, this increase in HP is random. If anything, having your Mutant sustain damage will help boost your max HP. Therefore, if you are trying to your increase your Mutants HP, I would put him in the front. By the end of the game, your Mutant may have around 800 HP, or even 999 HP. Unlike humans, your Mutants may only get 999 HP, and not any higher. Strength: Mutants gain Strength as a result of using a strength-based weapon in battle. While this is random, as I noted above, it is likely that your stats have a greater percentage of increasing during the initial usage and the final usages of your weapons. By this I mean if you had a Hammer, you might better expect your stats to increase during the first 10 and the last 10 usages of that weapon. Unlike Humans, you may not gain more then 99 strength. Agility: Mutant's gain agility as a result of using a agility-based weapon in battle. While this is random, as I noted above, it is likely that your stats have a greater percentage of increasing during the initial usage and the final usages of your weapons. By this I mean if you had a Rapier, you might better expect your stats to increase during the first 10 and the last 10 usages of that weapon. Unlike Humans, you may not gain more then 99 agility. Defense: Mutants may also gain defense from battle. This is the hardest stat to increase. The attribute will increase when your character sustains damage. This attribute is similar to how you would increase your HP stats. Therefore, if you are trying to your increase your Mutants defense, I would put him in the front. In my opinion, this is the most important attribute that you can increase. Mana: Mutants may gain Mana as a result of using Spells or Mana based weapons, i.e. the P-Sword, in battle. Besides defense, this is the best stat you could increase since the reason you have a Mutant in your group is so that you can use Magic. Similar to the other attributes of Mutants, you cannot gain over 99 Mana. The most powerful purchasable weapon for the Mutant is the P-Sword. Mutants start the game with four slots for Abilities. Abilities will randomly change as battle enemies. If you lose an ability that you really like, I recommend restarting the game so that you still have that specific ability. I am not quite sure exactly how the Abilities change, but they are more likely to change if you use them in battle, and when you use all of that specific ability up. Therefore, the best thing you can do to improve your Mutants is to fight in a lot of battles. It is possible to have a super powerful Mutant at the end of the first world if you are patient. The most important thing about Mutants is to get the best abilities possible. I recommend having a couple of attack abilities, a healing ability, and a miscellaneous ability, (Power, Kinesis, etc.) The list of abilities that a Mutant can gain is listed further on in the walkthrough. Mutant abilities may be restored to there maximum number of uses at the Inn free of charge. Weapons, Armor, and Spell Books ------------------------------- Mutants only have four slots for equipment. This means you have to decide what are the best items for you to buy knowing that you only have four slots available. However, Mutants also have four abilities, so they don't always need as many weapons as Humans might. For most of the game, I recommend having two of your slots filled with the most powerful pieces of armor you can buy. At the end of the game you should buy the Power Armor, which will leave the other armor slot empty for something else. If you are lacking in any desired abilities, you have the option of using one of the slots for a Spell Book. However, I recommend using your abilities first, since they are powerful and free. The most common spell books I have equipped with my Mutant are some type of attack spell, (Fire, Ice, Elec, Flare, Stone) or a restorative spell, Cure. Try to rely on using your abilities, and not your Spell Books, since this will leave another slot open for other things. The Flare Spell is the most powerful spell a Mutant can have in the game, so you might want to consider equipping that Spell Book at the end of the game. I do not recommend ever equipping your Mutant with a Shield or a Potion. I think that this would be a waste of a badly needed slot. Your Humans have double the available slots as a Mutant, so it would make more sense to equip them with a Shield or Potion. Any other available slots that you have should be filled with weapons. I usually give my Mutant a Rapier or Saber early on in the game to develop his/her agility. Then, I will usually switch to a Mana-based weapon, like the Psi-Knife, or Psi-Sword. I think that these are the best swords money can buy for your Mutants. Other possible weapons that you might want to consider equipping your Mutant with are the Vampic Sword or the Defense Sword. These swords have special powers that will help your Mutant. If you still have any open slots, you may equip your Mutant with a projectile type weapon, such as a Nuke, Missile, or Rocket. -------- Monsters ======== In my opinion, Monsters are the weakest of your characters, especially early on in the game. Towards the end of the game they become more equal with your other characters, but they are still not as strong. However, monsters are the most "fun" characters because they can change into other monsters depending on what meat they eat. This transformation can be good or bad depending on what monster you change into. The meat of Boss monsters is often very powerful and will increase your monsters level. As you progress through the game, you will notice that there are different categories of monsters. At different points in the game, like when you eat a Boss's meat, you may jump to a higher level or category of monsters. An example of this would be instead of changing to a Dragon 3, you will change to a Dragon 4. These changes often go across the entire spectrum of monsters. Occasionally it is possible to decrease a monster level, especially early on in the game. However, near the end of the game it is nearly impossible to decrease your monsters level. If you plan on having a monster in your group, I highly recommend looking at the monster charts and monster transformation table at the end of this walkthrough. This will help you as you try and find your best monster. In my opinion, the best monsters to have at the end of the game are Ki-Rin, Lich, or Susano-O. *** Many people have asked me what is the best group of characters to have during the game. Potentially, the most powerful group in the game is a group of 4 Humans, the weakest group 4 Monsters. If this is your first time playing this game, I recommend having a group of 2 Humans, 1 Mutant, and 1 Monster. This group is very well rounded and you will be able to experience all of the aspects of each race. Final Fantasy Legend I also allows you to mix and match all of the different races, depending upon whether you want fun, a challenge, or just to beat the crap out of the game. ======================================================================= 4. Walkthrough ======================================================================= I have divided my walkthrough into different sections to make it easier for the readier to follow. The first major division I have made is that I have divided the Walkthrough up into different Worlds. I then separated these Worlds into different parts, based upon the certain necessary or interesting steps that you must advance through to beat the game. The numbers that I have before the subject headings designate certain places. The first number (4), represents the exact section of the walkthrough. The second number (1,2,3,4), represents what World this section is located in. The last number represents what major part or step of the World you are currently in. To the right side of each subject heading I have listed what Items can be found by following the steps listed below that certain part of the walkthrough. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- World 1 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.1 Base Town - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you start a new game you have the option of choosing what character you would like to begin with. For more information on choosing characters, refer to the tutorial and guide section of this FAQ/Walkthrough. Your character will appear at the entrance to a town. Before you do anything else, you should go to the Guild and recruit 3 other party members. Walk directly north from your starting point into the building and talk to the human female (to the right of the octopus person). Once you have your party, your next step is to outfit them for battle. Walk northeast and talk to the person on left behind the counter. If you began with a Human or Mutant female, unequip the Saber and sell it for money. Otherwise, you will need to go outside the town and fight until you have gained enough gold. Once you have enough money, buy Rapiers for every possible character. Not only are they cheap, but also in my opinion, they are best weapons to begin with. Then keep on fighting outside the town until you have enough money to buy Gold Armor and Gold Gauntlets for your party members. Remember, Monster type party members cannot equip armor or weapons! The defense points the Gold armor gives to your characters will really help you once you begin to fight harder enemies. At this stage in the game, it is also very important to plan ahead on how you would like to develop your Mutant. For information regarding this refer to the Tutorial and Guide section of this walkthrough. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.2 Town of Hero - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Exit Base Town and walk northeast. Go across the bridge and start walking south. Walk a little bit east, and keep on going south until you reach the Town of Hero. In general, it is very important that you to talk to the people you see in town because they give you great advice about the surrounding areas. I personally think that talking to townspeople also enhances the "game- play" aspect of the game. If you do talk to the people, you will learn that in order to get into the Tower, which is located in the center of Base Town, the statue in the middle of town must have the King Sword, Armor, and Shield. Each of these items is in the possession of a different king. Your mission now is to find and gather all three pieces of equipment. Before you leave town, make sure that you buy a couple of Bows, because you will need them in your journey to get the King Armor! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.3 Castle of Armor - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This step is not necessary, but adds to the storyline. If you wish to continue on with your journey and skip this part, follow the directions in the section below 4.1.4 (South Town) From the Town of Hero, walk northeast through the forest and past the castle. Continue walking northeast until you see a lake to your right. Then walk north and follow the water west. Walk across the bridge and go east into the castle. * Floor 1 * Walk north through the main section of the castle, and then go northeast. Walk across the bridge and go up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Work your way through the twisty passages and go into the room in the southwest corner of the screen. Walk north and talk to the King. The King says that he wants to marry a girl in South Village, but she won't consent to marry him! Hmmm, that sounds suspicious... what girl wouldn't want to marry a rich and powerful King. J/K ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.4 South Town - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Exit the Castle of Armor and go back across the bridge. Now walk southeast through a forest until you see some streams. Walk south across the bridges and into South Town. There are no real necessary items to buy in this town. Once you are done looking around, go to the northwest corner of town and talk to the Girl standing in a corner of trees. (She is standing below the person from the House of Life) The Girl says that she wants to marry the King, but the Bandit King is threatening to destroy her town if she doesn't marry him. This situation just gets more and more complicated! Exit the town and walk southwest across some more bridges. Walk around the mini- lake, and go into the Bandit Cave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.5 Bandit Cave - Potion (x3), Strong (x1), Bronze Shield (x50) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * Floor 1 * Take a couple of steps east and follow the passageway as it curves to the northwest. Walk south and go down the stairs to the next floor. (If you bump into or talk to any of the monsters, you will get into a fight) * B-Floor 2 * Go west until you reach the wall, and then walk south until you see a door. Go through the door and follow the passageway until you see the Bandit King. Save your game and then talk to him. After a nice little chat with the Bandit King, you eventually get down to business. _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Bandit King (P-Frog) HP: 82 GP: 120 Attacks: Bite, P-Skin Weakness: Ice Strength: None Strategy: The only difficulty in fighting the Bandit King is that he has a "special coating" on his skin. This coating will poison any party member who deals damage to him with a hand-held weapon. Luckily for you, those Bows that you bought at the Town of Hero will let you attack the Bandit King without getting poisoned! _______________________________________________________________________ After you win the battle, the Bandit King will plead for mercy. However, your party is guided by a hard code of justice and your character kills the Bandit King. Now that you have killed the Bandit King, all the doors in the cave are open. So, backtrack through the passage, through the door, and back into the large room. Walk to the northeast corner of the room and go through the door. Open the chests for a Potion, Strong, and a Bronze Shield. Once you have done this you may exit the cave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.6 Castle of Armor (Revisited) - King Armor ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you are outside walk back to South Town and talk to the Girl. Then, walk north to the Castle of Armor and go up to the second floor. Now talk to the King and he will give you the King Armor! Exit the Castle of Armor. If you want, you may equip the King Armor, which will greatly increase your defense by 20 Defense. Otherwise you can store it in your inventory for further use, or you may put it on the statue in the Town of Hero. To put the armor back on the statue, face the statue and click on the King Armor twice. The armor will disappear from your list and be put back onto the statue. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.7 Castle of Sword - King Sword ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk back to the Town of Hero, and restock on whatever items and weapons you need. I would also recommend buying the Magic Spell Book of Fire since it will prove to be very valuable in your next quest. Exit the town and go northwest along the mountains. Keep on going northwest until you see a narrow path going through the mountains. Follow the path as it twists and turns to the southeast and eventually you will see a bridge. Cross that bridge and continue going southeast. Eventually you will cross another bridge and be on marshy terrain. Walk north across the marsh and into the Castle of Sword! The enemies in this castle are much more powerful then any you have fought before. Also, while you are in this castle, make sure you don't talk to the people wandering around. If you do talk to one of the people, monsters will attack! Once you get onto the second floor, some of the monsters will even attack in groups of 4 or 5. This is an excellent opportunity to have your Mutant use the Fire Spell. If your Mutant has managed to raise his/her mana attribute significantly, you may be able to defeat the entire group with one spell! * Floor 1 * The layout of this floor is similar to a maze. To reach the next floor, walk up the stairs in the center of the floor. If you are having trouble finding the stairs follow these instructions. From the entrance of the castle walk north, and at the fork take the west path. Follow the path, and at the first intersection take the path going east and then walk north. Keep on walking and at the next intersection go south, then southeast, and walk up the stairs to your left. * Floor 2 * Walk northeast out of the smaller room. Then walk south, then west, and then up the stairs. (The stairs to the north lead to a dead end). Go north and save your game before you talk to the King. With a name like King Sword, you can guess that this is going to be a difficult battle! When you talk to the King, he says that you must defeat him first if you want the King Sword. Is that a challenge? ;) _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: King Sword HP: 100 GP: 240 Attacks: KingSword Weakness: Unknown Strength: Unknown Strategy: This is a difficult battle because King Sword has a very powerful attack that deals around 25HP damage to a character. I recommend using not only your best weapons, but also some attack Spells. This lethal combination will be enough to take down King Sword. _______________________________________________________________________ Once King Sword has been defeated equip his sword with your strongest character. It has unlimited uses and is the most powerful sword you can get at this time. Now exit the Castle of Sword ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.8 Castle of Shield - King Shield ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now walk back to the Castle of Shield, which is the castle to the immediate east of the Town of Hero. While you are walking around don't talk to any of the people, because they will eject you from the castle. * Floor 1 * Walk into the castle and go west and up the stairs * Floor 2 * Walk north to meet the King. However, once you are there, you find the King is not so willing... or should I say "able" to talk. You catch the Steward red-handed and the King dead on his throne. Not only that, but the Steward is going to place the blame on you! You will then be attacked by some combination of Skeletons and/or Asigarus. Once you have won the battle the Steward leaves via a hidden passageway. Walk through the secret entrance, which is the second space of the wall to the right of the throne. Follow the passage counterclockwise and go down the stairs. * Floor 1 * Save your game, walk north and talk to the Steward _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Steward HP: 20-25 GP: 400 Attacks: Colt Weakness: Unknown Strength: Unknown Strategy: The Steward is easiest battle you will ever fight in this game. He has extremely low HP and defense which means that this fight in definitely in your favor. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Steward is defeated you will get the King Shield. Exit the castle by walking north and then walk to the Town of Hero. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.9 The Statue of Hero - Black Sphere (#1) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- By now you should have all of the King Equipment. All you have to do now is put the equipment onto the statue. But before you do this, make sure all your characters are ready for a battle, because the one coming up will be your toughest yet! Walk to the statue in the middle of the town and unequip all of your King items. Then put them on the statue by double clicking on the King items in the item screen. Once you are finished you will receive the Sphere that will unlock the door to the Tower. Just when you attempt to leave, the monster Gen-Bu will attack you. _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Gen-Bu HP: 230-240 GP: 900 Attacks: Tusk, Gas, Shell Weakness: Unknown Strength: Unknown Strategy: This battle can be difficult if you have weak characters. Gen-Bu's Tusk and Gas attack are fairly powerful and will deal about 25 HP damage to a character. Besides using Gas and Tusk, Gen-Bu can also use Shell, which reduces the damage you deal to him by half. _______________________________________________________________________ Once Gen-Bu is defeated go back to Base Town. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1.10 Tower - Colt (x30) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Before going into the Tower, finish powering up your characters because this journey will be long and hard. Once you are ready, go to the Tower door and search it. You get a message saying that the door is locked by the power of Sphere. Go to your Item list and move your cursor down to the Item "Sphere". Press the A button on Sphere and you a small screen will pop up on your screen. Press the A button on the Sphere, and the door will open. Now walk into the Tower. By now, you might start to be feeling a little scared, but remember; this is just a game... * Floor 1 * Walk north up the steps and through the door. * Floor 2 * Now walk south until the path splits. Take the path going west; follow it clockwise and go through the door. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 3 * Walk west and at the fork go north. (If you keep on going west, you will find a door that leads to a small side-world. Within there is a large room with a small town and a healing fountain. As you climb the through the Tower, there will often be side-worlds. None of these little worlds are necessary to explore, but I feel that they do add to the game-play). After turning north at the fork, follow the path and at the next fork go west and then through the door. Go north up the steps and through the door. * Floor 4 * Now walk north to the fork and then go west to the intersection. Walk north and through the door to continue with your journey. (If you go west at the previous intersection you will find another fork, with a healing spring to the north, and a side-world with a torture room to the south. This world has the Gargoyles as masters and the human as slaves). The room to your west has a treasure chest with a Colt inside. Walk up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 5 * If you walk south you will find the door that leads to the next floor. However, to open this door you need another Sphere that is found in the next World. The door to this new World is in the northwest corner of this room. Talk to the man in the black hat below the door and he tells you to "Look for the Old Man." In the southwest corner of this floor there is a healing spring. Go through the door and you will emerge outside... into the Ocean World. Woohoo!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- World 2 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.1 Port Town - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk southeast across the island and go into the town. I would definitely recommend that you buy some Gold Helmets for your Human's and possibly your Mutant. You might also want to buy some upgrades for your Humans, (Strong and Agility Potions). The HP 400's are very expensive, but it's your money. If you talk to the townspeople you will find out that this is an Ocean World. This means that you need to find a "ship," otherwise you are never going to get off this island! So, to find your new "ship", exit the town, go north, and walk into the cave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.2 Underwater Caves - "Floating Island" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * B-Floor 1 * Walk east and follow the path to the intersection. Then go east, walk past the stairs, and keep on following the path. Follow the path north and then go up the stairs. You are now on a new island. Any of the other stairs you passed led to "dead-end" islands. Walk northeast and into the new cave. * B-Floor 1 * Walk along the path going west and follow it to the intersection. Then walk east and keep on following the east path as far as it goes. Then walk north and up the stairs. If you look to the west side of the island you will see two islands that attached to the land. Now walk onto the top island of the two. This island not only floats, but can also move around in the ocean! To go back onto land, just move the control pad in the direction of the island and press the "A" button. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.3 East Island Village - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that you are able to go across the ocean you can reach a new town. Sail northeast past some small islands and eventually you will reach a big island with forests. The town is on the southeast corner of the island. This town sells new and expensive Weapons and Armor. Now would be an excellent time to fight and earn some gold. Yes, I do know that fighting can be boring at times, but it IS an integral part of Role- Playing Games. While you are in town, make sure that you buy the Silver Armor and Helmet. If you look in my Armor section of the walkthrough, you will notice that the Silver Armor and Helmet boost your Defense points by quite a bit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.4 South Island (Old Man's Island ) - Airseed ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you talked to the town's people you will have heard them tell you "not" to talk to the man living on an island to the south. However, this is exactly who you need to talk with. To get to this island hop onto your "boat" and go directly south from East Island Village. South Island is quite small and has a hut on its center. To reach the Old Man you have to go through a maze. So, follow the path east and walk past the first intersection. Then, at the second intersection go north and walk to second intersection of this path. Walk west until you are stopped by the trees and then go north. If you look to the right of the Old Man you will see a sandy patch of ground, which has the ability to warp you out of the Old Man's hut. Talk to the Old Man and he says "The Airseed is on the palm tree in the center." Now that you have this useful piece of information you can exit the island From South Island, where the Old Man's Hut is located, sail south to a large island. Dock your boat and walk south to the palm tree that is surrounded by forest. Now stand before the Palm Tree, it doesn't matter which side. (Remember to stand FACING it, NOT on it! Now search the palm tree using the "A" button, and you will get the Airseed. This palm tree has unlimited Airseeds, which means that if you want, you can fill up your inventory with them. (Not that you need more than one). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.5 Underwater Town - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that you have the Airseed you can breathe underwater! However, before you can go underwater you will need to find the whirlpool that will suck you under the ocean. The whirlpool is located in the northwest area of this world. Once you see the whirlpool move your boat onto it and you will be sucked underneath the waves. The only disadvantage to being underwater is that you have to leave your boat behind. Get off you boat and start walking south. As soon as you see the "seaweed" on the ground walk east as soon as possible. Eventually you will come to a town! If you talk to the townspeople you will find out the location of the Red and Blue Orbs. When both of these Orbs are combined, they will form Sphere (#2). Buy whatever you like from the stores, and once you are ready to continue your journey, exit the town. If you want you may also sell the Airseed while in town because you no longer need it, and it will just take up room in your inventory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.6 Sea Castle - Blue Key, Silver Armor, Cure Spell (x30), Grenade (x20), Red Orb ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Your next mission is to find the Red Orb, which is found in the Sea Castle. From Underwater Town walk south until you see a pair of descending stairs on the left-hand side of your screen. Walk down the stairs and into a cave. * Floor 1 * Walk east and follow the passage way as it loops around. Once you get to the end go down the stairs. * Floor 2 * Now walk west and you will see lots of narrow passages going north. Walk north up the fourth passage. (The seventh passage leads to empty landmass with clouds.) Eventually you will reach a stairway that will take you out of the cave. Once you have exited the cave, walk south until you see the Sea Castle on the right-hand side of your screen. Walk into the Sea Castle and walk north. You should see an Octopus guard, which will attack you if you bump into it. Since the Octopus guards in the Sea Castle will have many attackers in each group, you can turn this to your advantage by using Magic Spells and killing the entire group with a magic spell. If you follow this strategy, you can rack up massive amounts of gold! * Floor 1 * Walk east past the stairwell and follow the path as it loops around. At the end of the path there is a little building with a door. Walk through the door and go north to a treasure chest containing the important Blue Key item! Exit the room and go up the stairwell that you had passed near the beginning of the castle. * Floor 2 * Walk counter-clockwise around the entire room and go up the stairs to the next floor. (The room that you passed in the northwest corner of this floor is empty). * Floor 3 * Follow the path west to an intersection. The north path leads to a small room in the northwest corner of the floor. Inside the room there are three treasure chests containing a Grenade, Silver Armor, and Cure Spell. When you decide to continue on your journey, take the path going south and follow it until you reach the stairs that will bring you to the next floor. * Floor 4 * Travel clockwise around the floor and go through the door. Walk north until you reach a room that is COMPLETELY full of orbs. Walk to the top right corner of the room. Walk two spaces to the left, and then one space down. Then, hit the "A" button to search. If you still are having trouble finding the orb, please look at this diagram. You will then find the Red Orb and... Sei-Ryu! ---------+ o o o o | o o o o | o x o o | o o o o | _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Sei-Ryu HP: 575-585 GP: 4800 Attacks: Thunder Spell, Bite, Strict Weakness: Unknown Strength: Thunder, ??? Strategy: This boss is very tough, mainly because of his powerful Thunder Spell! If you use your best attacks and magic, you will surely prevail. Once you defeat Sei-Ryu you will receive the Red Orb. _______________________________________________________________________ Now you can walk all the way back to your boat... or you can search one of the other orbs and you will be teleported right to your boat. Once you are ready to go, return the surface and go to South Island. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.7 South Island (Old Man's Island) - Blue Orb, Sphere (#2) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk into the hut and talk to the Old Man who will then ask you a riddle. Now add up the total cost of the items that he tells you. This new number is the cost of the item that is the answer to his riddle. The total cost will either be a Battle Sword, Needle, or a Rock. Once you know what item it is, buy the item and talk to him again. The item must be in your Item Inventory. If you have the item and he is still not giving you the Blue Orb, exit the hut and talk to him again. Once you are given the Blue Orb, go into your Item inventory and double click on the Blue Orb. Both Orbs will then combine forming the White Sphere (#2)! The new Sphere will open the door that was previously locked in the Tower. Exit the Old Man's hut and go to Port Town. Make any final character adjustments you need to make and enter the Tower! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2.8 Tower - 3 X-Potion (x3), Musket (x30), P-Knife (x50) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * Floor 5 * Walk south about six steps and then walk east. Once you are at the locked door use the White Sphere (#2). Once the seal is broken walk through the door. Walk north up the steps and go through the door. * Floor 6 * Walk east and at the fork take the south path. Follow the path and go through the door. Then walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 7 * Walk west into a small room and go through the door. (You may follow either of the paths going north from the entry door on this floor. These paths will lead to a door bringing you to a side- world. Walk north until you reach a row of statues that look like fishes. Now press the "A" button three times on almost any of the statues to get three X-Potions. Some of the other statues have messages for your group to read. If you hit the button more than three times, or you search any other statue after this point, you will get a fight. Then go south and back into the tower. Follow either path south, then walk west and go through the door). The room to the west has a treasure chest with a Musket inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 8 * Walk east into a large room. There is a Healing Pool in the northeast corner of this room where you can regain your HP. Follow the path in the northwest corner of this room. The Healing Pool that you will pass does not work! Keep on walking along the path until you see a door. Now walk through the door, go north up the steps and through the door to the next floor. * Floor 9 * Walk west and take the path going south. Follow the path as it goes west and keep on going until you reach the second path going north. Follow this path north and go through the door. (In the northeast corner of this floor there is a door leading to a room with an Inn and House of Life inside. This room is filled with beds and has a few people that you can talk to. The Gargoyle in the northwest corner says that the four fiends are controlled by an archfiend). The room to the west has a treasure chest with a P-Knife inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 10 * Walk south past the fish statues until you reach the bottom of the floor. Then walk east and talk to the person in black. He says, "The ruler of this World is calling for guards. Being a guard is the quickest way to meet him." Once you talk to the person in black go east through a narrow corridor. Then walk north and go through the door to the next World! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- World 3 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.1 Sky Town - Glider ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You have now emerged from the Tower into the Sky World... take a deep breath and enjoy the nice clean, cold, crisp air ;) Walk west and go into the town. If you talk to the citizens you will hear of a few interesting facts. The first is that there is a hidden town and a secret resistance group! You also hear that the ruler Byak-Ko needs guards, hmmm... the person in black said something very similar. Before you go into the Pub, buy the Dragon Armor and some new weapons. Once you are ready, walk into the Pub and talk to a guard. After a nice civil discussion, you and the Guards decide to fight it out. Beat the Guards, which are really monsters, and you will be sent to Byak-Ko. Byak-Ko will hire you and give you your first assignment. Your job is to capture Jeanne and bring her back to him. He will then give you a Glider that you can use to fly around! Step into the glider and fly out of the castle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.2 Hidden Town - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In the northeast region of this world there is a square cloud 2x2 spaces. The southwest corner of the cloud is where the "Hidden Town" is located. This town sells new Magic, Weapons and Armor! If you talk to the townspeople you will learn that the White Sphere is enshrined in the clouds. You will also hear that the resistance leader Charles has twin daughters, and that once his daughters are together, the White Sphere (#3) will be created. Our next task is to find the Resistance Base. So, fly back to the Floating Castle, which is found near the southwest corner of this world. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.3 The Rebel Base - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Position your glider next to the east side of the castle and go north until you reach some trees. Get off your glider and walk into the igloo found in the middle of the forest. Now walk to the bottom right corner of the room. Talk to the Guards and they will tell you that they have the situation under control. A damsel in distress... your group leaps into action! You now have to fight a Garlic, Sabercat, and P-Worm. Once you have defeated this group talk to the girl. She asks you to help save her sister who is trapped in the Floating Castle. Exit the Rebel Base and go into the Floating Castle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.4 Rescuing Millie - White Key ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Enter the castle, walk north, and take the path going east. Then walk north up a couple flights of steps and go through the door. Follow the path and go through another door. Walk south and then go through the door. Once again, follow the path and go through the door. Follow the path clockwise and go down the stairs. Walk east and go through the door. Walk north and follow the path up the castle until you come to a door. Now go through the door and walk north. Open the treasure chest for the White Key and then exit the room. Keep on following the path north. Walk east and then go through the door. Walk to the northeast corner of the room and talk to the monsters surrounding Milleille. You will now get into a fight with a group of Sabercats. After this easy fight talk to Milleille. Once you finish talking to Milleilee Byak-Ko will enter the room. Your group has fallen into his devious trap, and as if it couldn't get any worse, you learn that Milleille also betrayed you. Byak-Ko will then throw you in jail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.5 Jail - Revenge Sword (x50), Jail Key, Revive (x1), L-Saber (x50), SB. Death (x20), Giant Gaunt., X-Potion (x3), Elixir (x3) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * B-Floor 3 * Talk to the inmates. One inmate wants to get to the glider, and the other tells you that he couldn't bend the bars despite his incredible strength. Now walk up the bars in front of your jail cell and hit the "A" button a couple times. Hmmm... your character has no problem bending those bars, the other guy must have been a wimp ;) Exit the jail cell and go east to the last cell. Search the bars to find a talking sword, the Revenge Sword. Walk northeast and fight the Guard blocking the stairs. Once you have defeated the Imp go up the stairs. * B-Floor 2 * Follow the path going northwest. (To the east is a locked door). Keep on following the path as it twists and turns. Walk up the stairs to the next floor. * Floor 1 * Walk northwest and go through the door. Walk east and talk to the Guards (4 Imps) who are guarding the treasure chest. Open the treasure chest for the Jail Key. The Jail Key will let you open the door to the north, which leads to the Gliders. However, it also opens the locked door that was on the previous floor. I recommend going back and opening the treasure chests, but it is not a necessary event. Top Left = X Potion, Top Middle = Elixir, Top Right = Revive, Bottom Right = L-Saber, Bottom Middle = Giant Fist, Bottom Left = Death Spell. If walk past the door the door leading to the treasure chests, you can find a secret passage. As far as I can tell, the passage is just a shortcut around the twists and turns of the regular passage. Walk back to the room where you got the Jail Key and go north through the door. Walk south and climb into the glider that works. Now exit the Floating Castle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.6 Rebel Base - White Sphere (#3) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you exit the Jail you will notice that the Floating Castle has moved. Fly northeast to the Rebel Base and you will see the Floating Castle hovering to the side. Walk into the Rebel Base and look around...where did Jeanne go? Exit the Rebel Base and walk into the Floating Castle. Once you are inside, walk right back out. (You are technically supposed to look around the castle, but there is nothing there anyway). Once you exit the Floating Castle, you will notice that it has moved again! Now save the game and get your characters ready for a boss fight! Walk into the northwest corner of the clearing that is surrounded by a ring of forest. Once you enter the secret room your character will automatically walk north. Once you reach the top of the screen you see Byak-Ko, Milleille, and Jeanne. Byak-Ko tries to kill Milleille, but Jeanne steps in the way and saves her sister! _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Byak-Ko HP: 918-950 GP: 5500 Attacks: Ice, Sword, Sphere Weakness: Unknown Strength: Unknown Strategy: This is a very easy fight. Just use your most powerful weapons and you should win with no problem at all. On a side note, the HP amount of Byak-Ko is variable, so don't be surprised if you need to deal Byak-Ko more, or even less damage than the HP amount I have listed. _______________________________________________________________________ Once Byak-Ko is defeated Milleille begins to cry, and as she does so, the White Sphere is created. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3.7 Tower - 2 Elixir (x3), Vampric Sword (x50), Potion (x3), Army Helmet, P-Sword (x50), X-Potion (x3), Revive (x1) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- With Byak-Ko defeated you can no longer go to the Hidden Town...yet. Fly to Sky Town and get your characters ready to explore another 5 floors of the Tower. By this time all of my Humans had 99 Strength, 99 Agility, and their HP was over 400. Once you are ready, walk east and into the Tower. If you exit the Tower and go back to this World at any point during the rest of your adventure, you are able to go back to Hidden Town. To get back your Glider, you first you need to talk to one of the Guards in the back of the Pub. Once you have your Glider you are able to fly back to Hidden Town. * Floor 10 * Walk south, take about 6 steps west, and then walk north to the door. Use the White Sphere (#3) and go through the door. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 11 * There is a healing pool in the northwest corner of this room. Walk southwest and then south down some steps. Follow the path west, north, and go through the door. Walk north and through the door to the next floor. * Floor 12 * Follow the path to the fork. Follow the directions in the parentheses if you wish to get the treasures described below; otherwise, take the east path. Keep on following this path and go through the door. (From the fork, walk south, west, and then go through the door. You are now outside the tower on a large cloud. Here are the exact directions for getting the treasures. Stand on top of the Tower icon and walk west. Now position your character so that you are standing on the fourth space to the right on the top row of clouds. Now walk south and open the treasure chest for an Elixir. Now walk back and stand directly below the Tower. Walk south until you are stopped by the edge of the cloud. Now walk 7 steps east. Then walk north and you will eventually hitch a ride on a jet stream that will carry you north. You should pass over the treasure chest, so you will have to open the treasure chest while you are moving. If you do get this treasure, you will be rewarded with a Vampric Sword. There is a Potion in the lower, mid-west area of this cloud. However, I do not think that it is worth getting. Once you are ready go back into the Tower. Walk east to the room with a fake Healing Pool; go north and through the door). The room to the west has a treasure chest with a Saw inside. The Saw has a 50% chance of connecting, and when it does, it is fatal. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 13 * Walk west until you reach the first fish statue. Then walk north and go through the door. (If you keep on going west past the first fish statue, there will be another path that leads to a side- world. However, you will come back to this side-world later so it is not necessary to visit it now). The room to the west has a treasure chest with an Army Helmet inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 14 * Walk west until you reach a fork. If you keep on going west there is a Healing Pool. To continue, walk south until you reach another fork. If you want to keep on climbing the Tower, follow the steps after the parentheses. If you would like some great treasures, follow these steps. (At the fork, follow the path going south. Walk southeast and go through the door. You are now in a flooded side-world! If you talk to the people you will learn that someone left some garbage around and it clogged the drainage hole. To unclog the drain, walk onto the spot that looks like a whirlpool. You will unplug the lake and fall down into another side-world, the one I had mentioned earlier. Walk south, and then east to the last path going north. Walk north up the steps and go through the door. Now walk back to the side-world where you unclogged the drain. Instead of being covered with water, this side-world is now a lush forest. Walk south and go into the castle. Open the treasure chests for a P-Sword, Elixir, Revive, and X- Potion. Walk back into the Tower and go north to the fork). Walk west, and at the next fork go south. Follow the path and go through the door. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 15 * Walk east to the second path going north. Follow the path north and go through the door. (There is a healing pool in the southeast corner of this floor). Walk north and through the door to the next floor. * Floor 16 * Walk south and talk to the person dressed in black. He tells you, "Nothing works against Su-Zaku. You can only run." Walk northeast and go through the door. Congratulations!!! You have made it to World 4. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- World 4 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.1 Underground Tunnels - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk northwest and down into the tunnels. While you are walking you might be attacked by Su-Zaku. If he does attack you, RUN, you are unable to kill him at this time. Once you are in the tunnel walk west and follow the girl. Once you are at the end of the tunnel walk south and go down the stairs. Walk west and go down the stairs. If you look to your left you will see some Atom Ants attacking the girl! Walk south and rescue the girl. Once you have defeated the monsters the girl tells you that the town is to the west. Walk west and go up the stairs ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.2 Southwest Town - Motor Bike ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk west into the town. There is an Inn directly north of where you enter the town. The building in the middle of the town has a Weapon and Item shop on the second floor. Before you leave you must go into the building (Pub) in the northeast corner of town. Once you walk into the Pub your character will immediately get into a verbal fight. Why do the characters always get into fights at the Pub!? Fortunately, the person you get into a fight with is the brother of the girl you helped. While you are talking to him you discuss that you are trying to defeat Su-Zaku, and to your surprise, the moterbiker's are too! He tells you that they need a couple more parts to finish their invention. Once you volunteer to help So-Cho will lend you his motorbike. While you are riding the motorbike you will partially be able to avoid battling Su-Zaku. Your next mission is to go to the Library and learn the location of the secret city of Akiba. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.3 The Library - SB. Stone (x20) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Drive your motorbike into the tunnel northeast of town. Follow the path until you reach the train tracks, the go east. Follow the first path going north and go up the stairs. Now drive into the tunnel to your southeast. Drive east and then south through any of the passages. Then drive east and up the stairs. Now go east, dismount from your bike, and walk into the Library. * Floor 1 * Walk east and you will eventually come to the entrance of the library. Walk north between the fish statues and go up the stairs to the second floor. * Floor 2 * Walk northwest to the top row of bookshelves. The game will then take control of your character. Your character looks around the library and easily finds the book you need to read. The book says that the city of Akiba is 14 spaces east and 15 spaces north of the Library. Now search the bookcase directly below you to find a SB. of Stone. The exact location of the SB. of Stone is the middle bookcase in the third row of bookcases going from south to north. Once you are ready, exit the Library and hop onto your motorbike! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.4 Akiba - Revive (x1), X-Potion (x3), ROM, Catcraw (x50) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To find the secret city, Akiba, drive the number of spaces that you were told to go, 14e and 15n. Remember that this number is in reference to the Library; you may have to adjust the exact number of spaces depending upon where you bike is in reference to the Library. If you are still having trouble finding Akiba, you may try following these alternate sets of directions. 1 - Begin with your bike on the second space west of Northeast town and then drive south. 2 - Begin with your bike in the right angle formed by the water in the northeast corner of the lake. Then drive 3 spaces east and one space north. +------ K E Y -----+ xxxx | | xxxx | ~ Water | xxxx | x Stone Pillars | * xxxx | * Akiba | ~~ xxx | | ~~~~xxx xxx +-------------------+ ~~~~xxx xxx ~~~~xxx xxx Once you enter Akiba you will notice that this city is deserted. Besides the ROM, I would recommend getting the Catcraw since it is a very powerful and expensive weapon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.5 Northeast Town - Board ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Drive northeast and enter the town. Make sure that you look around because this town has a lot to offer. Once you are ready, go east from the entrance of the town to the third stall to your north. Walk out the back entrance and go east to the end of town. Walk north and talk to the shopkeeper. He will give you the Board in exchange for your ROM. Now exit the town and drive to Southwest Town. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.6 Secret Tunnel - Nothing ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk into the Pub and talk to So-Cho who tells you his plan for tomorrow. Your characters go to sleep for the night and then wake up alone in a room. Exit the building and try to leave the town. Your group tries to leave by themselves, hoping to protect their friends by leaving them behind. However, like true friends, they come with you anyway! Drive east into the tunnel. Now follow the Bike to the east along the train tracks. Then travel east along the bottom track until you reach your friends. Get off you Bike and talk to the people on the other Bike. Get back on your Bike, follow them east, and go down the stairs. Get off your bike and talk to the person on the bike again. So-Cho says he will wait for you while you look for the Plutonium. Follow the path going east until you reach a fork. Now take the path going east and follow it clockwise. Once you reach the stairs go up them and into the Power Plant. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.7 Power Plant - Band Helmet ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you fall off the edge of the Power Plant you will go back to the entrance! * Floor 1 * Drive counter-clockwise and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Drive counter-clockwise until you reach the Evil Eye blocking your path. Get off your bike and then talk to the Evil Eye to battle it. Once the battle is over keep on going counter-clockwise and go up the stairs. * Floor 3 * Travel clockwise and go past the red Plutonium spikes. Suddenly, another motorbike enters the screen driven by So-Cho! Talk to So-Cho and before you can stop him, he dashes ahead and destroys the spikes. Unfortunately, just as he destroys the last spike his body runs out of energy and he crashes to the side. Before he dies So-Cho tells you to look out for his sister and he gives you the Band Helmet. Before you go into the door SAVE your game because the door will LOCK behind you. Inside the room the floor is covered with poison that will deal 3HP to each character for each step you take. Walk north and pick up the Plutonium object. As soon as you pick it up the Machine attacks you! _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Machine HP: 985-1005 GP: 0 Attacks: Bash, Balkan, Laser, Beam, D-Beam, Missile, Nuke Bomb Weakness: Unknown Strength: Sleep, Stone, ??? Strategy: This is fight is fairly easy. The only serious attacks the Machine uses are Missile and Nuke Bomb. Each of these attacks deals heavy damage to all of your characters. Use some of those top-notch weapons you bought in Northeast town and the Machine will fall apart in three or four rounds. _______________________________________________________________________ Once you have defeated the Machine, you appear back outside Southwest Town. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.8 Skyscraper - Hyper (x3), X-Potion (x3), Elixir (x3), ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walk into town and look around. Su-Zaku has destroyed almost everything in the town except for the person in the Inn and House of Life. Walk to the Pub and get onto the motorbike left outside the door. Now when you are riding outside in the overworld you will fight monsters, not Su- Zaku. The underground Tunnel system is also not working, the exception being the tunnel that leads to the Power Plant. The Skyscraper is in a meteor-like field in the northwest corner of this world. If you ride along the narrow path on the left, just above the small lake on the far west side of the world, you should see the Skyscraper. Get off your bike and enter the building. * Floor 1 * Walk north but don't go into the door. Instead, travel clockwise and go through the door in the northwest corner of the floor. All the doors on this floor lead to other rooms that are empty. Walk a step east and you will be transported up a floor. Now walk north through the door. * Floor 2 * Walk south and stand in the indentation found in the east wall. Walk 4 steps east and then 5 steps north. Then walk 5 steps east, 8 south, 5 west, 1 north, 3 west, 5 south and into the door. Walk to the northeast corner of the room and open the chest for a Hyper! Exit the room and go back up the hidden path, 5 north, 3 east, 1 south, 5 east, 3 north, and 4 east. Now walk south until you reach the wall. Then walk west until you are stopped and then south until you emerge from the hidden path. Now walk east and go through the door. Walk a step east and you will be transported up a floor. Now walk north through the door. * Floor 3 * Walk east to the second path going north. Follow the path north to the next intersection. Now walk east to the wall and then walk north into a secret door! All the other doors in the previous room are empty. Now walk east for a very long time and then go south through the door. This floor is covered with spikes that take off 3 HP for every step you take. The room to the southeast has an X-Potion inside. Walk through the left door of the two doors in the middle of this floor. Walk a step west and you will be transported down a floor. Now walk north through the door. * Floor 2 * Walk south to the wall, and then take 5 steps east. Walk 5 steps north and then 3 steps west. Now go 3 steps north, 5 steps west, and then north through the door. The other two doors on the floor lead to empty rooms. Walk a step west and you will be transported down a floor. Now walk north through the door. * Floor 1 * Walk east to the wall and take 4 steps south. Walk east through the wall and then north through the door. Walk west to get an Elixir and then exit the room. Walk south and go back through the wall. Follow the path south and go through the first door that you see. The other door on this floor is empty. Walk a step west and you will be transported down a floor. Now walk north through the door. * B-Floor 2 * Walk east to the wall and then walk south to the wall. Then walk west past the path going north until you reach the wall. Walk north and take the path going east. Keep on walking east and just before you reach the wall you will have found the real staircase! * B-Floor 3 * Follow the path north until you reach the train. Then walk east and enter the subway car that has its doors open. Now you need to keep on going west through the subway cars until you reach Su-Zaku. On your way you will meet two passengers. The first one tells you "Su-Zaku is to the west." The second passenger is really an Evil Eye in disguise! Eventually you will reach the end of the train and you will see Su-Zaku and Sayaka! Talk to Su-Zaku and he will go to the top of the train. Your characters follow him right on up! A few times my game has had problems at this point. Instead of following him up to the top of the train my characters would remain stationary. If this happens go into the door, which will lead you back to the beginning of the train. Then go all the way back through the train to where Su-Zaku was and talk to him again. This should solve your problem. Once you are ready, talk to Su-Zaku and Sayaka. Then double click on Erase-99 in your Item List to destroy Su-Zaku's Force Field. ______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Su-Zaku HP: 1400-1450 GP: 6500 Attacks: Flame, Blind, Beak, Weakness: Unknown Strength: Unknown Strategy: This boss has the potential to be very easy. If you use the Stone Spell you may kill this boss in one hit! If you want to do it the hard way, just use your best attacks; P-Sword, Catcraw, or Dragon Sword, whatever works best. _______________________________________________________________________ After the fight you appear back at So-Cho's grave. After a short memorial, his sister will give you the fourth Sphere! Exit the cemetery by going up the stairs in the southeast corner of the screen. Once you exit you are right outside the Tower. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.9 Tower - Door (x3), Magnum (x30), Aezis Shield (x50), Nuke Bomb (x1), SB. Flare (x20), X-Calibur (x50), Glass Sword (x50) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- By this time I am sure your party is looking pretty ragged. If you need to, drive back to Northeast Town and refresh yourself at the Inn. Then buy whatever supplies you need because the next Floors of the Tower are going to be tricky! Once you are fully equipped and ready, go into the Tower. * Floor 16 * Walk clockwise along the outer boundary of the floor until you reach some poisonous spikes. Cross the spikes and use the Red Sphere (#4) to break the seal! Now go through the door. Then walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 17 * Walk east to the second set of steps going north. Follow the path north and go through the door. The room to the west has a treasure chest with a Door inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 18 * Walk clockwise and go through the first door you see. Other door on this floor leads to a side-world that has people who believe that Ashura the fiend is really a hero! The healing pool found in the middle of the poisonous spikes is fake. The room to the west has a treasure chest with a Magnum inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 19 * Walk north until you reach some steps leading up to a door. The door to your north leads to higher floors of the Tower. However, before you continue I recommend making a little side trip. If you would like to continue your journey, skip past the directions below to the next paragraph. (This side trip I mentioned leads to one of most powerful weapons in the game... the Nuke Bomb! Instead of walking up the steps, walk west and follow the path. Walk down the right side of the steps to your south and you will be moved down. The Healing Pool to your east is real, so you might want to stop by and refresh yourself. Once you are ready, walk west past the bottom of the steps, follow the path northwest, and then go through the door. Now walk south down a long flight of steps. Once you reach the end of the path talk to the dead guy in the corner of the room. After reading his journal you will get the Nuke Bomb! Now backtrack all the way back to the door that continues up the Tower). The room to the west has a treasure chest with an Aezis Shield inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 20 * Walk west and at the intersection take the south path. Walk south until you reach the wall. To continue climbing the Tower, walk east and through the door. If you would like to get the Spell Book of Flare, follow the directions in the next paragraph. (Walk west and go through the door. Then walk to the seventh bookcase, from left to right, and go straight north through the bookcase. You are now in a hidden room. Search the bookcase to your north for a Spell Book of Flare. The other bookcases in the main room contain parts of a hidden message about Ashura the fiend. Exit the library, walk east, and then go through the door). Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. * Floor 21 * Walk west to the intersection and follow the path going north. Now walk through the door and travel southwest across the flower patches. Walk into the hut and talk to the Old Man who gives you the weapon Excalibur. Exit the hut and walk back into the Tower. Walk south to the intersection and then walk east. Follow the path counter- clockwise and make sure to use the Healing Pool if you need it. Keep on following the path and go through the door. The room to the west has a treasure chest with a Glass Sword inside. Walk north up the steps and go through the door to the next floor. Make sure that you get the Glass Sword and Excalibur. These weapons are considered to be the most powerful in the game! * Floor 22 * Walk southeast and talk to the person in black. Now take a deep a breath and prepare for a battle unlike any you have done before. But before you continue, now is one of the last chances you have to revisit any of the previous Worlds or Floors of the Tower. Once you are ready, stand in front of the giant column in the middle of the screen. Now walk north into the middle of the column and you will be transported through the door. * Floor 23 * Walk north until you have just finished climbing the very last set of steps. Now move your character to either the left or right side and then walk north to Ashura. There is a hidden trap door three spaces before Ashura that will drop you down to the 22nd floor of the Tower. Now save the game and talk to Ashura. Before you start the fight Ashura will offer you a deal. A piece of the World for each of your characters! Although this deal might seem to good to pass up, your characters are looking for something much better, the secret of the Tower...! _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Ashura HP: 1850-1900 GP: 9999 Attacks: 3Heads, Flare, Gaze, Heal, Blind Weakness: Unknown Strength: Flame, Fire, Elec, Ice, Stop, Stone, Death, ??? I recommend using a P-Sword or Vampic Sword with your Mutant(s), the Glass Sword and/or a Dragon Sword with your Human(s), and have one character heal. Make sure you have some Elixirs handy because you might just need them! _______________________________________________________________________ Now that you have won the battle, you are ready to learn the secret of the Tower! You have fought, bled, and sacrificed so much just to get to this point. (Unless you use a door) If you search the orb behind you, you will regain a small portion of your HP. You may repeat this until all of you characters are healed. This area is barren with only a couple trees and tables to break the monotony. Once you are outside the small area enclosing the orb, walk north to a stream running east to west. Follow the stream west until you meet...can it be, the man in black? The man in black who has guided you in your quest reveals his true identity as the Creator. He tells your group that he created all of the Worlds in an attempt to discover the courage and determination in man. The Creator says that he was very pleased with how well your party performed and that he will grant you any wish you desire. As you can imagine, your party does not take it kindly that this powerful being used not only you, but also every other person in such a manner. Your group confronts and challenges the Creator, telling him that what he did was not acceptable. The Creator accepts your challenge, telling you that it is the folly of all mortals to always attack their master. _______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Creator HP: 4820-4860 GP: 0 Attacks: Light, Repent, Recover, Flare, *****, RIGHT Weakness: Unknown Strength: Ice, Elec, Flame, Stone, Gaze, ??? Strategy: The Creator will not attack for the first one or two rounds. The Creator will then attack you randomly until you deal him about 3,000 damage. He will then attack with either Right or Flare until you deal him around 4,000 damage. At this time, the Creator will keep on casting the Flare Spell until either he is killed or you die. The best weapons for a Human to use are the Glass Sword and Masmune Sword. If you have a Mutant, I recommend using the Flare Spell, Vampic Sword, P-Sword, or a Healing Spell. If you have a Monster, use your most powerful attacks or restorative abilities. The Nuke Bomb works well against the Creator, but Hyper does not. The Creator is also vulnerable to the Saw. The hit rate of the Saw is based on Agility; so if you are going to use this weapon, equip the Saw with a character with high agility. The Mutant characters also seems to have a much higher chance of hitting the Creator than a Human, even if the Human has 255 Agility. Light = A blind attack on all characters Repent = A confusion attack on all characters Recover = Creator recovers his HP ***** (LEFT) = An attack that deals ~75-125 damage to all characters RIGHT = Deals around 240-260 damage to all characters Flare = Deals around 275-325 damage to all characters _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Creator is defeated your characters walk north to a door. Your group discusses what to do, to continue or...? Your group decides to go back to their own world, leaving the mystery behind. The credits begin to roll taking you back to various moments in your adventure. *** I hope you enjoyed this game and walkthrough as much as I did. Tips and Hints ======================================================================= 1. Remember, the order that you have your characters lined up in is very important. The first character has a higher chance of getting hit, and the last character the least chance of getting hit. 2. Always save your game when you get a desired ability or monster. You may lose that Mutant ability in the next fight, or your Monster can change to a "weakling" if you eat some bad meat. So, in a nutshell, save as often as possible. 3. To quickly restart this game, hit "Start, Select, A Button, and B Button" all at the same time. 4. When you pay at an Inn to restore your HP, the cost will be the total amount needed to restore your characters. This means if you are 1 GP short, you will not be able to use the Inn at all! Maximize your use of Healing Pools, since these will restore your character's HP for free. 5. When you are using a Skill Weapon, you may have noticed that the last usage is extremely powerful. For this trick to work, you must have a Skill Weapon equipped in the first slot, and another of that same Skill Weapon equipped in the slot below the first one. After you use the last usage of a Skill Weapon with the first slot, you may use attack with the second Skill Weapon below that, with each strike inflicting the massive damage the last usage did with your first Skill Weapon. ======================================================================= XI. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) ======================================================================= Last Updated: 05/03/2002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -> This list is compiled from various emails that I have received. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. How do I get the Nuke Bomb? A: The Nuke Bomb is found on Floor 19 of the Tower. There is a door in the southwest corner of the floor that leads to a separate room. Go south down some steps and search the dead guy. You will read his journal, and at the end, you will have found the Nuke Bomb ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. How did I suddenly lose all of my gold? A: After your group has over 1,000,000 Gold, your amount of gold will "reset" back to 0. This means that you have to start gaining gold all over again. This is a major pain, so if you are getting close to a million Gold, get rid of it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. How do I kill the Creator? A: If you want to easily kill the Creator, have one of your character use the Saw. Eventually, when the Saw connects, you will have instantly killed the Creator. If you prefer to beat the Creator using just weapons, I recommend using the Glass Sword, Masmune, Flare, and any other type of attack. The Creator is very hard to beat, but if you use your best attacks, you will have an easier time of winning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. How come I can't get the Airseed? I am at the palm tree you described, but I still can't find it! A: In this game, you must be "facing" the object you want to search. You CAN'T find the Airseed by stepping on the palm tree and then searching. Move away from the palm tree, and then face it with your character. Then you can search and find the Airseed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. I am can't kill King Sword. Is there anything I can do to make my battle easier? A: Yes there is! If you have a Mutant with you try to have that Mutant learn the Power ability. Then equip him/her with a strength-based weapon like a Hammer. Then when you attack, you will deal the enemy a massive blow that is likely to kill the boss monster. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. I have the Board and Rom in World 4 and have talked to So-Cho. However, I am unable locate the tunnel they went into. Where is it? A: What should have happened is that when you tried to leave town, So- Cho and the gang should brought you to the tunnel entrance. But if for some reason you drove away, here are some easy directions to find it. From directly below Northeast town drive south until you are on top of a column or building type of landscape. Then drive west until you reach the tunnel entrance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= XII. Monster Transformation Table ======================================================================= After winning a battle, you may have the opportunity to eat the meat of a creature. This meat has no affect on humans or mutants, but it will affect monsters. Monster mutation is very useful if you are looking to change into a more powerful creature, or if your monster is hurt and you are looking to replace it. Once your character eats the meat it will be transformed, giving you a monster with replenished powers. The table below lists the various monster transformation possibilities. A list of what monsters are represented by what letters can be found directly below this chart. The top row of this chart is referring to what group your monster currently belongs to. The column to the far left represents what group the monsters meat you are eating belongs to. Each of these groups is composed of about 6 different monsters. As you progress through the game, you may notice that the game uses the same monster picture for a different monster. For example, a Goblin will have the same picture as an Oni. Since a Goblin and an Oni are in the same group, they have the same picture. This means that every monster in the same group will have the same picture. As you advance through the game, the monsters in a group will get much more powerful. As you progress, you should be able to see how the Ogres group becomes more powerful. First you fight Goblins, then an Oni, and then Ogres, etc. S/p has created a "level" based number for each monster. For more information on this topic please refer to his Meat Transformations FAQ. Thank You! ======================================================================= XV. Specific Character Guide Walkthrough ======================================================================= If you are interested in a challenge, try beating the game with only ONE character! Here is a quick list of steps I took to perform this feat. I played with a Male character for both Humans and then Mutants. I am assuming that the game would have been approximately the same if I had chosen female characters instead of males. ----------------------- Humans (Male or Female) ======================= The beginning of the game is much easier if you choose a female character because you can sell her Saber for a lot of money. Then you can buy the Gold Armor, Gauntlet, an Agility Potion and 3 sets of Rapiers. With a male character you have to do more tedious fighting before you have enough money to buy this equipment. World 1 ------- - Fight Goblins and Asigaru outside of South Town - Buy Bronze Armor and Helmet - Remember to keep on buying Long Swords as you need them - Buy ~5 strength or agility potions depending upon whether you have a male or female character - Buy Gold Armor and Gauntlet - Defeat Bandit King and then equip King Armor - Buy 5 more strength and 5 agility potions - Defeat King Sword and then equip the King Sword - Fight the wandering monsters in Castle of Sword - Raise strength AND agility to ~35 points - Defeat Gen-Bu using Long Sword - Raise strength AND agility to 50 points - Go through Tower to World 2 World 2 ------- - Buy Axes and go back into Tower. Fight wandering Gargoyles in side- world on the fourth floor - Buy Silver Armor and Helmet on East Island Village - Get Airseed and buy Battle Swords - Raise strength AND agility to ~85 points - Pick up Airseed and buy Silver Gauntlet in Underwater Town - Battle wandering Octopus monsters in Sea Castle - Raise strength And agility to 99+ (Remember that in Humans, strength and Agility may be raised to ~255 points!) - Defeat Sei-Ryu buy Katana's and make sure your HP is ~400 points - Go through Tower to World 3 World 3 ------- - Buy the Dragon Armor at Sky Town and then get the Glider - Rescue the Girl - Buy a Giant Gauntlet and some Silver Swords at Hidden Town - To earn money, walk on the big clouds and fight random monsters. - Get thrown into and escape the jail - Defeat Byak-Ko and get the Orb - Consider raising your Strength and Agility another ~50 points - Go through Tower to World 4. Consider picking up the treasure chests so you can use or sell the items inside World 4 ------- - Walk through the Tunnels and go into Southwest Town - Go to the Pub and get your Motor Bike - I kept the Dragon Armor instead of equipping the Suit Armor since the Dragon Armor protects against elemental magic. However, make sure you buy the Suit Armor and Saw before you go to the Power Plant! - Go through the Library and then Akiba - While you are at Northeast town make sure you are equipped with an Army Helmet and a Geta Shoe. You should have enough weapons since you can equip the ones you found. However, if you ran out of weapons you should buy a pair of Dragon Swords - If you need money fight the monsters in the Tunnels - Go through the Secret Tunnel and enter the Power Plant - When at the Power Plant make sure to equip the Band Helmet once you get it. Then remove the Dragon Armor and equip the Suit Armor - DON'T save the game once you are inside the room with the Plutonium. Once you enter the room the door will disappear! - Increase your Strength and Agility another ~50 points. Make sure your HP is ~700 points. You can raise your HP above 600 by using the cheap HP200's - Walk into the Skyscraper. Make sure you find the Hyper weapon *********************************************************************** The rest of this section and others will be completed in the next updated version of this walkthrough. *********************************************************************** ======================================================================= XVI. Miscellaneous ======================================================================= There has been some talk about whether the game "plays" differently on the different GameBoy types. Other people and I have noticed a difference in how Mutants level up when playing on different Gameboy types (Original, Color, and Advance) 1. Mutants seem to increase all their stats much more quickly on the Color GameBoy. Except when you have a group of 4 Mutants. 2. There is a peculiar "doubling/halving" effect on Mutant abilities on the Color GameBoy. This is most often seen when a Mutant gets the Flame Spell or occasionally another spell. The next battle following the "learning" of a spell located in the first slot, will often lead to its maximum number of uses halving from 10 to 5. Along with this, any other ability that a Mutant has at this time will double. This may be beneficial, since I have had 20 Heal spells and some other good abilities doubled. 3. A few people have received multiple Band Helmets from So-Cho in World 4. 4. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot transform into a Shrimp, Medusa or Cactus. Why the developers of this game made it this way is a mystery? If you have been able to transform into these monsters, without using any device, please email me telling me what monster you were and what monster meat you ate. Thank You! ======================================================================= XVII. Credits ======================================================================= I want to give thanks to my supportive girlfriend, Heidi, aka. "My Little Hime(Princess)." I love you with all my heart. Second, to my brother Jim for all of his hard work in helping make this walkthrough a success. Sxp, for providing monster info for stat info on Cactus, Medusa, Shrimp, Dragon 2,3. Gold and location info for the Squid and Tororo. And for allowing me permission to borrow information and parts of his Monster chart
