Credits 001-General Information ----------------------------------------------------------- This is a walkthrough for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game called Sidepocket. The game is based on Pool, or Billiards as some call it. You can e-mail me at ilovecartoonssomuch@yahoo.com, but make sure there is no subject, or I'll delete (I got 30 spam e-mails in six hours yesterday). If you want to use part of my guide for something, ask me first, or you'll break some law. Okay? Let's break! Thanks to another gamefaqs.com contributer, J Dawg007, for his help on the USA trick shot, and telling me about the draw feature. 002-Story ----------------------------------------------------------- Uh, you're a pool player. You want to go as far as you can go with your skills. First you try city champioin, then state champion, then USA champion, and lastly world champion. 003-How to Play Pool ----------------------------------------------------------- In Pool, there are sixteen balls. However, you're not playing pool against anyone, so you'll just have nine balls. The object of the game is to hit eight of the balls into side pockets. There are six side pockets, four of them in the four corners, and the other two points are the midpoints of the longer ends. Two balls are special. One is the cue ball, and the other is the eight ball. The cue ball is white, and the eight ball is black. You use a pole to hit the balls into the holes. The trick is, you can only hit the cue ball. So you have to hit the cue ball in such a way that it hits against the other balls, and makes them go into the holes. You cannot get the cue ball into a hole (that's bad), and the eight ball can get in a hole only AFTER all the other balls are in holes. However, this rule is only enforced in two player mode. There are two kinds or extra bonuses you can get. One bonus is for hitting the balls in the holes in their numerical order. The other bonus is if you hit the balls in pockets consecutively (you get a ball in one shot, and on the next shot you get another ball, and so on). In later levels, the challenges get tougher, and if you miss too many shots, you're out. 004-Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- Okay, in the first screen you can choose walkthrough (it may be helpful to pool newbies), but what you really want to choose is pocket game. However, there are some controls in this game that you may not be used to (follow, draw, center, left, right), so you should try it out. Once you're done, you can try the pocket game. Well, you can see all four levels: city champ, state champ, USA champ, and world champ. You'll start at city champ. Okay, you need 3100 points to become city champion. You'll start off at a pool table. Since this is first round, you don't have the eight ball, you just have six of the normal balls. The starting shot is lined up for you, so press A to say that you're taking the shot. Now press A again when the power meter (minimum to maximum) is at a desired level. You'll notice a corner will have a star in it; shoot a ball in that corner to get an extra bonus! You can use the handy dandy dotted line to line up your shot. Also, in the upper left hand corner with your score will be a picture of the ball you'll want to shoot in next (for numerical order). Remember you get extra points for shooting the balls in numerical order. You can also press B to see the order. Just keep shooting until every ball is in, you pool shark! Do your best! If you mess up too much (lose all of your balls in the upper left hand corner), you lose! After you get all them in, your points are tallied up. Extra points for every shot you made in a row, and for every shot you made in numerical order. If you got enough points, you get a bonus shot. Try to hit the ball(s) into the empty hole. The bonus shot varies depending on how many shots you get into pockets that had stars. If you make 3100 points or more, you're the new city champion and you get to see a good-looking girl lovingly stare at you. If not, you try another game. Now you're onto state championship. You need 4100 points. State championship has nine balls. Things are the same here. Do what you did last time, and hope you get over 4100 points in this game (a good majority of the points comes from the order/in a row bonuses). If you got 4100 points, you're the state chapion! The bonus shot this time should have bumper pool (there are little bumpers that you must avoid). Plus, the good-looking girl stares at you again. However, before passing onto USA champion, you have to do a fancy trick shot. You get a weird set up. You get one shot, and you have to make every ball go in to win. Do this, and you're the new state champion who is going on to the USA level. If not, you do the state level again. To make the shot, line up the dotted line so it covers up the dot on the left hand side of the table (the dot tells where the balls are placed in normal play). Do a high powered shot and they all go in. If it works, you go onto USA level. Okay, now you're onto USA level. You need 5100 points to become the USA champion. The USA champion level has six balls, no eight ball. This means you'll have to A) make a lot of shots in a row B) make the shots in numerical order C) make the shots into the highlighted pockets. A combination of these will let you get the 5100 points. This'll probably be the first level that poses a challenge to get the necessary score. If you get 5100 points, you're the new USA champion. You get to see yourself outside of a club. You're next to a fancy car, with the good-looking girl inside. Then you mess up the coolness by doing the peace sign. You'll have to do another trick shot to get onto the USA level. This trick shot is much harder. Hit all four balls in to win. You have to use a draw shot on this one, so press down + B until the dot on the ball (center of the upper screen) is as far down as possible. Then, shoot at the two ball, with the line about between the bottom of the ball and the middle of the ball. Good luck! After the USA level, you're onto world level. Once again, it has nine different balls. Now you need 7100 points, which is a hell of a lot. So using fantastic math skills, I figured it out. You'll have to make every ball go in consecutively, and four of them must be in numerical order. You can change those numbers by getting star shots, but any way, it's very tough. If you don't make it, you'll have to do the board over again, this time with six balls (doubly harder), but then back to nine balls if you mess up again. When you get 7100 points, you see a screen showing that you are the new world champion (and the good-looking girl again). But before you take the title, you have to do one last trick shot. This one is wild. There are two pool sticks on the table, blocking yor way. Contrary to good sense, you will need to use the sticks to beat this shot. Aim at the one ball. The dotted line should be underneath the one ball, almost directly beneath it. If you take the top edge of the last three dots in the line, the line should connect with the edge of the gray part of the upper left hand pocket. You need an exact angle. Then do a shot at maximum power, and be amazed at how it works. Oh, and you win. 005-Game Genie Codes ---------------------------------------------------------- There aren't any game genie codes for this game. How lame! They sure could have been useful! 006-Credits ----------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is copyright of The Lost Gamer, 2002.
