So when I saw this 9 year old game gathering dust on one of K-Mart's shelves, I grabbed it, forked over $29 (in Australian Dollars), bung it in my teal Game Boy CoLoR and I was off. So breath in, blow all the dust off your copy and get ready to play Nintendo shoot-em up's at their best. At that time, there was a kingdom called "Angel Land" which was founded by the Goddess Palutena. Angel Land was a place where the sun was always shining and the people peacefully raised their crops. It was a good and happy place and a smile never left the face of Palutena as she watched over the country from The Sky Palace. But, one day, her smile was wiped away as a result of a dream. A terrible dream, which seemed so real and was much more horrible than the worst nightmare. Calling a soothsayer to her, she asked him to unravel the dream and foretell what was to pass. Seemingly in pain, the soothsayer began to speak, "Angel Land will be attacked. Attacked by an invasion of demons from another world. Terrible demons by the name of O...Or...Orcos!" Upon uttering this name, the soothsayer was struck speechless, as voiceless as a stone. Palutena immediately summoned Pit, the leader of the Icarus Army. The personal bodyguards of Palutena, the Icarus Army was responsible for guarding the peace in Angel Land and none took their job lightly. Upon arriving, Pit was asked to have a seat, a liberty not usually given by a Goddess. Looking directly into his eyes, Palutena began, "Pit! Thank you for coming. I have a task for you," she then told him of her dream and of the soothsayer. "Pit, this dream will come to pass. And, I believe that it will happen in the not-too-distant future. I trust you, but, you must tell no one else! News of these terrible demons will cast our peaceful Angel Land into chaos. I bid you now to begin training so that you may gain special magical power. I am placing all of my hopes and fate of Angel Land on you Pit. You must be the one to battle the demons." Sitting back in her chair, Palutena continued, "Since the days of old, Angel Land has possessed The Three Sacred Treasures. These treasures, when worn, will give the wearer the special magical powers to battle any demon. Yet alas, poor Pit you do not yet have sufficient power to wear these Three Sacred Treasures." So Pit, with the help of Palutena, devised a mission so that he might attain the power needed to wear The Three Sacred Treasures. This mission was threefold: To battle his way up under the Under World Tower, storm the Over World, and conquer the dizzying heights of the Sky World Tower. Only then would Pit have sufficient power to enter The Sky Palace and wear the Three Sacred Treasures. To keep The Three Sacred Treasures safe in case Angel Land was attacked while Pit was away on his mission, Palutena sealed them and sent one to each of the Fortress Guardians. She knew that once they had their hands on The Three Sacred Treasures, they would not give them up without a fight. After Pit's mission of training was complete, and he had gained the ability to use the Three Sacred Treasures, the job to defend Angel Land from the Orcos would be his. With this plan in mind, Palutena then dispatched Pit to the darkest depths of the Under World Tower. You must help Pit on his life-or-death mission to collect The Three Sacred Treasures and return them quickly to the Sky Palace before the Orcos can over run the land. But... Just what are the Orcos?!!!!! =============================================================================== 2)GAMEPLAY BASICS =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Control Pad: Left - Moves Pit left Right - Moves Pit right Up - Aims bow upward and makes Pit climb ladders Down - Makes Pit squat, makes Pit descend on ladders amd makes Pit fall through certain platforms A Button - Makes Pit Shot a Arrow or whack the Hammer B Button - Jump, further presses mid-jump cause him to flap (slowing descent). In it you smash pots at a cost of 5 Hearts each to get items. The catch is if you uncover *the* pot with the God of Poverty inside, all the remaining pots will disappear. But if you uncover the pot that would have had the God of Poverty inside last, you will be rewarded with either a Barrel, a Bottle, a Credit card or a Key. Like the NES version there is a trick to winning all the contents of this room, the only problem is that it's far more complicated and the location of the God of Poverty is only certain in some cases. So any way here is the trick, use the diagram below to identify the pots then use the dichotomous key below it to identify the possible location(s) of the God of Poverty. ##****************************## ## AA BB ## ## #### #### ## ## ## ##CC EE## ######## DD ######## ## #### ## ## ## ########## ########## ## ## ##FF GG HH## ################################ Shoot D & G first 1.a) You uncovered a Heart & a Hammer | Go to 2 b) You uncovered 2 Hearts or 2 Hammers | Go to 3 2.a) The top one's a Heart | Shoot E last b) The top one's a Hammer | Shoot E then go to 4 3.a) You uncovered 2 Hearts | Shoot B or C last (50/50 chance) b) You uncovered 2 Hammers | Shoot H last 4.a) You uncovered a Heart | Shoot A or H last (50/50 chance) b) You uncovered a Hammer | Shoot B or F last (50/50 chance) If you don't know how to use a dichotomous key here are charts of all the possible combo's, I have condensed the maps but here is a condensed version of the first map and a Key to the characters so it doesn't confuse you. confused? _____ | A B | H: Heart |C D E| T: Hammer |F G H| ?: Special Prize \ God of Poverty ¯¯¯¯¯ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ | H H || H T || T H || ? There are two types of these, the Normal Hot Springs that have a large hot spring and Crow; the retainer of the hot springs. And the Totem Hot Springs that are smaller hot springs, guarded by rejuvenating Totems. In the Totem Hot Springs the best way to get past the Totems is to jump to the higher platform, then float down to the left past the Totems, once you land in the Hot Spring the Totems will disappear. ________ |Hospital| (Fortress only) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Go here if you have been turned into an eggplant by the eggplant wizard. So the nurse can change you back to your normal form. ______________ |Sacred Chamber| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you have strived hard enough in you mission, Zeus will award Power Arrows to you. Power Arrows increase the effectiveness of your arrows. ______________________ |Sacred Training Center| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In these rooms Zeus tests you by making millions of Monoliths attack you. If you survive you will be rewarded with the choice of one weapon. Or if you are in Stage 4 you will also be given the chance to wear any treasures you have not been given the permission to wear. The best way to survive the Monoliths is to stay in the center and shot upwards rapidly, but if you are in Stage 4 simply fly above them all until Zeus tells you that's enough. ___________ |Bat Chamber| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The bat chamber is basically a room full of bats, but it is also a great place to gain hearts. As soon as you enter run to the floor, Now aim upwards and shot any bats you see. Now once all the ones you can reach have gone. Jump up one level and do the same. __________________ |Information Center| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In this room a guy called Don will give you hints, quite useless since you have this FAQ. =============================================================================== 3)POWERING UP PIT =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i)Life & Power ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ************* LIFE BLOCKS ************* Life Blocks are very important for two reasons, they let Pit take more damage and they let Pit use better weapons. Extra Life Blocks are rewarded by Zeus after finishing a stage, but you must have a certain amount of points for him to reward you them. Here are the approximate amount of points you need to get extra life blocks. 2nd Life Block : 4350 3rd Life Block : 9370 4th Life Block : 18900 5th Life Block : 28680 ************** POWER ARROWS ************** Power Arrows increase the effectiveness of Pits Arrows. For instance, Reapers have a HP level of 6 so if your Power Level is one arrow it will take 6 arrows to kill a Reaper, but after you get your 2nd Power Arrow a Reaper will only take 3 arrows. Power Arrows are rewarded by Zeus in the Sacred Chamber, but Zeus will only reward you a Power Arrow if you have strived hard in your mission, this means: 1. Killing heaps of enemies 2. Acquiring lots of Items 3. Entering as many rooms as possible 4. Not dieing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ii)Weapons & Treasures ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ********* WEAPONS ********* Weapons are obtained from passing the Sacred Training Chambers. You also need a certain amount of Life Blocks to use them. __________ |Fire Arrow| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Makes a ball of fire orbit Pit's arrows. Increasing his chance of causing damage. Two full blocks of life are needed to use this weapon. ________ |Long Bow| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Makes Pit's arrows fly for a much longer distance. Three full blocks of life are needed to use this weapon. ___________________ |Protective Crystals| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Two crystals that orbit Pit. Killing anything they touch. Four full blocks of life are needed to use this weapon. **************************** THE THREE SACRED TREASURES **************************** These can only be used in Stage 4, You get them in the Caskets you get from defeating the Gatekeepers. You must either get Palutena's blessing to wear them or you can also earn the right to wear them by passing the Sacred Training Chambers in Stage 4. The Three Sacred Treasures are: ________________ |Wings of Pegasus| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The actual wings of pegasus, they allow Pit to fly. _____________ |Silver Armour| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Halves all damage from enemies to Pit ____________ |Light Arrows| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Arrows that blast through the enemy like laser beams. =============================================================================== 4)LEVEL GUIDE =============================================================================== Pit's adventure starts at the bottom of the Under World Tower. Now collect all the Hammers you can see, and if you still hear the "beeping" of the Harp press start and use the control pad to look around. • Watch out for the thistles that guard the small platforms after the first couple of clouds, they drain your life. ______________ |Room Locations| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ • Information Center- Right of the starting door, Don's Hint "You can break some walls with Hammers to find secrets". • Bat Chamber- A little bit after the 2nd Snake Pot, in a alcove. • Treasure Chamber- To the right of the first couple of clouds, it is on a platform with a Centurion. • Shop- After the thistle platforms on the left side of a long cloud. ****************** S T A G E 1 - 2 ****************** ____ |Tips| ¯¯¯¯ • If you don't want to deal with the Reaper after going to the shop, jump up the platforms to get to the Chalice, then jump up to the platform to the right then onto the small platform on the left. From this platform jump up to the edge of the Reaper platform to the left, now jump up and drop down to the door on the left before the Reaper can see you. • Make sure you collect the Harp between the thistle platforms so you get heaps of hammers. • If you want to get the Chalice to the right of the moving crystal platform; jump at the last minute and flap once to get to it, then jump and flap once to get back past the thistles. • The Spitball Blobs near the end can be a great way to increase your hearts and score, but the can also be very deadly, so watch out. ______________ |Room Locations| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ • Bat Chamber- Above and to the right of the first Snake Pot. • Hot Spring (Normal)- To the left of the second poisonous pond. • Shop- Above the Hot Spring door, just climb the platforms up from the Hot Spring. • Treasure Chamber- On the same platform as the Reaper. • Sacred Chamber- After the moving crystal platform there is a Centurion, smash the Centurion so you can get to the door. ****************** S T A G E 1 - 3 ****************** ____ |Tips| ¯¯¯¯ • At the start make your way up from the smaller ice platform as this corridor has a Harp. • Before entering the shop collect the Chalice to the right of the door, after you exit the Shop the Chalice will re-appear. • There is a great place to gain hearts near the end of the stage, it is below the last Snake Pot, just walk under the Snake Pot heaps of times and kill all the Spitball Blobs and Snakes that appear each time. ______________ |Room Locations| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ • Hot Spring (Totem)- At the start jump to the platform directly above this stage's entrance, then while watching for Snakes whack the left wall to uncover a door. • Sacred Training Center- At the start in the same corridor as the Harp, the door is guarded by a Reaper. • Shop- To the left of the third moving crystal platform. • Information Center- After the corridor with all the Wormsers, jump over the poisonous pond to the left to get to the door. But if you know the right approach in fighting him, he is quite easy. You should only attack him if he is either standing on the floor, or on one of the two lower platforms. If he is standing on the floor shot 3 arrows at him then retreat back then come back through the gap in his fireballs and shot 3 more arrows, repeat until he engulfs himself in flames and teleports off. If he is on one of the two lower platforms shot him three times then retreat under the platform he is on, then after his fireballs go past jump and shot him three time then retreat again, repeat until he turns into a fireball. If he is on one of the three higher platforms simply stand right under him and his fireballs will miss you, you will lose life if you try to attack him on the higher platforms. Stay in the bottom right corner of the room, then get into the rythm and shot the Fire Serpent whilst dodging him and his 3-way fire blasts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- iv)The Sky Palace ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************** S T A G E 4 ****************** ___________ |Walkthrough| ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You're probably weak from the fight with Fire Serpent, so fly up and to the right to collect the Chalice, then fly up to the door to the Information Center, exit and re-collect the Chalice. Now head back to this stage's entrance and go the lower way right, past the Pythagoras. Fly above the pillar to the right, then walk to the right until you touch the floor, fly up and around to the door Hot Spring. After you've regained all your life exit and backtrack to the first pillar. Now go the highest way until you get to the spikes, then drop down and wait outside the door on the right, kill enough Snakes to get your Hearts to about 250, so you can buy a Bottle from the Shop that's in the door to your right. After buying as many Bottles as you want (how much time have you got?), fly ahead through the zig-zagging corridors until you get to the next door which is a Bat Chamber, after killing all the Bats continue on but whack the wall to the right of the next poison pond this corridor takes you to a Hot Spring. Backtrack and continue on. There is a Sacred Training Chamber up ahead, this is your chance to get a Treasure if you're missing one, just fly above the Monoliths (Mirrors) until Zeus gives you the choice. Now continue on, when the path forks up ahead go the lower way and whack the wall up ahead to get to a Shop. After the two paths converge into one again, there are some steps. Hammer them and fly down and to the right to get to another Hot Spring, then fly to the right and enter the Bat Chamber, after visiting these rooms backtrack and continue along the main path. When the path splits in two again go the top way if your low on life (which is unlikely) but anyway Hammer the wall to get to the door. In the middle of the Spikes up ahead is another Sacred Training Center, go in it if your missing a treasure. Then head to the exit door. There is a door below the door that leads to a Hot Spring but you will need a lot of Hammers to get to it. _____ |Orcos| (Final Boss) ¯¯¯¯¯ Congratulations! You got to the final boss, Orcos. He has two forms; the first, a smaller quicker and easier form, and the final giant form which is harder but there is a pattern in killing him! With the first form fly around helter skelter and shot him while avoiding the flame balls he breaths. Once you get enough shots in him, he will change to his second form. With his second form follow this pattern (It may take a while for him to get into it) Shot his head, drop down weaving between the fire balls, stay low until he finishes shooting spikes out of his tail, then fly up while killing all the bats he produces, then shot his head, rinse and repeat until he dies. Then enjoy the fairly crap ending! I thought Pit was an Angel, not a kid with wax wings strapped to his back! ******************************************************************************* VERSION HISTORY -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Version 1.0 28/08/00 Everything but the LEVEL GUIDE and the POWERING UP PIT/Life & Power sections finished.
