The Map will show the world screen, towns, caves and castles. The general map that is called up when you are NOT in a dungeon is very general, only showing giving you a very broad idea of the world. When in a dungeon, the rooms displayed will be those of the dungeon only. Each time you enter a new room, the cave map will be updated with the new information. The dungeon maps are much more intricate. Dungeon maps will show you the entrances to different rooms. -> One grid on the map will always represent one screen. You can only save 1 Game for every slot. This means that you can either have two different games saved, or have save the same game saved in two different slots. Loading: You can only load a game by accessing the continue option during the main menu. Resting/Turning Off: To reset the game you must press the A, B, Select, and Start buttons at the same time. To access the games main menu you may also turn the GameBoy off, and then back on. However, when you do either of these methods, your game will not be saved. Moving your character --------------------- You move your character around with the directional pad. By pressing left on the directional pad your character will move left. The same applies with pressing the control pad in other directions, right=right, up=up and down=down. In the world screen, you'll also see some towns with people in it. You can talk to these people, or simply avoid them. For the most part, talking to people is not really important, but it does make the game- play more interesting in my opinion. Some terrain your character will be able to move over, but some he will not. By using weapons, your character can cut or smash terrain that blocks your path. Here is a list of terrain that allows travel, doesn't allow travel, and terrain that can be cut or smashed. Geography of the World of Final Fantasy Adventure: Terrain that your character can travel over ------------------------------------------- Meadows - A region covered with low grass Marshes - An area with long damp grass Deserts - Stretches of golden sand Vines - Located on mountain walls Snowfields - A region covered with snow Desert of Crystal - A region with sharp crystals Field of Floating Rocks - A region with large floating rocks Bridges - Log bridges that cross over rivers Terrain that your character CANNOT travel over ---------------------------------------------- *Forests - A region covered with trees Bushes - A region covered with large leafy plants Rock-Walls - The walls of mountains Oasis's - Fountains of water found in the desert Oceans - Large bodies of water around different continents Rivers - Small stretches of water crossing the land Lakes - Small bodies of water surrounded by land Terrain that can be cut or broken to allow travel ------------------------------------------------- Forests - Trees that can be cut by an Axe. Marshes - Vines that can be cut by Sickles Floating Rocks - Rocks that can be smashed by the Morning Star Geography of Dungeons: Stairs/Doors/Damage ------------------- Ascending - Stairs that allow you to move up a floor Descending - Stairs that allow you to move down a floor Door - Can be opened by walking through, but some need Keys. Spikes/Lave/Barriers - When touched deal damage to Hero. Terrain that can be cut or broken to allow travel ------------------------------------------------- Ferns - Can be cut with a Sickle Thorns - Can be cut with an Axe Rocks - Can be smashed with a Mattock or Morning Star Pots - Can be smashed with a Mattock or Morning Star ------------- Battle System ------------- Attacking --------- Weapons: The weapon attack is the most basic kind of attack. To attack enemies, move your character so that the enemy is in range of your weapon. Then press the A button. Every time you successfully hit the enemy he will receive damage. Once his HP's reach 0, he will die. Magic: There are six types of magic that can be used for attacking. To use magic on an enemy you must have the magic equipped. Then, press the B button. Some types of magic only fly in straight lines, while others will require you to manipulate the magic using the Directional Pad. Items: There are eight different types of Items that can be used for attacking the enemy. Item attacks are used the same way as magic attacks and have the same general effect as a magic spell would. However, the damage dealt might be different, and unlike magic, Items have a limited number of uses. Defending --------- When walking on the world screen or in dungeons, you will encounter monsters. If you touch a monster, you will receive damage at once. The only way to prevent damage is to either to avoid the monster, or touch him with your Shield. Your Shield will only work if it is equipped, you have the appropriate type of shield, and your level is higher than that monster. If you have met all these requirements, you can push the monster from your path using the shield. ------------------ Weapon Will Powers ------------------ When you are equipped with a weapon, your Will Meter (found at the bottom of the screen), will increase until it is at its maximum. When it reaches its max, your weapon will attack in a unique way. The same weapon types will have the same unique attack. (i.e., the Broad Sword and the dragon sword do the same thing) The different types of weapons below are listed in the order that they are found in and with a description of what the weapon will do. Type- DESCRIPTION (MAX) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Swords Spin Attack - Press and hold the A button. This will make your character spin with his sword. While spinning you can move him with the directional pad. Charge Attack - Press the A Button and the Directional pad. Your character will charge in the direction you pushed the Directional pad in. Axes It will be thrown in the direction you're facing. Sickle The Sickle will extend longer than normal Chains The Chain will extend longer than normal Spears The Spear will be thrown in the direction you're facing. Morning Star The Morning Star will extend longer than normal. ----- Items ----- Items can be very useful in the game. Many items have properties that magic will not be able to replicate. The different types of items in the game are, items that recover your HP/MP, cure your status, sold for money, open doors and create new routes, and items that can affect your status. Items can only be used a certain number of times, so make sure you are stocked up before you go exploring different caves. ----------- Leveling Up ----------- Every time you defeat a monster you will gain Experience and Gold. After gaining a certain amount of Experience you will gain a level. A message will appear on the screen telling you that your character leveled up, and that your HP/MP has also been restored. Now a new screen will appear. It asks you to choose what type of stat you want to boost. This will allow you to custom make a character. You can create a very powerful character in terms of physical attacks, a very powerful magician with strong magic attacks, or anything in between. The stat you choose will be the primary stat that will be boosted, some stats will also boost a different stat, but to a lesser degree. Types of Stat Growth -------------------- Power ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This will increase the Power rating of your character by 2 points. This will raise the attack power of your character making it easier to defeat monsters. This will also increase your Stamina and Will ratings by 1 point. Stamina ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This will increase the Stamina rating of your character by 2 points. This raises your HP and also concentrates on your character's defense. You will now have less damage dealt to you by enemy attacks. This will also increase your Power and Will ratings by 1 point. Wisdom ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This will increase the Wisdom rating of your character by 2 points. This will give you additional MP and raise the damage caused by your Magic attacks to your enemies. This will also increase your Stamina and Will ratings by 1 point. Will ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This will increase the Will rating of your character by 2 points. This will increase the speed of your gauge allowing your Will Bar to fill up quicker. This will also increase your Stamina and Will ratings by 1 point. ----------------- Status Conditions ----------------- -> There are four different types of status changes that your character can be afflicted with. These conditions are caused by attacks from enemies. 1. Poison --------- Effect- Character loses HP's rapidly Remedy- Magic of Heal or Pure Potion 2. Darkness ----------- Effect- Character is blind Remedy- Magic of Heal or Eye Drop 3. Walkthrough ======================================================================= Note: I have divided my walkthrough into different sections. Each section has a topic name. Below the topic name is a list of items that are found, and a list of items that are necessary to complete each section. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 Shards of Truth - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Nothing The Hero starts his journey in a room next to the Battle Arena. Once the hero walks west into the Arena, a monster(The Jackal), will come out of the north gate. ______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: JACKAL Recommended Level: 1 GP: 0 EXP gained: 0 Attacks: None Best Equipment: Sword Items Gained: None Strategy: This boss is very easy. It has no attacks and moves in a "w" pattern. He will not move below the midpoint of the screen, so as long as you don't move your character up too much, you won't even get hit. After 8 or 9 hits the monster will be defeated. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Jackal is defeated a small narrative will begin. After this narrative you will find yourself next to the bed of your best friend Willy. He tells you to go find Bogard at the falls and to tell him what has happened. * B-Floor 2 * Once you are able to move your character go north one screen. Then talk to the Amanda (the female person walking around). Amanda will play a major role in your quest, so be sure to pay attention to what she has to say. Once the conversation is over go east one screen and walk up the stairs. * Floor 1 * Now go west one screen. Here you have to fight another monster. ______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: JACKAL2 Recommended Level: 1 GP: 0 EXP gained: 0 Attacks: None Best Equipment: Sword Items Gained: None Strategy: Follow the same strategy as before. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the monster is defeated look at the gate and you will notice that it is still open. So, go north through the gate to the next screen. Next, climb down the castle wall and go west one screen. Here you find the Dark Lord and Julius talking together. They are looking for the Mana Tree. After the conversation ends you are seen by the Dark Lord and chased. The Dark Lord will then push you over the waterfall. Your character drops 5 screens and then hits the ground! After a couple of hours the Hero wakes up at the bottom of the waterfall. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 Topple - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Nothing /---\ /---\ e = Entrance/Exit Weapon Shop | |_|C B| A = Inn ----------- | _ | B = Weapon Shop Broad Sword - 60 GP | | | | C = Item Shop Iron Helmet - 140 GP \- -/ \- -/ ] [ ] [ Inn - 10 GP Item Shop /- -\ /- -\ --- --------- | A|_| | Cure (2x) - 40 GP | _ | Eye Drop (x3) - 60 GP | | | | Pure (x3) - 30 GP \-e-/ \---/ Key (x4) - 15 GP Mattock (x7) - 60 GP From the bottom of the falls walk east two screens, south, east, and north. You will now be in the town of Topple. Buy any supplies that you need. I recommend that you buy a couple Cure Potions if you had any trouble dealing with the monsters. While you were fighting, some of the monsters may have left behind a piece of Candy. By using Candy you can recover some of your HP's. Now exit the town. Now go south, and then east one screen. There will be a girl yelling for help! Defeat the monster and talk to the injured man. He tells you to bring the girl to Wendel and to see Bogard. Hmm... this Bogard must be an important man. Hasim, the injured man, will then die. Once he dies the Girl will join your group. The Girl has the ability to recover your HP's if you ASK her. As you continue to fight, you will gain exp and eventually a level up. When you level up, you will have the choice to boost certain attributes. The most profitable way for you to raise your attributes is to have them balanced. For example, choose Power one time, and then choose Wisdom the next. Fight around this general area until you reach level 3 or 4. Once you have over 140 gold, go to Topple and buy the Iron Helmet. Don't forget to equip it! Make sure that you also buy 1 set of Keys at the Item shop. Exit Topple and go east two screens. From here, go south, east, north, west, north, west three times, and north two screens. Then follow the vines around and go south to the next screen. Now go west a screen and climb the vine north to the next screen. Enter Bogard's house. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3 Bogard - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Set of Mattocks Items Needed: 1 Mattock Talk to the old man three times, and on the third time he will reveal his identity. Bogard will talk about what happened many years ago when Vandole tried to gain the power of Mana. The story goes as follows... A woman wearing the pendant, (the Girls mom) gave the Gemma knights hope, which enabled them to beat Vandole. Bogard will then tell you to go see Cibba in Wendel for more information. He then opens the door to his back room. Go north into the room and open the treasure chest for a Mattock. If you want to use the Mattock, go to the Item screen and double click the Mattock. Whenever you want to use an item, hit the "B" button. Unequip the Mattock so you don't accidentally use it. From Bogard's house, go south, east, north, south on the other side of the mountains, and east twice. Then climb down the vine and go into the East Cave. East Cave --------- Items Found: None Items Needed: 1 Mattock * Floor 1 * Go to the southern end of the screen, and use the Mattock to clear a path. After clearing the path, go south two screens and up the stairs. Now go east twice, south, and east. Go into the little house in the middle of the screen. The man offers to sell a Battle Axe for 150 gold. Buy the Battle Axe and also a Pure Potion. Equip the Battle Axe and exit the house. Then go east, south twice, and west three screens. Now enter the building. (As you walked to the building, you may have noticed that you couldn't deal any damage to the Swamp Man. Some monsters are protected against some weapons, so experiment to see which weapons or magic will work on which monsters) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.4 Kett's House - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Cure Spell Items Needed: Nothing Talk to the man by the door and he will tell you that "the room to the east is only for Mr. Lee". In the room to the north there are two people. One of them says the key to the Marsh Cave can be found in the Lizardmen's nest to the south. The other person says that the man threw away a mirror in the Cave of Marsh. Go south from that room, and walk west into another room. Now walk north through the door. Next, go north and walk onto the unoccupied beds. Just before you go to sleep the Girl will find the Book of Cure and give it to you. The Hero will learn the Cure spell. When you wake up in the morning the Girl is gone. Ask the man guarding Mr. Lee's room and he will "say" that he hasn't seen her. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.5 The Bronze Key - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Bronze Key Items Needed: Nothing From outside Kett's house, go east three times, and then south. Fight all the lizards. Once they are defeated, a treasure chest will pop up in the middle of the screen. Now open the treasure chest, go to the item screen, and equip the Bronze Key. Now go north one screen, east, and then north. Now go through the door into the Marsh Cave. * This is a tip on how to gain some quick levels. If you defeat all the monsters in once screen you will notice that if you exit a screen and then go back in, that the monsters will not be there. However, there is a way to get them back. You must go through three other different screens and then go to the screen where you killed the monsters. The monsters will be replenished. Monsters will also be replenished if there is one or more monsters still alive on the screen. So what you need to do is first, fight all the monsters in a screen, but leave one alive. Then exit the screen and go back in. The monsters will have been replenished. You can do this as many times as you want. This trick will let you gain a huge amount of gold and experience. This trick works especially well in the screen with the Lizard Men. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.6 Marsh Cave - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Iron Shield, Fire Spell, Mirror Items Needed: 4 Mattocks, 3 Keys * Floor 1 * As soon as you enter the cave, you will see a man wandering around on the screen. Talk to him and let him join your group. Now walk north, west, and then step on the odd tile near the south wall. Then go down the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go east a screen, and then climb down the vine that is at the end of the log bridge. Now go west a screen, and then go back into the cave. * Floor 3* Now go east one screen. Use a Mattock in the middle of the south wall to make a pathway. Go south a screen and go down across the ice to get the Sickle. Equip the Sickle and use it to cut down the vines around you. Then, backtrack to where you met the man wandering around. (The entrance/exit room of the cave) * Floor 1 * Now go south. (You can kill the blobs with the man's fireballs) Use a Mattock on the west wall, and go west through the opening. If you want to go to the Healing Spring to restore your HP and MP follow these directions, if you don't just skip over this section and read on. (Use a Key and go north. Then push the treasure chest onto the odd tile and go down the stairs. Go south and search the bottom of the pond. It will heal your HP and MP). From the room where you had the option to find the Healing Spring, go west twice, and then north. Use a Key on the east door, and then go through it. Once all the monsters are defeated, a chest will appear. Open the treasure chest for an Iron Shield. Equip the Iron Shield and go west through the door. Use the Sickle to cut down the vines and go north. Then walk east a screen, and use a Mattock on the rock in the northeast corner of the room. Then walk down the stairs to the next floor. * Floor 2 * Climb along the vines and go south. Then go west and into the cave. Then go west, south, use a Key on the door and go through it. Kill the monsters and slide east on the northern most row of ice. Use a Mattock to break the rock, and then go south and break the southern most rock. Step on the switch, save your game, and equip the Cure spell. Now go down the stairs. * Floor 3 * Go east a screen to battle the boss monster of this cave. ______________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Hydra Recommended Level: 13 GP: 94 EXP gained: 10 Attacks: Fireballs Best Equipment: Sickle Items Gained: Magic Book of Fire, Mirror Strategy: To defeat this monster move north as the monster moves south. Then attack the heads as the monster comes up. Once he is moving to the top of the screen go south. Then once the Hydra goes down, move up and attack the heads. This strategy sounds harder than it really is when you are playing the game. The Iron Shield is able to block any fireballs and your Sickle can destroy any of the fireballs. The only real danger is if the Hydra hits you with his body. Keep on doing this until the Hydra dies. _______________________________________________________________________ After defeating the Hydra two treasure chests will appear. Open the first one to learn the spell Fire. Destroy the chest with your weapon and open the second for the Mirror. The Man tells you to show it to the man at Kett's and then the man disappears. You are then warped back outside the cave. Travel back to Kett's and save your game outside the building. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.7 Kett's Dungeon - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Chain Flail, Sleep Spell Items Needed: 5 Mattocks, 2 Keys * Floor 1 * Equip the Mirror and talk to the man guarding the door. He will turn into a Werewolf. Kill him and then go restore your HP and MP at the beds where you found the Cure Spell. (In this cave the Face Orbs and Pirates can only be hurt by the Fire magic). Starting from the room where you fought the Werewolf, go east twice, north, west and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go south and use a Mattock on the east wall. Go east through the hole, north, east, south twice, and west. Use a Mattock to break one of the pots, and then step onto the odd tile. Then go down the new stairs in the southeast corner. * Floor 1 * Go east, north, and use a Key to open the door. Then go north through the door and open the chest to find a Chain Flail. Equip the Chain Flail and use it on the east pole to pull yourself across. Step on the odd tile to remove the blocks that are in your way. Now go south twice, west and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go up the stairs to the north. * Floor 3 * Now go west a screen and use the Chain Flail to pull yourself across the chasm. Then go west a screen and then south down the stairs. * Floor 2 * Now go west a screen, and then north. Kill all the creatures and let your Attack Meter be filled to the MAX. Then use the Chain to go across the gap. (If you accidentally fall in the gap, go north a screen, and up the stairs. Then go south through the door to the room where you fell through the gap). Then, go east twice, north, and west. Push the treasure onto the odd tile, and then go down the stairs. (If you accidentally destroy the treasure chest, go out of the room and then come back in. A new treasure chest will be there) * Floor 1 * Now use a Mattock on the southeast pot, and then go down the stairs. * B-Floor 2 * Go east and use a Key on the door to the south. Go south through the door. Open the second coffin going from right to left, on the bottom row, to find the Girl. (Remember that you can ASK the girl and she will recover your HP) Now you have backtrack to the entrance of Kett's house. (Go north, west, and up the stairs. Then go north up more stairs. Go south and use a Mattock to break the pots. Then go south a screen and walk up the stairs. Then go east, use the Chain, east, and down the stairs. Then go east, north twice, west, south, west, north and then down the stairs. Then go east, south, and west) Make sure you save your game and heal before west to the entrance of Kett's. Now go west through the door. If you run low on HP you can either use the Cure Spell, or ASK the Girl to cure your wounds. _______________________________________________________________________ After defeating Mr. Lee you will get the Magic Book of Sleep. You are then warped outside of Kett's House. The Girl will tell you to travel to Wendel. From outside Kett's, go east three times, south, west, cut down the vines, and then go south. Cibba tells the Girl to stand on the circle. Once the Girl stands on the circle her mother appears. She tells the Girl to guard the Mana Tree with the Gemma knights. Suddenly, the Man who helped you at the cave shows up and says that the town is under attack. He then runs to the Girl and says that he is going to take her to a hiding place. The man who helped you turns into Julius. He then takes the Girl and runs outside. When you are able to move, exit the temple and walk south towards the town entrance. You have the option to avoid or kill the monsters in your path. Once you catch up with Julius outside town, he will zap you with his magic. When you wake up, you will find yourself in the temple with Cibba. Cibba tells you that Julius took the Girl away in the airship. He then gives you the magic spell Heal. You need the Sickle to change the tracks your cart is riding on by hitting the second and third switch. Jump into the mine cart and you will travel west two screens. Don't hit this switch. Now be patient until you reach the next switch as the mine cart goes through two screens west, one south, and one east. The switch you need to hit is near the beginning of the screen and it is north of the tracks. After hitting this switch you will travel south one screen where you have to hit another switch on the east side of the tracks. Now the track will lead to a pile of rocks, which your cart will hit. You are knocked down into the mineshaft. (If you miss or hit the wrong switch, keep on trying until you get it right. There is no time penalty in this cave) * B-Floor 2 * At the bottom of the mineshaft you will meet Watts. He will join your group and help you look for Silver. If you are low on supplies, ASK Watts and he'll let you buy some of the Items he is carrying. Watts also sells X-Cure, which can not be bought until later on in the game. From here, go north and use a Mattock to break the boulder at the north portion of the screen. Then go east and through the door. Break the boulder farthest to the west, and then go south. Use the pond to restore you HP and MP. Then go north and use a Mattock on the boulder farthest east. Now use a Mattock on the east wall, and then go through the hole. First go one screen west of them, and then go back right and start swinging your weapon, preferably your sword, as fast as you can. You will be able to defeat them all, most likely suffering only one hit. I was able to gain 10 levels in 20 minutes here) Then go north twice, you should see an Inn above you. Now use the Battle Axe to chop the trees to your left and then go west twice. Now go north and into the Item Shop. Buy the Silver Helmet, a set of Keys, and a set of Mattocks. The Metal Crab is unable to hit you from here. Equip the Were Axe and wait until your Will Meter is maxed out. Then move down and throw your axe at the Metal Crab's head. If you are careful you should be to defeat him without getting. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Metal Crab is beaten go down the stairs. * BFloor 2 * Go west three times and up the stairs. Once you are out of the cave, go west, south, east, and south. (You can go to an Item Shop by walking east and then north a screen) Otherwise, go south three times, and east. Go to the bottom of the pond and it will restore your HP and MP. Now go west, and north (stay to the right). Then go east, north and east. Take the vine farthest to the right and go north. Then go north and into the Weapon Shop. Buy all new armor and climb south to the bottom of the cliff. Now take left vine and climb north three times. Then go west and use the Axe to chop down the trees to the west. Walk to the north side of the trees and then go east, north twice, east, south, south (use the axe), east, north and into the Golem Cave ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.20 Golem Cave - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Morning Star, Lit Spell Items Needed: 1 Mattock, 2 Keys First off, this cave is very complex. However, if you follow my directions, you should have no problem going through this cave. This cave contains many screens that warp you back to the first screen. * Floor 1 * Go north, east twice, and use a Mattock on the north wall. Go north and then west. On this screen there are four treasure chests and four odd tiles. Place one treasure box onto a tile and then knock it off the tile to open the door. Go north and then east. Use a Key to open the door and go through it. Go east, south three times, east twice and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Now save your game and heal-up. Go east to begin the battle. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Cyclops Recommended Level: 37 GP: 63 EXP gained: 71 Attacks: Mace Best Equipment: Were Axe, Cure Spell Items Gained: Morning Star Strategy: The Cyclops moves to three main points, each of which is on the east side of the screen. Occasionally he will charge horizontally. Stay below him as he charges across the screen and use the Were Axe to hit him. Once he reaches the bottom of the screen go above him. Then hit him as he makes his way up. Follow this general pattern until the monster is defeated. _______________________________________________________________________ Once he is vanquished open the treasure for a Morning Star. Equip this weapon, which adds +10 to your attack. This weapon also is able to break down the same objects and walls your Mattock can... so you can now get rid of all your Mattocks. * Floor 1 * Now go west three times and you will be back at the entrance. Go north, heal-up and save your game. Use a Key on the door and go north. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Golem Recommended Level: 39 GP: 96 EXP gained: 172 Attacks: None Best Equipment: Morning Star, Cure Spell Items Gained: Spell Book of Lit Strategy: The only weapon that you should be using to defeat the Golem is the Morning Star. The Golem can charge vertically and diagonally. Stay at the bottom of the screen for the entire battle. When he charges down move out of the way and hit him with the Morning Star. Do this until the Golem dies. _______________________________________________________________________ He will give you the spell Lit. Now go north, use the Morning Star on the rocks and go up the stairs to the next floor. * Floor 2 * Climb the vine and go east. Then try to go into the cave. Just as you try, the bridge behind you collapses. Your character then comes out next to a waterfall. Now go east twice and into the castle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.21 Dark Castle - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Blood Sword, Pendant (Fake) Items Needed: 3 Keys * Floor 1 * Try going through the main gate to the castle and you will discover that it is locked. You need to find another entrance... so walk west a screen. Now chop some trees down and go west again. Then go north a screen and walk into the door. * B-Floor 2 * Cross the bridge to the north, then the bridge to the west, and go north. Now go east, cross the bridge to the south, east, and walk across the bridge to your north. Now go east a screen and up the stairs. * Floor 1 * Climb the vine above you and go north a screen. * Floor 2 * Now go north another screen. * Floor 5 * (That last vine brings you up a few floors) Now go down the stairs. * Floor 4 * Go down another flight of stairs. * Floor 3 * Now heal-up and save your game. Go west and the Chimera will attack! ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Chimera Recommended Level: 40 GP: 21 EXP gained: 90 Attacks: Fireballs Best Equipment: Morning Star, Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: The monster flies above you and drops two flaming bombs with its wings. Soon after doing this, the Chimera will fly down in a zigzagging type motion. The method that I used to defeat the Chimera was to simply stand near the top of the screen and attack as quickly as I could, curing occasionally. This worked well enough for me, so I am leaving it up to you if you want to fight the Chimera a different way. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the monster is defeated, go down the stairs found in the southwest corner of the screen. * Floor 2 * You are now in the Girl's prison cell. The Girl will run up to you and join your group. She tells you that the Dark Lord took her pendant. Remember, now that the girl is with you, she can heal your HP when you ASK her. Now go down the stairs. * Floor 1 * Then climb up the stairs to the north. * Floor 2 * Now go south down the steps to the next screen. * Floor 1 * Then go west a screen and walk into the building. You can refresh yourself on the bed and buy whatever you need from the Item Shop. Exit the building and go east. Now walk north up the steps to the next floor. * Floor 2 * Now go west three times, south, and into the door. * Floor 3 * Quickly walk across the spikes. Use a Key on the door and go north. Then go east and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the north wall. Then go north through the hole. Go west and then use the Chain Flail to cross over to the odd tile. Stand on the odd tile and a staircase will appear. Go down the stairs. * Floor 2 * Now go north, east, south twice, east, use a Key on the door and go east. Kill the enemies and go to the bed to restore your HP and MP. Then go west three times. The room here has four empty chests on the odd tiles. Do not knock any of them off or the stairs will vanish. I used the Chain Flail to kill the monsters in the room. Now go down the stairs. * Floor 1 * Go east twice and use a Mattock on the east wall. Now go east through the opening you just made. Then go east, north, and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go south, east, and kill all the enemies. Open the chest for the Blood Sword. Then go west, north, and use a Mattock on the north wall. Go north through the opening and use as Key on the door. Go east through the now open door and go up the stairs. * Floor 3 * Go south and west twice. Now freeze two monsters using the Ice spell, and put the snowmen on the odd tiles. Then go down the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go west, north, and up the stairs. * Floor 3 * Then go north, west, heal-up and save your game. Then go up the stairs. * Floor 2 * The Dark Lord is at the top of the castle. The Girl will leave and the fight will begin. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Dark Lord Recommended Level: 41 GP: 167 EXP gained: 12 Attacks: Sword Best Equipment: Morning Star, Cure Spell Items Gained: Fake Pendant Strategy: The Dark Lord will run around and try to hit you with his sword. The Dark Lord is able to use a MAX type attack with his sword and he is able to follow your movements. Dodge around him and strike him until he is defeated. He is very easy to defeat. _______________________________________________________________________ Go south down the stairs. The Girl is gone, mostly likely stolen away by Julius. Your character will automatically exit the castle. As soon as you are outside the castle, you see the Girl walking across the screen. Your character shouts to her, but she can't hear you. Follow her west to the waterfall. The Girl is by the edge of the falls! The Hero asks what is wrong, but the Girl doesn't respond. Then Julius appears between you and the Girl. Apparently, he has hypnotized the Girl! He tells the Girl to use the pendant so the waterfall will be reversed. Once the waterfall starts to flow backwards, Julius will zap you with his magical power. Your character then falls down the waterfall AGAIN! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.22 Ish - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Chocobot (new and improved Chocobo) Items Needed: Nothing S = Entrance/Exit Weapon Shop Inn - 10 GP A = Inn ----------- --- B = Weapon Shop Flame Chain - 6300 GP C = Item Shop Flame Armor - 5625 GP * = Dr. Bowow's House Flame Shield - 4400 GP /---\ /---\ /---\ Item Shop |* |_|A |_| BC| --------- | _ _ | X-Cure (2) - 160 GP | | | | | | Pure (3) - 30 GP \---/ \- -/ \---/ EyeDrop (3) - 60 GP ] [ Soft (3) - 90 GP /- -\ Moogle (3) - 120 GP | | Key (4) - 15 GP | | Mattock (7) - 60 GP | | \-s-/ Your Chocobo finds you and brings you to a house in Ish. Once you are outside, go and buy some new equipment at the Weapon Shop. Then talk to Sarah who is blocking your path. She says that Bogard broke his back and is unable to move. She tells the hero that he is everyone's only hope and that she believes in him. She also mentions that the Chocobo is being fixed up at Doctor Bowow's house. Go west twice and into the house. You will hear some very strange noises just before you enter. While talking to Dr. Bowow, you will discover that your Chocobo can now go on water with his new mechanized legs. The Chocobo also has a new name, Chocobot! Once you exit the house, talk to Bogard once again. Bogard tells you that since Julius has Mana, you will need to find the sword Excalibur if you want to defeat him. He also tells you to go back to Wendel and ask Cibba for more information. Now go back to Dr. Bowow for some directions on how to get to Wendel. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.23 Journey back to Wendel - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Nothing Exit the town and climb onto your Chocobot. If you want, there is a Magic Shop west of Ish. They do sell X-Ether's there, so you might want to consider buying some. Otherwise, go (w,w,n,n,w) from outside of Ish. Walk onto the pier and step out into the water. Then go east seven times, north twice, and then walk onto the pier. Then go north twice and go into Wendel. Go north once and talk to the girl near the top of the screen. Your task now is to find Kary, but first you need to buy weapons and armor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.25 Ice Equipment - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Nothing If you want, you can pick up an armor and shield upgrade at a new shop. This is not necessary to do now, but it will help. There are two different sets of directions below, depending upon where your starting point is. Once you have bought your new stuff, go back to Lorim. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.26 Ice Cave - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Elixir, Ice Sword Items Needed: 2 Keys From the outside of Lorim go south, west, north twice, west, (chop the trees), and go north four screens. If you need some equipment, there is an Item shop west one screen. Otherwise go east twice, south twice, west, south, and east twice. Now go into the cave. * Floor 1 * Go north, walk counter-clockwise around the ice and go north. Go walk to the odd tile and step on it. Go south to the wall and wait for the snowman. Then push him north onto the odd tile. Go east, use the Flame Chain and go north. Use the Chain to cross the ice and go west. Use a Key on the north door and go north. Go east, east, use a Key on the door, go north, and then walk up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go north, west, and onto the ice. Once you are off the ice walk around the rocks and get back onto the ice. Once you have stopped sliding you should be in a room with stairs going down. Now take the bottom left ice path south. Once you are off the ice, walk around the rocks and back on the ice. Once you are off the ice go onto the single path of ice in the middle, which will take you west. Once you are off the ice use a Mattock/ Morning Star on the north wall. Then go north, and up the stairs. * Floor 3 * Use a Mattock/Morning Star on the north wall. Go north to the pond, which will heal your HP and MP. Then go south a screen and west a screen. Then go south to room full of enemies. Kill all of the enemies and open the treasure for an Elixir. Then go north, east, east, and use a Key on the door. Then use a Key on the north door and go through. Then walk to the bottom of the lake, which will restore your HP and MP. Then go onto the ice and west. You can use the Chain to get off the ice. It is easier to get across using the post to the north. Now use a Mattock/Morning Star on the west wall and go west through the hole. Now use the Chain to go across the streams and then go up the stairs. * Floor 4 * Go east, and walk back into the cave. * Floor 3 * Now go east, north, and up the stairs. * Floor 4 * Now heal-up and save your game. Go east to fight the boss. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Kary Recommended Level: 46 GP: 129 EXP gained: 181 Attacks: Icicle Throw, Tail Lash Best Equipment: Flame Chain, Cure Spell Items Gained: Ice Sword Strategy: Kary is only vulnerable in the head region. Also, your Flame Chain is able to destroy the icicles she throws at you. While fighting, you may note that you aren't losing much HP when you are hit... this is because of the Ice Armor that you purchased earlier! Kary's basic movement pattern is to slither up and down on the right side of the screen. While doing this, she shoots icicles across the screen and can moves horizontally across the screen. She moves horizontally in three different spots, top/middle/bottom. The best tactic to use is to stay either above or below her and hit her head. When Kary finishes moving across the middle ice, make your move to the opposite direction of where Kary is moving. _______________________________________________________________________ Once Kary is defeated a treasure chest will appear. Open the chest for the Ice Sword and a transport out of the cave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.27 Lich Cave - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Bone Key, Nuke Spell Items Needed: Nothing Now walk back to Lorim. (w,w,n,e,n,n,w,w,s,s,s,s,e,s,s,e,n,n) Go north into the throne room and talk to the king. Now you need to talk to Cibba who is (s,e,n). He gives you the Bone Key and tells you to go to a cave in the Plain of Floating Rocks to find the Legendary Sword. Although the Hero is supposed to get the Legendary Sword now, I think it is better to get the Nuke spell first. From the outside Lorim go (s,w,n,n,w,s), go into the water, (n,n,n,n,w,n,n,w,w,w,n,n) get onto dry land, (w,s,w,s,w,n) and into the cave. * Floor 1 * Go down the stairs. * B-Floor 2 * Go down the stairs again. * B-Floor 3 * Now heal-up and save your game. Walk north to fight the Lich. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Lich Recommended Level: 48 GP: 220 EXP gained: 198 Attacks: Skulls Best Equipment: Morning Star, Cure Spell Items Gained: Nuke Spell Strategy: The Lich moves in a figure eight pattern. He will occasionally deviate from the pattern, flying off the screen and reappearing on the other side of the screen. He will then start the figure eight pattern again. The best strategy is to have your Cure spell equipped and have the Morning Star equipped. Just stand in the middle of the screen and strike the Lich. The most damaging weapon that the Lich possess are his flying skulls. However, the Morning Star and other weapons will destroy the skulls that the Lich throws. If you hit the Lich at the right time it will pass right over you without dealing damage. If you do this properly the Hero won't take damage. Watch your HP and just hit the Lich alternating with the Cure Spell until the Lich dies. This is one of the toughest bosses, so if you die, keep on trying until you win. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Lich is defeated you will get the final magic spell, Nuke. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.28 Legendary Sword - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Bone Key, 1 Key The Hero now needs to find the Legendary Sword! You now need to find the Plain of Floating Rocks. To get there, you need to follow (part of the way) the same path you used to get the Ice equipment. Here are a couple sets of directions. Each set of directions will lead you to a certain point. There are then new directions on where to go. From outside the Lich Cave go (s,e,n,e,n,e,s,s,w,w,w,w,w,n,n,w,w,n,n,n,n,n,n,w,n,n,w,s) and onto dry land. From outside of Lorim, go (s,w,n,n,w,s,n,n,n,n,w,n,e,e,e,e,e,s,s,s,e,s,s,s,s,w,n,n,w,s) and onto dry land. From the pier south of Wendel, go (s,s,s,s,e,e,s,s,s,s,s,w,n,n,w,s) and onto dry land. Now that you are on dry land, go north and then east a screen. Now use the chain to go across stream, and go south twice, east, south three times, and then west. You are now in the Plain of Floating Rocks. Use the Morning Star to break rocks and go south. (There is an Item Shop one screen to the west) Go south, east, south twice, west, north, and across bridge Now go south twice and into Weapon shop. Buy the Thunder Spear and exit the building. Now go south, east, south, east twice, and north. If you want, you may buy supplies in the Magic Shop. Otherwise go west and use the Bone Key on the Door. Now go into the Cave ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.29 Kraken's Cave - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: 1 Key * Floor 1 * Go north, use a Key, north and use Mattock/Morning Star on east wall. Now go east twice and step on the top tile, then bottom tile, and go through the east door. Now go north twice and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the north wall. Go north and down the stairs. * B-Floor 2 * Heal-up and save your game. Go across the bridge and the Kraken will come out of the water. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Kraken Recommended Level: 47 GP: EXP gained: Attacks: Tentacles Best Equipment: Thunder Spear, Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: The Kraken comes from beneath you and uses its tentacles to stab at your character. The best strategy is to stand directly above the Kraken and stab down as fast as you can at the Kraken's head. The shield will stop about 50% of the Kraken's tentacle blows. If you run low on HP, use the Cure Spell. Also, the Kraken's explosion might damage your character! Once the Kraken is defeated, a new entrance will appear. _______________________________________________________________________ Now exit the cave. You are now on an island. Go east, south, west, north, and into the cave ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.30 Undersea Volcano - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Zues Axe Items Needed: 2 Keys Here is a quick note before you start exploring the cave. The enemies in this cave are very strong, so watch you HP's! * Floor 1 * Go south, west twice, north, and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the west wall. Go west and use the Sickle to clear the vines. Then use the Ice spell to freeze two enemies. Put them on the odd tiles. Then go down the stairs. * B-Floor 2 * Go west and through the door. * B-Floor 3 * Go west, and then north a screen (Walk through the marsh stuff as quickly as possible because it takes about 100 HP off) Walk north, west, south, west, and south. Use a Key on the door and go south again. Kill all the enemies and a treasure chest will appear. Open it for the Zeus Axe. Now go north twice and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the east wall. Go east through the hole and down the stairs. * B-Floor 4 * Go into the new cave opening. * B-Floor 5 * Go north and east twice. Go south twice and go to the bottom of the middle pond to restore your HP and MP. Go north and use a Key on the door. Go east and destroy the bottom-right boulder using a Mattock/Morning Star. Go down the stairs. * B-Floor 6 * You are now in a screen with three doors. Pick the right door. * B-Floor 7 * Now go south, west, and north. Freeze two monsters and put them on the odd tiles. Then, knock away a snowman and go down the stairs * B-Floor 8 * Heal-up and save your game. Go west to fight the Iflyte. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Iflyte Recommended Level: 50 GP: 271 EXP gained: 213 Attacks: Rolling Attack Best Equipment: Thunder Spear , Cure Spell Items Gained: Rusty Sword Strategy: This monster curls itself into a ball and rolls across the screen. Eventually he will stop at the top of the screen and reveal his body. You are able to strike the monster in his head when he is fully revealed. You are also able to hit the monster when he is rolling in a ball, if you strike directly at his center. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the Iflyte dies you get the Rusty Sword. After your character exits the cave, take you're Chocobot with you and go back to Cibba. He tells you to find the Key to Dime Tower, and to talk to Dr. BowowSo now go to Ish and talk to Dr. Bowow. Dr. Bowow says you can use the Nuke spell to blow up a piece of crystal in the Desert of Crystal. The Desert of Crystal is right outside of Ish. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.31 Cave of Ruins - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Dragon Shield, Dragon Sword, Items Needed: Nothing * From outside Ish go west, north twice, and west. There should be two crystals near the middle of the screen. Use the Nuke spell on the right crystal and it will reveal a hole. Go into the hole into the cave. * Floor 1 * Go west twice and down the stairs. * BFloor 2 * Go north, east, and open the chest for a Dragon Shield. Then go west, north twice, west twice, and open the chest for a Dragon Sword. Then go east four times, north three times, and west. Now heal- up/save game. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Mantis Ant Recommended Level: 53 GP: 228 EXP gained: 219 Attacks: Pincers Best Equipment: Dragon Sword , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: This fight is very easy, but remember that those spikes take off a massive amount of HP! The Mantis Ant will stay near the top of the screen and occasionally zigzag down at you. Use your sword on him when he is at the top of the screen and dodge him when he comes down to attack you. However, there is a much easier way to defeat this boss. Have your Fire Spell equipped when you enter the battle. As soon as you enter the screen don't move. Nothing will be able to hit you, and you can cast the Fire Spell at the monster. I was able to win with 20 uses of the spell. _______________________________________________________________________ When you kill the Mantis Ant the east door opens. Go through the door and equip the Rusty Sword. Then stand on the odd tile. The power of the Rusty Sword is released and the Dime Tower will be raised. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.32 Dime Tower - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Dragon Armor Items Needed: 2 Keys By about this time you should be around level 55-60. From outside the Cave of Ruins go south twice, east, south, and west. Try to walk across the screen, and Dime Tower will rise up from the sands. Or if you need to re-supply, go back to Ish. From outside of Ish, the Dime Tower is south and west twice. As soon as you walk in, Dr. Bowow's robot Marcie will join you. If you ASK him he recovers your MP. There are tablets scattered throughout the tower. I recommend reading them if you want to read about the story line of this game. The directions I give do not include directions to the tablets. If you are interested in reading them, use the map of this tower. * Floor 1 * Go west, north twice, east, and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the east wall. Go through east, north, west, and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Go west, south, east, south twice, east, and up the stairs. * Floor 3 * Now climb the vine north a screen. Now go through the door. * Floor 4 * Go west and use a Key on the north door. Go north, east, and open the chest for the Dragon Armor. Go west and use a Mattock/Morning Star on the west wall. Now go west and up the stairs. * Floor 5 * Go south and go into a bed to rest. Your HP and MP will be restored. Go north and up the stairs. * Floor 6 * There are two monsters surrounded by trees to your south. You need to freeze both monsters, which can be difficult, since you don't want to kill them when you chop down the trees. Position your character in the bottom corners, facing the walls away from the trees. Now swing your Axe and the trees will be chopped and the enemies unharmed. Now freeze the monsters and go north. Use a Key on the door and go east. Go south and up the stairs. * Floor 7 * Heal-up and save your game. Go north and the fight will begin. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Garuda Recommended Level: 55 GP: 265 EXP gained: 221 Attacks: Feathers Best Equipment: Flame Chain , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: Garuda will dive across the screen and throw feathers at you. Garuda will also swoop down to the middle of the screen and drop more feathers on you. The trick is to wait in the corner below, but at a striking distance where the tip of your Flame Chain just reaches Garuda. Use your Flame Chain to destroy the feathers Garuda drops and to hit Garuda himself. When he swoops down he will miss you. Then go to the other corner and attack Garuda again. Follow this pattern until the monster is defeated. _______________________________________________________________________ Once Garuda is killed go west twice. Just as you are ready to walk on land, a part of the tower collapses. Marcie tells you that he will throw you over and then jump himself. After he throws you across the gap, the hero tells Marcie to jump. Sadly, Marcie is unable to... The tower will then collapse carrying Marcie with it. The robot's last words are for you to save the world. Once the tower collapses go west three times to the waterfall. The waterfall fall will reverse its flow. Walk into the waterfall and it will carry you up to the top of the mountain. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.33 Tower of Gemma - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Exaclibur Items Needed: 2 Keys Once you are at the top, go west, north twice, and into the temple. Some of the enemies that you fight here will drop very rare Items. The Samurai Warriors will drop Elixirs or the Samurai Armor. The Demon Head will drop an X-Ether or Samurai Helmet. The Elephant will drop the Aegis Shield. * Floor 1 * Go south, east twice, north twice, and use a Key on the north door. Go north and up the stairs. * Floor 2 * Heal-up and save your game. Go north and a Dragon will attack. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Dragon Recommended Level: 57 GP: 262 EXP gained: 0 Attacks: Fire Ball Best Equipment: Thunder Spear , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: The dragon will first move down the left side of the screen. He then zigzags across the screen and goes up the right side of the screen. He will then move across the top of the screen and follow the same pattern. The dragon attacks with fireballs, which you can luckily block with your shield. You may only attack the Dragon in the head, his scales protect him from hits to the body. The Dragon is very slow, so just dodge and then strike him until you win. _______________________________________________________________________ Once he is defeated go into the portal in the northeast corner. * Floor 3 * Go east and into the portal. * Floor 4 * Go north, west, north, and use a key on the door. Go west and into the portal. * Floor 5 * Go east and into the portal. * Floor 6 * Go south and break the west wall. Hit the monster on the odd tile and the door will open. Go east and up the stairs. * Floor 8 * Heal-up and save your game. Go north and the Red Dragon begins will attack. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Red Dragon Recommended Level: 58 GP: 257 EXP gained: 0 Attacks: Fire Ball Best Equipment: Thunder Spear , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: The only differences between this boss and the last are that it moves in the opposite directions and it has more HP. However, the strategy is still the same as for the first Dragon. _______________________________________________________________________ Once he is defeated go into the portal. * Floor 9 * Go west and into the portal. * Floor 10 * Now go north, east, north and into the portal. * Floor 11 * Go east and into the portal. Go south, east twice, and into the portal. * Floor 12 * Use a Key on the door and go west. Go to the bottom of the pond to restore the Hero's HP and MP. Exit the room and go back into the portal. * Floor 11 * Go west, south, and into the portal. Go west and into the portal. * Floor 12 * Go east and use a Key on the door. Now go east through the now open door, and go east twice more. In this room you need you need to freeze a monster. Put the snowman on the odd tile directly above the odd tile in the bottom-left corner. Once the door is open, go north three times, and go up the stairs. * Now heal-up and save your game. Go north and prepare to fight the Dragon Zombie. ____________________________________________________________________ BOSS Name: Dragon Zombie Recommended Level: 60 GP: 270 EXP gained: 0 Attacks: Fire Ball Best Equipment: Thunder Spear , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: The Dragon Zombie is similar to the dragon you fought back at the Cave of Marsh. The Dragon Zombie shoots fireballs from his mouths, and will occasionly move across the screen. Have a long reach weapon equipped and attack its head. Your weapon is able to destory the fireballs and your shield can also block them. The fireballs don't deal you much damage, but if you get hit by the Dragons body, you will lose about 75 hit points. _______________________________________________________________________ Once the monster is killed go into the portal. * Floor 13 * Now go north four times and talk to the Lady (the Girls mom). She transforms your Rusty Sword into the Excalibur. Go north twice, west, south, and west. Heal-up and save your game. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.34 Tree of Mana - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items Found: Nothing Items Needed: Nothing Go north to find Julius and the Girl. Now prepare to fight for the future of the world! ____________________________________________________________________ The first time you have to battle Julius, he transforms himself into three different Julius. Have the Exaclibur equipped and the Cure Spell. Dodge Julius when he swoops down and hit him with your sword. This battle is fairly long but Julius is fairly easy to beat! ------------------------------------------- BOSS Name: Julius (2) Recommended Level: 60 GP: --- EXP gained: --- Attacks: Nuke Best Equipment: Exacalibur , Cure Spell Items Gained: None Strategy: Remember, now that the Girl is with you she can heal some HP if you ASK her. Julius can transport himself to different spots on the screen. The best strategy is to stay in the middle of the screen and attack Julius when he appears. Don't hesitate to use Elixir's, which restore all HP and MP. Eventually you will prevail! _______________________________________________________________________ Congratulations! Now relax and enjoy the ending... even though this is one of the saddest endings that I have seen. ======================================================================= V. Monsters ======================================================================= --> The names of the monsters are from a person whose name I forget. If that person reads this, please send me an email with your name so I can give you proper credit for it. The monsters appear in the order that I encountered them in the game. After you defeat a monster, they will leave your character Gold and Experience. The amount of Gold and Exp. that you receive will not be the same for every monster. The amount of Gold and Exp will even differ when you kill the same type of monster. Larger differences will occur as the amount of Gold and Exp increases. For example, a monster might leave 20 gold one time, 22 the next, and then 21 gold. In cases such as these, I have written down the average value, which is then rounded to the nearest whole number. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) ======================================================================= Last Updated: 11/01/2000 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -> This list is compiled from various emails that I have received. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. What does the Ask command do? A: The Ask command allows you to use the special abilities of certain NPC's. The abilities of NPC's are very important to your quest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. I just got out of the town Jadd and I cannot find the cave of Medusa. Could you help me out? A: The Medusa Cave is hidden. To find the cave follow these directions. From outside of Jadd, go south, east, south, south, east, south, south, west, and north. Now dismount from your Chocobo. You should see two separate palms trees to the north. Now walk a sideways figure 8 around the palm trees. After walking a few complete sideways figure's 8 the cave will open. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. I don't have any Keys or Mattocks left and the only way to go up a floor is to go through a locked door. Do I have to start a new game, or is there something I can do? A: There are two monsters that will leave these items behind. A Skeleton will leave behind Keys when it drops a treasure chest. A FaceOrb will leave behind Mattocks when it drops a treasure chest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. I am stuck behind a treasure chest and can't get by. Now what? A: After opening a treasure chest, you can destroy it with your weapon. If you can't open it, it's because you are full with other items. So, throw a useless item into the Trash Can and open the treasure chest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. I am near Jadd and I can't get past the poison gas. Help!? A: To get past the poison gas you have to kill Davias. To do this, you first need to go to Davias's mansion, free Lester, and then help him avenge his sister. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. What does the Morning Star do? A: The Morning Star can attack enemies and break walls like Mattocks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. I'm in the Cave of Ruins, and I just beat the Mantis Ant. I went right into this room with waterfalls on each side, and a switch. I stepped on the switch and nothing happened. What do I do? A: To activate the switch, you must have the Rusty Sword equipped before you step on the floor switch. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Which crystal do I nuke? A: From outside of Ish go one screen west, north twice, and west. There are two crystals sticking out in the middle of the screen. The right one is the one you nuke. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. What are the most powerful weapons and armor in the game, and where can I find them. A: The most powerful sword is the Excalibur and the most powerful armor you can find is the Aegis Shield, Samurai Helmet, and the Samurai Armor? These pieces of equipment can be found by killing certain enemies in the Tower of Gemma. These are the three different monsters that may leave behind a special weapon or piece of armor. Monster Treasure Chest --------------------------------------- Ninja Elixir or Samurai Armor Demon Head X-Ether or Samurai Helmet Elephant Aegis Shield ======================================================================= XII. Tips, Tricks, and Strategies ======================================================================= 1. The Morning Star can also be used like a Mattock. 2. Ask Commands: You can take very good advantage of this command, especially the ones that refuel your HP and MP. 3. Since NPC's attack in the direction that you move, you can help guide their attacks. 4. Sound test: Press Down + B + Start at the title screen. 5. Easy Money/Exp: Enemies will return to a screen if... 1) You visit three different screens and then go back or 2) If you leave one monster in a screen and then come back. The monsters will have regenerated. This will let you gain money or exp very quickly. 6. Level Upgrades: When you increase in levels always alternate between Power or Wisdom. This will lead to an even build up of status. 7. Selling Weapons: Never sell any of the main weapons unless you get an upgraded version of it. Example: Only sell your Broad Sword after you get the Silver Sword. 8. Killing People: It is possible to kill people in towns, but they have a lot of HP. To defeat them, just keep on hitting them with your weapon with the weapon at its max Will Power. 9. Treasure Chest Tip: This is a trick you can use throughout the game, but is more helpful during the end of the game. What is in a treasure chest is not determined when the chest appears, but instead when you open it. This fact can be taken advantage of when trying to get the Samurai Armor/Helmet and Aegis Shield. First, you must have your item inventory full, but still have room in your Equipment inventory. Then kill the monster carrying the equipment you want until one of them drops a chest. Then try to open the chest. You will get a few "Can't carry!" messages, but the chest will remain closed. Eventually you will get armor instead of an item. This way you don't have to kill a ton of those stupid elephants and only get those useless (as far as I can tell) unicorn items, but instead need only get one to drop a chest. 10. If an empty treasure chest is blocking your path, you can destroy it by attacking it with your weapon. 11. Warps- Here are some fun tricks to try out! Warp 2- In the cave where you get the Ice magic, go to the corner room right before you get the Ice magic. Equip a sword, and put your will to the max. While sliding on the two plates, do the max-move to the right. Press left when you're flying back, and keep pressing left. You'll warp to the cave where you get the star. Warp 3- In the woods west of Wendel, there is one screen where a road runs west to south and another road runs west to east on top of it. On the bottom road, face west. Equip any ax and go to the western limit of the screen. Make sure your limit gage is NOT full and attack to the left, at the same time moving to the left screen. You'll warp to the snowy fields. Warp 4/5- In the last dungeon, there is a long zig-zag road. On the top screen, stand on the farthest place you can go without entering the forest-like place. Repeat the following until you go over the top of the screen and warp to the fire cave. 1. press up 2. press "select" while you're moving one step. (do this quickly) 3. save, reset Use this method in the entrance to snowy fields and you don't have to get off the Chocobo. Game Genie Codes & Game Shark Codes ======================================================================= I have tried most of these codes. However, some are untried... REMEMBER, some of these codes may "mess up" the quest you are playing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FFE-6B9-E62 - Start with 255 in each stat category 40E-A49 - Level goes to 37 Use it at the start of a new game. It will raise your level, hit points, and other stats. You should save your game as soon as possible after using. FFE-A69 - Level goes to 39 Will raise level to 39 at the start of a new game. It will raise your level, hit points, and other stats. You should save your game as soon as possible after using. 406-06A-E6E - Most Items in stores have no prices and are free AA2-ECB-357 - No enemies appear on the screen; glitched enemies replace the real enemies. Bosses appear, but only take off 1 HP of damage. That means this code is basically an invincibility code. This code will glitch if there is a non-glitched enemy on a screen (not a boss) and you swing your weapon. I played for a long time using this code and this only happened on one screen in the game. Also, any other player than the hero will become glitched so this means no other characters in the game. (They will reappear when the story needs them.) ================ Game Shark Codes ================ Infinite Gold - 01FFBeD7 Stamina = ?? - 01??C1D7 Infinite HP - 01FFB2D7 Power = ?? - 01??C2D7 Infinite MP - 01FFB6D7 Will = ?? - 01??B6D7 Max Will - 0163C4D7 Max Stamina - 0163C1D7 ?? = the desired value Max Power - 0163C2D7 Max Wisdom - 0163C3D7 Max HP - 01FFB3D7 Max MP - 01FFB8D7 Level 99 - 0163BAD7 EXP Modifier - 01??BDD7 -------------------- Item Modifier Codes -------------------- ?? = Desired value (Legend is found at bottom) Slot 1 - 01??C5D6 Slot 9 - 01??CDD6 Slot 2 - 01??C6D6 Slot 10 - 01??CED6 Slot 3 - 01??C7D6 Slot 11 - 01??CFD6 Slot 4 - 01??C8D6 Slot 12 - 01??D0D6 Slot 5 - 01??C9D6 Slot 13 - 01??D1D6 Slot 6 - 01??CAD6 Slot 14 - 01??D2D6 Slot 7 - 01??CBD6 Slot 15 - 01??D3D6 Slot 8 - 01??CCD6 Slot 16 - 01??D4D6 -------------------------- Equip Item Modifier Codes -------------------------- Slot 1 - 01??DDD6 Weapon Modifier - 01??E9D6 Slot 2 - 01??DED6 Helmet Modifier - 01??EAD6 Slot 3 - 01??DFD6 Armor Modifier - 01??ECD6 Slot 4 - 01??E0D6 Shield Modifier - 01??EED6 Slot 5 - 01??E1D6 Infinite Item Use (Item-Slot 1) - 0109F0D6 Slot 6 - 01??E2D6 Slot 7 - 01??E3D6 Slot 8 - 01??E4D6 Slot 9 - 01??E5D6 Slot 10 - 01??E6D6 Slot 11 - 01??E7D6 Slot 12 - 01??E8D6 ------------------------------------------------- Quantity Digits to Accompany Item Modifier Codes ------------------------------------------------- 00 - Nothing Weapons -------- 01 - Broad (Sword) 09 - Blood (Sword) 02 - Battle (Axe) 0A - Dragon (Sword) 03 - Sickle 0B - Flame (Sickle) 04 - Chain 0C - Ice (Sword) 05 - Silver (Sword) 0D - Zeus (Axe) 06 - Wind (Spear) 0E - Rusty (Sword) 07 - Were (Axe) 0F - Thunder (Spear) 08 - Star (Mace) 10 - XCalibr (Sword) Armor ----- 11 - Bronze 16 - Ice 12 - Iron 17 - Dragon 13 - Silver 18 - Samurai 14 - Gold 19 - Opal 15 - Flame Shields ------- 1C - Bronze 21 - Dragon 1D - Iron 22 - Aegis 1E - Silver 23 - Opal 1F - Gold 24 - Ice 20 - Flame Helmets ------- 27 - Bronze 2A - Gold 28 - Iron 2B - Opal 29 - Silver 2C - Samurai ======================================================================= XV.
