Outro [OTRO] [1. Intro (INTR)] Hello, and welcome to my Secrets and Bosses Guide for Donkey Kong Land 2! Like with the first DKL, I’ll be covering how to find and beat the bonus rooms in the game, and how to defeat the bosses you’ll encounter during your quest, including the hidden ones. Like before, I hope that the guide helps, but if have left anything out, or you can think of something helpful to add, let me know – I’ll be sure to include it in a future update. [2. About the Game (ABOG)] After the Donkey Kong Country on the SNES was a hit, it was inevitable that there was going to be sequel – which duly followed in 1995, a few months after the release of Donkey Kong Land for the Game Boy. Of course, DKL would also get a sequel, which followed in 1996 – unlike the first game, which took elements from the first DKC but used them to make a new game, DKL2 pretty much took DKC2 and remade it for the Game Boy – but with a few changes to accommodate the fact that it was on a less powerful console – changes that will be documented in this guide. [3. Story (STRY)] Following the last adventure, Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by the Kremlins, who want the banana hoard in exchange for him. Obviously, the Kongs have no intention of handing it over, so Diddy Kong heads off to Crocodile Island – the Kremlins home – to get him back. He isn’t alone though, as Dixie Kong is joining him in his quest, and the rest of the Kongs are also along for the ride. So, pretty much the same plot as Donkey Kong Country 2, but don’t let that fact make you feel that you know what’s about to happen – there’s still surprises in store. [4. Controls (CNTR)] D-Pad – Walk/Run/Climb (When on ropes)/Crouch A – Jump/Fly (Squawks) A in Water - Swim B – Cartwheel (Diddy)/Spin (Dixie)/Dash (Enguarde)/Fire Web (Squitter)/Fire Eggs (Squawks) Hold B & D-Pad – Run/Dash (Rambi) Hold B next to barrel/crate – Pick up (release to throw) Hold B in the air – Helicopter spin (Dixie) Select – Switch to Diddy/Dixie (When both in party)/Special Move (Enguarde/Rambi/Squitter/Rattly) Start – Pause [5. Characters (CHRT)] Diddy Kong Donkey Kong’s sidekick, now stepping into the limelight to rescue DK, and prove he’s just as good a video game hero as he is. Dixie Kong Diddy’s girlfriend, who joins him on the quest to make her mark, and show off her hair-based moves. Donkey Kong The leader of the DK clan, now kidnapped by the Kremlins – can Diddy get him back? Wrinkly Kong Cranky’s wife, who runs Kong Kollege, where the Kongs can find respite, and record their progress – as long as they can pay the fee. Funky Kong The coolest Kong of the bunch, Funky runs Funkys Flights, ready to transport you to previously visited areas of the island – if you can pay for the privilege. Klubba A hulking Kremlin who runs Klubba’s Kiosk – what could be on the other side? Only those who can afford the toll will find out. Kaptain K. Rool The leader of the Kremlins, and the one behind DK’s kidnapping – and he’s not going to give him back without a fight. [6. Animal Helpers (ANHP)] Diddy and Dixie aren’t alone on their quest – they have the help of several animal friends to count on to help them fight the Kremlins and rescue Donkey Kong. Rambi the Rhino Back from Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land, Rambi brings his ability to bash things into play once again. Hold B and Dash to run enemies down with his horn, or hold and release Select for a charge attack. Engaurde the Swordfish Also returning from Donkey Kong Country (he didn’t appear in DKL though), Engaurde is still swimming through Kremlin-infested waters to find underwater secrets. Press B to do a dash attack, or hold and release Select for a dash move. Squawks the Parrot Squawks did appear in DKC, but only in one level where he held a lantern, and you couldn’t ride him – not so this time around! Squawks is ready to take to the skies, and find airborne secrets. Press A to fly, and B to fire eggs. Squitter the Spider Having made his debut in DKC2, Squitter reappears in this portable adventure, ready to catch Kremlins in his web. Press B to fire webs, and Select to turn them into platforms. Be careful though, they don’t last long! Rattly the Rattlesnake Another new one from DKC2, Rattly is ready to jump through Kremlins and obstacles. Press A to jump, or hold and release Select to do a super jump. Clapper the Seal Clapper appears on some water levels, where he can cool or freeze water to make it safe to swim in, or slide across when frozen. However, you can’t transform into him. [7. Pickups (PKPS)] Along the way, Diddy and Dixie will find numerous stuff to collect that will help on their quest, and give them an edge against the Kremlins. Bananas You’ll find bananas almost everywhere – collect 100 of them, and you’ll get an extra life. Banana Bunches These are bunches of 10 bananas. KONG Letters Unlike in the first DKL, the KONG letters will instead give you an extra life if you collect all of them in each level. Banana Coins Even though the rest of the Kong family are willing to help you, they don’t do it for free – collect banana coins to pay for their services. Kremkoins These are the reward for finishing the bonus stages, or beating bosses – collect all of them to pay Klubba to cross his bridge. Balloons Balloons with the Diddy and Dixie’s faces on them – collect them to get an extra life, but be quick – they don’t stay on screen for long! Treasure Chests Pick up these treasure chests and throw them at enemies – do this often enough to break the chests and collect what’s inside. DK Coins On each level, there is a giant DK Coins – collect them to increase Diddy’s standing as a Video Game Hero. Cannonball On some levels, you’ll find a cannonball – you can use them to kill enemies, but if you find the cannon, put the cannonball into it and jump in to be shot to a bonus level. Cannon This is where you put the cannonball. Crate Just a normal crate – put it can be picked up and thrown at enemies. Barrel Again, a normal barrel – put it can be thrown around too. DK Barrel If you’ve lost your partner, break one of these barrels to get them back. TNT Barrel A barrel packed with explosives – can be used to take down enemies, or break walls. Continue Barrel A barrel marked with stars at the half-way point – break it to restart from here if you die. Animal Helper Barrel Occasionally you’ll find a barrel marked with one of your animal friends – break if to transform into them. Bonus Barrel You’ll need to search high and low to find the barrels marked with a giant B – jump into them to enter a bonus level. Cannon Barrel Jump into these to get shot to another part of the level – sometimes right away, other times they wait until you press a button to fire out of them. Also, sometimes they’re still, others they move around – make sure you get the timing right, as you’ll usually find enemies nearby. Also, some of them you can move around yourself with the D-Pad before firing. Invincibility Barrel A barrel with an exclamation point – break it to become invulnerable for a short period of time. [8.1. Secrets Guide Intro (SCGI)] Time to get started on the guide – as with DKL1, I’ll go through all the levels, tell you where to find the bonus rooms, and how to beat them. As before, remember to look around carefully, because you can find bonuses all over the place, so check for suspicious single bananas, banana arrows, and possible openings leading to bonuses. [8.2. Gangplank Galleon (GAGA)] The quest starts out like the first Donkey Kong Land – with Gangplank Galleon. Unlike the first game however, you actually get to explore the ship properly this time! Be prepared to race across the deck, scramble up rigging, and dive into the hold during this stage – but watch out for Kremlin pirates! 1-1: Pirate Panic Bonus Barrel 1: Near the start of the level, there are two bananas hanging in the air – Dixie’s helicopter spin to collect them and keep going right to reach the Bonus Barrel. Bonus: N/A – It’s a shortcut to the end of the level, which also gives you 15 bananas. Bonus Barrel 2: About halfway through the level, just before the continue barrel, you’ll find a stack of barrels – jump up them, and use Dixie’s helicopter hair to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – jump up the barrels to reach the Kremkoin. DK Coin: Just after the continue barrel, there are some more stacked barrels – jump on tip of those to find a cannon barrel that shoots you to the Coin. 1-2: Mainbrace Mayhem DK Coin: After the second rope ladder, go up the slope and drop down to find a new rope ladder – climb down to find the Coin. Bonus Barrel: Back at the sloping platform, go up, and jump to the rope ladder on the left – use Dixie’s helicopter spin to reach the bonus barrel to the right. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Climb around using the ropes to grab the stars and reach the Kremkoin. 1-3: Gangplank Galley Bonus Barrel 1: Go left from the start, and jump up the barrels. Jump to the hooks, and use Dixie’s helicopter spin to the right to find the Bonus Barrel. Bonus: N/A – just a shortcut to the end of the level. Bonus Barrel 2: On the last group of hooks over a bottomless pit, drop off the first hook to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Jump on the enemies to make the Kremkoin appear. DK Coin: In the same group of hooks, jump from either the second or third hook to reach the Coin. 1-4: Lockjaw’s Locker Bonus Barrel: Jump in the water at the start, dive down, and head right. The second crate from the bottom is fake, and leads to a path to the bonus barrel. Bonus: N/A – it’s another shortcut. DK Coin: When you reach the first banana arrow pointing up, go up and to the left. Go through the single crate to find the Coin. 1-5: Topsail Trouble Bonus Barrel 1: Get Rattly at the start, and go left. Jump to the platform, stand on the right edge, and use Super Jump to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: N/A – yet another shortcut. Bonus Barrel 2: A little way on the level, on the left edge, there are two hooks – use those (or use Rattly’s jump) to reach the highest platform, and jump to the left to reach the Bonus Barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use the cannonballs to kill the Kremlins on the ropes. DK Coin: After the treasure chest, jump to the platform above, and use Dixie’s helicopter spin to the left to find the Coin. [8.3. Krem Cauldron (KRCA)] Off the ship, and straight into the fire for this one, as you’ll find yourself making your way through lava caves, climbing mineshafts, traversing swamps, and climbing around on wrecked ships! This world is actually a combination of Crocodile Cauldron and Krem Quay from Donkey Kong Country 2, with one boss – Kudgel – removed, and one level – Bramble Blast - moved to a later world. 2-1: Hothead Hop Bonus Barrel 1: After you get Squitter, go back left to an earlier piece of raised ground – use the web platform to follow the banana arrow pointing left to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the web platforms to reach the Kremkoin. DK Coin: After you get Squitter, use the web platforms to follow the banana arrow right to find the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: When you find a cannonball, carry it right until you reach the cannon – put the ball into the cannon and jump in to find the bonus stage. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Jump on the enemies to make the Kremkoin appear. 2-2: Kannon’s Klaim Bonus Barrel: After the save point, jump on the hook, and jump to the upper-right ledge. Use Dixie’s helicopter spin to reach the upper-left ledge, where the hidden bonus barrel is. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the cannon barrels to reach the Kremkoin. DK Coin: After the save point, you’ll find a barrel you can fire yourself – it will send you to a ledge with a hook to the upper-right – jump to it, and jump over the cannon barrel to reach the ledge with Coin. 2-3: Lava Lagoon Bonus Barrel 1: In the third pool, in the alcove to the left before you jump out is where the bonus barrel is. Bonus: Find the Token – Swim through the maze to find the Kremkoin. DK Coin: When you find the banana arrow pointing up, instead go right, and then up to find the Coin (N.B. – you can swim through the crates to the left for a shortcut back to the main path). Bonus Barrel 2: After the DK Coin, jump out of the pool to the left to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – swim through the water, avoiding the enemies. 2-4: Redhot Ride Bonus Barrel: Cross the gap following the save point, and jump to the upper-left to find a balloon – use that to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Use the balloons to collect the stars. DK Coin: In the third gap following the save point, look for a lone banana near the bottom – go down to find the Coin. 2-5: Squawk’s Shaft Bonus Barrel 1: When being shot out of the second canon barrel, go left to be shot to a ledge where the bonus barrel is. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use the cannon barrels to travel to different platforms, and jump on the enemies to make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: After the first bonus stage, use the cannon barrel to shoot to the upper-left platform, and drop to the left to find the ledge with the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: In the Squawks section, the barrel is in plain sight on the right-hand side. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use Squawks eggs to kill the Zingers and make the KremKoin appear. 2-6: Barrel Bayou Bonus Barrel 1: Head left from the start, and jump onto the barrel. Aim up and left, and shoot to land in the bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use the cannonball to kill the Zingers and make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: You need to be Rambi for this – after the save point, aim and shoot the barrel in these directions – up-right, down, right, and right – you need Rambi because of the Zinger in front of the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: Soon after the coin, you’ll find a cannonball – carry it right to the cannon, put it in, and jump in the cannon. Bonus: Find the Token – Use Squitter to cross the gap and kill the Zingers to get the KremKoin. 2-7: Glimmer’s Galleon (This features a big change from DKC2 – instead of a fish following you around with a lantern, you have to hit Glimmer barrels in order to light up the area – they don’t last long though). Bonus Barrel 1: From the first Glimmer barrel, head right, hitting more Glimmer barrels on the way to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Follow the stars around to collect them and make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: Explore the small crates in the ceiling shortly before the save point – one is fake, and leads to the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: Just before you reach the end target, there are three fake crates in the wall on the right – swim through them, and keep going right – the bonus barrel is above the surface of the water. Bonus: Find the Token – swim through the maze, hitting the Glimmer barrels along the way to find the KremKoin. 2-8: Krockhead Klamber Bonus Barrel: When you get to the last pole in the first gap, jump off to the Flitter to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the barrels to blast across the gap to get to the KremKoin. DK Coin: Shortly after the save point, there are four Flitters – jump on all of them to reach the Coin. 2-9: Rattle Battle Bonus Barrel: Jump up the barrel staircase halfway through the level, and use the Zingers to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the Zingers to reach the KremKoin on the top. DK Coin: Look for an arrow of bananas pointing up – use the Super Jump to reach the Coin. 2-10: Slime Climb (Another change from DKC2 – instead of a fish in the water chasing you, the water itself is poisonous slime – don’t fall in!) DK Coin: After the save point, climb up to the highest point of the first rope ladder, and jump to the Flitter on the left, and to the left again to reach the Coin. Bonus Barrel: After hitting the invincibility barrel, dive into the slime and swim to the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Jump up the platforms, scramble across the rope, drop down the platforms, and across the rope to reach the KremKoin. [8.4. Krazy Kremland (KRKD)] The Kongs chase leads them to Krazy Kremland – a funfair that’s low on fun, but high on Kremlin-fuelled death-traps – get ready to ride a rickety roller coaster, traipse through sticky hornets nests, and navigate a thorny bramble bush in this fairground gone wrong! 3-1: Hornet Hole Bonus Barrel: After climbing the first honey wall, go right to find the invincibility barrel – go back left after breaking it to bounce of the Zinger to the left, and onto another wall. Climb this wall to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Climb up the walls, and drop down the other side to find the token. DK Coin: Just after the No Animals sign, there’s a pit with honey walls – drop down it to find the Coin. 3-2: Target Terror Bonus Barrel 1: Ignore the first Flitter you see, just drop off the track to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Follow the track to the end, jumping over the gaps along the way. DK Coin: After the save point, you’ll need to use two Flitters to reach Tick barrels – the third one you come across will lead you to the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: Just after the DK Coin, do a small jump to land on the bottom section of track – follow it to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Follow the track, jumping over the Zingers and the gaps in the way. 3-3: Bramble Blast (In DKC2, this was part of Krem Quay). Bonus Barrel 1: When you reach the first Flitter, bounce off it to reach a vine – climb up, and across to the left to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the cannon barrels to reach the KremKoin. DK Coin: After the save point, blast up the shaft using the barrels, and head to the lower left are to find barrels that will lead you to the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: When choosing between shooting towards a banana or a barrel, choose the barrel – you’ll be shot to vine. Climb up, and to the right to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use Squawks’s eggs to kill Zingers and make the Kremkoin appear. 3-4: Rickety Race (No bonus barrel on this level). DK Coin: Win the race to receive the Coin at the end. 3-5: Bramble Scramble Bonus Barrel: Just before the save point, use the vines to reach a higher vine, climb up and to the right to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Starts – Scramble across the vines, collecting the stars to make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: After the second Squawks transformation, fly through the upper-right passage to find the Coin. 3-6: Mudhole Marsh Bonus Barrel 1: Look for a banana arrow pointing up, and use the Neckys to reach the barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Jump from reed to reed, collecting the stars to make the KremKoin appear. Bonus Barrel 2: After finding the cannonball, carry it right to the cannon. Bonus: Find the Token – use reeds and jump on Flitters to reach the KremKoin. DK Coin: You collect it after leaving the second bonus stage. 3-7: Rambi Rumble Bonus Barrel 1: Shortly into the level, climb up to the top of a honey wall to find a Flitter – jump on it to reach a cannon barrel, and be shot to a bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Use the cannonballs to kill the enemies and make the KremKoin appear. Bonus Barrel 2: When you’re Rambi, look for two Zingers just before the No Animals sign – bounce off them to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Run right, collecting the stars as you go. DK Coin: After the No Animals sign, fall down the pit, holding left as you do – the Coin is in an alcove. [8.5. Gloomy Gulch (GLGU)] Things get spooky as the Kongs enter Gloomy Gulch, encountering ghostly ropes, Zinger-infested roller coasters, and a plummet down a hornets nest. 4-1: Ghostly Grove Bonus Barrel: Some time after the save barrel, there’s a trail of bananas pointing down – follow it to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Quickly jump across the ghost ropes to find the KremKoin. DK Coin: In plain sight when you reach the goal target – use the ghost rope to collect the Coin. 4-2: Krazy Koaster (This is change from DKC, replacing Haunted Hall, a roller coaster level featuring a ghost Kremlin called Kackle chasing you – Kackle couldn’t be implemented in the game (technical limitations), so this Zinger-infested roller coaster was created instead). Bonus Barrel: Go slow after jumping the first Zinger – after jumping the second one, jump immediately jump again to land on an upper track – follow it to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Follow the track and jump the gaps whilst collecting the stars to collect the KremKoin. DK Coin: After the N, there’s another upper path you need to jump to – follow it to get the Coin. 4-3: Gusty Glade Bonus Barrel 1: Drop off the first hook to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Collect the stars to make the KremKoin appear. Bonus Barrel 2: Some time after the save point, you’ll find a cannonball – carry it right to the cannon. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Kill the enemies to make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: In plain sight above a cannon barrel – shoot out of it to grab the Coin. 4-4: Parrot Chute Panic Bonus Barrel 1: After the first No Animals sign, jump to the left to find a hidden hook – jump from that to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Dodge the enemies and drop down to find the KremKoin. DK Coin: After the save point, jump off the Flitter to find a cannon barrel – jump in to be shot to the Coin. Bonus Barrel 2: Jump off the ledge before the fourth Squawks barrel to find a hook – jump right to find more hooks that take you to the bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – use the barrels to kill Zingers – the final one is hidden to the upper-left – to make the KremKoin appear. 4-5: Web Woods DK Coin: Look for an arrow of bananas pointing down – follow them, sticking close to the wall to find the Coin. Bonus Barrel: At the beginning of the last big gap, drop down, and use the web platforms to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Use the webs to kill the Zingers and cross the gap to find the KremKoin. [8.6. K. Rool’s Keep (KRKE)] Diddy and Dixie finally reach K. Rool’s castle at the top of the island – time to rescue DK! First though, they need to survive slippery ice caverns, another well climb, and spooky dungeons to reach K. Rool! 5-1: Arctic Abyss DK Coin: After the save point, use Dixie’s helicopter spin to reach a ledge to the upper-right – follow it to find the Coin. Bonus Barrel 1: After the DK Coin, stay on the left wall to find an alcove with the bonus barrel inside. Bonus: Find the Token – Swim through to find the KremKoin. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Use the cannon barrels to reach the stars and make the KremKoin appear. 5-3: Dungeon Danger (This is another change from DKC2, as it this level replaces Castle Crush, which had the floor constantly rising – something that couldn’t be done in DKL2, for technical reasons). DK Coin: On the level below the save point, look for a barrel in one of the gaps – drop down to find an invincibility barrel, and the Coin. Bonus Barrel 1: After the save point, search the area to find a cannonball – take it to the cannon in the lower-left. Bonus: Find the Token – Avoid the Kremlins as you clamber right across the chains to the KremKoin. Bonus Barrel 2: Just after leaving the first bonus stage, climb up and head right to find a chain that leads to the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Scramble across the chains to collect the stars and make the KremKoin appear. 5-4: Clappers Cavern DK Coin: Head left from the start, jump up to find an invisible hook – jump right to find a cannon barrel that shoots you to the Coin. Bonus Barrel: Just after the save point, there’s a Flitter – bounce off it to reach the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Jump across the platforms to find the KremKoin. 5-5: Chain Link Chamber Bonus Barrel 1: When you first encounter Krooks, the bonus barrel is behind the second one. Bonus: Collect the Stars – Jump around on the platforms to grab the stars and make the KremKoin appear. DK Coin: After the save point, go down the tunnel after the first Krook you see – the Coin as at the end. Bonus Barrel 2: After the Coin, you’ll find a chain room – follow the single chain in the upper-right to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Destroy Them All – Just head right, killing the enemies to make the KremKoin appear. 5-6: Toxic Tower (Like Slime Climb, you’ve got slime rising up during this level, so don’t hang around). Bonus Barrel: After getting Rattly and jumping up the platforms to the right, head all the way left past the Zinger to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – jump right across the Zingers and Flitters to reach the KremKoin. DK Coin: After leaving the bonus stage, jump up, and use the Kremlin to reach a series of platforms – head left to find the Coin. 5-7: Stronghold Showdown Just head right to find DK – and then have him snatched away again. Yep – that’s it for this level, but not the game... [World 6: The Flying Krock (TFKR)] K. Rool tries to escape in his airship – time to go after him – but not before a final race through the bramble bush. 6-1: Screech’s Sprint Bonus Barrel: On the second vertical rope, go all the way down to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Jump from platform to platform whilst avoiding enemies to reach the KremKoin. DK Coin: During the race, ignore the banana arrows pointing right, and go left and up to find the Coin. [World 7: The Lost World (TLWO)] Nope – you’re not done yet, there’s still one more world to go! To get here, go to Klubba’s Kisok, and give Klubba the 47 KremKoins you need to cross the bridge (if you’re short, go back and find the ones you’ve missed). Once you’ve crossed the bridge, you’ll find the Lost World – a jungle world that also contains a lava cave, and a descent down a glacier, before the final Kong-frontation (sorry!) with K. Rool. Once more thing – there are now no more KremKoins in the bonus stages, instead the prize for completing each one is the DK Coin for that level. 7-1: Jungle Jinx Bonus Barrel: Drop off the third hook of the level, and head right to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Head right, avoiding Zingers and bouncing off Flitters to find the Coin. 7-2: Black Ice Battle Bonus Barrel: On the second down-left slope, jump up to the right to find a hook – jump from hook to hook to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Drop down the slopes avoiding the Zingers to find the Coin. 7-3: Fiery Furnace Bonus Barrel: After the last barrel of the level, jump over the Zinger to the left, and jump off the ledge to find the bonus barrel. Bonus: Find the Token – Jump across the Krockheads to reach the Coin. 7-4: Klobber Karnage Bonus Barrel: Whilst blasting from cannon barrel to cannon barrel towards the end of the level, the bonus barrel is in plain sight – hard to avoid. Bouns: Collect the Stars – Blast from barrel to barrel to collect the stars and make the Coin appear. 7-5: Animal Antics Bonus Barrel: When you reach the save point, drop off the ledge to the left, hug the wall, and hold right to land in an alcove with the bonus barrel. Bonus: Collect the stars – Use squitter’s web platforms to reach the stars and make the Coin appear. [9.1. Boss Guide Intro (BSGI)] On the way to rescuing Donkey Kong, you’ll come across some tough bosses determined to stop you from even reaching him – don’t worry though, because this section will tell you what to expect, and how to beat them. As with the first game, make sure you saved first, and then again afterwards – so you don’t need to beat them again. [9.2. Krow (KROW)] When he swoops down, jump over him. He’ll drop an egg – when it stops moving, grab it and throw it at Krow. Once you’ve done this twice, he’ll float in the corner at the top of the screen, and rain eggs on you. Dodge them, and when one lands on the ground, grab it and throw it at Krow again. Do this twice to defeat him. [9.3. Kleaver (KLVR)] Jump over the fireballs Kleaver throws at you, and jump on the barrel he throws to make a cannonball appear. Pick up and throw it at Kleaver, and jump across the Krockheads to the other side. Repeat the process on the side, and jump back to the start. Kleaver will now charge at you, jump over it, and use the cannon to shoot at him (press B) when he is above the cannon. Jump to the other side, and repeat this to end the fight. [9.4. King Zing (KGZG)] You’re Squawks for this battle, and you have to shoot King Zing from behind using your eggs as he moves around the room. After two hits, he starts dropping Zingers – avoid or shoot them, and keep shooting King Zing – after three more hits he’ll go down, but be careful as he speeds up with each hit! Just dodge him and hit him with the eggs to make him go down. [9.5. Kreepy Krow (KRKR)] Avoid the Neckys that come at you, and grab the egg when it comes down. Throw it at Krow, and repeat the process. After the second hit, climb up using the hooks and the nets whilst dodging the eggs falling down. At the top, repeat the Necky dodging and egg throwing – the eggs bounce this time, so be careful – for another two hits to take Krow down – for good this time. [9.6. K. Rool (part 1)(KRPO) At the start, K. Rool charges at you twice – jump over him both times. Jump the cannonball he fires, and smash the barrel to get a cannonball you can throw at K. Rool – do it, and jump the cannonball he fires. He’ll repeat the whole process from the charging, so do everything again, only with two cannonballs being fired. After that, he’ll do it one more time, but with four cannonballs to dodge. After this, a DK barrel appears – grab it if you need to. K. Rool will then charge twice again, and fire more cannonballs, except this time they can either be jumped over or ducked under, so watch out for this. Break the barrel to get a cannonball again, and throw it at K. Rool once more to make him fire another cannonball, and charge twice again – he pauses in between charges, and moves quickly on the second one, so be careful – before firing spiked cannonballs at you – dodge them, and break the barrel once more to get another cannonball – throw it at K. Rool to beat him – congratulations, you’ve finished the game... ...or have you? [9.7. K. Rool (part 2)(KRPT) No, because you still have the Lost World to go – and at the end of it is this – the real final battle! There’s not really much of a fight here – you just dodge attacks until the barrel appears – but here’s how it goes down: First, jump over K. Rool as he charges you twice, followed by jumping over the cannonballs here fires at you. After that, there’s a gust of wind that tries to blow you towards K. Rool – move in the opposite direction to prevent smashing into him. Jump the single cannonball that is fired next, and then jump K Rool as he charges twice again. Next, he’ll fire more cannonballs – jump or duck them depending on how high they are. More wind next – same as before, and then jump the single cannonball. A DK barrel will appear – grab it if needed. K. Rool will now charge three times – jump them, and dodge the spiked cannonballs he now fires at you. Another wind gust – you should know what to do by now – and another solitary cannonball to jump. Now, things get tricky as K. Rool fires both normal cannonballs (low) and spiked cannonballs (high) at the same time, so stay alert and wait for an opening to jump through them. K. Rool charges another three times afterwards, so jump over him, and then they’ll be another joint-cannonball barrage to dodge – at the end of that, you will FINALLY get the barrel – break it to get a cannonball, throw it at K. Rool – and that’s it! Now, you really have finished the game! [10.
