You have your main character, Pocahontas, who must traverse the levels. For some parts of the game, her raccoon partner, Meeko, will accompany her. Meeko can reach parts and manipulate the environment to allow Pocahontas to proceed in her path. Overall, as might be expected, the controls can be a tad sluggish to work at times. This is particularly bad when climbing tree branches as Pocahontas, who requires delicate maneuvering to not fall off and to properly climb tree branches. Throughout the game, Pocahontas can encounter nine different animals, each of who will lend her a bit of their 'power', which basically gives her new things she can do. Controls -------- Left, Right - Allows Pocahontas and Meeko to move in these directions Up - Pocahontas will look up (If near a cliff with a solid wall) Pocahontas will climb up the cliff Up + A - Jump straight up (Pocahontas) Up + B - Sends out a spectral spirit (Power of the Bear is required, Pocahontas) Down - Pocahontas will crouch (If near a cliff with a solid wall) Pocahontas will lower herself down Down + Left/Right - Pocahontas can crouch walk past enemy guards (Power of the Wolf is required) A - Hop forward (Pocahontas), Jump Up (Meeko). Pocahontas' hop will be turned into a long jump if she is running B - Pocahontas holds out her hands (only a few parts require this during the game) If walking, Pocahontas will break into a run (Power of the Deer is required) Select - Switches the action between Pocahontas' and Meeko's points of view Star - Pauses and Unpauses the game Powers ------ Throughout the fifteen levels, Pocahontas will meet nine animal friends. Each animal will give her an upgrade to her moveset. Deer - Allows Pocahontas to break from a walk into a sprint by pressing B Otter - Allows Pocahontas to swim in water and dive Bird - Allows Pocahontas to fall from cliffs without suffering damage Squirrel - Allows Pocahontas to climb tree branches Fish - Gives Pocahontas a speed boost in her swimming Bear - Lets Pocahontas use the 'Bear Scare' technique to frighten settlers off Wolf - Lets Pocahontas use the crouch-sneak technique Owl - Gives Pocahontas the ability to see in the dark Eagle - Gives Pocahontas a height jump whenever she takes a running leap When it comes to tree branches, it is sometimes hard to do. When standing underneath a branch while on solid ground, Pocahontas must grab it from either side, and it can take several tries from very slight differences in position to grab on. Once Pocahontas climbs up onto a tree branch, if there is one right above her head on the same tree, she must turn around to face the other way, press Up to look up, and then press A to jump straight upwards, and then face the other way again. When jumping from one branch to another tree's branch, do NOT walk and jump. Instead, you should only press A to jump without walking first, or else it is very easy to fall off. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Walkthrough -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ [WALK] To get to a specific level, search [LVxx], where x is the number of the level you want to go to in numerical format. Single digit levels will start with an 0 (ie. [LV01] for right below). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level One -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV01] Start the level off by guiding Pocahontas right, until she hits the cliff face at the end. Press the Select button to switch to Meeko. Guide Meeko the raccoon right to shortly before where Pocahontas is, press the A button to jump, and grab onto one of the two trees in the background. Climb up the tree and get yourself up high, then jump off the right onto the top of the first cliff. Get to the right side of the boulder, and push it off the cliff. Press Select again to switch back to Pocahontas. Have her move the boulder as far right as she can (the controls for this are a bit of a clumsy mix of pressing down and right at the same time). Once the boulder will go no further, press Up when on the boulder to climb up on it, and up again to climb up onto the first cliff. As Pocahontas, head over right to the next cliff. Press Select to return back to Meeko. As the raccoon Meeko, head right and press A, and you will jump up into Pocahontas' arms. Press A again to jump onto the cliff. Switch control back to Pocahontas, and climb up the cliff using the A button. Drop off to the right side of the cliff, ignoring the deer for now, and continue right, climbing up onto steeper cliffs when you can. Head right and up until you hit the end, then turn around and jump up the first high cliff with the A button. Head left up another cliff and then drop down. Once you come to the deer, press the B button and you will gain the power of the deer. When walking from now on, press the B button and Pocahontas will start to run. This is a significant improvement in speed from her slow walk beforehand, so remember to use it. Afterwards, drop off the left side, and then go down right again one cliff, then left all the way, and then right down until you encounter a boulder. Push the boulder off to save the creature trapped underneath, where you shall in the process gain the power of the Otter. This lets you dive and swim in the water, so jump into the water right now. Swimming in the water is fairly easy, as you only have to use the D-Pad. Go down all the way, then head right out into the open body of water. Continue right for a couple of seconds, then go up to break the surface again. Proceed right again until you find a raft, and head to the right side of it. Press left against it while holding the A button to push it left until it hits ground. Now press Select to switch back to Meeko. As Meeko, go right and up the cliffs until you hit the end of the cliff face. Unlike Pocahontas, who could not go off here, Meeko can, and he will take a dive down into the water, and quickly get back onto the small piece of land. Have him jump onto the raft, then switch to Pocahontas. Drag the raft all the way to the right, and get both characters onto the chunk of dry land to finish the level off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Two -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV02] Start by turning Pocahontas around and jumping into the water to the left. Dive down and then go right when you get the chance into a second body of water, then emerge from the water on the dry land to the right. Switch to Meeko, and head right. Meeko shall automatically climb up a hole in the tree onto a branch on the right side. Jump down from the branch onto solid ground again, then head right across the waterleafs to join up with Pocahontas. With Pocahontas again, run to the right until you come to a three-set of cliffs. Climb the right side up the first cliff, then head left and up again. Walk right and then run and jump off at the end, and press A and up and right at the end to grab onto the edge of the cliff, and pull yourself up. From there, go right and go up a couple of more cliffs until you come to a length of flat ground. Proceed along the linear path until you come to a tiny bird on the ground (which is not really easy to identify as such thanks to the lack of graphical prowess on the Game Boy). Press down to crouch and then pick it up with the B button. Head along a ways more until you come to a nest, then crouch and press B again to drop the bird off, gaining the Power of the Bird in the process. The power of the bird will be incredibly helpful - you may have noticed that you take damage from time to time when jumping off a few of the higher-up cliffs. The power of the bird negates that damage, so now you will no longer be taking unnecessary damage. Now that you have your third animal power, jump off the cliff to your right, where you will take a long fall down. Once you hit the bottom, head left and push the log off the edge of the ground. Switch to Meeko, and run right along the ground, dropping off cliff after cliff, until you come to a boulder. Push it right down off the side of the ledge. This shall cause the water level to rise. Jump across the log to the opposite end. As Meeko, continue along to the end. Push the boulder to the left, and walk to where the man is standing. Take control of Pocahontas again. Walk all the way right to where the boulder is, and climb up onto the boulder. You should not be grabbing onto the edge of a cliff: rather, you are trying to grab a hold of the tree-like thing growing out of the ground on the cliff. Once you get that, head up the next ledge, then drop down onto the right. If Meeko is right with you, then the level will end at this point in time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Three -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV03] At the start, as Meeko, jump onto one of the trees close to the beginning, climb up high, then jump off onto the left for a text scene. Afterwards, as Meeko, head down to where the river is, and stop just shy of the water. Return back to Pocahontas, and have her follow Meeko down to the water. Jump in after pushing the small piece of wood into the water, then jump out on the other end. Push the log off the animal and you shall receive the power of the squirrel, which shall allow Pocahontas to grab onto tree branches. Despite what the manual says, there is not really any swinging in this game (though there is in the Genesis version). Switch over back to Meeko, and have him jump over the wood pieces in the water to reunite with Pocahontas. Have Meeko climb up the right most tree as far up as he can, then jump off onto the high cliff. Climb up the next tree and push the boulder off to the left. Use Pocahontas again. Now, as Pocahontas, you have to climb up the tree branches and grab onto them. This is a tricky segment, as it is very possible you will screw up several times. What you have to do is climb up the branch on the right tree, then jump left a few branches, climb straight up, and then jump across a couple more branches again from edge-to-edge (and again, the leeway for grabbing hold is slim). Once you do successfully make it onto the high clifftop, push the boulder right, climb up onto the rock and climb up again to meet up with Meeko. From where you are at right now, have Pocahontas continue walking right and dropping off the face of the cliff. Once she touches ground again, swim down to the bottom, then go left, and swim down and left some more until you can finally go up. Once you resurface, push the log off the fish to gain the power of the Fish, which lets you swim against strong currents. Continue on left to the end to finish the level (you do not need Meeko with you this time). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Four -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV04] The start will be tricky. Switch to Meeko. You should see that the branch extending across the water has highs and lows. Only the highs offer stable ground, so for Meeko to cross the water, you need to jump onto the high sections while avoiding falling into the water. Once Meeko is safely across, switch to Pocahontas and continue on until you fall into another small section of water. Press A + B to pull the raft left, and switch to Meeko to have him get on. Go back to Pocahontas and take the raft across the water, and get both characters back on dry land. Climb up the cliffs one at a time. Meeko should jump into Pocahontas' arms to start and then onto the ledge, while Pocahontas climbs up after him. Once you hit the top of the cliff, continue on down right until you hit the water. Pocahontas can cross safely, but Meeko will need to jump onto each of the wooden pegs to make it across. Once both characters make it back onto the section of dry land the level shall be over. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Five -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV05] This is a rather straightforward level, but it may also be difficult to make your way through. This is because you have to do a lot of tree-climbing with Pocahontas, which can be incredibly frustrating due to the practical brick controls for climbing trees. As Pocahontas, hop down into the small gorge in the ground, and go to the middle tree with the low branch. Hop up onto the branch, then climb up two more branches. Turn around and face right, then jump right. If you timed it right, you should just land on the edge of a ledge. Proceed right from there and land into another small spot carved into the land. Take the only low branch possible and climb up a couple more spots on the tree. Turn left and jump onto the lower of two branches on the tree to your left. On this tree, climb up as high as you can possibly get, then jump one tree again to the left. Climb up as high as you can again, then jump back right a tree. Climb up the one branch, then carefully proceed to jump down slowly along all the trees as the branches also slightly drop in height. If you have been careful and the clumsy controls not impossible for you to work with, you should be able to get onto a high level of ground. From there, head right and drop off onto lower ground. You will come to a sort of reef. Jump across along the wooden pegs (falling into the water here will damage you). Stay on the log in the middle once you hit it, and wait for a few seconds until an animal jumps out, and it will grant you its power. Head right afterwards until you hit the end. Switch to Meeko. Meeko is a lot quicker, as he can directly climb up the trees. Go up the trees and jump off the cliffs, slowly progressing right, and make sure not to fall into the water at the end. Once you join up with Pocahontas the level shall end. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Six -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV06] In this level, unlike before, you will not start off having Meeko around. Start by going DOWN to the right (do not bother climbing up the cliffs at the start), and proceed into the open past the large tree in the background until you come to some cliffs you can climb. Head up three consecutive cliffs, where you shall encounter a wolf. Despite what the game says, you don't have to actually 'race' it. Just walk right along the ground until you drop off, walk right some more, drop off the edge of another cliff, walk some more until you drop off in some water, then swim right to meet the wolf. You will not get any scene this time where Pocahontas gets the wolf's power, so do not worry if you do not get a flash effect. Once done with that, walk back left until you get to the grove of trees with branches. Climb up the low branch, and make your way up until you can go no higher, then jump left to the next tree. Progress climbing upwards and then jumping left until you jump off the last branch and back onto solid ground. Walk left until you go right to where the wolf was originally. From the wolf's original standing point, drop off one cliff to the left, and then go right, pressing as far as you can go, dropping off down to lower ground. From here, proceed to go left again and down slightly until you hit the end of the level, which is slightly below where the beginning began. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Seven -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV07] Start the level off by jumping into the water. Head left, and climb up onto the small rock, then run left until you run into a settler. Press down to crouch, and then walk left to do a 'crouch-walk' which is one of the wolf's powers. After you sneak past the guard, break into a run to jog left for a long period of time until you finally hit a ledge. Climb up, run left for a period of time again, then crouch-walk past the guard. Once you do so successfully, that ends the level. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Eight -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV08] Follow along with John Smith, and jump up the first ledge that you see. Continue on until you reach the large rock standing in your way. Push against the rock along with Smith to push it over, then hop down into the water below and then up the cliff faces to the left. Once you get to the deer, watch a short scene, then follow John Smith up a few more cliffs to the right to the top, where the level will end. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Nine -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV09] You will get a short cutscene where Pocahontas and John Smith run around. This is considered its own separate level, Colors of the Wind, but as you cannot actually do anything, I will not have a separate subsection. Once level nine properly starts, walk right. The one native guard will try to stop you, so use your crouch-walk (down + right) to walk past him, then head down the slopes. You will eventually find a bear standing around, with a cub on the tree that will climb up. This is a bit tricky. You cannot climb up the branch right next to the tree. Instead, you need to continue right until you find another branch that is a bit higher up, but still just low enough that Pocahontas can grab it with her hands (this WILL probably require several tries to grab it, too). Once you successfully get up, climb up a few branches, then make your way a few trees left to the second-to-last tree from the left side (not the last, where the bear was). Climb up to the top to knock the beehive over. Pocahontas will automatically float down and the bear cub will follow. Once you touch on the ground, you shall automatically gain the power of the Bear. Now, whenever you press Up + B, a phantasm of sorts will emerge from Pocahontas. Head right, and you will see a settler laying on the ground with a gun. Use Up + B to scare him away (if you are not fast enough, he shall shoot you, which is instant death). Head right once you are done to finish up with this level. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Ten -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV10] Level ten shall be another fairly short level. Head right, dropping down whenever you have to, climbing across a pile of crates, until you come to some cliffs. Climb up these as well, and then walk a bit. When you see in the background a long row of short shrubs, head to about the middle of where the shrubs are. Wait, and you should see a settler patrolling back and forth, coming close to the edge of the shrubs. So long as you do not cross the shrubs, he will not shoot you, but nor will you be able to frighten him off from that vantage point using the power of the bear. Once the settler touches the edge of the shrubs and walks away, follow after him for a short bit until you are past the 'safety zone' of the shrubs. Once you are, press and hold the Up Button. As soon as the settler comes back into view, quickly press the B button to activate the Bear's power before he can shoot you, so you can chase him off. With that done, proceed east, scaring off another settler, until you get a scene in front of a tent. Afterwards, climb the crates and drop off to the right side to end the level. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Eleven -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV11] This level is rather easy to do, but also rather annoying to fulfill as you have to slug it out with the controls. As Pocahontas, go right until you reach the first crate, but do NOT climb up. Switch back to Meeko, and head over to where Pocahontas is. Once you reach her, jump up into Pocahontas' arms - unfortunately, Meeko cannot clear the crates at all, so you need to jump off of Pocahontas to do so. Switch to Pocahontas again, use her to clear another crate as Meeko, then continue on right. Do the same for the second pile of crates. When you are on the second level of crates, stand slightly to the left of the middle of the two crates under Pocahontas' feet: you need to be this far away from the third, lone crate on top or else Meeko will clear it entirely when he tries to jump from Pocahontas' arms. On the top crate, use Pocahontas again as a launching point to go straight up onto the ship. Chase Percy the dog left and he will jump above the cabin at the left end of the ship. As Meeko, go all the way to the right, and climb the mast here - the white colored sections of the masts are unclimbable, so you have to use the darker colored sections and the nettings next to the mast. Climb up the nettings and mast for a while, then jump left onto the next mast. Repeat this until you hit the last mast on the far left side of the ship. Do NOT jump down. Instead, climb down to the top of the cabin, and chase Percy off the top of the ship to the left. Once you end up at the level entrance again, switch back to Pocahontas and drag her over to the level start to finish it off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Twelve -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV12] Climb up past the pile of goods at the start, then run to the left until you come to two crates, one piled on top of the other. Climb up the crates, then jump up onto the cliff right above Pocahontas. Pull yourself up, then go up several more ledges. Up top, head to the left until you hit a wall, then turn around. Break into a run, and do a running jump to swing Pocahontas over to the slightly higher ledge across the gap. Walk to the end, and take the three left cliffs upwards, using one of the branches as a support to get there. Once you finally make it up onto a long length of solid ground again, head all the way to the end, and stop shortly before you would fall over. Head back right, make yourself some room, then turn around to face left again. Break out into a run. Shortly before you fall off, jump to get a running jump. If you timed it right, Pocahontas should be able to grab onto one of the branches (if not, it is fairly easy to move forward from below ground back to where you were at earlier - use the stack of two crates as a landmark). From the branches, climb up and then head left a tree. Climb up again and move left until you get to the left-most tree, and again be careful to jump off rather than fall off the tree, onto a ledge high above the left entrance to this level. Walk left and off into the distance to finish off the level. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Thirteen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV13] Start with a running jump left onto the sequence of cliffs. Climb up the short ledges, then when you have the two larger cliffs left, head left. Jump up from the left side up the last two cliffs (you will have to move inwards a bit - Pocahontas will not grab right onto the edge, but only slightly inwards on the cliff). Do another running jump to the right side, and climb up the last two cliffs. Climb your way up the four branches on the first tree, then jump left onto the next tree, and climb up to the topmost of five branches. From here, jump left three times, across two trees, and then onto a cliff ledge. This will be tricky now. Head left a bit to give yourself some room, then turn right to stand on the cliff face. Jump right from here. If you did it properly, you should land on one of the lower branches of the left-most tree, which has an owl on it. Touching the owl shall grant you the power of the Owl. After you have obtained it, you will have to go back down to the lower cliffs, and work your way back up to the trees. Head left across the trees to the high cliff on the left side of the stage again, then run left. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Fourteen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV14] At the start, jump onto the gnarled branch of the withered tree. Make your way up the right side of branches, then start jumping to the branches to the left. At the left side, at the far-left branch, you will have to jump onto the branch to the right and up a bit, before turning around and then leaping onto the high ledge. From the ledge, run left for a while, and Pocahontas shall dive off the cliff. Once she lands in water, hop off to the left, and climb up some cliffs. Walk left past the Willow Tree and into the water for a scene, with the level ending afterwards. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level Fifteen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [LV15] In this level, you have to reach John Smith, who is at the other end, within 120 seconds. If you do not screw up any of your jumps, you should easily have about 50 seconds left at the end. Start the level off by pressing any of the D-Pad buttons and Pocahontas shall dive off into the water below. Climb out of the water, and head up the next ledge. From here, break into a run and do a running jump at the end of the cliff to the opposite side. Continue on right until you come to a small grove of trees. Go up the right tree's branches, then jump left and make your way up the second from the left tree. At the top, touch the eagle to encounter its powers, then hop down. Go right until you come to a body of water. Cross the water, but do not walk any further. Instead, break into a run, and do a running jump. With the power of the eagle, you should take a long leap over to where John Smith and Ratcliffe are at.
