Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= As you can see, Bo Jackson apparently sponsored a two-game cartridge featuring baseball and football. Both games are extremely basic as you would expect given the era. It is more of a pick up and play type of game, despite the fact that the controls are rather slow and quite clunky overall. There are better baseball and football games on the Game Boy, so I would skip this one to be honest. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ======== Baseball ======== When you start this game, you will be able to choose the number of innings you would like to play (1-9). Next, you can choose if your team pitches first as the home team (defense) or bats first as the visiting team (offense). After that, you can pick from seven teams; they are all pretty much the same so there is no need to really differentiate between them. The game will then begin. If you are pitching, you will be able to choose the type of pitch that the catcher is requesting. Press A to see the pitcher, who you can move from side to side to line up a pitch. Then, press A twice to pitch the ball. You can go back to the catcher's signs by pressing Select, or view the field by pressing B (useful when attempting to pick off a base runner). When fielding, move the players toward the ball to try and catch it, then throw with B or run towards a base with A. If you are running, you can attempt to make a diving catch by holding a direction and pressing B. When you are at bat, you can move the batter with the Control Pad. Swing by pressing/holding A to swing all the way through. Tap A to hold the bat out and attempt to bunt. If you get on base, you can hold B and tap a direction while waiting for a pitch to attempt to steal. If you hit the ball far, you can continue running the bases by holding the next base's direction and pressing B. As usual, there are four balls for a walk, three strikes to make an out, and three outs in an inning. You score by sending a runner around all of the bases or by hitting a home run into the far seats. When the specified number of innings is complete, the game is over. If it is a tie, you continue playing until the end of the inning when a tie is broken. ======== Football ======== When you choose this game mode, you will first be asked to choose the game length. Once you do that, you can choose to play a Practice game or a regular Competition game. After that, you can choose Heads or Tails for the coin toss before the referee throws the coin. If you win (it's random), you can choose to kick off or receive the ball to start the game. When the actual game begins, you will only be able to see the field length- wise in 15 yard increments. There is no seeing what's ahead of you, only what is currently on the screen. The player you control has a circle around them. If you are on defense, you can press A when near the player with the ball (also circled) to try and tackle them. This seems to have random results as well. When you are on the offense, you press Start to hike the ball and A to pass to the pre-designated target. This can be very tough since you won't be able to see what is ahead of you or near your target, so a successful pass seems to happen entirely by chance. In between each play, you will see a screen with the score, time, timeouts remaining. It also contains other pertinent data such as the current down, how many yards to get first down again, and the yard line you are on. Press Start to go to the playbook, where you can choose the next play. Use Left and Right to move the cursor on the drawing to determine which player you will control at the snap. If you are playing on offense, you will see a timer at the bottom-right of the screen. You must hike the ball before the timer counts down or you will be penalized. Speaking of which, penalties can happen at random as well. When you are on offense, do not move or press anything for at least a full second after all players are in position, or you will be given a 5-yard penalty. Also at the bottom of the screen, you will see the score on each side, as well as the current down/yards to go, and time left in the quarter. When a quarter ends, you simply press Start to continue playing. At half time, you may have to kick off the ball to your opponent, otherwise play continues as it did prior to the end of the last quarter. You score by reaching the opposite end of the field, thus making a touchdown (6 points). You will then get a chance to kick a field goal, which seems to happen automatically as well for an extra point. You then have to kick the ball off to the opponent and play continues. No players have statistics in the football game; Player 1 is the East (white) Team and the computer is the West (black) Team. When the game is over, that is it. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5.
