VERSION UPDATES _______________________________________________________________________________ Version 0.5 - I have laid the groundwork for the walkthrough to be started and completed. I shall add the Walkthrough and Tips & Tricks sections after my vacation. I will be constantly updating this guide as I get new sections of the Walkthrough complete, so check back around July 25th for an update. That includes the Walkthrough. Version 0.6 - Oops. That was the second time I've tried uploading to GameFaqs and my margins are WAY over. I now have a few operations done for the walkthrough. Tips are IN THE WALKTHROUGH. I'm going to upload this maybe tomorrow. My margins are completely fixed. Version 0.65 - Yay! My first update includes an updated Copyrights, and an update in the walkthrough section. (Did not upload) Version 0.7 - Ok, I've taken a break, and gotten nothing done, because I got my wisdom teeth out. Ouch. And, I've been reading books like crazy, but not working on my guide. I should do that. I made some minor updates, but nothing crucial to any readers out there. I plan to get a good chunk of this walkthrough done within a few days. If I go back on my word, I'm going to be so angry. Wait... that makes no sense. Oh well, it's my guide, so I can be crazy in my own guide. Seriously, I will get a lot more operations done. Maybe some research. Version 0.9 - Wow, I really haven't updated this in a while... about a few months. I've gotten back up on my feet, because overall, my computer died on me, twice, my flash drive died once, and I accidentally messed up the formating of this. I'm currently working on completely finishing my tips for the guide, but I've been REALLY distracted lately, so I'm going to finish this really soon, so people can read this guide and go, "Whoa... look at how long it took this guy to complete this guide... either he's lazy, or forgetful, but who cares, 'cause it's an awesome guide. Thank you. _______________________________________________________________________________ Ia. FINALLY, THE INTRODUCTION _______________________________________________________________________________ Hello, and welcome to my first-ever game guide! I appreciate you taking the time to read my guide/FAQ. It is a pleasure to be writing this, because I’ve been going to Gamefaqs so long,I just needed to get my hands on a new game that everybody would be playing. I finished the first Trauma Center game for the Nintendo DS quite recently, in June, because I rented it from my Gamefly subscription. I beat it in three days. Straight playing as quick as possible. Without skipping anything. I loved the gameplay and couldn’t get enough of it. Then I saw a second one coming out in July, and I knew I just had to own it. So, today, I went out and bought it. For once, I can say, “Thank you, K Mart.” And that is the last time I will say that. I also recently went out and bought Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Great game. Oh, and I have a copy of “The World Ends With You” that I got for my birthday. Unfortunately, I just realized I don’t know anybody who has a copy. Oh well, having a complete noise list (not all the drops) and all of the secret reports rocks. Anyway, back to Trauma Center 2. This game by ATLUS is by far one of my favorite games of all time. Yes, it goes right along side Phoenix Wright, Phantom Hourglass, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3, Guitar Hero II & III, Kingdom Hearts I & II, Final Fantasy X & X-2, Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus, Super Smash Brothers, Metroid Prime I & II, Twilight Princess, and the Wind Waker (This sentence was a teacher’s nightmare, so don’t criticize me). The art has significantly changed from the first game, and I don’t think Derek had those freakish looking glasses, and Angie definitely wasn’t wearing that retarded blue outfit that makes her look like Miles Edgeworth (“Objection! That’s IMPOSSIBLE!”). So, thanks for taking time to read my guide, but if you don’t take anything else away from this guide other than what it is, a guide, then you won’t learn anything. Humor is a life lesson that can be learned easily and quickly, but cannot be executed without experience. You may e-mail me at demonic_seer@chess.com. Also, check out my Gaia Online account, under the same name, demonic_seer. Contributions are welcome anytime. If someone beats you to the punch about something, I will mention that and take the best parts from both. Or, I may just take both separately and have to sections for the same thing. You. Are. Welcome. _______________________________________________________________________________ Ic. FINALLY, THE INTRODUCTION… COMPLETE! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IIa. PROLOGUE _______________________________________________________________________________ The Republic of Costigar, Africa… The internal warfare plaguing the people of this country for over a decade has finally come to an end. However, they continue to struggle with attacks by guerilla militants, land mines, and refugees en masse. Still, the country is slowly walking down the path towards peace. Other countries have begun sending aid to Costigar, helping to establish medical institutions. But, the number of doctors needed to staff those facilities has been hopelessly insufficient… Now… A young doctor has come to Zakara, one of the many refugee camps. In these harsh lands that are ill equipped for providing medical care, he will cross paths with a legendary doctor who fought and overcame a disease that once threatened the world. _______________________________________________________________________________ IIa. PROLOGUE… COMPLETE _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IIb. CHARACTERS _______________________________________________________________________________ Derek Stiles - Caduceus USA - Surgeon - Age: 29 Since ending the threat posed by a virus called GUILT three years ago, Derek has become a world renowned doctor. He is dedicated to his employer, Caduceus, and his job: saving patients. During surgery he is intense and collected, not one to crack under pressure or to ever give up. My take: Derek is the main character of the story, and has gone through many hardships involving GUILT, and has saved many peoples’ lives. Whooo! Go Derek! Angie Thompson - Caduceus USA - Nurse - Age: 24 Derek’s surgical assistant. She would follow Derek to the end of the earth, as she is both his anchor and his foil. Though she is well-aware of his surgical prowess, she also finds herself keeping him in line with his medical responsibilities. My take: Angie is a great character, and in the first game (Spoilers), her father turns out to be the person who created GUILT, and in the end survived due to Derek’s medical prowess. His strain of GUILT had a TEN MINUTE TIME LIMIT on it, showing just how hard it was to kill this thing. For me, I killed it in 4 minutes. Adel Tulba - Camp Zakara, Republic of Costigar - Surgeon - Age: 25 This young, African doctor arrives at Camp Zakara with insecurities about his qualifications and no idea what to expect from his new position. Adel works to better himself in the medical field for the sake of his country. My take: Adel is one of the better characters, but I have to say, I really didn't like him freaking out on Derek. (Spoiler) Robert Hoffman - Caduceus USA - Executive Director - Age: 65 He was once a surgeon who also bore the gift of the Healing Touch, but he has long since retired from the surgical frontline. As the director of Caduceus USA, he is a well-respected figurehead in the field. My take: Great man who was in the first game. Sidney Kasal - Caduceus USA - Chief Director - Age: 38 Sidney’s demeanor is generally very serious and business-like, almost to the point of being cold. But, he is the backbone of Caduceus, and a natural leader. My take: Sidney is, again, very serious, and is a valuable asset to Caduceus USA. His life was saved from GUILT in the first Trauma Center for the DS (Thanks again Dr. Stiles). Victor Niguel - Caduceus USA - Head of Research - Age: 29 Victor is a verifiable genius, and he doesn’t hesitate to let anyone know. He is brash, quick to anger, and so dedicated to his job that he often works well into the night. My take: Victor was a certifiable pain in the butt in the first game, but in the end, Derek proved he was smarter than he was after some microchip puzzles. Tyler Chase - Caduceus USA - Surgeon - Age: 29 Tyler is a laid-back guy who attended the same med school as Derek. Although he does his best to avoid work and often shirks his job duties, he can be depended on when it counts. My take: This lazy friend of Derek’s owes Derek a debt for saving his little sister from a completely new strain of GUILT at the time - MOVING TUMORS (forgot the name)! Leslie Sears - Caduceus USA - Nurse - Age: 29 One of Caduceus’ nurses, she is almost always upbeat and jovial. Her positive attitude filters throughout the hospital, making her a popular nurse among patients. My take: Weird Nurse. I'm not saying any more. Emilio Juarez - ??? - Patient - Age: 17 This young man was one a victim of terrible GUILT-related experiments at the hands of the terrorist organization, Delphi. Admitted to Elysium, he is currently being taken care of by Heather Ross. My take: Emilio is a spanish-speaking patient who was (SPOILER) one of the "Sinners" in the first game for the final guilt missions (not the X-missions). Heather Ross - Elysium - Nurse - Age: 21 Heather is a young nurse with the same international license as Angie. She works at Elysium, a medical facility that specializes in the care of those suffering from intractable diseases. My take: She translates for Emilio, but after an incident, she comes to work at Caduceus USA. _______________________________________________________________________________ IIb. CHARACTERS… COMPLETE! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IIc. CONTROLS _______________________________________________________________________________ While playing Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2, story dialog will appear on the upper screen, while game play takes place on the lower screen (Touch Screen). While the + Control Pad, A Button, and B Button may be used to navigate menus or further conversations, you will have to utilize the Touch Screen to play the operations. The Nintendo DS stylus is the only recommended peripheral for use on the Touch Screen. + Control Pad -- Navigate Menus A Button -- Confirm selection / Continue conversation B Button -- Cancel / Go back X Button -- Not used Y Button -- Not used L Button & R Button -- Select Healing Touch icon SELECT -- Press once to fast-forward conversation START -- Pause the game _______________________________________________________________________________ IIc. CONTROLS… COMPLETE! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IId. PLAYING THE GAME _______________________________________________________________________________ New Game: Select this option to begin a new game. After selecting the game difficulty level, you’ll be prompted to select which save file you would like to use. Once you make your selection, you’ll start in Chapter 1 and proceed through the story. Note: Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 uses an auto-save feature. Once you select a save file, you will be unable to save to a different file without starting a new game from Chapter 1. Load Game: Select this option to continue a previously saved game. Select a save file to load its data by touching it, or use the +Control Pad and the A Button to make a selection. Config: Select this option to adjust the game’s settings. (All sound-related) --- Episode Select: Select which episode you’d like to play. An episode title marked with a diagonal band indicates a stage in which you must perform an operation. You may adjust the difficulty level by touching the “Easy”, “Normal”, and “Hard” tabs to the left of the titles. Pre-Operation: After displaying the characters’ location on the map screen, these sequences progress the story through events and character interactions. Briefing: The nurse responsible for assisting you in the operation will provide you with procedural information regarding the upcoming operation. Operation: Use the stylus to perform the procedure. The nurse assisting you will help you by explaining what steps to take on the upper screen. Results: After a successful operation, the Results Screen will be displayed. Here, your performance will be evaluated and a score assigned. Post-Operation: After the operation, the story will continue and new events may unfold. Then, you will be returned to the Episode Select Screen where a new episode will be unlocked. --- Laser - The laser is applied to wherever you touch the Touch Screen. It will continue for as long as you touch the area, but be careful-- too much exposure will damage organs. If it causes a wound to open up, drain any blood and treat it with antibiotic gel immediately. Antibiotic Gel - Apply gel by touching the affected area and moving the pointer to the areas you’d like to use it. It has many purposes, including the ability to relieve hemorrhaging and provide a small vital boost. Drain - Selecting the drain will cause a long tube to appear upon touching the screen. Touch the area where the fluid is that you would like to drain, and slide the stylus upward, drawing the fluid up the tube. Keep the stylus pushed against the screen until all the fluid or blood is removed from the affected area. Forceps - To extract a foreign object from the patient’s body, select the forceps and touch the object. Slide the object toward the retrieval tray that appears on the right side of the screen without lifting the stylus. Once it is over the tray, you may lift the stylus to successfully extract the object. Note that some objects may be lodged into a patient and must be extracted in the direction it entered the body, and then placed on the retrieval tray. If you lift the stylus without carrying the object all the way to the tray, or attempt to remove a lodged object in the wrong direction, the patient will suffer damage and the object will reset itself back to where it began. You may also be asked to place an object in the patient. Carry the object from the special items tray without removing the stylus from the Touch Screen until it is over the correct location. Scalpel - The scalpel is used to make the initial incision, as well as to excise tumors or expose other problem areas. When the scalpel is called for, a guideline will appear indicating the area needing to be incised. Trace this guideline with the scalpel without removing the stylus from the Touch Screen. If the stylus is lifted before the incision is made, or you stray too far from the guideline, you will miss, and the patient’s vitals will drop. Sutures - Sutures are used to stitch incision areas as well as lacerations. Start at one end of the opening and without lifting the stylus, draw a zigzag pattern along it as though sewing up a wound. If you stray too far from the area or lift the stylus before covering the wound in its entirety, the suture will fail. Try not to draw the zigzag too narrow or too wide. Scanner - The scanner primarily functions as an ultrasound which can be used to detect hidden tumors or other invisible objects. However, it can also be used to view other areas of the operating field. Syringe - When you select this tool, one or more medicine bottles will appear at the bottom of the screen. A two-step process is required to give the patient an injection. First, you have to draw the medication into the syringe, and then it must be administered. Bandage - At the end of the operation, the final step will be to bandage the sutured incision. After applying the antibiotic gel to arrest the bleeding, select the bandage that appears in the lower right hex. With the bandage selected, place the stylus on one side of the incision and slide it in the direction of the incision to the other side. Lift the stylus to apply the bandage. Make sure it is not too short or too long, and that it is centered over the incision. --- CARDIAC ARREST!! - Some patients may undergo cardiac arrest. During fibrillation, the vitals bar will turn red, and the EKG line will begin to shake erratically. The procedure has to come to a complete stop until the heart either resumes its normal pattern or stops beating. If the patient’s heart stops, there are two methods that the doctor may employ to resuscitate them: The Defibrillator or a Heart Massage. THE HEALING TOUCH - As the story progresses, Derek Stiles’ extraordinary power, the Healing Touch, will become available to you. Invoking the Healing Touch will slow down time, allowing you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time and making situations that may have previously seemed very dire more manageable. It can only be used once per operation, though, so don’t use it frivolously. Note: Some operations may require you to implement the Healing Touch in order to progress. _______________________________________________________________________________ IId. PLAYING THE GAME… COMPLETE! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ IIe. MEDICAL TERMS _______________________________________________________________________________ Knowing the following terms may help you understand situations and concepts presented in Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2. Please note, however, that these definitions should under no circumstances be referred to as an authority on medical procedures or practices. --- Auto transplantation - Often abbreviated as “autografting,” this is the process of taking skin from a healthy area of the body in order to repair an area that has been burned or otherwise damaged. Caduceus - An international medical organization that studies and treats intractable diseases. It has many international branches, as well as several across the United states. The game’s protagonist, Derek Stiles, is an employee of one such branch. Cholelithiasis - The presence of gallstones in the gallbladder. CT (Computed Tomography) Scan - A medical imaging method that generates a three-dimensional image from a series of two-dimensional x-rays. Department of Health and Human Services - A US Government organization dedicated to providing high quality health care at low cost and with minimal hassle, through a variety of services and programs. In Trauma Center, it is headed by Secretary James Pierce. Enteritis - An infection that causes the small intestine to become inflamed. It is often a food-borne illness. GIST (Gastrointestinal stromal tumor) - A type of tumor found in the gastrointestinal tract. GUILT (Gangliated Utrophin Immuno Latency Toxin) - A man-made virus engineered by the terrorist group, Delphi. Their plans to use it for bioterrorism were thwarted by the international organization, Caduceus, three years ago. Hemorrhage - The medical term for bleeding. Laceration - The medical term for a wound in which the skin is torn, cut, or punctured. Pericardium - The double-walled sac that contains the heart. Polyp - Any kind of abnormal growth of tissue on a membrane. They may also be classified as tumors. Vitals - A combined reading of a patient’s blood pressure, pulse, and other life signs. It indicates whether or not the patient is still alive. In this game, it is displayed as a number ranging from 0 to 99. Zoonosis - A disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans. _______________________________________________________________________________ IIe. MEDICAL TERMS… COMPLETE! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ III. WALKTHROUGH _______________________________________________________________________________ Note: These tips will be for all difficulty levels, but if there is something different, I will state it. You can get a rank of: C - The worst, just passable B - Pretty good, but still, just passable A - Good S - Great Job XS - Wow. Currently, I've only gotten ONE of these. (On HARD!) CHAPTER 1 - Doctor in a Foreign Land --- 1-1 Refugee Camp Storyline: Introduces Dr. Stiles and Angie. Word on an emergency patient arrives. Angie goes to prepare for the operation. A new doctor, Adel Tulba hits the ground running, and assists Dr. Stiles in the operation. Pre-Op: Lacerations and fractured left leg. Suturing of the lacerations and bone reformation are necessary. The patient was walking through a river when he was attacked by a crocodile. Adel notices that there might be foreign objects in the wounds. Time Limit: 05:00:00 Name: Meeker, Karl (28) Height: 178 cm Weight: 86 kg Objectives: -Arrest the bleeding and suture the external wounds. -Reform the fractured bone Operation: Follow Angie's instructions down to the letter to start out with. First, suture all of the wounds on both legs. Use the stabilizer when Angie tells you to. You need to bring the patient's vitals up to 80, or else Angie won't let you proceed. Following that, use Antibiotic Gel on the smaller wounds, then on the dotted guideline to open up the patient. From now on, whenever I refer to "opening up the patient", I mean using the Gel, then the scalpel on the line.Use the scalpel to open up the patient. Once you are focused on the inside of the knee, you will see multiple bone fragments stuck in the patient. You need to pull the fragments out with the forceps, then use antibiotic gel. **TIP** In order to save time, you can pull all of the fragments of bone out, THEN use the antibiotic gel. Adel will pick out the fragments of "bone" that are really crocodile teeth. After this, you need to use the forceps to grab the end of the knee bone and put it back in place. Then you have to place the bone fragments back on the remaining part of the knee. It's kind of like a puzzle. A really easy puzzle. Lastly, you need to use the antibiotic gel on the bone to fix it in place. Suture the incision, then use antibiotic gel on it. Finally, you put a bandage on the incision to finish the operation. Yay! It doesn't get any easier than this. Special Bonus - Easy -No misses 500 -Completed with 1:80 left 600 -MAX CHAIN Over 20 500 -6 COOL's earned 400 Special Bonus - Normal -No misses 500 -Completed with 2:20 left 600 -MAX CHAIN Over 30 500 -8 COOL's earned 400 Special Bonus - Hard -No misses 500 -Completed with 2:40 left 600 -MAX CHAIN Over 40 500 -10 COOL's earned 400 Post-Op: Adel is amazed at how quick Dr. Stiles really is with his Healing Touch. Angie and Derek talk with Dr. Tulba. --- 1-2 Master Surgeon PLOT ONLY - NO OPERATION (I don't like spoiling the plot for people) --- 1-3 Novice Mistake Storyline: Adel misdiagnoses a patient... he says it's food poisoning, when it is really GIST (gastrointestinal tumors). Pre-Op: Tumors in the small intestine. Treatment of all tumors is required. This will be your first time using the Powell Procedure. Time Limit: 05:00:00 Name: Edjangue, Dagi Height: 171 cm Weight: 101 kg Objectives: - Excise and extract the tumors in the small intestine. - Treat the small tumors that form. Operation: Open up the patient. Angie will walk you through the removal of one tumor and it's mini-tumors. You just need to burn off the mini-tumors with the laser, drain any blood, and use the antibiotic gel on them. **TIP** Again, if you want to save time, zap all of the mini-tumors with the laser, THEN finish with them, don't do them one at a time. It taks way too long. After that, you will use the Ultrasound on the area where the mini-tumors were. All you have to do after this is scalpel the dotted line, drain the cytoplasm, cut around the tumor on the dotted line, take the tumor out with the forceps, put a synthetic membrane on the open area, then use the antibiotic gel on the membrane. Then you have to dispose of the other mini-tumors. After this, the view will switch to a different area of the small intestine. You now have to take out three tumors. It really isn't that hard if you do them one at a time. **TIP** If you cut open the tumors, but only from that point do one at a time, if you forget where one was on the ultrasound, you will save time. This comes in handy in situations where blood hemmorages form, too. Oh, and when I say taking out the tumors, I mean get rid of the mini-tumors with them too. After that, you just have to close up the patient the same way you did the first operation.
