Introduction =============== Star Fox Command is the first handheld Star Fox and also the first Star Fox for the Nintendo DS. This game was released in North America on August 28th, 2006 and in Japan on August 3rd, 2006. This Star Fox game has compatibility with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, supporting up to 4-player dogfights, and random battles at will. The Story Prologue: Years ago, a scientist named Dr. Andross became obsessed with controlling the Lylat System. He launched wave after wave of attack fighters from the remote planet of Venom and ordered them to strike Planet Corneria -- the heart of the Lylat System. However, four brave pilots who made up a squadron known as Star Fox finally put an end to the doctor's mad ambitions. Andross himself was defeated by the leader of Star Fox; a brilliant pilot named Fox McCloud. In the time that followed, Venom became known as a quarantine planet. Due to that reputation -- and the frequent patrols carried out by members of the Cornerian military -- it has been years since anybody set foot on the planet's surface. But after a period of quiet, Venom struck back with devastating attacks on the Lylat system. Any and all attempts at resistance were brushed aside, and soon all cities came under the grip of this new, terrifying enemy. The occupiers were known as the Anglars, and operated under the control of the Anglar Emperor. Their headquarters were located in the toxic Venom Sea, a vast ocean so inhospitable that it was believed no living thing could survive there. The members of Star Fox, the heroic and famous squadron that had come to Lylat's aid in her hour of need, had disbanded. Each pilot was living a new life, and it would prove a difficult task to bring the former team members back together. Fox McCloud, the team's leader, was wandering the galaxy with his friend ROB, a navigation robot that he inherited after his father's passing. Fox used this time to tie up a few loose ends and also ponder the course his life had taken. The Cornerian military hero, General Pepper fell ill, and could no longer lead as he once did. He recommended that Peppy Hare, Star Fox team member and father figure to Fox, be promoted and given command of all Cornerian forces. Brash pilot Falco Lombardi lived as a loner. He drifted from job to job, searching for the same thrill he felt as a member of Star Fox. But his existance was mostly an empty one...something that annoyed him more than he would admit. The technical brains behind the team, and Fox's closest friend, was the good- natured Slippy Toad. Slippy met and fell in love with a girl named Amanda, and decided to leave the world of flying and start a new life with his beloved fiancee. Star Wolf, the true rivals of Star Fox, continued to be involved in dirty dealings. Their work soon caught the attention of the Cornerian military, who put a massive bounty on their heads. And finally, Krystal. The lone female of the group, she had fought beside Fox and fell in love with him -- much against her better judgment and professional concern. Her love was returned, however, and the two promised to remain together always. But Fox was quite wary of the danger that haunted pilots in the elite Star Fox squadron, and he eventually forced Krystal to leave the team. Heartbroken and ashamed, she fled from Fox and vanished soon after. No one knows what became of her... Now, the past has come to haunt them all. Unwilling or unable to face his former team, Fox has chosen to take on the entire Anglar armada by himself. Can he do it? Will the team put aside their differences and reunite? All Lylat waits for the answers... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =========== b. Basic Strategy and Tips ========================== --------- MAP MODE: --------- The main point of the single-player campaign is to collect all of the enemy cores in a stage. You must clear enemy groups or shoot them down with missles from the Great Fox and destroy all of the enemy motherships on the Map Screen. The Map Screen will also show bonus items up for grabs, and they are usually time capsules or missles, making the stage a bit easier. One quick way of clearing stages is to locate the largest squadron of enemies, usually 4 or 5 dots, and take them down with a missile. It saves time, health, and more importantly, you will often grab a ton of cores from them. Clear as much fog as you can on fog-of-war missions, and try suspicious areas to uncover bases, enemies, or bonus items. Your own squadron can be directed to their destination by tapping them and drawing paths for them. If an enemy crosses your path, you'll have to engage that enemy squadron. Missiles from enemy bases will occasionally be launched, and you MUST intercept them and destroy them before they hit the Great Fox. If you fail to destroy a missile or an enemy squadron, they will move an additional distance closer to the Great Fox, so repeated failures are not an option. Your ships can move a certain distance depending on its fuel meter when you draw their paths. Friendly bases, which are white marks on the map, can boost a ship's fuel meter considerably, allowing it to cover greater distances. Use this well to grab any power-ups or to quickly intercept enemy bases or squadrons. Power-ups are scattered everywhere, and some, like the Supply Rings, may not be too terribly important, but it's a good idea to pick these up, especially the fuel cells and missiles. Enemies are red dots on the map, and can be made up of many different enemy types, depending on the level. They will always target the Great Fox, so they must be destroyed before they can get to the Great Fox. There are little >> marks to represent how fast they can move, > being the slowest, >> being a little faster, and >>> being very fast and difficult to watch out for. Red striped areas on the map indicate no-fly zones, so you can't fly over them. However, enemy missiles CAN pass over these zones, so be prepared to encounter missiles as they go over these zones. Missiles can't be shot down by the Great Fox's missiles, you have to take them out manually. When you encounter enemies, select their panels and get ready to destroy them. Usually the main type of enemy you see when you encounter a squadron is the type that contains cores, and by collecting all of the cores from them, the squadron is defeated and you earn extra time from the amount of enemies shot down. If EVERY single enemy is shot down, you will earn a PERFECT and earn an extra missile for the Great Fox. Keep in mind, that when you shoot down enemies with the Great Fox, you DON'T gain any time or items, so use those missiles wisely. ------------------------- Motherships/Missile Bases ------------------------- These are the red colored bases on the map. If a ship hits the mothership base, it will stop its path and engage it. Mothership encounters are a little different than normal encounters. The stage does not end when you collect the cores from the main enemies. Instead, after clearing out the enemies and taking the cores, you will have to go through a series of beacons which look like this: _______________________ | | | | | | | | | + | | | | | | | |_______________________| (excuse the poor ASCII) ...And then do a rolling attack into the mothership to destroy it. If you miss a beacon, or don't roll into the mothership, you will automatically die, so don't mess up! As an added bonus, if you fly directly through the + in a beacon, you will earn an extra second for the time limit. Bases with missile icons next to them, signal that they are going to launch a missile in the next turn if not taken care of. You can also tap the base on the map to check how many cores they have, and how many turns they have before they launch another missile. -------- Missiles -------- To destroy missiles, you have to go through the beacons, similar to the mothership levels, and shoot it down with your lasers. Do it quick, because the more beacons you go through, the faster you go, and the harder it is to go through the beacons. Characters with lock-on can destroy the missile with a full lock-on. If you fail to destroy the missile, it will move closer to the Great Fox and eventually destroy it, ending in a mission failure. These CANNOT be shot down by the Great Fox's missiles and can pass through no-fly zones. ------ Bosses ------ When certain stages are cleared, a boss will challenge you, signified by a warning. The boss must be defeated to clear the stage and you can use any available pilots to defeat it. R.O.B. will often point out its weak points during the battle, so be sure to exploit them in order to win. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================= e. Mission Walkthroughs ======================= e)i. Training - Controlling the Fighter Simply fly through the 25 rings placed in a curve pattern. You can use this to practice your flying, steering, speed boosts and brakes. R.O.B. will teach you the basics of flying throughout the course of this practice mission. e)ii. Training - Combat Techniques You have to destroy 30 Anglar ships and collect the cores they leave behind. They can be taken down with one shot, so use this mission as practice for lock-ons and dropping bombs strategically. In order to pick up the enemy cores easier, you can barrel roll and they will be guided toward your ship. e)iii. Training - Barrel Rolls You must destroy the 5 enemy towers and collect their cores. They will shoot at you, so rub the stylus back and forth on the touch screen to barrel roll. This will deflect enemy fire and give you a time bonus too. Use this mission to perfect barrel rolling, but it will consume the boost meter, so be careful. e)iv. Training - The Time System This introduces the time system of the game. Basically, you only have 30 seconds to destroy 15 enemies and collect their cores. If time runs out, you lose a life, simple as that. It also introduces the bar meter above the timer. For every 5 enemies you destroy, a bonus will appear, in most cases, a time capsule that adds 25 seconds to your current time. Flying through rings will also give you bonus items. Use this mission to prepare for the main game, which will have destroying tons of enemies with a constant timer. =================================== Mission Walkthroughs (Default Path) =================================== -------------------------------- THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! Slippy will appear on Turn 3 to help you out with the enemies. Let him encounter the rest of the enemies. His Plasma Shots will make quick work of them, but he has no lock-on and a weak boost meter. Finish off any remaining enemies and you're done! Mission Complete ----------------------- FOG OF WAR (Fichina) Cores to Collect: 13 Turns: 4 Time Limit: 150 seconds ----------------------- Fog hides enemies, items, and bases, More fog will roll in each turn.
