Talk to him with an empty party slot to get the egg. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An egg group is what determines whether two Pokemon are compatible or not, when breeding. Every Pokemon belongs to either one or two egg groups, no more. For example, Pikachu and Clefairy are both in the "Fairy" egg group, so they can successfully breed. Pikachu also belongs to the "Ground" egg group, so it could breed with a Vulpix or an Eevee (both in the Ground group). A Pikachu could never breed with an Oddish, since Oddish does not belong to the "Fairy" group OR the "Ground" group. You can often tell whether two Pokemon are compatible or not just by looking (birds can generally breed with birds, plants with plants, etc). Because of overlapping and/or broad egg groups, there are some decidedly odd combinations, such as Skitty and Wailord (both in the Ground group). This particular pair has spawned a meme known as "Hot Skitty on Wailord Action" (HSOWA). Also, one quick tip when breeding Pokemon--bring along a 'mon with either Flame Body or Magma Armor as its ability, and the number of steps that any egg would normally take to be hatched will be halved. So any Pokemon with roughly 10k hatch steps would then have just 5k, for example. =============================================================================== 2. Passing Down Moves Through Chain Breeding [PASS] =============================================================================== Chain breeding is the act of breeding different species of Pokemon across several generations to produce one final Pokemon with the desired species and move. It's important to know about egg groups, so you can design a successful chain. Here's an example: You have a Golduck (M) who has learned Amnesia through leveling up. You have an Azumarill (F) who is compatible with the Golduck. You also have a Clefable (F). You breed the Golduck and Azumarill, and Amnesia gets passed on to the offspring, a Marill (M). You breed the Marill (M) with the Clefable (F) to get a Cleffa that knows Amnesia. Neither Azumarill nor Clefable could normally learn Amnesia unless it was inherited from a parent. Clefable can't breed with Golduck, which is why you'd need to first get an Amnesia-knowing Marill.
