It can be obtained by talking to the president of the Pokémon Fan Club, found in Hearthome City. ----+ COOKING POFFINS In order to make Poffins, simply visit the Poffin House. This is also found in Hearthome City. Inside, speak to the woman standing next to the Poffin Cooker. This device allows you to cook Berries, which will then turn into a delicious Poffin. ----+ POFFIN REWARDS Feeding a Poffin to a Pokémon raises that Pokémon's happiness, and also improves that Pokémons Conditions. These Conditions are used in Super Contests during the Visual Round, and also can provide other rewards. In addition, one Pokémon requires a high Condition in order to evolve. Feebas needs 170 or more points in Beauty to evolve when it levels up. Finally, the Scarf Guy in Pastoria City will reward a Pokémon with 200 or more points in a Condition with a special scarf, which provides a boost to that Condition's score in the Visual Round while it is held, as shown in the chart below. CONDITION REWARD ITEM ITEM'S DESCRIPTION +-------- +---------- +----------------- 200 Cool Red scarf An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the "Cool" aspect of the holder in a Contest. 200 Beauty Blue scarf An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the "Beauty" aspect of the holder in a Contest. 200 Cute Pink scarf An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the "Cute" aspect of the holder in a Contest. 200 Smart Green scarf An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the "Smart" aspect of the holder in a Contest. 200 Tough Yellow Scarf An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the "Tough" aspect of the holder in a Contest. ----+ COOKING TIPS The best way to make a good Poffin is to stir the mix quickly enough to finish as soon as possible - the faster the cooking, the better the Poffin that will result. However, it is important not to stir too quickly for fear of spilling - too many spills will negate any boost you'd receive for speed! Stir fast enough to keep the mix near to the edge of the Poffin Cooker. Poffins are cooked in three stages. The first stage has yellow flames and a light, easy-to-stir mixture. At this point, it is very important not to stir too quickly, as it is easy to spill. The second stage, when the flames turn reddish, the mixture becomes heavy and is more difficult to stir. It is important now to keep the mixture spinning, since if it rests still too much, it will burn and penalize you. When the flames turn blue and the mixture dark, the third and final stage has begun. This is the easiest stage, as the mix is hard and no longer spillable. Spin as quickly as you can, without worry. Otherwise, try cooking Poffins with friends using the local wireless function. With multiple people mixing and causing sparkles to appear, it can be possible to negate the penalties from spills or burns! Once your Poffin-cooking skills have improved, the only remaining improvement would be in the choice of berries used. Some berries are better than others, either due to the flavor values or smoothness. ----+ POFFIN FEEL An important aspect of Poffins are their Feel level. This is related to your Pokémon's Sheen. This value could be considered a "Fullness" value, as when your Pokémon's Sheen value is maximized, it no longer can eat Poffins. Basically, a Poffin's Feel level is put into the Pokémon's Sheen value. If the Sheen would become higher than 255, it is set to 255 and at that point, the Pokémon is full and can never again eat another Poffin. This aspect is so paramount to raising proper Super Contest Pokémon that sometimes, feeding a lower-level Poffin can be much more beneficial than feeding a high-level Poffin, if the Feel values are very different! ----+ NATURE AND PREFERENCES When a Pokémon eats a Poffin, it gains Condition based on the flavor levels of the Poffin. However, these gains in Condition are further changed by that Pokémon's preferences in taste, which are determined by its nature. When adding Condition from a flavor the Pokémon likes, the increase is 10% more than usual, rounding down. When adding Condition from a flavor the Pokémon dislikes, the increase is 10% less than usual, rounding down. It doesn't matter if the Pokémon likes or dislikes the total flavor of the Poffin, just each individual flavor. Thus, a Pokémon that likes Spicy Poffins and dislikes Dry Poffins will still gain a +10% boost to Cool gain when eating a Spicy-Dry Poffin, and still receive the -10% penalty to its Beauty gain as well, even though it neither liked nor disliked the Poffin. The natures and their preferences are given below: NATURE LIKES DISLIKES +-------- +---- +------- Adamant Spicy Dry Brave Spicy Sweet Naughty Spicy Bitter Lonely Spicy Sour Modest Dry Spicy Quiet Dry Sweet Rash Dry Bitter Mild Dry Sour Timid Sweet Spicy Jolly Sweet Dry Naive Sweet Bitter Hasty Sweet Sour Calm Bitter Spicy Careful Bitter Dry Sassy Bitter Sweet Gentle Bitter Sour Bold Sour Spicy Impish Sour Dry Lax Sour Bitter Relaxed Sour Sweet Bashful --- --- Docile --- --- Hardy --- --- Quirky --- --- Four natures will eat anything, and thus receive no benefit nor penalty. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ BERRIES + FLAVOR VALUES SPICY DRY SWEET BITTER SOUR FEEL Grow Base NO. These are calculated using the flavor values indicated on the berry chart. Any given flavor can be cancelled out by another, neutralizing its effect and resulting in a Poffin that does not have any of that flavor. Spiciness is neutralized by Dryness, for example. To calculate the flavor levels, use the following formulas: SPICY LEVEL = SPICY VALUE - DRY VALUE DRY LEVEL = DRY VALUE - SWEET VALUE SWEET LEVEL = SWEET VALUE - BITTER VALUE BITTER LEVEL = BITTER VALUE - SOUR VALUE SOUR LEVEL = SOUR VALUE - SPICY VALUE When using multiple berries in group cooking, add up all similar flavor values before performing the above calculations. For example, two different berries with Spicy Value of 10 and no Dry Value would have a resulting Spicy Level of 20. Now that you know the base flavor levels, you can begin calculating the resulting Poffin. ----+ SPEED The quicker you make your Poffin, the better the result. This is a multiplier that is applied to all flavors in the Poffin. For example, if you took exactly 40 seconds, the 150% multiplier would apply to each Poffin flavor. If the Spicy Level was 20 and the Sweet Level was 10, the result would be 30 Spicy and 15 Sweet. To calculate the new flavor level, use the following formula: NEW FLAVOR LEVEL = OLD FLAVOR LEVEL * ( 60 / TIME IN SECONDS ) Note that the division becomes a percent, so it rounds to the nearest hundredth. As an example, a time of 40:03 would give a result of ~1.498, which will round to 1.5 for a 150% boost. ----+ COOKS & NEGATIVE FLAVORS When cooking with a group or when mixing berries that result in negative flavor levels, a penalty is applied to the resulting Poffin levels. To calculate the flavor level after penalties, use the following formula: FLAVOR LEVEL = OLD FLAVOR LEVEL - min( # COOKS , # NEGATIVE FLAVORS ) Basically, you will receive a penalty equal to the number of cooks or a penalty equal to the number of negative flavor levels, whichever happens to be greater. As an example, if you are cooking alone, you will receive a -1 penalty minimum, due to cooking with one chef. However, if you were to cook using a Pomeg berry, which results in two negative flavor levels (dry and sour), you would receive a -2 penalty instead. ----+ SPILLS & BURNS The last calculation to perform is to apply the penalties for spilling or burning the mixture. To determine the final flavor levels, use the following formula: FINAL FLAVOR LEVEL = OLD FLAVOR LEVEL - # BURNS & SPILLS Each burn and spill is a penalty of -1 to the resulting Poffin. At this point, if the Poffin has no flavor level above 0, the resulting Poffin is an unfortunate Foull Poffin, which has three flavors randomly at Level 2. Otherwise, the Poffin will be of a primary flavor as indicated by its highest flavor level, and may have a secondary flavor as well if it has a second flavor. In the event of a tie, the order is: Spicy, Dry, Sweet, Bitter, Sour For example, you could make a Spicy Poffin, or a Spicy-dry Poffin (which has both Spicy and Dry flavors), or a Dry-spicy Poffin (which has both Spicy and Dry flavors and has more Dry than Spicy). Some Poffins have three or more flavors, and these are given special names instead of simply describing the flavors. The only way to see which flavors these have is by looking at the highlighted circles when examining the Poffin in the Poffin Case, by feeding it to a Pokémon, or by having calculated the result out beforehand. The displayed level of a Poffin is the level of the highest flavor of the Poffin. Thus, a Poffin indicated as Level 19 would have at least one flavor at Level 19. However, the other flavors, if any, may or may not be at 19. ----+ SMOOTHNESS & FEEL Finally, there is a way to determine a Poffin's resulting Feel. Simply average the Smoothness of all berries involved, rounding down, and then subtract a bonus equal to the number of cooks. Cooking alone means you lower the Smoothness of the berry you use by one in order to determine the Feel. Thus, if you were to cook a Cheri berry, it would result in 24 Feel, as the Cheri berry has 25 Smoothness, and you're cooking alone. If you cooked in a group, and the berries involved had 25, 30, and 50 Smoothness, the resulting Feel would be 32. The average Smoothness is 35, and cooking with three players reduces the result by three. In this way, the more players cooking Poffins, the better the resulting Poffin, since a lower Feel means a Pokémon can eat more. ----+ RUINING A POFFIN There are two ways to ruin a Poffin and create a Foul Poffin. If there are enough burns or spills to create a Poffin with no flavor level above 0, the resulting Poffin will be a Foul Poffin. Additionally, if making Poffins with multiple people and two of the same berries are used, the Poffin will again result in a Foul Poffin, no matter what the flavor levels would have been. Be sure to talk to your friends about which berries to use, to avoid Foul Poffins! Foul Poffins have three random flavors at Level 2. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ FEEBAS + ----+ OBTAINING FEEBAS Feebas can be captured in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald by using a fishing rod while on Route 119. However, it is only ever available in eight of the water tiles, chosen randomly and rechosen whenever the Trendy Saying in Dewford changes. Since there are over 100 water tiles on the route, it is a requirement to be able to Surf (and preferably to use Waterfall) in order to fish on all the tiles. Feebas is only found when fishing, and appears about 50% of the time on the eight tiles it appears in, so it's easy to find once its hidden location is found. After catching it in the Advance games, it can be transferred using Pal Park into Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Feebas can also be found in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, in the underground lake at Mt. Coronet. While this lake is smaller than Route 119, Feebas is hiding in only five of its tiles. However, if players join the same Group as one another using local wireless, the Feebas tiles for all players will be the same. In this way, the search can be split up between a few people. Once Feebas has been obtained, it is another matter entirely to evolve it into the fabulous Milotic. Feebas truly is unique; not only does it have a unique method of encounter, but it also has a unique evolution method. ----+ EVOLVING FEEBAS Feebas evolves into Milotic only if its Beauty level is 170 or higher at the time it levels up. Obviously this will involve feeding the Feebas Poffins, in order to raise its Condition. Beauty is raised by Dry flavors. Thus, it is important to use berries that will result in Dry flavor levels (not just those with Dry flavor values, as if they also have sweetness, that will cancel out the dryness). The best berry to use, if you have it, is Apicot, followed by Wiki and then Pamtre. Some of the orders have changed otherwise, but it's not major. I've listed all of the berries that produce Dry Poffins, even if they are not primarily Dry. This is why many of the berries above produce fairly bad Poffin results. Also note that, instead of feeding another Poffin of the same level, when you reach near-full Feel, you're better off stuffing your Pokémon full with a high-Feel high-level Poffin. For example, if you eat 10 Wiki-made Poffins your Sheen will be 240, only 15 points away from maximum. Since it's not possible to make a Poffin with only 14 Feel, you might as well go big. Go ahead and feed an Apicot-made Poffin with 39 Feel, instead. The huge boost is basically free, since at that point, any Poffin would have made your Pokémon full. Keeping these tips in mind, you will be sure to be able to evolve Feebas! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ CLOSING + ----+ NOTICE I, the author, assert that this FAQ may be displayed only on GameFAQs and other sites to whom I have given explicit permission, and that any site that displays this FAQ must display it completely and in its entirety. I'll keep testing, though, of course. Poffin-making and the Super Contests are my favorite aspects of the game. Thanks, and keep up the good work, everyone!
