It was first released in English on the Nintendo DS, and it was later released on Wii-Ware and on iOS. This guide is for the Wii-Ware version of the game. Unlike the DS version of the game, Case Five is sold separately from the other cases. You can contact me at ilovecartoonssomuch@yahoo.com, if you want to put my guide on your website or something like that. This guide is separated by save points. Every time you get a chance to save your game, I start a new section of the guide. 002. Video Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- For those of you who are interested, I have made a video walkthrough for this game. You can find them at the following links. Case One: The First Turnabout ----------------------------------------------------------- Case One begins with a murder at a hotel room. The murderer is a man with a very distinct mark on his forehead. The game skips to the, on a quiet August day. Our hero, Phoenix Wright, is here with his mentor, Mia Fey. She is impressed that his first trial will be a murder case. Phoenix explains that he knows the defendant personally. The defendant is Larry Butz, Phoenix's best friend since grade school. Larry is a good guy, with a bad habit of getting into trouble. Larry has been accused of killing his girlfriend. The trial begins shortly afterwards. The Judge sees that Phoenix is a new lawyer, and so he decides to give Phoenix a short quiz to ensure that Phoenix knows the details of the case. At any time during the trial, you can press the Court Record button in order to look at evidence and character profiles. Checking the Court Record helps you get past the quiz. If you answer a question incorrectly, you are given the opportunity to answer it again. The quiz is this: Q: Who is the defendant? A: Larry Butz. Q: Who is the victim? A: Cindy Stone. Q: How did the victim die? A: She was hit with a blunt object. After the quiz, the prosecution presents the murder weapon, which is a miniature statue of "The Thinker". The Prosecution then calls Larry to the stand and explains that his girlfriend had dumped him and was seeing other men. The victim's passport is used as evidence to prove this. Phoenix has the opportunity to either stop Larry from answering, or to wait and see what happens. Either way, Larry gets angry that his girlfriend was dating other men, and he makes himself look extremely guilty. The prosecution moves on to discussing the fact that Larry visited the victim's apartment, on the day of the murder. Phoenix gets to choose whether Larry should tell the truth or lie. Either way, the prosecution will call a witness to confirm that Larry was there. The witness is Frank Sawhit, and he has a distinctive mark on his forehead. Aha! This man is the murderer! Frank gives a testimony about what he saw. He is also the person who called the police, but he had to use a public phone in order to do so, as there was a blackout at the hotel. You can go through the various statements of the testimony and press them in order to get some more information. Since this is the first case of the game (and a general introduction to how trials work in this game), things are simplified so you don't need to press any of the statements given in this case. All you have to do is present evidence. Go to the ninth statement of the testimony, which is "I remember the time exactly: It was 1:00 PM." At this statement, you want to present Cindy's Autopsy Report. The report clearly says that she died between 4:00 and 5:00. Why did he get the time wrong? Mr. Sawhit gives another testimony. He explains that he heard the time on the television. Clearly, it was a recording from an earlier show. That's how he got the time wrong. Go to the second statement, which is "There was a voice saying the time...It was probably coming from the television." At this statement, present the Blackout Record. The TV wasn't working at the time of the murder, so he couldn't have heard the TV! Mr. Sawhit gives another testimony. This time, he says that he saw the time on a clock inside the apartment. Specifically, he saw the time on the murder weapon, which is a clock. That is an odd testimony, considering the fact that the murder weapon was a statue, not a clock. At the second or third statement, present the statue. Phoenix asks how the witness confused the statue for a clock, and the prosecutor explains that the statue is actually a clock. The Judge asks if you still have a problem with the testimony. Choose "yes" or "no". Even though the statue is a clock, there is no way to know that, just by looking at it. And furthermore, there is no way to know what time it is, just by looking at it. Phoenix tries to explain how the witness knows the murder weapon was a clock. Pick "went into the apartment". Mr. Sawhit knows the murder weapon is a clock, because he used the murder weapon to kill the victim! The clock sounded, at the exact moment that Mr. Sawhit killed the victim. That's why it made such a clear impression on him. The witness gets extremely angry at this accusation. Phoenix is asked to explain further. Choose "Try sounding the clock". The clock does, in fact, tell the time when it is pressed in a certain way. And interestingly enough, the clock is three hours slow! All the evidence points towards Mr. Sawhit being the killer, but Mr. Sawhit tries to clear his name by talking about the day of the murder. Sure, the clock is three hours slow TODAY, but was it three hours slow on the day of the murder? For a tense moment, it looks like Mr. Sawhit will be dismissed as a witness and get away with murder. Mia asks Phoenix if he can prove the clock was running slow on the day of the murder. Choose "Yes" or "No", and when the Judge asks for evidence, present the passport. The victim had just returned from a trip to Paris, correct? That explains the time difference! The clock wasn't three hours slow; it was nine hours fast! Mr. Sawhit is arrested and taken into custody, while Larry Butz is found not guilty. The trial ends, and Phoenix explains about the murder in some detail, before talking with Mia and Larry. It turns out that the murder weapon is actually part of a pair. Larry made two clock/statues shaped like "The Thinker". Presumably, he made one for himself and one for Cindy. Larry gives his statue to Mia. Cindy's statue is in police custody. Mia is happy that Phoenix won, but Larry is still upset that his girlfriend was seeing other men. Mia suggests that Cindy still cared for Larry. To prove this, present the statue to Larry. Cindy took the clock/statue with her to Paris. She kept Larry's present, so she must have still cared for him. Larry goes away, a little happier. Phoenix and Mia make plans to have dinner together someday, so they can talk about why Phoenix decided to become a lawyer. ---- To summarize the trial... Pick "Larry Butz" Pick "Cindy Stone" Pick "Hit with a blunt object" Pick either option Pick either option Present Cindy's Autopsy Report on "I remember the time exactly: It was 1:00 PM" Present Blackout Record on "There was a voice saying the time...It was probably coming from the television" Present Statue on "There was a table clock in the apartment, wasn't there!" or "Yeah, the murder weapon! The killer used it to hit the victim!" Pick "Yes" or "No" Pick "Went into the apartment" Pick "Try sounding the clock" Pick "Yes" or "No". Present Passport Present Statue 004. Case Two: Turnabout Sisters ----------------------------------------------------------- 004a. Day One - Investigation ----------------------------------------------------------- Case Two begins on the day that Phoenix is scheduled to have dinner with Mia (and her little sister, Maya). It starts with a phone conversation between the two sisters. Mia has taken the clockwork out of "The Thinker" and put some evidence inside. She wants her sister to hold onto the evidence, for safe keeping. That night, an unknown person shows up at the Fey & Co. Law Offices. This person takes the evidence from "The Thinker" and kills Mia Fey. Phoenix Wright arrives shortly after. He notices an odd smell: blood. Move to the office, and Phoenix sees Mia's dead body. The girl crying over Mia's corpse leaves for the other room. Examine this area. You have two screens you can examine. On the right screen, examine the phone to learn that it has been tampered with. When you do this, Phoenix sees a woman in a nearby hotel call the police. On the left screen, examine Mia's body. Phoenix will note "The Thinker" statue is the murder weapon, and he also notes the glass shards from the broken lamp. A piece of paper appears next to Mia. Examine it to see that "Maya" is written on it, in blood. Move to the Fey & Co. Law Offices, and Phoenix talks with the girl. She is Maya, Mia's younger sister. Talk to Maya about both topics, then present the receipt to her to end the conversation. After you present the receipt to Maya, the police arrive. Detective Gumshoe decides to arrest Maya, based on the receipt with her name on it. Phoenix is taken in for questioning, and the next day, he visits Maya at the local detention center. Maya asks if you will be her attorney. Pick any response, and Maya relates a conversation she had with her sister. Mia said that Phoenix is a good lawyer, but he's lacking in experience. Here, you want to talk to Maya about four conversation topics. Talk to Maya about herself to learn that she is a spirit medium. Talk to her about spirit mediums to learn more. All the women in her family are accomplished spirit mediums, including her older sister Mia. Maya is still in training, though. Talk to Maya about the day of the crime. She explains about the phone call she received from her sister, asking her to arrive at the office at 9:00 PM. Talk to Maya about her cell phone. She says that the phone conversation is on her phone, but the phone is with the police. She writes Phoenix a memo about the phone. When you talk to Maya about all four topics, she asks you about Mr. Grossberg. Grossberg is a lawyer, and Maya wants him to defend her in court. You can accept or refuse the request. Either way, Phoenix will agree to stop by the Grossberg Law Offices. Move to the Fey & Co. Law Offices. The detective from the previous night is there. He is Detective Gumshoe, and he seems like a cheerful person. You want to talk to Gumshoe about three topics: Mia, Maya and Edgeworth. Talk to him about Mia to get the autopsy report. Talk to him about Maya to learn that Edgeworth is the prosecutor for Maya's trial. Talk to him about Edgeworth to learn a bit more. Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth is a ruthless man, who will do anything to get a guilty verdict. Present Maya's memo to Detective Gumshoe. You can tell him the truth or lie. Either way, you get Maya's phone. When you talk to Gumshoe about everything (and get Maya's phone), he mentions that the witness is still at the hotel. Her name is April May. Move to the Gatewater Hotel in order to meet with her. April seems to think that the entire scenario is like a scene from an exciting movie, with her in the role of "beautiful eyewitness". While she freshens up, examine the screwdriver in the drawer. She appears from out of nowhere and stops you. You can talk to April May about herself, the hotel room, and what she witnessed. She gets a bit flirty with Phoenix, but she refuses to tell him much. After you examine the screwdriver in the drawer in April May's room, you can go to the Grossberg Law Offices to meet Mr. Grossberg. If you go to this area before seeing the screwdriver, Mr. Grossberg isn't there. Before Phoenix can ask if Grossberg will take Maya's case, Grossberg refuses. You want to talk to Grossberg about all three topics. Talk about his refusal to represent Maya, and he mentions that no lawyer will take her case. He doesn't want to say why. Talk to Grossberg about Mia to learn that she used to work for Grossberg. Finally, talk to Grossberg about his painting. It is very expensive, and he never wants to part with it. Go to the detention center to talk with Maya. If you haven't talked to Grossberg about everything, Maya isn't there. She is understandably upset to learn that Grossberg won't defend her. You want to talk to Maya about three conversation topics. Ask about her family, and Maya mentions that her mother is missing. Ask about her mother, and she says that a man ruined her life, fifteen years ago. Ask about her mother's enemy to learn more. Fifteen years ago, there was a major murder case that the police couldn't solve. They asked Maya's mother for help. Maya's mother used her powers as a spirit medium, but the person that she helped the police capture was later found innocent. A man named White found out about the entire affair, and he gave the information to the press. Maya's mother became a laughingstock, and everyone said she was a fraud. She left her village (and her two daughters), ashamed. When you talk to Maya about her mother's enemy, she says the state appointed lawyer should be there soon. Phoenix has the opportunity to volunteer his services as Maya's lawyer. No matter which option you choose, Phoenix insists on being Maya's lawyer. Maya asks why. You can pick any option. Phoenix has several reasons for defending Maya, but the main reason is that he knows what it's like to be helpless and alone, accused of a crime you didn't commit. That's part of the reason why he became a lawyer. Investigation is almost over. Move to the Gatewater Hotel. The bellboy lets Phoenix inside April May's room. She isn't here at the moment, so you can examine the screwdriver inside her drawer. It turns out that she has a wiretap in there. She was tapping Mia's phone! --- To summarize this section... Day Two - Trial ----------------------------------------------------------- The trial begins with Edgeworth calling Detective Gumshoe to the stand. Gumshoe gives a testimony about what happened. His testimony is extremely solid, and Phoenix can see no contradictions. Maya gives Phoenix a note which says that he should press statements in the testimony. That can help, even if there are no contradictions in the testimony. What you want to do is press the fifth or sixth piece of the testimony. That would be "Why? We had a witness account describing her!" or "The witness saw Ms. Maya Fey at the very moment of the murder!". Phoenix questions Gumshoe's claim that the eyewitness' report counts as "hard evidence". Gumshoe gives another testimony. The hard evidence is the receipt with the word "Maya" written in blood. Gumshoe claims that Maya wrote her killer's name, shortly before her death. At the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth statement of this testimony, present the autopsy report. Mia died instantly, and therefore, she did not write any notes after being attacked. Edgeworth objects and asks when you got the autopsy report. Pick any option. Edgeworth explains that the autopsy report is outdated. A second, more recent, autopsy report shows that Mia did not die instantly. You can choose Phoenix's reaction to this bit of information. Edgeworth calls April May to the stand. The Judge asks if you want to cross-examine her. Pick either option, and Phoenix cross-examines the testimony. Press either the third or fifth statement. April May clearly identifies Maya as the girl in the office around the time of the murder, but something seems off. Choose "I question the testimony", and you can say she's lying, or she saw nothing. Either way, Phoenix questions the fact that April May identified Maya, without mentioning Maya's outlandish clothing or hairstyle. April May gives another testimony, this one about how the murderer chased Mia before hitting her with the clock. At the fifth (and final) statement, present "The Thinker". Just like in the previous case, Phoenix questions how the witness knows that the statue is really a clock. April May claims that she heard the clock. This is a false statement, so choose "it couldn't have rung". Why? Pick any of the three options, and the Judge examines the clock. It's empty, which means it couldn't have rung! Edgworth suggests that the clockwork was removed, after the night of the murder. Phoenix rises to the occasion, though, as he has proof which shows when the clockwork was removed. Present Maya's cell phone, and Phoenix plays the recording of Maya and Mia's phone call. Mia clearly states that the clockwork was removed, well before the murder. April May now claims that she say the clock in a store. The Judge asks if Phoenix has an issue with this claim. Pick "yes" or "no", and Phoenix explains that she couldn't have seen the clock in a store. Present the clock as evidence. Larry only made two of them, and they were not sold in stores. April May becomes angry. Phoenix is asked to explain how she knew the statue was a clock. Pick either option, and Phoenix says that April heard about the clock somewhere. Where? Present the wiretap. April heard about the clock through the wiretap! Edgeworth objects that the wiretap is irrelevant. Present Maya's cell phone again. The phone message clearly says refers to "The Thinker" as a clock. April May heard this phone conversation, and that is where she learned that the statue is a clock. Phoenix has the chance to deliver the final blow. He can ask about the wiretap or accuse April of being the murderer. April will state that she has a solid alibi. The bellboy gave her room service at 9:00 PM that night. Phoenix has the opportunity to call the bellboy as a witness. Pick either option, and the bellboy takes the witness stand. Edgeworth forces Phoenix to accept a one- sided deal. If this testimony proves fruitless, Phoenix will lose the trial. In this testimony, you need to press the final statement, along with the third or fourth statement. April May was very clear about being served at 9:00 PM, and she kissed the bellboy when she got her coffee. Phoenix suspects she was purposely creating an alibi. After this, Edgeworth says that the trial should end. Pick either option, and Phoenix demands that he be allowed to ask one more question. Pick any of the available topics, and the bellboy lets it slip that there was a second person in the room. This second person is a man, and he was not there at the time of the murder. The bellboy reveals that Edgeworth is responsible for hiding this man's presence from the court. Phoenix says that the trial cannot continue. When prompted, pick "the man with Miss May". This mysterious man has no alibi, and the wiretap was found in the hotel room he shared with April May. Court ends for the day, as the Judge agrees that this man should be investigated. Phoenix talks with Maya for a while, afterwards. He says that April May is being taken in for questioning. Phoenix asked for a copy of April's testimony, but he doubts it will be helpful, seeing as she lied so often. --- To summarize this section... Day Two - Investigation ----------------------------------------------------------- Phoenix starts his investigation by talking with April May at the detention center. You can talk to her about the man she was with, the wiretap and her attitude. She is angry with Phoenix, and she refuses to give him any information. Move to the Grossberg Law Offices. The large picture is missing from the wall. If you examine the desk, you find two pictures. Picture A is of a woman, and Picture B is of a man. Take the second picture. Go to the Gatewater Hotel. The bellboy believes that the trial will be good for the hotel's business. You can talk to him about April May, the hotel, and the man with April May. He claims that he would instantly recognize the man with April May, if given the opportunity. Present the photograph to the bellboy. He recognizes the man as the one who checked in with April May. The bellboy offers to write an affidavit about this. Accept his offer. Return to the detention center. Present the affidavit to April May. Phoenix can ease her fears or push her hard. Choose to push her hard, and she reveals that the man is Redd White. He is the CEO of Bluecorp Inc., and he is April's boss. You can now go to Bluecorp. Phoenix meets Redd White, whose arrogance meter is off the chart. He likes to use large words. You can talk to him about three topics: April May, Bluecorp and the night of the murder. When you talk about April May and the night of the murder, a new topic appears. This topic is "that painting". Talk about the painting and choose "I've seen it before" or "When did you get it?". Phoenix notices that it is the painting that Mr. Grossberg said he would never part with. Redd White then hits Phoenix. He claims that he is above the law, seeing as he controls the police and the courts. He says that Grossberg will be able to explain. Go to the Grossberg Law Offices. Mr. Grossberg is here now. You can talk to him about the trial to learn that he is happy Phoenix has not lost yet. If you talk about his refusal, he continues to refuse to explain why he won't represent Maya. Talk about Mr. White. Phoenix says something is bothering him. Pick any option, and Phoenix tries to draw a connection between Redd White and Grossberg. Choose "he's blackmailing you". Grossberg admits that he is being blackmailed by White. He has been blackmailed for fifteen years, ever since the DL-6 incident. You can talk to Grossberg about DL-6 to learn that this is the case where Mia and Maya's mother was asked to help find the criminal. Talk about "reason for blackmail" to learn the truth. In exchange for money, Mr. Grossberg gave Redd White the details of the case. As we learned during the first day of investigation, White gave the details to the media, and the police became a laughingstock. Ever since then, White has been blackmailing Grossberg, in exchange for not telling the police that Grossberg sold them out. Grossberg says that many other people are being blackmailed by White. He suggests that you look at Mia's files for more information. Go to the Fey & Co. Law Offices. Examine the files. Skim through the "J to S" file to find a series of files on suicides. Mia believes that Redd White is responsible for a number of people committing suicide. Phoenix takes one of the newspaper clippings. Go to Bluecorp and present the newspaper clipping to Redd White. White asks how this concerns him. Say "you blackmailed him". White denies the accusation and calls for security. You can choose to accuse White of being right or wrong. Either way, Mr. White calls the Chief Prosecutor. He says that he wants to testify as a witness in the trial tomorrow. He then accuses Phoenix of being the real murderer. Phoenix is arrested. He talks with Maya in the detention center. Say whatever you want to Maya, and Phoenix asks her to help as his co-council during the trial. --- To summarize this bit of investigation... Day Three - Trial ----------------------------------------------------------- Before the trial begins, Edgeworth talks with Phoenix. Edgeworth says that the Chief Prosecutor (and the Judge) are under heavy pressure to have Phoenix found guilty. Phoenix reveals that he knew Edgeworth, before the two of them became lawyers. Edgeworth tells Phoenix not to expect special treatment as a result of this fact. Edgeworth still wants to get a guilty verdict, no matter what. The trial begins, and Edgeworth wants to introduce Redd White as a witness. You can choose to object or not. Either way, Mr. White takes the stand. He explains what he was doing at 9:00, and he describes the murder in some detail. You want to learn more about the chase between the murderer and Ms. Fey. Press the eighth statement, which is "The victim, she...she ran away, but you gave chase!". Mr. White gives more details about the chase and changes his testimony to reflect this. Now the eighth statement is "The victim ran to the left, and you gave chase!". At this statement, present April May's testimony. She says that the victim ran to the right, not the left. Further, the floor plans show that Mia probably ran to the right, towards the door. Phoenix is asked to explain the contradiction. Pick any answer, and Phoenix explains that Mr. White saw Mia run to the left, because White was inside the Fey & Co. Law Offices. Where? Select location K. Phoenix accuses Redd White of being the killer. This causes an uproar in the court, and Redd White gives a second testimony. In this testimony, he claims that Mia ran left, got hit, then ran right and got hit again. On the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh statement (all of which discuss what happened after Mia was hit), present the autopsy report. Mia Fey died from a single blow. Therefore, she was not hit twice. Mr. White gives another testimony. It is similar to his previous testimony, only now he that the first blow missed. Press the first statement, which is about something falling. He clarifies that the glass stand is what fell. Maya asks if this is an odd statement. Select "Yeah, very odd". Phoenix asks that it be put in the testimony. The first statement of the testimony is now about the glass stand. Present the floor plans or the glass shards at this statement. He couldn't have seen the glass lamp from the hotel, because the lamp was not visible from the window's vantage point. Furthermore, how could Mr. White have known that the glass shards on the ground used to be part of a lamp? Edgeworth comes to Mr. White's aid. He says that Mr. White saw the glass lamp a week earlier, when Mr. White placed the wiretap in the office. Mr. White gives a solid testimony about this. Press every statement of the testimony to see that there are no holes in it. It looks like things are over for Phoenix, when he hears Mia's voice. He sees her standing next to him, then faints. He wakes up in the lobby, sees Mia, then faints again. Phoenix collects himself, and he sees that Mia is there, in a way. She is currently possessing Maya's body. The women in the Fey family all have spirit medium powers, as Maya explained. Mia says that the case is over. Remember the piece of paper with the word "Maya" written on it in blood? It is actually a receipt for the glass light stand. The date on the receipt does not match the date that Redd White placed the wiretap. Trial resumes, and Phoenix asks to do the cross-examination one last time. Present the receipt at any statement. Phoenix shows that the lamp stand was purchased well after the wiretap. Edgeworth requests another day to investigate the lamp. You can object or agree at this point. Either way, Mia gives Phoenix a memo. Present the memo. It is a list of people who Mr. White has blackmailed. To prevent the entire list from being made public, Mr. White confesses to killing Mia. The trial comes to an end, and Phoenix is found not guilty. Mia thanks Phoenix for all the work he did, helping Maya and capturing Mia's killer. She asks him to visit the office at 9:00 PM. When Phoenix arrives there, he finds Maya waiting for him. Phoenix and Maya are going to work together as partners from now on, at the Wright & Co. Law Offices! --- To summarize this section... Case Three: Turnabout Samurai ----------------------------------------------------------- 005a. Day One - Investigation ----------------------------------------------------------- The case begins with Maya watching an episode of "The Steel Samurai" on TV. That's a popular TV show for kids. The show's hero, the Steel Samurai, always fights against the Evil Magistrate. Over a day later, Phoenix gets a phone call from Maya. The actor who plays the Evil Magistrate has been murdered. The prime suspect is Will Powers, the actor who plays the Steel Samurai. Mr. Powers wants Phoenix to represent him in court. Go to the detention center to meet Mr. Powers. He might look a little scary, but he's a good guy. Talk to Mr. Powers about the Steel Samurai to learn more about the TV show. Talk to him about what happened to learn more about the day of the murder. In the morning, the cast went through a few action sequences. Rehearsal was scheduled for 5:00, but when everyone went to the studio, they found the victim's body. He was killed with a prop known as the Samurai Spear. Ask about his alibi to learn that the run-through for the action sequences ended at noon. Everyone broke for lunch, and Mr. Powers slept in his trailer until 5:00 PM. When you talk about what happened, and about Powers' alibi, you get the address of Global Studios. You can then move to the main gate of the studio. An old woman, who works as a security guard, stops Phoenix and Maya. You need to talk to the old woman about everything. Talk about the studios to learn that she liked the victim, Jack Hammer. Talk about Jack Hammer to learn that he used to be a bigger star. Five years ago, there was an accident during filming, and his career went downhill. That's why he's currently playing the role of a villain on a TV show for kids. Talk to the old woman about Will Powers, and she asserts that he is guilty. Ask her about her reason for suspicion. She was on guard duty from 1:00 to 5:00 that day. Only one person walked past the guard booth, before the murder occurred. She saw him with her own eyes: Will Powers. When you talk to the old bag about everything, she refuses to let Phoenix and Maya in. She wants to see proof that they represent Mr. Powers. Return to the detention center and talk to Powers about the security lady to get a letter. Return to Global Studios. Present Powers's Letter to the old bag. She agrees to let you inside. Maya gets a map of the area. You can only visit one place at the moment, and that is outside studio one. Move to that area. Detective Gumshoe is here. Talk to him about the investigation to get an autopsy report. Talk to him about the reason for arrest, and Gumshoe confirms what the old bag said: Will Powers is the only person who passed by the gate between 1:00 and 2:30. Talk to Gumshoe about the old lady, and he claims to like her. She gave him some decisive evidence. Talk to Gumshoe about this evidence. The security camera on the gate here automatically takes a picture, whenever someone passes by. These pictures are time-stamped. The photo records back up what the security woman said: only Mr. Powers went through the gate, before the murder occurred. When you talk to Gumshoe about the investigation and the decisive evidence, Maya asks for permission to explore the area. Detective Gumshoe gives this permission. Sadly, the scene of the murder (Studio 1) is locked by a keycard machine, so our heroes can't get inside. Go back to the main gate. You can talk to the old bag about new topics, if you want to, but it's not necessary. From here, you can go to the employee area, where the run- through took place on the morning of the murder. Will Powers' dressing room is located inside the employee area. Go into the dressing room and examine the bag in the lower/right to find a keycard to studio 1. Return to Detective Gumshoe, by going to the employee area, the main gate, then outside studio 1. Examine the door of the studio. The keycard works, and our heroes can go inside Studio 1. There are a few things to see inside the studio. The important thing to examine is the camera. This causes a studio assistant, Penny Nichols, to appear. Talk to Penny about the day of the crime. She was there for the run- through in the morning. After lunch, she saw the victim go to Studio 1, and she saw Mr. Powers go to his room. She didn't see either of them afterwards. Talk to Penny about Mr. Powers. Phoenix tries to get her to confirm Powers' alibi, but she does not. When you talk to Penny about Mr. Powers and the day of the crime, she mentions that she sensed someone at the studios on the day of the murder. You can talk to her about this to learn more. Return to the main gate, by going outside studio one, then to the main gate. Talk to the old bag about the assistant's claim that someone else was at the studios that day. The old bag gets mad and leaves. You can now examine the old bag's computer. Choose to turn it on, and select camera "STI-307". The computer prints out the security camera's photo. This photo is the decisive evidence that Detective Gumshoe mentioned earlier, but now that our heroes are looking at it, it does not seem decisive. It does not show Will Powers going to Studio 1; it shows someone inside Will Powers' costume, going to Studio 1. Someone could have been wearing his costume, in an attempt to frame him. Furthermore, the photo is labeled as Photo #2. What happened to Photo #1? Did another person walk through the gate on the day of the murder? Phoenix decides this is enough investigation for the day. --- To summarize this section... Day Two - Trial ----------------------------------------------------------- The trial begins with Edgeworth calling Detective Gumshoe to the stand. Gumshoe describes the layout of Global Studios, and he describes what happened on the day of the murder. You can have him repeat his explanation, or move on to the next witness. The next witness is the security guard. It turns out that the old bag's name is Wendy Oldbag. She believes that Edgeworth is quite handsome, and her love of talking has not diminished since yesterday. Present the security camera's photo on the seventh or eighth statement of the testimony. That would be "Interesting to me, because a certain man walked right by me at 2:00 PM." or "It was Powers! That man right there, and he was heading toward the studio!". Phoenix objects, because the photo does not clearly show Will Powers. It only shows someone, wearing Will Powers' costume. Oldbag says that she can prove the person in the photo is Will Powers, to the surprise of everyone. Oldbag's next testimony says that Mr. Powers sprained his ankle during the run-through that morning. The person in the photo is limping, as if he has a sprained ankle. She concluded that he was Mr. Powers. Press the third statement to learn that Penny was not present when Powers broke his ankle. Press the fourth statement to learn that the murder weapon was broken at this time. Edgeworth will interrupt the cross-examination after you press the third and fourth statements. Edgeworth asserts that it is Mr. Powers in the photograph. Phoenix has the opportunity to object to this assertion. Either way, the testimony continues. Oldbag's next testimony is about the time. The murder took place at 2:30, and the victim was in Studio 1 at 1:00. The only person to pass by the gate during this time period was Mr. Powers. Present the security camera photo on the second, third or fourth statements, all of which are about the fact that no one else went past the gate during this time frame. Phoenix points out the fact that this is Photo #2. Where is Photo #1? Wendy Oldbag suddenly remembers what happened with Photo #1. She deleted it, because she only keeps the photographs which look suspicious. Press the final statement, about the photograph she deleted. She says the photo is of a Steel Samurai fanboy. He is in second or third grade. Court takes a brief recess, as everyone processes this new information. Phoenix decides to filibuster for the rest of the day's trial, by accusing another suspect. When the trial reconvenes, the Judge asks Phoenix who the potential suspect is. Pick "the security lady". Edgeworth has no meaningful objections at this time, and he lets Phoenix accuse Oldbag for some time. At one point, you can choose to go easy or hard on Oldbag. Oldbag tries to cast the blame on the fanboy, but Phoenix has proof that the child is innocent. Present the spear, the security camera photo, or the keycard. The person in the photo clearly worked at the studio. The Judge tries to end the trial for the day, but Oldbag insists on giving more testimony. She claims that her superiors at Global Studios asked her to keep quiet about the presence of other people, on the day of the murder. Press the second or final statement to learn that these other people are the director, producer and some bigwigs. They were in Studio 2 for most of the day. The Judge asks Phoenix if he wants to keep cross-examining the testimony. Take a break, and the trial ends for the day. --- To sum up this section of the game... Skip It Present Powers's(?) Day Two - Investigation ----------------------------------------------------------- Time to continue the investigation! We need to learn more about the fanboy, the director, and the other people who were there on the day of the murder. Go to Global Studios. Move to the employee area to talk briefly with Penny. She just patched up the drain, so no one can get through it. Examine the drain and rip it open, so the fanboy can get into the building again. Go back to the main gate. You can talk to Penny some more if you want. When you talk to her about the director, he appears in the dressing room which is inside the employee area. Go there and talk to him. His name is Sal Manella. Sal will tell you that he, the producer and the bigwigs were all in a meeting from noon to 4:00 PM. The time of death was 2:30 PM, so the meeting is the alibi for all of them. After you're done with Sal, go to the Main Gate, then go outside Studio One. You can now visit the area Outside Studio Two, which is a trailer. Phoenix and Maya hear an odd noise from inside, but it's locked. Return to the main gate. Wendy Oldbag returns here, if you've talked to Sal and heard the noise inside the trailer. She doesn't want to talk to you, because she's angry about the trial. Go to the Employee Area. Provided that you opened the drain, the fanboy is here. His name is Cody Hackins. Ask him about what happens. He says he saw the fight, and that the Steel Samurai won. He then runs away, knocking over an empty bottle as he does so. Return to the Main Gate. Oldbag is chasing after the boy, so no one is at the guard station. Examine the key shelf there and take the key to the trailer. Go to the trailer and examine the door to unlock it. Go inside to meet the producer, Dee Vasquez. Talk to her about everything. She doesn't want to talk, unless she gets a script. Once you finish talking to her, she gives you a memo. Return to the dressing room and present the memo to Sal. He says he left the script somewhere. The script is in Studio One, so travel all the way there. Look at the director's chair in order to find it. Go to the trailer and present it to Vasquez, so you can talk to her about the blocked path. She explains how the head of Mr. Monkey blocked the pathway to Studio Two, giving everyone in the area a perfectly alibi. Things are looking pretty bad for our heroes, now. Return to Phoenix Wright's office, and Mia will appear. She will help Phoenix with the rest of the investigation here, and she says that he should focus on the fanboy. Return to Global Studios. Mrs. Oldbag managed to get something from the fanboy, after chasing him for so long. You can talk to her about it to learn that it is a card. You want the card, so make a trade. Present the cardkey to her, and give it to her. She gives you the card in return. Go to the dressing room to see Cody again. He likes Mia, but he doesn't like Phoenix very much. When you talk to him, it becomes obvious that Phoenix needs to bribe him, to get him to talk. Present the Steel Samurai card to him. He says he'll talk to you, only if you get him an ultra rare premium card. Go all the way to the trailer. Penny is here. Present the Steel Samurai card to her. She wants to trade it for an URP card. Make the trade, then return to the dressing rom. Present the URP card, and Cody will talk to you. Talk about the Steel Samurai. Cody asks what your favorite thing about the Steel Samurai is. Pick "his fighting skills", and Cody gives you his scrapbook of photos he's taken. He has photos of the Steel Samurai's victory poses. Talk to Cody about what he saw. He saw the Steel Samurai fight someone, and the Steel Samurai won. This sounds like evidence which proves our client's guilt. Detective Gumshoe comes in at this point, and he wants to make Cody a witness for the Prosecution. Mia asks if you believe in Will Powers' innocence. Pick either option, and Mia agrees to be Phoenix's co-council during the trial tomorrow. --- To sum up this section of the game... Day Three - Trial ----------------------------------------------------------- The trial begins with Sal Manella being summoned as a witness. He confirms what we already know. Around noon, he left for the meeting with the producer and the others, and the meeting lasted until 4:00. No one left the meeting at any time. Press the fifth statement, in which Sal claims he skipped lunch for the meeting. Phoenix points out the two plates that were found outside the trailer. Sal admits that he did, in fact, take a lunch break so he could eat steak. With this information, you can poke a hole in his final statement, which says there were no breaks during the meeting. Press that statement and press harder. He admits that they took a short break, at which time, he ate his steak. Phoenix requests another testimony. Sal claims the break was only fifteen minutes long, which is not long enough to
commit murder. Press the first two statements to learn
about the timing of the break, and to learn about what Dee
Vasquez was doing.

After you press the first two statements, press the third
statement. Edgeworth interrupts. He asks if you think
someone from the trailer went to Studio One during the
break. No matter which option you pick, Edgeworth brings up
the fact that the giant monkey head was blocking the path.

After a recess, Edgeworth then brings in his next witness:
Cody Hackins. Cody tried to sneak through the woods, to
avoid being caught by the security woman. He was lost for
about a half hour, before he arrived at the studio. At that
time, the Steel Samurai fought the bad guy and killed him.

The final statement is about the fact that Cody would have
taken a picture, if he had his camera. Present Cody's
camera at this statement. He claims to always keep his
camera with him, so why didn't he have the camera at that
point?

Cody gives another testimony. He admits he had his camera,
but he says that he was so excited about the fight that he
forgot to take a picture.

Go to the fourth statement, about the death. Cody describes
all the fighting moves that the Steel Samurai used. Press
harder about this, and Phoenix points out the fact that
Cody seems to have missed the killing blow.

Why didn't Cody watch the killing blow? Choose to show
evidence, then pick his camera. Cody was busy setting up
his camera, so he could take a picture of the fight.

Cody's next testimony is rather short. Press the final
statement, then press him hard. Phoenix gets Cody to admit
that he took a few photos, but he erased them because he
took them after the fight.

Present Cody's scrapbook at this point. Cody has a
collection of the Steel Samurai's victory poses. It makes
no sense for Cody to have deleted pictures of the victory
pose in this battle, unless...

The Judge asks what happened. Select "The Steel Samurai
didn't win". Cody bursts into tears over the fact that he
saw his hero get killed in battle.

Edgeworth asks what this means. Select "Steel Samurai was
the victim". Phoenix explains that Jack Hammer, who was
killed, must have been wearing the Steel Samurai costume at
the time he was murdered.

Cody has one picture, of the back of the Steel Samurai
costume. Edgeworth and the Judge are quick to dismiss it,
but Mia spies a contradiction. Select the number above the
Steel Samurai's head.

This is a number 2, not a number 1. That means the Steel
Samurai was outside Studio 2 when he was killed. Select
Studio 2 when the Judge asks where the murder took place.

You are asked why this is significant. Select "the trailer
is there" or "the path was blocked". The monkey head
blocking the path is no longer an alibi for the people in
the meeting; it is proof that one of them must be the
killer.

Edgeworth wants some proof at this moment, to prove this
claim. Present the empty bottle, which is labeled "sleeping
pills". Jack Hammer used the sleeping pills on Will Powers.
Then, while Mr. Powers was asleep, Jack stole his Steel
Samurai costume.

How can we confirm this? Phoenix suggests fingerprinting
the bottle. That will prove Jack Hammer is the owner of the
bottle of sleeping pills. The Judge agrees to perform the
fingerprinting, then he brings the trial to a close for the
day.

005e. Day Three - Investigation
-----------------------------------------------------------

Maya returns for this investigation! Yay!

Go to the Detention Center and talk to Will Powers. He says
Dee Vasquez has been doing well with the TV company ever
since she signed on five years ago. Sal Manella pretty much
does whatever she wants, and Jack Hammer's career took a
nosedive five years ago, when he started at Global Studios.

Head to Global Studios. Ms. Oldbag refuses to talk at all
today.

Go to the Employee Area. Detective Gumshoe is here. Talk
about the plate, and he tests it for sleeping pills. The
test is positive. Talk to Gumshoe about the investigation
and Edgeworth to learn that Edgeworth is angry, and to
learn that the victim's fingerprints were found on the
bottle of sleeping pills.

Go into the Dressing Room. If you've talked with Will
Powers in the Detention Center, Penny is here. Talk to her
about Mr. Hammer to inform her about what happened during
the trial. She says the rumors must be true, but she
refuses to elaborate.

Talk about the last episode of Steel Samurai. She says the
show (and all other kids shows) are being cancelled, due to
a new studio policy. Ask about the policy, and Maya insists
kids love the shows. Present "Path to Glory" as proof of
this.

Penny will be moved, and she agrees to talk about what
happened five years ago. Apparently, someone died in an
accident while filming. Dee Vasquez managed to hush up the
entire incident, and she used it to blackmail Hammer.

Go back to the main gate. Talk to Ms. Oldbag about five
years ago, since she is the only person who was working at
the studios at the time. She is upset and demands proof
that Hammer stole Powers' costume.

Select "I have proof". Present both the sleeping pill
bottle and the steak plate, in either order. She says that
Vasquez used her mafia ties to get a photo of the incident
away from the paparazzi. Mrs. Oldbag gives you the photo in
question.

Go to the trailer, outside Studio Two. Vasquez is there.
Present the photo to her, and she says she'll discuss it
inside the trailer. Follow her inside the trailer.

She admits to blackmailing Hammer for five years, and she
says the murder he committed wasn't an accident. She brings
out her mafia contacts to get the photo away from Phoenix.
Just when they're about to attack our heroes, Detective
Gumshoe comes in and saves them!

005f. Day Four - Trial
-----------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix is confident that he can win the trial, now that he
knows Vasquez is the true culprit. As luck would have it,
Edgeworth summons her as a witness.

Vasquez gives a thorough testimony about what happened. The
only new piece of information is the fact that she had Sal
take her to Studio One, in the van.

Vasquez's final statement says that she ate a T-bone steak
with Sal, during the break in the meeting. At this
statement, present the Steak Plate. The plates inside the
Employee Area had bones left behind, but the ones outside
Studio Two did not!

Why not? Select "You didn't eat the steak". Most likely,
she burned it in the incinerator in the area, to give the
illusion that she ate the steak. If she wasn't eating
steak, then what was she really doing at the time? She was
meeting with the Steel Samurai!

Yes, she left the trailer and met with Mr. Hammer, who was
inside the Steel Samurai costume. At that point, she killed
him.

Vasquez finds the accusation amusing. She asks how she
could have killed Hammer with the murder weapon. Choose "I
don't know" or "you couldn't". Phoenix reveals that the
murder weapon is irrelevant, because the Samurai Spear is
NOT the murder weapon!

The Judge wants proof. Present the Samurai Spear to him. It
is not the murder weapon, because it was broken several
hours before the murder. We learned this on the first day
of trial.

The Judge asks if you can identify the real murder weapon.
Select "I can tell you", then present the five year old
photo. The victim died, by falling from the stairs, onto
one of the posts.

Vasquez asks how she could have moved the body from Studio
Two to Studio One. Select "she had another way". That way
is the van, which she used to travel between studios. She
must have transported the body that way.

Does that mean Sal was a conspirator? You can choose to
accuse him of aiding her or not. Either way, Vasquez admits
that Phoenix has made many solid arguments, but he lacks
solid proof.

Vasquez says she intends to leave. Ask her to testify
again, or tell her you have no further questions. Edgeworth
will interrupt, and he asks her to testify again. This
time, she testifies about finding the body.

Press the sixth statement, about how she went back to the
trailer to get the script and direction notes. Press
harder, and Phoenix questions why she didn't bring them to
the studio. She said it was because she knew they wouldn't
record anything, due to the murder.

Edgeworth objects, because that meant she knew about the
murder ahead of time. She amends her statement, saying she
knew they wouldn't record anything, due to Hammer's injury.
This statement is added to the testimony.

Present Powers' Photo at this new statement. Vasquez has
made a mistake here. It was Powers who was injured, not
Hammer. Explain that she saw Hammer limping, while he was
pretending to be the Steel Samurai.

Vasquez asks about her motive for killing Hammer. Whether
you choose to prove a motive or not, you are forced to do
so. Present the five year old photo. She was using the
events from five years ago to blackmail Hammer. It made him
so mad that he wanted to kill her and frame Will Powers for
the murder.

The Judge is confused, because he wants to know about
Vasquez's motive, not Hammer's. Explain that she had no
motive, other than self-defense. Vasquez then confesses,
bringing the trial to an end.

In the lobby, Will Powers thanks Phoenix. He asks why
Hammer attempted to frame him. Present "Path to Glory",
which is proof that Will Powers was a popular TV star.
Hammer was jealous of Will's popularity.

Edgeworth speaks with Phoenix for a bit, before leaving.
The Steel Samurai show is un-cancelled, and Will Powers
gets the starring role in a new show called The Pink
Princess. The case then comes to an end.

006. Case Four: Turnabout Goodbyes
-----------------------------------------------------------

006a. Day One - Investigation
-----------------------------------------------------------

This case takes place on Christmas, where a man was killed
on a boat. The suspect is...Edgeworth?

Once you get control of Phoenix, go to the Detention
Center. When you talk to Edgeworth about everything, he is
quite clear that he wants Phoenix to stay away from this
case.

Present the attorney's badge to Edgeworth. Phoenix offers
to take his case. Edgeworth rejects the offer, and he says
that every defense attorney he's talked to has refused to
take the case.

Go to Gourd Lake. Detective Gumshoe is here investigating.
Talk to him about all four topics. He explains more about
the murder and the fact that there's a witness. You must
have presented Phoenix's badge to Edgeworth, to get a
specific conversation with Gumshoe about defense attorneys.

When the conversations are done, Gumshoe has to leave. Ask
him whatever you want, before he goes. He'll give you the
location of the Criminal Affairs Department, where you can
meet him later.

Go into Gourd Park. There are poppers on the bench on the
right. Examine the poppers, and choose to take them. From
here, go to the woods and examine the camera. Maya uses the
poppers to set off the camera.

The camera's owner appears. She is a Southern woman with an
afro. Present your attorney's badge to get her cooperation.
She introduces herself as Lotta Hart.

Talk to Lotta about everything. She's a student, and she's
here to take pictures of falling stars. Her camera is set
to go off, when loud noises are heard. The camera is added
to evidence. Present the camera to Lotta, and she goes to
check if the camera took any pictures last night, when the
victim was shot.

Return to the entrance of Gourd Lake. From here, you can go
to the Criminal Affairs Department. After you've talked
with Lotta, Gumshoe appears here. Talk to him about
everything to get the autopsy report. Maya recognizes the
victim from his photograph.

Lotta should have found the photos by now, so return to
Gourd Lake Woods. She has two photos of the incident, and
what's more, she says that she's a witness. She decides to
go to the police.

Go to the Gourd Lake Public Beach. Larry appears at this
point. He sells Samurai Dogs at this location. Talk to him
about everything. He says that Edgeworth's dream was to be
a defense attorney, like his father. Larry also gives you
an article about Gourdy.

Go to Gourd Lake Entrance, and return to the Wright & Co.
Law Offices. Maya asks to take another look at the autopsy
report. She remembers that the victim worked at Mia's old
law firm.

Go to the Grossberg Law Offices. Grossberg shows up at this
location, after you talk to Larry. Present the autopsy
report to Grossberg and talk to him about the victim and
the DL-6 Incident.

We heard about the DL-6 Incident, while investigating the
second case. That was the murder case which took place
fifteen years ago. It was the one that was so difficult,
the police decided to ask for the help of a spirit medium.
That spirit medium was Maya and Mia's mother, Misty Fey.

The victim in the DL-6 Incident was Gregory Edgeworth,
Miles Edgeworth's father. The defense attorney in the case,
who managed to get a "not guilty" verdict for the
defendant, was Robert Hammond. He is the victim in the
Gourd Lake shooting.

Grossberg gives you a picture of Misty Fey. Go to the
Detention Center and show the photo to Edgeworth. He will
agree to answer your questions. Talk to him about DL-6, and
he reveals that he was present at the murder scene on that
day. The statute of limitation for DL-6 is going to expire
in three days. The prime suspect in the case disappeared,
after being found innocent.

To finish with Edgeworth, present the lake photo to him.
When you present the lake photo to him, and talk to him
about everything, he asks you to be his lawyer. Phoenix
accepts the case, whether you choose to accept or refuse
it. He hands his request to you.

An earthquake then takes place, and Edgeworth becomes
extremely frightened. It seems he has a fear of
earthquakes.

Go to the Criminal Affairs Department to talk to Gumshoe.
Present Edgeworth's request to Gumshoe. He files the
paperwork to have you accepted as Edgeworth's defense
lawyer.

006b. Day Two - Trial
-----------------------------------------------------------

Before the trial starts, Phoenix learns that the prosecutor
is Manfred von Karma, Edgeworth's mentor. He has never lost
a case, in the entire forty years that he has worked as a
prosecutor. To make matters worse, Mia won't be here to
help during this trial.

Von Karma brings in Detective Gumshoe to discuss the
general facts of the case. After this, Gumshoe gives a
testimony about the arrest of Miles Edgeworth.

Von Karma has told Detective Gumshoe what to say ahead of
time, so the testimony is solid and has no holes. However,
we can get some evidence by pressing the testimony. Press
the fifth statement, about the body in the lake, to get the
bullet added to evidence.

Press the final statement, about arresting Edgeworth. This
gives you a new statement about the murder weapon. Press
this new statement to get the murder weapon added to
evidence. Fingerprints from Edgeworth's right hand are on
the gun, and ballistic markings matched it with the bullet.

Von Karma, who is quite adept at telling the Judge what to
do, declares that a recess will take place before the
witness takes the stand. In the lobby, Edgeworth admits he
was on the boat with the victim. He heard a gunshot just
before the victim collapsed

Maya is starting to feel a bit useless at this point. You
can tell her that you need her help, or say that she's
useless. Either way, Phoenix fails to console her, and the
trial resumes.

Lotta takes the stand. She gives her testimony, and the
photograph of the murder is submitted to the court. Von
Karma wants to skip the cross-examination, and he threatens
to hold Phoenix in contempt if the cross-examination is
fruitless. You are asked if you think the testimony has a
contradiction in it. Select either option.

Lotta's testimony has been prepared in advance by Von
Karma, just like Gumshoe's. That means there are no holes
in it. What's more, Von Karma jumps in with objections,
every time Phoenix attempts to press Lotta for more
information.

What you have to do is press all the statements, and press
further when given the opportunity. Eventually, the Judge
ends the cross-examination. Von Karma gloats that Phoenix
will be held in contempt, if he says anything else.

Von Karma prepares to wrap up the trial, when Maya
interrupts and demands to know if Lotta actually saw
Edgeworth. Lotta replies in the affirmative, but Von Karma
interrupts and asks to have Phoenix removed from court.

Von Karma says there is nothing else to do, besides deliver
the verdict. Select "right" or "wrong" here; either way,
Phoenix will insist on cross-examining the new statement
that Lotta just made about seeing Edgeworth. Meanwhile,
Maya is removed in contempt of court, because she is the
one who shouted out.

Phoenix gets to cross-examine Lotta's statement. Since this
is the first statement Lotta has made which was NOT
prepared for her ahead of time by Von Karma, it's possible
for Phoenix to find a problem with it. Present the Lake
Photo at the statement. How could Lotta have seen Edgeworth
clearly, when there was so much fog on the lake? Besides,
he was standing in a boat at a great distance from shore!

Von Karma is not happy that Lotta said something, when he
told her ahead of time not to mention it. The Judge
requests a new testimony. In this testimony, Lotta explains
that she used binoculars to see Edgeworth.

Press the third statement about the binoculars. Given the
fact that Lotta was allegedly looking for meteors, Phoenix
questions the fact that she had binoculars, not a
telescope. He also questions the fact that her camera was
set to take pictures whenever loud noises occurred, given
the fact that meteors don't make loud noises.

Von Karma objects that the camera is irrelevant. Press
further, and a statement about the camera is added to the
testimony. At this statement, present Lotta's camera.
Phoenix questions the fact that her camera was pointed at
the lake, not the sky.

Phoenix concludes that Lotta was NOT there to take pictures
of meteors. You are asked if you know what she was taking
pictures of. Select either option, then present the Gourdy
Article. Lotta was trying to take a picture of Gourdy!

Lotta asks for proof. Select either option, then present
her camera. The article says a loud bang was heard, when
Gourdy first appeared. That's why Lotta set her camera to
take pictures of the lake, whenever a loud noise was heard.

Lotta admits she was there, trying to get a picture of
Gourdy. However, she claims this doesn't change what she
saw. Von Karma agrees with her on this point. However, in
light of the new evidence, Lotta is asked to give a new
testimony.

This is going to be the last testimony of this day's trial,
as the Judge points out. We'd better find a good
contradiction!

Go to the end of the testimony, where Lotta talks about
seeing the boat. Present the Gourdy Article at any of the
final three statements. Phoenix points out the fact that
Lotta would have been scanning the lake for signs of
Gourdy, not looking directly at the boat the whole time.

Lotta admits she was not watching the boat the whole time,
but she is quick to say the photograph supports her story.
She starts to say something, but she gets cut off by Von
Karma.

Phoenix, remembering what Gumshoe said the day before,
realizes that Lotta made an enlargement of the photograph.
Demand to see the enlargement. It is revealed that Von
Karma has been purposely hiding this evidence from the
courtroom.

The enlargement is shown, but it is impossible to identify
the people in the photograph, due to the fog. The Judge
prepares to end the trial, but you can't give up now!
Object to the enlargement!

The Judge asks what you object to. Select the hand which is
holding the gun. The shooter is holding the gun in his left
hand, but the fingerprints found on the pistol came from
Edgeworth's right hand. Ergo, the man in the picture is not
Edgeworth!

You are asked who fired the gun. It must have been the
victim, who is the only other person on the boat at the
time. Von Karma interrupts, saying that the death could not
have been a suicide, as the autopsy report indicates the
victim was shot from three feet away.

Court is adjourned for the day. Phoenix gets a deposition
from Lotta, before he begins his investigation.

006c. Day Two - Investigation
-----------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix starts by visiting Maya at the Detention Center,
where she was sent after being found in contempt of court.
You can talk to her, if you want. It turns out that, since
this is her first offense, Detective Gumshoe is going to
let her go after questioning.

Leave the Detention Center. It turns out that there is
nobody around, except for Detective Gumshoe. He's at the
Gourd Lake Woods, where Lotta is camping. Go there, and you
can talk to him about three things.

Gumshoe says that Von Karma is going to bring the second
witness to testify in the trial tomorrow. Gumshoe says
Edgeworth's legal career, hatred of crime and his fear of
earthquakes all started with the DL-6 Incident. Gumshoe
also says Maya should be free to go now, because Edgeworth
posted bail for her.

Return to the Detention Center to get Maya. Once she's with
you, you can go to Gourd Lake Entrance and meet Lotta. Talk
to her. She's sorry about what happened in the trial today,
and she's willing to make it up to you, if you give her
information about Gourdy. Accept her deal, and she goes to
her car.

Go to the Criminal Affairs Department to talk with Gumshoe.
You can talk with him about the case, but the important
thing to talk about is Gourdy. When he learns you are
trying to find Gourdy, he agrees to lend you one of his
three secret weapons.

The secret weapon you want is the metal detector, although
if you pick Missile, you can see a funny scene at the Gourd
Lake Public Beach, in which Missile eats all of Larry's hot
dogs. Speaking of Gourd Lake Public Beach, you can go there
now to talk to Larry. Larry has set up a large, inflatable
Steel Samurai to advertise his business.

Go to the Boat Rental Shop. If you have the metal detector,
it goes off. Phoenix finds an air tank, similar to the one
Larry has. Return to the beach and present the air tank to
Larry. Ask if it's his, tell him it is for inflation and
ask more about the tank. This allows you to talk to Larry
about the tank.

Larry made a mistake, when trying to inflate the Steel
Samurai with the air tank. The tank and Steel Samurai went
flying and landed in the lake with a large "bang!". On the
night of the murder, before midnight, Larry retrieved it
from the lake.

Phoenix is now confident that he knows about Gourdy. Go to
the Gourd Lake Woods and talk to Lotta about Gourdy. Tell
her that he doesn't exist, and present the air tank as
proof. Larry's goof with the air tank was mistaken for
Gourdy.

Lotta is a bit sad to hear this, but she keeps up her end
of the bargain. Ask her about her case information, and she
reveals that the man at the boat rental shop is the witness
for the trial tomorrow. She also gives you a second
photograph, one that was taken on the night of the murder.
There's nothing in the photograph, which is why she didn't
give it to you earlier, but it's worth knowing that the
camera went off twice that night.

Go to the Boat Rental Shop and go inside. A crazy old man
runs the shop, and he thinks it's a pasta restaurant.
Examine his parrot to learn that the parrot is trained to
remember things.

Present the attorney's badge to this man, so he takes you
more seriously. Then, present the lake photo to him. He
says he witnessed it.

Talk to the man about what he saw, and talk about the
parrot. On the way out, the parrot will mention DL-6. Does
that mean this man is connected to DL-6 somehow?

The old man mentioned Gumshoe, so go to the Criminal
Affairs Department. Talk to him about the old man and about
DL-6. Gumshoe says he can't let you see those files,
without good reason. Present the parrot to him, and he
agrees to let you get the DL-6 files.

Go to the records room. Maya will look up the case
information for you. Make her look up everything. DL-6
happened, after a large earthquake stranded three people in
an elevator for five hours. These people were Gregory
Edgeworth, his son Miles, and Yanni Yogi.

Yogi was found innocent in the following trial, despite the
fact that the police and Maya's mother claimed he was
guilty. He disappeared after that. He also suffered brain
damage, due to oxygen deprivation, because he was in the
closed-off elevator for so long.

006d. Day Three - Trial
-----------------------------------------------------------

Trial begins with Von Karma predicting he will win, in
three minutes. He brings the old man as a witness and asks
about his profession.

Phoenix notes that the man did not give his name. You can
object to this or not. Von Karma says his name is
irrelevant. He explains that the old man's memory is not
good enough to remember events that occurred several years
ago, and so he does not know his name.

The old man gives a testimony. Von Karma says there is no
need to cross-examine the testimony, and he demands the
trial end here. You can choose to what to do here, but no
matter which option you pick, the Judge lets Phoenix cross-
examine the testimony. This angers Von Karma, who was
hoping to finish things within three minutes.

You want to press the final statement, about the man
passing by the window, after the two gunshots were heard.
This results in a new statement, about what the man was
saying. Press this statement. The old man reveals that it
was Miles Edgeworth, who said, "I can't believe he's
dead!".

Phoenix fears the testimony was just a trap, set by Von
Karma. You have two options to object here, but no matter
what you do, the trial ends, and the Judge hands down a
guilty verdict for Miles Edgeworth.

Suddenly, Larry Butz appears. He says that the testimony
just now has made one thing certain: the loud noise he
heard on the night of the murder was one of the gunshots!
Larry didn't mention this earlier, but the Judge doesn't
want to make a false ruling here, so he decides to let
Larry testify after a short recess.

Getting through Larry's testimony is easy. Go to the final
statement, about the gunshot. Present Lotta's Deposition at
this statement. Lotta heard TWO gunshots, as did the old
man. Why did Larry only hear one?

Larry explains that he was listening to the radio on his
headphones, at the time. So it's possible he missed the
other gunshot. The Judge requests a second testimony from
Larry. This time, Larry goes into more detail about what he
heard. He claims that he heard the gunshot, while the DJ
was talking in between songs.

Press the final statement, about the DJ. Von Karma
interrupts, saying it is irrelevant. Insist that we should
care about what the DJ said. It turns out the DJ said,
"Hey! It's almost Christmas!". Larry adds this to his
testimony.

This means that Larry heard the gunshot BEFORE midnight.
Present the Lake Photo or Lotta's Deposition at this new
statement. This contradicts the fact that Lotta and the old
man heard both gunshots after midnight. The timestamp on
Lotta's photo proves this!

Von Karma wants to dismiss Larry's testimony, while the
Judge asks Phoenix what to make of it. Say that Larry is
right, and prove he is right by presenting the pistol and
the second lake photo (in either order). The pistol was
fired three times, and the third time must have been before
midnight. Lotta's picture of the empty lake helps prove
this, as it took a photo after a loud banging noise before
midnight.

Von Karma agrees that there must have been a gunshot (or
some sort of loud noise) at 11:50 PM, but he is quick to
claim that it has no relevance to the murder at 12:15 AM.

Phoenix remembers the Steel Samurai case, where the victim
dressed up like the Steel Samurai, in order to frame
someone. Perhaps that is what happened here! The real
murder took place at 11:50 PM, while the events at 12:15
AM, involving Miles Edgeworth, were an elaborate attempt to
frame Edgeworth.

Von Karma brings up the photograph. Who was pictured in the
photograph? Select "Edgeworth and the murderer". The
murderer clearly lured Edgeworth into the boat, perhaps by
pretending to be the victim.

Von Karma asks for the murderer's name. Say that you don't
know. Phoenix accuses the old man who runs the boat rental
shop. When asked where the murder took place, say it
happened at the boat rental shop.

Phoenix describes the entire series of events, in some
detail. At 11:50 PM, the boat shop caretaker killed Robert
Hammond, inside the boat shop. Larry, who was passing by
outside, managed to hear this. The noise also triggered
Lotta's camera, which automatically took a picture.

Then, at 12:15 AM, the boat shop caretaker, most likely
impersonating Hammond, went onto the lake with Edgeworth,
inside a boat. At this point, he fired the gun to draw the
attention of anyone nearby, in hopes of creating a witness.
He fired the gun a second time, dropped the gun in the
boat, then fell backwards, off of the boat. That way,
anyone who was watching would think he was shot and killed.

The boat shop caretaker swam back to his hut and dumped
Hammond's body in the lake, when the coast was clear. The
Judge demands that the boat shop caretaker come out, to
testify again.

While they're waiting, Edgeworth takes the stand and talks
about the circumstances of his arrival at the lake. He got
a letter, signed by the victim, telling him to arrive at
that time. The victim claimed to have vital information for
Edgeworth, but Edgeworth doesn't want to reveal this
information.

The bailiff interrupts with the news that the boat shop
caretaker has fled the courthouse. The Judge calls an end
to the trial for the day, and he demands that the police
find the caretaker immediately. He also wants them to
determine the man's identity.

In the lobby after the trial, Edgeworth admits that he has
recently been plagued by nightmares of him committing
murder.

006e. Day Three - Investigation
-----------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix and Maya return to the Wright & Co. Law Offices.
Larry appears here, bragging about his fantastic
performance in court.

Talk to Larry about everything, and Phoenix will explain
why he became a defense attorney. Back in fourth grade,
Phoenix was falsely accused of theft. Edgeworth and Larry
were the only two people who stood up for him.

Years later, after Edgeworth moved away, Phoenix heard
nasty rumors about Edgeworth's legal career. Edgeworth was
accused of fabricated evidence and other misdeeds. Phoenix
tried to get in contact with him, but it didn't work.
That's why Phoenix became a defense attorney. He knew that
Edgeworth would be unable to avoid him, if they faced each
other in court.

Time to begin the investigation for today! It's quite
simple. You need to visit the boat rental shop. Along the
way, Phoenix meets with Gumshoe and Grossberg.

Inside the boat rental shop, examine the safe. Inside,
Phoenix finds a letter, describing the murder in great
detail. The old man was following orders from somebody
else!

Go to the Detention Center to meet with Edgeworth. You can
talk to him about his reasons for being a prosecutor. He
wants to make sure no criminal goes unpunished, unlike the
criminal who killed his father. Edgeworth can also talk
about Manfred von Karma.

Present the letter from the safe to Edgeworth. After
reading it, Edgeworth believes the old man is Yanni Yogi.
Edgeworth talks about the DL-6 Incident in more detail, and
he explains his nightmare of committing murder.

Edgeworth has a vague memory of throwing a gun, to get it
away from Yanni Yogi. The gun went off, and someone
screamed. Edgeworth doesn't remember what happened next,
but he deduced that he killed his father. That would
explain why Yanni Yogi wants revenge! If Yogi was innocent,
why would he want revenge against Edgeworth?

Maya suggests visiting Grossberg, as he knows a lot about
DL-6. Go to Grossberg Law Offices. He can talk more about
Gregory Edgeworth, as well as Misty Fey's involvement with
the police. If Edgeworth is truly guilty, perhaps his ghost
lied to protect his son.

Present the letter from the safe to Grossberg and suggest
that Manfred von Karma wrote it. Grossberg confirms this
information. Does that mean Manfred von Karma is the one
who told Yogi to kill Hammond?

Talk to Grossberg about Von Karma, and about Von Karma's
grudge against Gregory Edgeworth. The day of the DL-6
Incident, Gregory Edgeworth was able to successfully prove
that Von Karma was using false evidence. Von Karma won the
case, but he was still penalized for his crime.

This was the only penalty that Von Karma ever received in
his career as a prosecutor. Following this, he took a long
vacation before returning to work.

Despite the evidence, Phoenix doesn't believe that
Edgeworth killed his father during the DL-6 Incident. He
wants to get more information on DL-6, before the statute
of limitations expires tomorrow.

Go to the Criminal Affairs Department, then go to the
Records Room. Examine the open drawer, and Manfred Von
Karma appears. Talk to him, and he says that he plans on
getting Edgeworth found guilty of murder, no matter what.
If Edgeworth is found innocent in the current case, then
Von Karma plans of having him found guilty of killing his
father in DL-6.

Present the letter from the safe to Manfred Von Karma. He
pulls out a taser and forcibly steals the letter from
Phoenix. Maya manages to take one piece of evidence from
Von Karma, which happens to be the bullet that killed
Gregory Edgeworth.

006f. Day Four - Trial
-----------------------------------------------------------

After our heroes talk in the lobby, the trial begins. The
boat shop caretaker takes the stand and testifies about the
events of the previous day. He claims that he wasn't
running away from the law; he was just buying food for his
parrot.

Press the final two statements, where he claims he has
nothing to do with the current case. Phoenix will question
the witness' amnesia both times. The Judge will ask if this
is important, and Phoenix will assert that the witness is
lying about his memory loss.

The Judge will ask who the witness is. Say he is Yanni
Yogi. Von Karma interrupts, and he demands proof that the
witness is Yanni Yogi. Fingerprinting the witness isn't an
option, so it looks like Phoenix has no way to prove the
witness' identity.

Von Karma jokingly suggests cross-examining the parrot.
Phoenix takes him up on his offer. The testimony is rather
short, as you might expect. Press the first statement, and
Maya can talk to the parrot about three things.

Ask the parrot what its name is. The name is "Polly", which
was the name of Yanni Yogi's fiancée. Say the name is
relevant and present the DL-6 file. Tell the Judge to look
at the page with suspect data.

Press the first statement again, and this time, ask the
parrot what the combination to the safe is. The combination
is 12/28, the date of DL-6. Say the date is relevant and
present the DL-6 file. Tell the Judge to look at the page
with the case summary.

The old man is brought back to testify. He admits that he
is Yanni Yogi. Fifteen years ago, he pretended to be
suffering from brain damage, because that allowed him to
avoid being found guilty in the DL-6 trial.

He has been pretending to have brain damage ever since
then, at the cost of his career and social life. This is
why he wanted revenge on Hammond. He does not explain why
he wanted revenge on Edgeworth, but instead, he admits to
killing Hammond.

Edgeworth is found not guilty of all charges, but Edgeworth
interrupts the proceedings. He confesses that he must be
the true killer in the DL-6 Incident, which is the only
reason why Yogi would want revenge on him.

Trial takes a brief recess. Phoenix is unconvinced that
Edgeworth is the culprit in the DL-6 Incident, and he plans
on proving Edgeworth's innocent. When trial reconvenes,
Edgeworth testifies as to what happened.

On the sixth statement, about the gunshot, present the DL-6
Incident Photo. There were clearly two bullets fired. One
killed Gregory Edgeworth and the other hit the elevator
door, shattering the glass.

Select the bullet hole for the Judge to see. Von Karma
objects, saying the hole could have been there before the
incident. Prove it was part of the incident by selecting
the DL-6 Case File and telling them to look at the victim
data section.

Alternately, you can present the DL-6 Case File first, then
explain about the DL-6 Incident Photo.

Either way, this is a large contradiction. Why did
Edgeworth only hear ONE gunshot when there were two?
Phoenix claims that Edgeworth is responsible for the shot
that hit the elevator door, while someone else is
responsible for the shot which killed Gregory Edgeworth.

Von Karma brings up the fact that the second bullet was
never found at the scene of the crime. He uses this to
disprove the existence of the second bullet.

Phoenix feels upset about what is happening, and he's about
ready to give up, when he has a flash of Mia, telling him
about the second bullet. Phoenix then objects and claims
that the murder took the second bullet away from the crime
scene.

If you say the murderer needed to find the bullet, you get
penalized for making a bad choice. Instead, say the
murderer didn't need to find the bullet before removing it
from the crime scene. Phoenix suggests that the bullet hit
the murderer, and therefore the murderer had no choice but
to take the bullet, inside his body, away from the crime
scene.

Since Yogi and Edgeworth were found unharmed, this means
the murderer was somebody outside the elevator. After being
shot, that person entered the elevator and found the three
people unconscious. He then shot Gregory Edgeworth.

Maya and Phoenix remember that Von Karma took his only
vacation, right after DL-6. What if he took the vacation,
because he was shot and had to recover? In other words, Von
Karma killed Edgeworth's father!

You are given the opportunity to accuse Von Karma. Phoenix
accuses Von Karma no matter which option you choose. Von
Karma demands that you prove he was shot during DL-6.

Von Karma is smug about this, because he knows he did not
leave behind any proof. In other words, he did not have the
bullet removed by a doctor. That means the bullet must
still be inside of him!

Choose to show evidence, then select the metal detector.
Despite Von Karma's objections, the metal detector is used
on him. It finds some metal, inside his right shoulder.

Von Karma admits there is a bullet in his shoulder, but he
claims that this particular bullet has nothing to do with
DL-6. Prove otherwise, by presenting the DL-6 bullet. The
ballistic markings on the two bullets should prove they
were fired by the same gun.

Von Karma screams in anger. Edgeworth recognizes this as
the scream he heard fifteen years ago, after the gun fired.
Von Karma then confesses to the crime.

Our heroes celebrate Edgeworth's innocence, and the
following day, Maya decides to return to her hometown of
Kurain, to continue her spirit medium training. Show her
the DL-6 Bullet to cheer her up. After all, if it wasn't
for her, Phoenix would have never gotten that particular
piece of evidence, which won the trial!

The game ends at this point, but don't worry! Maya will
return from Kurain to help Phoenix in second game in the
series, which is Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice for
All.
