Hamsterz 2 Guide Written by Sn0zb0z Date: 22/01/2008 Version: 1.00 Note: This guide is for personal/private use only and should not be copied or published on any other website. Menu/Contents ************* Controls Introduction Basics Shop The menu Stars Chat Care Center and Book Visiting Others Caring for your Hamster Purchasing other hamsters and objects Basic items Unlockables Item List Cages Saving Mini Games Partners Wireless FAQ Controls ******** The stylus is the easiest thing to use rather than the buttons. You can easily move objects around, pick your hamster up and so on. The L and R shoulder buttons can be used to zoom in and out. The left and right buttons move the camera so you can view the cage from different sides while the up and down buttons allow you to see the cage from the top or bottom. The A button zooms in and allows you to be able to pet your hamster. The Y button removes other icons from the screen (click again to get them back). The B button will send you back to the screen which shows all 3 cages and the hamsters in them. Pressing it again will give you the save option. Introduction ************ Want a hamster but don't want the mess or to be kept awake at night when the hamster decides to run on its wheel? Well Hamsterz 2 allows you to care for your own hamster. You can watch it eat, sleep and play and it's up to you to care for it and keep it happy. You can unlock items, visit others and give your pet a dream home. You can buy loads of different items and hamsters and this guide tells you the best way to care for them and everything else you need to know about your hamster. This game is all about caring for your hamster and, unlike most games, doesn't ever really end. The game starts off simple, giving you one hamster and a basic cage. It is then up to you to buy what the hamster needs and get to know your hamster. The game has plenty to unlock and gives you the chance to build up your cage so it is the perfect home, play mini games and meet other people with hamsters. When you first start the game you have to go through what it asks for; your name, birthday, etc. You even get to pick what room you want your hamster to be in. Next your cousin comes around saying she has a hamster and wonders if you would like it. After saying yes and choosing a name you now have a new hamster. Your cousin will say a few things to you before going home and leaving it up to you to care for your new pet. Basics ****** There are the basic things that no hamster can live without. Your hamster needs a house, food bowl, toilet and water bottle. Hamsters also love toys such as wheels and tubes which you can buy from the shop. Your cousin will introduce you to the shop at the start. (More about the shop further down.) More items are unlocked as you play through the game so you can give your hamster more and make it even happier. Once your cousin has left and your hamster has these things you can start learning more about your hamster and how to care for it. (See below for more information) Shop **** There are lots of items available in the shop and these may vary from time to time. Sometimes there will be more items than others and new items can sometimes be available to buy (this includes different coloured objects, different toys and cages.) You can also sell items, although you won't get as many stars for them as what you bought the item for. Unless you need more stars or really don't want and item there is little point in selling items. Toys, houses and similar items can be switched around if you have more than one. Food and water will always be a good idea to keep as your hamster needs to be fed and given water daily. The Menu ******** The menu is fairly simply to use, although it may take you a little time to remember which icon is what. The menu is easy to get to and the menu icons are all different colours which is a nice touch and can be useful for remembering which icon is for what, even though there are different symbols on each. The icon on the top left hand side of the screen, when showing the hamster in its cage, will take you to the menu screen. The icon will flash at the top to show which one you are on. The first icon (green) shows the layout of the cage and what is in it. At the side of that is all the items that you have. The second icon (pink) will show a blank screen when you first start. However, later on you will notice that certain items you buy are shown here. This includes items such as cleaner (so you can clean the cage) and treats (which you can feed to your pet yourself rather than putting them in to the bowl.) These items can also be bought from the shop. The third icon (yellow) shows your hamster(s). Clicking on them will show you more information about them (name, age and so on). There are three tabs on the left hand side which show you different things about the hamsters. The fourth icon (purple) has information on you. There are two tabs on the left hand side. The other tab shows the people you have met and clicking on them will tell you more information about them. The fifth icon (blue) gives you the option of wireless communications (more information below), go out and play (go to see those you know. More information below) and go to the pet store. The sixth icon (peach) will give you the option to start wireless communications (more information below). The arrow that points up on the top right hand side of the screen allows you to go back at any point. Stars ***** Stars work as money. The amount of stars you have is shown in the top left hand corner when you click to go to the shop. Different items cost different amounts of stars. There are different ways to get stars. 1.Give your pet food and water. Each time your pet eats or drinks you get stars. 2.Pet your hamster. (Your hamster may not always want to be petted, but you can get a lot of stars through petting it.) 3.Give your pet a toy or something to gnaw. Each time it gnaws or plays with a toy you will get stars. You can get stars from other hamsters as well. For example, if you go to your cousin's house and play with their hamster you will get stars. Chat **** When you click to go to the pat store you get four different options and one of these is chat. When you click this it takes you to a screen showing three people. They will all talk to you when you click on them. If you talk to them enough you will eventually become their friend and be able to take your hamster to their houses. Sometimes you can get tips from talking to these people. If you want to keep talking to them you have to go back a couple of screens and then go back to it. Care Center and Book ******************** You can take your hamster to the care center and drop it off there. It will be looked after and you can pick it up again when you wish. This is useful if you go buying loads of hamsters as you won't be able to keep them all in cages. Either that or if you are going away and can't look after the pet yourself. The book gives you information that you might need to know, including raising hamsters and items. It doesn't go in to a lot of detail, but is useful to look at while playing if there is something you need to know. Visiting others *************** You can visit others who have a DS and the Hamsterz 2 game. This is through the wireless communications (information below). You can also visit other characters in the game. At the start you met your cousin who you can go and visit at any time. Above there is information on Chat. After chatting for so long you will make new friends and you can visit these people at any time as well. Visiting people can also mean you meet new people who you can then visit (although the hamster may not be too happy if you keep moving it out of its cage.) To visit others click on the fifth icon (blue) and click go out to play. You can then click on who you want to go and see. Caring for your hamster *********************** Your hamster will always need the basics which you should have bought at the start of the game. Your hamster needs daily care which includes making sure it has food and water. The cage will also need to be cleaned every so often and you can buy a cleaner from the shop. Treats can be given to your hamster and toys can be placed in the cage. You can pet your hamster, although there may be times when your pet doesn't want to be petted. See the FAQ at the end of this guide if you have any questions about why your hamster may not want to be petted. Petting your hamster is simple as you just move the stylus to stroke the pet. If it does allow you to pet it then you will get stars which can be used to buy more items to care for your hamster or give your pet a treat. You can also pick your pet up. If you touch the hamster and wait for a second the cursor will change and you can pick him up if he is in a good mood. The hamster will then be sitting in your hands and you can pet it. To put it back just click the arrow icon on the top right hand side. Purchasing other hamsters and objects ************************************* Many items can be purchased from the shop and so can hamsters. The first two tabs on the left hand side show items and the third tab is for hamsters. Once a hamster has been bought it needs to be named and then placed in a cage. Objects will be placed with other items and can be put in the cage. Partners for your hamster can be bought and this can mean that your hamster will have babies. Basic Items *********** Cages, toys and accessories are the basic items that you can have and these come in different colours and styles. You also get the basics like food, water, bedding and treats. All items and hamsters can be bought from the shop. Unlockables *********** As you go through the game you unlock lots of items, from different foods to bigger and better cages. These items are all unlocked by going on to the chat. Just keep talking to them and eventually you unlock more and more items. Items aren't the only thing you can unlock though. When you first start the game you will meet your cousin who gives your first hamster. You can visit your cousin whenever you want (although too many trips may upset your hamster). Other than allowing your hamster to play with another hamster you can unlock things by going here. When you visit your cousin you will be able to visit other people later on. By going to your cousins you will meet an Aunt who you will then be able to visit. This isn't all you unlock though. You can also unlock mini games by visiting other people. To be able to visit other people you can go on the chat. As it says above, you can unlock items this way, but it also means you can visit these people. You may have to spend quite a bit of time talking to them first though. Item List ********* There are loads of different items and you unlock more as you play through the game. The following shows a lot of the items you can buy for your hamster/cage and some information on them. Items which have different letters next to them are either colours or to do with the item they are. E.g. yellow may just be Y or yell and bottle may just become b. Most of the items come in the main colours - red, blue, green and yellow and a lot of things are in wood as well. Cages: You start of with the basic cage and can later buy bigger cages for your hamsters. 2F means it is a two floor cage. P is for plastic, S is for steel and W is for wooden. R P Tunnel Y P Tunnel Red Curve P Gr Curve P Wooden Tunnel Exerciser Tower Peach sofa Teacup Mushroom Stump Low Stump High Bridge Left Clog Doll cat Jewel Cages ***** As you progress in the game more cages become available, although they aren't cheap. You start off with the basic cage. You will then be able to upgrade this and eventually have a wider, two-storey cage. All items need to be removed when exchanging cages (make sure to check food and water when the bowl and water bottle are placed back in the cage) To exchange cages you drag the object on to the image of the cage (where it says what the item is. Note: This NOT where the layout of the cage is) When you upgrade your cage to a two floor you have to add the second floor and a ladder/ramp to allow your hamster to get up there. You can buy the floor and ladders/ramp from the shop. The floors and ladders/ramps are separate but you can buy matching ones e.g. blue ramp and blue floor or log ladder and log floor. To put in a second floor you have to go on to the menu and on to the first icon (green). You drag the floor across on to the squared area underneath where it says second floor. You then have to move the ladder/ramp and place it on the first floor of the cage. You might have to move the top floor and ladder around a bit until it slots in to place. You can then place your other items in the cage (Note: you can have items in before you place the ladder but it is easier to put the ladder in first and then the items. Remember that some items are also bigger than others and may stop you placing a second floor in.) Saving ****** When on the cage selection screen there is an icon in the top right hand corner. Clicking this will allow you to save and continue playing/end the game. Mini games ********** When you progress so far through the game you will be able to play mini games. It costs stars to play these, but you can also win stars from them. You can also get treasures from some games. The games are: 1. Memory 2. Jump and Catch 3. Kitty Race Partners ******** You can make two hamsters partners. Partners have to be a female and a male. Partners can then have babies. To make your hamsters partners you have to have a male and a female of the same breed (Golden and Golden or Roborovski and Roborovski. However, a Cambell and a Dwarf can be partnered) Go to the third icon (yellow) and then click on the third tab on the left hand side. Cage two shows space for two hamsters. Have or move the one you want as a partner in that cage and then move the second one in to it. If you go back you will see that both your hamsters are now together. In the top left hand corner (next to the menu button) there is another icon with two hamsters. Click this and you can set up a partnership between the two hamsters. Making hamsters partners means that you can have babies. Note: Once you leave this cage the hamster you moved will be returned to its cage. Your cousin might ask if you want your hamster to become a partner with their hamster - it is up to you whether or not you decide to partner them. You can also use wireless so that you and a friend can make your hamsters partners. Wireless ******** Wireless allows you to connect to another DS and visit your friend's hamsters. From the main menu you can use either the fifth or sixth icon to start wireless communications. You can then host a game and invite your friends to come and play. Note: Your friend must also have the Hamsterz 2 game. FAQ **** Q. My hamster keeps shooting lightening bolts at me - what do I do? A. Don't worry. Your hamster probably just isn't very happy at the moment. Try giving your pet a treat or maybe buying something else for the cage. Otherwise just don't pet your pet for a while. Q. Why does it show a water drop when I go to pet my hamster? A. This just means your pet isn't in a good mood. Try petting him again later. When he is happy you will get the heart image and stars. Q. Why does it show a question mark next to my hamster? A. This just means your hamster is unsure. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Q. I bought a hamster and now I can't find it! What happened? A. Try looking in the care center. The chances are you already have three hamsters (one in each cage). If you don't have three hamsters then check your other cages. Q. I bought an item, but I can't find it. Why is this? A. Make sure you actually buy the item. Sometimes you can click to buy something and it doesn't say anything. After you have bought an item it should thank you for your custom. If it doesn't then click to buy it again. Your item should appear in the list of other items. If not it may be a problem with your game. Note: Make sure you have enough stars to buy the item. Q. I saw an item in the shop, but when I went back to buy it it wasn't there. Why? A. The shop only shows so many items at a time. Just go back a couple of screens and then visit the shop again. You will see different items and eventually you will see that item again. Q. I haven't unlocked any new items. Why is this? A. Try petting your hamster more and making sure it is properly cared for. Also use the chat to talk to three people and eventually you should be able to go and visit them. Q. I want to pick my hamster up. Why won't it let me? A. If your hamster is in a bad mood it won't let you pick it up. If you get the question mark it means your hamster is unsure and may stop you picking it up. Sometimes you can't pick your hamster up simply because it's doing something else such as eating. Q. Can I have more than one hamster in a cage? A. You can only have one hamster in each cage unless you are visiting someone, have a friend visiting you or have paired up two hamsters. When you pair up two hamsters it is only for a short length of time and the hamster will be returned to its own cage after. Q. My hamster has run out of food/water. What do I do? A. Hamsters should have food and water at all times. If they don't then refill them straight away. Go to your items, click the food or water and select use. Say yes when it says about putting food/water in all feeders. Q. What difference does having two floors make? A. Having two floors means you can fit more items in your cage and have more choice for the layout. It also gives your hamster more room to run around and play. Q. I want to buy more items but I don't have many stars. Why is this and what can I do about it? A. You get stars for looking after your hamster and petting it. Make sure your hamster has food and water. You will get stars when it has something to eat or drink. Make sure it has all the basic items so your pet is happy and objects like wheels are always a good idea. You will get points if your hamster runs on its wheel or plays with an item. Petting your hamster will get you stars, just be sure not to make your pet angry or it won't want to be petted for a while. Q. My pet isn't sleeping/eating/drinking. What can I do about it? A. There is nothing you can do about it. Your pet will sleep/eat/drink when it wants to. Q. It keeps showing an X when I try and pet my hamster. Why? A. The X simply means you can not pet it at this point. The reason is because the hamster is doing something (eating, drinking or playing) or because you can not reach it (it may be inside a house or other object). If a hamster is only on two paws, scratching, washing or something similar then you can not pet it. Just wait until it is back on four paws and walking around again. Q. I was on the chat and missed what was said. I think it was important and don't know what to do. Is there anyway to get back to what was said? A. You can find out what was said. However, you can not go back. You have to just keep talking to that person until they repeat it. Q. My hamster fell off an object. Does it matter? A. Hamsters climb around a lot and every so often they will fall. They get back up and carry on running around. This is nothing to worry about. Q. How do I stop my hamster becoming ill? A. Don't leave your hamster uncared for too long. The chances are it will become ill. Make sure your pet has food, water and clean out the cage often. If you know you are not going to be able to look after your hamster then putting them in the care center may be the best idea. Q. I have two hamsters, one male and one female. Why is my hamster not pregnant? A. This can take time. Make sure both the hamsters have been in the same cage together and eventually you should have a pregnant hamster. Note: The hamsters have to be the right breed to be together, you should make them partners and both hamsters have to be adults. Q. I have two hamsters that are partnered, but I don't want them to be. What do I do? A. Use the same icon as you did to partner them in the first place. Instead of partnering them you will be undoing it. The icon is the one in the top left hand corner, next to the menu icon.
