I'm sure you're already well aware of the daily things you must provide your dog with. Eating, Playing, Bathing, taking it out for Walks, etc. If you got that down, you are already completed half the Battle of taming the puppy. What left for you to do is knowing how to master each aspect. I hope to help you with such. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Buying your first Pup ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Buying your first puppy can be a tough decision. Each puppy in this game has their own personalities, their on advantages, and their on life style. It does not necessarily vary by breed, each puppy itself has its on characteristic that it shares. Once you find the puppy you want in the Kennel, you’re going to need to teach its name, and then maybe some other tricks, sounds easy? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Aww look at the little puppy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you first buy a puppy, you’re going to have to name it. The on screen tutorial will teach you how to do so. After you've said its name numerously it should learn it, once it does you’re prompt to enter its name. Note: It's name can be completely different from what you call it, you can write it's name as Dimwit, but it will still respond to the voice command stupid if that is what it was learned to listen to. Once it learns it's name, you can say it and depending on how close it is to you, it might come to you and bark, or then again it just might ignore you. Now is a good time to teach your dog its first trick. Sitting down. This trick is fairly easy, all you have to do is get your dog's attention onto you and pet it's head. Once you do that, while petting it's head, move the stylus down. It should follow the motion of the stylus and sit down. Once it sits you will see a lightbulb in the upper-right corner of the screen. When you see this, press it. You can now input a voice command of which you can say anything you want to name the"trick" it preformed. You will have to say the same thing you inputted numerous times by repeating the procedure sitting down before it learns how to. Just like naming your dog, you don't have to have the written name of the trick the same as of which you say with your voice. Now that you mastered the basics of training a dog, you can now continue onto different sections to further instruct you on how you can raise your puppy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The controls in this game are VERY simple. 99 percent of this game revolves around the touch screen and the stylus. In fact you can play this game without ever using the buttons. You use the stylus to Pet Your Dog Rub Your Dog Feed Your Dog Making a Walking route for your Dog Play Fetch with your dog and basically anything in this game uses the stylus. For more information check your game booklet, it has diagram pictures. The ONLY thing the arrows and the Letter Buttons can be used for is changing the camera angles when you are on the main menu (so you can see your little puppies in different areas) ============================================================================== 2) Walking the Dog ============================================================================== Walking the Dog is one of the most important things to do in this game, not only can you practice for competitions and meet other dogs. You can get exclusive items not in the regular pet store and at the discount store. You can also find gifts on the way and sell them to the secondhand shop, or use them on your dog for them to enjoy. Walking is a good experience! Note: The more your dog walks, the more stamina it can build up, thus the further it can walk in the future. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Walking Symbols ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On the upper left side of the screen you see an arrow pointing leftwards, this brings you back to your house The tool under the arrow is the Erase tool, click on it to erase the route you currently made. The bar under that represents your dog’s Stamina, this determines how far it can travel. [?]: These boxes are either presents, or other people walking of which you can get advice from them and interact with their dogs. Upper left Side of the walking Map: That's a discount shop, items there cost a lot less, and sometimes they have accessories for your dog. -The part below depends on your game, it is not the same for each one- Lower left Side of the Walking Map: That’s the park, there are sometimes dogs there of which you can interact with. This is a good place to practice Disc Competitions. The more you practice, the better your dog will get at catching discs, and the further it can go to get one. Middle Bottom Side of the Walking Map: Another discount park, you can buy items cheaper, and get accessories for your dog. Upper Middle Side of the Walking Map: This is another park which you can play with your dog and train for disc competitions. Sometimes other dogs play here too. Lower Side of the Walking Map. Upper Right: This is the Gym, this is to practice for the agility competition. For each class you get into, your dog can get better if you practice enough. My Chihuahua is a speed demon :P ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Walking FAQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ These weren't actually asked by people, I just made one =D Q: My dog is fighting with another one! What should I do? A: You can either let the dog fight out (I love doing this cause I like my dog to win) or you can back off away from him (or leave the scene) I am assuming that it MAY put your dog in a bad attitude, because I know when two dogs get along, it puts my dog into a good attitude. -Tip from Murakawa- Wait until the dog you are meeting has stopped barking and jumping, so that (s)he is laying obediently on the floor. Now it is time to guide your dog towards the other, and they will start sniffing each other. You might have to do this two to three times before they become friends. You gain more trainer points when dogs become friends! Q: My dog barks like crazy when he sometimes see's another one, but then still become friends? Why? A: I don't know, dogs are strange like that. Q: Which ways can I see results of whether my dog likes another one or not quickly? A: Just take the leash and drag him near the other dog, if they start rubbing their mouths against each other, they might cuddle up a few seconds after, which means they are good friends (so you can just leave the scene now) if your dog starts running away from the other one and you start hearing "Dramatic" music, that means your dog doesn't like the other one too much. If they just stare at each other and just bark, they're still curious about each other. Q: My dog always goes for garbage, How can I stop him from eating it! A: Keep yanking the leash away from the garbage, it may take numerous times until he understands that you want to continue on the walk, but that is a good way to stop him from eating it. Q: Should I really clean up the Dog Droppings? A: I haven't seen negative effects of not picking them up (ex: police knocking on your door) so I don't see why you SHOULDN'T pick them up, besides being a civil person Q: My dog just scratches and takes to long during walking, how can I make this process go faster. A: Just Pull the leash all the way on the right side of the screen, your dog will start running now, there is nothing bad about this except he gets thirsty faster, but it really speeds up the process of walking almost x3. You can also yank the leash when he starts scratching himself so he will stop, then continue on the run. Q: Why is it when my dog pee's a blue mark is placed on the map A: This is the dog's way of marking it's territory. When you revisit the marked place during the walk, your dog will most likely sniff it to see if it still remains, or he will pee again on it to "reclaim" it Q: Why does the blue mark on the map flash? A: I recently found out that if you encounter another dog near where your dog left it's mark, the territory will start blinking. This means that another dog is in your territory. Often when this happens, your dog won't be happy with the one "invading" it's territory. It will must likely end up in a "fight". Sometimes though it is possible to be friends with the dog, but with my current experience of this situation in particular, it seems my dog fights more then cuddle (and I tested this with two different dogs) Q: Why do I see dog figures on Parks A: That means that other dogs are at the park as well, how many dog symbols you see are how many dogs are at the park. Q: What items do I get on these walks? A: That's a good question, look below (Not Completed) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A list of Dogs and there owners which you might find on a walk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Not Completed* Please contact me at the top of this FAQ if you wish to contribute *Some owners and dogs contributed by houndoom342@aim.com* Owner: Shiggy Dog: Pit Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Billy Dog: Aster Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Tim Dog: Deacon Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Emily Dog: Coby Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Chuck Dog: Cole Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Archie Dog: Spot Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: Carmen Dog: Chelsea Their Conversations: Not yet Written Their Dog's Likes/Dislikes: Not yet Written Owner: ??? Here are some techniques for the 3 different competitions. A thing you should do before entering all competitions though is to make sure your dog is full, quenched, and feels beautiful (bathe it, and brush it's hair) This should improve it's performance (though this is not confirmed) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Disc Competition Training ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The best and most effective way to train your dog for disc competitions is to bring it to the park. By brining it to the park, I mean bring it to the park with no other dogs in it (which you can check if you see dog figures on the park itself, if you do then don't go to the park). Once you are at the park the training begins. Not only brining your dog to the park is training the dog itself, but it gives you the best technique to throw the disc and for your dog to catch it. I think agility plays a minor roll in how fast it goes as well, but this is NOT confirmed so don't quote me on it. You can train it's agility at the gym (which is basically a replica of the agility competition setup) Okay, now all that is done, to effectively train your dog you SHOULD play with it with a Disc until it says that you have played to much and should go home. After playing for so much, you might not notice an increase in it's improvement, and this is because the higher in the competition you unlocked the better your dog will be in becoming better when you train it. Note: After you finish a competition, it's best to train your dog before entering a new one, Like I said, after every class you advance onto your dog can then improve on it's abilities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Agility Training ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Agility Training is very important, and much like the Disc Competition training it revolves around how far you have gotten into the tourney classes (Ex: Beginner, Open Class, Expert, etc) for how good your dog should be. You should spend a while going through all the drills (5-10 minutes) or until your dog says it's tired of training. Agility improves it's overall abilities as well. So keep that dog running and active. When you think you are done with training, you should go home and give your dog some water as it's likely it will be very thirsty, then after that a nice snack (I my dogs love Beef Jerkey) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Obedience Training ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Even if you have a stubborn dog, you can still get this dog to win the tourneys. You should not overwork your dog at one time though, just gradually without the dog, give them commands for them to follow. The closer the dog is to you as well, will get them to do better in the contest. Another thing you should do is feed it snacks (like dog biscuits or beef jerkey) when it listens to a command, my dog use to be stubborn and confused, but when I started to do this, it will listen to my commands and be happy doing it :). Once you train your dog by giving it commands just gradually and feeding it snacks to make it happy. The way your dog looks also makes the judges rate higher/lower, it is best to bathe your dog, and brush it's hair before the competition starts, and even dress it up. Don't wait too long before doing this though or your dog will lose it's beautiful status, and go to clean. It is best to do this RIGHT before the competition. You should also train it a tee-bit before hand. NOTE: Although not yet tested, I think the higher you get in tourney's the better it will do if you continue to train it much like Disc competition and Agility. Some things to take in to consideration while training your dog 1: A lot of times dogs do not listen to you as much as they do in the competition, so just because your dog doesn't always listen to your sit commands doesn't always means it's just being stubborn. It's best to give it a snack if It does follow your commands though (if not that, a pat on it's head). 2: According to the nintendogs manual, SPEAK 6 inches away from the DS and say the command CLEARLY (but not to LOUD). If you do this, the dog should be able to follow your commands easier 3: Don't make commands sound the same, this may confuse the dog. 4: Treating your dog nice and praising it for it doing good, improves it's Obedience. 5: Making your dog look beautiful will increase it's score slightly. 6: Make your commands short instead of long (at least this tip works for me) the longer it is the easier it is you might make a slight mess up, thus eliminating the whole trick. 7: Sometimes when you have to have your dog sit down for a number of seconds and it won't listen, a good way to improve this ability is to have it trained to its commands. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now your fully trained so lets move on to the COMPETITIONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============================================================================== Competition ============================================================================== This is where all your hard training pays off, with MONEY, and a trophy (if you do good enough) Here is a small walk through each competition and how to score. *Be sure to read the training section for help* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Disc Competition ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In this you are given a set amount of time of which you must get points by throwing the disc and getting your dog to catch it. The more it catches, the more points you get. You get an additional point if it catches it in the air. Note: When you first play out you should get use to the limits of how far your dog can travel to get the disc. Once you find that limit, and how to throw the disc there, just keep repeating the process, you should WIN the competition this way. once you get into higher tourney's your dog could be trained to do better. For a lot of people and there dogs, it's easier to throw the disc in a front ward formation (which means dragging the stylus up into the middle of the screen, then letting go) Payout Amounts: Beginner 1st Place: $100 2nd Place: $50 3rd Place: $30 Open Class 1st Place: $200 2nd Place: $100 3rd Place: $60 Expert Class 1st Place: $300 2nd Place: $150 3rd Place: $90 Master Class 1st Place: $600 2nd Place: $300 3rd Place: $180 Championship Class 1st Place: $1000 2nd Place: $600 3rd Place: $300 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Agility Competition ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In this competition your dog must clear numerous obstacles. If it fails one 5 points are deducted. One point is deducted each second your dog exceeds the minimum time. Some competitions have a minimum of how many points that can be deducted, if you exceed them you lose. If a tie occurs the dog who completed the obstacle course the fastest wins Tips: Guide your dog for it to complete obstacles faster, as your dog gets better it will need less guidance from your. Note: You don’t have to keep on clicking on a spot for your dog to move there you can just drag the stylus of which spot you want it to go. This helps with some obstacles. 1) Hurdles and Long Jumps Guide your dog near it and when it is in a good position hit it twice for it to make the jump 2) Tunnels Guide your dog to the entrance of the tunnel, then guide your stylus above the tunnel until it leaves the tunnel. 3) See-Saw Guide your dog on the white opposite side of the see-saw. When it is there, hold the stylus behind the dog so it will stay in place (if you don't train your dog in this area, some may get scared and run off the see-saw) Once the see-saw drops down, guide your dog off of it. 4) Poles Guide your dog by dragging the stylus in the directions you want your dog to maneuver around the polls (the better you train your dog in this area the faster it will maneuver around the pool, and sometimes it will do it without your help) Payout Amounts: Beginner 1st Place: $100 2nd Place: $50 3rd Place: $30 Open Class 1st Place: $200 2nd Place: $100 3rd Place: $60 Expert Class 1st Place: $300 2nd Place: $150 3rd Place: $90 Master Class 1st Place: $600 2nd Place: $300 3rd Place: $180 Championship Class 1st Place: $1000 2nd Place: $600 3rd Place: $300 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Obedience Competition ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You are judged from an average of 1-10 ratings made by 3 judges. The higher the ranking the more likely you are to win. At the end of the competition the winners are announced. The judges also base the scoring on how your dog looks, be sure to bathe and groom it! When you are in Free Performance mode, you must input any tricks that your dog knows, anything it knows you can say. Tricks that are needed: Beginner Class Sit, Shake, Lie Down Open Class Sit, Shake, Lie Down, Roll Over (Side or Back), Spin Expert Class+ Sit, Shake, Lie Down, Spin, Roll Over (Side or Back), Jump, Beg Payout Amounts: Beginner 1st Place: $100 2nd Place: $50 3rd Place: $30 Open Class 1st Place: $200 2nd Place: $100 3rd Place: $60 Expert Class 1st Place: $300 2nd Place: $150 3rd Place: $90 Master Class 1st Place: $600 2nd Place: $300 3rd Place: $180 Championship Class 1st Place: $1000 2nd Place: $600 3rd Place: $300 Note: When you practice specific tricks, your dog will get better at holding them for longer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now you can win, or at least try to :P ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============================================================================== 5) Tricks ============================================================================== Thanks to MarioRPGMan Edited by me (yeyeokid). Tricks are not only cool, but you need them to participate in Obedience contests, here are the tricks, and how to teach them to your dogs! To teach your puppy a trick, you have to make them do the trick, then touch the Lightbulb in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Record what you want the trick to be called, by saying it clearly into the mic. Nintendogs manual recommends you to speak 6 inches away from the mic. You have to get your dog to do the trick multiple times and repeat what you call it for them to learn it Did You Know?: When your dog follows your command while learning a trick a lightbulb appears above it's head, move this lightbulb to it's mouth and it will eat it!! Note: Depending on your dog's characteristics and personality, it can only learn a set number of tricks per day. The average dog can learn 3-4 tricks per day, but some are said to even learn up to 6-8 a day! Look for keywords like smart, and a fast learner when buying dogs to see if it's a fast and good learner. Trick Name: Sit How to do it: Place the stylus at the top of your puppy’s head (it is best to pet them first), and then slide it down to make him/her sit. Trick Name: Lay Down How to do it: Make your puppy Sit. Then do the same thing you did to make them sit; Start at the top of their head, then slide the stylus down. Again, it is best to pet them on there head while doing this. Trick Name: Shake How to do it: Get your puppy in it's normal position or make your puppy sit, then touch and hold down the stylus on their paw, and move it up a little bit. Trick Name: Spin How to do it: Make your puppy turn around, so their tail is facing you. Touch and hold their tail near their face (but not to close or it may bite it!) for a few seconds, then the puppy should start ‘spinning’. Trick Name: Roll Over (Side) a.k.a. Play Dead How to do it: Make your puppy lay down. Then turn them onto their side by sliding the stylus from right or left (depending on their position) Trick Name: Roll Over (Back) How to do it: Make your dog roll on it's side, and then use the stylus to roll them on their back, so all four paws are up in the air. Trick Name: Wave How to do it: Make your dog sit, then touch the paw that you didn’t teach shake to, and pull it up too about the level of their head. Trick Name: Jump How to do it: There are two ways to do this trick, one way is to make your dog run up to you then move the stylus left and right to get its paws off you; when doing this if you tap above his head he should jump. Another way to do this is that a lot of times the dog wags it's tail, you can put the stylus above Its head and it would most likely jump. Trick Name: Wag Tail How to do it: I don’t think you can make your dog wag their tail, they just do it randomly. When they do wag their tail, that’s when you can teach them the trick. Trick Name: Beg How to do it: When your dog has it's attention on you quickly, but carefully move your stylus to its chest all the way up it's neck. If done correctly your dogs will go on its hind legs and "beg". This trick is somewhat tricky and a lot of times it'll fail when you try to get him in that position. Just keep trying!!! Trick Name: Sneeze How to do it: To make your dog sneeze, tap their nose. -Note: To do this trick your dog must first learn sit and jump- Trick Name: Back flip How to do it: This trick may be tricky, but it is really cool. To do a back flip first your dog must be in the sitting position. When it is sitting say the command you gave it to jump. Doing so will make it do a back flip! ============================================================================== 6) Dog List and Personality List ============================================================================== Here are all the dogs and their descriptions and basic outlined personalities. Entering competitions is the number 1 way to make the most of your money, the more dogs you have, the more competitions you can enter, the more money you get. 2) Sell items you find on Walks. A lot of etc. items you find on walks are useless and are meant to selling. You can sell these items for a few bucks and some even go up to 100+ 3) Buy more dogs. Yes buying dogs really earn you a bigger income, even though the first price of getting one may be steady, once you have more you can get on walks more often (3 dogs, every 30 minutes walking can give you a good rotation so you can just walk rotating dogs without having to wait) More walks = More Presents = More Money. Clock ============================================================================== 10) Bark Mode ============================================================================== Bark Mode is a wireless "exchange" system so to speak. To use bark mode you are going to need Two nintendo DS's and two games of nintendogs. To setup Bark Mode, make sure both DS's are on, go to "Go Out" and select bark mode. The DS's will search for others in bark mode nearby, and depending on the interference and other technical issues around the DS's it may effect the range of which you can operate with each other. The DS on default as a 30ft guaranteed range, but some reports are up to 100ft. Now when you have all of this setup, you have to choose a puppy to send into bark mode. Once you do that, it will ask you whether or not if you want to give an item to the other trainer. Once you sort out all the settings, you can say yes and begin the searching. You can use bark mode while your DS is in sleep mode. When a connection is made your DS will make a "barking" noise indicating that a local is available. When you play with a friends dog, note that your friend isn't controlling the dog, and you both still have your own worlds of the games. Your friend however can send you voice messages, which you can then listen to. While in Bark Mode, the dog your friend sent to you will now be available in the Kennel. And vice-versa for them. You need to send a DIFFERENT dog, and so do they if you wish to gather another dog in order to have it in your Kennel. ============================================================================== 11) FAQ ============================================================================== NOTE: QUESTIONS ANSWERED IN THE WALKING SECTION FAQ ARE NOT ANSWERED HERE. Q: Is this game in Real-Time? A: Yes, 24 hours in real life is 24 hours in the game. Q: Can Dogs Breed? A: No they cannot. Q: Do the dogs grow up? A: No they never grow up, they don't get sick, and they stay puppies at the same age forever. Q: Can I starve my dogs? A: Technically not, but if you don't feed them or give them water they won't like you as much and you put yourself at a risk of losing your dogs temporarily (a.k.a.) they run away from you. Q: MY DOG IS NOT ON THE SCREEN!?!?!? A: Your dog went away for a while, just wait and it will return (either it ran away because you deprived it, or it was so bored because you’re an awful trainer that never plays with it that it went looking for some other dogs to play with Q: What is the difference between the versions A: The only REAL difference is the exclusive items in each version. You can get all the dogs in each version, but the things that change are the Starter dogs Q: I paid for a house, where is it? A: Wait till the next day. ============================================================================== 12) Secrets ============================================================================== USA Version Secrets Note: once you have enough Trainer Points for a dog, you get it via buying it with the Kennel. For all Version: Dog Biscuit Treat: When you pet or teach your dog a new trick sometimes a biscuit outlined object will appear underneath your dog. This object can be dragged into the mouth of your dog as a "treat". Lightbulb Treat: When teaching your dog how to preform a trick, if it listens to your command
a lightbulb will appear above his head. You can drag this lightbulb to it's
mouth and it will eat it.

Gift or Another Dog
When you are on a walk and you come up to one of the [?] boxes, your dog should
bark once or twice. If it barks once it's a gift. If twice it's another dog.

Walk without the 30 minute wait:
To do this trick, make sure you have an Asscessory on you. Select which dog you
want to walk with. While planning the route for the dog, go through as many [?]
blocks as possible. Once you have done that, make your way to the park, then
back to your house. When your dog starts the walk, when it gets to the park
change the accessory it's wearing into something else. After the game finishes
saving, turn off your Nintendo DS. When you reboot you will notice that you
have obtained all the items you did in the walk, and you can walk again with
the same dog without the wait.

Note: You do not get Trainer Points while using this glitch
