INTRODUCTION - WHAT THIS GAME IS ABOUT| +-----------------------------------------+ Thank you for reading my first guide ever! I hope it helps you with this amazing puzzle game. Magnetica is a remake of Puzz Loop, an arcade game made in 1998 by Mitchell Corporation. The goal of the game is to get rid of all the marbles in the chain. You get rid of marbles by flicking marbles from your launchers at the chain and trying to match up three or more same-colored marbles. The matching marbles will disappear from the chain. BUT! The chain is moving, and if it reaches the reactor (the glowing hole) the game is over! Also, marbles have magnetic properties. Say part of the chain is left seperate from the other. Look at this example: RBBRRRRBBBRRRBBB RBBRRBBBRBRBRBB Say that R is a red marble and B is a blue marble. The first chain will continue moving, while the second chain would stay put. When the first chain hits the second chain, they'll merge together and continue moving. But say you launch a red marble at the front of the first chain, in front of the blue marble. (Or a blue marble at the back of the second chain.) The second chain would go backwards towards the first chain and merge together because marbles with the same color are "attracted" to each other! Watch out for bearings! Bearings are metal marbles that can only be destroyed by eliminating a group of marbles next to it. For example: XRRX. X is a bearing, R is a red marble. To get rid of the bearings, simply get rid of the two red marbles by flinging a red marble at them! +---------------------------------------------------+ |2. VERSION HISTORY - ADDED STUFF AND BLAH BLAH BLAH| +---------------------------------------------------+ *Version 0.5 - 06/27/06 - Created Walkthrough. *Version 0.6 - 06/27/06 - Added Quest levels 35-39. *Version 1.0 - 06/27/06 - Fixed a big goof about level 19, and started the Puzzle Mode Walkthrough with the first 5 puzzles. *Version 1.5 - 07/16/06 - Added Quest levels 40-58. *Version 2.0 - 07/21/06 - Finished Quest section! Added info about bearings to the intro. Next to come: what colors appears in which Quest levels. +------------------------------+ |3. CONTROLS - SIMPLE AND EASY!| +------------------------------+ Use the stylus and the touch screen to navigate menus, and flick marbles from your launcher. The only button used is the Start button, which pauses the game. **FLINGING MARBLES** It's easy once you get the hang of it! Simply touch the launcher and drag the stylus in the direction you want to shoot the marble. +------------------------------------+ |4. GAME MODES - THE MEAT OF THE GAME| +------------------------------------+ There are four game modes: Challenge, Quest, Puzzle, and Versus (Multiplayer). Each one has a totally different style of play. +---------------------------------------------+ |4a. CHALLENGE - 99 LEVELS OF NON-STOP ACTION!| +---------------------------------------------+ That's right. In Challenge Mode, you must destroy marbles in a never ending chain. As you destroy more and more marbles, the level increases. As the level increases more and more colors appear, making the game harder. Once you beat level 99, you win! After 10 levels, you will get a detonator in your launcher and a rocket will appear in the chain. If you hit a marble with the detonator, all the marbles of that color will disappear! For example, if you hit a red marble with a detonator, all red marbles will vanish. The rocket will push the marbles in front of it faster, but it can be destroyed by hitting it with a marble or eliminating all the marbles in front of it. There are four difficulty levels in all: Training (a simple spiral), Normal (same as Training, but harder), Hard (Two curvy tracks), and Special (a very large spiral). You start out with Training and Normal. Since I have only beat Training and Normal, I have no clue how I got Special, which makes me think that unlocking levels is more about points then clearing them. More to come when I figure this out. +----------------------------------+ |4b. QUEST - A MAGNETICA ADVENTURE!| +----------------------------------+ Quest takes you through over 60 levels of Magnetica action! Destroy all the marbles in the chain, and you go onto the next level! --Gimmicks-- *Slot - Fire a marble into one of the slot holes and spin the slot machines to get items! See Quest Items for a list. *Switcher - These tracks branch off into two different tracks. There is a Switcher, which will switch off between those two tracks. The marbles will go in the direction of the switcher. *Impact Barrier - This thing goes around outside the track in a certain path. If your marble hits it, the marble will fly off the screen, and have no effect whatsoever. Really annoying. *Line Barrier - PURE EVIL. This is like Impact Barrier, only it's a straight line that will toggle on and off. *Graviton - A weird circle that, when a marble passes over it, warps the direction of that marble. *Black Hole - A Graviton with a black circle in the center that sucks up any marble that passes near it. PURE EVIL. *Ion Cloud - On these tracks, occasionally clouds will float down onto the screen. Blow into the mic to get rid of them. *Water - The level will be completely underwater, which slows the marbles down. *Virus - Viruses wander around the field. See Quest Items. *Wind - A wind is constantly blowing downward, which affects the gravity of the marbles. --Quest Items-- Hit these items to activate them! *Decelerator - A yellow clock. Slows marbles down for a short period of time. *Suppressor - A red clock. Stops marbles for a short period of time. *Inverter - A blue clock. Reverses the direction of the marbles for a short period of time. *Detonator - Whatever color the marble that you hit this with is, all marbles of color will vanish. Ex: Hitting this with a blue marble will eliminate all blue marbles. *Virus - These wander around the field. When you hit them, they disappear. However, if you ignore them, they turn some of the marbles on the chain into bearings. *Bronze Coin - 1,000 Bonus Points *Silver Coin - 5,000 Bonus Points *Gold Coin - 10,000 Bonus Points *Platinum Coin - 50,000 Bonus Points --Reactor Medal-- As you pull off chains, the "medal" in the reactor changes from bronze to silver, and if you're good enough, from silver to gold! +-------------------------------------+ |QUEST WALKTHROUGH - SLIGHTLY DETAILED| +-------------------------------------+ --KEY-- Name: The name of the level. This isn't in the game, I just make these up. Description: A description of the level. Gimmicks: The gimmicks included in the level. See the Gimmicks "sub-sub-section" above. --LEVEL 1-- Name: Inward Spiral Description: A small spiral leading towards the reactor. Gimmicks: Slot --LEVEL 2-- Name: Serpent's Tail Description: A pretty straighforward level. Near the end, it curves around into the reactor. Gimmicks: Slot --LEVEL 3-- Name: Round Rectangle Description: A rectangular spiral leading inward towards the reactor. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 4-- Name: Odd Spiral Description: A weird level that goes around, does a U-turn, and then goes into the reactor. Gimmicks: Slot --LEVEL 5-- Name: The Nose Description: Seriously, this thing looks like Wario's nose...It has lots of curves, but nothing should get in your way. Gimmicks: Slot --LEVEL 6-- Name: Magnetica's Curves Description: This very curvy level has two launchers, each one within one of the curves. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 7-- Name: Loop Introduction Description: This level has two loops, where it overlaps itself. There are two launchers, one in each loop. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 8-- Name: Horseshoe Description: This level resembles a horseshoe, with its many confusing curves. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 9-- Name: Double-U Track Description: A track that resembles the letter W. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 10-- Name: Switchoff Description: Okay, this level goes straight, then curves into the switcher. If the switcher is pointed down, you're in luck. That path will curve around, taking two turns, and then go into the reactor. If the switcher is pointed to the left, the chain will go into a straight line right towards the reactor! The switcher will most likely change near the end, which is really annoying. Gimmicks: Switcher --BONUS 1-- Bonus: Jar-O-Coins Description: Hit the question mark thingy with marbles to make it drop coins. Collect coins by shooting marbles at them. How many coins can you collect? --LEVEL 11-- Name: Over and Under Description: This level starts out pretty easy, but part of it goes over the previous part of the track. You can't hit what's under it, unless there's no marble on the top part. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 12-- Name: Double Trouble Description: Oh no! Two tracks are leading towards to the reactor. The blue tracks stays under the purple track when they cross. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 13-- Name: Two and Two Description: Two curvy tracks are leading towards the reactor in the center of the level. However, there are two launchers: one on either side of the reactor! Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 14-- Name: Symmetrical? Description: This level looks symmetrical, with two curvy chains leading towards the reactor. Gimmicks: Slot --LEVEL 15-- Name: Switcher's Return Description: Think of two rounded rectangles overlapping each other, and the track is the outline. The track takes you straight, then two turns, and straight into the switcher. The switcher switches between two branches. The left branch appears to be longer then the right branch. Gimmicks: Switcher --LEVEL 16-- Name: Nebula Tracks Description: This layout reminds me of a weird figure 8. There are two tracks, and two launchers: one in the upper-left loop, and one in the lower-right loop. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 17-- Name: Three's a Crowd Description: ...I'm not even going to TRY to describe this. There are three VERY curvy tracks leading towards the reactor in the center. There are THREE launchers, one by each track, and near the reactor. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 18-- Name: Pinwheel Description: This level has three tracks that go straight in one direction, then curve into the center reactor. The one on the very left, however, is the longest: It goes straight up, curves right, then goes right a bit and then curves into the reactor. Like Level 17, there are three launchers, one by each track, and near the reactor. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 19-- Name: Symmetrical Nightmare Description: There are FOUR TRACKS leading into the reactor. Each one curves, goes straight, curves again, goes straight again, then curves and heads towards the reactor. There are two launchers, both on opposite corners of the reactor. Gimmicks: None --LEVEL 20-- Name: Warning!!! Description: There are FOUR TRACKS leading towards the reactor (in the center of course), but the worse part? The overlap each other, there are only two launchers and they're both on opposite corners of the reactor, and this level starts out in the WARNING ZONE. Luckily, this is (most likely) the last level design. HUZZAH! Gimmicks: None, thankfully. --BOSS 1-- Boss: Magnetica Snake Description: Hey, it's that question mark thingy again! However, there are marbles around it in a spiral fashion. Destroy all the marbles to defeat the boss! How fast can you do it? --LEVELS 21-40-- These levels are remakes of the first 20 levels, only with different gimmicks and they're harder to beat. You have been warned. (Ex: Level 21 is a remake of level 1, Level 37 is a remake of level 17, etc.) Level 21: Impact Barrier, Slot Level 22: Impact Barrier, Slot Level 23: Line Barrier Level 24: Impact Barrier, Slot Level 25: Graviton, Black Hole Level 26: Graviton, Black Hole Level 27: Impact Barrier, Ion Cloud Level 28: Impact Barrier Level 29: Impact Barrier, Ion Cloud Level 30: Impact Barrier, Switcher Bonus 2: Just a harder version of Bonus 1. PUZZLE - BRAIN POWER NEEDED!| +--------------------------------+ In puzzle mode, you must destroy all the marbles in the chain. However, you must destroy them with a certain number of marbles! To clear a puzzle, you must destroy all the marbles, and you must have no marbles left in your launcher. There are 60 puzzles. You start out with the first 10, and when you clear 8 out of those 10, you get the next 10 puzzles. When you clear 8 of those new puzzles, you get 10 more puzzles, and so on and so on. Can you clear all 60? +----------------------------------------+ |PUZZLE WALKTHROUGH - CERTAINTLY DETAILED| +----------------------------------------+ --PUZZLE 1-- Marbles in launcher: red Fire the red marble at the center group of red marbles to create a 3-chain combo and clear the puzzle! --PUZZLE 2-- Marbles in launcher: green, purple Fire the green marble on either end of the chain so it's next to another green marble. Then, just like in the first puzzle, fire the purple at the group of purple marbles to create a 3-chain combo and clear the puzzle! --PUZZLE 3-- Marbles in launcher: blue, yellow, red Fire the blue marble on either end of the chain next to another blue marble.
