Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm going to try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. Yes, this is a remake of Estpolis II/Lufia 2. Yes, it's almost a completely different game. It's still fun, so hopefully this thrown together guide can help you out through almost any of the situations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Gameplay ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- The Basics --- The Action RPG genre is a little different from the turn-based style of the original. In this game you control one of up to six characters at a time (able to switch at will for the most part) battling and solving puzzles. --- Utilizing the Mini-Map --- The mini-map can be your best friend in this game. For starters, it tells you where to go (the purple arrow leads to the exit, the blue arrow is the exit). The blue arrow also can signify certain objects that you need to collect. You can also see the terrain around you in order to easier find out of place treasure chests. There will also be various colored dots as well - these are typically switches/levers/posts to be used for the various puzzles. Often times you'll find yourself out of view of these normally, but would be able to find them on the map. --- Fighting --- Each character has a few basic attacks - normal attacks, Y, that can create a multi-hit combo and can be toggled with L. The character's skill, X, can also be used to solve puzzles or traverse across maps easier. Each of those attacks can be charged with R. Skills take IP, which is the orange bar under the HP bar. It recovers over time at a rate depending on what equipment or Grid Pieces you have on. You can dodge roll, A, and jump, B, to avoid attacks by enemies. Later in the game you get the ability to double jump. When you double jump and attack you will do a powerful attack. --- Overkill --- Killing enemies nets both gold and experience. Attacking the enemy after they are initially killed will get you more experience and gold, as well as soul shards (which can be used to trade for rare items). It's possible to get 50% increases to either this way. Experience is red, gold is yellow, and soul shards is blue. --- Don't Sweat the Small Stuff --- This game is all about second chances in that it consistently makes sure you can finish the game without pulling out all your hair. Save points restore your health completely, as do viewing cutscenes and leveling up. Use this to your advantage when you're in dungeons. You can retry on boss fights or puzzles if you find yourself losing or getting stuck. Just power through and you'll eventually make your way to the finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Soma Temple 1F --- Enemies: Red Jelly Run forward and familiarize yourself with the button scheme (see above) before you press A and confirm to move up the dungeon. Hop on the platform and kill all the enemies. The platform will rise and allow you to proceed to the next one. This continues on until you reach the top of the dungeon. This boss is completely optional. In fact, you really cannot win in the first place. If you really want to try, dodge his arms when they smash the floor. You can only attack the right arm (aim for the glowing red orb). After you hit it enough times he will blow out some steam and the red orb in his abdomen will glow. A rock will fall in the lava, allowing you to strike. Once you hit it the battle will end. --- Elcid --- This is your hometown. Go south and inspect the refractor in the middle of the village. Go to the right and talk Albert in the garden then go left to the shop and talk to Tia, then Albert again, then back to Tia. Afterwards, head north to Lexis' lab. Choose the bottom option and we now have a third selection on the world map! --- Gordovan Drawbridge - First Level --- Enemies: Red Jelly, Killer Bee, Blue Jelly Treasures: Potion, 240 G, Miracle Fight past the first encounter and head immediately to the right. Follow that path and jump on the boxes (using the ledge) to grab a POTION. To the left of that is a block that you can push towards two blocks with 240 G in a chest. When you're done head towards the blue arrow on your mini-map and you will gain access to the RESET device, an invaluable tool when it comes to puzzle solving. Push the block into the middle on the rusted square to open up a ladder. Before going down, however, run to the left platform and look for enemies to kill and chests to pilfer. You should be able to pick up a smaller crate and toss it on to the boxes. Then push the blue box closer so you can grab the MIRACLE. --- Drawbridge S Control --- Enemies: Killer Bee, Blue Jelly Treasures: Potion, White Coat, Charred Newt, Miracle To power the machinery you need to push the two levers marked on the mini-map. You're also given the ESCAPE tool, which lets you leave dungeons and towns. Start with the right side. The lever is easy enough to get to. Head down the nearby ladder. Be careful not to fall - you won't die, but you will lose HP and that could cost you later on. Continue southward until you learn about IP attacks. If you've already played around with the controls you'll know that Maxim can dash forward at a quick speed. While this is a pretty neat attack, it can also be used outside of battle to move across short gaps. You'll be using this move a lot throughout the game, so remember it (press X). These abilities use up your IP, so be wary on how much you've got left. Once you're on the left platform move on until you see two blue boxes. You can push these to the left to reach the mid-level catwalk. Jump up there and make your way around to find a ladder. To the left of the ladder is a POTION. Before you go up this ladder, go back to the right platform you came from and make your way up the catwalk (there's a ladder to the right) to grab a chest containing WHITE COAT for Maxim. Once you go back you'll see a just out of reach lever. There are some blocks to the right - push one of them back towards the lever. Only you'll move it up at the last minute in order to reach a ledge. Hook a right and dash across the blue blocks to get a CHARRED NEWT. Now go back to pick up the smaller red box, which will let you reach the second lever. After this you will head to the blue/purple arrow on the mini-map. Just before you go down the ladder, stand just next to the ledge that has that first switch. Then dash across the gap. It may take you a couple tries, but you'll get a MIRACLE. Rapidly tap A. Now you'll go back to the lower level in order to reach another machine in which you'll tap A (it's right by the ladder on the right side). --- Drawbridgre N Control --- Enemies: Blue Jelly, Poison Butterfly Treasures: 300 G, Antidote, Rapier Go forward and push the blue block onto the X switch. Jump up and head right to find a lever. When you push it you can jump on the platform to the right to get 300 G. Go back to where you raised the platform and you'll find an ANTIDOTE. Now go left past the SAVE POINT and you'll find a two-level tower. Push/pull it to the right and next to the small level in order to jump up to the higher area, where you'll find a chest containing a RAPIER. You should then see another two-level tower. Push it down and center it across the gap. Go back up the way you just went and use that new tower to get across. Jump on the platform to the left to find the missing lever and then use it. Save the game and then go up to power the machinery. Go down the new path and you'll fight a boss battle against some not-so-hard enemies. Be careful of their spin attack which will knock you out temporarily. They should be easy to defeat otherwise as long as you can dodge them. At the end of this TIA will join your party. --- Parcelyte --- Enter Parcelyte (the new option on the World Map). Take an immediate right to find the shops and Jessy. She will give you rare equipment if you bring her the remains of overkilled enemies (soul shards that you may find). For every 30 that you bring she will give you something new. On the opposite side of the town is Jaffy, the glassmaker. Talk to him and remember his location - he's important. Talk to the rest of the townsfolk and eventually you'll go towards the Presidential mansion to talk to the President. Go back, and when Rochy approaches you, select the first option and leave town. --- Tanbel Abandoned Mine --- Enemies: Lizard Man, Bomb Jelly, Pumpkin Head Treasure: 500 G, Featherweight, Miracle, Raincoat, MIRACLE Using Tia's hookshot, you can grab the key from across a wide chasm. Place it in the holder and ride the elevator. Go right until you are asked to open a chest to obtain 500 G. Hookshot or Dash across the gap and grab a bomb. You need to place them by the purple crystals and ignite them by throwing or attacking them. Or you can just set an unlit bomb on the square to raise the platform. You need to lure the Bomb Slime enemies to the purple crystals. You can also hookshot them, but you run the risk of blowing them up (which WILL kill you). Grab the FEATHERWEIGHT from the chest. Go north and you'll run into Jaffy. Talk to him twice. Cross the next gap to pick up a MIRACLE. Cross the right gap (leaving the crate behind). Nab it with Tia and use it as a stepping stool to the next level. Follow the path until reach a platform. Stand on it with Tia and punch the lever. Then grab the black keystone and alternate between grabbing it and various poles to make your way across the row of gaps. Just after the last pole, hookshot southward to reach a treasure chest with a RAINCOAT. Use the black keystone as a step then grab the crate and throw it down next to the keystone. You can then pick it up and bring it to the gate. Just to the left of the exit is a pole. Use it to reach another MIRACLE. --- Tanbel Mine North --- Jump on the trolley and get ready for a maze of sorts. You'll want to jump the first gap you see, and then the one directly after that. Don't change your tracks and you should catch up to the thieves after a third jump. Still three jumps this next time. Jump once, then jump two times in a row to make them change the layout once more. For the third time you need to change the way you're going by basically going in a circle. Don't be afraid to test it out with some jumps (you won't die if you fall) and just make the three quick jumps at the end to reach the southern most rail. --- Tanbel Mine SE --- Enemies: Lizard Man, Pumpkin Head, Bomb Jelly Treasures: Leather Armor, Miracle, Mind Ruby XS The important thing here is to know that you do not need all of the energy boosts - only five. Getting all of them does not help you complete the dungeon, but it will effect what item you get. The blue arrows are where they are on the map, so feel free to get just five or all of them (I'll show you how to get all of them). First is easy - grab a bomb and blow up the wall just north of the station. Hit the lever once to change the tracks and ride it to the next station. Step on the platform and hookshot the previously caged boost. Turn around and hook the post to reach a treasure chest containing LEATHER ARMOR. Continue to the next station. Run to the left and make your way up the poles. You need to hit the tip (the different colored part) in order to climb it. Go back to the station and follow the tracks to the right until you can't move anymore. Then go up to grab the fourth boost. Now go just south of the station. Push the higher block down onto the left most switch. Stand on the right switch with Maxim and dash towards the gate. You should have just enough time to get it before the gate closes. Go back the way you came and ride the trolley back to the beginning. Hit the lever to change the tracks again and ride to the next station. Just to the left is a hole covered by some wood. Smash it or pick it up to get the sixth boost. Stop at the next station and go south to find a MIRACLE. Next, use the bomb enemies to break the crystals around the box on the right side. Push the box towards the cliff to get the seventh boost. Now use Tia to reach the northeast area. Hookshot to grab the bomb as you climb to get the final piece. Ride back to the beginning and inspect the monitor to gain access to the next map. ------------------------------------------------- Number of Batteries | Reward | ------------------------------------------------- | 5 | HEART GARNET S | ------------------------------------------------- | 6 | | ------------------------------------------------- | 7 | POWER PEARL S | ------------------------------------------------- | 8 | MIND RUBY XS** | ------------------------------------------------- **denotes a blue/carryover item --- Tanbel Abandoned Mine --- This part can be very frustrating, if only for the fact that you'll start at the beginning should you make one mistake. The easiest way to do this (for me anyways) is to listen to the advice from the characters. For this first part you will always do exactly what the thieves do. There's a sort of rhythm to each jump/duck, and when Tia or Maxim yell out, just follow that same rhythm. I'm sure you'll get a hold of it sooner or later. The real frustrating part is dodging multiple rocks in a row, in which case I just mash the Y button. Here's a simple outline of how they go: 1. Jump, Jump, Jump 2. Jump, Jump, Duck 3. Jump, Duck, Jump 4. Duck, Jump, Duck 5. Jump, Duck, Duck, Jump 6. Duck, Duck, Jump 1. Duck, Duck, Jump 2. Duck, Duck, Duck, Jump 3. Duck, Duck 4. Duck, Duck, Duck 5. Jump 6. Duck, Duck, Jump 7. Jump You have two different rounds of this and then you will switch to an isometric view. Instead of going right after the thieves, you will go at the exact same time. The controls aren't any different, just be wary. Here's how that one works: 1. Jump, Jump, Jump 2. Jump, Jump, Duck 3. Jump, Duck, Jump, Duck 4. Jump, Jump, Jump 5. Duck, Duck, Duck 6. Jump The last level you'll simply want to just ride the same rail and jump for the one large drop. If you have trouble, try mashing the duck button to get through some of the harder parts. --- Tanbel Abandoned Mine --- Kill the enemies and talk to Jaffy. Leave. You'll get access to the Mystic Stone Board once you leave here, which will be explained in more detail later. --- Parcelyte --- Return to Jaffy's shop. Talk to him again and then go back to Rochy to get a cash reward. You'll run into Guy and he will join your party and go back to the Abandoned Mine. You can use Guy's attack to break crystals now. You can often find items in them, so break everything you see (note: a lot of the items will be stone pieces, and may be random). --- Tanbel Mine SE --- Enemies: Skeleton, Rafflesia Treasures: Mind Glass M, Plate Clothes, Power Glass L, Mind Glass L, Safe Suit, Miracle, Crit. Glass S, Heart Glass S Go immediately to the right and break the large purple crystal with Guy. Kill the enemies to find the key. Open the gate and go right. Destroy the few crystals there are and pull the platform along the path and into a small square hole. Work your way to the left, jumping across platforms to find a treasure chest containing a MIND GLASS M. Go back to the right to find some blue crystals. These must be destroyed at the same time. Use Guy's Charged "Y" IP and you will find the key. Go left at the fork and fall down to grab a PLATE CLOTHES from a treasure chest. You have to go left to get back up. Go up to the right toward the bottom corner of the map to get a POWER GLASS L. Continue forward and watch the next scene. First things first, avoid the enemies and grab the wooden board. Place it over the hole in the ground. Then destroy the towers and the enemies. Take the key with you and open the next gate. Grab the bomb and place it (don't set it) above next to the lone blue crystal. Then go south to reach a treasure chest containing SAFETY FIRST. Go back and set off the bomb and (with Guy) destroying the two below to obtain MIND GLASS L. Take another bomb with you across the giant crystal (smash the rock above it with Guy) and place it next to the first blue crystals you see. Set it off and destroy the two just below it to get a CRIT. GLASS S. Get another bomb and place it on the right side of the gate near the top two crystals. Smash the bottom ones to get a HEART GLASS S as a reward. Go down just a bit to get a MIRACLE. --- Tanbel Mine North --- Enemies: Skeleton, Rafflesia Treasures: Shamshir, Hammer Axe, Heart Glass S, Heart Glass M Place bombs on the two side switches and hookshot the key. Before you go into the newly opened gate, go down to pick up a SHAMSHIR. Go right and up by smashing some boulders with Guy. Jump over the gate and hit the lever. While you're there, pick up the HAMMER AXE. You can also destroy those blue crystals next to the gate for a HEART GLASS S. Once you're up the next level, follow the lone path to pick up a HEART GLASS M. Destroy the boulders to smash the crystals and ride them up another level to find the next key and a save point. Follow the other path and use the elevator to reach two boulders overlooking the giant crystal. Push them down to create a new platform. Save your game and move forward. --- Tanbel Mine: Bottom --- Your first move in this boss battle should be to destroy a couple of the wooden towers alongside the edges. This will make it harder for the boss to sneak around you. Then you simply need to wait for the boss to appear on a tower. Attack it and he falls down, allowing you to destroy him. Simple as --- Parcelyte --- Go talk to the President again and Selan will join your party. --- Soma Temple B1 --- Enemies: Red Shell, Fire Spirit Treasures: Killer Edge, Miracle This is the first location on your map (the one the prologue took place in), only this time we're going to the lower levels. You only have access to the girls in your party for this portion of the dungeon, so make sure you have up to date equipment for them. Selan has a boomerang tool that is used extensively in this dungeon. Use it to ignite the bomb at the beginning. Take the first upper right on the moving platform, fall down to the purple key and then hit the switch with Selan. Now make your way to the other side and deposit it where the blue arrow is on your mini-map. Take the only platform and follow the path, ignite the bomb between the stacks of blocks, and go forward to reach a KILLER EDGE. Hit the red target to lower the platform, then hit the red target on the other side to raise it. Ignite the bomb to be able to grab a MIRACLE and the next key. Go back the way you came and drop off this next key. Go back the last path you were just on but veer to the center pillar in order to reach the southeast portion of the map. This will lead you to the top level where you will now go to the left to find the third key. Return to the glowing platform. --- Soma Temple B2 --- Enemies: Lava Beast, Fire Spirit Treasures: Potion, Power Glass M, Mind Glass L, Contender, Miracle Go south across the breakable walkway to nab the first key, picking up a POTION as well. Drop it onto the glowing platform and hop to the right (near the bomb). Hit the red switch to get the second key. Go back to the right a little further to find a POWER GLASS M. Go back to the glowing platform and go left to where the third key is. Set it down so you can be able to hit the nearby red target, which will start up the center pillar. Now lose the keys and go to where the bomb and blow up the two large blocks. Jump on the moving platform and go right until you can see a red target. Hit that and jump on the platform. You should be near the lava now, so jump on the rotating platform until you see a glowing one. An enemy will appear, weighing down the platform. You have to kill it so you can ride the platform upwards. Run across the breakable walkway. You now have to climb the walls across. If you veer back to the center pillar after crossing the wall you can run to the left side that was previously unreachable to pick up a MIND GLASS L. To get back simply jump across to reach the climbable wall once more. You can also find a CONTENDER on the very bottom right of the wall. Just before the exit is a drop that leads to a MIRACLE. --- Soma Shrine - B3 --- Enemies: Red Shell, Fire Spirit Treasures: Mind Garnet L, Crit. Glass S, Miracle, Flame Robe Climb the wall upwards and use Tia to hookshot to a treasure chest for a MIND GARNET L. Jump across the lava, then onto the floating platform to find a Crit. Glass S. Follow the path to a crystal - have Tia press it to drain some of the lava. Now go back around to where you can see two walkways on the map. You'll want to fall on down to one of these (from the upper level, where the floating platforms are) to reach a MIRACLE. Now go in the direction of the purple arrow and fall down to the right to pick up a FLAME ROBE. Go back to where you picked up the Miracle and continue falling to the right. You must ride the floating lava platforms. The first platform will take you to a save point. The second one will take you to the exit, just keep moving to the left. --- Soma Temple: Bottom --- Enemies: Fire Spirit, Death Knight Ride the floating platforms, making sure to get off at every stable one. Hit the red target to lower the center pillar where you now have access to the whole party. Defeat the Death Knights (their attacks can diminish your IP). --- Parcelyte --- Talk to the President, which will lead you to a boss battle, which can be tough. Make sure you have as many of the stones equipped. The strongest equipment for everyone will also help. Watch for the boss when he's on the top screen. He'll do one of two things: he can slam down upon you, knocking you out with a shockwave, or he will send boulders raining from the skies. Make liberal use of the roll ability to dodge his drop-down attack. When the boulders hit, just keep an eye out on the ground looking for the shadows. On the ground he will charge at you or send waves through his sword in your direction. Jump to avoid the waves, roll to avoid his melee strikes. He transforms twice during this battle. After his second transformation he will randomly use a purple barrier, which will nullify (almost) all attacks. Just keep dodging until the barrier is down. That's the gist of the battle - dodge his melee, roll to avoid the boulders and don't attack when he's glowing. Defeat him fast enough and you will obtain the GADES SWORD. --- Gruberik Bridge W --- Enemies: Manta Ray, Lizard Warrior Treasures: Knight Glass L, Fly Slayer, Freeze Disc, Power Garnet M Climb the ladder and hit the red targets. Push the blocks out of the way and ignore the treasure chest. The blue boxes can be destroyed by Selan (you may need to charge it). Hit the blue targets to stop the wind and hit the red targets to open the next path. Then go back to the treasure and get a KNIGHT GLASS L. Climb down the next ladder to pick up FLY SLAYER. Double jump up the crates to be able to hit the red targets. Go forward and pick up a FREEZE DISC. Use Selan to break the blue boxes. Climb the ladder to hit the targets again. This next path you'll need to go down the ladder to get past the crates. Once you climb up, ignore the treasure and push the first box as far right as you can. Then push the second box down enough to get through. Switch to Maxim if you aren't already and dash repeatedly to get across to the end. Go back to the ladder to hit the targets and reach the treasure chest to get a POWER GARNET M. --- Gruberik Bridge Lighthouse --- Enemies: Ogre Treasures: Mind Garnet S, Chainmail, Pile Driver Before you climb the tower run around the right side to get a MIND GARNET S. Now go up the wall and go right to get a CHAINMAIL. Climb up but stop off at the next platform to get a PILE DRIVER. Do some jumping and climbing and you'll come to a platform. Stand on it and hit the red target with Selan. Your best bet is to go outside of the fenced area to hit it. Finish the boss by avoiding the laser attacks. Then jump up to where the target is on the left side and use one boomerang attack to hit all three. --- Gruberik Bridge E --- Enemies: Manta Ray, Ogre, Lizard Warrior Treasures: Potion, Heart Jade S Pick up the POTION while you're fighting the onslaught of enemies. You now have to use Tia, who gained a new IP ability which is pretty powerful. Follow the same strategy you used atop the tower, only now watch out for his stronger laser attacks. Before you exit you should pick up the HEART JADE S. --- Bound Kingdom --- Treasures: Heart Garnet L When you enter the city take an immediate right and scale the boxes/buildings you see to find a HEART GARNET L. Go forward, watch the scene, and then leave. --- Logismos Temple 1F --- Enemies: Green Jelly, Hornet Treasures: Miracle, Linderhof This may seem intimidating at first - platforms will only appear if the blue cube is in close proximity. You'll be spending a majority of your time in this dungeon carrying it across the room. Go straight and then take the second set of stairs. You'll jump up a few of the blocks (making sure to grab a MIRACLE to the right) until you walk on a platform above where you entered. You're going to want to take the eventual square that seems to pop up on its own. Keep following that path to get a LINDERHOF. Now go back and take a right, which will eventually lead you to a platform with three possible directions. Go right and defeat all the enemies. You can then hookshot to get the key. Now you have to juggle both the key and the magic cube (remember, you don't have to be holding the cube for it to work) across to the left side. When you get to the top-left area in the mini-map you don't need to worry about taking the cube with you. Just get the key safely across the two glass platforms and set the cube next to it. You can then carry the key to the exit. --- Logismos Temple 2F --- Enemies: Hornet, Death Knight Treasures: Sage Garnet M This will be a little different, although the cube still works in the same way. You'll be spending more time without it, however. Pick it up and take a right to grabe a SAGE GARNET M. Go back to the left and kill all the enemies to rise up the elevator. Once you reach the treadmill you'll want to drop the cube at the edge. Quickly climb the ladder and beat the cube to the edge (where it will be raised via another elevator). Go back the way you came and take a right. After following the path for a bit you'll want to climb as high as you can (though you won't be able to make the jump to the right platform) you can see a green dot on the radar - hit that with Selan, then hit it again once you step on the new platform. Now go to the left and go down, taking the leftmost path. Kill the enemies here and the treadmill will start with the key on top. Follow the key (while holding the cube) in order to get it safely across to the exit. --- Logismos Temple 3F --- Enemies: Moth, Death Knight Treasures: Miracle, Rogue Pearl S, Slit Dress Save your game and ride the platform straight. Kill the enemy to get a cube of your own. Go to the right first and pick up a MIRACLE. Take your next right to climb up a level and hit the red target with Selan. Go back to the now-working elevator. Kill all the enemies to make the elevator appear and grab a ROGUE PEARL S. Keep following the path and switch to Tia. Set the cube on the end of the treads and quickly get to the other platform. Hookshot the cube. You'll do this a second time, only the directions make it a little tougher. Ride the next set of treads, but be wary of the enemies that may appear on it. Grab the SLIT DRESS. Now this next part may be a little tricky. Set the cube on the treadmill and climb while it moves. Stay on the outside until you find yourself on the left side of the treads, then make the jump inside. Once you get to the top just ride the platform until you find yourself facing an enemy. Kill it and ride the new platform to the exit. --- Logismos Temple Top --- This boss can seem a little daunting if only because you have others to watch out for. If they get hit too much, the battle's over. You can use the golden cube to deflect any attacks around the captives, or you can load your character up with a lot of GUTS stone pieces and simply take the very small damage. The boss floats around the tower and along with it platforms rise and fall. You may have to try a few times before you get a good rhythm going with the fight. After you damage it enough it will disappear and you'll have to kill off a few minor enemies. It returns again, only is a little more agile and a bit sneakier. Then it will try and squash you - simply run around until it lands and then wail on it some more until it dies. --- Bound Kingdom --- Go back to the throne room and Dekar will join the party. --- Parcelyte --- Return here and talk to the President. --- Soma Temple --- Enemies: Light Spirit, Death Knight Treasures: Red Saber Well this awfully familiar. Basically we're retracing the steps from the prologue section of the game. Pick up the RED SABER and defeat the first round of enemies. Again, you just need to make your way up like before by killing and climbing. Eventually you'll reach the boss, which you WILL need to beat this time. The first round is just like before (only he should be easier to dodge now that you can double jump). He strikes at you with both hands, you hit his right hand enough to gain access to the core. When he stretches both hands behind him watch out - he's preparing to smash you, so get moving. When he lets out steam he won't attack so get in as many core-hits as you can. Every so often he'll launch two boulders at you like giant bullets. They should be easy enough to dodge by rolling. When he puts his hands to his face he's going for a clean sweep, so dodge as best you can. Eventually he'll knock out both sides of the ground, leaving you with only a small square to fight him on. The strategy remains the same, only you're confined to very close quarters. --- Parcelyte --- Go talk to the President. --- Soma Temple --- Enemies: Light Spirit, Death Knight Follow the exact same path again. When you get control of Maxim make your way up the path (it's straightforward). Mash 'A' when prompted and quickly climb upwards, avoiding falling debris as much as you can. Then continue smashing 'A' when asked. Fight this boss the same way, only this time you begin on just the tiny surface. --- Parcelyte --- Before you leave, talk to Jaffy, who can now combine stone pieces for you. --- Ancient Cave --- Enemies: Vary Treasures: Vary You start out with basic equipment, no stone pieces and all your characters are level 1. The floors are all randomized, but for now just remember that you all you need to do is reach the exit. A glowing teleporter will take you to the exit, but you'll have to start over if you do this. There are no save points, but Jaffy may appear to sell items and equipment. See the section on the Ancient Cave for more information if you want to pursue this area outside of the main storyline. Continue down the dungeon until you fight the mini-boss. --- Parcelyte --- Return to Selan's house (second on the left). --- Gratze Empire --- Go to the throne room, talking to everyone. Check the second house on the right on your way back and try to leave the town after the scene. --- Ice Mist Mountain Road --- Enemies: Blue Shell, Chilly Pumpkin Treasure: Crit. Jade M, Miracle Go north and around until you get to the first vent. After the scene, push the ice block up a bit to reach a chest with a CRIT. JADE M. While you're up there grab the keystone and throw it on to the blue platform that's just out of reach. Go back and across the ice bridge, climb the wall and then the next wall. Push the flame block into the vent and then go right. With Tia, step on the platform and then hook the keystone. Go back to the flame blocks, using them as steps if you can't throw the keystone up, drop the key and ride the elevator. Grab the MIRACLE, then push the ice block into the vent. Push the flame block across the bridge and into the next vent. --- Ice Mist Mountain Base --- Enemies: Blue Shell, Chilly Pumpkin, Ice Beast, Bomb Jelly Treasure: 1200 G, King Garnet S Go up to grab 1200 G, then push the flame block into the vent, grabbing the keystone. Ride the elevator, then take the other keystone and place it in front of the vent. Go up and push the second keystone in front of the exhaust. Push the ice block down the vent to freeze the keystone, then push THAT ice block onto the switch. This lets you reach the platform, so climb up. Push the ice block next onto the platform, then jump up and push the flame block onto the switch. Now take the ice block and drop it into the vent. Cross the bridge and rope the bomb enemy into the vent (you don't need to set it off, just get it into the vent). Make a quick left up the new path to grab a KING GARNET S. Go across and attack the flame block to get it inside the square just in front of the vent. Then use the nearby block to power it. You'll have to hit it from across (so place the block just behind the exhaust) in order to get through before the ice reforms. --- Ice Mist Mountain Side --- Enemies: Blue Shell, Chilly Pumpkin, Ice Dragon, Bomb Jelly, Ice Beast Treasure: Heart Garnet M Knock the ice block into the vent and cross the bridge. Push the other ice block in front of the exhaust and melt it to find the keystone. Go back to the left and drop it. Push the ice block down in front of the vent and melt it using the Bomb Jelly (like before). Ride the lift and go left. Jump across the gaps and push the ice block into the vent. Run across and knock the other ice block across the bridge and melt it with the flame block. Then just use Tia to hook it across the gaps to get back to the main area. Drop the keystone in, and go down just a bit to find a chest with a HEART GARNET M. Climb the lift. --- Ice Mist Summit --- Treasure: Potion, Power Jade L, Metal Coat Go back to the left to find a lone POTION. Climb the wall and stay on the right to get a METAL COAT. Go up and to the left to find a POWER JADE L. From there you should be able to double jump to reach the far right wall to get to the exit. --- Ice Mist Mountain Top --- Enemies: Ice Beast, Chilly Rafflessia Save your game and fight the enemies. --- Gratze Empire --- Deliver the flower to the house on the right. Go to the fortress and to the guest room on the left to talk to the prince. --- Parcelyte --- Find and talk to Jaffy (second option). --- Gratze Empire --- Go back to the prince. Now go to the opposite side of the fortress to enter the dungeon. --- Gratze Factory B1 --- Enemies: Giant Enemy Tank, Golden Bee, Flying Armor Treasure: Metal Armor, Power Jade M Key to surviving this dungeon: Yellow laser is lock on, red laser is imminent fire. The tanks do tremendous amounts of damage, so just try hard to avoid them. You do, however, use there own tanks to destroy the gates and enemies found throughout. Go to the ladder to the right, climb through the ducts and then maneuver past the next tank to reach the next area. Now run all the way across to the left to find a METAL ARMOR. Make your way northward to the purple arrow and have the tank fire upon the gates a few times each to reach a ladder. Hit the flashing panel. Go through the duct and down to reach a POWER JADE M. Go back up the duct and go left. Ignore the elevator for now and go left, avoiding the tank. Touch the flashing panel and then go back to the elevator. --- Gratze Factory B2 --- Enemies: Giant Enemy Tank, Golden Bee Treasures: (Tank), Awake While dodging the tank, get it to break down all the gates surrounding it (not counting the bottom left one). Then you'll need to grab the bomb from each room (they only appear one at a time, so just keep checking rooms until you find it) and throw it onto or in line of the tank to damage it. Five times should do it. Make sure to keep as far away from it when you can. Getting the tank to destroy the crates in the room could yield treasures. --- Gratze Factory B3 --- Enemies: Turret Treasure: Heart Garnet M, Crit. Garnet L, Mind Garnet M, Antidote Afterwards you control it for a brief time. 'Y' to shoot, the shoulder buttons to move aim. There are items in the various crates throughout, and you can also destroy gates to find items and grid pieces. The turret enemies work just like the tanks, so destroy them as soon as possible. When you're done, save your game. --- Gratze Factory Depths --- For this battle you'll want to spend the majority of your time on the upper levels. Use the conveniently placed elevators to do so. Use the mini-turrets to attack the tank while avoiding it's charged cannon fire. When it shoots out missiles, simply attack them to send them back to deal more than just 1 damage. Also make sure to avoid the mini-cannons the tank also employs, though the really bad part about those is that they simply knock you down. To avoid the big cannon, either run like hell or jump to the lower levels. If any missiles fall to the ground without exploding, you can pick them up and toss them at the tank. After a few hits the tank will spin out of control and you can walk up the cannon to attack the thieves. Do this a few times and the battle is over. --- Bound Kingdom --- Go talk to the prince and then leave. --- Ancient Cave --- Enemies: Vary Treasure: Vary Same situation as last time - only blue equipment/grid pieces to start with, all characters are level 1. Don't exit if given the option (unless you need to for healing). You need to get to the 15 floor to advance the story. --- Boss --- Attack when the purple aura is down. After the mechs are summoned you should focus on them, and then the aura will drop again. If Tia has the Machine Freak Title, she should be subbed in to handle the mech enemies. --- Bound Kingdom --- Go to the castle, talk to Alex and then leave. --- Gratze Empire --- Talk to the Emperor. Go back to Leon's room, then try to go back to the factory. Return then go to the area behind the throne room. Climb the ladder to the top and then run to the front of the rocket. --- Elcid --- Talk to Lexis, then talk to Albert (the old man in the garden), then leave. --- Mountain of No Return Shore --- Enemies: Purple Rafflesia, Green Shell, Toxic Pumpkin Treasure: Miracle, Awake Go as far as you can before you have to turn back. Go backwards and to the right and attack an odd-looking pile of plants. Now go to the newly created bridge (make sure to keep running or you'll fall in). Now find the same plants to get lily pads to form another bridge. There is a MIRACLE just south while you search for the pads. You have to follow the exact same path for the next to bridges or you'll be sent to the start. They both make a sort of check mark pattern and then cut back at the end. Before you go up the slope, hop across the waterfall to grab a AWAKE. Defeat the enemies and Artea will join your party. --- Mountain of No Return Forest --- Enemies: Poison Moth, Purple Rafflesia, Toxic Pumpkin, Water Dragon Treasure: Miracle, Heart Pearl L, Charred Newt, 3000 G Use Artea's charged multi-shot to hit all three targets at once. Cross the river on the right side and once again use Artea's multi-shot. This will create a whirlwind, which you will use (along with Artea's glide ability) to get across the rest of the dungeon. Also, destroy the crystals you see along the forest to find some items. Float forward to the easy to see chest for a MIRACLE. Stay on that rise and take a left to reach another whirlwind. Jump into it and float to the right to grab a HEART PEARL L. Now make your way to the left side of the map (on the logs just to the right of another whirlwind). Doublejump southward to reach a normally out of reach branch. Walk along this branch and then cross to the other side using a whirlwind. Go down to find a CHARRED NEWT. Continue right to a whirlwind that will lift you up to a chest with 3000 G inside. Now position on the area just to the left of the place where you originally hit four switches and stand just in front of the moving whirlwind. You're going to use it to get to the high tree in front of you. Kill the monster to form a new whirlwind that should take you up and out. --- Mountain of No Return Cliff --- Enemies: Toxic Ray, Jellyfish, Poison Moth Treasure: Miracle, Sage Jade M, Spirit Cloth, Mind Jade S Head to the right to grab a MIRACLE. Make your way north and fight the jellyfish enemy to create another whirlwind. This map is fairly straightforward as you just kill enemies and float your way upwards. There's a SAGE JADE M in a chest that's back a little bit, on the right side. You can reach it by just floating that direction once you're higher up (near the end of the map should do it). Keep progressing until you see four or so whirlwinds on the mini-map. Just ride them in a clockwise fashion (you can pick up a SPIRIT CLOTH on the tree to the far left). Before you exit, jump down to the right to grab another MIND JADE S. --- Mountain of No Return Bridge --- Enemies: Jellyfish, Poison Moth Get the jellyfish out of the way and then take your time picking off the aerial enemies. The flying enemies are easy to take out if you have someone set with magic stones to avoid damage from falling. Just jump over the bridge with a double jump attack until they fall. --- Eserikto, Sacred Forest --- Treasure: Miracle After the scene, run to the top left area to find a sort of out of place vine ladder. Climb it to reach a MIRACLE. Then return to Artea and choose the second option. Then go talk to Artea again. --- Elcid --- Enter and then go talk to Lexis. --- Parcelyte --- Enter and then go talk to the President. --- Bound Kingdom --- Enter and then go talk to the Alex. --- Gratze Empire --- Enter and then go talk to Leon. Then talk to the guard at the entrance. --- Logismos Temple B1 --- Enemies: Undead, Ghoul, Armored Knight, Ice Spirit Treasures: Mind Jade M, Master Blaster For the next dungeon, I will be using a map system, numbering the squares so as to make it (hopefully) easier to navigate through the rooms. The map will be the same for each of the three rooms, so please refer back to it as you finish this dungeon. I will first list the direct path to the exit, followed by the extra rooms which contain treasure/enemies. Here is the map. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] [ 10] [ 11] [ 12] [ 13] [ 14] [ 15] [ 16] For most of the rooms you will need to jump on every platform AND get safely to the edge. The edges may drop depending on what room you're in. You can safely stand on the platform as long as you need but when you jump off (when it's green) it will disappear. When you jump off a red one it will turn green. And you cannot jump diagonally. There will be at least a few puzzles that may stump you if only because you will forget this basic rule. The other simple but easily forgettable rule is that you cannot go back to the edges once you start - if you do, you have to start over. There are multiple ways to finish each puzzle and there are a lot of optional directions to go. I'm going to instead just list off the direct route (for now anyways) to the end. Just focus on getting the cubes in all the keyholes for now. Once you finish one room it's completed for good, so feel free to go back and get the other rooms later. The key to remember in my awkward directions is that 'jump' means jumping across a square (so as to avoid touching it) or over a gap. Start: 13. Drop the cube. 9. Run the path directly. 5. Start on the bottom left side. Walk two right, then jump right. Walk left and then up. Jump left. Walk up and then left. Jump right and go to 1. Defeat the enemies. 2. Start at the top, jump all the way to the right. Then, jump back the way you came to get to the other side. Walk down one square, left one, jump right and then finish. 3. Start at the bottom left. Jump up, right, down, then finish. 7. Defeat the enemies. Go down. 11. Jump all the way down the middle. Then go in a counter-clockwise way and make sure to step on all the blocks before jumping across. 15. Save and go down to the next level. For reference, enemy units appear in Rooms 1, 4, and 7. Treasures appear in Rooms 14 (MIND JADE M) and 16 (MASTER BLASTER). ---

Fight the enemies and then go to the puzzle. A MAELSTROM lies in plain
sight, so grab that before starting. The goal is simple - getting the lasers to
land on the three yellow crystals at the front (green dots on the mini-map).
First, go to the middle pillar and push it just to the right. Push the pillar
next to it down in the way to set off the first crystal. Now take the left most
pillar and push it to direct it's laser downwards, which in turn will direct on
to the second crystal. Then push the right most pillar forward to direct its
laser down, which should automatically solve the puzzle for you.

First, move the right two pillars down enough to send the laser to the middle
crystal. Now move the two at the top to the left to direct the laser to the
left crystal. The trick here with the last part is that you cannot move two
of the pillars. It's simple enough when you have the first two crystals out of
the way. Just move one of the left most pillars to direct the beam down and
you're done.

right, that pillar will deflect TWO lasers upwards, which in turn will get both
of the remaining crystals.

Go right and down to find a POWER PEARL S. Go back to the left side and then go
forward until you come across a moving platform. Hit the switch to go all the

time your jump to reach the whirlwind (you may have better luck using the
mini-map for this). Aim for the center area and then go all the way down to
try and jump into the next whirlwind. Use this to access the chest with a
ZIRCON AXE. From there go to the left to jump the whirlwind, which should
place you directly where the crystal is. Step down on the platform and walk
it across to the pillar.

Again, the goal is to kill everything here. Stand on the left area to wait for
the whirlwind in order to reach the chest with a TREASURED DISC at the bottom of
the screen. Use the whirlwind to reach the last enemy. Ride the elevator and
destroy all the enemies.

Enemies: Toxic Ray, Undead
Treasure: Mind Jade L
Ride the platform down to get a MIND JADE L. Go back up and then right the next
one down to the rising platform. Then move the next platform left. Use Tia to
get across the next platform, and use Selan to hit the target while you ride
the platform to the right. Go up the stairs and jump to the second platform.
Ride it down once and then jump back to the first and ride that one over. Go
around to ride another platform north to grab the keystone. Ride this next
platform back down and drop off the key, then stand on the platform just below
the switch (use the radar). Double jump to hit the switch.
Go up the stairs and past the crystal stand. Drop to the left to grab the
crystal. Continue down and double jump to create a platform. Ride the next one
across and go up the stairs to drop the crystal. Go back down the stairs and
stop the platform in the middle to advance.

This dungeon consists solely of boss fights, two of which you have already
fought before. The strategy remains the same for the first two. The third boss
fight is not winnable. Just survive as long as you can. The last boss fight can
be easily manipulated by charging to create a sort of time flux in order to
freeze the boss and annihilate him. Defeat it and enjoy the credits (and then
start the New Game Plus)!

XI. Egg Dragon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Egg Dragon is found in the well in Elcid. Offer it the eight hidden dragon
eggs for great rewards.
You have to defeat the following bosses quickly to obtain the Dragon Eggs. If
you did it in the correct time, you will obtain the egg before the next scene
begins.
Dragon Egg 1: Defeat the boss at Tanbel Mines
Dragon Egg 2: Defeat the boss at Logismos Temple
Dragon Egg 3: Defeat the boss at Soma Temple (2nd Battle)
Dragon Egg 4: Defeat the boss at Logismos Temple (2nd trip)
Dragon Egg 5: Defeat the first boss at Doom Island
Dragon Egg 6: Defeat the second boss at Doom Island
Dragon Egg 7: Avoid being damaged against the third boss at Doom Island
Dragon Egg 8: Defeat the final boss at Doom Island
Your rewards for collecting Eggs (no matter which order you present them) are:
1 Egg - 10,000 G
4 Eggs - Egg Sword

XII. Ancient Cave

The Ancient Cave returns, and is as random as before. Initially a dungeon found
within the storyline, the AC takes the player on a randomized adventure down
numerous floors. In the first game, you are only able to traverse down to the
30th floor. Upon starting a New Game +, however, you get the opportunity to
go all the way down to the 100th floor (and you can go as soon as you have
access to the world map, too). There cannot really be a guide to the whole
dungeon, as it changes every time. But here are some tips and information that
you may find useful.

Start from scratch
---
When you start the dungeon, all your levels are set to 1, you get very basic
equipment for all characters, and you have no money and no items. You have to
rely on items/equipment you find throughout the dungeon. There are ways around
this restriction, however.

Feelin' blue
---
Any blue equipment/magic stones you find throughout the game (including in the
AC) can be used from the very beginning. This will make surviving so much
easier and is almost a necessity. You can of course equip stronger items when
you come across them - but the blue items are a safety net that should be used.
Note that you still will retain all soul shards that you get, which really helps
in trading with Jessy.

There are a number of different types of treasures chests you will come across.
Regular - contains a normal item
Mimic - looks like a regular chest but instead is an enemy
Blue - contains a blue item
Mimic - looks like a blue chest but instead is an enemy
Gold - contains an Energy Cube

Friendly neighborhood Jaffrey
---
Jaffrey appears at the entrance to the AC and will randomly appear in hallways
later down the dungeon. He offers items, equipment and information. He will also
be willing to combine magic stones you find. However, being the difficult
dungeon that it is, he charges roughly ten times the amount of what you would
pay outside.

Who designed this place?
---
While the floors are all randomly created, you will quickly notice similar
layouts for the long journey down. There are really only a few different types
of rooms that you will come across.
Hall of Impatience - This will be a random room that offers you a free exit
Treasure Rooms - This floor will consist of a lot of treasures, and often
strong enemies
Trap Rooms - You may come across a lot of these even on one floor. The
doors will shut and you are forced to kill the enemies.
Hallways - Areas where you may find Jaffrey or gold chests, but
no enemies.

Energy Cubes and you
---
Once you reach the 30th floor, you will need to use Energy Cubes to access the
teleporter to go to the 31st floor. This will happen every 10 floors and again
on the 99th floor. Energy Cubes are found in gold chests, which can appear
after fully clearing a room. They may also be found in random hallways or even
earlier in different floors in regular chests. You will always be able to find
enough Energy Cubes to advance - however, it is always a good thing to try and
stock up if you can.

Core decision
---
You will invariably come across these strange enemies (and often they appear
in trap rooms) called Cores. They're strange hollow cubes in various colors.
Kill them all as fast as you can! They offer some of the best experience in the
game and it is very easy to gain 2-5 levels in one room full of them. They
become stronger as you go deeper into the AC.

The boss
---
At the final level, you encounter a boss you may think looks easy. Just be
prepared to finish it off quickly, as you only have a short time limit to kill
it. If you do not defeat it fast enough, you get no reward and have to try
the dungeon all over again.

You can't take it with you
---
Remember the main rule - other than blue items, you cannot take anything you
find in the AC out when you finish it (or leave early). Take advantage of this
and use your Gold (you won't keep it when you leave) to combine blue magic
stones to increase their strength.
