Introduction [INTRO] -------------------------------------------- This is the place where I say the stuff you're probably not interested in, even though it's important. -------------------------------------------- a. About the Author [AUTHR] Hi! I'm Tom (a.k.a. gravy229) (best known for my Kirby and the Amazing Mirror FAQ), and I'll be your guide through this game. As always, feedback and constructive criticism are always welcome (see Contact Information for more details). I have been playing Kirby games for a very long time, even since Kirby's Dream Land first came out! My favorite game of the series so far is Kirby's Dream Land 3. *Sigh*...What a classic! I know how to 100% every Kirby game there is, and I could probably whip out a FAQ on every one of them if I had the time and motivation. ...Which brings me to my next point. I am a high school student, and I don't always have a lot of "me time", so when I say "Coming Soon!", that really means "Coming After My Homework is Done!" I will not "date" my next update, I will just update the FAQ whenever I get around to it. Other than that, I really hope my FAQ is very helpful to you in conquering Kirby: Canvas Curse! -------------------------------------------- b. Contact Information [CNTCT] My email address is nuclearlemons@comcast.net. Any information I ask for as well as any corrections, questions, or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Please do not dump tons of info in my mailbox if I don't ask for it. I don't want my mailbox flooded with facts I was about to get myself. Also, if you are going to criticize my FAQ, make sure that you use constructive criticism only! If you send me an email that says, "You are a moron. You suck at life," I will block your email address. And that wouldn't be good when you actually have a serious question for me and your email gets bounced back to you, now would it? Other than that PLEASE criticize my FAQ. This is my third FAQ, and I would like to know how I have done. When you send me an email, make sure the title bar says: Kirby: Canvas Curse - gravy229. If it does not say anything about Kirby or does not have a title, I will not read it. Here is my list of stuff I will be accepting in emails: Comments, questions, corrections, concerns, construcitve criticism, scores and ranks for sub-games -------------------------------------------- 2. Version History [HSTRY] -------------------------------------------- Version 0.26: 06/23/2005 Ugh! I had to work today, and therefore all I felt like doing was fixing the three spelling errors I found and add neoseeker to the allowed sites. I will continue to keep the N!'s on the Table of Contents just because of the fact that this thing isn't even a day old yet, so everything is pretty much still new. Version 0.25: 06/22/2005 Hopefully I remember to save this time... Stuff You'll Find, Enemy List, Medal Swap, How to Use This, all of the Sub-Games section, and the entirety of the Conclusion. Now all that's left is the Walkthrough! This is coming along a lot quicker than I thought it would. Two days left to finish! Version 0.06: 06/21/2005 Looks like I forgot to save, but I did save two things: The Characters section and the info for Crash in the Copy Abilities section. Looks like it's back to the drawing board... Version 0.05: 06/20/2005 First version... Recent News!, Table of Contents, About the Author, Contact Information, this, Story, Controls, 91% of Copy Abilities. So... tired.... -------------------------------------------- 3. Game Basics [BASIC] -------------------------------------------- Here is everything you would want to know before starting your game and then some. I would HIGHLY recommend reading this if you have never played any Kirby games, and if this is your first time playing this game, I would still read it. If you are very familiar with the game, skip this section. -------------------------------------------- a. Story [STORY] Welcome to peaceful Dream Land. Kirby's on a nice stroll... Suddenly, the world's colors warp, and a strange witch arises! Drawing in the air, the witch turns the land into a painting. Seeing Kirby, the witch flees to the sky, toward a weird vortex. Kirby gives chase... Into a world of paintings. He challenges the witch, but her magic turns him into a ball! Helpless, Kirby watches the witch escape... Looking down in shame, he sees the witch's Magical Paintbrush... Kirby touches the rainbow brush and... I transports to you on a ray of light! -------------------------------------------- b. Walkthrough [GUIDE] -------------------------------------------- This is the part you're interested in... the walkthrough for this game. Enjoy, y'all! -------------------------------------------- a. How to Use This [HOWTO] This guide is crazy, mixed up, and hard to read, so I'm going to give you a little demo on how to use it. Here are the parameters: If you are going for medals, read everything in boxes. If you are not going for medals, don't read the boxes. If you read a box, and there is something that looks like this "->(!!)" at the end, skip to the paragraph that starts with "!!" OK, here's an example: You're reading through my FAQ and you come across this: Paragraph 1 +-MEDAL TIP-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Paragraph 2 ->(!!) | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Paragraph 3 !! Paragraph 4 If you are collecting the medal here, you should read 1, then the box (2), then skip to the "!!" and read 4. If you are not collecting the medal for any reason (ie you already have it), you should read 1, then skip the box and go to 3, then read 4. Got it? Well, if you don't read this again and see if you can figure it out. Also, at the end of each level strategy, I will give you a list of requirements for medals in both Time Trial and Line Trial, then give you tips for each. Well, now that you know what you're going to be seeing in the next part of your life, you now get to see it. Lucky you! -------------------------------------------- 5. Sub-Games [SUBGM] -------------------------------------------- Here's a little list of the sub-games, how to play them, and how they're scored. Just as a sidenote, in order to unlock a sub-game, you must first beat the corresponding boss game on level 2. -------------------------------------------- a. Block Attack [BATTK] In this game, you will be asked to defeat all the enemies in a certain room to progress to the next room. In order to do this, you will need to draw paddles for yourself, quite like you would draw lines in Main Mode, except in this game, you will bounce off the paddle at the same angle you came toward it, quite like Pong. There is another problem, though: scattered around the rooms, there are blocks in your way! In order to destroy a block, you must first reduce its strength. It strength is denoted by the number of stars that appear on it (ie 3 stars means it has a strength of 3). To reduce a block's strength, either tap it or hit it with Kirby. Kirby can destroy blocks with a strength of 1, but if you tap a block with a strength of 1, it will crack. Kirby will travel through cracked blocks, and also get more points from them. Other blocks include bomb blocks which explode when tapped or hit (don't get stuck in the blast radius!), spark blocks which hurt you, and bubble blocks which appear and disappear. Hitting bumpers will give you stars, which translate into points. Speaking of stuff hurting you, you begin with 4 vitality, and if you run out, it's game over. But don't fear, Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes can be found all over the place. You are also constantly being timed. If you complete a room, you will get a time bonus. If you run out of time, you lose. To defeat Kracko and Kracko Jr., hit them in the eye with Kirby. Kracko Jr. will have little bubbly things around him; try to get in between those to hurt him. Kracko has cloud-like things surrounding him; one hit will make those disappear. Hit his eye before they come back though! Also, watch out for his Spark attack, which will hurt you. Four hits should take either of these out. Scoing: Clear Stage: 1000 pts. Blocks: 10-40 pts. Block Tap: 1 pt. Enemies: 100 pts. Kracko & Kracko Jr.: 1000 pts. Star: 10 pts. Get an "A" rank or above on level 3 to get a medal! -------------------------------------------- b. Cart Run [CRTRN] In this game, you are on a cart, racing against Dedede. In order to control yourself, you will need to move a line generator on your right up and down to draw a path for you. Ramming the generator into enemies, blocks or hammers will destroy them (except for Gordos, of course). Food is your main priority in this game: collect food to go quickly. One piece of food will make you dash, while two pieces of food in quick succession will make you super dash! Also, watch your life in this game; the main way to lose here is to run out of life. Keep a look out for Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes, because you only get 4 vitality. You are also being timed, but don't worry about this too much. Finish a course to get a few extra seconds. Scoring: Blocks: 50 pts. Dash: 20 pts. Super Dash: 190 pts. Energy Drink: 50 pts. Maxim Tomato: 200 pts. Hammer: 150 pts. Enemies: 100-200 pts. Beat Dedede: 2000 pts. Finish Course: 500 pts. Time Left at End: 50 pts./sec. Get an "A" rank or above on level 3 to get a medal! -------------------------------------------- c. Paint Panic [PPANC] In this game, you will be asked to copy something that Paint Roller draws in order to move to the next screen. Try to do it in one stroke for a bonus! Every 10 "questions", you will be asked to tap the stars on the screen. Doing so 10 times will allow you to go to the next screen. You are also being chased by Bombers. Get hit by four and your game's over! Finish a screen quickly to run away from the Bombers, but miss a stroke and they will come closer. That's really all there is to it. Scoring: Speed: 0-200 pts./question Accuracy: 0-150 pts./question 1-Stroke Bonus: 50-500 pts. Penalties: Missed Stroke: -10 pts. Missed Question: -250 pts. Get an "A" rank or above on level 3 to get a medal! -------------------------------------------- d. Jump!Dash! [JDASH] Though not really a sub-game, I'm covering it here, because this is the place it best fits. At the end of each stage, you will get the opportunity to jump as far as you can to get some extra stars. There are several strategies to this, which are listed below: The first is to tap yourself incredibly quickly, then draw a ramp off the end of the platform and continue to tap yourself mid-air. This is the least effective of the strategies, but it is also the least risky. The second is to do the same thing, but fall off the platform, let yourself bounce, then draw a ramp to get a few extra inches. This is more effective, but also more risky. The third is to do the same thing, but draw a smaller ramp, thereby allowing yourself to draw another ramp, or even two, after you come back down. This is the most effective of the stratagies, but also the most risky. To calculate the number of stars you will get, simply slice off the last two digits, then add a zero. Here's an example. If you get 1834 inches, you would take off the last two numbers (1834 -> 18), then add a zero (18 -> 180). 180 stars. There are two exceptions to this rule: Between 0 and 99 inches, you will get one star instead of zero, and between 3300 and 3325, you will get a whopping 900 stars instead of 330. After you beat the game with all of the characters, you will be able to select Jump Game off of the main menu (it's next to Options). Now, you may be thinking that this is just the normal Jump!Dash! game, but think again: there are two major differences. The first and more obvious is that you will not get stars at the end of this one. The other is that, sitting right on top of the 1500-inch mark is a nice, juicy(?) medal! Be sure not to overshoot it, though! -------------------------------------------- 6. Conclusion [CNCLS] -------------------------------------------- These are just the things I would like to wrap up my FAQ with; none of the stuff here is all too important, but still fun to read. -------------------------------------------- a. My Review [RVIEW] HAL continues to astound me with their great lineup, ever since Kirby Air Ride and beyond. I thought Nightmare in Dreamland was amazing, then they followed it up with the innovation of a non-linear Kibry game (Amazing Mirror), and now this. The innovation of using the touch screen, the way they made a reletively short game longer through the use of multiple characters and the Time Trial and Line Trial modes, and the remixed music are simply amazing. If you enjoy Kirby games, or even just classic platformers, and want a new twist, then you won't be disappointed with this amazing game!* *Not actually guaranteed. But I will be surprised if you disagree. -------------------------------------------- b. Rank Chart [RCHRT] Yes, I realize that this is NOWHERE near even beginning to be started, but there is still SOME information here... Which brings me to my next point: if you have any information regarding scoring and ranking, or you just have some scores that you think might expedite the process of compiling these meaningless numbers, go ahead and email them to me (see Contact Information for more information). Also, I would like to draw your attention now to the Thank You's section right below here, where I have an ever-growing list of people who have sent me info to help compile what I DO have of a chart here.
