Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey there, welcome to the FAQ. Either you're here for learning about Raoh and his fighting style, or you misclicked the link. Either way, this is my first FAQ, don't go too crazy if it doesn't live up to your standards. This FAQ is meant to explain Raoh's moves, and how you can improve your usage with him. If up close fighting is what you prefer, Raoh fits that choice nicely. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Character Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok, I'll be honest. I have no clue who Raoh is, other than that he's from the manga Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star. If anybody else can write up a short but informative summary about Raoh, please e-mail me it. I will put in the description and give credit to the person who created it. Raoh is one of Kenshiro's brothers. He is the oldest of the three, which include Kenshiro, the youngest, and Jackie. Raoh is or thinks he is the strongest and should be the true heir of the Fist of the North Star. He confronts his master after the defeat of Kenshiro by Shin and demands he becomes the heir, but is sent out by the master saying he was too rash about being strong. –Description by gazenhoken Some Pros about Raoh: - Does massive damage with regular attacks. - High health. Only Edijima beats Raoh's 8-block koma in highest health. - His Up Y attack is great when charged up. Some Cons about Raoh: - Minimal ranged attacks, so he is forced to get up in the enemy's face. - Slower than others. - All of his koma are large, so a there's less room to fit more koma in your deck. ~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. Controls ~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll leave the menu controls to another FAQ; this is about fighting as Raoh. Besides, by the time you unlock Raoh, you should be comfortable with the controls. Anyway, the controls for battling! ===================== Control Pad: Movement ===================== Honestly, this should need no explanation. You use the control pad to move the battling character around the screen. Holding down makes your character guard, blocking most attacks from doing damage or causing any effects. However, it is possible for your guard to break if you are attacked too many times while guarding. Double tapping down on a platform you can go through will have you fall through it. ============== A Button: Jump ============== Simple enough, your character jumps. Most characters can jump twice until they have to land, but some can jump 3 times. Raoh, he can jump twice. To drop down through certain platforms, hold down and press A. To drop quickly from midair, hold down and press A in midair. ===================== B Button: Weak Attack ===================== So it says 'weak'. Doesn't mean they stink, B attacks are faster than their stronger counterparts. They don't deal the most damage, but they can start off a nice combo. Holding down and pressing B activates an attack that forces the opponent to switch their battling character with another in their deck. ======================= Y Button: Strong Attack ======================= Just what it says, these attacks do more damage than the B Button. But, they are a slight bit slower. They deal moderate damage. Holding down and pressing Y activates an attack that breaks the opponents guard, dealing damage even if they are guarding. ========================= X Button: Special Attacks ========================= Special attacks are strong attacks that are based off the character's fighting style. Each character has 2 different specials; one activated just pressing X, the other having you hold up and then pressing X. Using any special attack costs you one special bar you have stored up. ====================== L & R Buttons: Hotkeys ====================== A welcome addition not seen in Jump Super Stars, you can assign up to 2 of your battle and support komas to be activated at the press of that button. They save you from having to tap the touch screen to activate the koma instead. =================== Start Button: Pause =================== The start button pauses the game. Does any more need to be said? Note; you cannot pause a game on Wi-Fi. ============================== Select Button: Ultimate Action ============================== Ultimate Actions are like taunts, but they do better than just mocking the opponent; many have an effect tied to them. For Raoh, holding the select button down slowly recharges his special meter. ============================== Touch Screen: Activating Komas ============================== You tap your support and battle komas if you didn't hotkey them here. Tapping another character switches to them while launching a small attack. Tapping a support koma activates their attack. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Raoh's Evolution Chart ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For those that don't know, koma is the term for the character panels you use to create decks to fight with. Go look at another FAQ for more details, or ask on the message boards. To unlock Raoh, finish the 10th mission, 1st objective in the Boss Tower in the J-Blackhole area of J-Universe. You unlock his help koma this way. Now that you have Raoh's help koma, it's time to evolve it into his battle komas. (He has no support koma versions. Oh well.) Go to the J-Power menu, and find his help koma. (2nd koma in the set that has a North Star constellation as its symbol.) There, you can evolve him into his Battle Koma versions. When finished, his chart will look something like this [X1] | | [1H] – [6B] – [7B] – [8B] | | [X2] 1H: Help koma (unlocked after completing mission 10, objective 1 in Boss Tower) X1: Unlockable feature 1 (200 green, 50 pink) X2: Unlockable feature 2 (200 blue, 200 pink, 200 white) 6B: 6-Koma Battle (500 red, 100 green, 30 white) 7B: 7-Koma Battle (700 red, 200 green, 200 white) 8B: 8-Koma Battle (900 red, 500 green, 300 white) To be able to evolve into the 7 and 8 koma versions, you need to purchase the second path upgrade from Yuria's evolution chart. (Girl from the same series, long black hair.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Raoh's Attacks/Abilities ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Raoh has the innate abilities of: - Takes less damage from special attacks. - Gains special energy while guarding attacks. Like every battling character, 3 other characters will give him an ally boost (adds 8 to total health) if their koma are next to Raoh. These characters are: Toki (Hotuko no Ken): The gray haired man, right after Raoh's komas. Yuria (Hotuko no Ken): The woman with black hair, 1st help only koma in the series. Cascade (Midori no Makibaou): The black horse, 2nd in the series. Series symbol looks like a horse (with buck teeth). Raoh is a power type in all his koma, so all of his attacks will deal extra damage to Knowledge based characters, and he will take more damage from Laughter based characters. The setup of each attack will go like so. Button Sequence: Description of attack Damage done to Power & Laughter characters/Damage done to Knowledge characters; Number of hits B: Raoh slaps the enemy in front of him. 10 damage / 15 Damage; 1 hit Forward B: Raoh lunges forward with his palm, going about twice his length forward. Up to 11 damage / Up to 16 damage; Up to 4 hits Down B (forced character swap): Raoh lets out an aura burst at his feet, hitting in front and behind him. 12 damage / 18 Damage; 1 Hit Up B: Raoh stabs his finger up at a 45-degree angle. 10 Damage / 15 Damage; 1 Hit Midair B: Raoh kicks in front him, going a body length forward as he kicks. 10 Damage / 15 Damage; 1 Hit Y: Raoh charges his aura, damaging those around in front and behind him. Using this attack makes his next Forward + Y or Up + Y attack stronger. 20 Damage / 30 Damage; 1 Hit Forward Y: Raoh lunches his palm forward, with an aura burst hitting in front of him. Using Y before using this attack makes his aura reach to the edge of the screen. 20 Damage / 30 Damage; 1 Hit Down Y (guard breaking): Raoh swings his arm, causing a small shockwave on the ground to strike forward. 23 Damage / 34 Damage; 1 Hit Up Y: Raoh unleashes an aura, damaging people to the side and above him. Using Y before this attack makes his aura expand in size and adds some damage. 28 Damage / 42 Damage w/o aura charged, 30 Damage / 45 Damage with aura charged; Up to 10 Hits Midair Y: Raoh slams down towards the earth, thrusting his palm down. Will knock an enemy through a platform if possible. Up to 20 Damage / Up to 30 Damage; Up to 2 Hits Tapping his koma: Raoh does the same animation as his Y attack, but it doesn't charge his aura. 20 Damage / 30 Damage: 1 Hit =============== 6 Koma Specials =============== Koma Shape: [][][] [][][] Type: Power Base J-Soul: 184 X: Raoh starts charging, and then unleashes an energy burst a slight distance to the sides and above. Gains Attack Boost status. 40 Damage / 60 Damage Up X: Raoh's horse gets up on its hind legs for a second, then comes crashing down on the enemy in front. Up to 54 Damage / Up to 81 Damage Personal Opinion: His first special is slow, so opponents can block it easily. His horse also doesn't provide as much knockback as his 7 koma version. Both also require you to be up close, so opponents can knock you out of them anyway. Since Raoh's attacks do high damage and a combo can do as much as his special attacks, this version is fine if you don't plan on using his specials. My favorite one, since I'd rather use special bars on supports instead. =============== 7 Koma Specials =============== Koma Shape: [][] [][] [][] [] Type: Power Base J-Soul: 200 X: Raoh swings his arms, and then unleashes a beam of energy forward, going about one screen distance. Up to 56 / Up to 84 Up X: Raoh's horse gets up on its hind legs for a second, then comes crashing down on the enemy in front. High knockback power. Up to 68 / Up to 102 Damage Personal Opinion: His first special doesn't seem to do enough damage for it's cost, as a combo can do just as much damage for free. The horse special has extra damage, but same speed. The shape is drastically different from the 6 block, so this may fit better in certain decks and vice versa. =============== 8 Koma Specials =============== Koma Shape: [][] [][] [][] [][] Type: Power Base J-Soul: 216 X: Raoh swings his arms, and then unleashes a large beam of energy forward, going about one and a half screen's distance. Up to 77 damage / Up to 115 damage Up X: Raoh lets off a wavy aura. If he is attacked while it activated, he counterattacks and shortly gains invincibility. Note, not all attacks activate the counter and will knock him out of it instead. 85 Damage / 127 Damage Personal Opinion: His beam attack in this one goes a much farther distance, but just be aware that the damage gets really low at farther distances. The charge time is the same as 7, so this version has an edge with its extra range and power. The counter can be brutal, as its damage is high and grants you invincibility. The big problem (literally) with this version is it is 8 panels, making it much harder to fit everything in your deck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Strategies ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Raoh has almost no ranged attacks, the only ones he has are his Forward + Y attack charged with aura, and his X specials in his 7 and 8 koma. Thus, you have to keep chasing the opponent to stay within attacking range. Since he has very few attacks with range, try to pair him with a character that has ranged attacks, like Renji from Bleach and Train from Black Cat. His ultimate action lets him recharge his special meter, but slowly. You can take advantage of this when the opponent(s) are a far distance from you. The more you have in your special bars, the more support koma or special attacks you can unleash. You never want to have a moment when you need the attack, only to have no bars stored up. USE HIS Y ATTACK! It powers up his Forward + Y and Up + Y attacks, making them much more useful. Forward Y will reach a much longer distance ahead, and Up Y will have a huge aura damaging around him. Keep his power charged up so his attacks can become much fiercer, bring you closer to a victory. A basic but effective combo is B, Y, Up Y. Raoh hits them for 60 / 90 without any special bars used. Effective, cheap on special bars, and does about as much damage as a special attack. You can add in Forward B, but there is a chance the opponent will be knocked too far for the rest of the attacks to hit. Midair Y is a force to be reckoned with if the enemy is on a floor they can go through, like in the Naruto stage. If Raoh connects, the enemy is slammed down, forcing them through the platform. If there is a pit underneath, they will most likely not have enough time to recover and jump back to safety. But if you miss, Raoh is left open for enough time to be hit. And be careful when performing this move in areas with pits. Once activated, Raoh won't stop until he hits a surface or goes down the pit. Raoh's special attacks are a bit slow, with each taking around a second to activate, except for his counter. To effectively use them, stun the enemy with a support koma or activate them while other opponents are bust battling each other. With Raoh's counter special, be aware that not all attacks will activate it and instead knock him out of it. Also, his ghost clones need to go out and come back to him before he gains invincibility, so your opponent has a small opportunity to prevent you from gaining invincibility. When the opponent is against a wall, they will take more hits from beam attack specials, since they are not knocked out of its attack range. Take advantage of that when you use Raoh's 7 and 8 block special. For support komas, 3 block Trunks, 3 block Seiya and 3 block Sena (aka the Big 3) are good for every character, not just Raoh. Here are some support koma I find useful that aren't the three, or ones I just like. 2 block Hah Brothers (Eyeshield 21) – Each brother yells out a speech bubble in turn, each bubble bigger and going farther than the last. They're a bit slow, but they drain up to 2 special bars depending on how many times the opponent is hit, and the last speech bubble causes the Stop status. 3 block Daijiro (Kochi Kame) – He moves forward and keeps slashing the opponent. Good as he keeps opponents stuck in his attack, letting you get ready to cause some pain. 3 block Hyoga (Saint Seiya) – He paralyzes opponents that are hit by him, leaving them open for a combo. He also deals damage, unlike some other supports that cause status conditions, and he also drains one special bar from the opponent. 2 block Ikki (Saint Seiya) – He causes one of many different status conditions on opponents he hits, Attack Seal (opponents can't attack), Guard Seal (opponents cannot guard), Confusion (reverses opponents movement controls), or Stop (opponent cannot move or jump). He also drains one special bar. 3 block Gyro (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) – If he hits the opponent, he disables their guard ability. If they can't guard, they can't stop Raoh's attack. 3 block Ta-Chan (Jungle no Ohja Ta-chan) – He's like Trunks, but is a Laughter nature instead. He reaches a farther distance than Trunks does, and can also hit from a closer distance. 3 block Toki: (Hokuto no Ken) – He's like Seiya, but hits a smaller area, needs to be looking at the opponent to hit, doesn't knock opponents to the ground, and lasts a shorter time. He does give a boost to Raoh though. 2 block Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho) – He runs forward and drains 2 special bars from anybody he passes by. He's fast, as he's moving right as you call on him. 2 block Nami (One Piece) – She takes 2 special bars from opponents like Hiei, but is a bit slower than him. But if she hits, you recover 2 special bars. For help Koma, I recommend these kinds. Halve status condition time: Every negative status effect is a hindrance, and 3 block Sena is a fearsome support. With the status time halved, you recover much faster, allowing yourself to return to full power again. Recover health slowly: With Raoh's high health, he is hard to take down. Adding health recovery to him just makes it even harder for your foes to take you down. Strengthen guard: Guarding blocks most attacks in the game, so a stronger guard can keep your guard from breaking quickly. If you do use this help, choose Yuria, as she boosts Raoh (boosts add 8 to maximum health). Triple jump: Raoh is a bit slow, so a third jump can help his maneuverability in the air. Also, it's an extra jump to save you from being ringed out. Increase SP gauge when attacking with a battling character: Self- explanatory, and keeping your special bar high is a great aid for yourself. Add one to the maximum special gauges: Always good filler for any deck. DON'T use on Raoh: Reduce damage from special attacks. Raoh has this trait normally, so it's a waste. ~~~~~~~~ 7. Decks ~~~~~~~~ Here are some decks made by myself and ones submitted by others. They're here just to show how some people use Raoh and are by no means the best decks around. Name: Opposites [1][1][2][3][3] [1][1][4][4][5] [1][1][6][4][4] [1][1][7][7][8] 1: Raoh (Hokuto no Ken) (Leader) 2: Monta (Eyeshield 21) (To Raoh) 3: HAH Brothers (Eyeshield 21) (L) 4: Train (Black Cat) 5: Ichigo (Bleach) (To Train) 6: Mamori (Eyeshield 21) (To Raoh) 7: Josuke (Jojo's Bizzare Adventure) 8: Sven (Black Cat) (To Train) Raoh handles up close fighting and Train fights from the distance Raoh can't. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8.
