Introduction [Intr] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It's been a while since I've written a FAQ, but I've been a One Piece fan for a while, so I decided to write one for the protagonist in the series, Luffy. I'll probably do one for Naruto as well, a bit later. I only have the game for a briefperiod of time though. This will assume you have basic knowledge of the game and of One Piece. I may be doing a Uzumaki Naruto FAQ later, even though I'm not a major user of him, but I figure the lead of a popular Shounen deserves a FAQ when all the playable supporting characters in his series have one. Anywho, let's get to business. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2. Monkey D. Luffy [Lufi] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ============================================================================== A) Description [1Des] ============================================================================== Luffy is a carefree, adventurous soul who captains the Strawhat Pirates. Though notthe brightest person, he's got good instincts and tremendous fighting ability. He currently sails the Grand Line on The King of Beasts, Thousand Sunny, in search forthe infamous One Piece. Luffy is a natural born brawler and if you harm his comrades, he'll make sure you pay for it. Having eaten the Gomu Gomy Devil Fruit, Luffy is a rubberman, and can stretch his limbs for a variety of moves. In the game, Luffy is one of the easier characters to learn. His attacks aren't exactly the most comboable stuff, but they pack a punch, true to his outrageous strength. While he fights suberbly on the ground, he has difficulty fighting in mid-air, so try and stay grounded and use your anti-air attacks to deal with jumpers. Outside of his aforementioned crowd-control, Luffy has fairly average speed, but his range is usually more than enough to compensate. --- Support Boost: Usopp, Shanks, Cobra(Cobra) Passive Traits: Shock Status is Ineffective Kick and Punch Damage is reduced. Cutting Damage is increased. ============================================================================== B) Basic Moves [1Set] ============================================================================== Neutral B: Punch Damage: 6 (9) Hits: 1 Knockback: Minimal Knockdown: No Range: Minimal Lag: Minimal Luffy's basic punch, unaided by his Rubber Body. Good for halting others attacks and leading up into combos, but not much else. There's little drawbacks besides thepitiful range, but Luffy makes up for that with all his other moves. --- Forward B: Gomu Gomu no Rifle Damage: 6 (9) Hits: 1 Knockback: Small Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Minimal Luffy shows off his stretching powers with this move, twisting his arm behind him, then releasing it. The punch goes pretty far, about 3 body lengths and can be comboed out of into almost anything. --- Upward B: Gomu Gomu no Stamp Damage: 8 (12) Hits: 1 Knockback: Small Knockdown: No Range: Great Lag: Small Luffy kicks his leg at a 45 degree angle, stretching his foot out to attack aboveenemies. This is a good anti-air move, with less lag than Pistol/Shotgun. --- Downward B: Gomu Gomu no Ballon Damage: 8 (12) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Minimal Lag: Great Luffy inflates his body to attack from both sides. This isn't a very good move to use on people, although it launches items. --- Aerial B: Gomu Gomu no Spear Damage: 8 (12) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Minimal Luffy stretches both his legs down to strike like a spear. This move is good for attacking directly below you, but not much else. Luffy's aerial game isn't the best, unfortunately. You can hit people through floors for easy KOs or to keep them away from an item, so use it as you see fit. --- Neutral Y: Gomu Gomu no Gatling Damage: 15 (22) Hits: 7 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Medium Luffy barrages his opponent with blurringly fast punches. This is handy for most situations. Keep pressing Y to increase the amount of hits. --- Forward Y: Gomu Gomu no Bazooka Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 1 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Medium Luffy stretches both his arms back, before snapping them forward to create a super strong double palm strike. This is Luffy's main combo finisher and it's also how he gets a lot of his KOs, via Ring Out. The Lag is somewhat of a problem, but use it in a combo and you should be golden. --- Upward: Y: Gomu Gomu no Pistol/Shotgun Damage: 15 (22) Hits: 11 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Great Luffy punches up at a 45 degree angle, stretching his arm out to reach foes at a higher level. This is the anti-ait version of Gatling. If you keep pressing Y, Luffy will flail his arm after he punches, causing multiple hits. The problem is that, if you miss, you'll usually be left wide open. I'd stick to Stamp unless you need the damage or the knockback. Keep pressing Y to increase the amount of hits. --- Downward Y: Gomu Gomu no Axe Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: No Range: Small Lag: Great Luffy kicks his leg up vertically, then brings it down for a thunderous impact. This is his guard-breaker, although it's not that great. You can see it coming a mile away, so it's hard to connect before they interrupt you. Also, the initial kick doesn't hit anything, so don't try to use this for Anti-Air. --- Aerial Y: Diving Headbutt Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 1 Knockback: Small Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Small Luffy dives from above to plant his face into things. This is a fairly quick move and it hits at a diagonal. This makes it a decent lead in to other moves, although you can't hit immediately after landing. --- Taunt: Lunch Box Effect: Increases HP while held. ============================================================================== C) 4 Koma [4Kom] ============================================================================== Here are the special attacks for Luffy. Power: [] [] [] [] J-Soul: 144 --- Neutral/Forward X: Gomu Rush Damage: 20, 20 (30, 30) Hits: 10, 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy flies into a fury and nails the enemy with a Gatling, a Bullet, then two Bazookas in rapid succession. This is a great crowd clearer and also has uses for knocking people off the side. --- Upward X: Gomu Gomu no Storm Damage: 36 (54) Hits: 23 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Minimal Lag: Medium Type: Power After kicking the opponent into the air, Luffy inflates himself and exhales downward, propelling himself after the enemy. He follows up with a barrage of punches, obliterating his target. Despite the pitiful range, this move has it's uses. A short start-up means you can get it in on surprise and it takes you up and out of the fray. Keep tapping X to raise the number of hits. ============================================================================== E) 6 Koma [6Kom] ============================================================================== Power: [] [] [] [] [] J-Soul:160 --- Neutral/Forward X: Gomu Gomu no Golden Rifle Damage: 40 (60) Hits: 1 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Medium Type: Power Luffy performs a Rifle, but with a giant Gold Orb stuck to his arm. This causes a lot of knockback and damage, with little penalty in terms of lag. It can even be comboed into. --- Upward X: Gomu Gomu no Golden Peony Damage: 36 (54) Hits: 7 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Medium Type: Power Luffy jumps into the air and crazily swings around the gold orb stuck to his arm. Oh, what a wonderful move this is. Anti-Air and Crowd Clearer all in one. Not tomention all melee moves are worthless against you for the duration. Try not to spam it too much, or you'll run out of special meter. ============================================================================== E) 6 Koma [6Kom] ============================================================================== Power: [] [] [] [] [] [] or Laughter: [] [] [] [] [] [] J-Soul: 176 --- Neutral/Forward X: Gomu Gomu no Cannon Damage: 41 (62) Hits: 26 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Medium Type: Power Luffy begins- Wait, is that an Afro? It is. Welcome to Afro Luffy, one of the better things about One Piece. Anyway, Luffy does a very powerful version of Gatling, rushing ahead while punching furiously. Keep tapping X to raise the number of hits. Upward X: Gomu Gomu no Flail Damage: 56 (74) Hits: 1 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy slacks his arm and whirls it above his head before tossing it at the unlucky target.This move is powerful, but it's slow and easily avoided. A shame it's not as good as Peony, or I would use 6 Koma more than 5 Koma. Keep holding X to charge the power. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3. Gear Second [2ndF] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ============================================================================== A) Description [2Des] ============================================================================== By pumping air into his legs, Luffy is able to temporarily dope himself. This pushes his body to it's limits and greatly increases his speed and strength. It also produces a steam effect and turns his skin light red. If not for his rubber body, the pressue inside him would rip him to shreds, but even with the power of the Gomu Gomu fruit, it drains Luffy quickly. Luffy's speed greatly increases with this power-up, along with a moveset change and an attack boost. You need to unlock Gear 2 in Shanks' Evolution chart. Shanks can be obtained by clearing J-World's Plant J Mission 4 in less than 15 seconds. --- Support Boost: Usopp, Robin, Cobra(Cobra) Passive Traits: Same as Normal Luffy ============================================================================== B) Basic Moves [2Set] ============================================================================== Luffy in Gear 2 uses JET attacks, which are superfast versions of his normal moves. Neutral B: Punch Damage: 9 (14) Hits: 1 Knockback: Minimal Knockdown: No Range: Minimal Lag: Minimal Same punch as before, maybe a bit faster. It is stronger, to match Luffy's newfound power. --- Forward B: Gomu Gomu no JET Pistol Damage: 10 (15) Hits: 1 Knockback: Minimal Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Minimal Luffy punches forward at great speed. This move is roughly the same as Rifle, except it comes out faster. --- Upward B: Gomu Gomu no JET Stamp Damage: 10 (15) Hits: 1 Knockback: Small Knockdown: No Range: Great Lag: Minimal Luffy kicks upwards, the speed of Gear 2 increasing the quickness of the attack. --- Downward B: Gomu Gomu no Ballon Damage: 8 (12) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Minimal Lag: Medium The same move as regular Luffy, with a bit less lag. --- Aerial B: Gomu Gomu no JET Spear Damage: 10 (15) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Minimal Luffy stretches both his legs down, quickly driving his feet into the opponent. --- Neutral Y: Gomu Gomu no JET Gatling Damage: 20 (30) Hits: 7 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Medium Although one of Luffy's finishers while in the manga, this move makes it as a standard attack. Repeatedly fires bursts of punches at the enemy. Keep pressing Y to increase the number of hits. --- Forward Y: Gomu Gomu no JET Bazooka Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 1 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Medium The golden move of Luffy's regular attack remains on top, even a little better due to the speed increase. Use generously to make room or to finish off a combo. --- Upward: Y: Gomu Gomu no JET Shotgun Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 11 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Great Luffy appears to punch multiple times in an instant. Keep pressing Y to increase the number of hits and damage. --- Downward Y: Gomu Gomu no Axe Damage: 16 (24) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: No Range: Small Lag: Great Same move as normal Luffy. --- Aerial Y: Missile Headbutt Damage: 18 (27) Hits: 1 Knockback: Small Knockdown: No Range: Medium Lag: Small Luffy dives down at the enemy, a trail of energy thrusting him forward. --- Taunt: Air Pump Effect: Luffy pumps air through his legs, increasing the power Forward+Y and Down+Y moves from 16 damage to 20 damage. It also makes Forward+Y a guard breaking attack. ============================================================================== C) 7 Koma [7Kom] ============================================================================== Note: Luffy's specials in 7 Koma are actually moves he uses while not using Gear 2. Power: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] J-Soul: 192 --- Neutral/Forward X: Gomu Gomu no Storm (Horizontal) Damage: 62 (93) Hits: 24 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Great Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy inflates himself, then launches towards the enemy, unleashing a barrage of blows over a long distance. This is an excellent move, especially if you can nail the enemy at the beginning, then drag them across the screen. Be careful using this near the edge, as you can go too far and fall off. Keep tapping X to increase the number of hits. --- Upward X: Gomu Gomu no Volcano Damage: 63 (93) Hits: 2 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy kicks straight up, with enough force to obliterate stone ceilings. This move only works if the enemyis directly about you, but if it connects with someone, it will shower rocks down in a wide area where it hit. A good anti-air, if a bit hard to use. ============================================================================== D) 8 Koma [8Kom] ============================================================================== Note: Luffy's specials in 8 Koma are all moves used in the next level of his "evolution, Gear 3. In this state, Luffy blows compressed air into his bones, increasing the size and power of a part of his body. As an amusing side-effect,after using Gear 3, Luffy will revert to a small version of himself for a duration equal to the time he used it. All moves used with Gear 3 will have Gigant in their names. --- Power: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] J-Soul: 208 --- Neutral/Forward X: Gomu Gomu no Gigant Gatling Damage: 64 (96) Hits: 28 Knockback: Great Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy increases the mass of his arms and hammers the unlucky things in front of him with his oversized fists. He'll move forward slowly while he attacks, so he's vulnerable to attacks frombehind. Keep tapping X to increase the number of hits. --- Upward X: Gomu Gomu no Gigant Axe Damage: 50 (75) Hits: 2 Knockback: Small Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Great Type: Power Luffy kicks straight up with an oversized leg, then brings down the massive limb, driving whateverit catches into the pavement. Unlike Volcano, this attack does more damage when the opponent is near by on your level, as the kick up combos with the kick down. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 4. Support [Supp] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here are Luffy's support Koma, near the bottom of the guide as I don't feel they are more important than the actual Battle Komas. ============================================================================== A) 1 Koma [1Kom] ============================================================================== Help Koma: [] Effect: Reduces punch and kick damage. ============================================================================== B) 2 Koma [2Kom] ============================================================================== Power: [] [] Gomu Gomu no Hanabi Damage: 25 (38) Hits: 1 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Small Luffy jumps into the air and fires a burst of punches and kicks around him. This is a decent support,although there are better, so I wouldn't bother unless jumpers are giving you severe problems and this is all you have. ============================================================================== C) 3 Koma [3Kom] ============================================================================== Power: [] [] [] Gomu Gomu no Storm Damage: 36 (54) Hits: 12 Knockback: Medium Knockdown: Yes Range: Medium Lag: Medium Luffy uses Storm on any enemies above him. Another Anti-Air, this one is better than Hanabi, even though it only hits enemies above you. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 5. Combos [Muda] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here's some of Luffy's basic combos, for reference. Since Gear 2 basically has sped up versions of normal Luffy's attacks, I'm not going to differentiate between the two. Luffy's combos are basic and few, but they get the job done. --- Ring Out Combo 1: B, Forward B, Forward Y This is your bread and butter combo. Use it as much as you need to, it'll usually get the job done. --- Ring Out Combo 2: B, Up B, Forward Y This is a good variation, mixing in some anti-air with Stamp before knocking down whatever is on the ground with Bazooka. --- Anti-Air Combo 1: B, Up B, Up Y Stamp, followed by Shotgun. This can leave you open if you get caught using Shotgun though, so be on the lookout. I'm using this more and more as I try and work it into my routine. --- Special Combo 1: B, Forward B, Forward/Neutral X This formula will pretty much all of Luffy's forward specials, so if you have the gauge to spare, go ahead and unleash the fury. --- Special Combo 2: Up B, Up Y, Golden Peony/Storm (Horizontal) Both killer combos in their own right, but you need to land all hits of the Shotgun in order for the target to go into the air. --- Trunks Ring-Out 1: B, Forward B, 3 Koma Trunks, Forward Y Using Trunks to add to the combo, you increase damage. Also, if you can time the Bazooka and hit at the same time as the blast at the end of Trunks' combo, you'll double the knockback. --- Trunks Ring-Out 2: B, Forward B, 2 Koma Trunks, Storm (Horizontal) This is an insane combo, if you can time it all right. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 6. Koma Setups (Koma) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'm not that great at constructing decks, but I have a few tips. -Luffy, outside of one of his 6 Komas, is a Power Character. This means he's weak against Laughter Characters. The solution? Bring along a Knowledge Character to tag with. I like using Sasuke, Killua, Kakashi, Kurama, but I suggest you find one you like and go from there. If you use Robin with a Gear 2 Luffy, they'll both boost each other, so keep that in mind. -Use support koma that complements your battle strategy. If I had to recommend a few, 3 Koma Trunks and 3 Koma Sena (Spikey Haired Guy from Eyeshield 21. First character with the Football helmet symbol.) do well. Sena especially, as the stopped movement ensures Luffy's usual range advantage and will piss off anyone hit by it, as they are extremely prone to ring outs, which also happens to be one of Luffy's strengths. Trunks provides absurd combo potential, plus he's fast and can do decent damage on his own. There are tons of ways you can make a deck and I'd rather not list them all. Go ahead and research what what works for you, and don't be afraid to experiment. As this is a Luffy FAQ, I assume you will be using him as a battle character rather than support. I suggest 7 Koma, who's Neutral X has great horizontal and decent spread, allowing you to catch multiple people in the attack easily. My current setup is as follows. 1: Gear 2 Luffy - 7 Koma 2: Kurama - 4 Koma 3: Sena - 3 Koma 4: Trunks - 3 Koma 5: Hiei - 1 Koma 6: Kuwabara - 1 Koma 7: Robin - 1 Koma 1 1 1 3 3 1 1 1 5 3 7 1 6 2 2 4 4 4 2 2 SP is the way to go with this setup. Let Luffy pound away with Storm Combos, then switch in Kurama to recover SP and poke away at people until you have a full bar, then go back to Luffy and let carnage reign. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 6. Koma Setups [Koma] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Rules for mailing: Please only ask questions or give suggestions that pertain to the game and more specifically, playing as Luffy. I'm not great at online yet, so practice and learn your own stuff, it's always better than copying everyone else. --- Q: Where can I get the ROM or download the One Piece Manga/Anime?
