This is my first attempt at a FAQ so it may not exactly be the best, but I think it can provide the information you're looking for. And please, if you see anything wrong, or have advice to give, don't hesitate to contact me; I'll work it into this FAQ and give you credit. II. Gotenks' history -------------------- Gotenks is a character from the popular anime/manga, Dragon Ball Z. He is the half-Saiyan children Goten and Trunks, made one by the Fusion Dance. Gotenks first appeared when Majin Buu threatened the Earth. After two failed attempts at fusion, Goten and Trunks finally succeeded in fusing perfectly (four Koma Gotenks). Feeling overconfident with his new power, Gotenks rushed off to fight Buu, only to return a short time later after getting his ass handed to him. After a suggestion from Piccolo, Goten and Trunks re-fused as Super Saiyans, giving birth to Super Saiyan Gotenks (five Koma Gotenks). III. Controls ------------- A = Jump B = Weak Attack Y = Strong Attack X = Special Attack A Up + X = Special Attack B Down = Guard A, A = Double Jump Down + A = Get off platform, or fast-fall if you're in the air <- <- or -> -> = Dash <- + B/Y or -> + B/Y = Side Attack Down + B = Forced Change (Makes your opponent change characters) Down + Y = Guard Break Down + X = Push Attack Select = Ultimate Action L/R = Character Hot Keys IV. I'm sorry to say this, but you can't fight as him just yet. Like almost every Koma in the game, you have to evolve him. 2 Koma support: 20 red, 30 yellow, and 5 white 3 Koma support: 100 red, 100 yellow, and 10 white 4 Koma battle: 100 red, 100 yellow, and 20 white 5 Koma battle (Laughter): 200 red, 200 yellow, and 20 white 5 Koma battle (Power): 300 Red, 300 yellow, and 40 blue Total: 720 red, 730 yellow, 55 white, and 40 blue. Help Koma: Increase SP Gauge when using multiple Special Attacks in a short time. Support: (2 Koma) Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks appears and fires a beam of energy from his mouth. Pretty much identical to his five Koma X special. Damage: 32 to Knowledge/Laughter 48 to Power (3 Koma) An overall great support, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks jumps and fires eight blasts of energy diagonally down. This can be used in the air. 32 to Knowledge/Laughter 48 to Power VI. General strategy --------------------- While Gotenks is fun to use, he's not exactly the best character around. Only his four Koma can combo into a special without a counterhit, so there won't be any long, flashy combos. If you want long and flashy, try Kenshin or Sasuke. However, his basic combos are pretty strong. One good thing about Gotenks is that he has multiple natures, meaning he can choose which nature is best for the battle. Since a lot of people use Power characters, it helps to use his five Koma Laughter nature, since his attacks will deal more damage to them. Although this may seem strange for a character like Gotenks, it's best not to press your attack. He can't link the basic B, forward+B, Y, forward+Y combo, which is a slight disadvantage in a game like this. Since he doesn't have long combos, you can only get off a few hits before your opponent retaliates. And if your opponent blocks, then that's even worse, since you won't be able to build up SP too much, considering that his combos are short. However, if you're playing a four-player game, Gotenks can be very fun to use. Just run and hide and send your little Kamikaze Ghosts at people. Some people may consider this cheap, but I consider it funny ^_^ VII. Gotenks' move set ------------------- *Please note that the damage is using the Laughter Gotenks. If you're using the Power Gotenks, just switch the higher damage to Knowledge characters and the lower damage to Power and Laughter characters. *Gotenks gets a boost from Goku, Vegeta, Vegetto, and Bobobo.* B: A standard jab. Not particularly fast or strong, but a useful combo starter. Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Forward+B: Gotenks flies headfirst into the opponent. He doesn't travel too far, but it has pretty good priority. Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Y: A flurry of quick punches; you can tap Y to do more hits. Damage: 9 to Knowledge/Laughter 13 to Power ---------- Forward+Y: Galactic Donuts. Gotenks makes a golden ring over his head and throws it forward. If it hits the opponent, it temporarily stuns them for about one second. Unfortunately, you can't repeatedly hit them with this for an infinite combo... Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Down+B: Gotenks' Forced Change. He winds up and delivers a left punch that hits three times and changes their current battle character. Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Down+Y: Gotenks' Guard Break. He takes a deep breath and yells something in scratchy Hiragana letters. Damage: 20 to Knowledge/Laughter 30 to Power ---------- Up+B: Gotenks jumps diagonally up/forward and delivers a kick at the peak of his jump. Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Up+Y: Gotenks does a back flip and launches himself diagonally up/forward in the same animation as his Forward+B attack. Damage: 20 to Knowledge/Laughter 30 to Power ---------- Aerial+B: Gotenks uses his fist to knock the opponent back to the ground. It’s a great spike in terms of speed, but it has pretty bad range. It will also knock standing opponents through platforms that you can drop through. Damage: 10 to Knowledge/Laughter 15 to Power ---------- Aerial+Y: Basically an aerial version of his Forward+B attack, except you can control its path by holding a direction on the D-Pad. This can also be used as a third jump for recovery if your double jump is used. Speaking of recovery, you can use this move to surprise an opponent who’s waiting to EG you while you’re hanging on the ledge. Let go, and immediately use this move upwards to hit your opponent. That should knock them down and give you just enough time to climb back on the stage. Damage: 18 to Knowledge/Laughter 27 to Power ---------- Select: Gotenks' Ultimate Action. He powers up in the traditional DBZ style, slowly gaining SP while you hold Select. ---------- ---------- Specials 4 Koma Gotenks: X: Galactic Donuts Gotenks goes Super Saiyan and fires five rings forward. If they all hit, the opponent is temporarily immobile in a little golden ball. A good thing about this is that the ball remains off the ground, which stops them from combo breaking with most supports. Damage: 30 to Knowledge/Laughter 45 to Power ---------- Up+X: Super Hitsusawazafurukosu What a name... Gotenks does an eleven-hit combo, yelling stuff along the way. It starts up pretty quickly, and is stronger than his Galactic Donuts. However, there’s no way to cancel the move one you start it, so if you miss, you’ll be wide open for a beating. Damage: 35 to Knowledge/Laughter 52 to Power ---------- 5 Koma Gotenks: X: Saiko No Kogeki (AKA Victory Cannon) Gotenks turns Super Saiyan 3, opens his mouth and lets out a blast of energy. Pretty much a standard beam special, this is my X-move to use in most matches because of its fast start and good knock back. Damage: 36 to Knowledge/Laughter 54 to Power ---------- Up+X: Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack I love this move. Gotenks will turn Super Saiyan 3 and yell "Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack!!!" (In Japanese, of course), and spit out a little ghost that looks just like him. He will then yell something else in Japanese and point forward, sending his crazy little clone away. You can hold X to have Gotenks spit out up to three more ghosts. Each ghost will stay by each other and search out an opponent. When they come into contact with an opponent, the ghosts will blow themselves up. Due to the long start up time, it's nothing short of insane to use this attack at close range. Just a little something to note: watch how many times Gotenks' cheeks expand if you hold X to make more ghosts. If you release X... ...immediately - 1 ghost will come out ...after his cheeks expand once - 2 ghosts will come out ...after his cheeks expand 2-5 times - 3 ghosts will come out Or, if you don't let go of X, Gotenks will automatically release 4 ghosts when he's done charging. Damage: 12-48 to Knowledge/Laughter 18-72 to Power VIII. Legal stuff ---------- This may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
