This guide provides you with a basic beginning to end walkthrough, along with an overview of the game basics and controls. After about a decade away from our screens, James Pond - Robocod is back for the current generation of consoles. First released on the Amiga, SNES and Genesis, the game featured simplistic yet addictive platforming action making him a cult icon in his day. Around 2004 Play It! decided to release the game for the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation One, complete with totally remixed levels yet sporting the same sounds and graphics. Now the game comes to the Nintendo DS with a few new features yet the same addictive gameplay. I hope that you enjoy this game, and using this FAQ! - Reyn =============================================================================== --------------------- TABLE OF CONTENTS --------------------- =============================================================================== 1. GAME OVERVIEW -------------------- =============================================================================== This section provides you with an overview to playing the game, with the controls, game basics and items. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2.01. Story =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Not much of a story in the game, but this is taken from the game's manual - -- Briefing: Top Secret To: James Pond Codename: Robocod Datum: 23.12.05 Reference: Mr. Maybe Initial Situation: - Dr. Maybe has taken over North Pole central toy factory - S. Claus' elves fitted with explosives - Must be defused within 48 hours Mission Objectives: Infiltrate factory and renter S. Claus' elves inactive. GOOD LUCK! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2.02. Basics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ----------- Game Screen ----------- This is the standard game screen when playing the game - note that you can change several aspects of this, which are noted below. +-------------------------------+ | 2 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1 | +-------------------------------+ | | | | | | | | | 3 | | | | | | | | | | | +-------------------------------+ 1 - Life Meter 2 - Score 3 - Map / Stats Screen * The Map / Stats screens can be changed by pressing the L button. * You can switch the screens around by pressing Select. ------ Saving ------ Up on starting a new game you have to enter your name, creating a new save game. Whenever you complete a level or boss you have the chance to save the game - keeping record of your progress and current health status. ------------ Workshop Hub ------------ The game takes place at Santa's Workshop, which acts as the games hub. To progress through the game you must go around from level to level; completing the first unlocks the next, and so on. The main section is stairs leading up in a linear fashion, with the last few levels of the game located to the bottom right of the area. Every few levels is a boss battle. You can also grab collectables that are dotted all around the hub, many of which only last as you go from one level to the next. * Remember that after every stair climb in the hub, on the outer edge will be a star for you to add more life. You can only get this on the first time to the next level, so don't forget! --------------- Level Structure --------------- In each level you have to rescue all the elves - the number can be found on the stats screen. These are red dots on the map. Once you have found all of the elves the Exit Barber Pole is activated allowing you to progress - this is a green dot on the map. Each land has several areas you must finish before it's complete, where you return to the hub and progress. --- Map --- The map is extremely handy in this game, so you can track the location of the elves and the layout of the level around you. The white dot is you (you!), the red dots are the elves and the green dot is the exit barber pole, which flashes when it's active. Sadly you can't see enemies, but you can see spikes which is pretty damn handy. I would advise keeping this one most of the time, flicking to the stats when you need to. You can toggle between screens using the L button. ------------ Stats Screen ------------ The stats screen shows five pieces of information, which from top to bottom are Lives, Battery Energy, Bonus Presents, Elves and Bonus Bells. The lives and energy can be found on the normal playing screen, the presents are the number of items or collectables that remain in that level, the elves show how many remain and the bells show the amount required to activate the bonus level. I would advise keeping the map on and toggling to this screen only when you need to. You can toggle between screens using the L button. ------ Health ------ On the main screen health is represented by Robocod in the bottom left corner - his fingers show the amount of lives remaining, while the green dots show batteries remaining - once these are all depleted you lose a life and have to start from the beginning of the level or from the checkpoint. If you lose all your lives then you get Game Over. You can also check your health status on the Stats screen. To gain health, collecting stars adds batteries to your total (you can only hold five at any one time) and Golden Ankhs give you lives. ------- Enemies ------- Most enemies can be destroyed by jumping on their heads, Mario style. Some are defeated in one bounce, others take several. I would advise that you avoid most enemies in the game, only destroying those that hinder your progress. Note that if you stretch and say and card-bird flies in to your side, you won't get injured but resume back to normal. You will get injured if an enemy runs into your base however. ---------- Stretching ---------- Pressing and holding B will stretch Robocod up, allowing you to see the area above you. If you hit spikes or an enemy touches you, you resume back to normal shape. If you touch a ceiling you latch on to it, allowing you to shimmy left and right using the D-Pad; pressing A drops you off. This is handy for collecting collectables and is essential for progressing some areas of the game, such as around spikes. An example is below - ----VVVV----------VVVV---- ---------*-^^^^^---------- You are in a tunnel and you cannot jump over a spike pit, so you have to latch on to the above ceiling (where the * is located) shimmy right, then drop down before the next spikes above. There are several cases of this throughout the game. -------- Vehicles -------- There are three vehicles in the game that you can use - a Car, Aeroplane and Bathtub. These are usually found in large, bright blue and orange boxes. The car uses pretty much the standard controls, while the aeroplane and tub can fly. You can quickly gain height using jump and then guide your way around using the D-Pad. You can eject all vehicles using the B button. Also note that enemies are easily taken care of using vehicles but if you get attacked from above you are ejected and your ride escapes, which you can use again if you can find it. ----------- Bonus Stage ----------- If you collect all three of the golden bells within a level, upon exiting via the Barber Pole you enter a Bonus Stage. Here you have to grab as many of the collectables as you can before the time expires - the counter for which is located in the top left corner of the screen. You can extend the amount of time by collecting watches and clocks in previous level. You finish the level when the time expires or you touch an exit pole. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2.03. Controls =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ----------------- Standard Controls ----------------- D-Pad - Move Robocod A - Jump B - Stretch Y - N/A X - N/A L - Switch between Map and Stats R - Crouch and Look Around SELECT - Switch Screens START - Pause Game * Press Down to crouch. * When holding R, use the D-Pad to look around your surroundings. * You can hold down A after jumping on an enemy to bounce off and gain more height. --------------------- Touch Screen Controls --------------------- Move - Touch in desired direction Jump - Tap somewhere above, or to the upper left / right of Robocod Crouch - Tap and hold below Robocod Stretch - Tap and hold Robocod's head * Note - The touch screen controls only work when you have the action on the bottom screen. Worth trying out, but I would never use it for actually playing the game, it's way too difficult and fiddly to use. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2.04. Items =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= There are two types of item in the game - Items and Collectables. Items serve a purpose or give you an ability, whereas Collectables just add points to your score. There are dozens of different collectables in the game with differing points, however I won't go through them, so where are the items. Power Stars - These add a battery to your health total. There are several different colours to collect but they all serve the same purpose. Golden Ankhs - These add a life to your health. Armour - This makes you invincible for a certain amount of time, to both enemies and spikes. It lasts about 60 seconds and will start to flash when it wears off. Wings - These allow you to fly - pressing A will flutter your wings allowing you to go in to the air. They will disappear after a short amount of time. Umbrellas - After collecting one of these, the next time you fall your descent will be slowed down. You can glide using the d-pad left and right so you can land on ledges and so on. Golden Bells - Collecting all three of these within a level means you'll reach the bonus stage upon completion. See the above section for more details. Watches and Clocks - These extend your time for the bonus stages the next time you enter one. Poison Bottles - These take away a battery from your health; Avoid! Computers - These turn your vision black and white. =============================================================================== ------------------ 3. WALKTHROUGH ------------------ =============================================================================== Create a new game, enter your name and you'll start at the Workshop hub. Collect some of the items around you and go right to the first door, taking you to Sports Land. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.01. Sports Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 2 Go right and slide down the hill to the pit below. Collect the items on the platform above, go right up the hill and over the spikes via the above platform. Drop down here and as you should have an umbrella, glide left into the alcove to collect a bunch of bells and stars. Drop down again to collect a bunch of other items, then go left and up to the first elf (1). Go right up and over to the left, drop down for the second elf (2) and jump up the football platforms to the Barber Pole Exit. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 2 Drop down the left side to the ground far below, where the two elves will be located on the platforms above (check the map to see their location) (1,2). Go right and the path will split in to two; continue right to an area with a few bells and items, and as this is a dead end head back to the split and now take the path up. At the end is a paddle platform so use it as a means up- ward (which out for the card-bird) and carry on to the exit pole. Watch out for the Blue Meanie just before it however! ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 4 Scale the boxing gloves on the left wall to find a bell at the top. Drop down and go right to reach a weight pole - watch out for the Blue Meanies here and go across the top of this and up to the above ledge to find the first elf (1). Drop down to the ground below, dodge the Blue Meanie and make your way up the weight platforms by stretching, collecting some of the items as you go. Latch on to the ceiling and drop down right for the next few elves (2,3). Drop down, avoid the meanie, up and right then drop down and slide down the hill (somewhat automatic) to find the final elf (4). You can get two stars if you want by going to the area to the left; if you do so, remember to wait until the card-birds move right and to avoid the Evil Car. You can also get some easy bells, by stretching just to the right of the above spikes and climbing the ceiling to the hidden left area. When you are done collecting stuff, head up the hill right and use the football platforms to reach the exit pole. Again there are collectables here if you want to grab them. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 6 Go right and pop the box (jump underneath it, Mario style) to release a car! Jump in to it and head right, hitting the Evil Car as you go. Hit the first ! box here too for a star (the second contains poison) and up the right hill, where the first elf is located at the top (1). To get the next one, go down the left hill and jump to the left, and make your way left, up and right over the platforms to reach the elf on the platform just by where you found the first one (2). Drop down and go right, where you'll find an elf by some boxes (3) which you MUST NOT pop as they contain enemies, and another one further down (4). Simply continue right number five (5), drop down for the final one (6) and use the end platform to get up to the exit pole. Sports Land is done! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.02. Teddy Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 5 Go right, jump on the Evil Car a few times to destroy him, drop down and head left through the tunnel to get a few nice items. Go back right now and drop down and go left - near the end is a Blue Meanie so watch out for him. Drop down and avoid the Heart Man at the bottom; if you want the above items, stretch up just left of the above ledge to attach on to the ceiling of the area above. Anyway continue right and rescue the first elf on the above platform (1) and continue on the ground right to another set of platforms and another elf on the right ledge (2). Continue right to the very end (the three ! boxes contain items, bar the right one which has poison) and make your way up the top via the ledges. Another elf will be on the second ledge (3). Run left to the spiked area; latch on to the block above the spikes to traverse through here. Head left, up, and all the way right until you drop down the end. All the ! boxes have items, so collect them. Go left, drop down and right to another spiked area so pass it like before. The next elf is to the right (4). Drop down here and tag the continue point on the central platform. When you drop down here, hug the right wall to avoid all the card-birds and poison items that are littered throughout the centre. Jump over the spikes to the left to reach a trampoline; hold A / Jump to gain height to reach the top left, or take the Teddy heads on the wall. Either way when you get to the top dodge or destroy the Evil Cars and drop down hugging the left wall to land on the final Elf (5). Go right to an area of platforms; the Exit Pole is located on the ground to the right, which unless you want to collect the items dotted around here (including a bell and a star) continue to the next area. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 10 Go right and use the Hippo ledges up to the above elf (1). Head your way up to an open area to the right, but continue upward for the next elf (2). Jump on to the above left ledge - there are spikes to the left and an area choc full of collectables if you like to go there, but considering the amount of enemies there I would advise against it. Jump right and scale the pile of Teddies to the two ledges above with two elves on (3, 4). Continue up using the Hippos to reach another two elves at the top (5, 6). However there are Blue Meanies here, so watch your step. Continue left and there will be an elf when you drop down (7) but a Green Snake resides here to act sharpish in your retrieval. Continue down for the next elf in the niche in the ground (8), and to finish, drop down right and walk left for the last two elves and the exit pole (9,10). ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 5 Right, on to the hippo platform and on to the above light ledge for the first elf on the left (1). Jump right and up here; the area beyond the right spikes contains a lot of nice collectables and goodies but is plagued with enemies, so if you want to risk it go ahead. Anyway go right, and on the small bears, stretch up and drop off and land on the Green Snake to the right to kill it and collect the elf (2). Latch on to the ceiling and go left over the spikes, left, down and right to the next elf (3). Down on to the line of bears, run right (don't jump as you'll hit the card-bird), up and around to the below area to another elf (4). Continue right dodging the card-birds until you reach the final elf (5) and the exit pole. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 4 Pop the box to get a ... plane! Climb aboard; jumping leaps you into the air and you can guide yourself around using the D-Pad. The map helps loads during this level so keep an eye on it; head up and stop before the above spikes and go right for the first elf of the level (1). Go up, right and continue right until you reach two black spikes pointing up; go up, right and up following the arrows for another elf (2). Continue more or less up for another elf (3). Simply follow the left arrows for the next elf (4) and left to the exit pole! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.03. Boss - Teddy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This boss is a large teddy bear with spikes below; be will move left and right and drop down trying to crush you. However this boss is fairly easy - run left straight away to avoid his first drop and jump up to the upper most of the ledges on the wall. Now when ever he is on the screen and makes a drop, jump on top of him to injure him and hold A as you do so to bounce back to that ledge. So you jump on, bounce, return to ledge. Do not attack again until he makes another drop. If he moves away off the screen wait until he comes back again, makes another drop, bounce. Rinse and repeat. After about eight or so hits he'll be defeated, meaning you've destroyed the game's first boss! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.04. Doll Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 12 Jump low over the first gap and grab the Bell, then jump high over the next few gaps to avoid the enemies that jump up from them. After this is a circus tent with four ! blocks underneath; ignore these has they only contain 300 point coathangers. Walk right to encounter Jumping Flowers - these are enemies that when approached, jump away from you. There are two here, so just walk toward them and they'll jump away, allowing you to progress. Onward are two elves (1,2) and then another two soon after (3,4), although they are guarded by Royal Soldiers. At the end is a beanstalk; to a climb it, jump to the roof of the circus tent and then use the leaves to get up to a system of clouds. If you continue up the stalk you can drop down right and collect some items such as a Santa Doll and a Bell, otherwise jump left on to the clouds to find two more elves (5,6). Jump left on to the next cloud to find a crawling enemy (which can be easy disposed of with several head bounces, or can be ignored if you wish) guarding two elves (7,8). Jump the next gap to find another two elves (9, 10). Continue left to go past a castle and some enemies and reach a gap - as you can see on the map there is a cloud lying below this gap, hosting the final two elves. Drop down and collect them (11, 12) then use the cannon in the centre to propel yourself back above. The Exit Pole can be found to the left. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 4 Jump on to the platform for the first elf (1) while avoiding the projectiles that the flying elephant on the right is throwing at you. Follow the arrows and dart right, avoiding the Heart Shirt enemies that come your way to find another elf on a platform (2). Again keep going right avoiding another Floating Elephant to find the third elf on a platform (3). Go right a little more to find the last elf (4), however now jump left to land on top of the tent and make your way up and right to some clouds. Keep going right over the gaps and avoiding the enemies until they stop, with a line of collectables going down; take these down and then progress right to finish the level. ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 4 Jump on to the hat platform and jump up the right ledge to get the first elf (1). Drop down the gap and go right for the second (2). Get back up above by stretching to the above tunnel and go right; watch out for the Blue Meanie here and if you drop down the end and go left through the pipe system you can locate a bunch of collectables and an easy two Bells and a Golden Arhk (ie. an extra life). Progress back to where the Blue Meanie was and use the leaves up to find the next elf (3). You can easily finish the level if you go far left over the gap to find the last elf (4), stretch to the above ceiling and drop down on the right for the Exit Pole. However if you like, you can explore the right area for several Stars (giving you batteries) - the upper right area has two Stars guarded by a simply flying enemy, while the lower right beanstalk area is guarded by a Flying Elephant, which if you land on and keep bouncing on can be easily disposed of. Again there are two Stars at the bottom here. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 5 The first elf is visibly just above your head (1). To the left are a few collectables but you'll get battered by enemies doing so, so ignore going in that direction and proceed right, over the beanstalk and up the leaves to an area with clown face platforms above you. Keep climbing the leaves to the right and drop down on the left to find an elf on a ledge (2) - the lower area has some collectables and stars but has a Bus there, which is an absolute nightmare to deal with in such an enclosed area, so I would advise you ignore it. Go left and drop down to find another elf (3). Make your way back up, right, up the leaves, and left across the clouds to a ledge with the next elf (4). You can get a coin and Bell here by stretching on the far left of this ledge to get the said items above. Anyway go left through the beanstalk via the cloud, then climb up and right to the brightly coloured area. Climb up the leaves, and to the left area - the last elf is underneath the central platform (5) and the exit pole is above it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.05. Board Games and Cards Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 7 Drop down left and on to the platform at the end to locate the first elf (1). Take the dice platforms up to find another elf on the upper right ledge - however it's usually safe guarded by a Blue Meanie, so make sure he isn't there when you go and collect it (2). You can get Invincible Armour by going past the card pyramid, up the dice to the enclosed area above, where its located in the top left corner. Go back down to the card pyramid, jump left to the ledge, up the line of guards, left, across the pit of spikes via the dice, and left across the card to the pit below the ! block. You can get a Bell and Golden Arhk in the upper left corner here, if you can avoid the enemies successfully. Otherwise from the pit, go right and drop down where the next elf is (3) but like last time there is a Blue Meanie here so stay on your guard. Go left, drop down to find the next elves one after another (4, 5, 6) and to finish take to the blue dice platforms up for the final elf (7) and Exit Pole. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 7 Go up and on the right you'll find a box containing... a plane! Yes! Climb in and fly up and left to find the first elf on the ledge (1) and the next two to the left - one on top and the other below the line of cards (2, 3). Fly left along the bottom, up, right, and into the ditch for another elf (4), up to the crossroads - go up and left for the next elf (5) but watch out for the Bullet Bills as you go (they can hit your sides or underneath without you getting thrown out the plane) then go back to the crossroads and go left. Avoid the Bullet Bills, and head up, and navigate left, down, left, down where the next elf is just to the right (6), right across the gap and down into this enclosed area where the final elf is resting in the corner (7). To finish, head back out this enclosed section and go down, left (watch out for the Bullets from the left wall), down, right and stay along the ground to the Exit Pole. ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 5 Just run left to bump in to the elf (1) and to reach a dice area. Navigate your way down from left to right avoiding the Card-Birds (if you get trapped by one, run to the end and jump on him) until you get to the bottom, where you will find another elf at the bottom (2). Run right down the hill, up the column of platforms where you'll find the next elf oh the central platform (3). You can find an extra life here by jumping hard left back on to the upper column platform, taking out the Card-Bird, and stretching to the above hidden area. Anyway head back to the platform that you found the third elf one and go right, drop down to the area of blue dice, navigate your way to the very bottom for the forth elf (4). Go right, jump on to the black chess pieces then up the lines of dice. After reaching the top, go left to find the final elf (5) and Exit Pole. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 9 Stretch and latch on to the ceiling and go right over the spikes, then drop down where the umbrella is. Land on the ground, jump over the poison bottle and go to the far right, where you'll find the first two elves on the upper ledge (1,2). Take the moving wooden platform right, then down, left and then drop down to the area below. Go left, avoiding the walking Heart enemies and the lone spike in the centre of the floor to find the next two of the level's elves (3,4). Stretch up through the cards above and drop down left. Take out the Heart enemy here and collect the star to the above right. Now walk left, avoiding the Blue Meanie and various Heart Walkies to find an elf by the bunch of dice (5). Take the dice up and activate the Midway point as you go, and keep jumping up the line of dice (don't stretch as the ceiling is coated in spikes) until you reach a right arrow with dice going across. There you'll find the next elf (6). Drop down right and immediately JUMP to avoid the Blue Meanie. Take the blue dice upward to the top to find the seventh elf (7), left then up and right (avoiding the various enemies), taking the die platform up again to the next elf (8). Now go up and right, through the section of cards and collect some of the collectables as you go, where you'll locate the final elf at the end (9). To finish, head right across the card platforms to the large area, and make your way up to find the Exit Pole. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.06. Boss - Card Queen =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Like the last boss, you are in an area with platforms to the sides, and the boss floats around and drops objects below. Straight away run to one of the sides and make your way to the top, and jump on to the Queen's head. Hold down A so you bounce, and make your way to one of the sides. Straight as you land, jump again, bounce, return and repeat. Bouncing allows the Queen time to recover allowing you to bounce on her again, and as she can go on to the side platforms make sure you jump straight away to avoid touching her. You might get touched now and again, but as long as you keep jumping on her and bouncing without halting then she'll be done in no time. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.07. Bath Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 4 Run right down the hill to grab the first elf in the middle of the ditch (1). Continue up the hill and jump over the first three gaps, then down the last one and proceed right, down and around where the next elf will be down a ditch (2). Drop down and run down the hill stopping short to avoid the Heart Walker, then make your way up the bubble platforms, rescuing the elves as you go (3,4) and then touching the Exit Pole at the top to finish. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 6 Pop the box to receive... a bathtub! Climb aboard. This controls exactly the same as the plane. Go left between the yellow submarines, collecting the first elf of the level (1) then up the column. The next two elves are at the top on the left ledge (2, 3) then drift straight left to the pirate ships. Go up and right where an elf is in the middle of the ship's deck (4), right, up and left between the two submarines to the next elf (5). Continue left, up, where the final elf is on the left submarine (6) and if you carry on left you'll reach the Exit Pole. ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 10 Jump up and left, over the gap and down the short slide to find three elves in a row (1,2,3). Drop down, and jump on to the lower line of the soap platforms, through the gap to the next elf (4). Jump up and left, past the enemies (the upper route has Flying Submarines while the lower has Evil Robocods - the upper is easier) and drop down at the end. Go right and drop down to find two elves on opposite platforms (5,6), left, rescue the elf on the central platform (7) while watching out for the Flying Submarine. Jump left to the next area and on to the upper ledge for more elfage (8), run down the hill and in this next area the ninth elf is on the central platform surrounded by the soap platforms (9). Head out of here via the upper left, then go left across the platforms to the final elf (10) and the Exit Pole in the bottom left corner. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 15 Go right for elf numero uno (1) and drop down where you'll find two more to the left (2,3). Head back up, and drop down the next gap where an elf can be found at the far end (4) - watch out for the Evil Robocods that patrol the floor here, so take the masts to and from the elf. Head back out to the top again and go right - this is quite tricky as Card-Birds and Royal Soldiers need to be taken care of, plus the masts are home to several Poison Bottles. Drop down the next gap, where this area houses two more elves (5,6) and an Evil Robocod. Again head back up to the deck and drop down the end for the last time. Collect the Yellow Star as you go, then right and down. Drop down the first gap here straight to the bottom of this area, where there is an elf to the right (7), another to the upper right (8), head back left past the meanie for another elf on a ledge to the left here (9), drop down for the tenth (10), up and left for number eleven (11) and another two above here (12, 13). Head right and back up and out. Go left, avoiding the over head Card-Birds and the Royal Soldiers until you reach yet another gap below. Drop down to land on a mast - head across this area via the masts left to find the final two elves on the very left - one at the upper left and the other one the lower left (14,15). Head back out again. Proceed left watching out for more Card-Birds and Royal Soldiers and drop down the line of collectables to some barrels at the bottom. Jump over the lone spike and latch on to the ceiling and progress all the way across the obstacles below to the Exit Pole that rests on the far right. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.08. Stationary and Music Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 4 Head right, onto the first pencil platform then up and left. There is an elf to the left of the row of pencils here (1) and another on the right ledge (2) - watch out for the dancing pencil in the latter. Drop down below then go right up the gentle slope, and jump on to the ink bottle and stretch to the very top. Drop down to the right as soon as possible to avoid the Bullet Bills that come from the left, and make your way right to the tube bottles. Follow the line of collectables down, right, up the pencil platforms for another elf (3) and to the very top. Here, wait until a Bullet Bill passes left then jump up and run across the line of pencils. Half way wait until another passes from the next gun and follow it to the end. In this bricked area, again wait until a bullet is fired below then run left and up to the sloped area above. Continue right avoiding the bullets that intrude from the bottom where at the end is a moving platform that'll take you to the final elf (4) and Exit Pole. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 6 Climb the Bony Stereo system on the right (teehee) to the above ledge where you'll find the first two elves (1,2). Go right across the guitars to find the next elf (3). Head up the record platforms and left to a wooden moving platform; however when you are on it, whatever direction you move in it will travel. So stand on the far right end and tap left to head left, then jump up and proceed up the plectrums to grab the forth elf (4). Head up and left and across, avoiding the poison bottles and grabbing the heart collectables to the end, where you drop down collecting two elves (5,6) and landing next to the Exit Pole. Epic! ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 6 Head right and use the horizontal pencil platform to get to the right elf (1). Jump up, left to the end and stretch to the top and latch on to the ceiling. Move right and drop down to the elf below (2) and up and right to the slide - if you hold right you'll zoom through this short section, collecting the third elf as you go (3) and ending up at the wall at the far end. Go left and avoid the ? box (it releases an enemy Tire) and collect the elf that resides next to it (4). Head left down the lower route to the end, drop down and run right to a section of typewriters - then go right, down, and left until you reach a section of pencils where two elves reside (5,6). Climb on top of the horizontal pencil edge and take the pencils up and left toward the Exit Pole. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 0 Head up the right ledges and use the Card-Bird at the top to propel up to collect some invincibility Armour. Drop down to the starting position and use the black ink bottles as a means of getting up the left pencils platforms. Head up and right to the very top of the level, and follow the line of cherry collectables down to the paint brushes below. Head right, down and left down one of the paint brushes and head right through it to the area below. In the centre of this area are several brushes - jump on to here then drop down on to the left, and take out the Dancing Pencil to the right, and with the left one, follow it to the far left and jump up before it comes back right - be quick as this is hard to do. Navigate your way up this paste area while avoiding the Bullet Bills from both sides to find the Exit Pole at the top. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.09. Boss - Fat Lady =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This boss isn't over until the Fat Lady sings! This is the easiest boss yet, mainly because it follows the same tactics as the other bosses and that she doesn't pose much of a threat. The arena is somewhat smaller, but climb on to the moving platform on the right to avoid her jumping. Just simply jump on her head and hold A to bounce off and land back on the platform. Rinse and repeat. If you don't know where she is, wait until the platform is at it's lowest point and you should just see the tip of her head. You can also bounce on her as she is jumping about. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.10. Castle Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 9 Run right and rescue the first elf (1) and walk toward the line of Jumping Flowers to move them out of the way. Avoid the Royal Guard and rescue another elf (2) and start climbing the castle via the window ledges. At the top, head to the left side, up the tower and on to the clouds on the left. Head up and left to find another elf (3), with the Exit Pole just next to here; of course you cannot exit yet. Head right to the adjacent cloud where they'll be two elves and a Royal Soldier (4, 5), continue a few more clouds for another two (6, 7) and down and right for the final two (8, 9). Now head all the way back left across the clouds to the Exit Pole to finish. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 13 This is quite a large level and can get very confusing, so use the map always. The first is just on your right (1). Pop some of the ! blocks here to find a pair of Wings, giving you the power of flight! The next elf is just to the upper right of you (2), then go upper left for another (3) and grab the red star while you are here. Go more or less straight to the right for elf number four (4) and if you head up and left a little there should be a large gap in the wall, where an elf resides in the top left corner of this area (5). Just to the upper left is an Exit Pole and another elf (6). Fly up and right to another blank area of wall and another elf (7), and another up and left (8). Do not fly on top of the castle here, as you have to go right and all the way down the side to reach the bottom area again, which messes up this guide. If you drift right a while, you should encounter a Bell, then shortly after the next elf (9). Drift down now, where there will be an Exit Pole to your below right, and an elf below on the left (10), one to the right below that (11). Drop to the ground and fly up and left for elf (12) and then directly straight up to rescue the final elf (13). There are several Exit Poles to choose from as you know, so head to one know. The nearest is probably at the bottom right of the level. ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 4 Wait until the Blue Meanie and Card-Bird move to the right, then jump on to the window sill here and go up and right, where there will be the first two elves on a set of blue steps (1, 2). Don't jump to the roof, however instead jump right, then on to the upper right blue brick path that is just below the castle roof (jump on here and not the roof) for elf number three (3). Jump right and use the platforms to get up the tower, then on top the area of blue blocks on the right; jump up and head down into the area of blocks. Wait until the Royal Soldier below stops so you can drop down on his head and take him out, then jump up and right to the final elf (4). Drop down left until you reach the ground, watching out for the Royal Soldier here, then head right and head up the castle tower via the window ledge platforms. At the top head right across blue block path, and keep progressing right across the castle tops until you reach the far right of the level, where there is a maze area of blue blocks below you. Drop down in to it, jump over the left gap, stretch over the next gap and drop down to the ground grabbing the line of collectables as you go. Run to the right to find the finishing Exit Pole. --------- Area Four --------- Elves - 13 When the coast is clear on the right side, jump on the platform right then up the blue block steps, and make your way up the castle using the platforms. After a few platforms you should have to go on the right side, then left across the horizontal block stepping stones, up the window ledges, right, and up the blue blocks to reach the top of the castle. Now run right across the bridge. When you reach the other castle, grab one of the above umbrellas and fall down the castle face. All of the thirteen elves are dotted around on this wall, so glide down and collect as many as you can. At the bottom is a cannon, which can propel you back up and also be used as a means to collect a few more elves. Keep going back and forth until you collect them all (use the map when gliding) and when you get all thirteen, finish the level via the Exit Pole on the ground in the centre. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.11. Car Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- Area One -------- Elves - 5 Wait until the tire moves from left to right, then drop down and jump on top of the orange car to the right, then up the above ledge where the first elf is located (1). Head up the next few ledges to the ledge underneath the orange car; wait until the train moves over to the left side, then jump up and rescue the right elf (2). Jump right on to the orange blocks, but watch out for the Crazy Bus that comes in from the right side. Head right over the orange block platforms, where another elf is (3). Jump to the right orange platform, then upper left, up the tower of orange cars and up to the next elf sitting next to the tire pile (4). Start heading up the left side of this pile, where in midair to the left is a pair of wings, allowing you to fly up to the top left corner (watch out for a Card-Bird at the top) where the final elf (5) and Exit Pole lies. -------- Area Two -------- Elves - 6 Pop the blue and orange ? block to get a Car. Enter, then jump on to the right platform, then up and left for an elf (1). There is a room in the right wall with some collectables, so grab them then progress up the platforms where the next elf lies on the uppermost girder before the orange platforms (2). Continue up these as well until you reach the top, being sure to collect yet another two elves on your way (3, 4). At the top the upper left corridor leads to some collectables, otherwise drive right and up the slope, jump off the tip onto the platform above, jumping left and up the slope for the next elf (5). If you jump to the slope above, you can drive down and jump across left to land on top of the boiler in the corner, where two stars float above it. Anyway, head up the said slope and across the jagged terrain watching out for Card-Birds that fly overhead, then jump to the above slope when you reach the more open area, where the next elf lies on the edge (6). Drive left now collecting the odd item until you reach the Exit Pole. ---------- Area Three ---------- Elves - 15 The first two elves are directly above you (1,2) then drop down and make your way right, avoiding the Card-Birds and Walking Hearts - go up and over the platforms to do this. Shortly above some spikes there is an area above, so head up, take out the Card-Bird and rescue the two elves here (3,4). Drop down to the bottom again, stretch and move right over the spikes below. On the other side drop down when there are no Card-Birds moving underneath, then jump up above, and while watching the Blue Meanie and Card-Bird get the two elves here (5, 6). Best way to do this is to jump over the Blue Meanie, run left and get the elves, then jump over him again and run right. Continue right now across the small ledges, and go up at the end. There is a yellow star in the upper right corner, but get it quick to avoid the Card-Bird that monitors round here. Head all the way left now, avoiding a couple of Blue Meanies and the bunch of enemies just after the line of collectables. Stretch to the top section and head right, doing short jumps to get over the spikes on the floor (just quickly tap A), where there'll be a Checkpoint at the end. Drop down to the ground here, and make your way to the third yellow car. Climb on top, then up the above platforms, collecting the coins (mucho pointo!) and grab the left elf (7), go underneath and around to the right side for the right elf (8). Use the map and jump down on to the yellow car on the ground, and head right to where a bar blocks your path along the ground. Here jump
up the platforms to the top, where another two elves are surround a pole
(9,10). Another set of elves are a few platforms down to the right (11,12)
and yet another two rows along at the top (13, 14). To get the final elf,
drop down to the ground and move right, on top of the yellow car and up the
platforms where the elf will be to the upper left (15). Head right across
the platforms now to the Exit Pole in the upper right corner... phew!
---------
Area Four
---------
Elves - 8
This level is an absolute NIGHTMARE. You will get hit by random enemies
at some point so make sure you get here with plenty of batteries, and hopefully
a few lives, in tow. Run left and climb the end yellow car, then make your
way right up the diagonal path up, where two elves sit toward the top (1,2).
There are several Heart Flyers here which will pounce on you out of no where,
so try and watch yourself as best as you can. At the top run right and
climb the orange blocks as fast you can, watching out for enemies such as
Jets that come from the right of the screen. An elf will be halfway up these
blocks (3) and another at the top (4). The next four elves are more or less
in a line up the next few platforms and on top of the yellow cars, so make your
way up them (4-8) with the Exit Pole at the uppermost left car. Phew!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
3.12. Boss - Evil Car
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
It's a shame that the bosses don't have much variation... or is it? This is
the same deal as the other bosses so far. There is a platform over head and
the Evil Car hops around the ground. He will also spit out smaller Evil Cars
now and again, but only two can be on the screen at one time, so I would just
ignore them as they spawn pretty quickly. The best solution I can offer is
to bounce on the boss as soon as possible and land on the upper platform,
which is where you'll remain. When the boss hops out to the side, jump down
and bounce off back up to the platform, and repeat. If you can't see where
the Evil Car is located, press R and look around, then jump down bounce and
return. After about 8 hits he's toast.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
3.13. Candy Land
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This is located at the bottom right of the hub. Before you go however,
at the top of the main workshop are two stars, and above the side castle
turret is a Golden Arhk (ie, an extra life) so grab them and make your way
to this land.
--------
Area One
--------
Elves - 5
Really easy, this. Go left and head up the slopes to the very top, where there
are some umbrellas. Basically the rest of the level is sort of like several
pinball boards. Starting from the far left here, drift down and follow the
lines of dots - the first leads to the right. Follow it and it'll take you to
the first elf, then follow the line to the next and so on... at the bottom
there are elves either side so just land on one side, grab the elf and jump
over to the other. To finish, drop down to the ground and run all the way to
the right where the Exit Pole is located.
--------
Area Two
--------
Elves - 5
Head left and take the moving platforms over the semi spike pit to locate the
first elf (1). Walk right and jump up the all sorts platforms to rescue the
next elf at the top (2). Run down the left slope on to the right sloping
moose hill, and jump on to the second platform on the way down for another
elf (3) - plus to avoid the poison at the bottom of the slope. Head in to the
next area and as the arrows suggest, head up to the above area. Here stretch
up and latch on to the ceiling, and drop down on the right for the next
elf (4). Drop down and walk right to find the last elf on the edge (5) and
then finish by tagging the Exit Pole in the area below.
----------
Area Three
----------
Elves - 7
Head right avoiding the various Card-Birds and Allsorts Men (that IS Burty
from the Bassett's adverts, right?) and drop down the first gap to get some
collectables if you want them (to get out, tap A when you hit the jelly floor
to bounce up and out) - the next gap contains similar goodies too. At the
end drop down and make your way left until you reach the Heart Walkers -
above the second one you can stretch up and grab some collectables including
the handy Invincible Armour, so make sure you do so. Carry on left up the steps
and down and around past the Blue Meanies, plus avoiding the overhead bullet
bills at the far bottom until you reach the midway checkpoint.
Jump over the spike pits and drop down, and go left progressing past each
candle when no enemies hinder your path (there will be Card-Birds overhead and
Allsorts Men between candles). Drop down the end after the white hills area.
Here you have to jump right from platform to platform without falling - if you
do you have to make your way back to the far left, using the blob of jelly to
bounce up and try again. At the end here is another midway checkpoint and
three elves (1-3).
Drop down and make your way left whilst avoiding various Blue Meanies and
Card-Birds, with another three elves in a pit halfway across (4-6). Be sure
to watch out for the above Bullet Bill before you drop down and ensure you land
on a spoon platform, as the floor is littered with enemies. Make your way
right across the platforms - the upper most platforms have collectables like
Stars, Bells and others above them. Make your way across to the far end anyhow
where on the bottom right platform is the final elf (7) and the Exit Pole.
---------
Area Four
---------
Elves - 8
Run right and rescue the first elf on top of the block (1), and again on
the next block just beyond (2). The areas below these blocks just have random
collectables and bells in, which I see as pointless in getting. After the
second block just before you head down the slope stretch and latch on to the
ceiling to access a hidden area on the right with a few collectables in.
Anyway proceed down this slope and three elves will be just ahead (3-5). Drop
down the far end now getting the collectables as you go, and when you
reach the bottom you can stretch just before the large blue / black pole to
get some Invincible Armour up the top.
Head left and make your way up the paths of Bullet Bills (this shouldn't be
a problem if you just grabbed the Armour) then head left at the top, where
an elf will be (6). Go down and run down the brown moose hill for the
next elf (7). Jump up and head left where the final elf is at the end (8) -
watch out for an Allsorts man on the way however. Now touch the Exit Pole
on the left most platform to finish the final level!

3.14. Boss - Evil Snowman
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Before you head through the door, be sure to grab the Golden Arhk above the
right tower of this side area (stretch on top of it) and the two stars on
top of the main workshop. When you are ready, go through the door to the
final boss...
Although it's slightly different from the other bosses in the game, the
formula is essentially the same. The Evil Snowman resides on the upper
platform, pacing back and forth. Now and again his head will start flashing
and will pop off, bouncing around the level. There are also mini Snowmen
at the bottom of the screen. To hurt him you either have to jump on the
Snowman's head when it's detached, or by jumping on the body when the head is
gone. In other words, while the Evil Snowman is whole he cannot be touched
(you'll get injured) but when his head is jumping around the stage you can
jump on either the body or head to injure him.
The best tactic is to get up to the platform (bounce of a Snowman or the head)
and then jump over the Evil Snowman as it paces back and forth. You can just
make it over him - when he is moving right make sure you jump from the right
to land on the left, then over again when he's coming back. When his head
starts flashing wait a moment and his head will pop off. Jump on his body to
injure him - you can get two hits in before the head returns. Rinse and repeat.
It's probably the hardest boss in the game, but even then you know the
formula and it shouldn't take too many attempts to crack this nut.
After eight or so hits the Evil Snowman is defeated and Santa Claus is saved!
Enjoy the ending!

4. CHEATS AND SECRETS
-------------------------
===============================================================================
-------------------
Invincibility Combo
-------------------
On top the hub's first building are several items. Collect the following in
order to gain an Invincibility Combo - Cake, Hammer, Earth, Apple, Tap -
spelling CHEAT. Note that this only lasts for one level, so you'll have to
return and collect the items again for multiple levels.
-----------
Power Combo
-----------
On the far right in the hub (the lower side building) are several items
dotted around on the ledges. Collect the following in order to refill your
power batteries - Penguin, Oil Can, Wine Glass, Earth and Racket - spelling
POWER.
---------------------
Unlimited Lives Combo
---------------------
Around hub's first building on ledges are several items. Collect the following
in order to gain an Unlimited Lives Combo - Lips, Ice Cream, Violin, Earth,
Snowman - spelling LIVES.
---------------------
Screwed Up High Score
---------------------
For some reason the High Score list on the main menu is messed up. When you
make it on there it knocks out one below yours with strange and jumbled up
characters. By the end of the game chances are the table is full of them.
Strange, huh?

5. FAQ'S
------------
===============================================================================
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Q. Why does Robocod move so quickly?
A. Beats me. It takes a while to get used to, so just take it easy when
charging in to the unknown. He was that fast in the originals too, maybe
he was trying to rival Sonic The Hedgehog or something? ;)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Q. Is this a port of the SNES / Genesis / Amiga version?
A. No. Play It Limited decided to release this game for current generation
systems (such as the PlayStation One, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS).
The difference is that the levels are remixed and changed around, but apart
from that and a few sound effects, the visuals and music remain the same.
They sadly removed the scrolling levels, such as the train one (which was
awesome) and the cool stretching sound with a really lame one, but bar
those disappointments I would recommend this to fans of the original.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Q. Which is the best version to get?
A. Although I haven't played the others, from what I hear the DS one is the
best for several reasons. The best reason is a map, which without makes
finding the elves near impossible and has touch screen support (which is
useless) making up the unique DS features. The GBA version is poor in
comparison, which no map, no saving and a slightly smaller playing field
(the DS screen is a tad bigger). The PS1 offers everything bar the map,
but can be played on a TV (which is good or bad depending on how you look
at it - yeah it's on a big screen but it isn't portable).
So for portability reasons and the map, go with the DS version.
