This guide is designed to aid in obtaining and playing through Treasure Maps, while giving information about the maps, monsters, and treasures. ---------------------------- INTRODUCTION: --------------------------- ABOUT THIS GUIDE: The main function of this guide is for POST-STORY!!! SPOILERS LIKELY!!! Now, moving on. This guide covers Treasure Maps, Monsters in the maps, as well as the Bosses. This is not for the weak. The story basically sets you up for this. Consider it a rather large training ground for the battles that you'll find in here, unless you only played for the story, which is fine as well :) PEOPLE WHO WILL FIND IT USEFUL: Completionists Those trying to fill the Bestiary (Shows what lengths you've got to go to) Those looking for Monster/Boss Drops and Drop Rates Those looking for a Challenge Those looking for Legacy Bosses Those looking for Treasure Map info., especially on monsters/bosses Dragon Quest fans in general ;) PEOPLE WHO WON"T FIND IT USEFUL Those at the beginning Those only interested in beating the story Those looking for a WHOLE Bestiary...it's not here Those who don't like me...jealous things ;p It contains information about each individual monster, with bosses having more attention i.e. stats are given. Most of you probably don't deserve to look at this though...seriously. --------------------------- DROPS: I listed drops because many monsters can only be found in these grottoes, which means what they drop may also only be found here. --------------------------- This guide shall be broken into the 5 different grottoes. The Legacy Bosses shall have their own location. Use Ctrl. + F (ex. "1.1" without "") to quickly navigate this guide. Also...no whining. I'm tired of people complaining about the game being "easy." Level up a Legacy Boss and try that. This is easily one of the hardest Dragon Quest games... if not the hardest. Have fun ;) ----------------------------- TABLE OF CONTENTS: 1.1 Credits. These deserve to be on the top. 2.1 Grottoes. 2.1.1 Treasure Maps 2.1.2 Treasure Map X's 3.1 Nature Grotto Monsters 4.1 Ruins Grotto Monsters 5.1 Ice Grotto Monsters 6.1 Water Grotto Monsters 7.1 Volcano Grotto Monsters 8.1 Grotto Bosses 9.1 Grotto Monster/Boss Formula - figures what you'll fight 10.1 Legacy Bosses 11.1 Tips/Strategies - Check for quick exp. training. 12.1 Version History 13.1 Copyright 14.1 Q/A - read before asking anything -------------------------- 1.1 CREDITS: Level 5 for creating one of, if not, the best DS games. Square Enix for creating such an AWESOME game. Brady Games for making an EXCELLENT guide, which everyone should own. Nintendo for the DS and publishing this AWESOME game. Gamefaqs for posting this guide. My family (friends are family). Most important, my Mom. Love ya Mom. Special thanks to XCZeus3469 for finding the origins of Murdaw and Nokturnus. Special thanks to Ruesen for the idea of adding what family bosses are, which people can exploit as a weakness. ----------------------------- 2.1 GROTTOES: There are 5 different kinds of grottoes. Nature and Ruins occur most often, while Ice, Water, and Volcano occur less often. The last 3 do seem to have stronger monsters though. ---------------------------- 2.1.1 TREASURE MAPS: Treasure Maps are used to find these grottoes. The Maps can be found by: 1. Completing Quests 015, 058, or 062. 2. Visiting King Schott in Stornway after beating the Story. 3. Receiving one via Tag Mode in Multiplayer. 4. Clearing grottoes to find more maps. The Maps range from level 1 to 99. Of course, the higher the level the harder the map and the greater the reward. Once you have a map, select it (Items Menu). It will pop up on your top screen. --------------------------------- 2.1.2 TREASURE MAP X'S: A red X marks the spot on the map. List of areas with maps and how many: alphabetical order ("the" is also skipped. ex. "The Bad Cave". Go with "Bad"...not "The") Angels Falls - 5 The Bad Cave - 5 Cringle Coast - 4 Doomingale Forest - 3 Dourbridge - 3 Eastern Coffinwell - 5 Eastern Stornway - 5 Eastern Wormwood - 5 The Gittish Empire - 2 Gleeba - 8 Hermany - 5 The Iluugazar Plains - 5 Khaalag Coast - 3 The Lonely Coast - 6 The Lonely Plains - 3 Mt. I don't know. The grottoes WILL change, but the location on the map does NOT. There are many grottoes, thousands upon thousands it seems. -------------------------------- 3.1 NATURE GROTTO MONSTERS: Ranked K - S with K being the easiest and S the hardest. I'm also going to name the first (or close to first) location you encounter these monsters. It helps determine what you've gotten into and the boss you'll face. Also, the monsters may be stronger than when you first fought them. Good Luck :) P.S. Drops are after the places. They show the chance, name, and which is normal/rare. I'm going to be more in depth with these enemies, since they are bosses after all. The bosses are random. Use the level indicator of your map to narrow down which bosses you are likely to fight. All level's are approximate, so it's possible this info. is slightly off. Take care :) *NOTE* In stronger grottoes, beginning around level 46, any of the 12 bosses could be the ones you face. Though it should exclude Excalipurr, Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, and Greygnarl, but they may be there. So, keep that in mind. I know...some of this is weird. Equinox: An early boss seen in lvl's 1-38. I know...some of this is weird. ------------------------------- 9.1 GROTTO/MONSTER/BOSS FORMULA: This section pertains to a formula on what grottoes/monsters/bosses you should encounter. Also, the monsters begin on B1 and gradually become higher in class. Ex. B1 = C...climb some floors...they become B class monsters. Take your Max lvl., how many times you've revocated, and the highest lvl grotto you've completed. You can use those to estimate what the Treasure Map you receive should be like. The rest of the info. pertains to the grotto the map leads to. These are APPROXIMATE...NOT EXACT. Example 1: Max lvl of characters 30 or below / 0 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 20 or below = Level 1-23 of Map / 3-5 floors / K-I Monsters on B1 Bosses - Equinox, Nemean, or Shogum. (random) Example 2: Max lvl of characters 50 / 0 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 40 = Level 16-59 of Map / 7-11 floors / I-G Monsters on B1 Bosses - Nemean, Shogum, Trauminator, Elusid, Sir Sanguinus, Atlas (random) Example 3: Max lvl of characters 60 / 0 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 50 = Level 31-68 of Map / 9-13 floors / H-F Monsters on B1 Bosses - Trauminator, Elusid, Sir Sanguinus, or Atlas (random) Example 4: Max lvl of characters 80 / 0 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 70 = Level 46-89 of Map / 11-17 floors / G-E Monsters on B1 Bosses - Sir Sanguinus, Atlas, Hammibal, Fowleye (random) Example 5: Max lvl of characters 99 / 0 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 90 = Level 58-99 of Map / 12-17 floors / F-C Monsters on B1 Bosses - Hammibal, Fowleye, Excalipurr, Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, Greygnarl (random) Example 6: Max lvl of characters 99 / 5 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 90 = Level 46-99 of Map / 13-17 floors / D-C Monsters on B1 Bosses - Any of the 12 Bosses. Example 7: Max lvl of characters 99 / 10 times Revocated Highest Level Completed Grotto 90 = Level 55-99 of Map / 15-17 floors / C Monsters on B1 Bosses - Any of the 12 Bosses. This will take ALOT of trial and error. I should find out more later, but for now this should suffice :) -------------------------------- 10.1 LEGACY BOSSES: These are bosses from other Dragon Quest games. Kind of like a nice little bonus...well...it's pretty big to me :) They are in Maps named for themselves. There is only 1 level to these maps, the boss level...nice. The big thing about these bosses is that they begin at level 1... puny I know. However, after you defeat them, you can give them the exp. you gained from defeating them in order to make them stronger. You can raise them to level 99...awesome. Of course, doing so nets you more money, exp., treasures, Legacy Boss Maps, and more accolades. Now, you are not guaranteed a treasure for defeating them, but raising their level increases your chances. So...get to it ;) P.S. These are the final versions from the games. Also... not too sure where some should be placed so... P.S.S. I don't know if their stats begin at level 1 or 99 or anything in between...sorry. DROPS: All Legacy Monsters have a 100% Normal Drop Rate for Mini Medals. In essence, you can farm Mini Medals from these bosses. I'll list their Rare Drops though, which seem to increase as you level them up. Have fun at lvl 99. ------------------------------- 11.1 TIPS/STRATEGIES: 1. Check the formula to find what you'll be facing. 2. EXP. Training: If you need some quick experience, try these places: Quarantomb - Has Metal Slimes. Just sit and wait. Bad Cave - Has Metal Medleys. Wait in one of the last areas of it. Bowhole - Has Liquid Metal Slimes. Go to B3 and wait by the torch. Kind of between the torch and wall. They should pop up. Slime Hill - (Post-story and after you get the Starflight Express back) It is located just NE of Angel Falls. There is also a quest in the cave. Has all the metals I just mentioned. I just run around 1/2-2 full circles around the perimeter of this place. I run into Metal Slimes and Liquid Metal Slimes about the same rate, but Metal Medleys are harder to find. Liquid Metal Slimes are worth more though. Tower of Nod - (Post-story and after you get the Starflight Express back) It is by Coffinwell. Fly around and look for a random tower. It may contain Metal King Slimes. They are VERY rare though. I would say to stick to Slime Hill. Grottoes - These are what Treasure Maps lead to. They hold the best metals, the Metal King Slime and the Platinum King Jewel. Try using the formula from my Grotto Monsters/Bosses FAQ to see what you may run into. Metal King Slimes are easier to beat than Plat. King Jewels, so keep that in mind. But, Liquid Metal Slimes should also work quite well. 3. Save your money at the Stornway Inn...often. 4. If the monsters are primarily found in grottoes, it could be a tough battle. Be prepared. 5. Place weaker characters (Preists, lower lvl, etc.) on the back row for stronger fights. 6. Use buffs/debuffs, especially ones that cover your whole party. Unless, the boss gets rid of them. Then, try raising your tension. 7. Monsters may be easy, but the boss you face could be on a whole different level. Be prepared. 8. LOOK FOR TREASURES, NOT JUST THE NEXT FLOOR. 9. Be prepared for long boss fights, especially in higher level grottoes. Don't always expect to win quickly. 10. Watch for Shogum summoning a King Cureslime (If I remember correctly). It of course heals Shogum. ------------------------------- 12.1 VERSION HISTORY: Version 1 - 7/13/2010 - Began guide with a bottle of Jones Berry Lemonade Soda...I'm sick :) Version 2 - 7/15/2010 - Finished Ice, Water, and Volcano Grotto Monster Lists / Added Drops and Drop Rates for Normal Monsters. Goodness...this took a while. Much thanks to Brady Games! Nearly a complete overhaul over ver. 1. Version 2.1 - 7/18/2010 - Minor revisions with some more formula examples/tips/Q & A. Glad I'm sick now and on Antibiotics. Otherwise I wouldn't have done all this. Ya'll aren't worth it. I'm serious. Version 2.2 - 7/22/2010 - Guide updated with general things and info. on the origins of Murdaw and Nokturnus, thanks to XCZeus3469. Version 2.3 - 7/25/2010 - Fixed formulas after replaying the game. Found that revocating is the way. Had to restart, since I had revocated and was res. many times. The results were skewed by this. But...now it's fixed :) Version 2.4 - 7/31/201 - Added Family type to bosses. This should open up weaknesses. Thanks to Ruesen for the idea. ------------------------------- 13.1 COPYRIGHT This guide is created and owned by Dragovian1. No person/place/thing/etc. may use this guide without approval. You'll get ignored. Q: Does this vocation... A: This isn't about vocations. Figure it out on your own. Q: How do I know what I'll face? A: I posted a formula for a reason. Q: Do you know where the "rom" is? A: Get a job and buy the game you dumb pirate. Q: Where are the exact locations of each Treasure Map? A: This isn't about exact locations of Treasure Maps, though I may include that later. Q: What treasures are there...all you have is drops? A: Treasures are random and will need to be explored more before I could hope to approximately find which treasures you may get. So many things are situational. Check the formula to see what I mean. I may post them later though. Q: This guide is wrong, I *blah blah blah* (Statement) A: Write your own... Q: I don't like this guide, you, etc. (Statement not question) A: Wow...someone has no life... Q: You're a *blankity blank* that should *beeeppp* (Statement) A: You know it's against the law to say such things right? *Calls Police* Q: Can I help? A: Go for it. I'll read your ideas. If you don't get a reply, that means I didn't like it...sorry. ------------------------------- Thank You :)
