Dragon Quest Heroes : Rocket Slime originally: Slime Mori-Mori Dragon Quest II Tank FAQ, with monster and item lists by Michael Baker, aka Weekendrisktaker@hotmail.com This FAQ was made with the Japanese version of the game, Slime Mori-Mori Dragon Quest II. Please do not write me about what the names might be in the English version, if and when it does reach the USA. 9/17/2006 -- Finally updated, corrected Slygar to Slival, added two extra tank secrets. 10/05/2006 -- updated monster, item, and tank names to their American versions. Thanks go to Kaolinite and Skyrender for their help! Have most of the location names updated as well. ToC 1--- Basic intro to tank warfare -----a: Goals -----b: Ammo Deck -----c: Teamwork -----d: Upgrades 2--- Tactics and approaches 3--- Tank lists 4--- Items list 5--- Allies list 6--- Monsters list 7--- In-game tank encounters list 8--- TANK MASTERS list --------=1= Basic Intro to Tank Warfare------ Tank battles are a fun, albeit odd, addition to the Slime Quest series, and one which makes this game more enjoyable than it has any right to be. Most of the battles are easy, but there are a few near the end, and in the Tank Tournament, which will be close calls, most likely. Your main objective is to 1) reduce your enemy tank's HP to zero, so 2) you can get into the engine core and bust up the motor, a big heart-shaped device. Once this is destroyed, the battle is over. Until it's gone, however, the enemy will continue to blast away at you, in the hopes that they can do it to you before you do it to them. How do you beat them down, you ask? Simple. In your tank, you have two cannons, and a deck of thirty pieces of ammo. There are quite a lot of things you can set in your ammo deck, some more useful than others. This does not mean you have only thirty shots, however. It merely sets the frequency of certain items turning up. First, the two cannons. One fires straight across the field, the other angles upwards. You can use either as much as you like. Ammo can hit the enemy's shots in mid-air, which is good, so remember to keep them firing from both cannons for maximum offense and defense. Next, your deck. The deck can be set at Ducktor Cid's shop in town. You can do it yourself, or let Cid do it for you. Trying to exit the shop with an empty or incomplete deck will make the game fill the empty spots with rocks. Not good. Different items are more effective against different opponents, but the game challenge really isn't high enough to make a lot of strategy essential. Third, your team. You can choose up to three comrades to aid you in running your tank. These can be fellow slimes whom you've rescued, or friendly monsters (once certain conditions have been met). Each possible team member has one, more often two, special tactics they can use. Press START in mid- battle to change their behavior, if you wish. Last, upgrades. Once you've rescued Slanick, he'll move in next to Ducktor Cid, and you can hire him for various upgrades. He'll require varying amounts of cash and material for each one, and each job will increase your tank's HP by a certain amount. ---------=2= Tactics and Approaches------------- ---First, the cannons. As mentioned above, you can use your shots to block enemy shots. This is your first line of defense. Some items, like shields and boomerangs, are best used for this sort of defensive tactic, while some good offensive items can actually take two or three hits before being knocked out. --Second, your allies. Allies can have support roles, such as arming the cannons, defensive roles, like repelling invaders, or offensive roles, such as attacking the enemy's tank directly. Different allies have different skills, which you need to take into account, depending on how you want to wage war. As well, some items are better suited for different styles of combat. Have fun. For example, it is possible to damage a tank on the inside. This will not affect the tank's HP, but it will make things easier for you, e.g. you can break the front door of the tank, so your own characters can invade it more easily. If you trash all the panels near the ammo supply spots, the suppliers will also be damaged, and all items provided will be on fire (and dangerous to touch) for a few seconds after they appear. ---------=3= Tanks List---------------- These are the various tanks you will encounter throughout the game. As you defeat them, they become available (for the most part) to you in the TANK MASTERS tournament. Here, they are listed in the order found in TANK MASTERS. Some tanks have special abilities. I will try to include them as needed. And remember, these are the names I've gotten out of the Japanese version of the game. I cannot be sure these will be used in the English version, and for that matter, I'm a little iffy on some of them in the Japanese as well. #1 Schleiman: The Hero rides again Your hero's alter ego, a four-story tall instrument of destruction and mayhem. #2 Platypanzer: Unbillievable! A Momonja themed tank. Otherwise, nothing special. #3 Carrot Top: A real hare razer has a one-time horn missile attack. If you're playing as this tank (in TM), hit the big red button on the lower deck to launch the missile. #4 The Golemator: Golly Gosh! A golem themed tank. Nothing special #5 The Purrsecutor: Look what the cat dragged in... A Jailcat themed tank. Nothing special. #6 Short Shooter: Size isn't everything Um, cute, I guess... ? #7 Chrono Twigger: Its bark is worse than its bite A Mad Tree themed tank. As its health goes down, it loses foliage. Points for originality, I guess.... #20 Argonaut: Mostly Charmless Almost exactly like T-RAX, but red. #21 The Carnyvore: By fair means or foul Cute, but otherwise nothing special. #22 Bully Mammoth: It never forgets An elephantine armored tank, with a one-shot tusk missile similar to the Carrot Top's. #23 Knightro: Hail to all slime knights Another special code tank. That's what this thing looks like. Yeah... odd... #26 Nemesis: You Bo, girl! Your little sister just had to get in on the fun, and got her own tank. Cute, isn't it? Special props go to YayECE for finding this out for me. #27 Gott Schleiman: Almighty Alchemy! It's a slime... crossed with a gryphon... and turned into a giant tank... um, okay... #28 Schwarzman: The anti-hero of Slimenia The tank of your nemesis, the evil slime mercenary Slival! This thing looks the part too... Apparently this tank is available in the American version, after defeating Slival's 3000 HP tank battle on Mt. Krakatroda. Props go to Pakoito for first telling me about this via email, and to Innerdarkness12, whose thread on the subject helped confirm it for me (since it doesn't look like I can get it on my Japanese copy). ------------------Special Tanks--------------------- #29 Great Demon Tank A tank to end all tanks, this huge machine is too large to actually fit on the screen! Have fun! -------------Special Characters------------------ These three only show up in scripted tank battles. Ducktor Cid - it's Cid!... sort of. He's blue and fuzzy now, and he'll talk you through your first tank battle with the cliff at Sarasuna Tomb. After that, he'll retire to run the tank garage back in your hometown. Slival - your true rival and nemesis for this game. No one knows why this foreign slime is helping Don Mojaru, but he's one bad character. He can carry up to three items at once, and is very, very fast. He also has several special physical attacks to use when cornered. Demon King Flucifer - This ghastly spirit inhabits the most evil of all battle tanks, and accidentally possesses Don Clawleone as well. He's fast, teleports, throws lightning and explosives, and generally makes the final tank battle of the storyline a very difficult one. -----------=6= Tank Battles List-------------- I'll try to put these in order, both by area and by order you'll probably fight them in. For that reason, Sarasuna Tomb is coming before Forewoods on this list. --Sarasuna Tomb-- #1 The Cliff. Krackatroda map. Notes: The giant axe on this tank will fall and destroy all items in the air at regular intervals ----------Flucifer's Necropolis---------- The order of battles depends on which direction you go at first. Still, lots of higher-power items used. #2 Mocomo and his War Chest 1 Platypunk, 3 Jinksters, 500 HP Location: right side, upper-middle area Notes: a real grabbag of ammo, even uses Gold Ingots! In the engine room, take the lower path. #3 Mogruzo and The Golemator 1 Mischievous Mole, 1 Dancing Flame, 2 Wyrtles, 530HP Location: left side, first battle. Notes: Wyrtles launch themselves at you, and take several hits to knock out of the air. #4 Momotta and his War Chest 1 Platypunk, 1 Imp, 2 ghosts, 500HP Location: left side, upper-middle area, opposite Mocomo Notes: watch out for thieving ghosts! Killing Machines will try to board through your cannon deck. Some of the walls inside the tank are spiked. Killing Machines WILL target you once you get inside, so be careful. #3 Iona and his Daemolition Man 1 Restless Armour, 3 Imps, 650HP Notes: as above, watch out for barrages. The tank's sawblade will swing down at regular intervals. Uses Scythes from time to time. Can use Ionamite. Be careful. #4 Slyval and his Schwarzman Slyval, not sure on HP right now notes: lots of high-power ammo, like meteors and fireballs #4b Deshio and his S. Cargo! 1 Platypunk, 3 Dancing Flames, 800HP Location: where Slival was, after you beat the game. Notes: uses meteors and fireballs. Also has a lot of Mirror Shields. #5 FINAL TANK BATTLE VS. Flucifer, and his Tank of Destruction! 1500HP This thing is HUGE. Most of it is off-screen, but it's obvious this dragon-shaped machine is the biggest thing in this part of the DQ universe. It can fire up to 4 drill missiles at once, repeatedly, and has a charge-up blast attack that hits very, very hard. Also, when Flucifer boards your tank (this is a definite, not a possibility), do your best to keep him away from the engine room. He has a line-hit explosion attack that can take out your engine FROM THE ENTRANCE TO THE ENGINE ROOM. Invading this tank to limit its attack won't work here. The Tank of Destruction has an automatic ammo supplier... You'll have one assistant for this battle, and you won't be able to direct their actions, either. Do your best... and good luck!
