Gameplay, Tips, and Tricks Divergent Shift uses some classic platforming mixed with new gameplay. Kirra can jump, grab ledges, move boxes, slide, and wall jump. Press A to jump, X to interact with objects, and L or R to see farther left or right. There are two types of levels: normal, and shadow. In normal levels, any obstacle on one screen affects Kirra on both screens. In shadow levels, obstacles only affect the character on that screen. Kirra and her double, Shadow Kirra, can be separated easily. Tips for normal levels: If it ever seems like you're stuck, just glance at the other screen. These levels are simple for the most part, just pay attention to where you can wall jump and where you can't. Boxes are often helpful on the screen they're not on. Tips for shadow levels: If you need to separate Kirra and Shadow Kirra, walls are a great way to do it. Jumping into a wall on one screen let's you keep going on the other. If you get to a particularly hard part, don't be afraid to move on with one screen and leave the other Kirra behind. As long as you don't go very far left or right, you can tackle the obstacles one at a time. If that's not an option, look for similar obstacles to move across at the same time. 2. The Characters There are only three characters in the game. They are: Kirra, Shadow Kirra, and Magna. Kirra: Main character of the game, and the one you play as. She was supposed to steal a strange mirror for unknown reasons. Shadow Kirra: Appears now and then, taking over or replacing the second Kirra. Magna: Writer of the journal entries you come across in the game. 3. Terms There are some terms used in the game and in this guide that you may not recognize. Hopefully this section will explain them to you. Checkpoint: You can't see them, but if you die you will go back to the last one of these that you went past. Divergent shift: The name of the game, and an event that took place in the past. It's the reason for the existence of Shadow Kirra, the second reality, and the mirror. Entry: Short for journal entry. They are the things that look like books and are found periodically throughout the levels, giving information about what happened before the game began. Slide: Move while at half your normal height. It's done by running and then holding down and the direction you're moving. Sync: To get in the same place on both screens. In normal levels, the Kirras are always synced. In shadow levels, touching a vortex will sync Kirra and Shadow Kirra or you can find ways to sync them yourself. Vortex: Purple circle that syncs Kirra and Shadow Kirra. Only found in shadow levels. Wall jump: When you hit a wall, you can press A to jump off of it and go higher. You can keep wall jump off of a wall jump. 4. Locations There are four major locations and one minor location in this game. I'll briefly describe each one and explain how to find the journal entries. 4a. Castle's Keep There's not much to the tower. There are no journal entries, and falling is the only way to die. It exists mainly as a tutorial. 4b. Forest The forest contains six stages for a total of 12 journal entries. This is the easiest of the levels (besides the castle's keep), mainly teaching you how to use both screens at the same time. The only ways to die are from falling or from spiky branches. Forest Stage 1 (2-1): 3 entries Entry 42: Continue along the main path and you will run into it. Entry 1: Same as 42, but later in the stage. Entry 2: Starting from where you found entry 1, go left and up. On the bottom screen, get on a tree trunk. Jump left to get on another platform on the top screen. Wall jump to get to a higher platform on the bottom screen. Jump left and fall in between the two tree trunks. Forest Stage 2 (2-2): 2 entries Entry 3: Go along the main path. The first time you have an option to go up or stay down, just stay down. It will be on the ground. Entry 4: Go to the end of the level. Go left until you get to the log. Jump up to the log on the left. From there, jump as far to the left as you can. You should get to a log with the entry on it. Forest Stage 3 (2-3): 3 entries Entry 5: Directly along the main path, near the beginning. Entry 6: Farther along the main path, near a tree trunk on the bottom screen. Entry 7: Go directly above where you got Entry 6. Push or pull the box all the way to the left. Get on it and jump to the tree trunk to the left. Keep going going left and slide under the trunk to get to the entry. Forest Stage 4 (2-4): 2 entries Entry 8: Directly along the main path, near the beginning. Entry 9: Continue along the main path until you push the box to wall jump up to a platform, and then wall jump up to a smaller platform. Jump left to the log, jump left to the other log, and continue upwards. Slide under some sharp branches and fall a short distance to get to the journal entry. Forest Stage 5 (2-5): 1 entry Entry 10: So far, the entries have been pretty easy to get. This is the first of the hard ones. Go to the point where you must wall jump multiple times with ledges in the trees for you to grab onto. Get on top of the left tree trunk. Here comes the tricky part: inch your way off the trunk on the left side until you start to fall. Press right immediately to grab onto the edge. Press down to fall and hold right to slide down the trunk. Wait half a second and wall jump. Hopefully, you will land on or grab the edge of the next tree trunk. Do this step again to reach a platfrom. From there, it's just a slow descent to the left to get to the entry. Forest Stage 6 (2-6): 1 entry Entry 11: Right along the main path. You are practically forced to get it. 4c. Temple The temple consists of seven stages with a total of 11 entries. They are harder than the forest was. In addition to the previous ways of dying (replacing spiky branches with spikes), you can die from being squashed by a giant block. Moving platforms are added in, and timing becomes more important. Temple Stage 1 (3-1): 1 entry Entry 12: At the beginning, activate the first lever. After that, go as far to the right as possible with both Kirra and Shadow Kirra. Move to the left side of the switch and activate it. Shadow Kirra should hitch a ride on top of the rising pillar and reach an entry. Temple Stage 2 (3-2): 2 entries Entry 13: On the bottom screen, go to the top of the wall after your first jump. Instead of jumping to the next platform, fall up to reach the next entry. Entry 14: On the top screen, go to the part where you must pull a box to the left and slide under a pillar. Do that and then use the two pillars right above you to wall jump up to another entry. Temple Stage 3 (3-3): 2 entries Entry 15: On the top screen, go to the first block that tries to squash you. Wait for it to fall, then wall jump to get on top of it and run to the right. Be careful not to let Shadow Kira die. Entry 16: Start from where you found entry 15. Go left to get on the block and ride it up to a higher set of platforms. Go right, but focus on the bottom screen to make sure Shadow Kirra doesn't get squashed by the blocks. The entry will be on the top screen after a short drop. Temple Stage 4 (3-4): 1 entry Entry 17: Go through the normal path until you get to the vortex. Touch it to sync the Kirras and then jump to the pillar to your left on the bottom screen. Inch your way off of it then grab onto the edge. Press down and do a wall jump to get it. Temple Stage 5 (3-5): 3 entries Entry 18: After you get past the first moving platform and wall jump up to the top of a couple pillars, jump to the left. Get through the spikes with some good timing (don't worry if you don't, there's a checkpoint right before them). On the other side is the entry. Entry 20: Start from where you found entry 18. On the top screen, wait for a moving platform to rise up next to you on the left. Get on it and ride it down to a stationary platform. Go to the right to find the entry. Entry 19: Follow the main path. It will be in the air on the bottom screen. Temple Stage 6 (3-6): 1 entry Entry 21: Go to the end of the level. On the top screen, jump the small gap to the left and walk as far as you can. The entry will be on the bottom screen. Temple Stage 7 (3-7): 1 entry Entry 22: On the part where the blocks cross each others' paths on both screens, get on top of the block on the bottom screen that leads to the top right. Jump to the little platform on the top right and wall jump up to the entry. 4d. Castle The castle has 6 stages containing 19 entries. This is by far the hardest level. There are no new things to kill you, but they get more creative. Speed is required for the first time in the game. Shadow mechanics become more of an obstacle than before. Castle Stage 1 (4-1): 2 entries Entry 24: Right along the main path, above the first vortex. Entry 23: After entry 24, slide under the wall on the right and jump up at the first opportunity. Shadow Kirra will be stuck, so just focus on the top screen. Wall jump up past some blocks and fall on the right side of the wall to reach the entry. Castle Stage 2 (4-2): 5 entries Entry 25: In the air at the beginning of the level. Entry 26: When you reach the first set of levers, have Shadow Kirra fall down the hole on the right. Entry 27: At the first set of levers, have Kirra fall down the hole on the left. Entry 28: You should be able to see this one next to a vortex, but that vortex and the wall next to it prevent you from getting there. Go to the right until Shadow Kirra is on the right side of a wall. Jump and hold left so that Kirra will be farther left than Shadow Kirra. Go back to the left and get the entry. Entry 29: After you make your way up some stairs with switches on the bottom screen and floating platforms on the top screen, you should hit a vortex. On the bottom screen, there will be two pits you can fall into. Fall into the one on the left. Castle Stage 3 (4-3): 5 entries Entry 30: Go to the first vortex. Jump to the right and keep going until you reach a tunnel. Jump and hit the top of it on the top screen but keep holding right to get Shadow Kirra farther to the right than Kirra. Go back to the left and jump across to the entry. Entry 31: This one's a tough one. Go to the part where you're stuck hanging on one of two ledges on the bottom screen. On the top screen, continue forward until you reach some stairs with spikes that you can slide under. Move to the right side of the platform where you can slide. Jump in the air, and press the jump button again just before you land. This will make Shadow Kirra wall jump, giving you time to run and slide without making Shadow Kirra fall to her death. Entry 32: Continue along the main path. When you get to the vortex in front of the moving spikes, wall jump on top of them and then jump up to the top of the left wall. The entry will be on top. Entry 33: At the moving spikes, run under the spikes and fall down a little. Duck to make sure the spikes don't come down on your head. When they go back up, jump up to the right and run. As soon as you can, start sliding. Keep holding down and right to keep sliding all the way to the entry. Entry 34: Don't get this one at the same time as 33. It'll just make it harder to get 34. Go to the moving spikes and go over them instead of under. Go to the vortex on the other side. Wall jump on both the top and bottom screen. Go left until there's a large pit. Jump down it and wall jump on the top screen to make sure you don't hit the vortex. The entry should be right in front of you. Castle Stage 4 (4-4): 2 entries Entry 35: Right along the main path, just after the first moving blocks on the bottom screen. Entry 36: Go to the moving blocks at the beginning of the level. Wall jump onto the one that goes up farther than the other. From there, wall jump up higher, walk a little, and fall down to your left. Stay close to the wall. Castle Stage 5 (4-5): 1 entry Entry 37: Right along the main path, above a vortex on the top screen. Castle Stage 6 (4-6): 4 entries Entry 38: Follow the main path. It will be on the top screen above where the first bottom screen lever is. Entry 39: Follow the main path. When you get stuck in a place with three walls for wall jumping on the bottom screen, move as fast as possible on the top screen. Go right, up, and then left and down a little. The entry will be to the right, and you need to slide to reach it. Entry 40: Follow the main path as fast as possible. Keep going past where 39 is and keep going until you hit the vortex. Immediately run to the left. If you were fast enough, Shadow Kirra will touch the entry before the rising platform gets too high. Entry 41: Right along the main path, after the vortex. 4e. The Final Stages Don't read this part if you want to be surprised by the ending. You have been warned. Reality begins to merge with the other reality, causing some very weird phenomena. There are several floating platforms, and the only thing that can kill you is falling. Doing that starts you back at the bottom. If you manage to make it to the top, your shadow self will force you back to the bottom and try to take over. It fails, but it does manage to mess with you. Now normal Kirra is on the bottom screen, and Shadow Kirra is on the top. Any commands you put it will work like usual for Kirra, but Shadow Kirra will move backwards. Also, you are on a time limit. If you don't make it to the top in time, you have to start back before the first time you made it to the top. Good luck! 5. Text from the Game If you missed any journal entries or want to read them all at once, here they are. The journal entries are first since they explain what happened before the game started. I organized them into paragraphs based on what they say. 5a. Journal Entries Here are all of the journal entries, in numerical order. The individual entries are separated by [#] where the # is the number of the following entry. I organized them into paragraphs. [1] My name is Magna. I never thought I'd start a journal, but I can't keep this to myself anymore. Everything's gone wrong. [2] I am a channeler, one highly skilled at controlling the energy that flows through the world. I channel the power that surrounds us all into usable form, for practical application and science. [3] I am a high-ranking member of an Order that has studied the very nature of our world since ages past. [4] We studied the energies of the land so that we could harness their power. We have wielded these powers for the benefit of the world, but we should have known our limits. [5] All of this started with ambition. It always does. We thought we were above it all, playing as we did with the eneries of this world. We were such fools. [6] We wanted to control them, these Torrents, the lifeblood of the world winding like rivers through the land. The source of our power, these invisible currents of positive and negative energy, still held such untapped potential. [7] We dreamt up an experiment, to study these Torrents of energy. [8] A site had been found for the experiment, ideal in every way. A war-worn castle astride a most ancient wood. [9] The castle and forest are focal points of energy in the region. Torrents of immense strength flow through them, one negative and one positive. It is the closest we have ever observed opposing Torrents pass near each other. [10] The old castle had seen countless wars and its walls had born witness to untold tragedy. Its grounds were seeped in the decay of thousands of withered souls. [11] The ancient forest was a wellspring of life, coursing with resplendent energies of light and hope. [12] To magnify our ability to manipulate energy, we would need an amplification device. For a task this colossal, we would need to make this device as large as a building. [13] We built a temple to wrench the currents of the world from their natural course, and bend them to our whim. [14] We would direct the positive and negative Torrents toward each other in an experimental technique we are calling divergent shift. We hoped that as they clashed, like colliding rivers, the resulting 'rapids' would yield phenomena for study like none before. [15] The positive energy from the forest collided with the negative energy around the ancient castle. Reality seemed to shatter. Space distorts, and gravity seems tenuous at best. At times, some have felt almost as though they inhabited two realities at once. The divergent shift was such a success. We had never witnessed such marvels. [16] The phenomenon was amazing. Time, space...the very laws of physics seem to change here. [17] We studied the phenomena intensely, eager as children with new toys. There was no method, only madness, and it was grand. Oh, the things we learned. [18] The phenomena are grand indeed, but the brighter the light, the deeper the shadow. There has been a horrifying side effect. [19] We did not anticipate the Torrent of negative energy cascading into our reality. Its darkness twists the minds of the weak, and turns them against the rest of our Order. These Fallen embrace thier greed and hate. We cannot work with them. Everything is coming apart. [20] We didn't realize how many of our number had been corrupted. It is far more than we imagined. [21] We are trying to find ways to undo the corruption, and heal the Fallen, but we are making little headway. [22] We try to maintain order, but the quarrels and feuding take their toll. We are losing control. [23] The Fallen are lost to us. They cannot be reasoned with, and now they turn to violence. I fear it will tear the Order apart. [24] It has come to war. The Fallen grow more ferocious every day, and their numbers grow as those of us with doubts succumb to the corruption. What will become of us? [25] A leader has emerged among the Fallen. His name is Gera. He was once one of our strongest, revered even after he retired. We always looked for his return, but never like this. [26] Civil war consumes the lives of my friends, and dark corruption turns my brethren against us. Darker times we have never faced. [27] Our leader has fallen in battle. I am to take his place now. Though I never sought to lead, I will not turn my back on this responsibility. If this Order can be saved, than I am the one who must save it. [28] More of our number are turned, and add to the rising ranks of the Fallen. Gera rallies them beneath him. We are not winning this war. [29] We stand at the precipice of defeat, and it beckons us onward, but one answer lies before us. We have found a way to reverse the divergent shift! We will seal the raging Torrents so foolishly unleashed. We are loath to ruin what we labored so hard to create, but to lose all our work is not so horrible as to lose everything. [30] Our desperation has driven us to this. We have fashioned a Mirror to seal the Torrents. We will undo our mistake. [31] Those of us who remain will channel the dark and light Torrents into the Mirror with all of our power. It will consume and seal away the rampant energies that have torn apart this land, and our Order. [32] The mirror will act as a doorway, or perhaps a drain. Through it, the wild Torrents will be funneled into a highly compressed space. [33] With the rampaging Torrents sealed in the Mirror, the phenomena will subside. The rules of the physical world will return to their natural order. [34] After the Mirror seals the negative Torrent away, its corrupting influence will fade as well. We will once again be able to trust our own minds. [35] The Mirror is done. The phenomena are surpressed, and the energies have been contained. The Fallen remain, but we can seal them in the mirror individually. [36] We have subdued most of them. We advance steadily but cautiously. I fear it, but the confrontation with Gera looms. [37] Gera proved too strong. He rallied his forces, repelling our attack, and managed to crack the Mirror. We cannot fix it. We don't know what to do. [38] I have the solution, but the others will not like it. I will seal myself within the Mirror, and repair it from within. I will be unable to escape, but Gera cannot be left free. This is the only way. [39] I must repair the Mirror, for in its broken state, it can no longer act as a weapon. I am not sure if we can overcome Gera without it. [40] We cannot repair the Mirror physically from the outside. Once I have entered the Mirror, I will be able tap the energy within it to mend the damage done. [41] The decision is made. Tomorrow we go forward with the plan. My colleagues among the Order have promised they will lock the Mirror in the tower once Gera is sealed within. Let us hope it lays undisturbed forever. [42]...fragmented...reality...held together by the Mirror. 5b. Dialogue Since Kirra is the only one talking for the majority of the game, I wrote her lines as just "K:" instead of "Kirra:" except for the final stages where there is actual dialogue taking place. Castle's Keep Stage 1 (1-1) K: Here at last. Now, let's see... K: .... K: What were the instructions again? Instructions: The Mirror is located in the top chamber of the castle's keep. Instructions: It is small and will be resting on a pedestal. Retrieve it and bring it back. Instructions: Be cautioned. The only way to reach the top of the keep will be to scale the exterior. K: Simple enough. Grab the Mirror, in and out, and I'll be on my way. Bottom Screen: To jump, press the A or B button. Bottom Screen: To slide, press Down on the + Control Pad while running. Bottom Screen: Kirra can latch onto certain edges and objects. Press the A or B button while latching to jump. Bottom Screen: While latching, press down on the + Control Pad to drop down. Bottom Screen: These objects mark the end of the level. Castle's Keep Stage 2 (1-2) Bottom Screen: To wall jump, press the A or B Button when next to a wall in midair. There is no need to press the + Control Pad. Bottom Screen: Press the + Control Pad towards a wall while falling against it to slow your fall speed. Bottom Screen: Press the A or B button twice while latching to jump off of the wall above you. Castle's Keep Stage 3 (1-3) Bottom Screen: To push crates, hold the X or Y Button when the X Button appears and move towards the crate. Bottom Screen: To pull crates, hold the X or Y Button when the X Button appears and move away from the crate. Bottom Screen: Remember, to wall jump just press the A or B Button. Bottom Screen: To manipulate objects like signs or switches, press the X or Y Button when the X Button appears. Sign: Signs offer hints when you need them! Bottom Screen: Hold the L or R Buttons to move the camera left or right to see more of the level. Castle's Keep Stage 4 (1-4) K: There it is! K: Almost there. K: Jackpot. K: What's so special about this thing anyway.... K: Seems like an ordinary mirror to me- K: !!! K: That wasn't my reflection.... K: Wha...that...who was that? K: Oh no I can't believe I broke the Mirror! K: !!! K: This place is coming apart, I'd better get out of- Forest Stage 1 (2-1) K: Ow, my head... K: What...where am I... K: Huh? K: What's blocking me? There's nothing here. K: What's happening? How am I...in two places at once? K: I have to find my way out of here. Before reading first journal entry... K: What's this? Looks like part of a notebook. K: Hmmm. I can barely make anything out... K: That Mirror held together reality? K: Did breaking it split reality in two? K: Maybe I should try to find what's left of the Mirror. K: But first I have to figure out what's going on. Forest Stage 2 (2-2) No dialogue. Forest Stage 3 (2-3) No dialogue. Forest Stage 4 (2-4) No dialogue. Forest Stage 5 (2-5) No dialogue. Forest Stage 6 (2-6) K: Is that a piece of the mirror? K: Now I just have to get to it... At the end of the level... K: Phew! Finally made it! Information: You collected a Mirror Shard! K: I can't believe I found one out here. K: I wonder where the other pieces are... Temple Stage 1 (3-1) K: Ugh, not again. That's not something I want to get used to. K: Well, I've got one piece. Let's the hope the others are as easy to find. K: What's happening to me?! K: What is this darkness?! K: Oh no... does this have to do with the Mirror? K: I hope I can find the other pieces before things get any worse. Later in the level... Sign: Touching a vortex re-synchronizes the top and bottom characters. K: I wonder what that means... Temple Stage 2 (3-2) No dialogue. Temple Stage 3 (3-3) No dialogue. Temple Stage 4 (3-4) No dialogue. Temple Stage 5 (3-5) K: Ah! K: The darkness.... K: It's gone. K: I hope it doesn't come back. Information: You collected a Mirror Shard! K: Second piece. One to go. K: Better brace myself for- Castle Stage 1 (4-1) K: Ugh, that never gets any easier. K: Okay, now what... K: This looks sort of familiar... K: Is this...the inside of the castle? K: If the Mirror brought me here, then the last piece must be nearby! K: Ah, not again! K: I really need to hurry and find that last piece of the Mirror. Castle Stage 2 (4-2) No dialogue. Castle Stage 3 (4-3) No dialogue. Castle Stage 4 (4-4) No dialogue. Castle Stage 5 (4-5) No dialogue. Castle Stage 6 (4-6) K: There's the final piece! K: I'm so close, I can't mess up now. At the end of the level... K: Here it is. Information: You collected a Mirror Shard! K: I've got all the pieces, finally. K: Now how do I put them together... The Final Level, Stage 1 (Finale Intro) Kirra: Now what?! I thought I was done! Kirra: Hey! I know this place. This is where I first found the Mirror. Kirra: Aaagh! Wha....what's happening?! Shadow Kirra: Why, the inevitable of course! Shadow Kirra: I am ever so thankful to you for breaking that mirror. Kirra: What are you talking about? Who ARE you? Shadow Kirra: You really haven't figured it out yet? Shadow Kirra: I am YOU, or the real you, anyway. Shadow Kirra: Supressed for years, your darkest impulses and deepest fears. Shadow Kirra: When you broke the Mirror, reality split. Shadow Kirra: And two realities means two bodies. Shadow Kirra: With out spare body to play around in... Shadow Kirra: I got quite a breath of fresh air. Kirra: That... you're one of the Fallen! Like in Magna's journal! Shadow Kirra: Fallen? Oh not yet we're not, still separated like this. Shadow Kirra: But now that you've repaired the Mirror, realities will merge. Shadow Kirra: We'll have just one body, again. Shadow Kirra: And this time... Shadow Kirra: I'm not goint to be the repressed one!!! Kirra: No... Kirra: NO! Kirra: I won't let you! Kirra: I'm the real Kirra, and you're just my Fallen side! Kirra: And the Fallen can be beaten by the Mirror! Kirra: I'll beat you just like Magna beat the Fallen before! Shadow Kirra: Ha, give up and spare yourself the trouble! Shadow Kirra: You don't even know how to use the Mirror! Mirror: She may not know how to use it, but she's not in this alone! Kirra: ! Mirror: Kirra, place the Mirror in the pedestal! Mirror: Quickly, before- The Final Level, Stage 2 (The Finale) Kirra: What in the world?! Mirror: Reality is coming together! Mirror: You must get the Mirror to the pedestals above! Mirror: Quickly, while you can still control her! After getting to the pedestal... Shadow Kirra: I don't think so! Yu're slowly losing control, Kirra! Shadow Kirra: Just give up. Shadow Kirra: You can't defeat me! Kirra: If you were really that strong I wouldn't have made it up there at all! Kirra: You just caught me by surprise, that's all. Shadow Kirra: Oh, you doubt me? Shadow Kirra: You don't have a chance. Kirra: We'll see about that! Shadow Kirra: Oh, you want a fight? I'll give you a fight! Shadow Kirra: The realities are merging! Shadow Kirra: You'll never make it back up in time. Shadow Kirra: Tick tock girl, better hurry! After getting the to pedestal the second time... Shadow Kirra: Impossible! The Final Level, Stage 3 (The End) Kirra: ... Kirra: Sigh... Kirra: ... Kirra: All that work over one little mirror. Kirra: Who would have ever thought... Kirra: Well, I guess it's time to head back. Kirra: I better get a bonus for all this. The Final Level, Stage 4 (Credits) No dialogue. The Final Level, Stage 5 (Epilogue) Kirra: You know, I just can't wait to get home. Kirra: I'm really glad this whole thing is finally over. Mirror: I'm sorry to tell you, but I'm afraid that is far from the truth. Kirra: What? Kirra: You again? Kirra: Who ARE you? Mirror: My name is Magna. Magna: And it has only just begun. 6. FAQ's Q: The game says there is only one journal entry in 2-4, but this guide says there are two. Not only that, but the game says there are four journal entries in 4-3, while this guide says there are five! Who do I believe? A: Check it out for yourself. They aren't the easiest journal entries to get, but there are definitely more journals in those levels than the game claims there are. Q: How do I unlock more levels? A: Select the level you want to unlock and press A. It will tell you the requirements. Q: Are there any journals in the post game levels? A: Nope, they are all found in levels 2 through 4 in the main game. Q: How do you know what the different levels are called? A: The journals mention a forest, a castle, and a temple. The levels each seem to follow one of those themes with the exception of the first, which Kirra's instructions at the beginning of the game refer to as the castle's keep.
