About: This guide as it is was composed entirely by Cr24 (that's Chrome to you my friend). It consists of the floor plans for each of the maps visited in both chapters 1 and 2 of Deep Labyrinth. This is not particularly helpful unless you know where you need to go, i.e. someone tells you to go and find the Magic Sword in Tartarus Woods, and you would like to get there directly rather than wandering around. Also included are some little bits of advice that you may or may not find helpful, and The spells and items I gained as I played through the game (possibly incomplete). Glaring omissions in this guide include the Parallel Labyrinth (Chapter 1, I know it may be reached by the unstable warp in the Maze of Red Gems, but have been unable to do so. You will not find the locations of the various items (armor, shields, swords, keys, juicy bones, or spells) in the FAQ proper, but in a spoiler appendix at the end. Additions to that section may be sent to me at cr24 at mail dot com. Include 'deep labyrinth' in the subject or it will be deleted. Feel free to edit, copy, print, share, and distribute this guide in any form you see fit. All I ask is that somewhere in it you retain the information that it began as a work composed by myself. -laters, Chrome P.S. I'm looking for a nice little handheld (with keyboard) to write FAQs on the go maybe something like the old Psion Series 5, or a text editor for the DS, if you have a suggestion please contact me. To-do: 1. Finish maps for Chapter 1. (No Parallel Labyrinth/Clustered Crystals) 2. Finish maps for Chapter 2. (verify completeness) 3. Clear up glaring omissions. 4. Correct my terrible spelling/grammar. 5. Complete items list. 6. Complete spell list. 7. Add compounded spell list. 8. Finish Chapter 1 Spoilers 9. Finish Chapter 2 Spoilers (additional armors/shields can be found) Generic Tips: 1. Chests containing HP or MP items will reload and may be visited again. 2. If you need to level up your character quickly just equip all the cursed items; Sword, Armor, and Shield. Each one raises your monster encounter rate by 200% 3. You never really have to say anything to the DS, just blowing on the mic is plenty. 4. Screen protectors might be a good idea, there is seriously heavy stylus use in this game. 5. Chapter 1 is far more newbie friendly than Chapter 2, and will explain some of the key elements of game play that are not explained in Chapter 2. 6. Only the items in your pockets may be accessed while fighting. About the maps: The maps are not to scale although I have tried to make them close. Rooms that share a common wall may be accessed by a door or stable portal between them. Rooms not sharing a common wall must be reached by a stable or unstable portal which may or may not be located on the corresponding wall of an adjacent room. First Chapter: Shawn & Ace Tips and Tricks 1. The Cursed Sword has a great attack 700% at level 1, but the power goes down as the sword levels up. So it's better to just level up the golden sword. 2. Don't take the path to the west in the Chamber of Decisions, you don't need a key to access the yellow floor path on the other side. (If you have the Amadeus Herb you can take the yellow floor path, but be sure to get the second herb from the chest before the first herb runs out.) 3. There are two Silver Swords to be found but having both helps you in no way whatsoever. 4. Chrome drinks way to much tea and has a massive crush on Atlus. I <3 Etrian Odyssey 5. There are three combos to access three different rooms in the Double-Whirl Palace, one each to the West, North, and East. 6. The Immortal Shield helps in Tartarus Woods and the Maze of Ambush but doesn't compare to the resistance granted by Holokleria. Just use both, but they still aren't 100% so look out. 7. If you hug the walls in the Maze of Ambush the death shooting gargoyles can't hit you. 8. To gain extra time to cast the resurrection spell save an Amadeus Herb and use it just before entering the altar, your health will not get blasted. 9. If you have trouble fighting Theta just use the Magic Sword and [Max] after every attack spell you cast. Map 1: Celestial Garden +--------+ | | | | | 01 | | | +--------+ Celestial Garden 01. Memory-Eater Finishing: Up until the time you enter the Memory-Eater board you are free to go back to the very beginning and hunt for items or level up. Once you enter that board your only choice is to defeat Theta or die and become a wandering soul. After defeating Theta you are presented with the option of saving your game, after watching the credits, if you save over your previous file it is gone. The after finish save results in a file called 'ClearData'. This is just a place holder/score card of sorts, it will read something like this: R(# of times played) Lv (your level) Time (your play time) If you load this file at a later time it will simply begin Chapter 1 over again from the start. Saving after beginning with a ClearData file will raise the R number by 1 each time you complete the game. Second Chapter: Wandering Soul Tips and Tricks: 1. Don't use a key unless you have to, it will lead to nice items later on. 2. You know you wont need to use a key when the monsters talk about secret exits etc. 3. Any areas skipped by not using a key can be visited from another room farther along in the same map. 4. Watch your close up view for monsters hiding in secret rooms. Celestial Palace Finishing: The final boss is a bit harder than you might expect, more so because you have a soul to worry about. The best way to win, is just to hit him again and again with your strongest attack spells. Faino + Plethuno is probably your best bet, but its heavy on the MP be sure to have plenty of Vivos in your pockets. If you manage to defeat the boss with the crystal intact you get a nice happy ending. If the crystal is destroyed before you defeat the boss, you can still win but the ending will not be happy. Aside from that, the ClearData savefile is the same as Chapter 1, so save in one of your empty slots then go back and defeat the boss again letting the crystal be destroyed, or keeping it intact, to see the ending you did not get when you won the first time. Message 1 will not repeat. (I think?) These are all the messages I have seen, there may be others. 1. The first message will be mostly z's and ...'s 2. Helloo..! I'm Arai. I was in charge of direction. What do I do as a director? Hmmmm... this and that..! That is to say, I do various stuff (^-^) It's a fun job to be able to create something. Did you like Deep Labyrinth? It would also make me happy to know that you're able to enjoy the sound effects of the game... when the gameplay is not too hectic to listen to them! In fact, when you have cleared the game, I recommend you listen to the sound effects again. 3. Hey, guys! I'm Mitsuda! I composed the game music. I've been involved with this game from the time of the original version in Japan. All the staff were so involved with this game. I did my best to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and compose the best music I could. It would make me very happy if you enjoy the music while playing Deep Labyrinth. The more I stay on here chatting, the more expensive your telephone bill will be! I'd better let you go! Bye! 4. Hello..! This is Matsuda, I'm still working at the office. What's up? ......... Hmmm... that may be a little difficult... ......... That's I wonder what that is... Do I have a favorite mini-game? Probably Slime Balloon. It reminded me of hoe happy I felt when I blew up my first balloon as a kid! When I first put it in, it was far too difficult to blow into it... and I thought I'd collapse from lack of oxygen whilst trying it out! I wanted to put in more games that use the microphone... but had to give up on the idea because of lack of time. What kind of games? That's a secret! For example, if you say, 'Shake hands!' to Ace, then he'd take your hand. Umm, nothing as ordinary as that! Much more ridiculous stuff, in fact...! I'm a little embarrassed to tell you...! OK, that's all for now! I'm off for home, bye! 5. This is Inoue! I was in charge of creating game events. My favorite scenes are the appearance of a giant at the hills... and the appearance of the Phoenix at the place of the fire gaurdian. Did you think thjey were cool!? I really hope you enjoy the game. Haa... I want to drink apple milk! 6. Hi, this is Shimokawa. I'm in charge of 3D graphics. I listen to alot of music while I work, especially hard rock! Fantastic! It would give me a lot of pleasure if you like my 3D characters, settings and monsters. My favorite was Ace. Working on him made me want to get a dog of my own! And finally... thank you so much for enjoying this game. Bye! 7. Hi... is that... Shawn!? I'm so excited to get a call from you, the main character... it's strange to talk with you on a cell phone. Ah, by the way, this is Miyata, in charge of 2D graphics. I created images to the best of my ability, drawing on many different emotions. When it came to designing strange things, it was hard work... For example, with the Gate of the Gaurd Dogs... it was so complicated, I wasn't sure how to express it in pixels. When you come across such strange places, don't forget to think of me! So, let's have fun again sometime! Say hello to Ace. By the way, my emotion at 4 O'clock last week was that I really wanted to eat seaweed noodles. 8. Hello! This is Kato, can you hear me? I helped with the main scenario and wrote the Shawn and Ace section. I'll be very happy if you find the game enjoyable. We all feel and experience various emotions every day. And they change as time goes on. It's important for us to value them. I hope we'll meet again, sometime and someplace... 9. Hello, this is Takeda speaking. You're quite the games to have gotten this far! I'm honored to be able to talk with you here. How was the game did you enjoy it? In the middle of things one of the staff changed her family name to mine, which was a surprise for everyone! I think you get what I mean...! It's something that often happens (^^;. There's a hinto on the staff credits... I think it's one of the pieces of work I'm most proud of in my life so far. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all those who bought this... and to all the staff who worked so hard to bring it about. I hope to meet up with you again next time! I'd like to ask a few questions. Did you gather up the red, blue, black, white and three transparent ones? It can be hard work to get the Cursed Sword, but it will be fun for those who like it. With that, see you next time! 10. Hello, how are you? I'm Yamamoto in charge of graphics. It was quite hard work to get the colors right when painting the graphics for the game... By the way, this has nothing to do with anything, but the last boss in the game has the same name as my PC! 11. Hello, this is Kuroda, who was in charge of sound effects. I didn't have much time to actually play the game during development, which was a shame... RPGs set in dungeons are always fun, aren't they, with their sense of adventure? Did you enjoy it? Me, too. I'll be going into the labyrinth after Ace myself! OK, then... See you again next time! 12. Hi this is Watanabe. I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to all those who got this far! Please accept my thanks and sincere appreciation. 13. Heeellooooo! This is Tsubokawa. What's up?? ......... You got through to the end using only a sword!? You're quite the tough guy, aren't you!? You can also use spells, you know. They make you much stronger. If you still want to use the sword, it's fun to use it with supporting spells. Each monster has an attribute, so you can beat it easily if you attack using the opposite attribute. Did you know that already? But you still prefer the sword... What!? Did you say you got through to the end of the game using only the Bronze Sword? You really are worthy of the title of Swordmaster...! Sorry, I have some stuff to get done, but let's talk again next time! 14. (Beep!) You have 4 messages. Hello, this is Ryu the programmer... maybe you're out of range? I'll call back later. At 1:34 AM. Hello? Still no go... I'll call back. At 1:34 AM. Hey! Still not there? I'll wait for you at Theta's place at 8:00 AM. At 5:16 AM. Noooooo!! Theta's swallowed my memories! (;'[]') ... My bad memories of debugging the game are gone!!! ('v')b At 7:47 AM. 15. Hi there...! This is Morioka (Q). I worked on graphic design for the game. I used to be a theoretical kind of person, the kind you'd classify as a left-brain thinker... but somewhere along the line while being involved in design, I've come to be much more of a right-brain thinker. But, sadly, as a consequence of this my left-brain abilities have degenerated... to the point where I can't even do simple addition! By the way... I created this really cute monster called Robbie who wasn't included in the game. Why didn't he appear? That's because... cough, cough...!
