INTRODUCTION G0100 ============================================================================== Welcome to 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Dark Motives' for the PC, a crime- solving adventure game released by Ubisoft in 2004. It was later released on the Nintendo DS with identical cases but different control schemes. I was told you can use the walkthrough for either release but I wrote this guide with the PC version in mind. Team up with the entire cast of CSI and a new, improved crime lab to track down the heinous truth in fove complex new crimes. No crime is ever perfect. Your job is to find the flaw. Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) OVERVIEW & CONTROLS G0200 =============================================================================== Technical Notes: ```````````````` I cannot give you any specific technical support. You should update the game to v1.01 in any case. This patch addresses the following issues: -General stability/slow-down improvements during extended play sessions -Redundant Casefile update notifications fixed -Magnifying glass effect not appearing in some views fixed -Evidence collected from objects in their pop-up views remain visible fixed -Inactive pieces evidence showing up briefly after exiting lab computer/microscope fixed -Various instances of out-of-context dialogue fixed -UV light effect corruption in evidence pop-up windows fixed -Evidence collection logic adjusted in several instances The game saves automatically after you change to another location. Apart from technical problems you should not get stuck in any way, thus restarting is not required to solve the case. Controls: ````````` You control the game with the mouse only. The tutorial will teach you most about the game, as well as the fellow CSIs. Switch it off under options if you do not require this help. Use the RIGHT mouse button to skip movies and sentences. Rank: ````` Each case gives you a rank at the end, depending on how well you handle the case, collect evidence and how many hints asked from a fellow CSI. At the end of a case you will be asked some questions. If you answer them correctly you can improve your score. Forensic Tools: ``````````````` Double click on tools to get a better description. Hovering over the icon will also give a short info on its usage. *Collection* Swab A forensic swab used to take clean samples of DNA from suspects or unknown wet samples to be processed in the CSI lab. Tweezers Very sharp and durable tweezers used for picking up dangerous or minute pieces of evidence. Mikrosil A putty-like casting material used to make molds of wounds and tool marks on a variety of surfaces. Electrostatic Dust Print Lifter A device that deploys an electrostatic field on a Mylar film to lift dust prints from various surface types. Gloves Latex rubber gloves used to handle large evidence without contamination. Casting Plaster and A metal frame filled with plaster used to take Frame impressions of shoe prints, footprints, and tire tracks. Adhesive Tape Adhesive vinyl lifter used to recover light, powdery, or scattered evidence. Adhesive Specimen Adhesive pad used to lift powdery substances for Mount chemical and electron microscope analysis in the lab. *Detection* Magnifying Scope A battery-operated magnifier with optically ground and polished lenses, useful for examining trace evidence. Fingerprint Powder Powder used to enhance fingerprints on smooth surfaces. Magnetic Powder Magnetic powder used to enhance fingerprints on certain porous objects, such as wood, polystyrere, and painted surfaces. Brush A heavy brush used to remove dirt from surfaces and uncover buried objects. Ninhydrin A chemical substance that reveals latent fingerprints on porous surfaces, such as paper, by reacting with amino acids in the fingerprints. Ultraviolet Light A handheld device that provides invisible light at various wavelengths to enhance potential items of evidence, including bruising and accelerants. Luminol A chemiluminescent that reacts with the iron in hemoglobin, causing blood traces to shine with a blue- green light. =============================================================================== 03.) 06.) FAQ G0600
===============================================================================

1.) Help! I didn't get 100% on one of my cases.

    If you already have updated the game and restarted the case, then make sure
    you have followed the walkthrough step by step. Getting the questions right
    at the end also improves your rating.

2.) In Case 1, I can't ask L. about the sabotage and the tool.

    It could be there is a bug in the game, I have replayed the game with this
    walkthrough and it works perfectly. So far I have not heard from anyone
    that had this issue and managed to solve it. If you have a solution then
    submit the info so the rest of people know about it, too.
