Version 1.0 ----------- Finished: 28/09/06 Changes: -Improved some of the translations. -Corrected grammar and spelling. -Improved the formatting. -Added an ASCII art title -Big leap in version numbers here, mainly because I didn't want people to assume that it's only 10% complete, when actually it is complete and anything I add is a correction/bonus. -Improved the English names of the upgrades. Introduction | +-----------------+ This guide aims to translate all the parts of Sandlot's Chou Shoujuu Mecha MG which might be confusing to an English speaking player (or at least all the parts which confused me when I first played it). If you wish to read less specific information about the game I suggest you have a look at my review which is also up on GameFAQs. I had racked up almost 60 hours of play time when i started this guide and my percentage completed was still teetering at around 98%. I have to confess that I never expected this game to capture my interest as much as it has. Chou Shoujuu Mecha MG provides that elusive combination of simple concept and depth of play. However, it hasn't yet drawn the popular attention that I feel it deserves and so I thought I'd construct this guide to help English speakers understand the (relatively minor) parts of the game that can't be figured out without some knowledge of Japanese. This is the first FAQ I have publicly released. Considering that I don't speak a word of Japanese, you might think I've given myself a rather ambitious task. Thankfully a friend of mine worked through the translation with me. She's Japanese, but I don't think she has ever played a video game in her life. So translating the mecha/gaming vocabulary turned out to be a learning process for both of us. As I'm new to this I'd really appreciate your feedback. Whether that's in the form of criticism, corrections or suggestions. Just send me an email with 'SG Mecha MG' as the topic and I'll do my best to make any improvements that need to be done. This guide is encoded in Shift-JIS format. To view the Japanese text you should follow these steps: -> -> Japanese (Shift-JIS) or Auto Select If you don't have the Japanese language packs installed, then you'll need to find out how to do that on your Operating System. For Windows XP it is in the 'Regional and Language Options' section of the Control Panel. +---------------+ | II. Factories | +---------------+ When viewing your MGs in the selection screen (Press (Y) whilst in map mode) you'll notice that your mecha are organized into columns. These columns divide your MGs into different categories depending on which factory produced them. Here is a translation of the factory names: 00 - Old Fashioned Factory 01 - Wheel Factory 02 - Heavy Industry Factory 03 - Wooden Factory 04 - Explosive Factory 05 - Bow Factory 06 - Clockwork Factory 07 - Ninja Factory 08 - Bullet Factory 09 - Special Factory 10 - Ivory Factory +---------------+ | III. Upgrades | +---------------+ How to install upgrades: ------------------------ Press (Y) to get to mecha selection screen. Press (A) on MG you wish to upgrade This brings up a menu with the following options: -Pilot Marionette Gear -Upgrade Marionette Gear -Information -Exit menu Now choose Upgrade Marionette Gear and choose a slot to place the upgrade into. Different MGs have different numbers of upgrade slots from one to four. Choose the upgrade you wish to install and press (A). This brings up another menu. Choose the top option in this menu. Congratulations, you've upgraded your MG. Upgrades cannot be uninstalled/replaced without destroying the original upgrade. So choose where to put your rare upgrades carefully. MG Parts | +--------------+ Building MGs: ------------- As you progress through the game you will unlock parts which are named: 01_A, 01_B, 02_A, 02_B, 03_A ... 49_B, 50_A and 50_B These parts can be combined at the green star in the centre of the map (between NO. 1 and NO. 6). Choose the top option from the menu. The MG parts are stored in Column 01. If you have a pair of parts: E.G. 15_A & 15_B you can choose to have the mechanic create an MG from them for an amount of Gold displayed on the top screen. To do so select 15_A and press (A), and when prompted choose the top option from each of the menus. Part Locations: --------------- The locations of these parts are taken from a Japanese guide on the @Wiki website & all credit should go to them for this information. I have confirmed most of these, as I used this guide to unlock the parts myself. However, it's not as simple as you might expect. Simply completing the mission does not guarantee that you'll be awarded the part you need. There are some other factors which decide this. Now, I have to confess that I really don't know how it works for sure. But I believe that everytime you complete a mission on the required difficulty you have a percentage chance of unlocking the part. This percentage goes up or down depending on which MG you're using (actually, which factory the MG is from). So if you're having trouble try using MGs from other factories. Secrets & Tips | +-------------------+ Quick repair kits: ------------------ Japanese Name: 火龍水 The mecha in this game will break down after you致e used them for a fixed number of missions and will need to be repaired. This repair is free but it takes several successful missions before it is complete. This feature encourages you to experiment with the 100 or so MGs on offer, but can be tiresome if you rely on one powerful MG most of the time. A Quick repair kit is an item which instantly recovers all of your MGs to full stamina. Quick repair kits are single use items which are given as rewards in some of the more challenging missions. To use them go to the green star in the centre of the map (between NO. 1 and NO. 6) and choose the top option. The repair kits are stored in Column 02 and are the only items in that column. Locations of Quick repair kits: 12H, 22H, 26H, 26S, 61S, 92S, 93E & 93N Multiplayer mode: ----------------- This game does have a multiplayer mode, but it is not unlocked from the start. You must progress through the game until you unlock mission NO. 39 After watching a cut-scene you will be able to trade items by travelling to this point on the map. This game is locally wireless (not Online) and require both players to have a DS and the game. I haven稚 been able to test the multiplayer yet but I believe that some of the best items can only be unlocked through trading the treasures which you can collect in some levels. N.B. There are no multiplayer battles. The only multiplayer feature is item trading. Collecting Gold: ---------------- Collecting enough gold to buy all of the expensive MGs when you池e late in the game can be a very time consuming business. One tip I can suggest is equipping one of the faster Bow Factory MGs with two of your most powerful speed upgrades and racing the GPs (NO. 91-93) on Super Hard difficulty. I use GP1 because it is the shortest (and therefore quickest) race. They give a decent amount of Gold (5200G for GP1) and are very easy with the speed power-ups. NeoSeiffer says: "I used to go to for the level with the Combattler-V-like mech, in the easiest difficulty level. By picking a beetle-like mech you wouldn't be hit, and defeating it would be easy, getting 1200 money per battle." ooh44 says: "If you've cleared the game. I recommend Mission 113 (Hard). It's easy to destroy all Automan with 7 star+ Mech. A big thanks to the @wiki for providing the Japanese names of upgrades I hadn't unlocked and their locations and prices. Also for the locations of the MG parts. Thanks to people on the SG Mecha MG GameFAQs board for providing some of the info for this guide. Thanks to GrafiX, ed`, vidmoo & Hendo for being my irl gaming friends and occasional clanmates. Thanks to the Undernet crowd: {Gambit}, Lugnut, Kwyjibo, stip, gime & Road without those guys I wouldn't have even half the knowledge of games I've aquired over the years. R.I.P. LARKVOMIT Thanks to Jo & corn_mug for some good memories. Thanks to BethanyM & CjayC because it's not a real FAQ if you don't thank them Finally, thanks to the GameFAQs staff for hosting this guide. +----------+ | VII.
