To get a Bronze Medal head to the Green Market Qr. Now go to the Come Over Guest house and face as if you have just walked out of the door. Now look right, you will see an alley. Go down the alley and ignore the first turning left. once past that turning you'll be forced to turn right. now face right down the alley and look left. you will see a shop with a window, and a man stacking boxes. Now to the right of that window is a white opening. Head into the Vacant Lot and you notice a table in the middle. On the table are three boxes of toys and the Bronze Medal. They're yours for the taking. Now have your last look around that Vacant Lot because once you leave the white opening will become closed and you wont be able to re-enter. To get a Silver Medal you will need to have picked up the Bronze Medal. Collecting the Bronze Medal removes the barrier that stops you from going up to the 3rd floor in the Pine Arcade, Golden Qr. Now before you head there you must talk to two people, Izumi and Eileen. IZUMI: Can be found in the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden Qr. Go into the shop and make conversation, she will talk about her studies and befriend you. EILEEN: Can be found at Pigeon Park on the Workers Pier, she is to be found on the side of the fountain facing the ocean. She will offer Ryo a sparing match, but Ryo will turn her down. After you've talked to both Eileen and Izumi head to the 3rd floor at the Pine Arcade in the Golden Qr. you will be stopped by a man dressed in white (this man is found in one of the cut scenes involving Ren) He will ask whether you want to Participate or Watch. Select Participate and you will enter the small room only to find Eileen waiting for you. You have to beat her in a fight and then you will get the Silver Medal for your efforts. Now go back up to the 3rd Floor of Pine Arcade and select to Participate. You will have to fight Izumi, not someone you think would be a good fighter but infact she's one of the best in the game. She has some spectacular moves and combos as well as a mid fight QTE prompt. The QTE asks you to press X+B, Y+A. if she hits you with it you will have taken a lot of damage and end up lying on the floor for a while. But if you complete the QTE sequences you will reverse her throw and perform a throw of your own. She can do the QTE move more than once in battle so dont think after one go she wont use it again. Anyway, once you have beaten her she will tell you to come by the Tomato Convenience Store in Golden Qr and she will show you something interesting. Head there and you'll notice when you stand in front of her counter that you can press the X button, now from this point on you can go to the DUCK RACES! NOTE: this information is repeated in the Medals sections to make it Easier _______________________________________________________________________ EASY MONEY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ At the beginning of the game, after you lost your bag & your cash, Continue until the point whereby Joy gets you a job in Fortune Pier. Over there, after you got some cash, head to Warehouse 9 (gambling den) & Save, then gamble all your cash on the choice that'd give you the largest winning (doesn't matter if your lose because you already saved, if you lose, just reset & load the game & repeat the gambling part), & once you got $100, head on to Warehouse 10 (gambling den at the basement of the eatery whereby you have to go down a tunnel) over there do the same thing and save your game, then Keep Max betting on "Chow"/Shun Chi in Mandarin (don't be put off if you don't win for quite a number of times, simply reset, load game & repeat the process until you win) because eventually you'll be able to Max bet $500 which would give you a hefty $4000 when you win by betting on "Chow" & Winning twice on "Chow" would guarantee you do not need to worry on Cash for the whole of Shenmue 2 even if you go Capsule Spinning Crazy. You can bet even more money when you find the gambling places in Kowloon! She also holds some secrets in the game, if you talk to her LOCATING FANGMEI ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ If you do succeed and get all the books out before 12:00PM, save your game right as you finish your "service," then do a soft reset by pressing [ A+B+X+Y+Start ] at the same time, and reloading your game to get her to appear 'magically' in front of the Temple, eliminating the waiting for her walking time in tranist from desitnation to destination. Her Schedule before meeting Eileen (The start and end times varies, and is 15 minutes either way) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 11:15AM-12:00PM - Sweeps outside in front of Man Mo Temple, outside the gate. 12:00PM-12:30PM - Prays inside Man Mo Teple. 12:30PM-1:00PM - Talks to old lady across Man Mo Temple, right outside Godhead's Fortuneteller's. After talking to the lady out front, she may go back to sweeping in front of the temple from 1:00PM-2:00PM before heading out back of the temple. 1:00PM-5:00PM - Sweeps outside in back of Man Mo Temple, in front of the library. 5:00PM-6:00PM - Goes back to inside Man Mo Temple to pray. 6:00PM-8:00PM - Leaves Man Mo Temple and heads to Man Mo Greengrocer's to shop. She reaches there at 7:00PM. 8:00PM-11:30 - Heads to Da Yuan Apartments (Xiuying's room) and sweeps. THE EVENT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are only 3 requirements to trigger this event: 1) You must start airing out books no later than the 28th of February 2) Fangmei must call you "Ryo-san," instead of "Hazuki-san." 3) You must talk to Eileen. the main thing you have to do is have Fangmei talk to you. She is a virtual girl- almost like the real thing. Yep, she doesn't like you talking about other girs, she's jealous, she's emotionally unstable, and she wants you to LISTEN as well as give her ATTENTION. CALL ME "RYO-SAN" ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are two ways to have Fangmei call you "Ryo-San" 1. Talk to Fangmei, or rather, have Fangmei talk to you. The first chance you'll get to converse with her is after your first day of airing out books. You don't have to get all the books out. If you do get all the books out and finish before 11:00 AM, she'll be coming up the stairs at roughly 11:15 AM. If you can't wait for her to walk up those stairs to the temple, just save and soft-reset the Dreamcast on the controller (A+B+X+Y+Start) and resume your game, and she'll magically appear right outside the temple walls in front of the fortuneteller doing what she always does, sweeping. Initiate a conversation. After this first conversation that YOU INITIATED (started), she will begin initiating (starting) the conversation. To have her initiate the conversation, as you approach her, be in a walk. Do no hold down the run button. She will start conversations with responses to choose from, and others that you will not have to choose anything. After about 10, sometimes 9, of these conversations where you have to choose as response, she'll begin to refer to you as "Ryo-san." She does not repeat the ones where you can choose, but repeats the ones where you don't have a choice. These are interesting converstions and shed light on some other secrets of Shenmue II. One other note, you will only have 4 of these conversations with choices, in a day ... oh, and another thing, it is possible to make her mad, and she'll not talk to you. You can make her mad on the first day as she's only mad for one conversation. But the later conversations will make her mad for the whole day. 2. After translating the Wulinshu with Guixiang (the elderly lady of the Yan Tin Apartments), go to the Man Mo Bistro (Wise Men's Qr near the Man Mo Park) and do the Chawan Signs (the teacup arrangements) there. You'll get a message instructing you to wait back at the Come Over Get House. You will then get a phone call instructing you to go to the Man Mo Park where ultimately, you'll get mobbed by some thugs. If you lose this fight, you'll automatically be reffered to as "Ryo-san" no matter how much times you previously spoke to Fangmei. Remember, this talkes up a day, so your latest book airing start date is the 27th. Sidenote: You can win this battle, but you'll have to revert to the first method and talk to Fangmei until she calls you "Ryo-san." When and Where ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Frankly, you can start at any time before the 28th of February, but make sure to calculate the amount of days you need if you are going to do other day-wasting events. Again, if you plan on doing the "Man Mo Park Mob scene," you'll have to start no later than the 27th. February 27th is the earliest date when Fangmei starts going to the Complete Clothier on Three Blades Street, in Lucky Charm Qr to look at the dress outside the window; provided that you have already talked to Eileen (instructions below). She goes from February 27 to March 2. About Eileen... the earliest you can meet Eileen is after you get the Wulinshu in the library in back of the Man Mo Temple. She's back in Aberdeen, in Pigeon Park, in front of the fountain. Approach her and let her start the conversation. After this, do not go to the Blue Sky Garden and do the Chawan signs there. Fangmei will mysteriously disappear. The day after you meet Eileen, Fangmei can be found in the Man Mo Bistro having lunch with her. You can talk to them at the table if you wish (interesting stuff), although, again, you don't have to. They will leave at 1:00 PM. You can follow them to see exactly where they go. Again, if it's February 27-March 2, Fangmei will go the Complete Clothier, while Eileen goes to a shop selling vases, across Wise Men's Chemist, in Wise Men's Qr (If you did not meet Eileen at any time, Fangmei will not go to Complete Clothier). It is not necessary to talk to Eileen, but you'll get some useful information... like the actual date of Fangmei's Birthday- March 3rd. If it's earlier than the 27th, Fangmei will go back to the Man Mo Temple and work in back of the Temple. Eileen will go back to Aberdeen in Pigeon Park. If you have not talked to Eileen and keep passing days, Fangmei will be in front of Man Mo Temple working. Occasionally going in the temple. When she does go to Complete Clothier, if she's already calling you "Ryo-san," it will trigger "the" event. If not, just have her initiate more conversations until she does. One note, if you have not gone to the Dou Jiang Diner and Fangmei is at Complete Clothier and you cannot have 'her talk to you' because you keep on asking her about a restaurant, go to the Dou Jiang Diner and then go back directly to Fangmei and have 'her talk to you.' After the cut-scene, go into Complete Clothier and buy the present. BTW, it's $150. Make sure you've got the cash. After you got the present, just wait it out until March 3rd. You must not go past the point where you are looking for Ren; and you are instructed to go to Warehouse 8. Do not go to the warehouse if you want to trigger the birthday. When March 3rd comes, go back to the Da Yuan Apartments; go to Xiuyings room- room 207. Fangmei will be there where you'll give her the present. Wasting Time If you start airing out books earlier than the 27th or 28th, be prepared to kill of a lot of time. You can kill off time a number of ways. When you are doing the Chawan signs, you can repeat them by standing in front of the teacups again, and pressing X Button. Just don't do them at the Dou Jiang Diner as this will cancel the ability to do the signs. Or you can just pass time the old fashioned way- waiting. Go to the arcade and have a good time, or incorporate the Duck Races (you'll fight too) in between trying to trigger Fangmei's Birthday. THE FASTEST POSSIBLE WAY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Stop this detailed crap...How exactly do I you do this? Well, just follow these steps (although I do recommend you read this whole FAQ)... On Disc 1, after you go to the Man Mo Temple and request to one of the monks that you want to go inside, you will be prompted to "Negotiate' or 'Intrude.' If the date is before Feb. 27, choose 'Negotiate' 3 times, then 'Wait.' When going out of the Come Over Guest House, choose 'From yesterday.' Repeat this process until the 27th comes around. When it does reach the 27th, choose 'Intrude.' On 28th, you'll be airing out books. Getting all the books out is not necessary, but you will get some move scrolls. After you air them out, talk to Fangmei, and then have Fangmei initiate the other conversations. Have her talk to you (conversations with choosing replies) 4 times... the last one will be about Lan Di. Now go to Wise Men's Kung Fu, and then back to the Man Mo Temple. Head to the back, back to the library. Try to enter, and then choose 'wait.' On the 1st, after airing out the books, get the book in the back of the temple. After catching the leaves, do a quick save just in case you get Fangmei mad when you talk to her. Today, she'll not talk for the whole day if you do. Talk to Fangmei, again having the 4 conversations with responses to choose from. Your last conversation should be about Master Tao (Xiuying). Now head on to Aberdeen and talk to Eileen in front of the fountain in Pigeon Park. You can do the Duck Race Events if you wish from here (you must talk to Izumi first at the Tomato Mart in Golden Qr). Go back to Wise Men's Qr and head to Collect Antiques. You'll be told to see Guixiang in Yan Tin Apartments. See her there. On the 2nd, after you air out the books, you'll find Fangmei with Eileen in Man Mo Bistro. Check to see if they're there. They'll leave at 1:00 PM. Go to Dou Jiang Diner and do the Chawan sign. Do a quick save just in case you get Fangmei mad later. If it's not past 1:00, Fangmei will still be in Man Mo Bistro. Wait for her at Complete Clothier in Lucky Charm Qr (on Three Blades St), or you can see the route she takes and wait for her to leave. If you are walking with her to Complete Clothier, try to have her initiate more conversations while on the way, or you to it at Complete Clothier if you meet her there. Any one of the 4 conversations where she starts the conversation will trigger an event. Go inside Complete Clothier and buy what is in the window. Have $150 handy. Go back to Dou Jiang Diner and choose 'wait.' Kick some ass. Head to Da Yuan Apartments in Wise Men's Qr (Xiuying's room, #207 [I think]). You'll give her the present. Continue with the game until you are leaving town. When you are told to say goodbye to everyone, go back to Xiuying's room. Once you have fought him though, you will need to proceed in the game slightly for him to accept another challenge, or you can get a job and after the job you will be able to fight him again. OR acording to Jotaro you can enter Yan Tin apartments nearby and then come back out and retry at sparing with Jianming Wild Man - Once you can get access to Beverly Hills Worth, you can find this wild man in the centre of the map. If you win you will get $10 then win again and you'll get $20 all the way up to $50. You have 5 hits to perform on him and try and knock him down. Now here's the trick, participate in this event, but DONT hit him at all. Stand back and perform the moves you want to master and you will be given 3 minutes. Its a lot better here than fighting Jianming and you can still finish him off and get some money too! Go down the alley and ignore the first turning left. Once past that turning you'll be forced to turn right. Now face right down the alley and look left. You will see a shop with a window, and a man stacking boxes. Now to the right of that window is a white opening. Head into the Vacant Lot and you notice a table in the middle. On the table are three boxes of toys and the Bronze Medal. They're yours for the taking. Now have your last look around that Vacant Lot because once you leave the white opening will become closed and you wont be able to re-enter. OR alternatively you can go to the Lai Lai Eatery after you have chased Wong through there, and talk to the young waitress. Offer her some money as compensation for the trouble you have caused and she will give you the medal in return. Collecting the Bronze Medal removes the barrier that stops you from going up to the 3rd floor in the Pine Arcade, Golden Qr. Now before you head there you must talk to two people, Izumi and Eileen. IZUMI: Can be found in the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden Qr. Go into the shop and make conversation, she will talk about her studies and befriend you. After you've talked to both Eileen and Izumi head to the 3rd floor at the Pine Arcade in the Golden Qr. you will be stopped by a man dressed in white (this man is found in one of the cut scenes involving Ren) He will ask whether you want to Participate or Watch. Select Participate and you will enter the small room only to find Eileen waiting for you. You have to beat her in a fight and then you will get the Silver Medal for your efforts. GOLD MEDAL: To get the Gold Medal you will need the Bronze and Silver Medals already. If you have the Silver Medal then you must have beaten Eileen at the Arcade. Now go back up to the 3rd Floor of Pine Arcade and select to Participate. You will have to fight Izumi, not someone you think would be a good fighter but infact she's one of the best in the game. She has some spectacular moves and combos as well as a mid fight QTE prompt. The QTE asks you to press X+B, Y+A. if she hits you with it you will have taken a lot of damage and end up lying on the floor for a while. But if you complete the QTE sequences you will reverse her throw and perform a throw of your own. She can do the QTE move more than once in battle so don't think after one go she wont use it again. Anyway, once you have beaten her she will tell you to come by the Tomato Convenience Store in Golden Qr and she will show you something interesting. Head there and you'll notice when you stand in front of her counter that you can press the X button, now from this point on you can go to the DUCK RACES! A form of Gambling. Once you have seen it and had enough, you might like to get your own duck :) To get your own duck you need to go to the Tree in the back Yard (where you stack books) of Man Mo Temple in Scarlet Hills. Now press X in front of the tree and you can practice catching leaves. What you need to do is catch more than 1 leaf in a single catch about 3 times! so in 3 goes you should of caught 6 leaves. You don't have to do it consecutively though, take your time. Now when you have done it, you will hear the duck noise and a White Feather will drop with the leaves. Catch it (don't worry if you miss, just repeat the process) and you will get your own duck. But note that you will not be able to use the tree to catch leaves once you have started looking for Ren on disc 2. its best to try this one as early as possible. Take your Duck to the Tomato convenience Store and enter the DUCK RACE. Now you have to win the race with it and you will be rewarded with the Gold Medal.
