INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Kobyashi Naru' for the PC, a first-person text adventure game released by Mastertronic in 1987. It was also previously released on the C64, CPC and ZX Spectrum. The in-game title is 'Kobayashi Naru' which it often is referred to. There are Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The aim of the game is to find three items for the game keeper and bring them back to him. Each section of the game can be tackled individually and they do not require, nor allow items to be used from each part. Icons: `````` There are many icons to interact with the surroundings. Here they are in text form: SELECT EXAMINE GO_WEST GO_NORTH INVENTORY GO_SOUTH GO_EAST ANALYSE ACTIVATE PULL PUSH GET DROP THROW SWIM DIVE USE CUT ASCEND DESCEND JUMP QUIT LOAD'SAVE To interact in the world one needs to select the action and then the word from the description below which is illuminated. If the word is not in the description you cannot interact with it at this time. Sometimes the action will use your inventory. For example: ASCEND and the word TREE from the description will climb the tree. QUIT ends the current mission and the SAVE'LOAD feature enables you to continue your journey in more than one session. Should you not want to use the walkthrough, here are some basic tips: - Analyse and/or Examine everything. Often you cannot interact with an item before you have done so. - If you get stuck at a monster blocking your path, it's very likely you need to get something before this part. - The areas are quite small so explore each one well before moving on. Technical Note: There is a problem with throwing items on modern PCs. You will need to slow down your computer a lot in order to get the choice of what to throw at or otherwise it will fail. Either get a slow-down application or reduce the cycles in DosBox to around 100-200. Please don't ask me about technical details with these applications. Keep in mind that it may be out of date by the time you read this or perhaps not applicable to your game. =============================================================================== 03.) FULL WALKTHROUGH G0400 =============================================================================== KOBYASHI NARU: The final trial for those who would be one with the immortals. You stand in a closed chamber on the world of Ygor, a candidate to the Order. Sent here by the Overlord of All, you must complete the Naru in all its phases. Success will bring you the knowledge and power of those who have transcended the need for life itself. Failure results in extinction. Ahead of you there are three doors and behind you only a closed portal, off the planet. It will not open again until you have completed the three tasks of Kobyashi Naru and obtained the required objects from each. To help you, you have your wits and little else. The standard wrist terminal you're wearing may be able to analyse certain items and provide you with useful information, but its use is limited. A chime sounds and the Naru has begun ... Pod Found on a large tree and thrown at the krakod so it drops you behind the thorn barrier. Scimitax An axe lying around as you start this chapter. You need to throw it against the stem of a large tree so it drops a pod for you to collect. Wisdom: ``````` Pearl The object the gamesmaster accepts to fulfil this quest. Solance You start out with this and it is used to cut through the metal near the start, cut the silicoid's antennae, and finally cut open the klam which has trapped you. Understanding: `````````````` Lasalite A laser gun found inside the MegaUnit at the start of the game. It is used to shoot the computer so the droids stop hunting you.
