Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.1 Purpose of this document ----------------------------- To encourage more people to play Zombie Revenge and to achieve a higher level of play. 1.2 Storyline -------------- Basically, the government wants to use zombies and stuff for military use. And this other guy doesn't want them to. Here's the introductory text. [scene shows various weaponry and writing implements in the background.] GOVERNMENT TOP SECRET PLAN U.D.S. - It was a top secret plan to utilize the dead for military use, but just before it was ready for operation, all was thrown into darkness by someone unknown. - A year later, the city had become the home of the dead. - WHO? - WHY? - The only thing that's certain is that the world's fate is in the hands of 3 agents. [scene shows a close-up of a letter on a table in the background.] - The End always comes quickly, doesn't it? - But now, things are perfect. Soon it will be over. - I'll go after I finish playing with my friends. - Please wait for me, Mom and Dad. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Characters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.1 Stick Breitling -------------------- Stick Breitling is your stock American hero type. He is also the focus of the storyline, and as befits the main character, possessed a well-rounded array of abilities. He is ideal for beginners to use, since his moves are fast and have little recovery time. In terms of strength, he is more powerful than Linda, but less powerful than Busujima. 2.2 Linda Rotta ---------------- Linda Rotta seems to harbor aspirations towards being a Lara Croft clone. She has the most... interesting moves out of all the characters available to you, and is a pleasure to watch. Unfortunately, she seems to be considerably weaker than the other two characters, and so may not be an ideal choice for beginners. 2.3 Rikiya Busujima -------------------- Rikiya Busujima is this Japanese kinda guy. As his name implies, all his attacks are really powerful; even his gun is more powerful than the other characters'. However, he is slightly slower with his attacks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.1 Basic Controls ------------------- There are three buttons and a joystick. Button 'G' : Guard Button 'P' : Punch Button 'S' : Shoot Obviously, pressing the buttons without any joystick motions will do guard, punch, and shoot, respectively. However, there are more moves than this: Move joystick in any direction (so that your character is walking), and then press 'G'. This will do a dash. During the dash, press 'P'. This will do the dash attack, which knocks down normal zombies. Press 'G' and 'P' together. This will do a roll, which causes slight damage, can hit fallen zombies, and is a good evasive maneuver. However, after two consecutive rolls, the third roll will be much slower and will not hit monsters. Press 'G' and 'S' together. This will do a back attack (i.e. your character will attack in the opposite direction to the one he/she is facing). Useful for when zombies appear behind you. Press all three buttons together. This will do a 360 degree attack, which knocks down all zombies in your immediate vicinity. However, like other moves of this sort, it will take a bit of your life energy to execute. Press and hold the 'S' button. This will execute a powered up pistol shot, which causes more damage, has a fairly wide blast radius, and knocks down. It has some startup, though, and will take 5 bullets. Press 'P' or 'S' as you are being attacked. You will fall back and shoot several shots in the direction from which the attack came. This can help you get some breathing space if the attacks are too hard to deal with. Press 'P' or 'S' as you guard an attack. This will execute a 'guard-break' sort of counter, which does little damage but will give you some breathing space. Press 'P' or 'S' as you are getting up. This does a recovery attack, and you will come up off the ground immediately with some sort of attacking maneuver. Press and hold the 'P' button. This will execute a charged up physical attack which varies from character to character. Busujima will do a flame burst type attack which looks nice but is of limited usefulness, Linda will do a very quick and useful dashing 2 hit attack, and Stick will do a launching double kick, which can be used to juggle zombies in the air. 3.2 Throws/Holds ----------------- In addition to these, each character has a variety of throws. Most of these throws look deliciously satisfying to perform, and some even have uses in a practical fight. All hold are started by hitting a zombie with the 'P' button, and then holding down the button for around a second, then executing a further set of button presses. Stick Breitling --------------- press S, S. This does a series of kicks to the midsection and face. holding the joystick neutral, press P, P. 3 powerful punches to the chest. holding the joystick towards the zombie, press P repeatedly. A shoulder charge, knocking the zombie to the ground, followed by, um, the follow-up attack. ^_^;; This is my personal favourite... it simply looks so painful. Linda Rotta ----------- press P, P. Linda knocks the zombie to the ground, runs towards the zombie, then leaps off a sensitive area before landing butt-first on the zombie's face. Looks really nice. holding the joystick towards the zombie, press S, S. Linda jumps into the air, and uses the zombie's face as a trampoline. This looks beautiful as well. holding the joystick neutral, press S, S. She throws the zombie around like a rag doll before giving it a knee in the chest and letting go. Rikiya Busujima --------------- press P. Busujima grabs the zombie and flip-throws him to the other side. This move is quick to come out and does decent damage. press S (?). The zombie gets caught in a leg hold. Keep pressing S, or else the zombie can reverse the hold and take life off you instead. holding the joystick towards the zombie, press S repeatedly. He fills the zombie with energy from his hand, causing the zombie to eventually explode from inside out. 3.3 Combination Attacks ------------------------ These chains are standard for this type of game. Each character has two of these chains. Stick Breitling --------------- press P, P, P, P, P. This does four jabs, and then a final punch which knocks down. Most of the damage comes in the later punches, so most of the time you should finish this chain. Cannot be maneuvered to a great extent so you are basically stuck in attacking the same direction you started in. After this chain there is a way to add on a few (5 or 6) additional punches. It seems to come out randomly for me and I do not know the way to do it. [incomplete] press P, P, S. Two jab punches, and then an overhead kick type move. This does approximately the same damage as the other chain, but the kick is a little slower to come out. I have not investigated how much the final kick can turn, but I think this chain is for style points only. Linda Rotta ----------- press P, P, P. Linda does three undercut type punches. It is very maneuverable and you can attack in almost any direction with the second and third punches, so it is best for when there are zombies coming from several directions. The last punch does not knock down. hold the joystick in a direction and press P, P, P. This does a similar attack to the other P, P, P chain, except that for the last hit Linda jumps into the air with an uppercut. This knocks down and does more damage, but is a but slower to recover. It is similarly highly maneuverable. press P, S, P, P. Linda does a punch, and then a combination of kicks. This does not knock down and does decent damage. However, it is not as agile as the other chains and is limited to one direction only, so you can only hit one zombie at a time with this. Rikiya Busujima --------------- press P, P, P, P. Busujima does two punches, and then two swipes which have a metallic swishing sound. All four attacks do high damage, especially the first two punches, and the last attack knocks down. There is lag before the second punch comes out. Although this chain is not maneuverable much, the last two swipes, because of their attacking method, swipe in a large arc, so any zombies in around a 180 degree range from your attack will be caught by it. If you want to cause a lot of damage in the smallest amount of time to a zombie, I recomment that you press P, P, P, then wait for a bit, then press P, P, P again. This will do the first three damaging hits, but will not knock the zombie down, leaving it open for more attacks. There is a way to follow up this attack with a spinning type move where Busujima spins himself holding his (pistol?) out, cutting any zombies that are nearby. I do not as of the moment know how to perform this move consistently. [incomplete] press P, S, S, S. He does three punches, followed by a charge up and a backhand punch with red flames, setting the zombie on fire. Although this is very damaging, the lag on the final flaming punch is too much to use in a real situation. Nevertheless, it looks very impressive and is worth style points. 3.4 Weapons ------------ There are more than 12 different weapons in the game; some of them are more plentiful and easier to find than others. Note that any area-effect weapons such as grenades or land mines will never hurt yourself or your playing partner. Shotgun - 6 shells, high damage, medium blast radius. Machine gun - 40 bullets. Pressing the 'S' button will shoot 5 bullets at a target, and the 'P' button will spray the area with 10 bullets in a wide arc. Grenade - Area-effect weapons with high damage. Pipe - A hand to hand weapon. You hit a much wider area than you would for a normal punch. Dual handguns - 40 bullets. Similar to a machine gun. Axe - Hand to hand, one use only. Will embed itself into a zombie's skull. Hatchet - Thrown weapon. Does not do much damage, usually it's not worth it to pick one up. Land mine - Area-effect weapon. Once primed, it will explode after 3 seconds or so. In addition to these, there are also really fun weapons like the flamethrower, stun gun, gasoline, cannon shot, drill, guitar, chain gun, or laser gun. I'll leave it to you to figure out what these weapons do. Hint: use the 'S' button to attack with the drill, not the 'P' button. Also, you cannot dash while wielding some of the heavier weapons. 3.5 Miscellaneous ------------------ Poison meter - have you noticed that whenever you get hit by any attack, a swirling purple mist appears over your lifebar? This is poison, and too much of it is bad for you because it slows your character down. It will slowly decrease by itself, or you can take an antidote to remove it quickly. Revesing holds - sometimes, a zombie that is lying on the floor will grab your character's foot. You will then see the red 'press me!' button encouraging you to mash the buttons. You should do so; if you press the buttons fast enough, your character will shake off the zombie's hold and step on its face a few times. Otherwise the zombie will drag you to the floor, lie on top of you and smother/bite you. Gun aiming - if you face any monster and wait a while, the aiming sights which lock onto the monster will slowly turn red. This indicates that the bullet will do much more damage than normal. You should always, always try to aim before you shoot, because it does more damage than a rapid volley of untargetted bullets. It also uses much less ammunition. Bullets - your gun needs bullets. Normally, each zombie you kill will drop at least one magazine, and more magazines are scattered around the place. If you use your ammunition sensibly the issue of finding enough bullets should never come up. Your gun can hold 10 bullets. Once your gun is empty, your character will take a second to reload. During this time, he/she is totally vulnerable to attacks. Antidote - antidotes look like a green plant. They will remove you from any effects of poison. Life up - this will give you back life. The amount can range from 10% to full life, this depends on where you found the life up. Elixir - this gives you effectively an extra life. If you die, you will come right back will full health. 3.6 Super Combos ---------------- Ah! Finally due to a Kind Reader's input, the method for doing super combos (extended attacks from a standard combo chain) has been found. This section courtesy of the great 'R-Jay'. To perform these super combos you must have a high poison level (your character's skin will be dark red). Unfortunately this means you will have to get hit. A shotgun bullet usually does the trick (ho-ho). Stick Breitling --------------- press P rapidly. He will perform his standard five hit combo and then add some mid-section punches and a knockdown punch (10 hits total). press P, P, S. He will perform his two punches and kick combo and then he will add his multi-kick combo on the end (the same one you can do when you grab your opponent). 10 hits total. Rikiya Busujima --------------- press P rapidly. He will perform the standard combo and then spin into his opponent (13 to 14 hits). press P, S, S, S. He will do the normal combo but the last big punch causes extreme damage and engulfs the zombie in flames (similar to his charge-up move). 4 Hits. Linda Rotta ----------- hold forward, press P, P, P. She will add a series of punches on the end of her standard combo which, if all connect, knocks them down. 7 hits. press P, P, P rapidly. She will do a super combo similar to the one above. 7 hits. Note: There is no super combo for her P, S, P, P chain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Strategy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.1 General Strategy --------------------- When you first play the game, be prepared to lose very quickly. It takes a few games before you learn how the game mechanics work; before that, you may complain that the controls are unresponsive. The first thing you will learn is to be patient and wait for your gun to fully lock on before shooting a zombie. This will save you a lot of bullets and in fact does more damage. After you have lost half of your life to an unfortunate shotgun blast or machine gun burst, you will realise that the zombies have different priorities. Especially important is that you should disarm any zombies which happen to have weapons (the ones in the red suit). Dashing, and the dash attack is also incredibly useful. Once you learn how to dash effectively, you will be able to avoid many of the normal zombies' attacks. Dashing also plays a large part in defeating most of the bosses. The dash attack has one great ability: it will knock down and disarm monsters, even though it does not do much damage. This means that it is ideal for getting some breathing space by temporarily disabling a few zombies so that you can concentrate on a particular zombie. It bears saying that a wounded, almost-dead zombie will attack just as effectively as a new, healthy zombie. With this in mind, it makes sense to concentrate your attacks on one zombie at a time, as this will relieve much of the pressure. One nice trick which many people do is, after they have cleared an area of all enemies, they will empty their gun of all bullets so they have a fully loaded gun for the next area. This saves them the hassle of having to reload in the middle of a fight, which can be quite dangerous. I hate to say this, but most of the holds/throws are useless in a fight. But since they are beautiful eye candy, I do them when it's safe. =) When is it safe to show off with a throw? The answer is, when there is only one zombie left in a particular area. When this pleasant situation occurs, you can take your time and slowly torture the remaining zombie with any attacks you can think of. =) The exception to this is Busujima's 'P' throw which is a quick throw to the ground. This throw has almost no recovery time and switches your direction as well, which can be quite useful in some tactical situations. When you have played more, you will find that the roll has its uses. It is a great move to evade attacks, since it will actually hit zombies and move you out of the way. Stick seems to be the most powerful character, as his moves take off a lot of damage. They are slower than normal, but this can be easily compensated for. Stick is the most balanced character, with average speed and damage. Linda is weak, and slow; in fact her only advantage seems to be that her gun fires really quickly. Oh, and she's nice to look at. 4.2 Two-player Strategy ------------------------ [This walkthrough section (6.9) courtesy of R-Jay] - Keep relatively close together. Staying at different ends of the play area and trying to run on will restrict you and your partner's movements. - Decide in advance which zombies to take out. - Two-player mode makes using big weapons much safer as long as one of you distracts the attention of the enemy. - Some dash-attacks, throws, machine gun and shotgun fire will affect your partner. There's no damage but could put them in a tricky situation. - When one of you is killed and you have given up your chance to continue, your dead character will turn green and come back as a zombie to attack your partner. It has a high life-bar but is easy to dispatch. However when you die and don't wish to continue, press the keys to make the continue countdown run faster. This is because your partners movements are restricted during the countdown, but unrestricted when your dead character turns to a zombie. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Monsters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The normal monsters have different threat ratings; I have therefore classified them into three different groups - low priority (no threat, easy to kill), medium priority (can be dangerous if left alone), and high priority (kill as soon as possible). Low Priority Monsters --------------------- Baseball guys - found on the lower levels. Their attack method is to either jump up into the air and come down with a swinging punch, or a simply standing punch. They are easy to kill and knock down and you should not get hit by them. Weary zombie - the zombies that are dressed in rags. They only have a single method of attack, which is a simple claw swipe. Very easy to avoid, even when they appear in groups. Crawling zombies - found in the sewers. They will move forward on all fours, or jump into the air. They are really easy to kill, however, since they have to go upright before they can attack. Sewer guys - found, surprisingly enough, in the sewage plant. These are slightly more dangerous than a typical zombie because they can attack two or three times in a row. However, you should be safe if you remember that any time you are attacked, you should press buttons continuously in order to retaliate. Fat chemical plant guy - They are not threatening, although they have a large life bar. Deal with these people after you have eliminated any other threats. Medium Priority Monsters ------------------------ Red coat guys - found throughout. If they are unarmed, their sole attack is a simple swipe. However, they are dangerous in that they are able to pick up machine guns or shot guns and use it against you. It is possible to recognise when one of these people will fire, because they will carefully aim at you and load the gun before firing, this gives you ample time to attack them. They can be dangerous if three or four of them appear at a time, all armed. Projectile guy - This zombie's sole attack is to spit a purplish goo at you. While not threatening if you are aware that they are going to attack, they can manage to damage you if you are occupied with another monster. Therefore, try to disable these people before you deal with the regular guys. Found in the sewers, Mount Sacrifice, and the entrance to the House of the Dead. Chemical plant worker guy - Fight them in the same way as you would fight a red coat, remembering that they can use weapons. They are slightly more dangerous when unarmed because they can do a 2-hit attack. High Priority Monsters ---------------------- Hatchet monsters - these people are really annoying. They have several attacks. In one attack, they jump into the air, and then spin towards you with the hatched. They can also lunge towards you with the hatchet, and both these attacks are fast. Finally they can throw their hatchet at you, although this is a less effective means of attack. Their weakness is that they are almost helpless without their hatchet. With this in mind, try to prevent them from picking up a hatchet and they should be easier to kill. Bats - kill these as soon as you can. They do not have much energy, and if left alive, will annoy you by diving at you during inopportune moments. Laser gun/knife guy - Thes guys are dangerous. They have a lunging attack, but more importantly, a laser projectile attack that homes in on you. Their gun/dagger is a part of their arm, and so it cannot be knocked off them, making them dangerous when they appear in groups, since their projectile is very annoying to deal with. Don't give them a chance to fire their weapon, and keep them pressured as far as possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Map Guide/Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [The following walkthrough is for a one player game only. The two player version will be identical in most parts, but exceptions will be listed below.] 6.1 Area 1 - Woodside City --------------------------- Path: Main area* -> Indoors -> Main area* -> Boss zone Boss: Scrap Metal Thingy Secrets: There is a secret room in the main area. You start off in this area coming out from a van-type thing (Caravan? Wagon? I couldn't tell.) The enemies arrive in two waves; first wave consists of four of the normal zombies, and the second wave consists of two normal zombies and two red coat guys. The crate in the middle of the area contains a machine gun, and there will be black oil slicks near the shutters. These oil slicks will ignite when a shotgun is fired, and the flames can cause minor damage. The first wave is extremely easy to deal with. Your gun will automatically lock on to the zombies; just fire when the sights turn red. You can kill all four zombies with one shot each, standing in place. When all four zombies are dead, the second wave will come. The second wave is a bit more challenging in that, if you are asleep at the controls, you may let one of the red coat guys get off a shot. Just be sure to dash attack them the moment they get their hands on a weapon, and you should be alright. Then, grab a machine gun and open the shutters. Once you are indoors, you will see a cowering girl and two zombies. Shoot the two zombies with your machine gun. After they are both dead, or if you run too far into the screen, two red coat guys with a shotgun each and a normal zombie will fall from the top of the screen. Simply use the same tactics to deal with them, and then the girl will give you a floppy disk. Pull the shutter to go outside again. If at any time during this, you have managed to lose any life at all, there is a door to the left of the shutter. Open this door and there will be a single zombie inside, along with several crates. If you kill the zombie and punch the crates several times, a life up will fall down (around 10% health). Then, pick up a shotgun and go to the right of the screen, as it's time for the boss - Metal Scrap Thingy (or whatever its name is). This boss is surprisingly difficult if you are not familiar with the concept of guarding attacks. As soon as you can move, loose off four shotgun shells into the monster (you will automatically be aimed at it). Then, run away, shooting the two zombies nearby with a shell each. The boss should be at half life now. It's easy to beat the boss now. Just shoot at it from long range, preferably with aimed shots. When you see it glow red, this means it will attack. Just block, and then continue to shoot it, repeating the pattern. If the monster grabs you, mash the buttons and you will kick it in the face several times while taking next to no damage yourself. You can also throw the monster by press and holding 'P', as you would to throw a normal zombie. If you do this, and then mash the buttons, you will pull a metal pipe right out of the zombie. Don't use the pipe to attack, though, since you will get knocked over. After you have killed the monster, there are two boxes - one on the mound where the monster came from (you have to look carefully when you are fighting, because after you win, the camera angle obscures the view), and one right next to the exit. Use the roll to demolish the crate on the mound to get a life up (around 15%). Punch the other box in order to get a grenade, which isn't needed but can be fun to use for the next area. 6.2 Area 2 - Edward Street --------------------------- Path: Edward Street -> Indoors -> Edward Street -> Above Manhole No boss No secret areas You enter from the top of the screen to meet four normal zombies. If you have brought the grenade from the area before, it's easy - just throw the grenade and watch all four zombies vaporise. It you haven't, then it's time to use hit-and-run tactics on the four zombies. After you have finished these four, a final zombie will drop down. You can deal with this zombie however you wish. If you hit or shoot the garbage cans they will release bullets. The night light will make your playing screen brighter. Open the door to make your way inside, where you will find a zombie holding a cloth, and another one right next to you. They are unarmed, so just be careful here and you should come to no harm. If you hit the metal cabinet, a pipe will come out, although I have not found a use for it yet. After both of the zombies have died, go to the computer and press any button. After the blurb has passed, you will see a choice of three cards; a flame, a lightning, and a ???. They will only affect the game at the very final boss (and may give different endings?). Choose any of them, and then go outside again. Then walk south. Three bats will fly out from the manhole cover. I stress that you must shoot these down as soon as possible, preferably before any other zombies appear. They can be very annoying if allowed to live, since their attack will make you drop your weapon. Five or six zombies will then appear, two of them armed with machine guns. However, since one of the armed zombies appears behind you, I suggest that you disarm him quickly and pick up his machine gun. Having done this, you can seriously damage most of the zombies without putting yourself in much danger. Make sure that you are not surrounded, and shoot from a safe place, and you should have no problems here. If you are ever surrounded, remember that the roll is better for getting you out of trouble than running away, since you can be hit as you run. Don't take too long here, especially on two player mode, since the time limit is quite strict. 6.3 Area 3 - Industrial Sewage Plant ------------------------------------- Path: Sewer area 1 -> Sewer area 2* -> Sewer area 3** -> Sub-boss -> Sewer area 4 -> Boss zone Sub-boss: Two Plant-men Boss: Electric Predator Secrets: One secret room in sewer area 2, two secret rooms in sewer area 3. As you come in from above, move forward a bit, staying on the area above the sewer waters. Use aimed shots to pick off zombies which attempt to clamber up onto your area. Also shoot the crawling monster which comes from the top of the screen to you. Notice the big industrial fan to your left? There's a partly hidden box inside it. Shoot the box and you will get three bullets and a life up (around 15-20% health replenishment). Then, get into the water and slowly move up. As soon as you have the mutated flower in your sight, aim and shoot, and repeat for the other flower further down. Then continue into the screen to go to the next area. As soon as you start, there will be a crouched zombie right in front of you. Move to the right ASAP and shoot the zombie. If you are too slow, the laser shot from the wall will nick you for a bit of damage. Don't proceed to the wooden crate, instead wait patiently. When the timer goes to around 40, two zombies will rise out of the water. Aim and shoot these, then move cautiously forward, looking out for a zombie on a ledge. There are two of these, and they will shoot projectiles at you. Take them out one by one with aimed shots, and similarly shoot the flower. The wooden crate is interesting. There are three possible things it can contain: either a flying bat, three bullets, or a life up. If you shoot the crate, you will mostly get a flying bat; most other times you will get bullets. In order to get the life up from the crate, I have found that it is useful to ensure that your gun is fully loaded, then, stand next to it and give it a single punch. This gives a life up for around 20% healing. To the north, you may notice a boarded up door. Bash down the wooden plastering and open the door to enter a secret room. This secret room contains one zombie, easily killed, and three destructible crates. They contain bullets, two dual handguns, a machine gun, and a shotgun. Normally, I get the machine gun. After that, exit the room and continue to the next area. This area is more dangerous than the previous too, and you may be killed here if you are inexperienced. This is mainly due to the fact that at random times, large stone blocks will drop from the ceiling, and they are extremely damaging. They will give warning before they drop in the form of a black shadow, so just look out for this, don't do any laggy moves, and you should be okay. As you enter from the top of the screen, two crawling zombies will come towards you. Dispose of them, and then shoot the brown zombie (which has quite a large lifebar). Proceed down cautiously, watching out for rocks. There are two projectile shooting zombies on both sides of the sewer; take care of these separately by shooting them. Then shoot the flower near the bottom of the screen. Before continuing down, note that there are two secret rooms. One is at the top left area of the map, and the other is at the bottom right; they are both doors that can be opened by pressing any button. The top left secret room contains two life ups (around 50% health total) and five zombies, and the bottom right room contains a crate with a life up (around 15% health), a zombie, and a laser emplacement. Normally I do not enter the room with the five zombies. Unless you are skilled, it is easy to lose more life here than you would gain, because five zombies are quite hard to handle. However, the room with the single zombie is quite useful for health; just make sure that you avoid the laser shot and you will be fine. When you enter the next area you will encounter the sub-boss, which is two plant-like zombies. This is an especially annoying boss to fight with one player, because one zombie tends to attack you while you are engaged in fighting the other. I recommend that you concentrate your efforts on one monster at a time. Aim to kill it as quickly as possible, either by aimed shots or quick close attacks (Rikiya Busujima's PPP, pause, PPP pattern is useful). Don't do any laggy moves or you will probably be attacked. When a zombie glows red, this means that it is ready to attack. As it glows red/white, block, since an attack is imminent. The zombies have only three attacks: a single-cannon projectile shot, a dual-cannon projectile shot, and a stomp that causes rocks to fall from the screen. The single- and dual- cannon are basically identical, except that the dual-shot does twice as much damage. Just block and return to attacking again. If you see a monster stomp, the rocks will always land near your area. This is the reason for not doing laggy attacks, since you will want to run as soon as you see rocks falling. If you avoid the rocks, these monsters should be no problem. Watch out for the two lasers at the extreme ends of the zone, although you will probably not be hit if you are playing aggressively. After one boss is defeated, the other boss becomes extremely easy to conquer. Then proceed to the next zone. Here, as you enter the screen, clamber onto the right hand side ledge. Then slowly pick off the zombies with single shots. There are four at first, and when these are killed, five more will appear. Just be careful not to let them get too close to you, and also don't wander too far into the screen - if you do, a laser may shoot you (although most of the time it shoots the zombies by mistake). Then enter the hole to proceed to the boss. This boss is easier to fight than the two plant-men. Deal with the two crawling monsters any way you like (either shoot them or run around and let the big boss electrocute them). Then, shoot the boss with aimed shots. This will prevent him from exercising any of his powers. When you have shot him a few times, he will teleport. Run away from the place in which he appears, and then look for what he is going to do. He has four main attacks that you should worry about. His first, and most harmless is 'bowling' a bolt of electricity across the ground towards you. If he does this, just run away and you should be fine. His second attack is to charge up electricity in his hands and then shock the area immediately in front of him. Although this takes the most life of all his attacks, it can be easily avoided by running away. He can also lunge towards you with a dashing claw swipe, if he does this, just block and continue shooting. His most annoying attack is a projection of electricity all around him, bolt of electricity shoot out horizontally from his body. Try to recognise the start-up of this move, as you cannot run away from it and will have to block. These are the only patterns that the boss has. Use these tactics, and eventually the boss will die, then you can proceed to the next area. 6.4 Area 4 - Chemical Plant ---------------------------- Path: Lift entrance -> Flamethrower area -> Office entrance -> Boss zone -> Surviving zombies Boss: Hydra-type thing No secret areas You are first faced with two unarmed zombies, and a fatter zombie. Knock down the fat zombie and kill the two unarmed zombies quickly, as they have quite annoying attacks. By this time, two armed zombies should drop in from the top of the screen. Deal with them (the fat zombie is slow and can also be easily knocked down), leaving the fat zombie for last. Then shoot the two crates at the top of the screen, which will reveal a land mine, a gasoline tank, a stungun, and a life up (20%). Take the land mine and proceed to the next area. As soon as you enter this area, you will get your first taste of how annoying the hatchet guys can be. But you won't have to worry about that just yet. Prime the land mine (by pressing P) as you enter, and then just guard until the land mine blows up. The two hatchet guys should blow up too. =) Next, run into the screen and head directly for the flamethrower. Several guys will drop in from the top of the screen (one unarmed, two armed, and a fat zombie). Have fun! =) If your ammunition runs out just pick up a machine gun and spray the area with bullets. Then carry on to the next zone (you can't bring your weapon with you). After the cut scene. there will be two waves of zombies. Resist the temptation to get the drill, because it will slow you down severely. Shoot the first three unarmed zombies or deal with them any way you like, and then four zombies will drop down from the ceiling, two of them armed. They are not much of a threat if you remember to knock down any armed zombies. When there are one or two of them left, you may decide to pick up the drill and drill them with it. Press 'S' while close... it looks really messy. =) Then go to the boss area; you can't bring any weapons with you here, either. This boss looks really fearsome, and indeed if you try to stay away and shoot, him, you will die quickly. He has two long range attacks; a multiple projectile squirt which can be blocked, but is quick; and a flamethrower type move which is unblockable. He will have to charge up for the flamethrower and you can see this as he sucks air in. He will also lay smaller crawly things which can temporarily disable you by jumping on your face. He also has a swipe when in close, which can be easily blocked as he glows red before he attacks. Finally, when he lands from a jump, if he happens to land on top of you, you will take major damage. In spite of all this, however, he is actually very easy to kill. You have to be brave and willing to get in close. While in close, he will be unable to use his projectile squirt and flamethrower, and in fact does only three things: laying crawly things, swiping, or jumping away. If he jumps away, easy - just dash after him and continue to pound him with physical attacks. If he lays crawly things, don't worry, as for some reason they will not attack you while you are in close. Just block if he does the claw swipe. He is especially vulnerable to physical attack and his death will be very quick. Then, you are assigned to wipe out the remaining zombies. Just use aimed shots, and don't let the zombies get too close. Watch out because the fourth zombie that appears is behind you, so don't be deceived by that. 6.5 Area 5 - South Union Railway --------------------------------- Path: Train carriage 1* -> Carriage 2** -> Carriage 3* -> Sub-boss -> Brake lever Sub-boss: Hangedman-type thing Secrets: One secret room in train carriage 1, two secret rooms in train carriage 2, one secret room in train carriage 3. The first carriage is a pain. However, hatchet guys are vulnerable to aimed shots. Normally one shot is enough to kill them. Watch out for their attacks, but remember that all of them can be blocked. Try not to get caught in the middle of a bunch of them. You may wish to go down into the train (press any key while at the middle right hand side of the screen, and you will clamber down). Here, you will find four red coat guys, two of them armed, and a life up (100%). Kill them normally by knocking them down and attacking them (this is made easier by the confined space of the train), and then you can pick up a machine gun which may be more effective against the hatchet men. Don't pick up a hatchet as they are slow and cause very little damage. The next carriage is easier; there are only normal zombies here. Watch out that you don't stand in the middle of the train, because overhead lights from the tunnel occasionally come through which can cause damage to you. You will be safe if you stay at the sides. After killing the zombies, you may want to enter both of the secret rooms here. One is in the bottom right hand corner, and the other is at the top left hand side. The one in the right hand corner contains three normal zombies, an axe, and a life up. It is simple to kill the zombie and get the life up - the axe is not really useful in any situation. The one at the left contains a lot of life ups (around 10 separate life up boxes). It also contains five zombies, two of them hatchet men and two armed zombies, and so it may be more trouble than it is worth if you already have full or nearly full life. However you may wish to enter this area in order to procure a machine gun for the next carriage. The next area is also troublesome. It contains two red coat guys, one of them armed, and two hatchet guys (with more life this time). I have found it effective to concentrate on shooting the hatchet men with aimed shots, while knocking down whichever zombie has the machine gun. This is more effective than trying to use the machine gun. Try to kill the hatchet guys as quickly as possible, and then the two remaining zombies should pose no problem. There is a secret room here in the top right hand corner, which contains two armed zombies, two life ups, and dynamite all around the area. It is easy to shoot the zombies, and the dynamite packs can also be shot, which produce impressive explosions (I do not know whether they can damage you or not, I have better things to do than to possibly injure myself). The next carriage is the sub-boss. This sub-boss can be easily shot down with either unaimed or aimed shots, but surprisingly machine guns are ineffective against it. It has three attacks; a red projectile, a short ranged grab type move, and a 'swooping' attack (where the camera angle changes). The red projectile startup can be easily seen and blocked, as it will hover for a while before shooting. The swooping attack can also be blocked. To escape the swooping attack, wait until it is almost on top of you and about to grab you, and then use the roll. You will escape unharmed. It can only be shot effectively while he is in your target sights. Don't bother firing random shots at it while it is far away. The final area is easy. You have to pull the brake level until the speed reaches zero. Unarmed zombies drop, three at a time, from the top of the screen. The thing about these zombies is that they all have very little life and can be killed by a single half-aimed shot. When you see zombies drop from the top of the screen, take the time to quickly shoot them with a bullet each, and then go back to pulling the brake. Repeat until the speed reaches zero, upon which you will have finished this area. 6.6 Area 6 - Cassandra ----------------------- Path: Train depot -> Cavern entrance -> Boss zone Boss: Big head with slimy green stuff No secret areas As you enter this area, you will find three unarmed fat zombies. They pose no threat. However, in the crate right behind you there is a guitar, which basically functions like a dual machine gun. You may want to use this against the monsters as it looks really impressive. Also at the bottom of the screen, a crate there contains a machine gun. You will not need this for either this area or the next area, however. Some people prefer to save the guitar for the next zone, but my strategy calls for your character to be weaponless as you enter. The next area is extremely hard and I have yet to see someone get past it unscathed. It contains two hatchet men, two armed zombies, and two unarmed zombies (the kind which attacks you quickly). However, at the bottom middle area of the screen there is a crate which contains a 'cannon shot'. This is a really powerful area of effect weapon which, if you can fire it, will decimate the zombies. In the bottom right hand corner, a crate contains a grenade, which, if thrown, will also annihilate all the zombies. Note that if you try to use the machine gun or guitar from the previous area, you are guaranteed to have your weapon knocked out of your hand, as there are simply too many zombies to handle. So, no big deal, you say, since all you need to do is to fire a cannon shot or loose off a grenade. This is unfortunatly the hard part. It takes time to break the crate, wait for the grenade to fall to the ground, pick up the grenade, and then wind up and throw it. More than likely you will be hit before, and once you are hit it is very hard to recover since the attacks come so quickly. My advice would be to go for the grenade, since it is marginally faster to throw, and just throw it immediately once you pick it up without waiting to aim or anything. This is the reason why you should not bring a weapon here, since you cannot afford the extra time taken to discard your weapon. If you manage to get past, then you will enter the boss area. This boss occupies the whole room, but the only area you can attack is its head. Physical attacks do not work well even when his head is bent down as he will retract his head quickly, therefore only use aimed shots. The machine gun which drops down halfway through is also not ideal as it is inconvenient to handle. This boss has 4 attacks. A gun can appear in his mouth, which will shoot a red laser at you. He can spit out a torrent of green fluid from his mouth, which tracks you. He can use his head to head-butt you, and occassionally calls down crawly monsters into the arena. The laser and the green fluid can both be avoided by simply dashing around. After they have ended, you can get in some free shots at him. If he calls down monsters from above, just take the time to shoot them, they are not a real threat. His most dangerous attack is his head butt, since all his other attacks are unblockable but can be avoided. This one, however, cannot be effectively dashed away from, but can be blocked. It also takes off much life. Watch out for his head-butt, as it has some start-up signs, and you should manage to beat this boss without losing any life. Oh, don't skip the cutscene after this boss; watch it and see Linda act really hurt, it's hilarious. 6.7 Area 7 - Mount Sacrifice ----------------------------- Path: Starting area -> Caravan* -> Boss zone Boss: Chariot-type guy Secrets: One secret room in caravan area. As you enter this area, you will find three green zombies which can both attack normally, and shoot a projectile from their mouth. Use the normal tactic of concentrating on one zombie at a time, while knocking the others down so that they do not get a chance to spit at you. After they have been destroyed, proceed to the next zone. Here, you will find more of the same zombies clambering out of the caravan. It is not hard to deal with them if you have come this far, just use the same tactic to eliminate them. Next to the truck is a crate which contains another zombie. It's basically a trap, so don't destroy that crate. Also, there is a secret room which is invaluable when it comes to fighting the boss. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen there is a bunker-like area with a door. Push down the door to enter a weapons area. Here, you can choose three different weapons from a wide variety, including machine guns, shotguns, flamethrowers, land mines, bullets, grenades, and chain guns, and even a laser gun. I recommend that you get a land mine and a grenade, and for the third weapon you can choose either the flamethrower or the chain gun. The boss has two forms. The first form of the boss is extremely easy to
beat; it is very slow. Try to run around it, and at any time you are at
its back, just repeately hit it. It will only very rarely be able to
retaliate with a 'temper tantrum' type attack if you are hitting it in
the back. This can be easily blocked, and you can go back to hitting
it in the back with physical attacks (e.g. Stick can do PPPPP, Busujima
can do PPP repeatedly). After a while it will give you a life up, before
going into its second form of attack.

In this second form, the boss is a bit tougher, because there are two
different monsters you have to take care of. You still have to attack the
same armoured contraption, but there is also a smaller monster to take
care of. This smaller monster can temporarily incapacitate you by clinging
to your face, leaving you open to the attacks of the large monster.

The armourder thing has a few attacks. In one attack, it will open up its
chest to reveal a chain gun, which it fires in a wide arc. This is easy to
see coming, and you can run behind it and repeatedly attack its back again
(only this time it is not so easy because of the small monster). It can
also fire rockets into the sky, which will drop down onto the ground with
an explosion. Try running around all over the place, as far as possible
from where you were when he fired the rockets, and you should be okay.

Apart from these two main attacks, he can also do a charging attack and
a claw swipe. The charging attack can be dodged, and the claw swipe
blocked.

The easiest way to deal with the second form of the boss, without incurring
too much risk, is to lay the land mine right in front of him. This will
cause him major damage. Then, throw the grenade to the small monster.
Now they should be mostly dead. If not, just shoot either monster a few
times (if you notice that its life does not decrease when you shoot it, that
means that the particular boss is already dead and you should concentrate
your fire on the remaining boss instead). Concentrate your fire on the
smaller monster, as that seems to be the more vulnerable one.

6.8 Area 8 - The House of the Dead
-----------------------------------

Route: Water Pool -> Bridge -> Entrance gates -> Chandelier
       Staircase -> Doorway -> Foyer -> Landing Hall 1 ->                      Sub-boss -> Hall 2 -> Boss.
Sub-boss: Burning Boss
Boss: Giant
Secrets: Elixir in secret cavern, secret room before boss.

[This walkthrough section (6.8) courtesy of R-Jay]

Got a feeling of Deja Vu? Well, anyone familiar with the Sega shoot-
'em-up, House Of The Dead will instantly recognise this level as a
near-perfect replica of Chapter 1. Starting off outside the fountain
area, you will be faced with 3 zombies. They are very easy to dispatch
so do as you please. After this you will enter the fountain area.

This area is quite tricky on your first attempt. As you walk in, three
spit zombies leap out of the water pool, two at the front end and one at
the back. First of all dash-attack the two zombies at the front end and
then kill the one at the other end with your handgun before the others
recover. Then deal with the first two zombies taking care to
avoid/block their spit. As the other zombies appear, try keeping them
in the water. You will find that they don't spit as long as you don't
get in with them. When all the zombies are dead, pick up the shotgun
(optional) and move to the bridge.

At the bridge, run across and kill the first spit zombie before the
other two walk on-screen. Then deal with the others. Be ready to avoid
or block any spit.

Before you run to the stairway, be careful not to get hit by the frogs
that leap below. Shoot them if you wish for points but watch the time!

On the stairway, you will come face to face with 4 zombies (2 at the top
of the stairs, 2 at the bottom) all wielding shotguns!!! Quickly dash-
attack the two on top of the stairs and damage them as much as possible
with your handgun before the other two walk on-screen. When the others
appear dash-attack them and kill off the first two. Then pick the
shotguns and blast the remaining couple to oblivion taking care to dash-
attack if they try to re-arm. Then go through the door (you can't take
the shotguns with you).

Inside the house in the foyer you will be confronted by 2 hatchet men
swinging on the chandelier( the last two - break out a cheer) and 2
normal zombies. Disarm and kill the hatchet men first with handgun
shots, taking care to avoid any other attacks from the normal zombies.
This section is very hard due to the lack of space and the high life-
bars of your foes. However once the hatchet men are dead, killing the
remaining two is no trouble. After this you proceed to the bottom of
the staircase (Knock down the suit of armour if you wish). Shoot all
the bats but DON'T go up the stairs. Turn towards the wall. Notice the
section of the wall surrounded by a frame? Walk up to it and press any
button to enter the SECRET CAVERN!!

Once inside the cavern run towards the far end and climb up to grab the
ELIXIR. From there, dispatch the zombies VERY quickly using you
handgun as you'll of probably noticed the spiked walls closing in. If
you're feeling brave, get down and knock the zombies into the spikes for
a quick kill. Then get out fast!!! Back outside, go up the stairs to
the landing.

On the landing you'll face 4 armed zombies (3 in front and 1 at the
back). Quickly dash-punch the first three and then dash-attack the other
zombie and kill him off quickly with your handgun . Once he is dead,
dash-attack the others back down, pick up the machine gun first and
blast them taking care to dash-attack any that re-arm. Then move on to
the shotguns (Paint that wall red!!). After you have finished, pick up a
full shotgun and proceed to the first hall area.

This area contains the dreaded laser robots. Pump the ones in front of
you with the shotgun, taking care to avoid the attacks from the two
behind, until it's empty. Then use your dash-attack to floor what's
left and your handgun to polish them off. When they stop and point
their lasers, dash-attack them before they fire. Also try not to get
surrounded (use the roll if you are) as they will most likely stab you
with their laser barrels. After this section you will fight the sub-
boss.

The Burning Boss will come through a gate on the other side covered in
flames naturally and lumbers towards you. It has three attacks, a floor
punch and lunge which both send a flame across the floor (unblockable),
a tantrum attack (unblockable), and a counter attack (blockable).

But despite its fearsome appearance, it just so happens that the Burning
Boss is the most easiest thing in the game to kill. Use your handgun
until it gets close, then when you see it get ready to attack, run
behind it and use combos on its back for an easy victory, taking care to
move back if it does a tantrum attack. Soon it will be defeated and
when it's falling to the ground, punish it with more combos!! You will
then enter the second hall area.

This area contains about six laser robots. Don't fight them yet,
instead run to the top right of the hall and enter the secret room.
Once inside use your dash-attack to knock the 2 zombies down. Then
break open the chest of drawers. You will find a chain-gun, a laser gun
and a grenade. Use the laser or chain gun to polish off the zombies and
then go across to the wardrobe. Hit it a few times and life-up will
drop down. Take the grenade and leave the room. Back outside, get as
many robots as you can on-screen and throw the grenade for instant
annihilation. Use the dash-attack and combos to kill off what's left.
Then go to the near-top-left of the screen and shoot the crate tucked
between the door and wall pillars for a 50% life-up. Proceed through
the doors to the boss (you can take the laser gun, chain gun and grenade
with you into this section but I wouldn't bother). Then you will fight
the main boss - 'Giant'.

This thing looks as hard as nails and if you fall prey to its highly
damaging arsenal, death will be swift!! It has three attacks, all with
long build-ups, plus two normal zombies for assistance. A
single/double laser bolt from its eyes (unblockable), the hand grab
(blockable - but if catches you say goodbye to your lifebar) and a hand
swipe from left to right (blockable)

But as with the HYDRA boss, this thing is in fact quite easy to defeat.
Your gun will automatically lock onto its head and either one of its
hands depending on where you are standing. Dash-attack the two normal
zombies and proceed to shoot its hands and head with the handgun.
Don't concentrate on attacking the zombies. They will keep on coming as
long as the boss is alive. When it gets ready to fire the laser, go to
one end of the screen, wait until the very last moment before it shoots
and run across to the other side taking care to avoid the zombies. The
laser will miss you and kill them instead. With the hand grab and hand
swipe, when you see it raise it's arm, run to the far-right of the
screen and block the hand as it hits the ground (you can't block the
hand when it's in the air). Again it will probably hit or grab the
normal zombies. When it's dead you will proceed to the final chapter.

6.9 Final Stage - The Dawn
---------------------------

Route:          Platform -> Sub-boss 1 -> Sub-boss 2 -> Boss -> End Boss
Sub-boss1: Electric Predator
Sub-boss2: Chariot-type guy (version 2)
Boss: Zed
End Boss: God Of Destruction (Magician Type 0)

[This walkthrough section (6.9) courtesy of R-Jay]

This level starts on a descending platform with many robot men (4 on-
screen another 4 will come on one at a time to replace the dead). Use
the dash-attack, quick combos and well-aimed gun shots to dispose of
them. Be warned, though, it's not an easy battle because of their high
life-bars. After this section you will fight the first sub-boss - electric
predator.

The sub-boss is the Sewer Boss minus his minions. Follow the same
procedure as before taking into account the limited space. When it's
dead, you will fight the next sub-boss, the chariot guy.

This next sub-boss is in its second form with the little minion.
Follow the same procedure as before again taking into account the
limited space. It's a lot harder this time round mainly because you'll
have trouble avoiding the charge attack and, unless you use the dash-
attack to stop it, have absolutely no defence against the missile
attack. When the large robot is dead and about to fall down, hit him
a few times before he dies for a life-up and some bullets. Remember that
you will inflict a lot more damage if you aim for the smaller guy.

After this you will come face to face with Zed who's been
appearing in nearly every cut scene.

This man's fast, strong and hard to hit. It has a swoop attack*, laser
beam, handgun (fires up to 3 shots) and a flaming hand, all
unblockable!

* The small swoop is sometimes blockable, but the off-screen swoops
aren't. Either way I wouldn't bother.

You're best off using the handgun, roll and dash attack because of his
speed. Use your handgun whenever you can. It's best to wait until he
swoops, then roll out of the way and fire into his back until he moves
off. When he teleports or comes close, run or roll to avoid the flaming
hand and shoot him (Bullets will drop as his life-bar decreases so don't
worry about running out). When he moves up and charges for his laser
beam, move directly underneath him so he can be seen. When he fires,
try to move around the laser to avoid being hit (don't try to run from
it, it's too fast). If he is about to use his handgun, dash-attack him,
then run. Whatever swoop he does, roll. Time it carefully or you will
take damage too. A life- up will drop down when his life bar has
decreased by about 40%. When his lifebar is nearly empty, he will keep
teleporting and swooping. Roll away and shoot when you have the chance.

When he finally falls to the floor, the God of Destruction is
unleashed. (Notice the similarity to the MAGICIAN boss on House Of
The Dead)

End boss: God of Destruction
----------------------------

This thing really looks formidable and definitely IS formidable. If you
wondered what the card section on Edward Street was all about, it
decides his powers when you have his energy down to about 70%, i.e. Fire,
Electricity or Blue Energy (Similar to the last boss). I have listed
the moves for each card. They're not accurate but describe the
main attacks

Its first attacks are bad enough. Laser Rain (Blockable unless you are
caught in the full blast), Flaming Hand (Unblockable), Swoops
(Unblockable), Laser Beam (Unblockable), Laser Bullets (Blockable)
and Teleport. Follow the same strategy as you did with the last boss,
only this time remember that it's even harder to avoid that laser beam.
When he rises up and shoots out the laser missiles, run across to the
other side of the screen and take care, he will teleport to that side
and try to knock you into the laser rain with his flaming hand. Also be
prepared for quick multiple attacks. Once again bullets drop down as
his lifebar decreases.

When his lifebar reaches 70% the action will stop and the boss will
obtain the power from the chosen card.

Fire (Red Card)
---------------

His arms and eyes glow red. He fires lasers and rain as his main
attacks.

Electricity (Yellow Card)
-------------------------

His arms and eyes glow yellow. He forms a ball of electricity in his
chest and moves towards you, MAXIMUM DAMAGE! He also uses laser
beams.

Energy (Blue Card)
------------------

His arms and eyes glow blue. Similar attacks to previous boss. He
sometimes takes time out and hangs in the air bringing out 4 robot men
to deal with you. This seems to be the easiest version of the boss to
defeat.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Miscellaneous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Alternate costumes
        ------------------

If you hold down the start button during the character selection screen,
and then press a button, your character will be clothed in a different
costume. I prefer Stick and Busujima's alternate costume, but Linda's
original costume - for some reason, Linda's feet look really small and
thin when she is wearing her other costume.
