Turtles is notable for being the only game that isn't a shooter. More experienced gamers might recognize the title as Turtles isn't a completely new game. It is a port of Konami's arcade game with the same name. As an early arcade game, Turtles isn't very complicated, it relies more on skill instead of offering a multitude of options. This guide will introduce the object of the game, the enemies, the controls and some basic strategy so anyone can finish the game. It isn't a detailed walkthrough, but a FAQ to introduce the mechanics to make sure everyone can play it like it is meant to be. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- Gameplay [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 2.1- Object of the game [A201] =============================================================================== Turtles is a Pac-Man like game in which you need to save baby turtles from 'mystery' squares and take them to a safe house. Each time you get a turtle from a square, a safe house appears in one of the corners of the level. You just have to reach the safe house and you'll receive 150 Points. It won't be easy however. For one thing, two of the squares contain an extra beetle who will chase you 'till all turtles are saved. Coping with the beetles is very important because you'll encounters lots of them and you can't kill them. You only have a bug bomb which can immobilize them temporarily. The number of bombs you can use is also limited. You can only use one bomb at a time which means it is impossible to take out more than one beetle at the same time. Despite that it is important to own as many bombs as possible, which is not hard. Every level contains a bonus square which gives you one bomb when you pass it. You can pass it as much as you want so you can own dozens of bombs. That is helpful because the moment a beetle hits your first bomb, it disappears and you can use the next one. This will be your goal in the eight levels of the game, each having eight mystery squares and six turtles that you have to carry to safety. By rescuing a turtle from a square, you'll earn 100 Points. If you bring that turtle to a safe house, you'll earn another 150 Points. If you manage to hit a beetle with your bomb, you'll get 50 Points. So each level you can earn at least 1500 Points if you save everyone. After scoring 5000 Points, you'll receive an extra life. That will take the completion of at least three floors, even if you hit ten beetles with a bug bomb. To get in two floors, you'd need to hit twenty beetles with a bomb. It is not impossible, but it proves you need to be careful. A life lost isn't easily gotten back. Below you’ll find a ASCII drawing representing the different levels. The S represents the potential locations of the safe houses; the ? represents the mystery squares, the T represents the turtle and the B represents the bonus square. Beetles aren’t show as their placement differs from floor to floor and they move around. _____________________________________________________________________________ / \ | SSSSS SSSSS | | SSSSS SSSSS | | SSSSS SSSSS | | SSSSS SSSSS | | /\ /\ | | || || | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || BBBBBBB || ??????? ??????? | | || BBBBBBB || | | || BBBBBBB || | | || BBBBBBB || | | || BBBBBBB || | | ??????? ??????? || BBBBBBB || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || || ??????? ??????? | | ??????? ??????? || TTTTTTT || ??????? ??????? | | || TTTTTTT || | | \/ TTTTTTT \/ | | SSSSS TTTTTTT SSSSS | | SSSSS TTTTTTT SSSSS | | SSSSS SSSSS | | SSSSS SSSSS | \_____________________________________________________________________________/ =============================================================================== 2.2- Controls [A202] =============================================================================== The Entex Adventure Vision has six different input buttons, but not all buttons are needed to play the game so don't be surprised when you push a button and nothing happens (Button 4) or the Sound is turned off (Sound Button). Only the following buttons have a significant function within the game. _______________________________________________________________________________ | Joystick | The joystick is used to control the movements of your turtle.
