Released in April 22, 1993. A game where you slaughter tons of foes and try to get out alive! This guide will help you do just fine. Many enemies share the same attacks, but some are unique. I will be listing all of them and give strategies on how to beat them without losing much health. The bosses in this game are included as well. ====================================================================== == == Basic Controls == == =============================--------------=========================== |-Legend-----------------------------+----------------------| | Joystick Controls: | | | O O O | ___ ___ | | \ | / | |___| |___| | | O- 0 -O | (__A__) (__B__) | | / | \ | (A) (B) | | O O O | Attack | Jump | |____________________________________|______________________| ====================================================================== == == Move List == == ===============================---------============================== |-DATA OF FILE: FRANK CASTLE-------------------------------------------------| | 1. While Attacking, Forward + A | |____________________________________________________________________________| Here are more abilities you can use(submitted by Eduardo Peldoza): a) Overhead Throw: Just walk to a fallen opponent and press the Attack button. Frank/Nick pick up the opponent (just like a destroyable item); you can throw him/her away. b) Grab and Flash Kick: Grab an opponent, then execute the Flash Kick before he/she escapes. c) Two versions of Grab and Smash: It seems that you can get 2 versions of this attack. The common version is simply pressing Down + Attack during a jump. The other version is less common, but you can recognize it because: i) The damage is bigger. ii) The animation is more dramatic, because Frank/Nick smash the floor harder and faster, and the screen quakes a little. iii) The audio is also more dramatic, because Frank/Nick makes a battlecry. Now, the problem is ... how to get it? I usually get it doing the normal command of Grab and Smash when Frank/Nick reachs the apex of the jump, but the timing is very tricky (think the Diagonal Flying Kick of "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs"). d) Canceling combos: Standard combo can be canceled into throw technics, not unlike all beat'em up from Capcom: i) Punch combo, Shoulder Throw: Tap Attack and keep the joystick in Down, the opponent always is sending forward. If you're smacking a bunch of of opponents, the closest opponent will be grabbed. ii) Punch combo, Overhead Throw: Tap Attack and keep the joystick in Up, the opponent always is sending backward. If you're smacking a bunch of opponents, the closest opponent will be grabbed. In the same line, both Normal Combo (tap Attack with joystick in Neutral) and Dashing Combo (tap Attack with joystick in Forward) can be canceled into the Flash Kick, simply entering Down, Up before the animation of the combo ends. e) A small advantage of Fury?: I'd playing a lot both Punisher and Nick Fury, and I'd detected that the "slashing energy" animation of Fury's Flash Kick has a little more range than Punisher's. f) Hell Swing: This move will cost a small amount of your lifebar ONLY if you hit someone else during the swing. If you're dealing with a single opponent in the screen and you catch him/her with the HS, your lifebar will be intact. ====================================================================== == == Enemy Strategy == == =============================--------------=========================== Since Punisher and Nick Fury pretty much both have the same commands for their Move List, there'd be no point in giving character strategies like I did with my Alien vs. Predator Character Strategy Guide. ------------------------ 3-A. The Low Level Punks ------------------------ These guys don't usually have much health to start out with, but still you should be careful when fighting them. The following applies to the "low-level" portion: Max Dylan Chris Dean Shone Jack Jagger Jack and Jagger both share the same abilities. They both have a pistol to start out with. Also, they can only shoot one bullet at a time, so that's pretty easy to dodge. Make sure you roll out of the way when they're up close, or else they'll kick you, which becomes pretty irritating after a while. Luckily, you have your handy pistol with you so shoot them out of their misery. The rest of the low-level punks don't deal as much damage, but the ones that carry weapons usually do. On perfect example would be the one that carries the Battle Axe, which does about 40% damage if it gets a hit on you. You should roll kick one of them to knock him down, then pick him up and throw him at the other enemies. Or you can smash him on top of people. ------------------------ 3-B. The Mid-Level Punks ------------------------ This group is even more irritating than the "low-level" group. They can dish out quite more damage depending on the situation. The following applies to the "mid-level" portion: Cool Trench Red Lamp WOW-Cat Bakosu Leon Midori Luna Mizuki B. Hannigan Luis Allegre Kolsky Skinner Bogart Saxon Hawke Yan Lee That's a lot of enemies, indeed. Leon/Bakosu ----------- The reason why I listed "Leon" and "Bakosu" as mid-level is because they are EXTREMELY annoying. I totally find it kind of B.S. that they occasionally manage to get a slash on my back. And not to mention Bakosu, who roll-slash at you. One of them is fine, but two or more can pose a REAL threat! One handy tip is to ALWAYS roll-kick them when you get a chance. Roll down there and then grab one of them and keep throwing him at other enemies. Or if you're surrounded, use the enemy- spinning Escape Move to clear the crowd, giving you time to get away. It's best to take care of these guys first before taking on the lower- level enemies. Red Lamp/WOW-Cat ---------------- Now we go to "Red Lamp", who is also extremely annoying. Keep in mind that this guy can pick up ANY weapon. He can even pick up rings for some reason(probably looking forward to get rich), and pistols to shoot them at you. Like the strategy with Leon/Bakosu, roll-kick them when you get a chance. If they are holding a weapon or item, they'll drop it once they're knocked down. For "WOW-Cat", he doesn't show up until the later stages. Be extremely careful, as this guy carries a Flame Thrower, which HURTS! Get these guys out of the way before they burn you. Roll-kick them only when they're close, because they might get a burn at you if you're at a distance. The 4-hit Normal Attack Pattern seems to work well for both Red Lamp and WOW-Cat. Cool/Trench ----------- These "cool" trench-coated Tommy Gun mafia members are sometimes irritating as well. The good news, you have your gun with you. The bad news is that these guys usually come in packs. Don't let them shoot several bursts of their Tommy Gun at you. They usually start fire when you're at a range. Shoot them first, and take them down as fast as possible. -OR- if you'd rather fight these guys, walk up to them diagonally. Only walk straight at them when you have reasons to do so. Midori/Luna/Mizuki ------------------ Now believe me when I tell you, people. These bitches are a death threat. Their attacks do pretty good damage on you. Here are some abilities they have you should look out for: 1. Teleport - Yes, these vixens can teleport left and right. If you see one of them teleporting behind you, ROLL AWAY!! If you don't, they'll grab you and pile drive you. 2. Run up and Kick - Which does a lot of damage. You'll see the obvious soon enough when you face them. The general rule when encountering one of these vixens is to never stay at one place. A good start on them would be to roll kick. They'll be knocked down. When they get up, do an ATKx3, Down-Up+Attack. And repeat if others do not distract you. Saxon/Hawke/(Yan Lee) --------------------- Waiiiiii-Yah! Wai Yah! Yeah, if you hear this, you'll know it's one of the three(Saxon/Hawke/Yan Lee). Yan Lee generally is the high death threat of all the karate experts. The first thing you should know about these karate experts is that they can combo you for some pretty serious damage. Half the time, if you try to roll-kick them, they'll evade that by just doing a jump flip in the air. But there's a catch. They're vulnerable while in the air. Like encountering Cool/Trench, you should walk up to them diagonally and start a Normal Attack Pattern. If you are in their line of position, they'll occasionally execute a Flying Kick. You can simply stop them by either throwing a knife at them or mashing the Attack button as fast as possible. Fighting one of them can be pretty easy, but fighting multiple can be a pain in the ass. Occasionally, while you're attacking other enemies, they will come up and freely hit you without getting affected by your punches. If you see them do this, roll-kick. You'll hit the ones in front of you, leaving a karate expert either alone against you or get caught in the kick. If you prefer to use weapons against them, use a fast recovery weapon. Such examples can include Bisen Osafune, Steel Pipe, Baseball Bat, and Knife. Just to be more effective with the Knife, roll up to them and start button mashing the attack for all six hits. If not, they'll usually get affected during their jump sequence. B. Hannigan/Luis Allegre/Kolsky/Skinner/Bogart ---------------------------------------------- These guys can be identified by men wearing business suits in various colors(just so you can distinguish who is who). In some levels, these guys will have guns, which means yours will become usable as well. At other times, you'll have to fight them hand to hand. Unlike the karate experts and Tommy gun-wielders, you can safely walk up to them and attack in any direction. ATK x3, Down-Up + Attack Simple combo. Or you can grab them, knee twice, and slam them HARD. These guys are very easy to handle. The ones with guns can pose a threat. Most of the time, they'll miss their shot. One shot from them does a LOT of damage(my guess is that they're probably carrying Desert Eagles), even more than the ones Jack and Jagger uses. ------------------------- 3-C. The High-Level Punks ------------------------- These guys have the most stamina, apart from bosses. Their attacks do a decent amount of damage, but being combo-ed can mean your turning point. The high-level enemies you'll be facing in the game are as follows: Gus Red Misa Scully #2 Pretty Boy Pretty Legs Gus/Red ------- These guys are twins. Red is the red-colored one, and Gus is green. They have all sorts of moves they can pull off on you. If you think that the previous sentence sounds hard, then by no means feel free to drop a bomb on one of these guys anytime(as long as you have x1 or more bombs), for a great head start. Killing the karate experts was tough work, but these guys aren't any tougher. The damage you do to them is equivalent to what you can do on Leon or Bakosu. Yes, they are THAT weak in defense. If you had defeated the first boss Scully, you'll notice that these guys are no different from him. Gus and Red are more like younger brothers of Scully. They don't do much damage on you. Roll-Jump kick is the most effective way to start a fight with these guys. When they're knocked down, just roll up to them, pick him up, and either throw or hard slam his ass. Roll-Kick isn't very effective to use against these big guys. Misa ---- Now the reason I didn't list her with the rest of the vixens is because she is the most irritating. She even has a longer lifebar than the rest of them. Luckily, she rarely shows in the game. But nonetheless, if you followed the tactics of how to beat the vixens, then you shouldn't have any problem facing this one. A bomb would be a good head start, but saving them for bosses would be a better idea. Scully #2 --------- This guy will only show up at the end of the hallway in Final Stage. However, he is back with higher strength and speed. He's a bit stronger on the defensive side than Gus/Red, but nonetheless he is a pain in the neck if you're not careful. One thing you SHOULD watch out for is his double-kick-jump, which chops nearly 70% of your health. He'll only do this if you're close to him, so staying away would be a good idea. Since the area you're in has other enemies such as Bakosus and low-level punks, it would be the best idea to drop a bomb at them(make sure to include Scully in the explosion). The column near the elevator has a grenade hidden inside. Also, there is food hidden inside the plant and barrel. Roll Jumpkicks also work well on Scully, as it will temporarily knock him down, giving you time to either get away or pick him up. A warning though, this Scully can get up A LOT faster than Gus and Red. Pretty Boy/Pretty Legs ---------------------- Whenever you face these robots, you'll equip your gun. Save your bombs when facing them(unless you're in a desperate moment). Blowing them to the last piece will reward you with food. Pretty Boys can give you anything from a Pudding to a Hot Dog. Pretty Legs can give you anything from a Pudding to a Pizza. So you see, Pretty Legs gives you the more common food. One thing to note is to shoot ahead of them. A diagram to show exactly what I mean: ______________________________________ | | | YOU | /\ | | /\| | | | | | | -----------------> | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | -----------------> | | | | | | | | | | | | \/ | | | | \/ PRETTY ROBOT | |______________________________________| This diagram basically says never shoot while they're facing you in your line of fire. When they are coming down, go up and keep shooting. When they are coming up, go down and keep shooting. Basically, try to always keep a diagonal line between you and the Pretty Robots. These robots CAN be grabbed, but CANNOT be slammed. They have five phases before they blow up. Phase 1 - Perfect Form Phase 2 - Headless Phase 3 - Armor Chassis destroyed Phase 4 - Half a Body Phase 5 - Blowing up. Keep in mind that when their head are separated from their body, you can pick up those heads and throw them at any enemy. Be careful though, as they have timers on them. --------------- 3-D. The Bosses --------------- Scully - How's our Big Brother Doing? ------------------------------------- The moment you get on the bus, you'll be greeted with Scully. He has one full energy bar. If you are one of those fast-paced gamers and just want to kill him for crying out loud, just drop all your bombs on him. You should have x5 bombs(assuming you didn't use any of them in the previous areas), which is enough to kill him. When you start the next round, your counter will be reset to x3. If you are the ones that prefer to save your bombs for something more dangerous up ahead, then that's not much of a problem. Keeping Scully on one side is very effective. When the round starts, give him a smack to the right corner. Now you should be right in front of him(if not, GO up to him FAST). Keep hitting attack while holding forward. He'll be trapped! Now don't get excited. Big Brother needs Little Brothers to support him in battle. However, the little ones wont come out until you knocked off a certain amount of health from Scully. - Always use Roll-Jump-Kicks on Scully. - Almost never use Roll-Kicks unless Scully isn't around. - Escape Moves are your best friend when they try to ambush you. The corner trick still works if you use the Escape Move when little brothers come up from behind. It'll affect Scully as well as the ones behind you. Repeat. Guardroid - Robotanic sent by Fat-so ------------------------------------ This robot is a piece of cake. First of all, it has NO backup. Second, it's slow at moving most of the time. Third, you have a LOT of free space to move around. You still have to be careful, as it can use some pretty devastating attacks at you. The easiest way to describe how to beat this boss is to use hit-n-run techniques. Simply go up to it, hit 1-3 times, go away, and repeat. When it's landing from a jump, use a Flash Kick on it. This robot is THAT easy, yes. How to dodge attacks is pretty obvious, and shouldn't be much of a problem. You don't even need bombs to terminate it. Bonebreaker - Hello, I'm Half Human, Half Tank, And All Machines. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From an expert's point of view, bombs aren't necessary for this boss. However, I will give you tips on how to beat this boss almost flawlessly. On the defense side, roll away when it is about to rush at you, as it does about 40% damage. Avoiding its flamer by walking out of the path. And roll away when he does his missiles. On the offense side... First of all, you must know that this guy is a machine, like Guardroid. It takes very less damage. But that isn't concerned, as I am about to tell you a trick: Hit him in the back. Yes, you do the most damage on the back. Use any hand weapon(except for Knife) and keep whacking him in the back. One hit equals two. He'll take double damage as long as you keep hitting him in the back. If you're lucky to get a Bisen Osafune, you should see his life bar. Even without weapons, you can use your Flash Kick behind him. Obviously, it sounds easy, but what makes it hard is backup. From Cool/Trench to Pretty Boy/Legs to Jack/Jaggers will be backing our lovely tank up. Use a bomb, or Escape Move. Or just shoot them all to death by keeping them on one side. Bushwacker - Hey, check out my arm! I got a Missile Launcher! ------------------------------------------------------------- This guy is a pain in the ass. If you got bombs, use it all on him. You will not regret doing so. He has backup, too... Well, irritating backup, such as Red Lamps and Leons. The Red Lamps will be carrying bats, which is VERY effective against Bushwacker, as long as you get him in a corner. One thing to note is that this guy can block attacks, which is VERY annoying when you're in for a rush kill. If you use the weapons Red Lamp, Leon, and the other punks carry against him, there's less of a chance that he'll block those. These guys don't drop their weapons without a reason, you know. However, the above enemies aren't as annoying as the vixens. THEY trouble me the most when I fought with Bushwacker. If you see a pair of them running around, focus on them and use Escape Move whenever possible. Guardroid II - A new Improved Robotanic --------------------------------------- The first form was easy work, but this time it's new and improved with a different color. It also has two henchmen backing it up with Uzis. The trick here is go let the henchmen live for as long as possible while you're shooting Guardroid, hacking away at its health. Unfortunately, our two guys get in the way a LOT! On the other hand, many of Guardroid's attacks can hurt them! If, for some reason, the henchmen doesn't stay alive long enough, use the Guardroid 1's tactics. Hit and Run. Only this time, be EXTRA careful. Once you knock half of its health, a Pretty Boy will drop out of nowhere from the air. Now you can use your gun again.. Yay! The Pretty Boy will take a lot more hits to take down. The Pretty Boy is your source of healing, only once, only if exterminated. Kingpin - I was the one behind this, now you can kill me. --------------------------------------------------------- This big-ass guy is very fat, and he has a small cane which can burn you blue if you're not careful! The one thing to know about Kingpin is that he is slow, but he can run up to you at times and smack you if you don't roll away. He can also jump up and lay his fat ass on you. Roll away! There are a couple tricks on how to kill him. Trick #1 - Throw his henchmen at him. He'll take little damage, but it's better than nothing. If you kill the first henchmen or two, a gun guy will come out. You can *try* to use the same tactic you did with Guardroid II(keeping the gun guy alive while shooting at the big boss). Tactic #2 - Risky - Use a Roll-Jump-Kick to knock Kingpin down. Go up to him and pick up his fat ass. Throw him, or slam him. Repeat as long as he is down. If he manages to get back up, roll-jump-kick at him again. If you slam him on top of the business guys, you don't have to worry about them annoying you. Like Bushwacker, Kingpin can also block attacks. So you need to be careful when doing the roll-jump-kicks. Eventually, you can figure out his pattern. His cane with the blue laser CAN affect the henchmen, so that's an advantage. ====================================================================== == == Tips and Tricks == == ============================---------------=========================== 1. How Dumb Can Enemies Get? ---------------------------- Sometimes when you drop a bomb, enemies usually doesn't look for the radius of the explosion and walks right into it. Gosh, are they dumb?! 2. Red Lamp is a Greedy Punk ---------------------------- Red Lamp usually take weapons and use it against you, even pistols! However, sometimes they take rings and when you kill them, they will drop them. 3. Round 6 Glitch ----------------- At the beginning of the round, after you take care of the Tuxedo guys and past the columns you can break, there will be a bunch of low level punks. One of them has a knife, but you don't really get it until you kill him. My guess it this is a programming glitch, as that punk might have been Bakosu in the first place. 4. Reviving your Partner after a Round -------------------------------------- This only works at a two-player game. Basically, if one of you die and the boss has a little life left, you can kill the boss to prevent the death of your partner. You have to be fast, as the dying animation must still be in motion for it to work. 5. Double Team with Quadruple Damage on Guardroid ------------------------------------------------- Only at a two-player game and must be fighting Guardroid. Both of you do the flash kick with one person on one end and the other person on the other end. If done correctly, Guardroid will lose a lot of health and will be knocked down. When it gets up, repeat the strategy for a quick victory and much easy score(only because you don't have to use your bombs). This also works on Guardroid II as well. 6. Cheesy Tactic against Kingpin -------------------------------- Kingpin is one fat guy. However, get him in the corner(might take a little effort) and keep using your Escape Move on him as close as possible. He'll take a lot of damage, and when you have no health left, use up your bombs (Super Bomb style) for the extra damage. Yes, this will require you to sacrifice all of your energy, but you will never believe how much you took off of Kingpin. And the reason I told you to use all of your bombs is because when you die, the bomb counter will always reset to 4. 7. Remember Your Pistol Has Infinite Ammo ----------------------------------------- It's fair in a way. If enemies with guns have infinite ammo, why not give you that ability? Remember, that each pistol you pick up gives you 800 points(which, in fact, is also 800 Rounds =P). Most enemies only need five to six shots to take them out at most. ====================================================================== == == Contact Information == == ==========================-------------------========================= Naru2005 AOL/AIM: HelenC173 E-mail: AzNxxGrL4u@aol.com MSN(Hotmail): red_mimi701@hotmail.com Where you can find me: GameFAQs Forums(Username: TimiAzN). ====================================================================== == == Credits == == =================================-------============================== - Thanks to Pat Ling for helping me beating the game on first credit! - Thanks to Capcom for developing the game. - Thanks to you for playing and reading the guide. - Thanks to Gamefaqs(CJayC) for posting the guide. - Thanks to Eduardo Peldoza for extra information!
