Version history =============================================================================== Version 0.4 - August 2nd 2004 - First version submitted to GameFAQs. Basic FAQ structure and 11 areas done. =============================================================================== IV. Introduction =============================================================================== I started playing this game about 1 and a half months ago, under the influence of a few friends from another board. I wasn't really interested at that time, but that soon changed. I got hooked onto the game and it's infinite replayability. It's easy enough to learn the basics, but takes a good few weeks to really get good at it. This FAQ assumes that you have basic knowledge of the game, such how to do a basic drift and what the different modes are. Now, why a Heart Attack FAQ? Well, CJ800 already has a wonderful general FAQ up, and it would be stupid to make another one. So I decided to make an FAQ for one of the most played and enjoyable modes- Heart Attack. The basic idea of Heart Attack is to impress your companion by completing the requests she throws at you, be it well or badly done. Sounds simple, and it is. =============================================================================== V. Course Specifics =============================================================================== There are a total of 15 courses in the game, shaped in a pyramid. At the end of each course, you have the option of turning left or right, left bringing you to the generally easier course. Map of the courses, credit goes to CJ800: Tulip Garden / (A) Cloudy Highland / \ Castle Wall Metropolis / \ / (B) Deep Lake Industrial Complex / \ / \ Palm Beach Coniferous Forest Ancient Ruins (Start) \ / \ / (C) Alpine Snow Mountain \ / \ Desert Imperial Avenue \ / (D) Ghost Forest \ Cape Way (E) =============================================================================== VI. Cars =============================================================================== There are a total of 8 cars in this game, all Ferraris. The game ranks them into 3 groups. Novice, Intermediete and Professional. There are 2 from the first group, 4 from the second, and 2 from the third. Because the cars are "paired" and are quite similar, I will just give a brief description of each set of cars. The cars can be alternated by hitting the view change button in the car select screen. One thing to note is that the stats given by the game aren't exactly accurate. ========================== Set 1- F50 and 360 spider. ========================== Your average cars. Okay accelaration, same max speed as Set 3, and second best handling. Max speed: 293km/h Personal rating: 7.5/10 Unbiased rating: 8/10 ========================================= Set 2- Dino 246 GTS and 365 GTS/4 Daytona ========================================= Typical slightly slow cars with the best handling. The Dino is the most used car for Heart attack mode because of its insane handling. Max speed: 288km/h Personal rating: 9/10 Unbiased rating: 8/10 ============================= Set 3- Testarossa and 288 GTO ============================= These cars are accelaration monsters. Just play a VS mode game and watch them get in front of the other cars right away. Downside is slightly poor handling. Max speed: 293km/h Personal rating: 9/10 Unbiased rating: 7.5/10 =========================== Set 4- Enzo Ferrari and F40 =========================== The highest maximum speed, but extremely bad handling. Only for expert players. Very hard to control, but if you can do it, you'll kick ass. Max speed: 300km/h Personal rating: 5/10 Unbiased rating: 7/10 =============================================================================== VII. Requests =============================================================================== This section will outline the different requests your companion will throw at you, and basic tips for conquering them. I will list them in order of personal difficulty. ========= Pass cars ========= Self-explanatory. Each time you pass a car, you gain a set amount of speech bubble hearts and system hearts(Explained in the next section). The easiest way to pass this request is to stick to a lane and stay in it as soon as you can before the request even starts and stay in it for the whole request. The cars will usually move out of that lane. ========== Drift more ========== Also self-explanatory. Only things to remember are to drift before the request starts, and also stick to the inside of the turn you're making to reduce distance you have to cover. =================== Don't hit anything! =================== Again, self-explanatory. However, when they say anything, they MEAN anything. Barely grazing the side of a car or grass (No pun intended) for more than half a second will assure that you cannot get an AAA. ==================== Run through red/blue ==================== This request is rather simple, only requiring you to keep both your rear wheels in the coloured area. You have to look ahead and predict when to change direction/drift, etc. etc. Run through red takes place on the leftmost lanes, while Run through blue takes place on the rightmost lanes. ============== Cut the lines! ============== In this request, some CPU cars will have lines in between them. Your job is to run through them. Each line cut will net you a set amount of speech bubble hearts and system hearts. Tricky little request, only found in SR2 of Snowy Mountain. ================= Catch the Hearts! ================= Hearts will float on both sides of each CPU car, and you have to run through them. It's tricky however, because for a good speed, you want to collect only one heart per car, and for a high heart amount, you want to get both hearts from each car. You make your own choice. =============================================================================== VIII. Ranking =============================================================================== Before each request, a speech bubble will pop up, informing you what you have to do. Hearts will gather around the bubble when you complete a part of the request. I call these hearts speech bubble hearts, and they influence your ranking, which in turn decides what Special Request (explained shortly)you will get later. Crashing into the back of a car, or into the side of a wall at high speed, thus causing you to lose all speed, will decrease these hearts. The heart amount recorded at the bottom right of the screen all the time shows how many hearts you have currently. I call these system hearts. The hearts from requests are added at the end of the request. Eating grass during a request, crashing into the back of a car, or crashing into a wall and losing all speed will decrease these hearts. Also, depending on what ranking you got for each request, you can get special requests(SR) which give more hearts, but may be harder, in the later courses. This table will explain more clearly. Credit goes to CJ800: --------------------------------------------------------------------- - Stage - Special Request - Requirements and conditions --------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 SR Get rank B or above for each request on stage 2. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 SR Get rank B or A for each request on stage 3. ----------------------------------------------------------- SR2 Get rank AA or above for each request on stage 3. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 SR Get rank A for each request on stage 4. ----------------------------------------------------------- SR2 Get Total ranking of AA or above on stage 4. ----------------------------------------------------------- SR3 Get Total ranking of AA or above on stage 1 to 4. And never crash on stage 1 to 4. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The ideal run would go like this, by stage. Normal run, Normal run, SR, SR2, SR3. =============================================================================== IX. Goal A Guide =============================================================================== ========== Palm beach ========== Hug the right wall until you see a white car and a (brown?) pickup. At that point, cut into the leftmost lane and try to stay there until the beach segment ends. Before the long turn at the beach, move your car slightly out and grip inwards. One of the lanes will cut in, so be careful. Almost immediately after that is a drift request. It might take a few times to get the feel of it, but it should be rather easy. ======== Deeplake ======== Hug the rightmost lane even before the course starts. Immediately after the course begins, the lane you're on will cut in, so adjust your car accordingly. After the pass cars request, just drive normally, except drift early in the second request. =================== Castle Wall(Normal) =================== Just drive normally and drift early. ================ Castle Wall(SR1) ================ At the first request, hug the leftmost lane and drift. Try to keep near the inside of the red area until it straightens out, then steer outwards. Take the drift request as you would normally, making sure you avoid the cars. The run through blue turn can be taken either through a 5-4-5/6-5-6 drift, or braking early and holding down the brakes. ====================== Cloudy Highway(Normal) ====================== Drive normally until the drift request. It's quite easy, except the speech bubble that blocks the way. Try to look at the road as soon as possible and predict when you have to change direction. For the second request, just drive normally, avoiding cars as needed. Take extra caution before the S-chicane drift. The last drift is extremely easy, but it's hard to drift early. =================== Cloudy Highway(SR1) =================== The first set of cones can be taken at full throttle. A tip for cone hitting is to look 3-4 cones in front of the one you're hitting right now, and turn accordingly. You will probably hit more cones that way. The second set of cones is extremely tricky. Stay on the outside before the drift left, and change direction early, easing out of the drift just as the cones straighten out. The last drift is the same as Normal Cloudy Highway ==================== Cloudy Highway (SR2) ==================== The first set of cones takes practice, but is quite easy as well. Just turn early and you should do fine. For the don't crash request, just watch out near the beginning and end when you begin drifting. The drift at the end is almost the same as the rest, except you have some leeway to drift earlier because the start of the section is slightly later. ==================== Tulip Garden(Normal) ==================== The pass the cars is extremely easy, because they are scattered around and shouldn't be a problem avoiding. For the drift request, you might have to hold down both the brake and accel at the longest bend. The last drift request should be taken as per normal, and since SR1 and 2 are both the same, I won't mention it any more. ================= Tulip Garden(SR1) ================= The pass the cars request is slightly harder than before, but still easy to find a clear path without lane-hogging. The hit the cones request is EXTREMELY hard, and very hard to perfect. The last drift request is the same as per normal. ================= Tulip Garden(SR2) ================= Pass the cars takes a pretty large rise in difficulty here. However, with some lane hogging, it should be a breeze. The run through red request is the largest problem in SR2. It takes quite a fair bit of control to keep your car in the red area, especially near the end. If you have too little momentum, you'll most likely end up eating grass. The drift is as per normal ================= Tulip Garden(SR3) ================= Pass the cars is at it's hardest here. Hog the rightmost lane before you even change course, and stay there until the drift, or a car comes in front of you. It should be rather easy after the drift. The second drift request is the same as Normal Tulip Garden. Before the blue cones request comes up, stick to the right side of the road, then turn left. The cones are in a semi-straight line, so it should be pretty easy to hit them all. Just remember to drift before the chicane. =============================================================================== X.
