[TRICKS SECTION]> LAST UPDATED: 3rd March 1998 TRICKS GALORE FOR SF AND CAPCOM GAMES [MARVEL vs CAPCOM]> MARVEL vs CAPCOM ARCADE The third in the series of VS titles by CAPCOM has the entire Marvel universe going against the Capcom universe. And of course, does CAPCOM ever leave any of their games now without any codes? SECRET SPECIAL PARTNERS: Yes! There's even more Special Partners now, apart from the 20 usual ones. And what's more, with this code you can ALWAYS get them. No more Random Selecting for a Special Partner. However, the general code is quite hard to be done when you're selecting your characters for the first time, as the transition between the second character and the Special Partners menu is quite fast. So there's a simplified code to get them in the first battle. For the next battles, just keep holding the corresponding buttons until you're certain they're selected. This is the general code. The buttons to press for which secret partner is followed after this article. GENERAL CODE: BEFORE the Special Partner boxes appear (you can't get them once it has appeared), press and hold the corresponding buttons... A black box will appear below the 20 boxes and the name of the secret Special Partner is shown. MODIFIED CODE (FOR FIRST BATTLES): Start a new game... Select any first character... Highlight your second character... Press and hold START... Press and hold the corresponding buttons to select your character... Keep holding the corresponding buttons until the Secret Special Partner is selected. SECRET SPECIAL PARTNER - SHADOW: Shadow is in the game, but only as a Special Partner though. He'll jump in and does his Shadow Justice (triple Flash Kicks) and leave. He can be used for about 5 times only though. Use the Secret Special Partners code with the corresponding buttons as START + LP + MK + HP. SECRET SPECIAL PARTNER - SENTINEL: You can also use Sentinel as a Special Partner. He's quite effective. He flies through the screen and hits several times. The good thing is, he's a screen tall, making him cover the entire screen's range. However, he can be stopped by a single projectile, and he can only be called 4 times. Use the Secret Special Partners code with the corresponding buttons as START + MP + MK + HP. SWITCH LEADER: Like in MSH vs SF, you can select who's going to be the first character to fight in the next match. Select any 2 characters... At the VS screen, press and hold all 3 PUNCHES until the match starts... Your second character will now become the first character of the team. FIGHT AGAINST SECRET CHARACTERS: There are a bunch of secret characters in the game. However, mostly the CAPCOM secret characters are more impressive, as they're different sprites, while the Marvel secret ones are merely color swaps. Here they are. There was a mistake before. There wasn't a glowing Wolverine with Hulk. Just a normal Wolverine. Sorry about that. ORANGE HULK Select any 2 characters... The Special Partners are arranged in a predetermined order. The first character of the first row in the Special Partners Selection box is numbered as 1, the second is 2, and the last in the first row is 3. The first character on the second row is 4, the next is 5 and so forth. Now, generally, the code works by holding START and certain buttons before the Special Partners menu appears (much like how to get Shadow and Sentinel as the Special Partners above). The buttons to be pressed are determined by the way shown on the left, which resembles some sort of a binary code. To get the Special Partner that you want, hold the corresponding buttons that will give a total that equals to the number the Special Partner you wanted is assigned with. For example, Magneto is the 3rd character on the 4th row, so, it has a number of 12. Therefore, you hold START + HP (4) + LK (8) before the Special Partners menu to get him, as 4 + 8 = 12.
