Revision History _______________________________________________________________________________ 1. D I S C L A I M E R S _______________________________________________________________________________ First, I'd like to say that, since any information on this game seems to be hard to come by, I'm allowing anybody and everybody to use and/or host this guide. But ONLY on these conditions: 1. This guide is not to be altered in any way, shape, or form 2. I'm given proper credit for my work 3. This guide is NOT used to make any sort of profit, with out my hand written permission (And let me tell you, its going to be hard to get that) As long as those are met, feel free to use this guide with my blessing. Second, let me say that since this game is so rare, there is probably only 3 ways you can play it. One is by being lucky enough to have an entertainment place that houses it. Alternatively, you bought the JAMMA board of it, or you have the ROM. So on that note, those of you who want to play this game but are unable to do the first 2 options, _DON'T_ ask me for the ROM. I don't have it, nor do I know where to get it, as I personally own the JAMMA board. (If you’re curious, I got it dirt cheap off of eBay) I would also like to point out that some of the special moves, where I couldn't find an official name, I just made something up. So if anyone knows of an official name, feel free to correct me _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. G A M E B A C K G R O U N D _______________________________________________________________________________ Seeing as how you sought out this guide, and due to the rarity of this game, I'll assume you already have a moderate standing of knowledge on this show's plot/history. So I will just give you a quick break down on general info on this game, as well as when/where this game takes place during the shows story line. Dragon Ball Z is a fighting game. It takes place between the Tenkaichi Budokai at the end of Dragon Ball, through the Saiya-jin saga and ends with Frieza. It features destructible backgrounds as well as showing the actual ground take damage from the battle. Ex: body slam an opponent, and he leaves a hole in the ground. Throw your opponent and watch a wall break, then have him up heave dirt, as he skids from the landing. This game also introduced a "free flight" battle system, that was innovating for its time (Hell, compared to some games now-a-days, it’s still pretty innovative). Basically, instead of jumping, your character will automatically fly. He won't plane shift, like in other DBZ games, just float up. This allows the character full 8 way movement, dashing and fighting on a 2D plane. This allows for some rather interesting attacks, as well as defenses. It's fun to have an opponent fire a Kame hame ha at you, only for you to dash into the air over it, then dive bomb your opponent with a kick to the head, then retreat back up into the far side of the screen, and unleash a ki blast of your own before they even know what happened! But I'll talk more about this later. _______________________________________________________________________________ 3. G A M E P L A Y B A S I C S _______________________________________________________________________________ CONTROLS: UA U UF \ | / \ | / A---- ----F / \ / \ / \ / | \ P K HA / | \ \ / \ / \ / DA D DF U = UP UF = UP AND FORWARD F = FOWARD DF = DOWN AND FOWARD D = DOWN DA = DOWN AND AWAY A = AWAY UA = UP AND AWAY (SUPERMAN! ... err... sorry >_>) P = PUNCH K = KICK HA = HARD ATTACK BASIC COMMANDS: FLY - Up DUCK - (while on the ground) down DASH - Tap any direction twice to quickly move in that direction. NOTE: Dashing in any direction towards your opponent will execute an attack if you hit them, While dashing in any direction away from your opponent will execute a hasty retreat ~_^ THROW - Forward + Punch (when close) NOTE: Only Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Recoom can throw. REFLECT PROJECTILES - you can reflect any projectile, by hitting it with HA. Just be warned, Your opponent can volley it back at you! (in which case, you can knock it back, etc. etc. until the projectile is destroyed. Roughly 4-6 volleys) ABOUT FLYING: As mentioned above, Flying can be accomplished merely by pressing UP while on the ground. While flying, you are free to move and dash in all 8 directions, and attack in the front three. (Up, down and straight forward). This actually doesn't open up a whole lot, but what it does open up, really adds to the game. As mentioned earlier, one of the things possible is dashing up and around a ki blast, and unleashing a world of pain to your Opponents head. Obviously, you can do other things. With such freedom in movement, you can literally fly loops around your opponent. Some favored things of mine to do would be to fly down and around my opponent, and literally kick his ass =Þ or to knock/throw my opponent up, then attack them from underneath. Recoom, with his air throw, can knock his rivals up into the air, dash straight up and perform his air throw on them, and finally, finish it off with a ki blast on the downed opponent. I encourage you to experiment with this, and find out other things that are possible, as you can do quite a lot. _______________________________________________________________________________ 4. C H A R A C T E R S _______________________________________________________________________________ I will talk about the characters in the following format: NAME CHARACTER QUOTE (What they say after _every_ match) INFO REGULAR MOVES SPECIAL MOVES MOVES THAT I'VE SEEN, BUT HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO YET PROS CONS PLAYING AGAINST WINNING POSE NOTE 1: All special moves can be performed while flying. NOTE 2: All special moves are listed as if you’re facing right. Reverse movements if facing Left (DUH!) NOTE 3: All Hard attacks are the same, regardless of where/how they're performed so I will only list what it does once for each character GOKU "This isn't good enough for my exercise." What can I say? Goku is the main character, and like all main characters, is the best choice for beginning players. He's average in just about every aspect, except for strength and speed, where he slightly excels. His delay between ki blasts is also rather short, so your able to keep your opponent under some pressure, even if your on the other side of the screen. His cartwheel kick is a great anti air move, and if you’re in the air, it has a decent radius of attack. (Affecting from right behind you to right above you to right in front to right below you) And his Kaio Ken attack is great for halting your opponents’ onslaught of attacks. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING ATTACKS Punch = straight forward punch Kick = a swinging high kick towards the head Hard attack = a downward hammer punch CROUCHING ATTACKS Punch = straight forward punch Kick = supports self on one hand, then kicks forward with both feet CLOSE ATTACKS Punch = elbow to the midsection Kick = knee to the chest FLYING ATTACKS Punch = straight punch Kick = straight forward kick OPPONENT BELOW YOU Punch = downward elbow Kick = straight kick OPPONENT ABOVE YOU Punch = upper cut Kick = leans back, kicks straight up SPECIAL MOVES: ============ KAME HAME HA ============ D, DF, F + HA Goku fires his signature move. Unfortunately, it looks like a blue ball in this game. however, due to its small after delay, he can fire these off in somewhat quick succession ======== KAIO KEN ======== A, DA, D, DF, F, UF + HA Goku goes into the horse stance, powers up, turn’s red, and then just attacks everything! Goku basically jumps all around the screen, bouncing off the floor, walls and the opponent if he comes in contact with them. This attack lasts roughly 2 to 3 seconds, and due to the speed of his movements, and the rather high priority of this move, it’s hard to knock him out of it with anything but a ki blast. ============== CARTWHEEL KICK ============== U, UF, F + K Goku flips himself around, and swings his leg from UA to DF. This move can come out fast, so it’s a great surprise attack, as well as an anti air. ============= DASHING PUNCH ============= F + P Goku charges at his opponent, with a flying forward punch. It’s not that great of a move, and I honestly wish it wasn't in the game. It has a long start up delay, travels about half a screen, and inflicts a standing punch amount of damage. If you try to throw your opponent, you'll often perform this instead. At least it travels slightly fast. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - Genki Dama. Through the use of this games service mode, I’ve found sprites of what appears to be Goku charging up his genki dama. I have yet to see this move in game though. PROS: + Cartwheel kick is very versatile + Short delay between kame hame ha's + Good at pressuring opponent + Kaio Ken is fun to watch CONS: - Long start up delay on dashing punch - Long start up delay on kaio ken - can perform dashing punch on accident too easily - No controllable ki blasts - DAMN dashing punch! >=O PLAYING AGAINST: Definitely take advantage of his start up delays. The computer rarely uses the kaio ken, but loves to do the dashing punch for some reason. So either wallop him on the start up, or ki blast him on the execution. Or, if you’re in the air, just fly around him, and attack from above, below or behind. Be careful though, because the computer also likes to throw out the cartwheel kick when you’re close. If your on the ground when he performs it, either block it, or try to counter with one of your characters ducking attacks. If it’s in the air, then dash down and around him, and attack him from behind. Don't try to attack him from below during this move,as its speed can sometimes counter your attack. WINNING POSE: Goku grabs his belt, and gives the Victory sign VEGE TA "You really disappointed me. Don't tell me that’s all" Ah Vegeta, everybody’s favorite bad boy. Also a source of constant bickering on how to spell his name. So just to let you know, how I have it here is how the game spells it. So shut your mouth already ^_^ (I personally spell it Vejita =þ) But I digress. Vegeta seems to have sacrificed strength for speed,in comparison to Goku. He can dish out a little more damage and is a little bit slower. Not to mention, that being one of the shorter characters, he can avoid some of the taller characters attacks rather easily. Like most characters, he has a controllable ki blast, but his comes out slightly quicker than most. However, ending delay prevents you from being able to whip them out constantly. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING ATTACKS Punch = a short, straight punch Kick = he lifts his knee up, pauses, then thrusts his leg out Hard attack = hammer blow (press up + HA for an upwards kick) CROUCHING ATTACKS Punch = a short jab Kick = a sweep kick CLOSE ATTACKS Punch = an elbow to the chest, followed by a downward punch Kick = same as his standing, but with a shorter delay FLYING ATTACKS All the same as his standing attacks OPPONENT BELOW YOU Punch = same as standing Kick = a stomp like attack OPPONENT ABOVE YOU Punch = a diagonal chop Kick = same as standing SPECIAL MOVES: =========== FINAL FLASH =========== D, DF, F + HA One of Vegetas signature moves. He fires out a blast slightly slower than Goku's Kame Hame Ha, but deals a little bit more damage. ======== KI BLAST ======== A, F + HA Just a simple Ki blast. He out stretches his hand, and fires a small yellow ball. It does slight damage, but can come out fast, and be aimed. Hold up or down while firing, to have it travel in that direction. ========= SHORYUKEN ========= F, D, DF + P Hehe. Talking about a blatant rip off! Sure it’s performed the same way as the Capcom version, but it also looks EXACTLY the same as in Street Fighter II! But anyways, this is Vegetas anti air, and it’s a decent one. It launches him high into the air (about one and a quarter screen lengths) so you can hit some unsuspecting high flyers. Not to mention, this move comes out quick. ============ FALLING KICK ============ (While flying) D + K Vegeta outstretches his feet, and quickly falls straight down. =========== RUN-A-ROUND =========== F + P + K WHEN CLOSE TO OPPONENT Vegeta quickly runs to the other side his opponent and elbows them. Oddly, the elbow only seems to connect if you end up in a corner after the run around. Regardless, this move can be easily followed with a standing kick or a throw. And is also a good move for getting around opponents. A la those damn corner trappers. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - Remember that attack in the Saiya-jin saga, where he's fighting Goku one on one, and he crosses his arms, powers up, then outstretches his arms, and his ki just demolishes an area around him? Well, that’s in here. PROS + Powerful + Small. So he can avoid high hitting attacks + Shoryuken can catch unsuspecting human players off guard CONS - He pauses during his kicks. - He’s as slow as a bigger character PLAYING AGAINST: Beware of his shoryuken and his one attack I’ve yet to figure out, as they can come out quick and deal decent damage. So try not to rush him, if he's just standing there, as sometimes he'll seem to try and bait you. Also, like Goku, take advantage of his delays. After his Final Flash, or during one of his kicks, you should be able to get in a nice hit or throw. (And don't say it can't be done, because I’ve thrown Vegeta out of his standing kick) WINNING POSE: Puts hands on his hips, with a smug look on his face GOHAN "You are not as good as I expected" Heh. Gohan. If you ever played any of the Super Famicom DBZ games online, then you've probably noticed a lot of people will play as Gohan, because of his strength and speed. This game is not very different. This little tyke is one of the fastest characters in the game (In my opinion, second only to Burta), and his strength isn't all that bad. It may be lacking, but it is definitely nothing to scoff at. Especially when his speed allows him to stay right on top of people. Most of his special moves can appear to come out no where, and his regular moves have little to no delay. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING ATTACKS Punch = fast straight punch Kick = a kick to the shins Hard attack = hammer blow (UP + HA results in an upward kick) CROUCHING ATTACKS: Punch = a straight punch Kick = a ducking kick CLOSE ATTACKS: All are the same as his standing attacks FLYING ATTACKS: Punch = same as standing Kick = straight kick OPPONENT BELOW: Punch = same as standing Kick = he sticks his foot out, then swings it up and towards the camera OPPONET ABOVE: Punch = a jumping punch (think mini shoryuken, that barely leaves the ground) Kick = a short upward kick SPECIAL MOVES: ======== MASENKOU ======== U, UF, F + HA Gohans first signature move, an attack Piccolo taught him while training for Vegeta and Nappas' arrival. It’s a simple attack, although much smaller than most other signature attacks. ======== KI BLAST ======== A, F + HA A simple ki blast that he hurls at you like a soft ball. Small in size, but quick to come out. It’s also aim able. Just hold up or down while firing it and it will travel in that direction ============= RUSHING PUNCH ============= A, F + P He rolls forward in the air, and punches downward if he connects. This move is FAST. And can come out of nowhere at times. And since it travels the length of the screen, your opponent will always be in range! ============ RUSHING KICK ============ F + K He charges at you and kicks once, if it connects, he'll spin around and kick you again. This is another fast move that comes out of no where. And when I say its fast, I MEAN IT! If you throw a ki blast, then immediately perform this, you will actually fly by your ki blast! And since this move travels 2 screen lengths (yes, 2!) your opponent can't simply retreat to avoid it! You either have to block this, or move up/down to avoid it ============ FLURRY PUNCH ============ TAP P REPEATEDLY He moves forward, repeatedly punching with one arm. Well, I guess he needed at least 1 slow move. This comes out at about normal attack speed (slow compared to his other moves) and he travels for about a screen and a half. On the good side, this attack can hit from 1 to 5 times and does very nice block damage. ========= DROP KICK ========= D + P + K Gohan ducks down, does a quick tumble across the ground and then does a drop kick. A rather average speed move, but because it moves along the ground, it is a great anti ki blast tech. Can also hit twice if performed close enough to larger characters. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - I finally figured out how to do his drop kick, so I don't believe he has any moves other than what is listed. PROS: + His speed! + His rushing punch and kick can come out of no where + His size allows him to avoid a lot of attacks. + Flurry punch just loves when people block CONS: - He takes damage like a sissy. - Flurry punch is easy to avoid and/or counter - With his moves traveling so far, if he misses, he leaves himself open PLAYING AGAINST: First off, unless you’re Burta, don't try to match his speed. Barring that, Gohan is most vulnerable while performing his flurry punch. So if he performs it, and doesn't catch you with it, either just blast him or maneuver behind him and do whatever you'd like. Also, since he doesn't like to be hit, don't let up on him. Every time he gets hit, or blocks, is one moment less you have to worry about him attacking out of no where. Also, avoid using to many projectiles on him, he can avoid most of them by doing his ducking kick. (Even though the computer has yet to do it to me; I’ve pissed off many a friend, by doing it to them, then following up with a rushing kick or punch =D) WINNING POSE: Scratches his head with a look of disbelief on his face PICCOLO "You are nothing to me" Yay! Piccolo! Piccolo-san dai suki! Hehe, can you tell he's one of my favorite characters? Well not in this game, but in the show he is. Most people, when playing as him for the first time, will probably just hate him. He's tall, so he's an easy target. He's not very fast, and most of his attacks just have a nasty start up delay. And even though those weaknesses are obvious, most people will still choose to play him as a straight forward attacker, because he's also a damage dealer. However, thats not how he should be played. Forgive the Street Fighter reference, but Piccolo is like the Dhalsim of this game. Almost literally when you take into account that his limbs stretch. Piccolo should be played as some what of a poker. All of his moves have length. For a better explanation of what I mean, check out his special moves. He may not be great right next to an opponent, but get a quarter to half screen away from them, and you can hit them without ever having to worry about reprisal. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING ATTACKS Punch = a straight punch Kick = he lifts his knee for a moment, then performs a side kick Hard attack = Hammer blow NOTE: pressing Up + HA makes him do an upward kick that, due to his size, reaches all the way up to the power bars! O_O CROUCHING ATTACKS Punch = straight punch Kick = none. He stands and performs his standing kick CLOSE ATTACKS All of these attacks are the same as his standing attacks FLYING ATTACKS All of these attacks are the same as his standing attacks OPPONENT BELOW Punch = a downward slap Kick = a head stomp OPPONENT ABOVE Punch = Piccolo looks up, pauses a moment, the does an upward palm thrust Kick = Piccolo lifts his knee for a moment, then performs a high side kick SPECIAL MOVES: ============= MAKANKUSAPPOU ============= U, UF, F + HA Piccolos first signature attack. He touches two fingers to his shoulder (shouldn't it be his fore head?) then outstretches his hand, and fires two beams in one. One is a straight beam, while the other wraps around it for a drilling effect. This move is pretty cool for a few different reasons. One is because, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in length. Its a thin beam, but its long; so people that are used to dashing at you after a projectile or try to fly around them, will usually get hit by the tail end. Secondly, whether it connects or is blocked; it still travels right _threw_ the opponent! Unfortunately, its only a visual effect, with no added damage. ============== LARGE KI BLAST ============== A, F + HA Piccolo cups his hands together, to gather Ki then thrusts his palm outward to release it. This is a decent Ki blast because, even though it is slow, it’s larger than most other characters signature moves! Plus, its aim able! So if used correctly, your opponent can have a hard time avoiding it. ==== SLAP ==== F, DF, D + P Piccolo raises his hand back, then bitch slaps! Hehehe don't believe me? Then try it! This is one of his poking moves, because his arm slightly extends. Unfortunately, he has a rather long delay from when he raises his hand to when he actually slaps. ========= 1-2 PUNCH ========= A + P Piccolo does a palm thrust, roughly twice the length of a normal punch, then punches again at normal length. I'm not positive, but I think this must have been a programming error. I don't see why one punch would be of double length, while the other punch is normal length. I think his first punch was supposed to bring the opponent in while the other one knocks him down. But, alas, it doesn’t do that. And on top of that, there is a long start up delay, and worse yet, if you’re too close, the first punch will actually pass by your opponent, not hitting him. ========== ROUNDHOUSE ========== F + K Piccolo performs a round house, moving roughly half a screens length. If performed close enough, this attack will hit twice. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: There is nothing I have seen, that I didn't list how to perform here. PROS: + Long reach + Big ki blast + has some power CONS: - Horrid delays - Slow PLAYING AGAINST: DONT get into a fireball fight with him, as his Makankusappou can destroy your ki blast then keep on going towards you. Maybe it’s a glitch, but sometimes it will hit you, and sometimes it won't, after passing through a fireball. But why take the chance if you don't have to? Also, like I keep saying, take advantage of the delays. Almost all of his moves have them. Another good idea is to try and stay close to him. Like I said earlier, he is NOT meant for close combat. And the computer won't hesitate to use his extended limbs to knock you out of a move, if you’re the right distance away. Lastly, avoid flying around too close to him, because he'll just aim his large ki blast at you, and it’s rather hard to avoid. WINNING POSE: He crosses his arms over his chest, and looks down. Recoom “Give me a break. You really are a scum bag" Well, apparently every game needs a powerful lummox, and in this game, it’s Recoom. Possibly the slowest of the characters (however, his walking speed isn't all that slow, but his flying speed is), he has strength to back him up. Unfortunately, when I say slow, I don't just mean his movement speed, I mean attack speed too. Thankfully, he don't have as many delays as Piccolo, but the delays he does have, seem longer than the others. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING MOVES Punch = leans back, touches arm to shoulder, then does a swinging chop Kick = does a hop with a kick Hard attack = kicks upward. NOTE: His moves are the same, no mater what position he is in SPECIAL MOVES: ============= RECOOM KABOOM ============= D, DF, F + HA One of Reccoms signature moves that he named after himself. I'm not sure if I got the name right, but this is the ki blast that he performs with his mouth. It’s small, only slightly bigger than his other ki blast, and it only travels at average speed, but it packs a wallop ======== KI BLAST ======== A, F + HA Just like most other peoples ki blast, he flings a small, aim able, ki ball at you. nothing special, other than a little extra damage. ============= DASHING PUNCH ============= TAP FORWARD TWICE I know, your probably thinking why did I list this as a special move, when I covered dashes earlier? Well let me explain. This is a little different then every body else’s dash. First it has the possibility to hit twice. Secondly, this move will randomly make Recoom invincible! There are times, during that horribly long start up delay, where many attacks will go right through him. As well as the actual dashing part has priority over any other physical attac thats right in front of him. (piccolo's extended limbs is an exception) ========= AIR THROW ========= (WHILE IN THE AIR and close to your opponent) D + P Essentially, Recoom grabs his opponent and just slams them down. Alternatively, you can just do an F + P and he'll do his Bear Hug instead MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - I don't believe there is a move that I’ve seen, that I haven't included PROS: + Power house + Not _that_ slow CONS: - His delays are a lot longer than most - He still is slow - You can see his bare butt during certain attacks O_O;; PLAYING AGAINST: Okay, say it with me now "Take advantage of the delays". Very good! (puts a gold star on your nose). But seriously, other than the obvious, if he fires a projectile at you, reflect it back. Don't block it. Granted it won't hurt you as much as if you didn't block it, it just takes off more block damage than other projectiles. Also, try not to let him near you. His bear hug (that’s his throw) hits multiple times, and hurts like crazy. Also, when he's on the opposite side of the screen, the computer often likes to perform his dash punch. Now even though his start up delay occasionally renders him invincible, his actual attack leaves him open for a projectile or you can fly over him, and womp on his backside. As long as you play keep away, he isn't too hard. Bad thing is, higher difficulties (as well as most human players) won't allow you to create much of a distance between the two of you. WINNING POSE: He has various poses, just like on the show. BURTA "You can't possibly catch up to me. I'm the fastest" Remember how fast Gohan is? Well Burta is Faster! He is the fastest character in the game. Unfortunately, he gets boring to play as just as fast. Why? Well because he has almost no moves! He only has two (?) special attacks, and his regular moves hardly differ. Thankfully, though, his 2 special attacks are rather damaging, and can really hurt whether they are blocked or not. My recomendation for playing as Burta is to act like a Shark, and constantly stay moving. Hit, run and hit again. With his speed, you should be able to avoid most attacks, and retalliate before they can recover. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING, CROUCHING, CLOSE ATTACKS and OPPONENT ABOVE Punch = a forward punch, aimed slightly downward Kick = ducks down, and slides his foot across the ground Hard attack = hammer punch FLYING MOVES Punch = same as standing Kick = straight kick OPPONENT BELOW Punch = same as standing Kick = thrusts his leg down at an angle SPECIAL MOVES: ========== RAPID KICK ========== F + K Burta kicks repeatedly. Can hit from 1 to 5 times. Most often it hits twice. Does some potent block damage. Hits both hi and low ================ SPIN AROUND KICK ================ F + P + K (when close to opponent) Burta spins around to the other side of the opponent, and delivers a kick to their midsection. This move does nice damage, and can't be blocked. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - He has a move where he flies into the back ground, and flies back. I've only caught a glimpse of this in the demo, so I’m not sure if it’s an attack or what. PROS: + Very fast + His special moves do nice damage CONS: - Very few special attacks - He’s big and tall, which makes him an easy target - No ki attacks PLAYING AGAINST: Not much to say here. He'll try to use his speed against you. Using his Dashes as his main attacks, and flying around a lot of your attacks. Thankfully, he has few attacks of his own. So you can usually predict what he'll throw at you. If your character has an aim able ki blast, fire it off and aim for his chest. If he ducks, it will hit his head, if he try’s to fly up, it will hit his legs. Also try not to pressure him in close to often, because he loves doing his rapid kick, which can whittle your health down quickly. You'll essentially end up playing a game of cat and mouse with him. With him hitting you a few times, then retreating and expecting you to follow after him. If he does do this, becareful, as he can change his direction and attack you before you know it. WINNING POSE: Like Recoom, he has various ones Captain Ginyu "I didn't have to show what I've got" Ah, Ginyu. Another one of my favorites from the show, that I just don't care for too much in this game. Not for any real reason, it’s just that in the show his attacks where like his personality. Very "showy". But in this game, although effective, they're just not his style. They're too normal. Oh well, not really a bad thing. Anyways. Ginyu is a pretty solid character. None of his normal moves have a delay in them. YAY! And of his special moves, only his Ki Blast has a delay, but that’s more or less to be expected. He also seems to be able to hit you no matter how far away you are from him, as his various special attacks allow him to cover close, mid and far away. REGULAR MOVES: STANDING, CROUCHING, FLYING ATTACKS, OPPONENT ABOVE and BELOW Punch = under hand chop Kick = a ducking sweep Hard attack = hammer blow CLOSE ATTACKS Punch = elbow to the chest (or head if its Gohan. hehehe) Kick = same as standing SPECIAL ATTACKS: ============== LARGE KI BLAST ============== A, F + HA Out stretches his arm, and fires a large but slightly slower than average ki blast. HA! You thought Piccolo had a large ki blast? Well Ginyu's is roughly twice the size! And, like the others, its aim able! If used correctly, this puppy is VERY hard to avoid. Unfortunately, it’s also on the weak side. Block damage is almost negligible, and if it successfully hits, it’s on par of a normal punch. Oh well, its great for keeping your opponent on their toes. ========== NECK BREAK ========== F + P + K NEAR THE OPPONENT Ginyu grabs the opponents’ neck, and swings around them, ending with a chop to the back. A decent move if you’re cornered, as it switches places. Also, it counts as a throw, so that means it can't be blocked. Which is a nice touch, cause it does pretty decent damage ========= JUMP KICK ========= F + K Ginyu pushes himself forward with his back leg, and kicks with his front. An average move. Quick execution and moves you forward slightly. Good for poking or interrupting, and is hard to counter. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - While messing with the service mode, I found frames of animation where Ginyu was posing as if he was doing his body swap technique. I have yet to see this move in game, but even his after-battle quote seems to hint at it. PROS: + VERY large ki blast + Neck break can get you out of tight situations + Almost no delay in his moves CONS: - Large ki blast, little damage - Not very powerful in general PLAYING AGAINST: This guy is going to try and play hit and run games with you. He likes throwing his large ki blast and following it up with a dash. If you block both attacks, then he'll either retreat and throw another ki blast, or just take advantage of your block animation and neck break you. His two strongest areas of attack are midscreen and right next to you. So its not a bad idea to stay on the far end of the screen if you want to play defensive, or about one character length away if you want to play offensive. This way, if you’re on the far screen, you can see all of his attacks coming, and prepare a counter. Alternatively, if your close to him, but outside of throw range, then his most damaging attacks won't be able to hit you. And he'll most likely resort to using his Jump kick or trying to alter the distance between you, in which case you can hit him while he trys to move. Also, don't forget, that he pretty much can't reach you if you’re above or below him. His only method of attack would be to dash, or to move up/down. WINNING POSE: unlike the other two members, he only has 1 winning pose. He Raises the leg near the downed opponent, pulls the arm on the same side to his chest, and raises the other arm Frieza "Oh, I'm sorry. I did too much" Oh Frieza. The first time you play as him you'll probably think "HOLY CRAP! I CAN'T MOVE!" shortly followed by "WHERE ARE MY ATTACKS!” Heh, don't ask me why, but in the first round of every fight, Frieze can only move by flying. He can't walk. He also can't do any of his special moves. He can only hit you with his tail, do a side kick with his short leg or kick upwards. Story wise, he limited himself by not using his hands when fighting Goku to prove he was that much stronger. Game wise, I think they did it to balance him a little. Now, let me anticipate your next question. "If they nerf him that much in the first round, in the following rounds he must be really great, right?" well yes and no. Yes because he's fast. His speed is only slightly less than Gohans. He's also powerful. His strength is that to Goku's, if not slightly better. And his Death Ball has NO delay after it. So you can fire them off like mad. Not to mention they're big, fast and pack a poweful punch too. However, his physical attacks have short range, and are easy to avoid. And also, if you lost that first round, then your already at a disadvantage, especially against harder difficulty or skilled players. REGULAR MOVES: DURING THE FIRST ROUND, FRIEZA CAN ONLY PERFORM THESE 3 MOVES. Punch = tail whip Kick = side kick Hard attack = kick upwards IN THE FOLLOWING ROUNDS, HE HAS ACCESS TO ALL OF HIS MOVES STANDING and FLYING ATTACKS Punch = a forward punch Kick - a side kick CROUCHING ATTACKS NONE CLOSE ATTACKS Punch - elbow attack Kick - same as standing OPPONENT BELOW Punch - a short ranged, downward punch Kick - a downward kick, followed by a tail whip OPPONENT ABOVE Punch - mini shoryuken (think Gohans opponent above punch) Kick - High Round house SPECIAL MOVES ========== DEATH BALL ========== D, DF, F + HA Frieza charges ki above his head, and then throws it forward. I do believe this is his signature attack that he used to destroy Planet Namek. It’s a powerful attack, and it’s the size of Ginyus large ki blast. Best of all, it has no after delay! So you can fire one of these, then follow it up with anything you want! Even another Death Ball! Or 3! When i'm in a cheap mood, I'll throw 2-3 of these out, followed by a finger blast. that way, a hit is all but guaranteed. Just remember, if performed on a human opponent, they'll usually hit you back... and I don't mean in game =b ============ FINGER BLAST ============ A, F + HA Frieza extends his arm and finger, and fires a quick ki blast. This move is also fast. however, it does have a normal delay, so you can't really follow it up with much. However, this is a nice chaser to his Death ball. Since this is aim able, if your opponent jumps the death ball, then this will be right behind him! ========= TAIL SPIN ========= D + P Frieza spins around, and attacks with his tail. Much like Gokus cartwheel kick. Like Gokus cartwheel kick, this move comes out fast, is a great anti air and attacks a good radius around Frieza. MOVES I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO YET: - I've had the computer pull off an extended reach tail attack during the first round. Then once again during a later round - I also had the computer hit me with a sort of double kick. Where Frieze did his normal side kick, then immediately followed with a higher side kick PROS: + Powerful + Quick + A fair amount of his moves are double hit + No delay after his death ball + Some of his physical attacks hit twice CONS: - Short physical reach - impaired first round PLAYING AGAINST: It is almost a MUST that you win that first round. In the higher difficulties, as well as against skilled Frieza players (like me! ^_^), your going to need any advantage you can get. Frieza can be tricky, he loves throwing 2 death balls in quick succession. So if you see one; be prepared for another right behind it. (Almost always, literally) Also, try to limit dashing in on him as he'll usually tail spin you out of it, or just death ball you. And always be prepared for his finger blast. He sometimes tries to bait you into flying over a death ball, only to nail you with a finger blast. Not to mention that they come out pretty quickly, so they can catch you off guard in general. WINNING POSE: With one hand behind his back, he covers his mouth with the other, trying to hide his laughter. _______________________________________________________________________________ 5. E N D I N G S _______________________________________________________________________________ Much like every other Dragon Ball game out there, this game has no endings per se. Instead, after you defeat Frieza and enter your initials (or any 3 letters), your treated to one final quote from your character as the credits are shown. I will list what each characters' quote is here. So if you want to find out what they say on your own, skip over this. Goku: "How boring.... I can't wait to fight again" Vegeta: "No matter how strong they are. I will be even stronger!" Gohan: "I forgot to do my home work. Mom must be mad" Piccolo: "Under my name, I can't lose" Recoom: "We are the chosen ones. The greatest in the universe" Burta: "We are the chosen ones. The greatest in the universe" Captain Ginyu: "We are the chosen ones. The greatest in the universe" Frieza: "Now you know my terrific power" _______________________________________________________________________________ 6. E X T R A S T U F F _______________________________________________________________________________ PLAY AS SUPER SAIYA-JIN GOKU! To play as Goku in his Super Saiya-Jin form, Goku must win 5 matches in a row. Then on the character select screen, Goku will be in his super saiya-jin form. He will stay selectable in this way, until the arcade machine is reset or until Frieza is beaten in story mode. As a Super Saiya-jin, Goku retains all of his old moves, but they all do extra damage. However, it’s not by much. NOTE: It appears that Goku can also be selectable in his SSJ form, just by having anyone win 5 matches in story mode. FINISHING MOVES! Well, okay. It’s not finishing moves in the sense of Mortal kombat. But at the end of a match certain characters will fly up into the air, and perform one final, explosive, super move against their downed opponent. Here is a list of characters, as well as what they perform: Goku: Genki Dama Gohan: Renzoku Energy Dan (repeated amount of small ki blasts are thrown) Vegeta: Final Flash Piccolo: Renzoku Energy Dan SSJ Goku: Chou Kame Hame Ha Through the use of the games service mode, I have also found that the characters can do some other final attacks as well. I have no idea how to make them do certain attacks, as they always do the ones mentioned above for me. Maybe it’s just random. But anyways, here is what else they can perform Goku: Kame Hame Ha. Kame Hame Ha at a different angle Gohan: Masenkou Vegeta: Double Final Flash Big Bang Attack Piccolo: Makankusappou A Big Ki blast SSJ Goku: Kame Hame Ha at a different angle _______________________________________________________________________________ 8.
