Closing ------------------------- 4 What is it? ------------------------- Derby Owners Club; World Edition is a Multiplayer Arcade Game developed in Japan by SEGA, but distributed to locations throughout North America, such as Dave&Busters arcades. In the game, you control a horse, throughout it's racing career, such as it's name, jockey's jersey colors, the colors of the horse's facemask, the relationship between horse and rider, what food to feed your horse, and even when to whip and when to pull back on the reins. ------------------------- 5 Determine Personality ------------------------- Each horse has its own personality based on the way it was bred - Imposing, Rough, Honest, Coward and Sloppy. Personality comes into play by increasing or decreasing your relationship skills with your horse, depending on your answers to the horse's reactions after each race. When you first start the game, your horse will be set out into a farm-like setting, where you can control your horse, steering him or her into new "blinkers" (different colored facemasks), or pink Relationship-changing spheres. This is where you may determine your horse's personality. To do so, simply press the "HOLD" button at this time. ------------------------- 6 Personality Types ------------------------- If your horse kicks back, it's personality is "Rough". If your horse rears up on it's hind legs, it's personality is "Imposing". If your horse shakes it's head, it's personality is "Honest". If your horse shakes and shimmies, it's personality is "Coward". If your horse lays down, it's personality is "Sloppy". This may change over time, depending on the version of the game you are playing, so make sure to check your horses personality every time you start playing... ------------------------- 7 Per Answer Guide ------------------------- The answers will always appear somewhat in the following order, with three to five answers appearing onscreen at once. NOTE: Your question may also be about which food your horse likes or dislikes. In that event, you had better remember, or you WILL lose hearts. BLANDISH/ENCOURAGE/PRAISE - All Praise should be reserved for when horses of Rough, Sloppy, or Imposing personalities win races. If you have a horse that is Cowardly or Honest, then Encourage your horse when they make mistakes, or lose by a narrow margin. You may also praise your Rough or Sloppy horse when they are satisfied with themselves, even though you may not be. Overall, Praise or Blandish your horse when it wins an important G1 race. Don't blandish when it's angry, however. FLATTER - All Flattery will get you everywhere with Happy horses, and it's rarely a drawback. There are different times to flatter your horse, however, depending on it's personality. When a Rough, Coward, or Imposing horse feels stronger, it deserves a little flattery. If a Coward or Honest horse wins, it should be flattered. Finally, if a Sloppy or Coward horse makes mistakes, becomes angry, or is otherwise doubtful, feel free to flatter it to raise it's morale. APOLOGIZE/COMFORT - Imposing, Honest, Sloppy Comfort your Imposing or Sloppy horse after narrow losses, or when depressed or sad. If your Imposing horse made a mistake somewhere, Comfort it as well. Apologize to your Honest horse when it is angry, or when you pushed it too hard or made it Fatigued. HUG - Honest/Coward Never never hug your horse. Well, unless you happen to have an Honest horse and that horse is happy with itself even though it may have lost a race. You can scare such a horse back into it's wits by hugging it. I hear it's also possible to hug a Cowardly Horse when it is "pleased" to win a race. If it is only "happy" to win, it's better to flatter it though. IGNORE/LEAVE - All but Honest If your Coward-like or Sloppy-type horse has a lot of confidence after winning, leave it to bask in it's glory. If your Rough or Imposing horse is fatigued or angry, or it was pushed too hard, it would rather you ignore it or leave it alone. Any attempt to apologize or comfort these types may meet in disaster, relationship-wise. SOOTHE - Honest If your Honest horse loses Confidence, it should be soothed. PSYCHE UP/ASTONISH - Imposing, Honest Psyche up your Honest horse when it wins a race, or is happy or confident. An Imposing horse however, should be Psyched up only when it is nervous or depressed. SCOLD - Imposing If your horse is Imposing or Honest, and they are still happy with themselves even though they lost the race, they may respect you more as a rider if you scold them. Though, for the Honest ones, Hugging is the more preferable option, as you rarely get to hug your horse in this game without spooking them. If you find any mistakes in this section, please email me!
