Let's go! =============================================================================== HISTORY: August 31, 2000 The author starts a FAQ for Chaos Heat. September 4, 2000 The FAQ is now released. September 7, 2000 The author is at it again, and adds a bit more detail about the characters' capabilities. More Legal Crap has been added as well, thanks to the infamous MegaGames fiasco. September 9, 2000 A bit more tinkering with the FAQ, and it's about good to go for another version. September 13, 2000 Added some info about Chain combos, end of round bonuses, and other good stuff. Now I'm thinking about releasing this version. September 14, 2000 Ready for another release? Here is version 1.40. September 18, 2000 Track listing for the soundtrack CD added. Personal brag about a 39-hit Chain is included. :) September 19, 2000 This version, 1.45, is released. =============================================================================== ABOUT CHAOS HEAT: The biomaterial plant has fallen under siege by a myriad of monsters. Parasite infestation has turned almost all the scientists into zombies. Three DEF agents- Rick, Mitsugi, and Vogt- are going in to clean up this mess. Chaos Heat was released in 1998 for the Taito G-Net system on the "G-Card" medium. This is a small card the size of a PC-Engine HuCard which is to be slid into the card port of a G-Net Mother Board. The G-Net Mother Board connects to a JAMMA Harness. This game has no home conversion at the moment. It was once planned for the Sony PlayStation, but the port was cancelled. However, Taito did do a survival horror type game "Chaos Break: Episode From Chaos Heat" that takes place 2 years after this title's story. Chaos Heat has an AMOA rating of "Animated Violence- Mild". This is quite appropriate, since the game does NOT have you killing any human enemies. There is only a trivial amount of gore as well. It is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Since there's no FAQ in existence for this game, I thought I'd go ahead and take a whack at it. =============================================================================== GAME START & CHARACTER INFO: You are offered three characters to choose from. At the character select screen, a graph will be shown that rates the characters in four categories: Power, Defense, Gun, and Speed. The graph ratings will be interpreted in this FAQ as follows: A- Outside the circle, B- Touching the circle, C- Inside the circle. Rick: Speed=C Power=A Defense=A Gun= C Uses the E-Launcher weapon. If charged, the gun fires a laser blast and Rick will be able to strafe with it. Favorite 2nd weapon- Launcher. Physical Attack: Gunstock smash with the E-Launcher. Mitsugi: Speed, Power, Defense, and Gun are all "B". "Time to clean up!" Uses a semiauto gun. By charging, the gun can briefly go into a spreadshot mode. Favorite 2nd weapon- Napalm. Physical Attacks- A series of three Roundhouse Kicks. - Mitsugi's strength is her spread shot. Vogt: Speed= A Power= C Defense= C Gun= A "Let's go." Uses a flame thrower. No charging ability. Tap the button to shoot single fireballs, or hold it down to spew forth a large stream of flame. As you hold down the button, you can spin in place. Favorite 2nd weapon- Search. Physical attacks: Knife, Knife (he carries 2 knives), Kick. - Pick Vogt if you want to do some serious scrappin'. He can easily chain physical attacks. - WARNING: He can not take as much damage as Mitsugi or Rick. NOTE: Sometimes at the title screen when "Chaos Heat" appears, you will get to hear Vogt say "Caos Hiitsu" (apparently the title of this game in Japanese). Other times, you will hear a spooky female voice intone "Chaos Heat" in English. At the start of a game or a continue, your character will be equipped with their Favorite 2nd weapon. High Scores: High scores in this game will be saved and do not disappear when the game is powered down. If the G-Net game is changed, the high scores will be erased. You don't lose your points when you continue- but doing so bars you from the high score list. That's great- because only a good player will ever get on there. High score entries not only show your score, but your character used, total game time, and game completion percentage. You can finish the game and not come up with a 100% percentage, by the way. =============================================================================== GAME PLAY: The controls consist of a joystick and 2 buttons- Attack and 2nd Weapon. Before each mission, you see a 3D map of the areas you are trying to retake. Here are the basic moves for each character: 8-Way Run: Move in the desired direction. Roll: Double-tap the joystick in the desired direction. Generally, you can not be hit while rolling. Close Quarters Combat: Hit the attack button when you're close to an enemy. It gets you more points than shooting enemies but it is risky. Shoot: Tap the attack button once for each shot. 2nd Weapon: Tap the 2nd Weapon button. Charge: Hold down the attack button until the Gun meter is filled in blue. Only Rick & Mitsugi can do this. Release the button and you use your character's special attack. Mitsugi has a spread shot and Rick has a laser blast. Flamethrower (Vogt ONLY): Hold the attack button down and Vogt's gun will act like a flame thrower. Vogt can rotate in place for sweeping attacks. You can't really turn a 180 too fast in this attack, however. Laser Blast (Rick): After a charge and release, Rick's gun will spew forth a continuous beam in the direction he was facing at that moment. Rick's aim will be locked so you can strafe. Laser Blast Cancel (Rick): If your E-Launcher's Laser Blast is aimed the wrong way, you can cancel this attack with a roll. Spread Shot (Mitsugi): After a charge and release, Mitsugi's gun will have a temporary spread shot ability. You tap the fire button as normal to shoot. The game perspective is like Metal Gear Solid (an overhead viewpoint). Various monsters will attack. You can either shoot them or run up and use hand-to-hand strikes on them. Scrapping earns more points than shooting the enemy, but it is more risk. If your life bar is low, you should shoot rather than duke it out. Zombies: Scientists who were infested by the parasite and have turned blue. They all carry guns and will either pistol-whip or shoot you. Zombies- Stage 2 Infestation: These look even less human. They do not carry guns. The grey ones use hand-to-hand attacks. The brown ones will spew flames if they get close enough. Arachnoids: There are several kinds of these. They crawl around and try to bite your head. Their legs are made out of bones, and their head can be either a skull or a brain. These usually contain no Cores. Giant Arachnoids: These take a lot of hits, and can run over you like a Mack truck. It is a good idea to start shooting so they don't bulldoze you. Be ready to get out of the way in any case. Mutant Roaches: Small- These are fairly quick, and will charge you in an attempt to bite. Two good hits will lay 'em out cold. Large- Not as fast as the small ones but they take more damage to kill. Robots: Small robots that will shoot either guns or missiles at you. If they use missiles, you can shoot these down. If you have the Spark, you can make these guys sorry they ever messed with you. Spitters: They appear on the ground, looking like a tentacle in a pool of mercury. They will spit green stuff at you which leaves a nasty puddle on the ground. Batwings: Flying creatures with large wings and a sharp tail. They will attempt to get close so that they can stab you with their tails. If you are going to fight rather than shoot them, try to get them from the side or the back. These monsters do not contain Parasite cores. Rats: These rats are fairly huge- one of these would've fed all the Survivor castaways for a whole week. They basically charge and bite. Queen Rats: REALLY huge rats that are about the size of a car! They will shoot. These are not that common. They can also bulldoze you like the Giant Arachnids. Core: Killing a monster will break the parasite core loose from it. You can get rid of this by shooting or trampling it. And many others... to be listed later. Some rooms will have obstacles that also can injure you. At the bottom of the screen are your LIFE & GUN meters. The Gun meter depletes as you fire your primary weapon. If it is fully depleted, an EMPTY sign will appear above your character briefly. For this short period, you cannot fire. You can refill the Gun meter by holding your fire for a bit. If the Life meter runs out, your character dies. From here you can either continue or end the game. You cannot switch characters from a Continue. Remember, you get ONLY ONE life per credit! So be careful. =============================================================================== JUNCTIONS: Sometimes, you will have to undertake a certain challenge that decides where you go next. If you succeed, you will continue along your route. If you fail it, you have to take the detour. Examples of Junctions include defending a D.E.F. Agent who is trying to get the door unsecured so that you can pass, wading up a junk-laden stream, etc. DEFEND THE D.E.F. AGENT: See "PARTIAL OVERVIEW" later in this FAQ. THE ROTATING PLATFORM: Shoot the control box to make it stop. Launchers are recommended here. If the time runs out, it will go out of control and plummet to a lower area while still spinning. JUNK-LADEN STREAM: Wade upstream and dodge all the junk that's coming to get to the exit. =============================================================================== CHAIN COMBOS: Keep pounding the enemies without pause, and you're going to rack up a Chain count. One way to rack up some good Chain combos is to get a bunch of Zombies after you, then scrap with the whole bunch of them! Of course, you will have to alternate your hits on individual ones to keep them from getting a piece of you. In the first area of Round 3-1, I have gotten a 39 hit Chain. =============================================================================== ITEMS: Many breakable objects such as small boxes, potted plants, etc. contain items as follows: LIFE RECOVERY "You get the life up!" Soda Pop: Comes in a yellow can with red marking. Gives some life back. If your life meter is maxed, quaffing it gives you 5,000 points. Medkit: A white box with a blue "+" on it. Gives a lot of life back. If your life meter is maxed, it will give you 10,000 points. BONUS POINTS "You get the points!" Bunch of gold bars: Gives you 1,000 points. CD-ROM: Gives you 3,000 points. SECONDARY WEAPONS: "You get the (name of weapon)." Search: A homing missile. Napalm: A firebomb. Launcher: Your typical Rocket-Propelled Grenade. Spark: An electrocution bomb. It is especially good against robots, as they get fried by just one. Pod: When dropped on the floor, it fires shots in a pattern. Gas: When it hits something, it releases a cloud of gas. You can ignite the gas by shooting into it. OTHERS: Vest: Raises defensive power for a limited time. "You get the vest!" AP: For a brief time, your Gun meter will be infinite. "You get the AP!" Card: One of the enemies in a room will have this. You need it to go to the next room. Once the card-carrier is killed, a "GET THE CARD!" message appears. Pick that up, and the floor will be lit near the room exit. "You get the AC!" NOTE: Some rooms will not have a card in them. In that case, there will be one or more targets marked "SHOOT!". Destroy these and you will be able to leave the area. Some 2nd weapons will behave differently when used by certain characters. For example, Vogt fires THREE missiles at once with each shot of the Search. =============================================================================== ROUND CLEAR BONUS: When the end of round boss is defeated, you are given Life and Core bonuses as follows: LIFE: Up to 20,000 points based on whatever portion of your Life bar remains. CORE: Has something to do with the number of Parasite Cores you've destroyed. Additionally, you can get a Time bonus if you finished a round rather fast. This is hard to get though. I've managed a 10,000 point time bonus on Round 2 occasionally. =============================================================================== PARTIAL OVERVIEW: ROUND 1 ------- (Cut Scene: As the camera follows behind, your character is running toward the doors of the biomaterial industry plant. Your commander radios "Operation code JPG-0523. Send progress reports as you go. Good luck.". You meet a DEF agent and watch him blow away an Arachnoid that drops from the ceiling.) AREA 1: In the lobby, you encounter a zombie and a couple arachnoids. Beat the crap out of them. For a few extra points, you may torch the booth in the upper right corner and the potted plant by the exit. The Zombie will give up the card once you smoke him. (Cut Scene: Your character and the DEF agent will speak for a moment. Suddenly a bunch of parasite cores drop from the ceiling and attack him. He falls to the floor with a scream, and then dies. Your character flinches momentarily as this happens.) AREA 2: You're now in a hallway which branches out into several small rooms. At the end of it, you'll see two small Roaches and a large one. They are about ready to come after you. A bit further down the hall, there's another large Roach. The small rooms will have some boxes- you can find some gold bars, a Launcher, a Napalm, a Pod, and a Search. A handful of Zombies lurk in some of the small rooms and will get up to fight you when you come close or shoot them. Two more small roaches are in one of the rooms.) AREA 3: You're in what appears to be a storeroom. To the right you see a lavatory- destroy the wall-mounted toilets and there's a Soda Pop. Destroy the restroom stalls in the upper right corner to find a vest. Zombies and small Roaches are patrolling this area. A case on the back wall can be blasted to obtain a launcher.) AREA 4: (Cut Scene: A D.E.F. Agent flies by in a helicopter and momentarily converses with your character. A bit later, the helicopter flies off pursued by small batlike creatures.) Now you're outside, and three robots are waiting for you. They can fire five shots before they have to recharge their guns. When a robot has just used up his 5 shots, it's a good time to beat the sucker up until there's nothing but scrap metal. A few boxes offer you some gold bars when you trash them. Also, a Search weapon can be found. (Cut Scene: Just as you reach the door, you see the helicopter again still being pursued by those nasty things. It crashes into a grove of trees. Your character is upset.) AREA 5: BOSS! The boss is some giant snake-type creature. It will wriggle around for awhile before launching an attack every now & then. It can spew flames, or it can shoot out its tongue at you. Get too close and it can bite- following that up by slamming you into the ground. Three boxes against the left corner of the back wall contain 2 bunches of gold bars and a launcher. Don't even think of trying to beat this boss up. Just use your gun. Sometimes it will summon 3 Arachnoids. When these come out, you can just run up and kick them down. ROUND 2 ------- AREA 1: (Cut Scene: Your character comes in through a door. Soon after, you see a wrecked helicopter. A gravely injured DEF agent stumbles out and dies, falling down facefirst.) Here you find some boxes strewn about in front of you. Some Zombies and Arachnoids will come out of the copter. You can toast the copter and no more enemies will come out, if you want it that way. By the pilot's cabin of the copter, there will be a box with some gold bars, and another with a Search weapon. You can also get a Medkit in this area. Watch out now because the Zombies are getting a little trigger happy. AREA 2: You're in a 1-screen sized room. A few Zombies will come after you. A couple boxes contain some gold bars. There will be a small booth in the front left corner of the room. Wreck it and you'll find a 3,000 point CD-ROM. AREA 3: Once you reach the center of the room, a security device kicks in to trap you. The force field generators are now active and you must shoot them away to escape. Some Spitters will come up on the ground and attempt to hit you with green toxic spit. You can kill them fast. Once all 4 generators are down, the exit is opened for you. AREA 4: Here, you are fighting off some Batwing creatures. One will be dormant behind a stack of boxes. The exit is being guarded by a missile firing Robot. When you get a chance, smack it silly. Don't waste a second or it will start to launch missiles. AREA 5: DEFEND THE D.E.F. AGENT This is the first "Junction" you come across in the game. (Cut Scene: You meet a DEF agent. He tells you that he can get the door opened but it will take 30 seconds). A 30-second timer appears on the screen and all kinds of Arachnoids will storm the room. Some will go after the DEF agent while some will try to interfere directly with you. If you keep this guy alive for 30 seconds, he will get that door opened and give you a Medkit (unless you're full of life already- in which case he gives you something else). Needless to say, there's nothing that you shouldn't do to make sure he survives. If you keep his lifebar high enough, he will give you an extra item as well (like an AP or extra 2nd Weapon ammo). If his life bar at the top center of the screen is depleted by enemy attacks, HE WILL DIE and you have to take a detour. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN. AREA 6A: BOSS! (success) You walk in on a red monster. It sprouts tentacles, then jumps toward you and roars. In its first form, it will try to jab you with the tentacles or shoot lightning bolts along the ground. In its 2nd form, it will stalk you around the room, trying to spit that green junk on you. AREA 6B: BOSS! (failure) A huge monster pops up from the center of the room and roars loudly. It has 2 arms and will sometimes try to knock you down with them. It can spit the green loogies and has a psychic blast that it uses like a laser. Where you go next depends on which of these two bosses you faced. If it was boss 6A, you go to round 3-1. If it was boss 6B then you're going to round 3-2. =============================================================================== SOUNDTRACK INFO: The Chaos Heat BGM is composed by Joutouhei Nakayama (中山上等兵) of Taito Sound Team Zuntata.
