As you probably know, this game had been ported a million ways since original arcade release. I'm writing specifically for this version to help out with the SMS Completion Project at GameFAQs. You can find out more about this and the great work being done by following these links: http://glacoras.net16.net/SMS_CP/ http://www.selmiak.bplaced.net/sms/ To view any more of my work, go here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/76852.html So yeah, enough plugs let's hit the road! _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| ( / | 4) G a m e B a s i c s | \ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|_____________________________________________________|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ C o n t r o l s ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 1..............Brake 2.........Accelerate D-Pad..........Steer Up.........Gear Down Down.........Gear Up M o d e s ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Though the name of this game has 3-D in it, you can also play it in 2-D. This is basically the exact same game as the original OutRun apart from the optional 3-D mode. Obviously if you have some 3-D glasses, you should take advantage and use them. There are three difficulty levels for you to choose from. If you start at the beginner level, you can get used to the game. There are only a few vehicles on the road to slow you up. Also, long tight corners and chicanes are rare. As you move onto average, more vehicles appear. The difficult corners appear more often and there are more elevated areas of road. On expert mode, there are a lot of vehicles, a lot of difficult corners and the track moves up and down hills frequently. S c r e e n ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ,-------------------------------. SCORE: Well this is your score. Probably |SCORE TIME L SPEED 000k/h| you don't care about this because |0000000 80 H REVCOUNTER | this isn't what modern gaming is | | about. | | | | TIME : How much time you have remaining. | | You need to reach the next | | checkpoint before time runs out. '-------------------------------' GEARS : As you acclerate, the rev-counter will increase. As it reaches the redline, you should change up to the High gear. Similarly, if you slow down too much, you should gear down to the low gear. SPEED: This is how fast you are going. It's a pretty irrelevent feature REVS : Read the GEARS bit. Keep an eye on the rev-counter so you know when to change gear. B a s i c G a m e p l a y ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ • At the very beginning of your run, you should hold the B button down before you set off. This will rev the engine and make your getaway faster. • As you accelerate, your rev-counter will increase. As the counter moves into the redline, you should move to the higher gear (press up). • You will begin with 80 seconds on the timer. You must reach the the end of the route and the next checkpoint before time runs out. If you reach the checkpoint you will be given an extra 60 seconds of time. As a general rule you should be able to make it through a stage a few seconds under the 60. • As you make your way along the routes, you will have to avoid other vehicles that are using the road. If you crash into another car, one of two things will happen. If you are travelling fast, you will spin out and lose speed and control. If you are going a bit slower, you may just bounce off of the back of the vehicle, losing a bit of time. • There are a few different vehicles that you will come across. The car that you drive is a Ferrari Testarossa (unofficially). The other cars are a VW Beetle, a Chevrolet Corvette, a Porsche 911 and a BMW 3-Series. • If you leave the track you will lose speed. This usually happens whilst you are going around a corner. To avoid this release the accelerator, thus slowing down and gaining turning power. In extreme circumstances you could even change down to the low gear. • Should you collide with anything on the side of the road, you will total your Ferrari. If this happens, you will be replaced on the track but you will have to restart from a stand-still. Should this happen, you will automatically gear down to the lowest gear. • As you come to the end of a stage, the track will fork. The two forks will only be partially visible, but you can safely drive on them. You will head along a different route depending on which fork you take. You can plan your route by following the flow-chart in the section below. • Don't feel like you ever have to brake. Releasing the accelerator wil usually slow you down enough. • You will gain 20,000 points every time you pass a car. • As you reach one of the goals, any time that you have remaining will time multiplied by 1,000,000 and added to your final score. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| ( / | 5) S t a g e s a n d R o u t e s | \ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|_____________________________________________________|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAGE 5 GOAL Here is a table, flow-charty type thing ,-------------.---. that depicts the route maps in OutRun.
