                   “Clocks can evolve, thank you very much.”
                                        
While it's a bit long, the video Evolution is a Blind Watchmaker [1] (link
via Jason Kottke [2]) is a facinating look at evolution and a rather neat
argument against Intelligent Design, showing how clocks could evolve,
assuming the parts that make up a clock were all swimming around and actually
had an affinity to combine. 

And if simulated universes with evolving clocks isn't your thing, how about a
few physics lectures [3] by the late and great Richard Feynman [4].
