* * * * * The TV Detective/Police Show Theory Spring [1] and I are eating dinner at the Starlite Diner [2] and the motif is a 50s/early 60s. On the wall next to us is a framed article about James Garner [3] and the TV (Television) show Maverick. [4] Seeing that reminded me of a theory I have. “Did I ever tell you about my TV Detective/Police Show Theory?” I asked Spring. “Umm … ” said Spring, face scrunching up. “I don't think so.” “It goes like this: Any television detective or police show will always look like it was filmed in the 70s.” “Really?” “Yes. Of course you have your actual 70s detective/police shows like The Rockford Files [5] or Baretta [6] but even such shows as Magnum P.I. (Private Investigator) [7] or Simon & Simon [8] look like they were made in the 70s.” “Those were the 80s, right?” “Yes,” I said. “But to look at them now, it still screams 70s. Much like Hill Street Blues. [9]” Spring thought for a second. “What about Dragnet? [10]” she asked. “Um … ” She had me. I had to think fast on my feet. “Okay, make that the Color TV Detective/Police Show Theory.” “Okay … ” [1] http://www.springdew.com/ [2] http://www.starlitediner.com/ [3] http://us.imdb.com/Name?Garner,+James [4] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0050037 [5] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0072093 [6] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0072683 [7] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0081103 [8] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0081930 [9] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0081873 [10] http://us.imdb.com/Title?0064257 Email Sean Conner at sean@conman.org .
