               Gotta clean before the cleaning lady gets here … 
                                        
My mom would rush around the house cleaning. “Mom, isn't that what the
cleaning lady is for?” I would ask her.

“I can't let her see the house like this!” she sould say.

I could never quite understand why she felt compelled to clean the house
before the cleaning lady would come.

Now I do.

And I can't explain it either, other than to say “I can't let her see the
house like this!”
