atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD > Ponies > Field Full of Ponies --- Field Full of Ponies ------------------------------------------ Summer 2010 ----------- I'm pretty sure the leasing agents said something along the lines of this being an old farmhouse, with the farm itself no longer being used, although some of the buildings and surrounding fields were rented out to some kind of pony sanctuary run by two batty old women. So we had visions of our eldest befriending these mad old ladies and being to help out looking after the ponies. Idyllic countryside bliss, etc. However, that wasn't really true. The farm and surrounding fields were being rented out, and were full of ponies, but rather than being a pony sanctuary it was more like pony hell (although we didn't know that at the time). There were no nice batty old ladies. Just an odd couple who were living in the farm in caravans when they weren't meant to be doing so and the landlord had been trying to get them evicted for ages. He succeeded (they did a midnight runner - with a load of ponies! Impressive) after a couple of months of us living there. And it was odd to suddenly have empty fields, no ponies neighing, etc - it kind of felt like we'd moved out to this dream countryside location for no reason now. It was then when we found out about mis-treatment to the ponies, poor conditions, etc. I don't understand what or why they were doing exactly, but suffice to say that they were large unpaid vet bills left behind and RSPCA inspectors around, etc. Anyway, all this "setting the scene" is necessary, because with the land around the house freed up, my wife saw her chance to live her dream. ------------------------------------------------------------------- atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD gopher://gopher.atomicules.co.uk/ atomicules Overground http://atomicules.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------- Powered by Floodgap's Bucktooth .
